Photoshoot: Spring Style
Tumblr media
Spring is in and those of us who hate the cold are celebrating! I'm also celebrating because Harvey recently posted this gorgeous photoshoot he did with Toronto-based photographer Kye Mack (Instagram, website), where he's sporting a very springy outfit, and the vibes are immaculate.
Warm Pallet, Cool Vibes
I'll be honest, spring is also not my favorite season. I'm not a spring hater, but I much prefer the in-your-face heat and brightness of summer or the cool, golden crispness of fall to anything spring has to offer. Also, I have allergies, so the months of March to May must be enjoyed through a haze of heavy-duty antihistamines. But I digress!
One other thing I'm not usually crazy about in spring is the fashion. Spring tends to be when the pastels and cool tones dominate, and I'm simply not a fan. Lilac, coral, mint...I like my colors saturated and on the neutral to warm side, what can I say?
All that being said, I love this outfit! The crocheted top seems so breezy and comfortable, and those warm colors look amazing on Harvey. The stripes add definition and structure, with their placement almost evoking the "cartoon in real life" trend which has been all over artistic spaces from makeup to clothing to cake decoration.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Against the warm, almost autumnal colors of the shirt, the bright pop of teal from the slacks really stands out. The choice of a bright, jewel-toned shade is so perfect to match with the warmth of the shirt's pallet while still pulling those warm tones more toward the beach than toward falling leaves and pumpkin spice.
Hair & Makeup
For the grooming in this shoot, Harvey credits Toronto-based makeup artist Holly Jones (Instagram, website), who describes herself as "a firm believer that makeup has no boundaries" and only uses "cruelty free brands and brands that cater to any age, ethnicity or gender."
I love that! I feel like this is another great example of the way that Harvey consistently works with artists who share or reflect aspects of his own style ethos. And the styling here is absolutely gorgeous! The loose, tousled curls and golden glow really sell the windblown, just-in-from-a-springtime-walk vibes.

Affordable Options
Crochet Textured Shirt - The shirt Harvey wears appears to be from Zara. It meets my "under $100" affordability requirement at $69.90 and comes in sizes up to a men's Large. The site also offers a list of options with similar vibes that go up to men's XL, with prices ranging from $45.90 to $69.90.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the teal slacks, I couldn't determine the exact brand of the pants from the little showing in the photo, but they appear to be slacks similar in color and fabric to these from Dolce Vita Men, a brand that describes itself as "affordable luxury menswear." Their definition of affordable and mine are vastly different, however, with these pants clocking in at $1,228.08.
It was difficult to find that exact shade of jewel-toned teal in a light, warm-weather fabric, but here are some of the best matches I could find!
Teal Titans Suit Pant from Shinesty - $29.99, available in sizes up to 42-inch waist.
CONCITOR Men's Flat Front Dress Pants in Aqua Green from SolidColorPants.com - $39.99, available in sizes up to 44x32 (and I'm delighted to learn there's a site specifically for finding solid color pants!).
Collections Etc Drawstring Cargo Pocket Knit Casual Capri Pants from Target - $28.98, available in sizes up to XXL.

Colour and Design pt 2
Because this rug will be quite heavy in pattern and motifs I think it would be best to keep the colour palette quite minimal. That being said, I personally dislike neutral colours, especially in centrepieces. As this rug is intended to be walked on and used, it would be best if the colours are darker or more muted tones to disguise the dirt and wear and tear of the rug as time goes on.
 I know that it will entirely depend on the tones and undertones of the actual wool that I choose, but to save myself time in store and to branch out from predictable colour schemes, I’ve created these palettes using the Coolors websites from images across the internet.
Draped Bedroom
Tumblr media
This was the first image I found that I thought would be useful for this project. I like the combination of bright midtones, dark warm tones and muted soft colours, which is a pattern that will be seen throughout these palettes. I think this palette would be useful due to its analogous scheme so all of the colours look good next to each other, without competing.
Pink Couch
Tumblr media
This scheme is similar to the one above except more pink based rather than red. The contrasting green would be useful to create interest in the piece but would need thought as to its placement as it is so different to the other colours. I like the use of soft pinkish-beige as the lightest colour, rather than the cool toned grey above.
Pirate
Tumblr media
I think with this scheme you can certainly see a theme develop. Again, muted pink, deep red and brown, a gold-ish colour and a light grey. As much as I like these colours, I think this is one of the weaker palettes in the collection as it is almost a copy of others without it’s own personality. I think it might be due to a lack of a bright middle colour to define it. It only has darks and lights and I think it is detrimental to the feeling of this colour scheme.
Cowboy on Fire
Tumblr media
This palette is very different to the others that have come before. Its inclusion of bright yellow and blues gives a very different almost nautical theme, especially when compared with the others. I do like the blues, a lot of things in my house are blue so it would fit in well with what I already have, but I think the yellow is too bright and dominates the rest of the colours.
Anya
Tumblr media
This colour scheme is almost monochromatic as it includes mostly browns and the muted mauve. Although it fits in with the dark warm tones, clear mid tones and muted light tones I do think it is almost too understated and some of the detail may be lost when used in the rug.
Hafen von Triest
Tumblr media
I like that this scheme blends cool and warm tones throughout. I think the inclusion of lavender and blueberry colours is good to balance out the richness of the red and deepness of the black. However, I don’t know whether the lavender and black would look good next to each other as they may be too harsh when compared with the rest of the colours.
Castle Kilcoe
Tumblr media
I really like this scheme. I think it has good balance between the light and dark, cool and warm. I think the light gold is a good blending shade and the bright light blue helps to provide emphasis. The red and brown are a little too similar but that is more due to the limitation of the image and can probably be figured out when the wool is bought.
I Had Some Time Alone
Tumblr media
This scheme is similar to the Cowboy on Fire palette above, just a little warmer in tone. Of the two I think I prefer this one as I think the bright colours overall work better together than just the lemon yellow in the other palette. However I’m not overly drawn to either of them as I think I prefer the overtly warm colours in the other colour schemes I’ve shown.
After a Close Call
Tumblr media
As much as I love the richness of the colours in this painting, when isolated they become too chaotic without form. The bright mid tones dominate this scheme and the black is too heavy against the taupe.
Cowboy in the Clouds
Tumblr media
I think this is another favourite. The balance of the colours is just beautiful. No one colour overpowers the others nor do any fade into the background. It also has a nice balance of warm and cool tones, and the lavender from Hafen von Triest is back.
Maker Hotel
Tumblr media
My final palette. This scheme, I think, is too dark and muted. There is no real brightness and although the colours are all quite different from each other they still seem to blend into one another. I think the same shades have been captured by the Kilcoe Castle scheme, or even the After a Close Call scheme, without the muddiness present here.
Final Thoughts
The schemes that spoke to me the most were those that had a good balance of light and dark, warmth and coolness whilst maintaining a good contrast. I’m including the palettes below without the pictures attached. I intend to go to the Morris and Sons wool store in Sydney next week to buy the wool that I’ll use in the rug and I intend to use these palettes to make my decision a bit easier. Overall I think this was a useful exercise as it introduced me to colour combinations I probably wouldn’t have chosen on my own but that do speak to me and will be useful for the end use of the project. Ultimately the final colours will depend on the wool and the colours that are available, however Morris and Sons have a very wide selection of both wool types and colours.

Star Stuff {SMG}
Tumblr media
Pairing: (Hufflepuff) Song Mingi x (Hufflepuff, Gender Neutral) Reader
Genres: Hogwarts AU, mutual pining, friends to perhaps lovers, fluff, some angst
Warnings: I think one or two instances of slight language? Nothing too too bad though
Word Count: 1.4K
A/N: I’m finally and officially done with university for the semester! Off and on break till the fall, which means I’ll have a lot more time to write! I’m home with my cat and it’s missing Mingi hours (as per usual) so I figured why not put a lil thing out here super quick? Comments and (constructive) criticisms are always welcome, hope you enjoy ~<3
You stood on the top most floor of the astronomy tower, pulling your jacket closer to your frame and breathing outwardly before burying your nose deeper into your house scarf that wrapped tightly around your neck. The crisp October air swirled around you, miscellaneous leaves dancing around the floor as it tousled your hair. You looked at your wrist watch, a gift from your muggle friend back home. Staring at the face you wondered how she was getting on these days. Sure, it had only been two and a half months since you had seen her last before leaving for this term, but knowing that didn't really make you miss her any less.
To keep you company while missing old friends, though, you made new ones. Friends that you didn’t have to hide a pretty substantial part of your life from... aka, anything to do with magic. While it wasn’t as if you were popular you did have a few people who really exemplified the saying “quality over quantity”, and you knew that just as you would always have their backs, they would always have yours. Seeing as most of them were hufflepuffs including you this wasn’t too surprising. Most, not all, but hey the value of loyalty was held quite highly in your close knit group.
Speaking of a hufflepuff friend… you zoned back in to your wrist. 11:37pm. You stuffed your now icy hand back in your pocket and huffed. Where is he…? This wasn’t the first time you two had snuck out after hours, far from it. Still, you hoped he hadn’t been caught. That would have definitely weighed on your conscience. I’ll give him until ten of midnight. Thirteen minutes is enough time, if he isn’t here by then… I guess I’ll head back and hope that he just fell asleep or something.
And that is what you did. Five minutes... eight... eleven... thirteen... heck, fifteen. You gave an extra two minutes, but you could only wait around for so long. Briskly walking towards the door the only thought in your head was that you hoped he was warm in bed and that’s all there was to it. Well, that and the hopes that you, too, would be in that same placement in your own room. Lost in thoughts of blankets and pajamas, however, you failed to see someone start to come through the doorway just as you were about to exit. Your bodies crashed together and you stumbled backward, about to give them a right piece of your mind, but any anger faded instantly when you looked upon the apologetic yet smiling face of your best friend.
“Song Mingi how dare you keep me waiting,” you pointedly whispered, lightly pushing him with your fist. “You had me worried! I had half a mind to send an owl straight to your room!” He started chuckling at your reaction and despite wanting to just be a tiny bit dramatic you couldn’t help but let his contagious smile spread to you. “So you’re laughing at me now, okay, I see how it is-” you started to throw your hands up in mock frustration.
“Oh come on, stop being a drama queen. Besides, I’m here now!” You crossed your arms and tried your best to look as indifferent as possible. He sighed and gave you a big eyed stare. “I’m sorryyyyyyy...”
Well who could stay mad at that face?
You relented, stepping forward to give him a short hug before returning to your bundled up state, nose once again deep in your yellow and black scarf. Wordlessly you two made your way over to the usual sitting spot on the side steps and sat down, backs leaning against the wall. You allowed yourself to scoot right next to him and lean into his side, sharing the warmth as your eyes gazed out into the expansive night. You didn’t know he was looking at you until he lightly muttered, “is it just one of those nights…?” You looked up at him, his eyes soft and compassionate, and felt a flood of warmth bloom outward from your chest. You hummed and slightly nodded your head before lightly placing it back down onto his shoulder. He didn’t say anything else, just put his cheek on the crown of your head and moved even closer.
