Strikes are a great opportunity to consciously appreciate what other people do for you without u noticing! Which is 1. Good for our common wellbeing (builds solidarity). 2. Good for your personal wellbeing (gratitude, hope, and connection are better headmates than despair, alienation, and loneliness). 3. Good for wellbeing of the strike and the union (directs the anger about the strike where they should be, aimed the people who are mistreating workers)
Like @ my UK folllowers. The rail strike is super fucking annoying right? You can't get where you need to go! Your life is more difficult right now. The flip side of that is these rail workers have been making your life quietly, subtly easier for years and years and years!
Capitalism loves to obscure these relationships - and it's true that they're mostly impersonal relationships. You're not FRIENDS with everyone who grows your food or makes your clothes or drives your trains or cleans your city.
You will never meet most of the people whose daily work supports your life - or most of the people who benefit from your work! But they're real. We're real. And we're really helping each other. That's a real connection. They're people you owe a lot to.
And these people who make your life better every day are suffering for it! They haven't been treated fairly or right.
It's easy to just get annoyed at the inconvenience of strike action, and God knows there are powerful forces urging that annoyance. But this is how we can regain some of our lost humanity, in this system of violence that crushes us all. This is what solidarity is. These people have been helping you. This is time to learn, connect, support. Help them back.

I mean, idk, go ahead and imagine a world without art. It doesn't just mean no museums. No tv shows or movies (scripts are writing, and film in general is an artform, too), no comics (illustrations and writing), no music (composing, writing if lyrics are present), no fun romance novels or silly adventure stories, no plays and musicals, no video games (animation and writing). All of your entertainment is made by artists. Not even going into the fact that it's self-expression's core, but just go for the very basics right now. Imagine a world where you have nothing to use as a way to destress, enjoy yourself, or even just fill the quiet moments. Idk about you all, but I feel like it'd be pretty dystopic.

already thinking "and by 'religious' really i mean 'christian'" re: how the term "religion" is not really useful when it's largely like, from a christian perspective, what is considered "equivalent" of christianity, see: perhaps a "rival"/obstacle to some person or group being considered christian....and even if not thinking about converting anyone, resulting in some at best misinterpretation / misrepresentation based on framing it through/as [element of christianity] and limiting of any more accurate language
like how tumblr recommends me a post about someone thinking about "religion" in general and concluding that it's Weird and perhaps Wrong for anyone who is a "true believer" in their religion(tm) to Not be proselytizing / trying to Convert everyone. like yeah why isn't everyone being an evangelical christian, they ought to be, benevolently informing all those around them that they're going to hell, otherwise. don't see any problem with this conclusion, or that someone's getting antisemitic in the notes already in agreement, or that That's Not How This Works and you don't just know how All "Religion" works based on considering it to be an alternate version of christianity (which in itself doesn't All work like that either)

not really a fan of when so much media positions all or almost all women as Bastions of Logic and Maturity that reject silly childish things like nerdery and playing pretend in favor of Being An Adult

1) i and plenty of the people i hang out with are women who would love to pretend to be dinosaurs or sci fi adventurers at the drop of a hat and
2) maybe, writers, your blind spot is that you've been treating the women who would've hung out with you as One-Dimensional Potential Girlfriends instead of friends and fellow nerds this entire time and, despite how slick you think you're being, we can absolutely tell
also being an adult and having fun are not mutually exclusive. i'm a researcher who plays ttrpgs and goes to improv meetings on the weekends. do u know how many skilled tradespeople/academics/parents/leaders go larping or write fanfiction or attend furrycon or fill their living spaces with balloons in their free time? (a TON.) people need to stop limiting the scope of what they think they can do in their lives

I wish this was a parody. He actually said that. He said presidents have absolute immunity and the only method to hold a president accountable for an "official act" is via a guilty verdict in an impeachment trial.
And it's even worse than "congress being cool with it". Congress can be almost entirely against it and it'll still pass (according to Trump's logic) because to achieve a guilty verdict in an impeachment trial requires a 2/3 majority vote in the senate.
So really it only takes a little over a third of the senate, which is 34 senators, to be cool with it, in order to make presidentially ordered assassination of political rivals legal (again, according to Trump).
And even worse. These 34 senators could be representing as few as 17 states and as few as 24 million people, or only 7.5% of the country.
The Court of Appeals rejected this interpretation outright, but the fact that Trump chose to present this argument and continues to spew it in his rallies is a major concern.
I know I'm preaching to the choir talking about it on Tumblr, but Trump wants to be a dictator. And the Republican Party are supporting him in this effort.
Abolish the Republican Party. They're not a legitimate political party anymore. They're a hostile fascist entity trying to overthrow America's democracy and they need to be dealt with accordingly.

