And a rope of jasmine blossoms around your neck.

Shyam has stalked off to punish me
And is frolicking about with other women
He will not even speak to me
He will not even come into my lane,
But steps into courtyards of others
He will not even touch my finger,
But twists the arms of others
He will not touch my shawl,
But He lifts the veil of others
Shyam is Mira's Lord,
But he wanders about like a rake.

Love has stained my body
To the colour of the one who holds up mountains.
When I dressed in the worlds five fabrics, I only played hide and seek—
For disguised though I was, the lifting one caught me.
And seeing his beauty, I offered him all that I am.
Friends, let those whose beloved is absent write letters—
Mine dwells in the heart, and neither enters nor leaves.
Mira has given herself to her Lord Giridhara.
Day or night she waits only for him.

He will not give you money or success, but he will give himself to you. He will not say "Let me solve your problems", but he will surely bear with you. When he arrived, he didn't just snap his fingers to beat the evil but showed us how not to succumb to it. He is Krishna!

Hark! The Dark One speaks of his most beloved:
O Meera! The bounty of love, the chalice of desire,
Why, pray, do you beg for the nectar from my lips?
Your words, through the centuries, have carried more nectar
Than could ever suffice inside this humble cowherd
Why then, must you await my footsteps
When your strains have brought milllions of them to my threshold?
O Devotee! Some may call you deranged, mistake your courtship for madness
But who else would give up the body adorned with jewels
Sitting on a throne, but the wisest of all?
Know this, Dear One,
that love that you wait on
the one needed to unfurl yourself,
is ever-present
sometimes beside you, sometimes inside you.

mine is giridhar gopal, no other is mine,
the one who bears the peacock feather on his head is my husband)

normally I would save Hannibal analysis for my tiktok girlies, and I’ll probably wind up deleting this and posting it there but i’m having thoughts about rumi’s ideas of the consumption of the human soul by g-d and post-death existence and hannigram’s relationship.
the idea that humans are put on earth only to be inevitably subsumed by a being infinitely more knowing than ourselves, who allows us free will only for the thrill of pulling us back into them. The idea that we cease to exist when traces of our personhood are inseparable from that of another being, and that this is an ecstasy. that we as humans are defying g-d when we do not seek to tangle ourselves with each other and with him to the point of self-destruction. Mirabai’s Dark One. Nammalvar’s Takeover. To love a g-d is to become a vessel of their desires and Will Graham is the erotic mystic at the alter, ready to become one with his divine lover

I took a crack at writing Mirabai during her Sad Girl Era and while it’ll be good (bad) times when I get to it I like her and Luka being besties too much to start there. So here’s some practice exploring their dynamic. They’re just funny little (and big) guys together

365 Days of Poetry - Day 41:
*
Mira danced with ankle-bells on her feet.
People said Mira was mad;
my mother-in-law said
I ruined the family reputation.
Rana sent me a cup of poison
and Mira drank it laughing.
I dedicated my body and soul
at the feet of Hari.
I am thirsty for the nectar
of the sight of him.
Mira's lord is Giridhar Nagar;
I will come for refuge to him.

"Meera Got Refuge From Satguru"
गरीब, मीरां बाई पद मिली, सतगुरु पीर कबीर। देह छतां ल्यौ लीन है, पाया नहीं शरीर।।
Meaning: Meera Bai earlier used to worship Shri Krishna ji. One day when I heard the satsang of Saint Ravidas ji and God Kabir ji, I came to know that Shri Krishna ji is mortal. The powerful indestructible God is someone else. Made Saint Ravidas ji his Guru. Then finally he made Kabir ji his guru. Then the seed of…
