New Taste Test - Graze versus LIDL
I do love me a decent copycat and this is an interesting one where I cannot decide.
They both weigh the same (30g) so LIDL comes out on top here. Both are vegan. Neither are GF. Both contain soy.
Recipes are very similar: oats, margarine, golden syrup, chicory, cocoa, brown sugar, sunflower and linseed.
The Graze version is darker, thicker and a little softer. It is glossier and has much more of a chocolate hit, as contains actual chocolate and molasses as well as cocoa. It has a couple grams extra fibre (suspect additive from "citrus fibres" in the ingredients list).
The LIDL one is paler, oatier, a bit less chocolatey, still moist but with tasty crunchy bits. It has more protein (5g compared to the Graze 2g) and a couple grams more sugar.
So, if you are a protein snack person and/or on a budget grab the LIDL ones, if you have big chocolate cravings take Graze.
Yes I will be attempting to make a version that is GF, soy free and combines the best of both, watch this space.

My neighbor had me over for dinner and there were PURPLE CARROTS! I asked nicely and got some to bring home to the snails. So naturally...
IT'S TIME FOR A TASTE TEST!
Everybody gather 'round!
Try the orange, try the purple..
Really get in there!
Enjoy the night!
I'll check again in the morning to see which is more popular.

Ceyx Romance Snippet
His forehead is pressed firm against mine as my grip tightens on his black tunic, our sweat intermingling in the warmth of the fire surrounding us. I feel the heat of the room intensify as our eyes meet in a way that's almost far too intimate for the situation, and the gaze of the man I've told myself countless times to stay away from makes my breath catch. I swear I can feel my heart crack in two.
"I love you." I whisper it without thinking. There's no way I can stop myself. Not now. Not when this could be the last moment we have together.
His eyes close and he grimaces. A sharp inhale, then he says through clench teeth, "Then let me do what I have to do."
"I can't." I tell him. How could I? How could I let him make such a sacrifice?
The eyes that have haunted my dreams and nightmares snap open before he wrenches his arm from my grasps, stepping back in what at first looks like shock. Then it turns to anger and bubbles up into a determined rage. "Then you couldn't possibly love me," he replies, words sharper than any blade, "Not the way I love you."
He turns on his toes with a long stride in his step. My vision blurs as I watch him walk away and it isn't until the heavy wooden door slams with the force of a battering ram against the castle stones that I realize why I can't see or breathe. I drop to my knees and a sob wrenches from my throat.
My heart calls to him in desperation.
Don't do this.
Don't do this for me.
But he's already gone and left me with nothing but my own tears to keep me company.