Hi again! I wanted to follow up on my post from yesterday. I’ve been mostly offline since then, and I feel much better now, especially after seeing the thoughtful responses y’all left. Where did you all even come from!? I don’t think I’ve ever posted this account anywhere, haha. But thank you so much. I’m horrendous at taking a damn compliment but I read all the replies and reblogs and I’m just incredibly humbled. You all brought up my mood a lot and highkey made me feel sane again. I’ve been so confused at why everyone in the WEBTOON comments seems to be so mad all the time, it kind of does my head in if I’m being honest.
But please don’t worry about me or Flynn. Or about Nevermore! We’d never change the story to fit what we think the commenters want us to do, for a lot of reasons. The most important of which is. If we had to do that, I think we’d rather just stop making it. What they seem to want is a story we’re not really interested in telling.
Wholesome wlw is a wildly important thing to be able to find if you’re looking for it. That really cannot be overstated. Until very recently, queer characters have been subjected by popular media to a disproportionate amount of anguish and violence. So the concept of seeing two women just, living a safe and fulfilling life together? I get why people want to see that so badly. And there’s so much beautifully written aspirational content for queer audiences out there now, and I’m pleased to death over it. But the thing is, it’s just not what we’re making.
Nevermore was always intended to be a dark gothicky romance with horror elements. Like Wuthering Heights, or Phantom of the Opera. Because those were the stories that always inspired us when we were young. Bloodsoaked stories of melodrama, intrigue, grief, and passion. Those stories would captivate me and get me asking all kinds of questions. Why can’t the Phantom be a beautiful woman? Why does Christine have the agency of a desk lamp? Why can’t sapphics have something cool like this?
So we decided to make it. Nevermore is not a wholesome romance. It doesn’t try to be. The point was never to explore sapphics having a healthy and (heavy air quotes here) “normal” relationship, like heterosexual couples get to have in real life. We already have that, together, Flynn and I. We live it, everyday. In Nevermore, what we wanted most was to explore a sweeping sapphic romance full of danger, like heterosexual couples get to have in fiction. That’s why we love those kinds of stories so much, because of how divorced they are from the mundanity of real life. They’re fantasies.
I know that I'm preaching to the choir, aha.
But my point is: if you go to a hardware store to order a cake, you’re probably going to be disappointed. If what you crave is aspirational wlw content, there are so many bakeries you can go to that will give you exactly what you’re hoping for, and more. I especially recommend Muted by Miranda Mundt. It’s also on Webtoon, it’s completed, and it’s free to read.
And please know that I’m not saying to stop reading Nevermore, just maybe to adjust your expectations a little bit. We don’t sell cakes here, but I am pretty sure I've got a few 12ft tall skeleton lawn ornaments in the back if you're interested.

naddpod is just so fucking good. and i know i'm preaching to the choir on tumblr, in the naddpod tag, but cold hard truths hit every note for me. deeply emotional, character-driven moments that made that ep so engaging despite the party being separated. unique combat design, because murph never rests on his laurels; no one is doing it like him. brilliant and creative player strategy. a cool, creepy atmosphere that's tense and immersive. and it all began with the stupidest bit imaginable.

hiii! not to ebeg again because i've been quiet about it the past few months but long story short my boss fired me and is replacing me (and other part time workers) with volunteers
obviously there's not much that can be done about that. i'm filling out job applications every day and am in the process of taking an online bar-tending course but right now, only 1/4 of my household's members is making an income and it's minimum wage.
all that said, i know that i'm preaching to the choir for the most part. if you're currently in the same deep water as i am (or deeper, as i know i'm still fortunate in many ways), obviously don't feel pressured to donate

Okay so I'm slowly going through the massive backlog of Dimension 20 because it is PRECISELY my speed for actual plays and the first old season I watched was Mice and Murder because my husband and I are huge murder mystery fans and. You guys. This season is so good.
I know I'm preaching to the choir because the m&m Tumblr tag consists entirely of "Mice and Murder is underrated" and "this is a post about D20 in which I have tagged the name of every season," so I will leave most of the gushing to one side and just give my biggest takeaway.
Mice and Murder is a masterclass of how to start playing D&D and how to support people who are just starting playing D&D. From Brennan's patient leading of players to conclusions without being pushy or condescending, to Ally's welcoming energy as the one experienced player, to all the newbies learning their rhythm and just diving in...it gives some really good models of what an early D&D experience can be like and I just respect it so much for that.
(If you are intrigued by my thesis and haven't watched that season's Adventuring Party, absolutely go do that, cause they really get down into it and I love it.)

