Favourite anime genre? :)
7. Favourite anime genre:
It’s a bit of a boring answer 😅 but I am a sucker for action Shonen & Seinen anime, especially if it involves cool powers and fight scenes; stuff like My Hero Academia, Fullmetal Alchemist, Demon Slayer and the like
Especially if there’s a lean towards horror and some darker aspects, such as in Death Note or The Promised Neverland
I mean, I am very much the target demographic for that genre, but even so, show me a determined and/or traumatised boy who wants to save the world with the power of friendship (and possibly the power of having powers) and I am in
Tumblr media
Thanks for the ask! 😸

I'm a fan of Code Geass so I'm glad to find sites like these. It makes me think the Code Geass fanbase is still going strong. How does it feel for you about the Code Geass movies remaking the series with some changes? Are you disappointed about them or just think it's alright.
The answer to this came out way, way longer than I expected. Lots of rambling below! I've also been facing a technical issue with Asks, so I'm sorry for the late reply.
I like to think that Code Geass is good enough an anime to garner interest even now. Fans do exist even if activity is not that consistent (myself very much included.) The fanbase does have some fluctuating activity, and I see lots and lots of wonderful fanart nowadays!
I’ve yet to find an anime I love more than Code Geass. Although I watched it very recently, probably months before said alternate timeline movies were released. I didn’t quite understand what they were getting at with the whole ‘season 3′ thing.
I’m going to start by saying, quality of both anime and movie notwithstanding, it was a very well-thought decision to make an alternate timeline. Don’t want to accept the end of canon? Movies are for you! Not a fan of the movies? Stick with the anime! The audience is given a choice.
But the statement stands regardless of whether or not the movies are good. Now, if we actually consider the production of the movies, my opinion very much changes.
So, do I like the new movies? Above all, I am a fan of Re;surrection?
The answer is No.
Now, why is that?
I successfully passed every stage leading to Re;surrection with no contempt:
- Oh, they’re continuing the series? It’s nice to see more from my favourite anime!
- They’re recapping the anime? Makes sense if they want old fans to return to the series with ease.
- The movies are... different from the anime? Following a different canon seems... unusual. I feel like they suddenly backtracked because they thought of something ‘better’ but I’ll give it some time before I judge.
- The movies have cut some major events that heavily affected Lelouch’s character development (i.e, going against Mao, losing Shirley)? Alternate timeline isn’t looking very nice here...
- And the ‘season 3′ which we have been promised of for a long time, will actually follow the canon set by the movies? Well... I’ll just see how Re;surrection is.
And then we arrive to the movie itself...
I need to reiterate that it was a very good decision to have a dual canon, and I do acknowledge all the effort that was put into the movie and the attention it gained worldwide.
However...
My own opinion is that Re;surrection is not a good movie.
Well, I hope no one comes after my blood. But that’s really how I see it.
Re;surrection by and in itself? Great. Wonderful animation and voice acting. An adequately interesting storyline.
Re;surrection, compared to the anime? Bad.
First thing to address is that events have nothing to do with this. One timeline having an event--Lelouch 'staying alive' or any other thing-- that the other one doesn’t is not integral to my opinion. My thoughts are only based on story- and character-writing, character development, depth of plot, etc.
So you see where I’m going with this?
If the character development cut by the recap movies wasn’t enough, what I saw of Re;surrection was enough to show me how terribly ‘out of character’ everyone was. Cornelia, who despised Zero, teamed up with him with no second thought. Suzaku, who loathed Lelouch and made his vendetta his top priority, hit him with the “yeah no it’s nicer to have you around :).” Lelouch himself felt out of character, and most things his character stood for were easily betrayed in the movie, i.e “the only ones who should kill are those prepared to be killed”, leaving Nunnally at the end, etc.
It felt like the producers just said, “bring Lelouch back to life, that’s what everyone will care about, and we can just do random things with the other characters.” (I know that’s not the case, but this is how I see it.) The characters just feel so different than they did in the anime, like the existed solely for the plot.
The writing is also very underwhelming (again, compared to the anime.) The things that happened at C’s World felt so rash and had minimal explanations. Even the villains didn’t have the character-depth the anime characters had. Mao, for instance, seems like a much deeper character than any of the new ones introduced in the movie. It’s like, as with the rest of the cast, the villains were only there to satisfy the plot. Combined with the pacing that was all over the place, the writing feels like the aforementioned “bring Lelouch back and that’s all we need.”
And, finally, the movie as a whole just lacks the intricacy the anime had. Lelouch’s brilliant plans felt really watered-down, nothing like himself. The world-building was rather shallow. Everything from the conflict to the climax felt poorly put-together, with loose explanations just barely tying it up.
And, well, that’s only my opinion. Zero contempt (pun not intended) against people who love Re;surrection, and mega shoutout to all the wonderful fanart and fanfiction creators. Now those things I actually enjoy.

