This is the Christmas card for @lycorogue ! ^_^ She asked for a wholesome Honda Family Christmas, so I went with Katsuya and Kyoko reading little Tohru The Night Before Christmas! ^_^ I imagine that Tohru and Kyoko did all those construction paper crafts during the day while Katsuya was at work to surprise him with a festively decorated apartment. ^_^

To me, there is one major difference between Kyoko and Katsuya and Uotani and Kureno. Kyoko was much younger than Uotani when she met Katsuya, and he knew of her age but still fell for her. Kureno shows interest without knowing of Uotani's age and when they finally got together, Uotani was of age (18 in the UK). When Kyoko and Katsuya got together, Kyoko was still in middle school.

Kyoko was 15 and he was in his early 20's (i would say around 23 (from the jobs we see him doing and his family I reckon he is collage educated). Uotani was 18 (she had left high school when they got together) and Kureno was 27.

Though this is still a large age gap, even more so than Kyoko and Katsuya, the way they met, and the circumstances of their relationship was very different and additionally the age when their relationships began where both young but one way young to the point of being illegal.

I have to point out that I am from England. Our age of consent is 16 and the point of which people are not considered minors is 18. In Japan the age of consent is 13 and people marring young and being in relationships with people older/younger is much more normalized. Still, to almost all perspectives and especially those of us in the west, both relationships are off and could be considered wrong, but Katsuya was probobly taking advantage of Kyoko.

I'm going to say that he clearly did care for Kyoko but no matter which way you slice it, he was almost certainly taking advantage of her. Though Kyoko still fell for him, I believe he would have still gotten together with Kyoko no matter how she felt; he just seems to be that type of person to me.

Uotani knew Kureno was older, but he didn't have a clue and even if he had the suspicion there was no way to prove it until they met again. And when they got together both where of age and technically nothing was illegal.

hm. i finished the movie. not sure how i feel abt it?

i'm not a big fan of the way katsuya essentially groomed kyoko, a girl barely out of middle school.

his personality was... practically non-existent. it's like he was just made as a filler character, with no thought given into what he liked or his life outside of kyoko.

makes me a bit uncomfortable? especially considering how kyoko dealt with his death. it was esp clear how attached she was to him with how she almost un-alived herself and processed his death. saying "why didn't the world end with katsuya when he died" and "no one needs me."

i didn't really like how much content from the anime was put into the movie, either. it was 30 minutes of just recap. it was cute and nice as a refresher, but did they need to fill 1/3 of the movie with it? although, maybe it's a bit redundant considering i just finished bingeing the entire anime beforehand. but still. 10-15 minutes fine, but 30?

my favorite part of the movie was probably the bit with kyo and tohru at the end. GOODNESS, kyo grew up nice though. just small changes, like his hair and biceps, but it still made me stim. it was adorable to see his and tohru's dynamic. i wish we got a small glimpse of the others' lives, but i'm content with this.

IN ANY CASE. my fruba binge is finally over. perhaps i'll rewatch free next...
