Io sono un uomo antico, che ha letto i classici, che ha raccolto l’uva nella vigna, che ha contemplato il sorgere o il calare del sole sui campi. Non so quindi cosa farmene di un mondo creato, con la violenza, dalla necessità della produzione e del consumo. Detesto tutto di esso: la fretta, il frastuono, la volgarità, l’arrivismo. Io sono un uomo che preferisce perdere piuttosto che vincere con modi sleali e spietati. E il bello è che ho la sfacciataggine di difendere tale colpa, di considerarla quasi una virtù.

Everybody asks me what’s my ideal wedding and well it’s actually just the disturbing marriage scene from Salo the 120 Days of Sodom.
Not the whole “sadistic aristocrats kidnapping and torturing youth” part but just the getting married in a silver silk dress with a matching floral headdress and bouquet in front of a bored nude audience in an Italian mansion/villa/castle while appearing grim and depressed. I feel like Pasolini was channeling Botticelli X Van Eyck for this film’s aesthetics.
