so a game i’ve been interested in got wider early access release today. The handful of negative reviews - all with less than a half hour of gameplay - are things about the enemies being too strong, or too many of them, and hhow they died and lost their stuff right by an enemy spawn location so can’t get their stuff back, or how the starter tier tools are bad.
Most of them are like... way more telling of the player than the game. They ran into dangerous areas without being ready for it, they don’t understand tiered progression in survival games, they built their base where a lot of enemies spawn, but are constantly shocked that the enemies destroy their base.
It’s funny, but i wonder what it does for the game’s early attention when you get folks who are just, clearly, not a good fit, not interested in the same kind of game, being the early voices.
#there are issues but they are all this is literally released today into ea and small - style issues#like yeah combat could flow better and movement and transitions could be smoother#but those are - imo - polish elements not vital gameplay#the sort of thng you can be working on during this period of open early access#id personally like more granular control over rates like resource drops and health regen#like you see in similar games#but those similar games didn't have them during ea so i don't expect it hehre#and this game Does hhave something very good going for it#a passive mode where nothing attacks you unless you start shit#im not using it cause being ambushhed in te pitch black is scary and fun#but its great that it exists#but you can tell its going to be another genuinely just fun and kinda silly game like thihs#which the worst type of gamer douche bros are going to try and make a go at#(Ark Rust 7DtD etc)#and i really hope they move on and leave it be#cause they made playing Ark miserable

ben is mentally and physically 22, but he can be quite emotionally immature at times. when he died he never stopped growing and maturing, his soul was just stuck in limbo. think like the worst waiting room ever.
he's surprisingly tall, standing at about 5'9. he's lanky but not bone thin. could easily get pretty far in a fight without his ghost powers.
the link costume only appears when he’s in his ghost form. so for example, when he’s messing with someone on their computer he’ll appear as the canon BEN we’re most familiar with. when he’s just chilling in his physical body, he mostly wears beat up hoodies and sweatpants.
contrary to popular belief, ben's not the hardcore gamer everyone thinks he is. sure, he'll play some overwatch or whatever when he's bored but he honestly just prefers to watch tv and browse the internet. understandably REFUSES to play any zelda games. if you were trapped in a video game for decades would you ever wanna touch it again? exactly.
ben loves to draw little comics and troll (see: horrifically traumatize) people online. god forbid you get into twitter beef with this man because he will crawl through your monitor at 3am and leave you with a crippling fear of technology. dude thinks it's absolutely hilarious. a true knee slapper.
lowkey has a sugar addiction. will slam down 4 cans of pepsi in one sitting. he's very lucky that he's basically a ghost because the kidney stones would be plentiful.
ROMANTIC

after awhile of you guys dating he LOVES the idea of y’all showering together. he has a fear of water and while showers aren’t too much of a trigger, your presence helps ease his anxiety.

now let’s talk about his problems because just like the other creeps he is ANGSTY.
he’s probably the most emotionally stable and healthiest of the group but he definitely still has his toxic traits, after all this man is a ghost that mentally tortures and kills his victims through manipulation.
ben would never ever get physical with his partner no matter how enraged he is but he absolutely is the type to do some mental damage when he gets carried away. ben drowned? more like ben gaslighted.
the type to say some shit that would keep you up for years and then kiss you the next morning like the argument never happened. he finds it easier to ignore problems than to actively talk and fix them. you’re gonna have to teach him some important communication skills or else you’ll grow to resent him after all the bottled up rage.
a bit too brutally honest and blunt for his own good so if you have thin skin the relationship would fall apart pretty quickly. he wants someone who can drag him twice as hard as he dragged you. bonus points if your insults are consistently funny as hell.
please watch anime with him and discuss it. he would propose on the spot, especially if you play with his hair.
pro player tip: if you want him to clean his disgusting room, help him and make it fun! he just needs a little push and motivation at times. and being around you makes him want to get his shit together.
big fan of late night make-out sessions. i’m talking like 45 minutes straight of just slobbering on each other’s faces with tongues down throats. if you don’t want his hands running over every inch of your body then you’ll probably have to chain him to the wall.