For the anime ask: 6, 9, 14, 25
Thank you for the ask, friend!! (from this post) There might be some spoilers ahead, but that kind of comes with the territory for questions like these. Beware!
6. popular anime you didn’t like
Are you trying to get me killed, friend. Do you want to see the Meags dead in the ditch. (I jest. Only god can kill me, and only when I'm ready.)
Alright, I have to admit: I don't actually tend to really know what's popular. Sometimes I know, sometimes I'm like 'oh this is so good I bet everyone watches it' and no one else I know has heard of it, or sometimes everyone is like 'oh this show is so popular!!!' and I'm over here like 'whomst?'. Comes from not being allowed a internet or personal ipods/computers when I was younger, and our TV channels were limited. So, bear that in mind while I list my answers and my reasons.
Sword Art Online: Hate. Hate hate hate. Loathe. Kirito? More like Kiri-NO. He's so...bland. And annoying. And I just despise him. Couldn't watch the full thing. Don't like. Don't like at ALL.
Yugioh: I used to watch episodes here and there on 4KidsTV. I didn't like it. I did not like the art style and character designs and I didn't get what the big deal was about them battling with cards. And even now that I'm older, I could probably go and rewatch it, but I don't really want to. Just. No desire.
Kuroko's Basketball: Let me just first start by clarifying. I was actually interested in this anime at the start. But then they started making the sports actions out to be super-powers...and I didn't know at the time that Sports Anime is just Like That. So then I became more neutral about it. And then. It dragged. It dragged so much. Like, the plot got so slowed and I got so bored I ended up not finishing it. So, there were parts I did enjoy, and I really liked a lot of the characters, but I can't say I liked this anime overall.
Chobits: Idk. It's cute and all, but also I just didn't enjoy the main dude. I found him annoying. Also stopped watching this one part way through. That's just something I do. If I find it does not Spark Joy, I stop watching the show. Because I don't like to waste my time on shows I don't like.
9. favorite anime child
This is a toss-up between Somali from Somali and the Forest Spirit and Anya from SpyxFamily.
Anya is cute and funny. She's so relatable in a humourous way, and she really does try her best. She fails a lot, but then sometimes her failures inadvertently save the day. Plus, she has some of The Greatest facial expressions.
Somali is an innocent human child discovered by a Golem in a forest; in a time and place where humans are nearly extinct and are hunted down by Beasts and magical being. The Golem is trying to get Somali back to her own kind. Somali is a sweetheart. She does her best to follow the Golem's direction and she genuinely cares about him, and she calls him papa. Similar to Anya, she is just trying Her Best. In contrast to Anya, she is much more quiet and timid.
Honestly, I can't choose. Both girls are very sweet.
14. saddest anime you have ever watched
Ok, Honestly, I've probably watched a lot of anime with sad things, and bittersweet endings...it's hard to really choose One. But, that being said, I do have one that comes to mind. Take it with a grain of salt, though, because this is my opinion, and my opinion is subject to change at any point and time lol.
Corpse Party.
Yes, I know it's based on a video game. Yes, I know it's in the horror genre. I don't care, it is still sad. It is sad more than anything. Why is it sad? I don't know where to start. I'm not going to recount all the deaths, onscreen or offscreen, because that would take too long. The situation itself is bleak; students trapped in a ghostly school with all sorts of spirits after them to hurt them and rip them apart? Maybe it's sad because they're children? They're supposed to represent hope and light and the future, and they get stuck in this school and (literally) torn to shreds. Also. The littlest one dies. Which, is like, that is a Big Thing, ok. LIke, even in regular horror movies; there was a time where You Did Not kill off the children (yes, I know there are plenty of child deaths in horror now, but it is still one of the more disturbing aspects of those movies). Kids end up being the unlikely heroes. The ones who persevere and survive despite their innocence and trust in others, or maybe even *because* of it. (or they end up being the demons, but that's not relevant here).
So when that little girl gets tortured and murdered, After putting her trust in an older boy who said he would help her...it brings a huge wave of sadness. She was so helpless. She just wanted to find her big brother. She went from hopeful and trusting to Terrified, and then dead. (not to mention the ghost possessing the place to begin with is Also A Child)
25. anime you would recommend to someone who hates anime
I don't really know if I have one specific anime for people who hate anime. I don't think there's a catch-all that everyone would enjoy. And I don't really like pushing things on other people if they've indicated they don't like it.
If I were to recommend one, it would entirely depend on the person. If they're nice to me about it and they indicate they want to try anime, I would talk with them and find out their interests before recommending. Someone who loves romance might not wanna sit through One Punch Man, you know? So I'd take the time to figure out some actual suggestions that they might genuinely enjoy.
But.
If they're mean to me. Or talk down to me.
I'm gonna recommend they watch Boku no Pico with their Grandmother. 😀

