#I'm not going to bother listing every character I talk about under this post
When it comes to the Tails Polycule what would other characters think of them?
Hmmm...good question!
In general, I think others would feel a bit weird about it (but largely they'd get acceptance from friends) for the most part
But under the cut I'll put some prime characters down and how they'd react to the relationship
Sonic:
I think learning about them throws Sonic off at first, just cause he doesn't expect it. While he'd feel a bit weird about it at first, I think he'd grow used to it pretty quickly (especially in a situation where they're already dating and clearly hanging out more/being more intimate in front of him and he doesn’t learn for a while).
All in all, he loves Prime!Tails, Nine, and the variants, and this kind of just fits in as an extension of his goal to be able to travel and adventure and have fun with his best buds, so I he'd be the last to complain about Tails getting along with Nine and the other variants. Honestly, whenever the polycule hang out as a full group I think Sonic is most likely out of the other characters to tag along.
Shadow:
He acts like he doesn't care or is indifferent to it. Deep down he doesn't really know how he feels about it and tries not to dwell on it. No matter what he probably feels a bit odd about it deep down.
Amy:
Completely depends on the context.
Like if Amy finds out alone or gets to have the first word about it, I can see her a bit thrown off or initially weirded out. If someone else makes an exclamation that even implies the polycule's situation is weird, though, I can see her sticking up for Tails' polycule by waxing poetry about how beautiful and precious love is and how it's none of their business even if it is a bit...unorthodox.
All in all, she’d be a bit weirded out, but she'd support them in the end I think. Kind of in a "Well, I'd never do that but you know live and let love" way
However, in a hypothetical situation where she meets the other Amy variants and ends up having something going on with him, I can see her start to understand Tails.
Knuckles:
Probably raises an eyebrow at it and finds it a bit odd, but he's got the same attitude about it as that one anime clip where the guy is like "Woah! That dude has horns! Well, not gonna ruin my day".
He doesn’t really get it, but Tails can do what he wants so he doesn’t care
Rouge:
I'm sure she's got some thoughts at first (probably finds it odd at first also), but in the end she doesn't really care and learns to get used to it. She probably started covering up for being weirded out and tried to be supportive by teasing them about their relationship. Like Knuckles and Amy she kind of adopts the "Tails can do whatever he wants. Not gonna ruin my day" approach
Omega:
He could care less.
However, I could see him getting into a situation like...idk...fighting some Chaos Council eggforcers with Nine (with Nine using other weapons he developed for combat, which would include some explosives) and being like "Tiny animal based lifeform [Tails]. Do not let this one get away." or something 😂
Big:
Eh largely indifferent. If someone told him about the polycule he'd be like "Huh. That's cool I guess." If the polycule wants to go fishing, who is he to refuse? But on their relationship itself, it doesn't bother him.
Eggman:
He would be the most vocal about how weird it is I think. But if they become enough of a menace to him and his plans he'll probably be too focused on how annoying they are to think quite as much about how strange or weird he finds that relationship.
It's also Eggman though so I think he's liable to change his tune from "this is so odd/weird/gross to me" to being able to make fun of them or tease them or use their relationship for his own gain in some way
Black Rose, Thorn Rose, Rusty Rose:
While I think they may take some issue with some of the individual relationships here, all in all (especially after they decide to trust Nine) they very much support them. They get it, after all.
Rebel Rouge:
It weirds her out, and it especially surprises her that Nine managed to land them all. She largely tries to ignore it and focus on business at hand.
Renegade Knucks:
Weirds him out. I can see him being vocal on how surprising it is Nine landed them all, and vocal (within Nine's earshot) about how weird it is.
However, I mean it with my full chest when I say that Renegade could make out with Dread, turn to Nine, and then tell Nine about how weird the Tails polycule relationship is. Even if it's just to make Nine annoyed or to make his dislike of him known. In a case like that, though, I think he'd start out being kind of weirded out and shift to being indifferent but still vocal about how he can't understand why the others would pick Nine (the case being that he starts to uh catch some feelings for some variants himself).
Dr. Babble:
Honestly, can't decide whether the baby even cares at all. I feel like he'd get more fun out of playing whackamole with them then worrying about their relationship in any capacity.
Dr. Don't:
Vocal about how weird it is, but mostly because I think he would just dislike the idea of others in a relationship or being obviously in a relationship in front of his salad. Fictional stuff or fantasizing about being in a relationship/pinjng is one thing (specifically something he can choose to engage in on his own terms), but being subjected to someone else's relationship is another. He tries not to dwell on the polycule's existence.
Dr. Deep:
I think he'd be vocal about how weird and "obviously gross" it is, but like...noncommittaly?
I don't think he actually cares at all whether any mobians are in a relationship, nor does he really care to hear about it. Rather, I think his outward reaction is simply out of a sense of saying/acting how he should act after learning this information rather than saying what he actually believes. If it came down to it, he'd use their relationship for his own gain if it was possible to.
Mr. Dr. Eggman:
So he does find it a bit odd and largely tries not to dwell on it, but how he acts outwardly (super weirded out, supportive, whatever) completely depends upon the context of the situation and what he's trying to do or make someone think. If you asked him how he felt about them being in a polycule, I think one of his answers would be that he finds all mobian relationships weird/gross anyways.
Dr. Done It
He simply does not want to know about this, and I think he'd largely try to ignore it
However, I think depending on the situation at hand (like if he was planning on manipulating someone to do something or feel some sort of way), or even depending on his mood at that moment he could be vocally weirded out or supportive or whatever.