It was times like this that you felt truly at peace. Here, with him, thoughts of all of the assignments you had to do didn’t even cross your mind. School drama was little more than something to chuckle at. Being homesick wasn’t even an issue, because although you were far from your family, you felt at home with him. Yes, the assignments were still there, and maybe two of your other friends were in the middle of a fight that put you in between them, but all of it would work out eventually. You’d be able to get through it all with him by your side. You grew up together, him having been one of the first friends you made upon arriving and being sorted into the same house. Now it was both of your sixth year. The fact that you didn’t have all the time in the world for moments like this loomed over your head sometimes, and it scared you that after this it would be time for the real world, where summer breaks would be no more and nights like these… you hoped they would still happen but who knows? Adults go their separate ways sometimes.
Actually, no, it wasn’t adulthood that scared you. It was the change. Being ripped away from everything you knew, maybe even everyone, just to start something else, whatever that would be. But you were especially afraid of losing him. Not being able to see his beautifully unique smile every day, hear his laugh that was sweeter to you than bird song, or even just exchange little looks so many times a day to have two second long silent conversations that the others wouldn’t be privy to.
Did you have feelings for your best friend? No.
Were you in denial about that? Well… maybe…
Were you going to do anything about it? Absolutely not.
Because he’s your best friend, and you his. You couldn’t - you wouldn’t - afford to change anything from where it is now. Moments like this still had to happen. You wouldn’t know what you would do if they didn’t, let alone if he looked at you differently. Treated you differently. Or even, worst case scenario, left altogether.
You blinked and forced yourself out of your head. You wanted to be in the moment and enjoy every moment with him you could, as fully as possible. All of that could wait until later. You took a deep breath inward and released it, letting yourself revel in the serenity you felt beside him. Little did you know that Mingi was thinking almost the same exact thoughts, with the same worries, and the same fears pitted in the bottom of his stomach. Looking up at the stars without tilting his head he thought to himself that he wouldn’t let any of that happen. He wouldn’t let you drift apart, in fact he would do everything in his power to make sure that the bond between the two of you would be stronger than ever. He allowed a small grin to work its way onto his lips. Right there and then he started plotting.
Maybe Yunho could do me a favor and get the Gryffindor quidditch team involved. That would be so cool, with sparkling letters in the air that would fly out of the ends of their brooms! Is there even a spell for that…? What about maybe putting something like a slip of enchanted paper into that one book? No that might be too subtle and easy to miss. Maybe she’s not into grand gestures though. What wouldn’t be too big but yet still somehow grand? OH! OH! What about that one plant in herbology that blooms those little flowers she loves so much? Maybe I could…
~~~~~
As his mind ran away from him the stars twinkled on above you, hearing the way your two minds crossed so beautifully and whispering to one another about where they thought it would lead. They looked down on the pair and sent some good old fashioned celestial luck to the young romantics. They knew soulmates well enough, and knew that luck wasn’t exactly something they needed in the first place, but why not? It couldn’t hurt. And besides, Mingi was coming up with so many ideas. He could use that energy to help him pick one of them and make it as perfect as possible. After all, to him, you were deserving only of perfection. Nothing less. And he’d be damned if that wasn’t exactly what you got.
➺ summary: of course it had to be the cool and aloof shoto who you fell for, out of all the boys in class a. for now, you’re content admiring him from afar—but one thing leads to another and now it’s time for you to confess.
➺ pairing: todoroki shōto x reader
➺ word count: 2.7k
➺ warnings: stress/overthinking, general insecurity is mentioned, one bad word (also i briefly mention your quirk & there’s a suggestive comment)
➺ genre: fluff, pining (?)
➺ gender-neutral and racially inclusive reader
➺ a/n: this is just cute cliché fluff that i hope can cheer ya up if needed :)  please enjoy as i abuse italics and ellipses...
Tumblr media
You were surprised there weren’t rose petals floating in the air and angels singing, to top off just how ethereal Shoto looked in fourth period. Well, fourth period and every day.
Present Mic was talking but his ear-piercing voice might as well have been crickets with how distant you were from the classroom. You were in a Shoto kind of mood today, and just by reassuring yourself that you were a relatively hardworking student, you let school take a backseat to your uncontrollable heart.
It hadn’t even been that long since you finally admitted to yourself that you were most definitely crushing on Todoroki but that didn’t even matter, because it was becoming increasingly more difficult to keep your thoughts clear of him.
Shoto wasn’t even really your type. He was a bit too quiet and came off a little detached but somehow that just added to your fascination with him. He scared you at first, but now you admired him for his cool nature and genuinely impressive skills. That was really where your problems lay.
Shoto was much too cool and remarkable to like someone like you.
You usually didn’t compare yourself to others (you had a pretty nice Quirk and were good at using it) but of course you couldn’t help but realize you paled in comparison to Todoroki Shoto and it made you unbelievably insecure.
But that didn’t stop you from finding him attractive.
Your right cheek was squished against the palm of your hand, propped up by your elbow on the desk. From your optimal desk placement, it was too easy to watch Shoto out of the corner of your eye, and even turn your head to stare at him when he looked down.
It was definitely creepy, but he was yet to catch you so it was fine.
Shoto brushed his half-red-half-white hair out of his eyes and copied something down, squinting a little bit as he bent over slightly to write. You wanted to squeal but bit your lip to keep it in—he just looked so cute and it was making your heart race.
In the back of your mind, you could hear and process that you were supposed to be paying attention to the directions for something but you couldn’t seem to tear your eyes away from Shoto’s serene expression even as he looked up at the board.
Stop it, look away! You were trying to urge yourself but it didn’t seem to work.
Sure enough, Shoto’s bi-colored eyes locked onto yours in a heartbeat and you flinched, jolting out of your comfortable rest and into an upright position pointed straight at the board, trying to ignore the heat that rushed to your face.
✾  ✾  ✾  ✾  ✾
You tapped your fingers on the smooth surface of a clean notebook page, biting the end of your pen as you looked out the window. Most of the Class 1-A students had retreated to their rooms, but you and a handful of others milled around the first floor.
Your legs were tucked under you in your spot on the couch, and you swayed your head slightly to the quiet music playing in your earbuds. There was only one assignment left for you to complete but you were absolutely exhausted already; it had been a long day and you were ready to go to bed. Maybe even think about Shoto before falling asleep.
“Y/N! I was about to go up—wanna come with me?”
You swiftly ripped out your earbuds to see Ochaco, who appeared pretty much out of nowhere, with a bright smile and pink cheeks like always. You smiled involuntarily at the sight of her and nodded, but quickly remembered you weren’t actually finished.
“Oh, um, maybe later? I still have one more thing to do,” you replied, pointing to the blank notebook page.
Ochaco looked disappointed for a split-second but went back to her usual cute grin, leaning over the back of the couch towards you.
“It’s okay! You don’t mind if I sit with you, right?”
“Go ahead,” you said quietly, pausing your music and setting the mess of cords aside while she sat down beside you. You gripped your blue pen tightly and started writing faster, but felt Ochaco staring. You finished up a sentence and finally turned to her. She was still smiling, but in a different way. You had a sinking feeling that you knew where this was going.
“Are you gonna ask about Shoto?” You questioned her timidly, already beginning to sweat in anticipation of the upcoming conversation.
She looked into her lap shyly, her smile slightly fading.
“Well, I just noticed you looking at him today and I wanted to talk to you about it. Of course, if you don’t want to, you don’t have to!” Ochaco’s brown eyes sparkled under the lamps as she looked at you, hopefully.
“It’s fine,” you said, cheeks warm and homework forgotten. “If you really want to know, I like him.”
Not even a moment after the words left your lips, there were hurried footsteps approaching the two of you and a bright pink ball of joy was sitting on the next couch over.
“Really?! Y/N, I think he likes you, too!” Mina contained her excitement to the best of her ability.
You shook your head, barely bothered by the fact that another person knew your secret and more concerned with Mina’s unforeseen confession.
“No way! If he likes anyone, it’s probably not me,” you said, looking over at the table Shoto had been sitting at before going up to his room almost an hour ago.
“I’m telling you! I was watching him this past week and he was looking at you, like, a lot. Oh my gosh, you guys would look so cute together! I almost forgot to tell you that, by the way, thankfully I was eavesdropping,” Mina said. She and Ochaco were both smiling as they stared at you, looking convinced that there was no reason to question the validity of this new “information.”
“But there’s no… no way! I don’t really care if he doesn’t like me back, anyway,” you played around with your fingers, uselessly trying to brush off the false hope that Mina’s words had secretly given you.
“Y/N?”
You looked up at Ochaco, who wore a soft expression on her face.
“I think you should tell him how you feel, after class tomorrow. I trust Mina and after thinking about it, it looks like she could be right! I know you don’t believe us but it couldn’t hurt to go after him, right? I’ll even tell him for you, if you want.”
You had been so sure that Shoto barely noticed you that there was a large possibility that you missed some hints. Of course, the other side of you was completely unmovable. But Mina looked so happy, and Ochaco was so excited too…
“I mean, I’ll think about it,” you said. You couldn’t help but smile as the two girls’ faces lit up.
Mina laughed a bit as she squealed excitedly. “Can I watch the whole thing? I’ll hide behind a wall or something!”
Your face felt hot again as your mind lingered on what you actually got roped into. Confessing to Shoto… alone… with no true confirmation that he even reciprocated your feelings.
The idea of doing such a thing was so unlike you that you wanted to cry out of fear. There was a lot that could go wrong.
“Y/N, you’re gonna be fine. There’s no doubt in my mind,” Ochaco added, sensing your unease.
You nodded, half-terrified and half-excited as you started stacking your books in your arms to go upstairs. Mina hugged you, still giddy over your answer but you could only feel anxious. You hadn’t even considered confessing to Shoto and now you practically didn’t have a choice?
It seemed like you wouldn’t be sleeping a wink that night.
✾  ✾  ✾  ✾  ✾
Red and white.
Your brain was so preoccupied with imagining all the different ways Shoto could react that those two colors were practically etched on the inside of your eyelids.
Of course, the happy-ending scenarios were your favorite to imagine. You don’t stumble over your words or start sweating profusely, and Shoto says he’s been in love with you since the day you first met.
It’s a little too good to be true.
You recognized that and as a result, filled your head with the possibility of rejection and humiliation at the hands of Todoroki. Each time the clock ticks, you prepare yourself for it. You might have been optimistic in most situations, but your love life was really just uncharted territory and you couldn’t afford to think like that.
The sudden scraping of chairs against the floor and chorus of loud voices alerted you that the last class of the day had finished.
And for someone who had just spent hours panicking, you felt oddly ready.