the game begins introducing itself as a regular otome school life sim (my condolences to the fans who fell for william first sight only to find out hes not an actual love interest trust me i see u i feel u) but then WHAM BAM!! just when u thougut ur girl best friend was lookin kinda cute she gets X_x in this summon circle and you jump in to save her only to find out youre now in a royal cage surrounded by people that needa sacrifice you to save themselves from their own doom. oh and youre not in your own world anumore good luck have fun
so now here goes the different plots and paths with the love interests. the way i playrd it was as they introduced it, which was ayn aklaid lars claerence. no cael route yet which rips me apart every night. the love interests seem to have consistent values throughout most universes despite all of their diferet upbringings which i find pretty cool considering schoollife and royaltylife are two completely drastic diferent things, and also i nejoy how mc is written with more character and an amazing design to match the rest of the beautifully drawn cast
on that topic the art is GORGEOUS. i have never seen such beautiful detailed art in a game before and i assure you it will not disappoijnt. the graphics and smoothness of the game are especially a great touch. most reddit aita stories are not real. the more outlandish they are the less likely that are to be real. if they have a throwaway account it's probably not real.
you gotta understand 1) nothing is true on the internet except for the down with cis bus and 2) their ecosystem had been fundamentally changed by tumblrinas flooding boards with /r/ambien. mind you we must remember fabrication of ridiculous stories is a time honored tradition. u think someone would go on the internet and tell lies?
well yes! nowadays you can't say you were sold into slavery by one direction for clout. we're all too old for that now it aint gonna work. but reddit, reddit is exotic in all the worst ways. it's a foreign country with foreign customs. the public opinion of the redditor is not a positive one, and there is an abundance stereotypes about the typical redditor.
what is a redditor? well most people have a certain image of that type of user. white. male. gamer. not particularly pleasant to be aground poor hygiene. might be misogynistic.
now i wont deny that this is probably a demographic that exists in a significant enough sample that one might feel justified in holding these stereotypes. but you might also realized these traits are almost like stock characters in aita stories by accounts that are created just for that post. theres often a cartoonishly cruel lack of both empathy and self awareness to these characters that almost seems like they were designed to make you hate them.

I think motr is definitely a new type of game that failbetter hasn't really made before, so I'm not exactly surprised, but I do think it could have gone a lot, lot worse.
sure, sure. i mean, i dont think ive said anywhere that its the worst game ever, or that it doesnt have redeeming qualities. hell, it's not even my least favorite dating sim ive ever played (that dubious honor goes to Boyfriend Dungeon lol)
but... well, nobody forced them to make this game. it was their idea. so if they werent comfortable making a visual novel... i mean, they could have done something else that they were more prepared to deliver on. and i gave them enough money to buy a used car, so im not really inclined to give them an A for effort!
also, i havent said this elsewhere, so I'll say it here: while i certainly dont think this was intentional on the part of FBG, trying to make a dating sim thats Not Like The Other Dating Sims always strikes me as kind of misogynistic! i remember GamerGate, and i remember how much backlash there was to games that "weren't games", specifically because of their proximity to women. Text adventures and walking sims are sister genres to the visual novel. And visual novels have long been scorned and maligned by mainstream "gamers", either as being for (assumed Japanese) pervert men, or for (sad, pathetic, not real gamers) women. so for the game to be bad particularly BECAUSE of how it skimps on all the stuff that would be seen as "for girls" is particularly galling to me, especially as a long time fan of the genre (and a former girl myself)
#again i dont think fbg were like 'well we cant have too many FEELINGS in this game bc those are for girls and therefor bad'#but i DO think a lot of the audience they were trying to court DOES think like that#i saw a lot of people in the discord laughing about the concept of Sucker for Love#and it coming up as like. a related work to motr. or something they might be interested in#when like. its a genuinely really fun dating sim!!! it's good!!!!#i wish motr had MORE in common with it!!!!#but it seems like they have heard a lot of people using 'dating sim' as both set up and punchline#and for some reason decided to cater to THAT audience. and not. yknow. me.

from what I heard I expected a shitshow but it really wasn’t that bad lmao maybe I’m just a show apologist but. idk i enjoyed it overall not the worst episode by any means. maybe with less questionable choices than ep 9 I haven’t thought about it that long um anyway. miscellaneous thoughts (out of order im just writing down what comes to mind)
again from what I’d heard I was worried about what they’d do with rhaenyra like. people said she would be all like “uwu no fighting lets make peace I surrender” and that’s. not what happened lol. I think her being more cautious makes sense in the show esp since they also made alicent less unhinged (which I do have some problems with but. whatever -_-)
that asoiaf title drop was kinda cringe tho sorry it felt so out of place. also I still dont know if I like the whole prophecy thing but it works way better when its used as a motivation to try to not explode everything than a ‘oopsie silly misunderstanding it’s war time’ plot device lol

super slime slimeinator
sorry, super slime simulator. (literally my attitude for the whole game lmao)
yeah, it's a slime game.
it has "slime touching" graphics.
it makes disgusting "slime" noises.
i've terrorized my friends with it.
i love this game, no matter how janky-2004-DS game it is.
the game opens with the worst sound to ever exist,
followed by teaching u how to make a slime, which is pretty simple. u just kinda... make a slime.
...like u choose what type u want to make (u start out with a couple of types, ex. "classic" slime which i personally believe is a government fallacy but u do u) and then u circle ur finger around a dish to make it. then, u choose a colour and mix it in. then u choose 1 or 2 types of decorations and their colours (if they have that option. some don't- lookin at you, "jelly cubes")
some exciting exhilarating gameplay (ignore the ads at the bottom idk why they're there they aint even personalized smh):
then u finish, name it an play with it if you're a psychopath. i prefer the elite route of making slimes and never fuckin touching them bc they're nasty as hell.
there's also a chest thing which is ridiculously easy to unlock and will give you new slime... things:
and for some reason, this game seemingly with no story to it, has SIDE QUESTS. Where we meet, for the second time since the tutorial, the "mascot" for this game: Lulu.
She is just a fuckin person. She's a human mascot who somehow got her little godfearing name on things like "lulu's slime quest" and other equally icky things like that. She also somehow has her own collection of slimes, with ones worse than anything my pathetic little hands could even fathom making.
Note: I have no idea who Noggi is.
and she forces you to make her slimes for her. exactly the way she wants it. or you lose.
there's also some weird games like Slime My Image where u glunk up one of ur photos (I glunked up miku teehee):