Prim:
It definitely throws her off/surprises her when she learns of it, although I think she'd be fairly supportive (especially once she trusts that Nine and the others really do care about Mangey). I think over time she'd kind of get used to it and it wouldn't really bother her.
Hangry:
It could confuse him at first but he ultimately does not care. I think even if he did feel weird about the relationship or oppose it in any way, he'd change his tune if Sails, Tails, or Nine (or a combination/all three) made a delicious meal for the Boscage gang that he liked.
Kinda like the situation with Omega, I think it's funny to imagine Hangry shaking Mangey by the shoulders telling him to never let go of someone who gives you free food😂
Gnarly:
At worst, he does not care and gets distracted by some conspiracy or another he ends up going on about
At best, he reacts supportively but by stressing how Mangey should always be on guard
Although, I also think it's funny to imagine him thinking about the relationship on occasion until he ends up dreaming of kissing Knuckles variants under the moonlight.
Batten Rouge:
I think she'll be surprised at first, not expecting it, but eh if Captain Rose and Rusty Rose can be like that and support it, who is she to judge? If she finds it weird, she doesn't really dwell on it. All in all, I'd say she'd (at worst) want to trust Nine, but I think she'd trust Sails can take care of himself regardless of how she feels towards Tails and the other variants
Knuckles the Dread:
I think by post canon Sonic Prime the polycule would not weird him out. I don't think he'd really care too much all in all, but he'd express support in Sails' relationship.
Okay, and now for the bonus round!!
Chaos Sonic (Specifically in an au where Nine revives him)
He could care less about the selfcest angle or whatever. Nah. He is so jealous. I think especially at first he'd act like he has to make sure the other variants are good enough for his "best friend". Although I'd think he'd warm up to the other variants over time and at least form an amicable relationship with each of them, even when he's on good terms with them Nine has to order the robot to leave the room if he doesn't want to the robot present when he's hanging out with Tails and/or the other variants (during normal or more...intimate moments)
Alpha Grim Sonic (specifically from my musings of an au where Nine rebuilds him post canon)
Again, the robot could care less about the selfcest angle or whatever. I think he'd be fine with Tails and the variants once he's sure they're not a threat and that Nine doesn't hold ill will towards them. I think that he'd comply to commands to leave Nine and his boyfriends be with less reluctance than Chaos Sonic (or at least, less visual reluctance. Even if he wouldn't want to leave the room, he'd leave pretty much immediately when asked), but I think he'd also be jealous of the relationship Nine has with his polycule without realizing that the feeling he is feeling is jealousy. I think, deep down, he'd want to be like that with Nine, even if he is fairly close to him already with his position.
Essentially, it's...complicated. But what he cares about most of all is Nine's well-being and that his wishes are fulfilled.
Thank you so much for the ask, anon! I actually wasn't originally planning to put so many characters under the cut, but of course I got a bit invested. I definitely enjoyed writing this😊

So I was checking out Greg Ellis' IMDB page to see if he's been in anything recently. I mainly wanted to know if the whole blowup between him and Mark Darrah 3 years ago that resulted in him making a YouTube video speaking in Cullen's voice while beseeching the Dragon Age fandom to rise up against Cancel Culture affected his career in any way.
This was swiftly forgotten, however, due to the fact that I got really caught up in the wall of text that is his Mini Bio.
Tumblr media
It's a lot, right? Usually when I see bios on IMDB they're less than a paragraph. But what got me was the inclusion of all these weird details. How Greg "mastered the Rubik's cube at 12" and that he's "skydived 10,000 feet above the earth" (so? ppl skydive, man, why is this important). But then there's this mention that he has over 20 action figures of characters he's portrayed in film and television. Like... seriously? This is really worth including in your IMDB Bio? Then right at the bottom it says the Bio was written by PR which lol
Tumblr media
Anyway, I didn't post on tumblr dot com just to dunk on all the questionable details Greg PR decided to include in his IMDB.
What I wanna talk about is this lil detail here:
Tumblr media
Now, I've read his IMDB bio a couple times over the years and have never really questioned whether Greg was truly nominated for an Emmy. Like, who tf would lie about being nominated for an Emmy? But then I started wondering what the Emmy was for (seeing as how he neglects to mention it in his bio) so I decided to do some digging into what he was nominated for.
Doing a general google search turned up nothing so I decided to try his website to see if he supplies more details, and he does.
Tumblr media
Again, he neglects to mention what the nomination was for, but says that he was nominated for his role on 24. So naturally I did a search for 24 Emmy nominations.
It is at this point I become aware that the Emmys have not only dedicated pages for shows that have won Emmys, but also a search function.
Guess whose name isn't listed on 24's Emmy Award page?
Guess whose name doesn't reveal any results for even something as basic as an Emmy nomination?
Even under his legal name? Or the other version of his legal name?
Okay, so maybe they just neglected to add him on the 24 page. If Greg was nominated for anything, it would most likely be under "Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series" as he was a guest actor for 9 episodes of the show (as Michael Amador) between 2003 and 2004.
He's not listed in the nominees for 2003, 2004, or even 2005 (just to be generous). And since I bothered to look it up just to double check, here's a YouTube video for every year in this category: 2003, 2004, 2005.