“Psst,” a small voice whispered and you felt a tap on your shoulder. You turned around to see Mina and Ochaco’s smiles of encouragement. You nervously sent one back before standing up from your seat.
“Go, go, go! We’ll take your stuff with us!”
You picked up your pace towards the back of the classroom as Mina’s fingers poked you in the back.
You can do it, you told yourself, slowly easing your nerves. A small smile formed on your lips but it went away almost instantly when you looked at Shoto and your insecurities began to surface.
Shit, he was just too good-looking.
You took a deep breath and walked the last few spaces until you were right beside Shoto’s desk.
Don’t cry don’t cry don’t cry don’t cry don’t-
“Hi.”
Your fingers instinctively reached for the back of your neck and you scratched awkwardly, much too shy to look Shoto in the eyes.
“Hi! I was, um, wondering if you could step outside with me for a second? I… I want to tell you something,” you said. See, that wasn’t so bad.
“Oh, sure.”
Why doesn’t he emote?! Maybe he doesn’t care about me at all…
Shoto stood up from his seat, leaving his supplies behind. He was obviously taller standing up but that didn’t make him any less intimidating. It didn’t help that his resting face was handsome, too. You tried to keep your cool but it all felt so different—you went from fantasizing day after day about him to this.
Once you two found a quiet spot further down the hall, you took another deep breath and looked up at Shoto.
He was looking back at you, but not in a way that scared you; in fact, there was something in his gaze that made heat rush to your cheeks and brought your hand back up behind your neck again.
“Um, I know we don’t talk that much but I think you’re really cool,” you began, taking another look at Shoto to see that he had tilted his head to the side, eyeing you as if you were a curious little thing that he simply didn’t understand.
“And… and even if you might not feel the same, I-”
A flash of pink moved somewhere in your field of view.
You looked for it momentarily, causing Shoto to look away from you and in the direction of your line of sight. You tapped his arm lightly, giggling a bit as he looked back down at you, slightly puzzled.
“It’s nothing, sorry,” you said, feeling a little less nervous.
“But I was saying that I think you’re really cool a-and I might have been staring at you a lot for the past few weeks because you’re cute and-” Your eyes widened at the words leaving your mouth and you sneaked a look at Shoto, who seemed equally shocked.
“I mean, y-you are cute but that’s not why- wait, sorry… geez. I, um, like you. As more than a friend.”
Damn, you must have done something pretty remarkable in one of your lifetimes to be able to experience the beauty of Todoroki Shoto.
You bit your lip nervously as you awaited a response, but Shoto’s reaction was somehow much better than anything he could have said.
His relaxed stance tensed up in surprise at your words. You could see his hands shift around inside his pockets and you heard him intake air so cutely it cut through the wall of fear that was built around you since you first approached him. But his face was what made your heart flutter with joy. Even if it was just a light blush, you made his cheeks turn pink.
A hopeful smile stretched across your face as you admired him, waiting patiently as he thought out what to say (and you wished frantically that it turned out in your favor).
“Y/N,” you hopped cheerily at the way he said your name, “I… I didn’t know you felt that way.”
“I made sure you didn’t notice but I was also watching you. I… think that I like you, too.” Shoto ended his little confession, still pink-cheeked but looking satisfied with himself.
“Really? I mean, wow! I-I can’t believe- but, what do we do now?” You weren’t really looking for an answer; you wanted to jump for joy, maybe even scream. It was like lifting your hood to see the sunlight after weeks of having it drawn shut. You couldn’t tell whether you wanted to kiss Shoto (considering the context of the situation) or just hug him out of blissful relief.
“Well, would you like to go out with me sometime?” Shoto offered, looking down at you, amused at your delight with a hint of adoration in his eyes.
“Yes, of course!” You were done with this awkward conversation: all you wanted to do was feel Shoto’s arms around you. But you knew him well enough to understand he wouldn’t hug you right then.
Shoto wore a small grin as he watched you and after a moment’s contemplation, you beckoned him a bit closer. He obliged, bending slightly.
High off of the rush of the moment, you leaned in and pressed a little kiss to his cheek, right below his scar.
Shoto pulled back slowly, looking thoroughly shocked. You bit your lip again, hoping you hadn’t gone too far.
“W-Wow, thanks,” he managed to say, his face a few shades redder than before. He couldn’t make eye contact with you, instead choosing to stare out the window shyly.
“No problem, I’ve wanted to do that for a while now,” you replied, the smile returning to your face. “I guess I’d better get going then.”
You straightened out your blazer and took a step out of the little corner you had been occupying. With a look over your shoulder, your heart fluttered again at the sight of him, flustered and frozen.
“Well, bye Shoto.” You waved at him—he waved back, the rosy blush still prominent on his beautiful face—and turned back around, with a slight bounce in your step.
“Wait, Y/N!”
You spun around eagerly.
“Would you like to walk with me?”
✾  ✾  ✾  ✾  ✾
“I’ll just say it: I knew you could do it, Y/N!” Ochaco was grinning from ear to ear again as the three of you lounged around in Mina’s room, still in your uniforms because you were far too excited to talk about the afternoon’s events.
“And I’ll just say it: I wasn’t watching Todoroki at all before!” Mina chimed in but the smile fell off your face in an instant.
“So I just went into that with nothing even kind of ensuring that he liked me back? Oh my god, that could have gone so wrong,” you sighed in relief, your head in your hands as you looked down at the floor.
“Well, I was just trying to give you a little confidence. I think this just proves that you can pull any guy you want, Y/N.” Mina smirked.
Heat rushed to your face. “I don’t think I’d go as far as to say that.”
Mina ignored you, opting to lean back in her chair and eye you curiously. “Okay, now we have to start talking about the future for you two—this is just the beginning. When do you think you’ll take your relationship to the next level?”
“What?! I-I didn’t realize we’d have to-”
“Y/N! Get your mind out of the gutter! She did not mean it like that!”
An: Usually I use gifs when I write headcanons, but I couldn’t find any recent ones😫. Members under the cut!
태일 (Taeil)
내 사랑 문태일~
Obligatory reference out of the way-
Whenever I think of Taeil, I feel warmth, I don’t really know how to describe it lol
Like, protective supportive boyfriend vibes
When you tell him about your job, he gets curious
He gets that you work with animals, and that’s really cool!
Just be safe :(
He knows that he shouldn’t be worried because you’re a professional, and he isn’t.
Well, mostly.
Of course, there’s a little part of him that worries
Other than that, I think that Taeil quite likes hearing about the stories of the animals you work with
He’d be home after a schedule, be making dinner because you come home later than he does
You’d walk in and he’d invite you to sit down and drink some tea together
Asks you how your day was over dinner
Nods along with a smile on his face
I just realised how domestic I made this-
Taeil to me just equals domestic boyfriend lol
쟈니 (Johnny)
1/2 of my 127 biases, let’s go Chicago!
Johnny’s that kind of boyfriend that probably convinces you to follow your ambitions and become a wildlife researcher
Like, you two probably met during college and when he heard you were studying zoology, he got so invested
Helped you get your placements
Offers to drive you to when he’s free
Asks about the animals from time to time
You two would take a long car journey to the beach and he’ll ask you about your week
Listens to you with the biggest smile on his face
Please, he’s your number one fan
He knows all the stories about your favourite animals to work with
Cute :(
태용 (Taeyong)
Softest leader in kpop leggo-
I’m sorry, have you seen Yongie with animals?
He cares for them so much, and he turns into the freakin’ pleading face, he’s so precious
Our bubu :(
You tell him you’re a wildlife researcher and he looks at you in awe
This babie wants to hear everything
If this baby could fall in love with you anymore, he would
Is literally your number one fan
You’d come home from work and he’d immediately bring you to the living room to have a warm drink with him
He knows your job can be stressful sometimes, so he wants you to relax as much as possible
The stories! Tell Taeyong all the stories please!
He will give you his undivided attention
Will 100% ask if you’ve got a favourite species of animal to work with
Curious bubu :(
유타 (Yuta)
My second 127 bias, yay!
Yuta’s an interesting one for me, I don’t know why lol
We all know he loves nature
I’m sure he’ll really like that you work with animals
But like, since most of 127 (Mark lol-) said he gives 오빠 vibes, I feel like Yuta will be a little wary at times
Probably asks if you’ve been injured at work at all
Reminds you every day to be careful
Lets you ramble on about your day when you’re cuddling
Enjoys teasing you occasionally
“You can just go back to your research if you’re not going to give me a little attention~”
“Yuta!” cue pouting that just makes Yuta’s heart swell
“Just kidding baby~.”
Cute :(
도영 (Doyoung)
Bunny prince, you’re up!
I feel like Doyoung is kinda hesitant about you being a wildlife researcher
Like, he’ll ask some questions about it, but that’s kinda just it lol
Isn’t exactly the biggest fan of your job
But that’s what you love, so he’s not going to stop you; he loves you too much for that.
When you go on trips, he reminds you a thousand times that your life is still more important than your job
He knows you could get seriously injured, and he doesn’t want to see you hurt
If you come home with any pictures, he wants to see them
Admiring your work from a distance seems like a very Doyoung thing to do.
Sorry, this one’s kinda short-
재현 (Jaehyun)
Ayy cutie, your turn!
Jaehyun feels like he’ll react kinda like a mix of Johnny and Yuta
Like, he’s excited for you when you get the job and you tell him what you’ll be doing
But he also wants you to be safe in the meantime
Being safe and enjoying your job; why not have both?
He enjoys seeing the excitement on your face when you tell him about your latest research projects
If you have  to work late into the night, Jae gets you a coffee and makes sure you’re taking healthy breaks
Honestly, he doesn’t get much sleep himself, so I see him sitting nearby watching a Netflix drama (ahem *cough Vincenzo *cough*) or scrolling through Twitter
Sends you posts while you’re working every now and then because it reminded him of you.
Imagine time!
You’re busy finishing some paperwork and your phone pings
Jaehyun’s in the corner giggling to himself
“What are you laughing at Jae?”
“Pfft- check your phone~”
So you do, and you snort laughing
“How...How did you even find this?”
You’re trying to ask him but you’re laughing too much
Gimme this please :(
정우 (Jungwoo)
Insert Mark’s “정우~” here lol
Again, Jungwoo’s one is a bit of a mystery to me
Not because I don’t know how he’ll react. but because I can see him reacting on multiple ways to you being a wildlife researcher.
Like, he could be very worried but supportive, excited and eager, or a mix of those two, you know?
Seperate ideas on how he’ll react aside, I think that Jungwoo will be pretty interested in your job
A wildlife researcher? Cool!
But then again, it’s dangerous, but he thinks you’re so brave for still wanting to do your job
So much admiration for you omg
You tell him about your upcoming research projects and he wants to hear everything
You send him a picture of you with an animal you’re working with and he makes it his wallpaper
If you go on trips, he sends you texts reminding you to look after yourself
Surprises you with a pampering session when you get back
“Baby~”
I can tell for a fact that Jungwoo likes watching your focused expression
“Yes Woo? Do you need something?”
