I have a brainrot for Xiao. Consider this xiao having more of a avian instinct. Because his a bird, he manage to live through ignore his instincts thinking it’s impractical to his contract. Then came in Reader and suddenly his instincts are all over the place.
Whenever he see Reader he has this urge to dance or sing in front of them, he always leave when he feel this out of embarrassment. Or that he wants to be the one combing their hair and styling as a form of preening. Don’t even get me started at the shiny stuff he impulsively takes during his patrols. Ohhh and the fact that xiao suddenly feel like building a nest of blankets and pillows in reader’s home or the inn. This behavior is strikingly similar to birds during courting/mating season, this fact fluster Xiao so much meanwhile Reader just thought that the Adeptus was finally warming up to them.
Then there’s Zhongli who knows what’s up because xiao came to him for advice on how to deal with this embarrassing ordeal. His just sitting there and sipping tea and chuckling at the twos situation.
nO WHY IS THIS THE BEST IDEA EVER
for example, whenever you’re sitting near him, he finds his hand subconsciously reaching out to brush your hair. he can see a few knots, and he wants nothing more than to untangle them and comb them out and—
—and then he pulls his hand away, because doing that would be stupid.
he also practices songs/ dances for you when he’s alone, devising steps and movements that he thinks you would like. he always tells himself, this is the day when he’ll finally perform for you.
…then you show up, and he forgets everything he practiced, stands there stiffly, and teleports away before you can question his behaviour.
although, there is the tiniest, most minuscule fraction of a chance that you can sneak up on him practicing when he’s really concentrating. he usually practices in some forest clearing or on a mountain peak at night, and the moonlight glints off the blade of his polearm as he spins it around and catches it like flashes of starlight itself. the way he dances is mesmerising; his weapon becomes an extension of his arms, cutting through the air both in slow, smooth arcs and quick flashes, his steps are graceful and weightless, and every movement is carefully measured out but completely effortless all the same.
if he catches you watching him, he freezes, staring back at you for a good long second. then he vanishes, face burning, and doesn’t respond to the calls of his name until he’s recovered from his embarrassment enough (which can take a while). however, this is one decent way of getting him to actually show you the whole performance; now that you’ve seen him practicing, what’s there to hide?
(he also loves burrowing himself in pillows when he’s tired. if you’re there with him, even better.)