-------
While all this may seem like a bit much just to emphasize that Greg is lying about an Emmy nomination, I need it to be understood that I did my best trying to verify its existence. On the off chance it turns out the nomination exists somewhere, let it be known I'll delete this post and apologize for misinforming people.
But I just gotta say, if it's not on the Emmy's website or even his own Wikipedia page, then where tf is it? Like, I get that Wikipedia isn't a totally reliable source, but Gregory Itzin, who actually was nominated twice on 24 as a supporting actor, has it not only mentioned on his wikipedia page, but also has one of his nominations sourced (if you click on the link it will download a PDF).
So until proof that he was ever nominated turns up, I'm going to assume he's lying about it. Which is funny when you consider he's not even lying about winning an Emmy, he's lying about being nominated for one. He's lying about losing an Emmy. Like, could you imagine if Tommy Tallarico lied about almost being on MTV Cribs?
Anyway please reblog this post and feel free to steal it because I find this extremely funny and would love it if someone asked Greg why the internet isn't turning up results for his Totally Real Emmy Nomination.
ETA - Adding a link to @aidanchaser pointing out that it seems like Greg is claiming he was nominated under the categories for "outstanding casting in a drama series" and/or "outstanding drama series" based on what he says about the nomination on his website, along with my reply as I was aware of those nominations but didn't make the connection between them and what he says on his website.
I'm only going to add here that his claim to this nomination is a huge stretch because, by similar logic, if 24 actually won either of those nominations, basically anyone who worked on 24 could claim that they're an Emmy award winning guest actor or production designer, which entirely misrepresents the award being given as it hollistically takes into account various parts of the casting and production. Like, there's a reason there's separate categories for this stuff, and the fact that he seems so comfortable making this claim on his IMDB that he's an "Emmy nominated actor" based on those nominations is such a wild stretch.
And it's clear to me this obfuscation was intentional because he could've easily said that he worked on the "Emmy award winning show, 24" because that's more accurate to the truth of his involvement with the production (i.e. that he worked on a show that won muliple awards). But specifically claiming he was "nominated" lends credence to the notion that he was nominated specifically for his work while still technically being true (despite that claim being bullshit).

OMORI Rank-up Tier List #1: Main Cast
Alright, I've recently finished OMORI and I've given myself a bit of time to sit on it, think about the characters and how everything panned out. And hey, it's a pretty writing-centric game, I'm running a pretty writing-centric blog, so why not start with a short two-part series of appreciation posts for the game in the form of a tier list?
I definitely have a lot less to say about the side characters, so I won't be bothering giving them their own post, I'll be clumping them with the next one which is going to be a review of the locations/boss fights throughout the game that I was able to experience.
I'll note right now for anyone that this is the opinions of someone who finished OMORI about a few days after he posted this and only finished the true ending route (because as much as I love it, I am not willing to put myself through the game again just to go through and see the content in other routes when I can just look it up on YouTube), so this may change sometime in the future. I know for a fact that I was battling like hell with myself when I was ranking these six... anyways.
Obviously, spoilers are inbound, so if you haven't played OMORI and want to check it out for yourself, come back to this post later once you've completed it. If you're ready to look at whatever take this brain of mine has, then here it is under the cut!
Oh, and a few more messages before we get to the meat of it all - I'm going to be clumping and judging the characters with a combination of their aspects from both the dream world and the real world. While I obviously think that the real-world versions of the characters are the 'complete' arcs of themselves and the dream world versions are just watered down versions of them created by Sunny/Omori in their liking, I think it's worth bringing them up anyways since they serve as the background for each character before the horrible tragedy that hit them.
I also think that every single character in the main cast is written fantastically and are all at least A-tier characters in my heart, except for a select few in the top 2 that I think are more than worthy of being put into the S-tier if I were actually putting them into tiers instead of just ranking them.
Alright - let's do this for real this time!
#6 - Mari
You know how much it sucks having to pick a least favorite among a selection of things that you all really like? It's like me having to choose which of my kids I want to put up for adoption, blegh. Unfortunately, someone had to take this and begrudgingly, I'll have to slide everyone's favorite older sister here. I really hope this one isn't controversial...
So, here's the thing about Mari, right? In the perspective of a writer, I think she absolutely has the most going for her in terms of the amount of content you can produce for her in comparison to the rest of the cast. I think the sheer magnitude of possibilities and scenarios that you can write using Mari is pretty much endless, whether it be fluffy alternative universes where she lives or angsty, gut-wrenching punches of how not so great her time with Sunny ended. And believe me, that's just scraping the surface of what you can do with her!
Mari's a constant presence throughout the entirety of the game, whether it be in the form of Something looking over Sunny and Omori, being the support for everyone in the friend group as you go through the dream world, or her unfortunate death being the reason everyone in the real world turned out the way they did. And as much as I want to like Mari more, she's a very charming character and I think her relationship with Hero is one of the highlights of the game, I constantly find myself appreciating it (as a writer who enjoys angst) from Hero's side more because of how he responds to it. There just... isn't much for me to look at, honestly? Her dream world self is a sweetheart, bless her - but when we talk about how fleshed out she really is, there's not much for me to say other than what's already been shown to you in the story.
The best parts of Mari are in the symbolism scattered throughout the game in Sunny's subconscious and the short scenes we get of her throughout the game. I think I can attribute this to one of the criticisms I have of Omori; I really, really think Mari's character would've benefited from having more scenes of her failings (the pressure to get the duet with Sunny right; her perfectionist attitude being the reason he snaps being the fatal flaw that causes her death) actually play out instead of being left up to interpretation and details in the flavor text of the game.