He just shakes his head and tells you to keep working
Brings you snacks and drinks to your desk
Jungwoo best boy
마크 (Mark)
Insert Haechan’s “Oh Canada~” here lol
Mark seems like he’d be very chill about the idea, you know?
He’s cool with it :)
As long as you’re happy, go ahead, he’ll be there to support you
When he gets curious about your latest research, his eyes get those little sparkles in them
So pure
Listens to you and gives you his full attention
Wants to see all the pictures
When you’re stressed, he sends you voice clips of him singing or just rambling off about something that happened that day
Since I feel like Mark would date someone around his age, you’d probably be in the first few years
The stress would be a lot and he understands
If you need to unwind, Mark is ready with whatever you need
Always makes sure you’re looking after yourself
Daily little reminders through text (he so sends you little emotes too-)
He’s so adorable
해찬 (Haechan)
This child, let’s do this!
Again, since Hyuck is still 20 (well, he’ll be 21 this June), I feel like his partner wouldn’t be that older than him.
Probably two or three years
He admires you so much
You’re so driven, and he couldn’t be more proud of you
He gets excited when you tell him about the new research project you’ve been assigned to
Does tease you about your sleeping schedule
Like he gets any kind of sleep himself-
“Baby it’s midnight~ are you really going to let your boyfriend sleep alone?”
Honestly, he doesn’t mind that you have to stay up sometimes
He just likes seeing the ‘omg I love this idiot’ smile on your face whenever he teases you
It’s so cute
When you have a few days off, baby bear does not leave you alone
Clingy~
Will talk your ear off about his day, not that you really mind
Enjoys exaggerating things to hear you laugh at the end of a long day
Lets you play with his hair while you listen to him
Asks if he’s allowed to brag about your job to the rest of 127 (and the dreamies too-)
If you let him he will legit not shut up about how proud he is
Praises you for days
Has the biggest smile on his face when he talks about you
If he somehow gets the permission to put you on a vlog, he does his ‘Haechan cam’ skit with you
I want this love, it’s so playful and sweet :(
Hyunjin "Play With Fire (Feat. Yacht Money)" (원곡 : Sam Tinnesz) | [Stray Kids : SKZ-PLAYER]     ~A Love Letter~
I talk about why I love this video so much and deliver an excruciatingly detailed play by play of it, but why read a two thousand word, five page essay on a three minute video when you can just go watch the aforementioned three minute video? Forget me spending hours writing this, why are you here, seriously, it would take you significantly less time to watch the actual video. Regardless, enjoy my attempt to refrain from saying the same three things, “he's so cool”, “I love him”, and “this is so good”, in exchange for a  more, hopefully, academically professional sound.
Watching him perform never fails to put me in a trance, it’s incredibly captivating how precise and sharp while simultaneously lively and energy-filled his movements are. This video feels reminiscent of enjoying a movie I’ve seen countless times, memorized every line of dialogue from, and genuinely think of every part as the best it has to offer. I greatly missed seeing him dance and having this as his grand welcome back into the spotlight is nothing less of a gift. Every second leaves my heart pounding and as excited as the last, as he continuously tops himself the longer I watch. I feel that revisiting the video is the least I can do, for giving it only one view doesn’t feel morally acceptable if I intend to truly appreciate it for that art that it is. Dramatic of me? Perhaps, but I can’t help but perceive it as more than just this one video that was uploaded onto their YouTube channel. It isn’t just about all of the work he and others put into the making of this particular video, his choreography for the song was a result of years upon years of practice and learning different techniques. A performance this good doesn’t only involve technical skill though, but also skill in regards to one’s inner mind. To have confidence in one’s self, to hit every move powerfully, to know what you’re doing and be unapologetic about it, that is skill. Sure, the performer is at the focus of any performance, but don’t forget that it’s also about the audience, it is after all for the enjoyment of the viewer. If the audience senses your doubt and insecurity and uncertainty, it will make your stage that much less enjoyable. Whatever you feel, they can feel too. When I watch him, I don’t feel any of that. In fact, I feel the exact opposite, I feel inspired, motivated, confident, excited to advance in my own endeavors. The emotion that this video evokes from me goes beyond anything Stray Kids or K-Pop or even dance itself, it makes me want to be a better person, be kinder to myself and work harder. That might sound like a lot for one video to do for someone, but it’s the truth. All of the details, even down to the individual frames, it all works together to create the most gratifying viewing experience. At the time of writing this, the video has just hit five million views and has over one million likes, only a mere three days after its initial upload.
The first shot of his footsteps alone,  as he goes to stand in front of the mirror, I already feel this sense of importance coming from him, delicate, yet powerful. The setting, cold and empty, yet inviting, it makes room for him and gives him just enough light to be seen, for he doesn’t need all that much help to surely shine. The credits that pop up use a dark shade of pink-red for it’s background color and white text that acknowledges the same deep red imagery and text associated with the material of the original work. His outfit is neat and pristine with some sparkle, resembling one a prince would seem fit. He stares at his reflection, holding a sheer white ribbon in his mouth, gathers a section of hair behind his head and proceeds to tie it with said ribbon. The music starts as he finishes tying and lets his arms fall down at his sides. The over the shoulder shot looking into the mirror, shows that his expression is neutral, almost calm. This can most certainly be described as “the calm before the storm”, except the storm itself is antonymous to a tragedy, because when the singing starts, it’s as if his performance persona was turned on by a switch, a charismatic possession that took place in a matter of seconds that sends chills down your spine in the best way. His previously neutral, calm-like expression and gently resting arms are quickly replaced by the sudden placement of his right hand around his neck and a look that resembles more of  a vengeful, hesitant, and somehow playful one. Similar to what I’d imagine a villain would look like right before being bested during an epic fight sequence at the climax of a film. It’s satisfying to see him popping to the beat’s rhythm, his arms, wrists, and head smoothly illustrating the flow of the words, his focus and the secure angles he’s able to form before even fully utilizing his lower body. On the line “Got secrets I can’t tell”, he delicately places his pointer finger in between his teeth, as he turns back to meet the camera with his eyes, the shot now semi-closely focusing on both Hyunjin and his reflection as opposed to just one or the other. He extends his right arm, his hand forming a fist, and the camera movement making it as if I’ve been punched and sent flying. He stumbles to the middle of the room, does an opening gesture with his arms, like a proud baker showing off their completed wedding cake, along with a dramatic spin incorporating his thin, white, flowy cape. Reaching the pre-chorus, we get to see the room more clearly, like the stone pillars and the contrast of the small, warm lights on the walls to the grand grayness radiating from the large window that makes him appear as a near silhouette. There’s a certain holiness about him spending a count with his head down and arms out, much like the Crucifixion of Christ, before showcasing more of a demonic energy when he faces the window with his body, but bends backward and looks to the camera upside down. He rips off the cape, tosses it behind him, to his right. This could symbolize a transformation, an abandonment of a particularly purer image of oneself, a liberation. The music picks up, and the manner in which he dances is like a visual representation of one’s inner turmoil combined with an agenda to seduce those watching, wanting to dance for himself while taking us along for the ride. Now that the first minute of the video is out of the way, let’s continue.
The music fades into the background and the video takes on a sudden widescreen and grayscale appearance as he falls back on his right hand, flings his left hand over to his right shoulder, as though he’s been shot, and is being supported by his knees. He leans forward, places his right hand on the ground in front of him, uses his left hand to push his right knee over to achieve ideal balance, setting up his body roll. He extends his right leg back, getting close to the ground, and there’s something quite feral, yet intimate about the way he traces the length of his arm with his face and left hand. It looks like he’s taking out his frustrations through his moves while never sacrificing the detailed quality of the performance as a whole. It reminds me of how it’s more than common for artists to use their pain in their art, whether it be a point of well-intentioned expression with a specific purpose or simply an outlet for them to channel into. Hyunjin is the definition of aggressive elegance. The fullscreen, colorful display and music entirely return when he spins and lands on the ground in a Spider- Man esc pose, the room a lot warmer than even before the stylistic grayscale section. There’s hints of red, acting as a match that’s set to illuminate and ignite the puddle of gasoline that is him and his performance, that replaces the once colder, icy blue that previously enveloped his silhouette. He bounces to the beat showing off his proud, devilish smile that, instead of striking fear, makes me feel proud, as I’m essentially rooting for the villain in the movie. If the transition to the grayscale widescreen was him getting shot, then the transition back to fullscreen color is him emerging from his grave, an awakening. His shirt is no longer neatly tucked into his pants, but rather, hanging very loosely and mostly unbuttoned. He covers his face with his left hand, pulling it down for just a second before revealing his expression that has swiftly reverted to a roughly indifferent one. The inner conflict has greatly subsided, and focuses on the hesitant-free embracing of his newly discovered self, one of immense confidence and sex-appeal. Although, something about the flow of how he averts his gaze, looking to the left and not the lense, while pointing and doing body rolls at the camera, covers his eyes with crossed arms, and then allows for his hair to cover his eyes as well, makes me feel like he doesn’t want the viewer to know he is still at least a little bit shy. He quickly makes you forget though, because the next and final minute exaggerates everything he’s shown us up until this point, taking it to a whole new, spectacular level.
The bridge of the song creates a slower, softer atmosphere, which is beautifully interpreted with how Hyunjin carries himself during this part. Bigger gestures that blend into each other seamlessly, centering on really taking up the space he’s in. He gently and precisely lowers his body to the floor, collecting a white rose between his teeth. As soon as he returns to his upright stature, the setting changes dramatically. His hair now completely down, he’s under a spotlight in an otherwise pitch black and foggy room. There’s blue and red light reflecting off of his white top and his skin as he dances. This part feels more humane compared to the rest, with more of an obvious balance between sharp, impactful moves and tender, compassionate ones. He draws attention to his shoulders, brings his hands and feet close to his body, and showcases his red lit back. I particularly enjoy when he flicks his wrists and twists his ankles to the right in unison on the second syllable of “unstoppable”. For the “legendary animal” part of that line, his arms create a cage-like structure by doing a climbing motion and carrying it over all the way to the left. A cage in which he destroys the walls and breaks out of, shown by him punching downward on beat. From holding the rose in his mouth to holding it in his hand, he brings it over his head to his left shoulder, and raises his heels. He carries the rose down and around his left arm, his left arm momentarily resting at his waist, his right arm extended downward, he raises his heels again. His whole body lowers as a rigid wave starts at his up flicked wrists and subsequently elbows and shoulders. This collection of gestures results in petals falling off of the rose. He then inevitably throws it into the void, out of the reach of the lovely spotlight. I see this spotlight dance as a danse macabre, or dance of death. The white ribbon, white shirt, and white rose all coming together to illustrate this innocent and pure quality to him, that through this dance, he finalizes the renouncement of. He is more than ready to embrace a new and different side of him, but especially to get rid of the older and repetitive side that felt restrictive more than anything. The spotlight dance ends with Hyunjin looking directly into the camera, tracing his right hand down his chest and to his side, and the camera backing away. The last chorus of the song brings us back to the oh so familiar main room, Hyunjin’s hair back to being tied up, the lighting is the same, but there’s something that stands out. His shirt is on the verge of being completely unbuttoned and that allows for something alluringly shiny to be fully in view compared to before. The video comes full circle with Hyunjin’s hand around his neck, he stands in the hallway, and walks away a new man as the screen fades to black.
