Happy (belated) Ostara or Happy Easter everyone!
I wanted to do a lemon lavender cake, but the store didn’t sell any lavender atm, so just lemon and vanilla cake it is 😅
The lemon strengthens friendships and the vanilla brings in love ❤️
Here’s the link to the recipe I used:

Happy ostara!
To celebrate, I’ve made some lavender lemonade. This past winter has been rough on me, so I’m hoping that the season will give me better experiences.
Lavender syrup:
(You can adjust the ratio for sweeter/less sweet syrup)
- 2 cups water
- 2—4 tbs culinary lavender
- 1 cup sugar
Add all ingredients to a pot & once it reaches boiling, turn off the heat and let it steep for about 30 minutes. I added purple food coloring for fun. It makes about 1 + 1/2 cups of syrup.

Ostara Egg Salad
Ostara isn't for awhile, but I thought it would be a good idea to post some things. That way people could get a head start on preparation.
6 eggs
1 cup mayo
1 Tablespoon Dijon
2 tsp lemon juice
2 tsp white wine or rice vinegar
1/4 tsp fresh ground black pepper
1/8 tsp salt
Hard boil the eggs. Peel and cut them lengthwise. Add other ingredients to a bowl, mix until smooth. Arrange 12 egg halves on a plate, yolk side down. Place them in a way that the big ends meet in the middle to make a petal design. Spoon the sauce over the eggs. Serve with crusty bread. To really make festive, top with chives, microgreens, or edible flowers.

As a kid, Easter meant two things: getting kicked out of Sunday school for asking what Jesus had to do with eggs, chocolate, and bunnies and wandering what the hell we were going to do with all the eggs. Just like most kids my neighborhood, my brother and I made a morning of dying eggs all sorts of mix-matched colors and experimenting with making the coolest looking egg. We’d have fun going about the yard and counting them up afterwards (as we’d occasionally forgotten one until it made itself known in summer). However, from there, we wanted nothing to do with the little things. They didn’t taste good, they smelled funny, and, worst yet for myself, they were eggs.
However, wasted food is a crime in my house, even now. So I had to get creative. While some like Easter eggs with a little bit of salt and nothing else, I don’t. Eggs are my least favorite food item on it’s own. Always has been. But that doesn’t mean they can’t be turned into something tasty with a little bit of innovation. So, here’s some ways to use those hard boiled fertility bombs this plagiarized holiday.
-Egg Salad
Typically made with just some eggs, mayo, and seasonings, it’s a versatile, creamy spread that’s great for sandwiches, on it’s own for some, and even on toast with a bit of avocado!
-Devilled Eggs
The go-to for many of us, devilled eggs also utilize mayo and various seasonings – maybe some pickle – to make the yolks and their soft outer vessels more palatable. They are highly versatile, allowing for all sorts of experimentation and flavor profiles to be achieved with little effort and expense. In fact, in one of the links below, there’s a recipe for someone who tried something straight out of a county fair: fried devilled eggs.
-Breakfast Hobo Packet
Hey, I’m not above some hobo packets. Something straight out of my childhood, it’s a struggle meal with a history for a lot of people. Aluminum foil, source of heat, and some ingredients make some tasty little self-contained meals. Typically, one could use raw eggs, but using the hard boiled variety takes the guess-work out of wondering if everything’s cooked all the way for nervous first-time cooks or those on the go.
-Cobb Salad
Let’s be honest: people will make a salad out of anything. And the most popular use of hard boiled eggs for the health conscious is the well-known cobb salad, typically garnished with eggs, ham, and a smattering of shredded cheese alongside whatever dressing they deem necessary to make the greens edible.
-Potato Salad
Some people forget the creamy texture hard-boiled eggs can bring to things. While one could go low-tech and make some egg salad, one extra ingredient can make it more filling and last longer: potatoes. Being the most versatile vegetable of all time, potatoes can make anything stretch in your fridge and go with just about anything, including Easter eggs.
That’s it for now! Check the links below for more ideas and recipes. Come back for another helping of Crackajack+Mac whenever your feeling hungry. Eat well and see you next time.

Ostara
Tumblr media
Ostara, or the spring equinox, happens between the 20th and the 24th of March every year. It officially marks the beginning of spring, and so the warm weather coming! It represents rebirth and growth, but also balance.
Ostara is a good time to plan things for spring (like things you want to do this summer, or your garden. Some of us might even be able to start their garden at this time! It's still too cold here for me to do it), spring cleaning and, if possible, open windows for (probably) the first time this year! Also think of repotting your indoor plants so they can also start anew for this year!
Without really planning, you can also just write down your goals for this spring
Colors to wear, be it with makeup, clothes, or other accessories are pink, green, purple, yellow, white… mostly pastel colors!
Crystals to wear or to make spells with for Ostara are rose quartz, clear quartz, amethyst, bloodstone, carnelian, sunstone, agate and lapis lazuli Now for foods! Eat things with cheese, eggs, seeds, nuts, in-season vegetables and fruits, but most importantly: honey! I already shared it last year on my blog, but you definitely should try this easy honey cake recipe for Ostara!
And since I like Ostara a lot, I found this recipe for hot cross buns: turns out they taste amazing for breakfast or just a lil snack!
Tumblr media
For activities, you can also light black and white candles for balance
You can dye or paint eggs in pastel colors!
You can eat chocolate rabbits and go take walks outside to see the change of seasons and how nature is coming back to life! You could also take a bath or keep yourself grounded by meditating outside (if it's not too cold!)
Of course, there's the usual divination you can do!
Blessed Ostara!