Shit stinks. I really wish we could've seen that more- ironically enough, the imperfect side of Mari. Because the way I interpreted it, Sunny's motivation for playing the violin was so he could spend more time with Mari regardless of how much stress it puts on him and how much time it takes away from getting to chill with his friends. And when even that stops being fun for Sunny because of the pressure he feels considering it was the day of the recital and he still wasn't playing it perfectly, he lashes out and breaks the violin. In comparison, Mari wanted to perfect it cause... uhh, I dunno? Would sure be nice if we got more context on why she acted like that, considering the stark contrast of what she's like in the dream world...
If you really want to be harsh about it, Mari just ended up being a plot device for Sunny's own story, unfortunately. There exists a personality in there in the form of her dream world self; but it's angelic, too much so (which we obviously know why, it's Sunny's interpretation of Mari, a person who could do no wrong). I wish there was more about how Mari really was - as a sibling, as a girlfriend, and just as a person than the stories we get from the other characters that we have to fill in the blanks ourselves.
But hey, that's what fanfics are for, yeah? You go, Mari enjoyers. I love all of y'all. (Has been in the fandom for like no more than a week)
#5 - Basil
You hate to see it. Sorry, I know a lot of the fandom adores this boyo (I know a friend of mine does and I apologize in advance to you) and I do too, but I think it speaks volumes of how much I love this cast when a character of the floral lad's level can land himself in a spot like this. Man, why'd I put the two sweetest and kindest characters in the main cast at the bottom? I'm horrible, lmfao.
Ahh, Basil. In fairness, I think he has my second favorite design in the game only behind Aubrey from the real world, and if there's a character I'd want to roleplay as - I think my mind would go to Basil too, actually. There's so much good I can say about Basil that it makes me wonder; how in the world did he end up all the way over here?
Is it because of the horrible shit he pulled (seriously, how does a 12 year old come up with that? oh wait, my blog is nagisa shingetsu themed. nevermind, it's totally reasonable.) that he ended up here? Nope, heck I think he's way more interesting of a character because of it; seeing just how badly he was willing to protect his best friend and save him, only to create a rift between the two that becomes the focal point of the entire plot. That's good fucking shit right there. Love when characters have good intentions in mind and it just ruins their life.
The striking thing about Basil is that he has a very complete personality that makes him easy to latch onto; Basil is a kind soul with a strong sense of empathy and understanding of others, he loves photography and flowers, going as far as to have descriptions of his best friends in the wake of said flowers. He's a little troubled, hates fighting, but he's trying his best in spite of that to keep a smile on his face. He's a good boy and I think if you showed a normal person who knows nothing about the game the main cast, I think most people would say Basil's either the most interesting or their favorite character just by how nicely wrapped his presentation is when you disregard all the spoilery stuff about him.
Where it stops for me though is this - for someone who plays such an important role in the story and how the main conflict in pretty much 75% of the game is centered around him, Basil sure enjoys being absent because unfortunately, said conflict is the fact that he's missing. I'm not going to use this as a diss on Basil's character because it isn't his fault that he's pretty much required to be shrouded in mystery, and I don't even know what suggestions I'd have to improve it because you can't be showing Basil off too much.
But we're at a crossroads here. I think we didn't see Basil enough in the story, but at the same time... what could you do in OMORI that fixes that issue while also not overexposing him at the same time? Another unlucky spot that Basil's put in is the fact that some of the scenes where he's present in the real-world are overshadowed by another character capturing me more (Aubrey). It's not that there's a lack of him, but it's... ugh. It's so hard to explain.
It's tough. Because Basil's struggles is just so incredibly heartbreaking and I really, really do feel for him and just want to give the guy a hug after all that he's been through. Being driven to the point where you and your best friends are fighting each other, even gouging out his fucking eye??? It's horrific. I don't think the first thought that came to Basil's mind during the incident was 'let's hide this evidence as fast as we can', but more of a 'oh god, i need to save my best friend'. He's got so much weighing down on him.
At the end of the day, I don't even think Basil's underutilized. It just feels like he is, and I can't shake it off enough to put him above all the other characters here. Sorry, flower boy. I get the feeling you'll grow on me more as time passes, though.
#4 - Sunny
Hey, it's the protagonist! I usually put guys like you a lot higher than this, especially considering just how much I was rooting for you... and you did! So happy for you, my man. I'll forever be grateful I stumbled upon the best possible ending for the gang on my first and only playthrough of the game. Oh right, we should be talking about him instead of me. Sorry about that.
While some people like to consider Omori and Sunny as separate entities and prefer to rank them exclusive of one another, I'm personally going to take the other route and do as I've been doing with everyone else here; collectively using both dream world and real-world versions to judge the character as a whole.
And that plays the biggest factor me when it comes to ranking Omori/Sunny. Because I don't think Omori is a separate person from who Sunny is - I think Omori is an aspect of Sunny that formed as a result of the trauma that the incident with Mari caused. Omori is Sunny's coping mechanism, less of a shield, more of a wall; but I think the best word to describe him is a bubble that keeps Sunny's most horrific memories from resurfacing.