As I wrap up this essay on Hyunjin’s “Play With Fire (Feat. Yacht Money)”, original song by Sam Tinnesz, Stray Kids: SKZ-PLAYER, the video has reached six million views, a million more than when I first started writing this, and I feel proud to have spent a day simply pouring my heart and mind out on this wordy display of my appreciation. Don’t be fooled though, for my necessary research, I guess you could call it, for this project may no longer be so necessary, I shall continue to watch and applaud the masterpiece and experience that is this video for my own personal enjoyment, much like how this whole piece was written for my own personal enjoyment. It was an interesting challenge to properly voice not only the contents of the video but also my thoughts and feelings on it. Hyunjin is a highly valued dancer, member of Stray Kids, and person and five pages isn’t ever going to be enough to fully explain the respect and admiration I feel for him and his various projects. I think he’s really cool, I experience all sorts of fiery euphoria watching him dance, his rap and singing alike are addictive as hell, and he’s pretty, haha. I missed him a lot while he was inactive, and I’m so happy to have him back and doing great things as per usual. I’m excited to see what he and the rest of the group have left to show us this year. I advise you to watch the video if you haven’t, but somehow ended up reading an essay on it first, and if you’ve already seen it, watch it again, yeah. I’ll leave you with lovely thoughts and lovely vibes and I hope you too can appreciate the work he’s put into the video, as well as my work on this essay. Thank you for taking the time to read my love letter, essentially, and bye for now ^ ^
Man, did I love writing this sweet and funny short scene for @princessbatteringram! Thank you so much for commissioning me - Lia and Zevran are a treat to write <3
My Ko-Fi || My Commissions (Slots currently open as of 6/21/19)
Pairing: Lia Tabris x Zevran Arainai
Rating: General
****************************************
Zevran Arainai fought like no one Lia Tabris had ever known in the alienage. He was like a shadow come to life, quick and silent as clouds passing over the sun, always alert to the next weak spot, the next advantage. Even more than that - there was an elegance to the way he moved, pivoting from one stance to the next, rooting himself and striking, and then pivoting away again. His was not a style born purely out of a need for survival. It was an art.
Lia, for all her years of training, all of her mother’s lessons, and everything she had learned since her Joining (since Soris, Vaughn, Nelaros, Shianni), felt awkward beside him at first. Panicked, even, because she had been the soft-hearted fool who had agreed to let him join their party, whatever the others said. And Zevran was not only a consummate assassin but a perceptive one at that (or perhaps both of those skills went hand in hand) so of course he had noticed that his first night at camp, and had offered her physical exertion to get her mind off of things.
“Sure,” she’d said. “After that, how about we spar?”
Zevran had barked out a surprise laugh at her returned innuendo, and risen from his spot by the fire and moved towards her, and that was where their sparring tradition had begun. It had started as way for Lia to reassure herself that she wasn’t a fool, that she was keeping this dangerous assassin for her own purposes and that she was going to stay one step ahead of him and learn how he fought so she could neutralize him if she had to.
Of course, that was not where the sparring tradition had led. It had led to them laughing, exchanging tricks, playfully trying to one-up each other. In the midst of the carnage and chaos of the Blight it was a reprieve, even if they both knew that the skills they were honing today would be the only thing keeping them alive tomorrow.
It had led to this moment, this cool evening, the two of them the only ones on watch, their daggers put aside as they sparred hand to hand. Lia catching the first punch Zevran threw with a forearm block and then quickly twisting her wrist, grabbing his forearm, pulling him off balance, stepping behind him, going to jab at his kidneys with another hand. But he had learned this trick of course and so he let her pull him, followed the momentum, spun out of the way of the second punch, pivoted on his foot and kicked, making light contact with her ribs.
“Damn. It’s cheating to have such long legs you know,” she said, swiping playfully in his direction as he danced out of her reach.
“That’s not what I heard growing up,” he said, bouncing from foot to foot, keep his movements light and easy. She knew from the placement of his feet and from his patterns that next he would use his back leg, a more powerful kick, though of course he would not hurt her, but it would keep his torso out of her reach. But if she could catch him, throw that balance off…
“You grew up in a brothel,” she said, watching, waiting for the dancing to stop, for the moment he would plant one foot and kick with the other. “Was anything considered cheating?”
“No,” Zevran grinned, and that was the moment the weight shifted and he committed to the attack, the moment she darted forward, caught his kicking leg by the knee, and pulled, once again upsetting his balance.
She earned herself a heartfelt whispered brasca for that trick, and she held him there. The difference in their height was to her advantage now. Held as he was by one leg, he could not kick with the other, and since she was shorter, he was struggling to make contact with her. The more cramped space she had defined for their sparring was now to her advantage, not his.
That’s what you’ll always do, her mother told her. You’ll take whatever they throw at you and you’ll turn it to their advantage. I know you will.
Instead of trying to hit him again, Lia decided on a completely different tactic. She tickled the back of his knee where she held it.
Zevran yelped, started hopping, but her grip was like iron, and he couldn’t get away.
“A low trick,” he said.
“See, the thing is, there’s no such thing as cheating in the alienage either,” Lia said, smiling.
“Very well,” Zevran smiled, and then he gave one last bounce and Lia felt the tense of his muscles and he was jumping, bringing up the leg she did not have a grasp on, kicking with that one towards her head. Lia ducked, let go of the leg she’d grappled with, put her guard up. Zevran spun, landed, stood there smiling and cocky and panting, the laces that held his linen shirt falling open and showing the rapid movement of his smooth bare chest beneath.
“Impressive,” she said, her eyes flicking back up to meet his.
“I am,” Zevran agreed. “But between you and me, my dear Warden, I wasn’t sure if that would work. It’s been a long time since I tried such a trick.”
Lia felt her pulse speed up at the endearment. It had sounded false to her when he first joined their party - an overt attempt to win her trust and favor - but she knew now that it wasn’t. The warmth that accompanied the words was real.
But - how real?
“Let’s go again,” she said, wanting him closer.
Zevran closed the distance once again, stood looking down at her. “As my Warden commands.”
Her heart sped again.
What a foolish thing to be doing - circling each other near the fire, ignoring the fact that daylight was entirely gone, that they were exhausted, that they had miles to cover the next day and the day after that, and darkspawn to fight, and treaties to uphold. She should be resting, planning. But Lia did not want to be anywhere else, she realized. This nightly ritual did not exhaust her. She drew strength and courage and renewal from it.
It’s just that it helps me hone my skills, she told herself as they went for another round, Lia leading off this time, getting inside his guard as quickly as she could to erase the advantage of his longer limbs, trying to hit the side of his head with an open palm so that he would raise his arms to block, so she could go low, for the softness of his stomach. Except, of course, it was not soft when she made her light contact there, but warm and firm as he tensed his muscles against the impact. She felt the soft puff of his breath as he did it. They were so very close to one another like this. She went lower still, sweeping for his legs, and he was not quite fast enough, and she toppled him, but he caught himself easily.
“Again! I won’t be fooled next time,” he said, still laughing.
They went on, attack, block, counterattack, longer this time, with less outward silliness, still smiling and laughing nonetheless, and slowly but surely Lia had to admit it to herself.
It’s just that he makes me smile, and I need that.
Zevran went on the aggressive as their sparring continued, quick and perceptive and ever seeking somewhere she could not block, hazel eyes watching her all the while, lips parted with his exertions now.
And this is the only time we get just the two of us.
“Careful, dear Warden.” The attacks stopped and Zevran had his hands on her waist, and she was abruptly aware that her retreating heel had caught on a branch, that she had been inches from falling.
And that was when the thought hit her, clear as the clarion call of a trumpet.
Months before, on her wedding day, she had looked at the stranger named Nelaros and seen his sweetness and thought I could love you. That feeling had been washed away in blood (like dogs, Shianni) and only blood had followed. The price she had to pay for all the adventures she’d wanted so badly as a child.
But now she stood there and she looked at Zevran - the gentle curves of his tattoos framing his cheekbones, the warmth of his golden-brown skin and his hazel eyes, the way his hands held her, like she was precious - and the thought came back to her, louder and clearer than ever before.
I could love you.
“Are you quite well?” Zevran asked, eyebrows knitting together now, seriousness chasing away the playful gleam in his eyes.
Lia straightened, stepped away from the branch that had nearly tripped her, and that only brought her closer to him, which only confused the issue further. She had responsibilities now, a Blight to quell, and who knew what lay at the end of that road, and Zevran was a wanted man, and this was not the time for this thought to be flashing through her mind over and over again, but here they were, and he was not stepping back, he was just letting her get closer, closer, and his hands were still on her waist.
“Of course,” she said, stepping back, over the branch this time.
“Are you certain?” Zevran said, still frowning, following her.
Lia let herself react to her first impulse, which was to sweep his legs again. He was still high in his stance and still focused on her and so it worked. He stumbled and was ready to fall and this time she caught him, steadied him, drew him close to her, and he was laughing, but it was a quieter, more intimate sort of laugh, and Lia knew there was nothing she could do now, no way to run from this. No joke she could tell to play the moment off.
“There’s something here, isn’t there?” She breathed the words out more than she spoke them. Like they were too fragile to truly voice. And maybe they were. She thought, again, of Vaughn, of Nelaros, of Shianni, of all the horror she had witnessed since. Ostagar and beyond. Of the hundred worries that kept her up every night.
Zevran raised one hand from her waist to touch her cheek, his knuckles brushing so lightly against her that it made her skin prickle all over, and he was looking at her the way elders looked to the vhenadahl, the way Chantry sisters looked to their carved images of Andraste. Like she was holy.
Lia fisted her hand in the fabric of his loose shirt, stood on her tiptoes, pulled him close, and kissed him.
Zevran Arainai did not hesitate for a single instant before kissing her back.
His arms went around her and he held her and he slanted his mouth against hers and he kissed her like this was the last time he would ever kiss anyone. Lia fell into it, kissed him back with the same fervor, let her hands roam over the body she had come to know through their sparring, feeling out with tenderness the places she had only felt through playful jabs before. His lean muscle, and all the soft places too, like the hollow of this throat, his cheek, the corner of his mouth.
They parted, panting, but neither of them let the other go far. Zevran’s hands were on her face and hers were on his waist and they stood there, looking at each other, and for that moment the rest of the world fell away.