anime that’s overrated
anime that’s underrated
Overrated: Death Note. I like it, but overall I think most of the characters are annoying, it loses a lot of intrigue when [insert spoilers here] dies, and generally I just don't really get the hype. I haven't seen it since I was 17, but I also think 17 is the best age to watch/read it 😆
Underrated: Baccano for days, though I'm not sure if it's underrated so much as just less popular. Alternatively Digimon 02, which is definitely given short shrift by the fandom.
Thanks for the ask! 🥰

Anime that’s underrated?
KINO'S JOURNEY (or Kino no Tabi)! The 2003 version, not the most recent one.
It's 13 episodes plus an OVA and 2 movies and I still feel like it's so underrated given that no one talks about it or has even watched it. It's my favourite anime and I only know 1 or 2 people that actually watched it.
Tumblr media
It looks old, but I find the style and sepia tones charming. It kind of reminds me of the simplicity of Professor Layton.
The anime is about a traveller named Kino and a talking motorcycle called Hermes (after the god of travellers). They explore the fantastical world they live in and Kino has the rule to not spend more than 3 days in one "country" given that she doesn't want to feel attached. It is an episodic anime given that each ep or 2 eps is a separate story about each place and the plots are meant for phylosophical discussions. It's a very quiet, atmospheric show. I would recommend it especially for Mushishi fans.
Tumblr media
For movies I feel like Millenium Actress is criminally underrated and it's so unique and means so much to me that I keept thinking it might be my favourite Satoshi Kon work.
Thank you for the ask :D

14 and 30 for anime asks
14. Anime that’s over-rated, and 30. Popular anime you didn’t like — hmm, two pretty similar qs 🤔
Well 30 for me has got to be Steins;Gate, I have that one a go and really couldn’t get into it. The opening scenes really pulled me in at first but then it kinda lost its momentum and I lost interest :/ shame as I had expected to like that one
14, one that’s over-rated… I mean im tempted to say steins gate again 😅 but for the sake of the sake I’ll pick a different one…
Maybe Attack On Titan tbh, I mean I was there for the hype when season one came out and I enjoyed that one, but it took so long for there to even be a season 2, then when it did come out idk, felt like something was missing, it sorta lost the je nais se quoi that the first season had
Oh, or actually Sword Art Online, which sorta threw away its core selling point halfway through the first season 😂
Tumblr media
So yeah, either one of those two I guess
Thanks for the ask!! 😸

What is a good anime to watch?
Oh that depends on what you want to see...
See I mainly watch fighting anime so I have very few other suggestions... But
Some of my favorites are:
Yu Yu Hakusho
Bleach
Blood+ (not the fuckin bullshit remake c+ or whatever the original)
Zatch Bell
Sword art online
Inuyasha
Soul Eater
Sailor Moon
Some random ones:
From what I saw Blue exorcist is good
Initial D (I think that's it, it's a racing one)
I know others but those are just off the top of my head. (I didn't list Yu-Gi-Oh, or Pokemon but know those are in my favorites list)
Hopefully that helped some!!

[image id: a four-page comic. it is titled "immortality” after the poem by clare harner (more popularly known as “do not stand at my grave and weep”). the first page shows paleontologists digging up fossils at a dig. it reads, “do not stand at my grave and weep. i am not there. i do not sleep.” page two features several prehistoric creatures living in the wild. not featured but notable, each have modern descendants: horses, cetaceans, horsetail plants, and crocodilians. it reads, “i am a thousand winds that blow. i am the diamond glints on snow. i am the sunlight on ripened grain. i am the gentle autumn rain.” the third page shows archaeopteryx in the treetops and the skies, then a modern museum-goer reading the placard on a fossil display. it reads, “when you awaken in the morning’s hush, i am the swift uplifting rush, of quiet birds in circled flight. i am the soft stars that shine at night. do not stand at my grave and cry.” the fourth page shows a chicken in a field. it reads, “i am not there. i did not die” / end id]
a comic i made in about 15 hours for my school’s comic anthology. the theme was “evolution”