When I first played this game, I immediately found myself pretty attached to Omori because he was just a dry, quiet little guy who hangs out with his friends and might have some sort of mental issue to him. Who could resist such allure? But damn, if it weren't for the real world segments and how it all culminates into the final battle between Sunny and Omori... I think he'd be in Mari's spot. A character too reliant on flavor text to showcase their character, not really leaving enough of an impact for me to immediately think about them when I hear about the game OMORI.
But Sunny... Sunny, my beautiful boy. This poor fucking kid. Sunny is such an incredibly human character and I always found myself feeling pity for the guy, he's been dealt with such a horrible hand in the short time he's been alive, and yet despite me never going anywhere near the Sunny that went through, and having a very different personality from him; I can attest, he's very relatable. Just remind yourself that this kid pretty much tortured and isolated him for four whole years all alone because he couldn't get over the guilt that accidentally killing Mari gave him.
Four years is the amount of time between the start of the pandemic and today. Imagine never leaving your house, having no friends to rely on or talk to, constantly living in a fantasy world where you can do no wrong to hide yourself and cope, and dealing with at a worst case scenario was daily nightmares of your most horrible memory. Sunny's immediate reactions to anything that causes him distress is to block it out, and so; Omori, being his bubble, will do whatever means it takes to protect Sunny regardless of how much better it'd actually be in the end for him to finally accept the reality of what happened four years ago.
I don't normally mess or enjoy silent protagonists much because they're inherently kind of dull and usually end up falling flat. But along with Kris from Deltarune, Sunny is wonderful. It's just a shame that everyone after him are people I ended up feeling more connected to.
#3 - Hero
I honestly can't believe this man managed to win me over so hard that he'd place in the top 3. I kept thinking to myself while I was ranking the main cast: 'I like this character more than him, right...?'. But almost every single time, I remember something this goofy charm of a man did and I just sigh and realize I didn't appreciate him enough until after my playthrough and looked back on how so many of the things I liked about this game involved him.
So, here we are. At third, is none other than the world's most handsome man himself - Hero. I'm still wondering what his real name is if Hero was apparently just a nickname. Henry? That's like the closest thing I can think of off the top of my head. But let's address the elephant in the room.
I'll get this out of the way already. I'm perfectly aware that in comparison to everyone else, Hero doesn't get as much screentime or focus, heck; in the real world, he only shows up at the end of the second day and his most memorable moment for me was Kel telling us about what became of Hero after Mari's death when you go to her at the cemetery during Three Days Left. Flavor text. The very thing I pointed out to be why everyone before Hero is ranked lower than him. So how come he's up here...?
More than anything else, it's personal attachment. Apologies again for making this about me (pretty much every character from here is going to involve a bit of my personal life), but I have no siblings at all. This was kind of my fault, since I was so attached to my parents' love and affection that I didn't want anyone else taking that away from me. At the same time, I had three older male cousins who were the closest things to a big brother that I ever had in my childhood. They weren't exactly the nicest to me... but I always figured that was admittedly because of how weird I was as a kid anyways, so I don't hold that against them. I just wish I could've connected with them more.
Hero not only feels a lot more 'real' as a person to me in comparison to characters like Basil and Mari, not only cause I know people who handled the loss of a family member like he did and managed to hold himself enough and not go to the deep end. They're some of the most admirable people I know, and I look up to them a lot. Hero constantly wonders what he did wrong that Mari felt the need to commit suicide, but in the end; it's because he didn't do anything wrong. It's why I've always thought Hero's perspective after the good ending is the most interesting one and the one I always look forward to when I see how the writer executes it.
Not only does Hero get significantly more screentime than the characters before him in the form of the dream world, and feel much more alive than all the other dream world versions of the main cast, but he's much more flexible and allows for more wholeness in what I want to feel from a character.
What I mean by that is that Hero's personality and character opens more opportunities (and capitalizes on it!) so he can make me laugh, he can make me feel for him, he can be someone I can relate and struggle with, he can be someone I want to root for, and he's someone I can attribute to things I hold dearly to in real life.
He might not be the most complex or tragic (and considering what he went through, it goes to show just how bad shit gets in this game) character out there in a cast full of really deep ones, nor does he really stand out in the cast to some people...
But to me, he's everything I want out of a character. The only things that stopped him from being higher is that I was more compelled and struck by the next two.
#2 - Aubrey
Honestly? I thought Sunny would be a lot higher; in the spots that this one and the one after her would be, but I took the time to think about it and after some careful thought, I realized - yeah, I think these two are just more gripping to me and characters that I genuinely felt astonished by.
The dream world versions of the characters are husks. They're the idealistic versions of Sunny's friends and are characters that are only truly completed and finished because their real persona is so... amazing. And Aubrey...?
Out of any other character in the game, I think Aubrey benefits from the arc her real world has more than anyone else in this game. Because good god, this girl... I would've thought I'd feel more bad about the other characters, but I found myself constantly worrying about Aubrey because the circumstances that surrounded her was nothing short of poignant.
Could you imagine being in her position? You lose someone who's basically your older sister in a friend group that's more family than your own blood; because they're all deadbeats and your home life is unpleasant, to put it lightly. All of them start to drift off, for one reason and another, and it feels like nobody is even there to comfort you or give you a shoulder to lean on. But wait, maybe you do! Your childhood friend Basil, who's kind of nervous and seems pretty broken, but at least he's still there, right...?