anyway, if u enjoy that, they made a fuckton of disgusting slimes that are strangely reminiscent of something i once knew and desperately want to forget all there for u to......... play with.
Either way, if ur the type of gamer who needs regular validation, there's a series of incredibly rigorous daily quests to complete, which will truly test ur grit and determination as a Super Slime Simulator Pro Gamer™
The quests will demand various things, but most prominently, the grindworthy adventures of:
opening the game (im shakin in my boots)
making a slime (consider my timbers positively shivered upon)
playing with said slime (ew)
playing a single level of Lulu's Slime Quest (crying shaking screaming)
and other such harrowing tasks.
Now that I've briefed u on the game, let's get into some fun little details!

i wanted to listen to music while playing this game but you can't turn the sfx off
there are some "fun and interesting" slime types that nobody's ever made before and nobody ever wants to make! I won't spoil them for u, but u definitely will spoil!
the colour names are fun, flirty and sometimes Pukeworthy! (there's a colour called carmine! how wonderfully fucking disgusting!)
there's one colour that i'm not so sure about!
Also, if you want to SHARE a slime with someone, you can "gift" it to them (gee, thanks) and they recive a fun little gift box all customized by you. mery cihsmast.

Members (age order):
Kuhn (leader/rapper) - gives off dad energy. Has a very attractive singing voice!! Listen to some CoolFM karaoke to hear him sing!
Jinhoo (leader/vocal) - has pretty lips! Takes on team mom position. TOP media put him on hiatus on April 7, 2020 and then sent him to the armed forces, he has not been seen or mentioned since. TOP media will not tell us where he is. I miss him.
UPDATE: Jinhoo signs of life. He has a personal Instagram.
Kogyeol/Ian (vocal) - gives off church crush/princely vibes. Has an interior design business for some reason??
Jinhyuk (high-tone rapper) - furry. weeb. gamer. Likes skinship a lot. He's doing solo stuff ever since px101...it's okay. He's not a very good vocalist 😭 Top Media put him back in the group NOW.
Bitto (low-tone rapper/main dancer) - cute. He seems quiet in interviews but he can be VERY chaotic. The master of girl group choreo + ultimate fanboy.
Wooseok (vocal/visual) - just a guy. He is kind of a quiet troublemaker type, and has a devilish streak. He has been doing solo stuff since px101. I like his solo stuff. But Top Media PLEASE PUT HIM BACK.
Sunyoul (vocal) - he has a WIDE vocal range. Well known for performing on masked singer and having everyone think he was a girl. Has done boy/girl duets by himself. Appears sweet but...he will not hesitate if you annoy him. Other mom figure.
Gyujin (lead dancer/vocal) - eyebrows!! He is babygirl and poses as such in pictures...very silly guy. They never give him lines and always try to cover him up in big coats. :(
Hwanhee (vocal) - LOUD. I CANNOT EMPHASIZE HOW LOUD HE IS. Often compared to Baekhyun in terms of looks and voice. Whiney and loveable. In Boys Planet rn
Xiao/Dongyeol (lead dancer/vocal) - #1 taemint. Hanse from VICTON's bestie. Mischevious and attached to hwanhee. In Boys Planet rn.

ok so i was at the worst Its SO Over in a good while, legitimately thinking, sorry gamers i dont think im making it, im talking like. running around at night like a madman in rain, blasting songs from 2016, slowing down to smoke and running back type of feeling. REAL its so over.
so i come back, tearing up, as unsettled as one can get, im calling my friend to say i love you and i just wanted to hear your voice. just so you know. anyway she didnt pick up (god bless shes prolly sleeping no bitterness queen get that sleep) and i was gonna text her something, i was sitting at the balcony, on my phone.
then, the only other person in there, a girl ive spoken once to because she asked for my help in the kitchen, comes, sits across me and tells me "i need to talk to you" so im immediately in Help The Girl mode. she starts telling me shes thinking of leaving the dorms, tells me about the fight she had w her roommates, at first i though she had something Me specific to say but when i questioned she said "i need some guidance and i thought i could talk to you" so probably because im a helpful person -a butch lesbian- and she sensed it. anyway she talks about it all, i give my opinions, she asks for advice, i give advice, she even asked at one point what i thought of her behavior in the fight she had with her roommates, i answered, said she loved the way i speak clearly and purposefully, said she was thankful, somewhere in there we started talking abt school and she asked me if i know this one guy from my major, id probably know him, she didnt want to offend me or anything, veeery reluctantly adding, "hes like a little bit gay" i laughed.
so here i am, having helped a stranger get some worries off her chest at night when she had no one to go to, just like me. holy shit. my pessimistic depressive ass has been taught a lesson of hope and human connection. just like that. all it takes is someone sitting across you and speaking to you.