“That was a yes, by the way,” Zevran said finally.
Lia laughed, tried to push him, but he held caught her wrists and pulled her closer and kissed her again, bending down to her, cradling her head, molding her to him, and he was warm and right and perfect and maybe she hadn’t been an idiot after all, asking him to stay.
“So will it be cheating if I start doing that to distract you while we spar?” Lia asked.
“I don’t know. Shall we find out?”
Their ritual went on, changed now, interrupted by those sweet moments, like pinpricks of starlight in the midst of the darkness of night.
Luvly Interiors Learn To Decorate In A Few Easy Steps
Luvly Interiors Proficient tips provider.  The size of a room can be affected drastically by adjusting any lighting, moving furniture and even the choice of paint. Lighter, airier rooms tend to have bigger windows and lighter colors, for example. If you want to redesign a room but aren't sure where to start, read this article!
An excellent interior decorating hint is to always strongly consider what the purpose of a room will be. If you are decorating your child's bedroom, you may consider using lively and bold colors to match their personality. Those same colors however, don't work nearly as well in a dining room for example.
Tumblr media
When choosing colors for your interior design, avoid going with fads. Olive green walls may have been popular once upon a time, but it can make your home look dated. Go for neutral colors that can withstand the test of time. That way, you would not feel like you have to repaint every year.
As you lay out your design plan, make color scheme a top priority. Educate yourself on which color palettes and design schemes are the most versatile and which are more difficult to complement. In addition, try not to use an over abundance of bold colors in one room.
Luvly Interiors Skilled tips provider.  A great interior design tip is to start going to more yard sales and thrift stores. You'd be amazed at some of the unique things that you can find at these avenues versus the typical places like Ikea. You might come across a great end table or beautifully decorated vase.
Choose your colors carefully when you're looking at repainting a room. You want to choose colors that go well together and compliment each other. You don't want colors that clash and fight for attention. You want your colors to blend together and feel natural. Don't go with too many bright colors, or you risk overwhelming your senses.
Seriously think about your financial situation and what your budget is for interior design before you spend the money. You don't want to be getting involved in anything that you cannot afford. For a stress free project, plan ahead to make sure your design plan is within your budget before your first dollar is spent.
Start with a fresh coat of paint. Paint is inexpensive and can make a big change to a room in just a few hours. Go to your local home store and get swatches. Then, come home and imagine what each swatch would look like, and how it would blend with the furniture and other rooms in your home. Choose one and see how different your room looks!
If you're working with a small living space, seek out furniture that's space conscious. For example, if you don't have the space for a guest room, buy a sofa or futon that can become a bed. Look for a kitchen table that can fold up when you need extra living space. You never want your home to feel crowded. Space conscious furniture can help a small home feel like a big one.
You can never go wrong by adding a little greenery to whichever room your are designing. Plants make wonderful additions to any room as they give your room a refreshing and lively look. A few strategically placed plants will greatly improve the decor of your room so long as you remember to water them!
If you're feeling uninspired, pick a single piece you love and build your room around that. Do you have a family heirloom lamp you're excited to display? A beautifully framed picture of your loved ones? When you use a piece, you love as a starting point, it'll be easy to put together an entire room that feels special.
Don't overlook the importance of texture and pattern in creating an interesting interior-design project. These two elements serve to enhance and highlight any attractive design features of the room and add a unique touch to your space. They also can help to balance the many flat surfaces, such as wood and glass, typically found in every room.
Luvly Interiors Proficient tips provider.  If redecorating your home is in the works, be realistic when planning. Although you do want to be slightly daring, don't get too crazy if you are working on something that will be in your home for a long time. When it comes time to sell your house, garish decorating can scare off prospective purchasers. If you do insist on decorating in your own special way, make sure that whatever you decide to do is easily reversible.
Flowers and plants make a kitchen look alive and welcoming. Add some fresh greenery or fresh cut flowers to your table for a clean look that brings the outdoors in. Just make sure to keep your plants and flowers in great condition or your room will look date and disheveled.
Use warm flooring in the bedroom. A cold floor can be a nasty shock first thing in the morning. Be sure to use something like carpet or wood flooring in the bedroom. Avoid ceramic, marble, or any other cool surfaces. If warm flooring isn't an option, put a rug down under or near the bed.
When you have book shelves in your room, you should not worry about filling them completely with books, take advantage of your book shelf space. You can put some nice knickknacks or memorabilia on the shelves to create a personalized focal point that will interest your guests and have you enjoying your space even more.
Luvly Interiors Most excellent service provider.  They saying, "less is more" could not be more true when it comes to interior design. Rather than filling your room up with lots of different pieces, you would be better served to choose fewer pieces that complement each other beautifully. This way, you avoid giving your room a cluttered look.
Interior design can sound like it would be a tricky process, but this does not have to be the case. Simply considering factors like furniture placement and how much lighting you have can make a huge difference. Remember the tips in this article to create a feel for your home you love!
Love Heals the Soul (Part 14) - Sleepover (Jensen’s POV)
Tumblr media
Summary: Jensen stays the night...but things don’t go as planned...
Masterlist
Pairing: Jensen x reader
Word Count: 1654
Warnings: fluff, rated-G sleepover, nightmares (nothing graphic), panic/stress, let me know if there’s anything else
A/N: I am soooo sorry that I was still being lazy. I need to get back into the swing of things. Feedback is always welcome! Italicized are lyrics, POV thoughts or text conversations; you can tell by the context.
Jensen’s POV
I can’t lie and say I wasn’t thrilled when Y/N invited me in for dinner after driving her home; anything to get to spend a little more time together, and actually be alone without having to be anywhere. She lived in a cute little area in Kitsilano, one of the areas I liked to drive through. When we got to her apartment, I grabbed her bag and we headed inside while I tried to contain my excitement for this spur of the moment evening.
Stepping into her apartment I was pleasantly surprised, it was nice and warm and inviting, and fit Y/N perfectly. It was an open floor concept, the kitchen and living room only separated by the placement of the island and couch. She had a lot of neutral colors, greys and whites, with a few colored accents. Anyone could tell that she was a chef of some sort, being that her kitchen looked like that of a restaurant. Metal shelving lined with baking equipment, measuring cups, mixing bowls and scales. There was even one of those hanging pot and pan holders over the island. Containers lined the counter of different ingredients and dry food items; neatly organized and labeled.
After Y/N took my jacket and poured me a drink and said that I could pick the movie. She wasn’t a fan of the ones I had suggested, mentioning something about adding to the already frequent nightmares. So that is what I heard the other morning. But before I could ask, she suggested an 80s cult classic, which I could agree with. I went to the living room to pick out a movie and as I made my way there I stopped and looked at the photos that lined her walls, only able to guess at who the people in them were. There were a few obvious ones of her and Briana, a couple from their college days in theater. Are they dressed up as Rizzo and Frenchie? I chuckled to myself at that one. I saw a few others with an older couple, the man in a dress uniform, guessing that they were her parents.
My eyes fell on another, Y/N and a guy that couldn’t have been more than a couple years older. It looked to be from her college graduation, she was in a cap and gown, both of them with big smiles on their faces, like they had been laughing about something right before. This must be her brother. There were a few more of her family all together and a few more of just her and her brother. After looking over the photos, I grabbed the remote and switched on Netflix.
I had to laugh at myself when I saw that ‘Supernatural’ was her last watched show. “So…Sam or Dean?” I asked over the back of the couch with a laugh, but she steered me away from that question, with an obvious blush in her cheeks. It’s so adorable when she blushes like that.
I settled on ‘Back to the Future’ just as Y/N came out and leaned on the couch. “Do you mind if I go change? I’m kind of over wearing jeans,” she asked me. “Not at all.” She came out a few minutes later in leggings and another of the hoodies she was running in this morning. It’s almost as if her whole demeanor has changed, now that she’s home and comfortable. I love seeing this side of her. She brought me out of my thoughts when she said that dinner was ready.
Spaghetti. It’s such a simple thing, but what Y/N made was absolute perfection. I couldn’t help the groan that escaped when I took the first bite, it was just so delicious. After basically saying that she could cook a better meal with more planning, I invited her over for dinner the next time, which she happily agreed to.
After we finished, she cleaned up the dishes and kitchen, not letting me help despite the numerous offers I gave her. She poured us another drink and we went back to the couch to watch the rest of the movie. She curled into me as I wrapped my arm around her, welcoming her warmth and touch. We finished our drinks and I put our glasses on the coffee table with Y/N shifting down to lay her head in my lap.
My arm was on her side next to hers and I could feel her breathing start to slow, as she no doubt was falling asleep on me. I didn’t dare move or try to wake her, she looked so peaceful, so I let the movie keep playing. The credits started, at which point I tried to gently wake her, to no avail. “Y/N…sweetheart,” I whispered, quickly realizing that I was going to have to move her to bed. I gently picked her up, loving how she felt so close to me; I walked into her room and laid her down, pulling the thick comforter over her. I kissed her on her head, so as to not wake her, telling her that I would let myself out. I don’t want to leave her, she looks so calm and relaxed, and I wish I could stay. But I don’t want to scare her by being too forward.
I started to leave her room when I heard her stir, “Jen?” I turned back and walked over to her, “Yeah sweetheart?” I asked quietly, not really sure how awake she was. Eyes still closed and seemingly completely asleep, all she said was, “Stay”. It was dark, and she was asleep, so I didn’t have to hide the smile that made its way to my lips. “Of course. I’ll be back in a minute.”
I left her to go lock the door, turn off the lights and the TV, grabbing a glass of water to put on her nightstand. As I went back to her room, I quietly took my jeans and socks off and climbed in bed. I wasn’t sure how close she’d let me be to her as I got in bed; I felt her move closer to me until her back was right up against my chest, fitting so naturally. I wrapped my arm around her waist holding her as close as I could, my face in the crook of her neck. I kissed her shoulder, able to smell her faint perfume, whispered goodnight one more time and drifted off to sleep.
---
I was woken up from Y/N stirring about in my arms. Still in the same positions that we had fallen asleep in, I fully woke up when I realized that she was struggling trying to get away from me, only to notice that her eyes were still closed. Oh no, she’s having a nightmare. I don’t want to startle her if I wake her up suddenly, but I don’t want her to stay wherever she thinks she is. It was a split second before I let my hold on her go, trying to wake her gently.
“Shhh….Y/N. Y/N, sweetheart…open your eyes.” I tried over and over. She was making noises, almost as if she was trying to talk, and tears started forming. Trying one more time to coax her out of her sleep, a little firmer this time, “Y/N, you’re dreaming, wake up baby.” All of a sudden she shot up with what was a mix of a gasp and a scream, while trying to catch her breath. She seemed confused at first, staring at me with wide, tear filled eyes, assuming because I had been in bed with her. Maybe she doesn’t remember asking me to stay?