And yet, from Aubrey's perspective, Basil ruined what was essentially the only physical memories they had left of their Mari. Someone she loved so dearly, desecrated like that... that broke her. For Aubrey, it felt like there was no one there that could understand her. And then, after four long years - suddenly, one of your friends finally decides to show his face, and this obnoxious, overly positive and reality-denying guy tries to act like you didn't just lose four years of your life wondering what went wrong and why she lost everything so quickly.
Wouldn't it feel insulting?
I don't normally like 'bully' characters (mainly due to my own childhood experiences with them), because they usually hit too close to home to me. I hate that I even feel like categorizing Aubrey as that considering we know the circumstances around her life. To make matters worse, she was probably the one I least cared about until her arc in the real world started and she completely blew me away.
Aubrey, whom I love the real design of and think she looks great in the real world - Aubrey's arc and character is something you learn to appreciate. It's something that you can only really 'get' when you remember the lesson OMORI tries to teach you in the first place.
And well, if you've played the game, then I need not explain any further. Let's move on to the guy in first.
#1 - Kel
A dork, kind of a dunce, but a champion. He is the catalyst for the true ending and is the reason the path to it even opens up in the first place. I'll concede this; characters that are complex like Aubrey, Sunny, and Basil are normally the characters you'd see as my favorites because I tend to value them more or just like their presence more.
But in any game; I really, really don't think I've ever seen a character archetype in the way that Kel's in who manages to not only be full of that childish endearing aura to him, yet flawed and so very, very real and human; who you can understand why other characters would lash out and get irritated at him, but also support him knowing fully well that his intentions are always for the best...
Kel is amazing. From the first interaction with him in the dream world, I was immediately hooked because of his stupid and goofy little humor that brings me to reminiscences of a simpler, more fun and youthful time in my life. I was worried that I might grow tired of him since; let's face it, dream world Kel does have shades of being just a tad one-dimensional. I was genuinely considering putting Aubrey as my favorite character.
And then I remembered the graveyard scene with Kel talking about his and Hero's story.
No scene in the game solidified my love for a character and made me want to do everything for them more than that did with Kel. Hands down, that is my favorite scene in the entire game and not a lot of moments come close.
Kel's kind of bad at reading the room, I think he's self-aware enough to know that he's stubborn and there are times where he's stepping into territory that should just be left alone.
Despite that though, it's because of his persistence that he succeeds. Kel might just seem like a positive and happy go lucky goofball (he is, tbf), but he had to deal with his own shit too. In response to Mari's death, Kel put on a smile and did what he believed Mari would've wanted him to do - he healed himself and got back up by making new friends, taking the time to worry about others, and try to get the friend group back together.
No matter how many tries it took. I seriously, seriously wonder just how much time Kel spent knocking on doors, asking his old friends if they wanted to hang out, yet always falling on deaf ears. I think the reason he's able to smile in spite of it all is that he just hasn't had the chance to mourn on his own. There are moments where the smile breaks for a bit; times like when Hero is the one that immediately gets rushed to by his parents while he's just left there when the two of them fought, or after Hero saves Basil after Aubrey pushed him into the lake, and he starts wanting nothing more to do with Aubrey, thinking that she's really changed until Hero manages to convince him otherwise.
Or worst of all, in the neutral ending... where Basil lets himself go and Kel cries, finally breaking down and unable to hold back the tears this time. He asks Sunny; 'why does this keep happening to us?' in the most heartbreaking sprite in the game. He's human and has a limit, just like everyone else. And it's so cathartic when in the good ending, Kel's efforts pays off in the form of Sunny finally overcoming his demons.
Everything I said about Hero being flexible and whole? Kel is that, but cranked to 11. I absolutely adore this boy and I want him to be happy, because he deserves the world and more.
Kel is my favorite character in all of OMORI. And with that, here's the formal image of the final rankings of all these characters.
Tumblr media
Whoo, that must've been a doozy. Sorry that got so long, and if any of my thoughts didn't make sense or are incoherent - I'm a lot better following up on things and adding to it rather than trying to formulate my own thoughts, because trying to think of stuff that people don't already say is pretty hard, eheh.
Anyways, that's my ranking of the main 6 characters from OMORI. Not ashamed to say how much I love all of them and this game, and I'm looking forward to the next time I find the energy to continue this series and divert the discussion from its core set of characters. Hope you enjoyed reading this!

Woah. an actual, proper intro/pin post?
Hey! Yeah, I'm finally making one of these. about time, too!
I go by LITERALLY dozens of names, but four that I will always respond to are Zeph/Zephyr, Nirakeii, and Keda. im the guy who cant make up his mind when it comes to shipping characters
I am not religious and never will be. When I swear to something or the like, i most likely will replace a word with 'Void' or 'The ancients', 'Three Moons', 'By the stars', etc...
I am a self-shipper (Thats right- I ship my ocs and self inserts with canon characters). If you don't like that, please do not bother me about it. I don't want to hear it. If it bothers you that much, you can just block my account or ignore me. Thank you.
Transmasculine and bisexual, (male leaning)!
I accept everyone and anyone, xenogenders, neopronouns, homoflexible, etc.
...well.. almost everyone..
....Except for you disgusting Pro/Com shippers, Ableist, "Super Straights", TERFS, Shota/Lolicons, "MAP"/Pedos, Zoos, Etc, Get off of my fucking blog, NOW. You are NOT welcome here, not now, and not EVER. That goes for all other problematic and disgusting-acting people. if you fall under the general DNI list, do not interact with me.