Ostara Dreaming
"Use this blend before bed to dream of love - especially the night before the spring equinox.
3 drops Roman chamomile essential oil (Chamaemelum nobile) (preferred) or Cape chamomile essential oil (Eriocephalus punctulatus) for luck, sleep, love
1 drop jasmine absolute (Jasminum officinale) for love, prophetic dreams
5 drops lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia) for love, peace, protection
1 drop Turkish rose absolute (Rose damascena) or rose geranium essential oil (Pelargonium graveolens) for love, dreams
Springtime is when minds drift toward love. Spring flings, first romances, and vow renewals all have their place in the spring dreaming. Mix all oils, and diffuse 1 drop synergy per 100 ml water.
For massage, mix 15 drops synergy per ounce of carrier oil (a good all-purpose oil is sweet almond) plus a drop or two of vitamin E to preserve the mix."
-Blackthorn's Botanical Magic by Amy Blackthorn
Edit: NOTE: Essential oils and absolutes can be expensive, and this book has shown to present a few costly recipes, so take them with a grain of salt. I personally use oil infusions rather than essential oils because of chemical sensitivity, and it tends not to be of high cost comparatively. I take all of these recipes as a suggestion of correspondence rather than something I absolutely must follow. It's better to get creative and use what you have on hand rather than spend a ton of money on some oils you'll only use once or twice.

grimoire organization 2022
Greetings, everyone! This is how I've organized my grimoire for 2022. I use Obsidian to write it digitally.
This is just my personal preference for organization, so no worries if yours looks different! There are as many ways to organize a grimoire as there are witches and wizards in the world.
Tell me what you think! What parts do you like? What do you think I should add? Anything I'm missing or suggestions to make it better? Feel free to comment how you organize your grimoire below!
Farewell, and good tidings!

Porters Posse: Ostara/Spring Equinox/Passover/Easter Seasonal/ Cooking Challenge
Thinking about taking part? Reply to this entry - or send me a DM - and I’ll add you to the Ostara/Spring Equinox/Easter Posse list.
WHO: Anyone of any practice, or no practice at all, who enjoys seasonal celebrations, cooking, and feasting!  No restrictions, if you can pick up a spoon and stir you are invited!
WHAT: Your challenge is simple: choose at least one recipe from the Porters Seasonal Celebration Cookbook’s chapter on Easter to incorporate into your seasonal celebration and share with us photos and a write up.  I hope you will use as many seasonal and local ingredients as possible and look forward to hearing about your experience with those ingredients and locales.
Southern Hemisphere friends!  Please participate.  If the chapters on Easter don’t suit your seasonal celebration needs, please participate by choosing a recipe(s) from the harvest or Michaelmas sections.
While the recipe(s) from Porters Seasonal Celebration Cookbook should be the star of your entry Id also love to hear about other traditional favorites that you used in your celebration and any special non-cookery traditions!
Dietary restrictions?  You are welcome to adapt the recipes to meet your needs! This is ultimately about you and your celebration!
(Haven’t been able to snag your copy yet?  Click on this link to borrow it from archive.org   Porters Seasonal Celebration Cookbook)
WHERE: In the convenience of your kitchen! Though I’d also love to hear about those farmer’s markets, ditches and orchards!  Be sure to tag your post @portersposse!
WHEN: I’m opening up a broad window for Ostara/Spring Equinox/Easter. This challenge will take place between March 19th and April 13th.  Send me your entries between April 14th and 15th.  Remember to tag them @portersposse so Ican share them with the whole posse!
WHY: To celebrate the season in a way that includes everyone, and to quote @graveyarddirt ‘s Hagging Out “because it’s occasionally nice to be social in the comfort of your own home without actually having people over.”
HOW: By yourself or with family and friends! Just be sure to include at least one recipe from Porters Seasonal Celebrations Cookbook by Richard, Earl of Bradford and Carol Wilson.
Don’t get hung up on Easter being a religious holiday—I’m looking at it as a cultural date that has its roots in the past.  This is a HUGE seasonal cusp!

Don’t forget to leave me a message here or DM me @portersposse so we can add you to the Posse!