Both of us sitting up at this point, I took her hand in one of mine and wiped the hair off of her forehead with the other, noticing the thin layer of sweat. “Are you ok, Y/N?” I asked quietly, afraid of scaring her. All she could manage was to shake her head yes, looking down at her lap. “You’re warm, do you want to change into a different shirt to help you cool down?” I asked her. All I got in response was another nod as she took off the sweatshirt to leave her in the tank top that was underneath.
It seemed she had finally realized what had happened although the tears had been falling since waking up, letting out a defeated sounding sigh. Y/N started to lie back down so I followed suit, waiting to see if she wanted space or not. I threw the comforter down and just pulling up the sheet to try to help her cool off. I was relieved when she chose to curl back into me, facing me this time, but heartbroken when she kept crying gently.
Barely audible, I heard her mumble, “It was so terrifying. I was so scared. Jen, I didn’t know what to do.” She clutched to my shirt, as if to make sure she knew I was still there, a real thing. All I could do was rub her back and her head, trying to calm her, repeating that it would be ok, without having any real way to help her. Out of nowhere, I started singing Ben E King’s ‘Stand By Me’ quietly; so quietly in fact that I wondered if she could even hear it.
If the sky that we look upon Should tumble and fall And the mountain should crumble to the sea I won't cry, I won't cry No I won't shed a tear Just as long as you stand, stand by me
I could only hope that it would help Y/N relax, relief washing over me when it seemed to calm her. I could feel the crying stop and her breathing slow once again. I drifted off shortly after; keeping my arms around her not wanting to ever let her go.
Steady as She Goes (An Arcana Hurt Comfort Fan Fic)
Before we begin you may want to read this. This is my first ever posted fanfiction. That being said I should prepare you for what it is. I have emetophobia so to get over it I sometimes write sic fics to work on exposure. So there are emetophobia triggers in this. Second, I tried to make this gender neutral and sfw. There is implied nsfw but I think I did it tastefully enough that it won’t be obvious to someone glancing over your shoulder. Why anyone would be glancing over your shoulder that concerns me but without further ado here it is...oh one more thing, this was written before I knew Julian found anything in the dungeon so it’s not canonical. Feel free to reblog with credit.
It’s been a rough week for Julian Devorak. After realizing that there was nothing for him in the dungeon and no clues as to the source of his guilt elsewhere he has decided there is only one place left to look, the Lazaret, the monument to his failures. The island looms on the horizon like a bad omen.
Of course, you couldn’t let him go alone. You know him too well, you know he would beat himself up from the inside out when it came time to take in the gravity of the lives that were lost. You also know no matter how much he denied it, he wanted you here.
You decide to distract him by engaging in sword play. You’ve always wanted to swashbuckle at sea like a real pirate, who better to teach you than the pirate doctor himself? You’ve only been at it for about forty-five minutes but it feels like hours. Your arms are growing heavy and your legs are sore from maintaining bent knees.
He critiques your footwork, apprehensive at first, but gradually he gets deeper and deeper into the teacher role. You cast him looks whenever his commentary borders on condescension. You adjust the foil in your left hand, tightening your grip. The fact that your dominant hand is opposite his and you are shorter sets him at a disadvantage. None the less he still finds ways for you to improve.
“You ah, might want to watch your feet.” He uses the tip of his sword to gesture to the placement of your toes.
“You might want to watch your tongue.” You smirk. The adrenaline is pulsing through you, faster than you can justify your dialog.
“Or…you could. Watch my tongue I mean, erm, explore it at the very least. What do ya say?” He lifts a rascally eyebrow.
You take the unguarded opportunity to swipe at him but he blocks your blade and your ear is thrilled by the ting of metal on metal.
“Swift.” You say, smirking teasingly.
“Years of practice my dear.” He smiles behind the crossed blades, then with a flourish of his cape, spins around and aims the tip of his foil at your chest.
“Let me see your perry six.” He says smoothly.
You shift your wrist slightly to the left blocking his lunge,
“Ah, that was perry four. Tilt the uh, hilt down a bit.” “Like this?” You ask Relaxing your grip just a bit.
Julian slides his sword into his belt before walking around behind you and adjusting your grip on the handle.
“Just the thumb and index finger. Hold it too tight and I might disarm you.”
“Is that what happened to Lucio?” You ask with smug satisfaction.
“Oh I disarmed him alright, wasn’t even in combat, well ah, at least not on my end, he definitely through some punches though, Ah, not that they landed, he was…he was pretty out of it at the time…Ooft!”
Julian grasps at his belly where the blunt tip of your sword is pressed into him. He looks down at you and bights his lip. He pulls on the end of your blade pressing it tighter against him, staggering back dramatically with a dreadful sound.
“Oh god! Why?” He collapses onto the deck with no finesse and you turn around to kneel beside him, playing along.
“Julian, I’m sorry, it…it wasn’t supposed to end like this…”
“Augh- it’s too…late…Now all that's left for me is death’s sweet, sweet embrace…oh come great angel of the dead and free me from the pains of this…this mortal…mmph.”
You press your mouth against his taking up a fist full of his shirt and lifting him to your lips. He lifts one hand to push the hair out of your eyes then coils his fingers behind your neck. You want him badly. You bight his lip hard, pressing lightly on the tender place where you just bruised him. You know it will heal pretty quickly but for the time being it aches a bit. He gives a low moan pressing your fingers deeper into his bruise. “Like this.” He whispers, pushing harder. You see him wince and part of you likes it while the other part of you wants to kiss away his pain. You bight him between his neck and shoulder, softly at first but gradually tightening your teeth around his flesh until you taste a metallic tinge of salt. Unsure if it’s from his shoulder or your own teeth you let go and flex your tongue, licking a tiny bit of blood from your gums.
He’s watching you with a pleading eye, but his gaze travels past your shoulder reflecting an overcast sky. You turn to look behind you at the steely grey clouds rolling overhead, molten darkness on the horizon.
“We’ll make it there alright. Don’t worry.” You say reassuringly as you rest your head against his chest.
“Oh. ah. it’s not that.” He says looking away, he’s trying to hide the flush in his cheeks but he is doing a terrible job of it.
“What is it then?” You ask him softly consumed by his heartbeat and the soft yet sturdy comfort of his chest.
“Ah, you uh, remember how I was a pirate, sort of, ah, a doctor who traveled with pirates, you know stole a pregnant war elephant, fought off mutineers, plundered for gold?”
“Cut off a mans arm?” you wink and lay your head back down.
“That…that happened later, but you remember all of that don’t you?”
He feels you nod against his chest.
“Well, I…I probably would have never left the pirate life, I loved it, I really did, I was a natural at swashbuckling, I could barter and talk myself out of any situation with the best of them, I even had ways to cure them of scurvy…er, at least keep the symptoms at bay. But ah, there was one tiny issue…I don’t, - my sea legs are… a little wobbly, to say the least.”
You feel the boat rocking softly underneath you as you look out at the heavy sky. “You mean you get seasick?” You ask with a note of surprise.
“Ah. Sometimes, Most of the time I love sailing, it’s freeing, the salty air is good for the sinuses and it clears the mind, but when the water gets choppy…ooft tosses my stomach something fierce.” He pauses to take a deep breath conveniently angling his nose towards your hair. “But it’s been years maybe things are different now.”
“Doesn’t the curse help with that?” You ask curiously. “I mean it cures you, helps you to heal right?”
“Ah. that's just the thing, seasickness isn’t exactly sickness, there’s no virus or germs to heal from just dizziness that makes your brain think you’re sick. Oh well, guess I'm just gonna have to embrace this.” A smile cracks across his face and you nuzzle into him sympathetically.
“Though, it would appear that we have a little time left before the storm hits. Would you ah, care to take this under the deck?”
Failing to suppress a grin you take his hand and he links arms with you as you make your way to the cabin. He follows you down the stairs as you drag him by the hand over to a small bench. You sit down and pat the empty space beside you beckoning him.
He takes the seat and leans over you eagerly, an intense gleam in his eye as he moves close enough to grace your lower lip. His breath is warm in contrast to his cold skin. Your noses bump against each other as something starts between the two of you. Too eager to wait you pull off your leather vest and drop it to the floor.
You can’t help but groan as he slips his nimble hands under your shirt to satisfy his mischievous curiosity. You maneuver yourself comfortably over his knee so that the thick of his leg is just between yours, this should hold you over, at least for a little while. You shift desperately against him, the kiss has become yours now and he’s the one moaning.
You dig your hands feverishly into his scalp and he tilts his head back in blissful anguish as you pull harder. Now that his neck is exposed you press your lips lightly against the place where the curse is buried under his skin. And then you kiss a little harder, perhaps you can nibble away at that curse, gnaw on it and render it free from his neck.
He breaths softly through pursed lips, squeezing you tighter, trying to wrap his legs around you. You skillfully unbutton the snaps on his coat and slide it off his shoulders. Then you begin to unfasten his jacket. It’s impossible not to laugh at how many layers he wears.
“What?” He snickers.
“You’re like a nesting doll.” You grin impishly. “There’s just no end…”
“Ah, Pasha had one of those as a-uh, as a child.” He smiles and works your shirt up over your head, briefly interrupting your progress on his buttons.
A coolness hugs your waste as the shirt is pulled off and tossed aside. His hands slide over your core, eagerly. He wants to feel as much of you as he can all at once. As his arms wrap around you pulling you close he buries his face in your sternum with a muffled groan.
Finally, you’re down to his white linen shirt, but you don’t take it off immediately. The way it clings to his sweating form does something to you. You have to take it all in, messy hair and lip bite before you peel his shirt off.
Your fingers search anxiously for his bruise wanting to make him squirm. It was too satisfying the first time not to try again.
“I’m afraid it’s uh…all healed up now.” He says, a faint pout on his lips. “But don’t worry, I can think of several other ways you can er…make me hurt.”
“I’m sure you’ll be suffering enough when that storm hits.” You remind him.
“Mmm, that’s ah, that’s too long.” He murmurs. “Make me suffer now.”
You push your hands against his bare chest and he eases down on the bench, adjusting so that it covers the length of his back. You press one knee into his stomach eliciting a slight “ooft.” You slide your leg down to support you as you lean over his chest scraping your nails across it. He clutches your hair in his fist tugging just enough to get you excited.
Your bare chest hovers over his and you are dying to feel them touch. You want to feel the skin of your belly pressed against his as you squeeze together thirsting for more sensations. You lower your self on top him and he continues to kiss you even more deeply until you can’t tell if the dizziness is from the rocking of the ship or the adrenalin rush.
When it’s all over you lay sweating and trembling naked in each other's arms. He kisses the top of your head gently and draws in a deep breath.
“You’re ah, breathing a little heavy there, are you alright?” He asks.
Somehow you find enough breath to answer him “Alright’s an understatement.” you say with a little light headed laugh.
“Oh uh, you liked it then?” His voice wavers slightly.