I know it's kind of old news now, but instead of continuing to consume media that's being put out by corporations too greedy to pay writers and give them decent working conditions, my advice?
Read Fanfiction
I know you've probably heard it before (tumblr veterans, I'm preaching to the choir), and maybe you haven't and don't care (all of the incoming reddit and twitter refugees, please keep an open mind, fanfic is fairly common here and not considered as "cringe" as other parts of the internet), but please hear me out. By reading fanfiction, you are doing two (2) important things while also getting your fix for your favorite characters/worlds/tropes.
First, you are essentially boycotting those awful, awful corporations that have driven writers to strike. Like the 07-08 writers strike made unscripted reality TV boom, the writers strike today has stirred up thoughts of using AI to get around hiring writers. In order to keep humans in creative control, we need to consume media made by humans*
Now, secondly, by reading fanfiction, you are supporting small artists and writers. Not only are you supporting the writers of the actual fanfictions, but you also might be supporting their beta reader or their cover artist.
Archive of Our Own (or AO3) is my go-to site. It's an archive (duh) that's non-profit, volunteer run, and the tagging system is nearly flawless, in my opinion. You can find nearly every fandom, every ship, and every trope. They also have an app. It's not as good, but it does offer some accessibility options.
There's plenty of other sites as well, but AO3 works the best for me. I recommend it highly, especially since there is an option to exclude certain tags, which is incredibly helpful in weeding out triggering fanfics.
I know some people have mixed feelings about the strike and how it affects their favorite media, but please remember why they're doing it. Writers deserve better, especially since they work so hard to continue creating your favorites. So, in these trying times, when you miss the world and characters that these writers were creating, turn to the other talented writers who have taken them up and are creating stories with them.
Read Fanfiction
*This isn't just fanfiction, of course, though that is probably the easiest way to do so, but also supporting fanartists, small novelists (idk if you've seen, but 7 Deadly Habits of the Modern Demon Summoner by @animentality is all over my dashboard and I couldn't be happier), smaller podcasts (I recommend DND actual play podcast for those of you who want your action fix), and generally watching indie and small production movies and shows.
TL;DR - don't continue to support corporations during the writers' strike, read fanfiction and support small artists and writers.

Ok, so I know I'm totally just preaching to the choir on here, but I wanted to rant for a second and this is the only place I'm willing to do it, so-
Scrolling through the sad remains of Twitter today, I came across this post:
And I got super excited because I feel like I rarely see people flaunting their Asexuality like this (outside of the community here on Tumblr, that is), so I was just like "Oh fuck yeah, Ace rep!"
Then I made the mistake of scrolling through the comments... and that's really what this post is about, I just wanted a quick vent over some of the more repeated sentiments that I found.
(She responded to a few of them herself and I left in her responses, because yas queen, clap back at them!)
But anyway, quick tale of my experience as a bi-ace person: First and foremost, I think I look good/attractive/whatever and at times I do want to flaunt that because if I'm really feeling the way I look, why shouldn't I be encouraged to show off my muscles or wear a shirt that accentuates my boobs or pants that show off my ass? So yeah, I dress in a "sexual" manner from time to time, especially at pride where it lowkey feels like part of the point a lot of the time, and no, I'm not looking for any serial attention from that and yes, that is okay and normal and people need to stop acting like showing skin means you're some desperate whore (not that theres anything wrong with people who *are* hyper sexual in any way, Im just venting my own experience here).
Also, there were a lot of comments about why protection and rights matter for Ace people when at their most extreme they are A) not have sex and B) can basically go incognito in society and no one needs to know. But more complicated than that, isn't it? Because first of all, not all ace people are fully celibate (Im not) and all ace people I know personally still want to be in a relationship, just not necessarily a sexual one. In my case I got super lucky with my first major partner in that I was able to explain it to him and have him understand that I only get properly horny once in a blue moon, so if he wants sex, he needs to initiate and if Im really not feeling it at all, he needs to be okay with that. We were able to work out what the sexual part of our relationship would look like and things worked out, but, like I said, we were *lucky*.
And on the topic of commication and safety, that stuff is a two way street, it doesn't always help to be upfront about it. I have a friend who's fully non-sexual Ace and the first relationship they got into after feeling solid in that identity they *did* tell their partner right away that they're ace and explained that they're not interested in anything sexual at all and their partner responded by LYING and saying that he was fully non-sexual ace too, but then months into the relationship he tried to start shit and when she reminded him that she didn't want that he suddenly was talking about how they only think that because they've never had sex before, and they just need to change the medication they're taking because *thats* the cause and it's actually just religious trauma that makes her think she doesn't want it and he effectively tried to gaslight them into thinking they were straight when that is absolutley NOT the case and it's taken YEARS for them to feel solid in her identity again, not to mention start dating again (her current partner is lovely genuinely accepting and Im super happy for them)
So anyway, I just wanted to rant about this because it fucking SUCKS to constantly have people tell you that your too sexual to actually be ace or your unnatural for not wanting sex or your just confused or whatever and it can lead to genuinely horrifying situations of being forced into very uncomfortable situations because you're being gaslit by people who are supposed to and claim to love you.