Despite being English (U.S.A), I tend to be really fuckin trash at speaking my own native tongue. I am trying to learn:
Spanish
Norwegian
Proud Ragequit (5P x NSH) and SolarFlare (SRS x CW/GW) shipper
Sometimes, I project onto Pebbles and other characters i like/kin, so hope that doesn't bother you guys!

Okay gonna go ahead and watch the entirety of Volume 9 now that the whole thing's been released. I'll share my impressions of each episode. Half this post is out of date because I originally started writing it when the premier came out and then decided I didn't care enough about RWBY to either continue watching it or continue writing about it midway through, so it will probably be a little disjointed. Further episode reviews will probably be a bit more coherent.
Gonna put everything under the cut because honestly I was not impressed with this episode at all. While there were some things I liked, the tone of this post is going to be very critical in general, so I'm putting that warning out there right now so the people who want nothing to do with that can skip over this post and go on with their day.
Before we begin, I'd like to make it explicitly clear that these are my initial impressions based on my first viewing and that I'm well aware that later episodes might reveal information that changes how I feel about choices made earlier on in the Volume. Given the typical pattern that occurs when I watch RWBY, I fully expect that when I rewatch episodes or watch later episodes or see someone else's takes on the show, I will make connections that I didn't before or find that specific writing choices bother me more or less than they did in the initial moment, so I'm not going to waste time saying "maybe seeing what they do with this later will make it feel better to me" every single time I express a negative opinion. Just assume that I'm doing my best to keep an open mind and remain cognizant of the possibility that things I don't like at first can be recontextualized based on subsequent information.
I should also note that there will be several other factors coloring my analysis. I have listed them below:
Volume 8 sucked ass and did likely-irreparable damage to my opinion of the series
It's been two years since the last Volume released, which means we've had time to build up hopes and expectations. There are things that frustrate me now that may well play better if I watch the prior Volumes and then watch Volume 9 in its entirety immediately after.
Between Volumes 8 and 9, we learned that Rooster Teeth hadn't actually improved like they promised and instead did things like not pay their workers, fire their animation department, and call employees coded slurs on camera. On top of that, I personally learned about some of the stuff Miles Luna has said in the past that is just... ugh, so I don't have a lot of faith that a show controlled and written by this awful fucking company founded on dudebro humor will be a) good and b) willing to tackle any kind of sensitive topic with the tact and seriousness it deserves.
I'm working long hours right now, which means I'm stressed, exhausted, and overall not in a good headspace. My temper is frayed, my memory's slipping, and I'm having trouble gathering and expressing my thoughts. Things that bother me are bothering me more than they normally would, and things that normally make me happy are not making me happy right now. This is unlikely to change prior to the end of Volume 9.
All of this together means I'm much less willing to give Volume 9 the benefit of the doubt than I would've been a few years ago, or even six months ago. That's something to keep in mind as I progress through this post.
That said, I actually really like the opening. The first-person perspective was an interesting change compared to what we usually get, and I really like the way it showed how damn fast Yang went over the edge. I've talked about it before, but the way they chose to portray Yang's fall in slow motion, while suitably dramatic, definitely didn't make it clear that the characters had very little time to react. I think we needed to see Yang get knocked off the ledge in real time and then see Blake fail to save her in dramatic slow motion (side note: Blake was booking it when she saw Yang fall)
I also gotta say I love how Neo was totally willing to throw hands with a teenager in midair. Like, she's just been betrayed by her employer and is possibly falling to her death and the first thing in her head is that she's gonna get her revenge if it's the last thing she does. It's so gloriously self-destructive. I think this is a good character moment for Neo.
After a start that I personally felt was pretty strong, the quality... kinda dips a little. I don't like what happens once we start focusing on Ruby. Her initial response feels very dull to me, and it raises a lot of questions. The first is, like... why isn't she freaking out? Why didn't she vocalize any thoughts? Why is the first thing she actually does vocalize frustration, but specifically frustration played for comedy? Why doesn't she go through the basic wilderness survival checklist a Huntress would presumably have learned (if her schooling didn't teach her, I imagine Qrow would've, and it would've been a nice little callback to the way he mentored her if she had remembered receiving that sort of advice and then acted on it)? Why does she not care that her weapon is missing? Why does she just walk off into the woods like she doesn't give a fuck about anything, including her teammates? Is there a reasonable explanation for her behavior? Is she in shock or something? Is it a good decision on the part of the writers if the answer to the previous two questions is yes (i.e. would it have been better to make Ruby react in some other way)?
I don't like the way we just see Ruby get mad that she's perpetually looping through the forest vs. really grappling with all the events of Volume 8. My guess is that she's doing her usual "crush it all down and put up a front and just never acknowledge any fear or insecurity" thing she likes to do, but it feels to me like it would've been a better choice to get something more out of her, even if it's just a little bit of concern about her teammates. I think they're trying for a slow buildup toward Ruby's breakdown, but we've been waiting for two years and I don't feel like this episode gave us much in general. I'm thinking this might be one of those things where I'd feel better about it if I watched all the relevant episodes in a short timeframe, but it is definitely frustrating now.
This is gonna be a complaint about the episode in general, but I really do not like the decision to go for such a comedic tone. After the tragedy of Volume 8, it just feels jarring. I developed a theory or two about why the writers made this choice as I watched the episode, but neither of them makes it a good one. RWBY should not be trying to be funny right now. A Kingdom fell. Penny died. The girls were traumatized. Why is the first thing we get a bird mocking Ruby and a one-mouse comedy show? This is the wrong choice of tone, and unless the show does something truly phenomenal with it (it won't), I am prepared to die on this hill.