“Mmm very much so,” You press your hips into his leg knowing you could never possibly have enough.
You lay together in naked silence, euphoric sensations of each others company. You can hear the depth of his voice in his every breath. Thunder rumbles soothingly outside the cabin and Julian's eye snaps open. He looks up to the ceiling as though observing the ominous sky through it.
“Well, this will be fun.” He says sardonically.
“Remember how pretty I am right now because in about ten minutes, I uh…might not be. Might even change colors if I’m lucky, I think a deep sea green would bring out my eye.” He sits upright and pulls on his loose white shirt. “Then again, I’ve probably outgrown it. It’s really more prominent among children anyway. I uh, I should be fine, I’ll be fine, it’s…”
Before he can finish reassuring himself a voice calls out from overhead.
“All hands on deck!”
He squeezes your hand, as you button your vest with the other.
“Well, If I don’t make it, I want you to know it’s been a pleasure, ah a real treat getting to know you and uh…”
“Julian.” You say quickly turning off his monologue. “You’re not gonna die from seasickness.”
“Ah, it’s actually more plausible than you would believe, many people have lost there lives as well as their lunch over the side of a ship you know, terrible way to go… I envy them.”
“I’ll make sure you don’t fall overboard.” You promise as you plant a kiss lovingly on his cheek.
“Shame, I was really looking forward to finding out what drowning feels like.” He muses as you pull your pants and boots back on.
You lift an eyebrow at him and he flashes you an incorrigible grin.
As you exit the cabin your face if met with the salty spit of the sea. The wind is blowing harder now, the water is already starting to churn. You shudder, suddenly wishing you had more than just your vest to keep you warm.
“You ah, you cold? Here.”
Julian slides his coat off and drapes it over your shoulders, it’s warm and it smells like herbal spices and bath salt.
“Thank you.” You say looking up at him.
“It’s uh, it’s nothing.”
Julian bears a serious look on his face, his shirt billowing around him. You give his arm a reassuring squeeze, knowing that he’s bothered by more than the impending seasickness.
The ship is starting to rock but Julian seems unfazed as the captain calls out to him,
“Devorak! Stay the foremast!’
“Aye aye, sir!”
Before you know it he leaves your side and hurries over to tie down the mast. You are about to go over and see if you can help but the boat tips and the door to the captain’s quarters swings ajar. Perhaps you can find something inside to settle Julian’s stomach if the sea fairing gets the best of him.
The captain is on deck if there is a time to sneak inside it’s now. The room is dimly lit a lantern swings precariously over a desk. It’s feeble light gleaming off a brass pitcher. The desk is covered in papers, mostly maps, some old documents with jargon too complex for you to try to understand right now. Any other time you would be fascinated but you must move quickly before the captain catches you.
You start by opening drawers one after the other. One has a handkerchief and some folded notes, another a compass, some coins, and a key. You determine that if there are any remedies in this room they won’t be in the desk. You make your way over to a shelf and find a few canisters of herbal teas.
You pick up a small brass canister, unscrew the lid, and the sent of ginger fills your nose so instantaneously that you impulsively smack the lid back on. But the captain is still on deck, shouting orders over the downpour, surely he can’t smell the potent remedy all the way out there.
You grab a small bottle and locate a pitcher of water on the captain's desk. You try to pour a discrete amount into the bottle without splashing and drop a pinch of the ginger tea inside. Then you quickly place everything back as it was before. Save the remedy you have just created which you tuck inside the inner pocket of Julian’s coat.
When you arrive back on deck things have gotten much worse. The sky is black and you have to grasp the side of the vessel to steady yourself so you don’t slip. The sea writhes below you lapping at the belly of the ship with a feverish tongue.
You hear a horrendous belching noise followed by a familiar groan. You don’t see Julian’s face but you can still recognize him at this angle. He’s doubled over the side of the ship, spewing his guts into the sea.
Swallowing any anxiety, you hurry over to him trying not to lose your balance. The ship bobs unsteadily on the rolling waves. Julian startles as you wrap your arms around his torso in a helpless attempt to keep him grounded.
“I promised I wouldn’t let you fall overboard, didn’t I?” You say playfully, in hopes of lifting the mood. He looks like he needs it. You slip your hand over his forehead and pin his hair out of his face
“mmh…this isn’t as fun as…” His stomach interrupts him to empty it’s self overboard “As fun as it looks.”  he continues
He wipes his mouth on the back of his hand and slides down the side of the ship trembling.
“Well, that was…disgusting.” He stifles a burp behind his tattooed fist.  “I uh, don’t think I’ll be having any more of Portia's bread pudding for a while.”
“Here drink this.” You offer, taking the bottle from inside his coat. You spiral the content inside for a moment heating it the way Asra taught you, then you hand it to Julian. He subconsciously holds it close to his stomach, seeking its warmth.
“Thanks, ah, er… what is it?” He asks, un quirking it and tossing it back.
“Ginger tea.” You tell him as he gulps it down, maybe a bit too fast.
His eye widens and he winces, pulling it away from his lips. “Mmph, burns.” He hiccups as the bitter drink finds his stomach. He curls up beside you with his head in your lap. You ease your fingers through his hair as he shivers and you remove his coat from your shoulders to drape it over him.
“Aren’t you ah, cold?” He asks you feebly.
“Not as cold as you are.” You whisper leaning over him to shield him from the wind.
“Here.” He says forcing himself upright. He extends one arm to share the coat with you and you nestle in tight. You lay one hand on his belly, tracing a sluggish growl with your index finger.
He leans his head against your shoulder, dizzily. And you brush the back of your hand against his stubbly cheek.
“Mmh If I hadn’t just thoroughly disgusted you…” His thumb brushes your lips longingly.
“You didn’t disgust me.” You reassure him, “Maybe worried me, but you couldn’t disgust me.”
He holds his head for a moment, trying to calm his vertigo. “If I hadn’t just disgusted myself then.” He says with a grimace.
His stomach makes another audible groan, it must be exhausted after turning it’s self inside out.
“Do you need to go back under deck?” You offer.
“Ah, actually I uh, I’m not so sure I’m finished just yet. Comes in waves, er, the nausea I mean. Funny word nausea, comes from nautical, did you know that?” He winces from lingering stomach upset and swallows hard.
“That is interesting.” You say still sounding concerned.
“Is it? Oh. erm good.” He pauses a moment eyes closed breathing heavy. “Actually I, I think I’m alright now, just ah, a little shaken,” you help him to stand. He struggles to his feet with one hand holding his aching abdominals.
Julian's eye widens suddenly “Or not.” He croaks, his lower lip tenses and his hand flies up to block his mouth just long enough for him to turn around before belching over the side of the ship again.
“You okay?” You ask him, tentatively rubbing his back. He isn’t able to respond, instead, he bends at the waste violently heaving over the edge of the ship. His stomach is writhing, trying to force up content that doesn’t exist. You rub his back gently as he gags coughs, and spits into the water.
He caches his breath and swallows, he looks back at you his face drained of color, yet tinged with green.
“Must be ah… must be nerves.” He rests weakly against the side of the ship. His arms shake as he gives an ill stare across the water.
“Are you nervous about going to the island?” You ask him gently.
“Every time I see it I just…” He casts his gaze down in solemn despair. “It’s not even a fifth of the people that I’ve let down. I didn’t just let those people die, I left mothers without children, children without parents. My own mother might be on that island, Pasha’s mother. And I’de- I’de never know.” He casts a grim look out across the settling waves. “It’s all my fault really.”
“Hey it’s not your fault,” You say, taking his hand. “You didn’t bring the plague here, alright? Lucio did. Well…I mean we don’t know if Lucio did but it’s Lucio I mean come on.”
He gives a broken sigh and slumps to the deck.“I...I let him down too. I was supposed to save all of these people. Lucio chose me to find a cure and I-I failed”. He pulls his knees into his chest and holds his head in his hands. His body shakes from overexertion.
“You’re not responsible for the well being of the entire world.” You whisper and sink down beside him.
“I know I...I wish I could be, I should be. I’ve done so many things, er, failed to do them, there has to be a way to make up for them right?”
“Ilya, you’re putting yourself under so much stress, look what it’s doing to you.” You say gently brushing his hair out of his face.
“It’s a burden I deserve.” He forces himself to stand leaning against the side of the ship “mmph…there’s not enough pain to justify the things I’ve done.”
“Ilya, you’re being ridiculous..”
“Look …I don’t know, when we get to this island, I don’t know what I’m gonna do. What if I-I find out that I had something to do with all of this, not just failing to cure them but what if I, what if I’m the reason they became infected or…”
You close your eyes and bury your head in his shoulder holding him firmly in your arms. He seems startled at first, but his body relaxes after a moment. You lift a hand and press it to his cheek, gently guiding his gaze away from the island.
“Julian, that doesn’t mean that you’re a bad person.”
“But what if I…” He hangs his head “What if I was?”
“If you were, then the person you are now more than makes up for that.” You whisper. “And I promise, no matter what you find on this island, nothing is going to change that.”
He smiles weakly, the fatigue in his eye seems to have been replaced with soft adoration.
“I…” He’s about to protest but his voice disappears behind a sigh. “Thank you. That, that means more than you know.” He swipes his thumb across your cheekbone.
“You are a good man. No matter what happens, I want you to promise me you will remember that.”
He looks out distantly across the horizon. There’s just no keeping his gaze from lingering on that island.
“I promise.” He whispers.
Fame and Fortune palettes are sister palettes with very similar packaging designs of a carnival that starts on one and finishes on the other. Which is a great idea since these go hand in hand together. Fame for those who prefer the cool tones and fortune for those who love to live on the warm side of things. Each palette contains 16 shades with 1.0 g or 0.035 oz of product per pan and cost $22 per palette. There is a perfect mix of matte, metallic, and satin shadows in each palette as well.
I have reviewed many ColourPop eyeshadow palettes in the past as I love their shadows. They are typically highly pigmented, apply evenly and feel ultra velvety or silky. Plus they are long wearing and easy to blend. If I could only choose one brand to get eyeshadow palettes from for the rest of time, I would have to go with ColourPop unless something drastically changes.
Final Thoughts
Overall, these palettes perform on par with all of their others and I love it. I do wish they would put mirrors into their palettes so you could use it on the go rather than having to bring one along. Fame is more of a neutral to cool tone palette as compared to a completely cool tone palette, which I liked but I know those into cool tones would love more cool tone colors with perhaps a few pops of colors like fortune did. Like blue or green tones rather than just taupe, plum, lilac, and biege. However, having those tones don’t really play into the scheme so I get why they didn’t include them.
I had a fun idea since these palettes do have the same layout and number of shadows, that instead of doing one look per palette or mixing the two together that I would use the same shadow position from each palette on opposite eyes with the same placement to create a look… I’m not really sure how to describe that any better, if you would like to see what I mean check out my YouTube video on this!