Little's conception of name as purpose is interesting. I have a feeling that identity and purpose and self-perception are going to be prevalent themes throughout this Volume, and I think there's a lot of interesting exploration of those ideas that can be done with all four of our mains, especially Ruby.
WHY DID WE MISS THE BLAKE/WEISS REUNION????? It feels like this episode tries to speedrun the reunification of Team RWBY and there’s no tension to it. That said, I'm glad someone finally acknowledged that weapons other than Crescent Rose have names. That feels like a big part of RWBY's identity and a major element of its themes of self-expression that's really gone underutilized throughout the show's run.
The dialogue here feels a little stilted honestly, would've been nice to see a hug or something (kind of like it would've been nice to see the actual reunion). Really wish that there was more of a sense of urgency when they decide they should try to find the others. Blake was losing her shit when she thought Yang died, I kind of figured she'd be desperate to make sure Yang's okay (and that Weiss, who fought Cinder to the last with her teammate's weapon in her hands and tears running down her cheeks, would have some sort of overt interest in finding anyone that goes beyond "maybe we should look for them, idk").
I like the way Weiss doesn't want to talk about the battle. Feels like it's actually emotionally affected her.
And of course she goes straight from that to comic relief. At least the choice of tone is consistently bad.
We find Gambol Shroud almost immediately. Once again there is no tension or urgency to the search. It's starting to feel like this episode is just speedrunning the Team RWBY reunion so the show can get to whatever the hell it actually wants to do this Volume.
This whole vine trap sequence just annoys me. Why the hell is Weiss cheerleading like Blake is a high school quarterback about to throw a touchdown pass? Why the hell is this show trying to be funny in-universe moments after a Kingdom fell and all four of our mains nearly died? Why the hell are these fucking vines even an obstacle? Blake, you can literally double-jump. I have literally seen you jump higher than this and wall run like a fucking Naruto character without explicitly using your powers. Just pull some Jackie Chan shit and get your weapon back. Pretend, for once, that you are useful in a situation that does not involve either looking cute or pining over Yang. Weiss, you can also literally double-jump. You can help other people double-jump. Stop trying out for the cheerleading squad and do something useful. You could literally make Blake a ladder if you wanted to. For fuck's sake.
When I first watched the episode, I was thinking that maybe the Ever After prevented Semblance use or something, or maybe that it dulled the mental processes of "intruders" like Team RWBY and that was why the characters suddenly had zero brain cells, but after everything else I've learned about this Volume, I'm pretty sure the writers are just incompetent.
There's no tension to them being captured either. Blake, you have a Semblance. Why are these fucking vines even an impediment to you? This episode has thus far failed to set any kind of stakes or establish any kind of threat at all. I don't feel scared for Monochrome here because their captors are a bunch of fucking mice. Blake could free herself with a thought and literally stomp the mice like cockroaches.
Not that it would matter if I did feel anything but annoyance about this scene anyway because Ruby arrives to solve the problem immediately, thus ruining any chance of the show managing to establish any kind of stakes here. Little starts off by... sleeping. What does this character do? Very useful.
The mice, all of them, are fucking annoying. I don't know why they set this trap to begin with or how they knew to bait it with Gambol Shroud and I don't really care. Maybe this'll be one of those things the Volume expands upon later, idk, but right now I'm just waiting for Monochrome to be freed so we can go somewhere else and do something interesting.
Blake, why are you okay with being referred to as a cat? Isn't your whole arc about how Faunus aren't animals and shouldn't be treated as such? Or did you forget that when you also forgot how to fight? Really not doing a great job defending yourself against the years-long accusations of character regression, hon (most of those accusations are stupid but the fact that she did fuck-all besides stare longingly at Yang and wait to be rescued during the Atlas arc lends them some credence, and this is still not a great look regardless).
Interesting that Blake describes Yang as not scary. Very interesting.
Also interesting that Weiss says Yang could be scary if she wanted to. You're not beating the bottom/sub allegations anytime soon, girlie.
Okay, we finally get our first hint that Ruby has an actual plan instead of aimless wandering. Would've been nice if this was indicated in any way earlier, but at least it's something, and that's more than I expect from this episode at this point.
Eat the mouse, Blake. You know you want to. If you're not going to defend yourself against the catgirl profiling, at least live up to it and make this episode more tolerable. I don't know how I feel about her freaking out about Little climbing on her. I think the show is trying too hard to be funny again.
So glad no one gives a fuck about reuniting with Ruby either. Very moving, very emotional. What a close-knit band of friends, what a wonderful found family. RWBY's always had a problem selling the idea that the characters care about each other and are close to each other in the way the narrative wants us to believe they are (because the show doesn't have enough runtime to build those relationships properly and organically and refuses to adjust its scope to fit its resources) and it's getting noticeably worse this episode.
Little fell asleep again. "I can be your trusty guide" -> immediately fails to do anything useful. I don't like this character.
Blake finally shows some urgency. This should've come several minutes ago, but better late than never, I guess. Would be nice if anyone else showed concern for Yang, but I'm not convinced the writers realize there's a spectrum of goal alignment between "unified hivemind" and "only one character is allowed to want or care about any given thing". I still feel no tension around the search for Yang in the slightest. There is nothing in this world to indicate that she won't be totally fine unless she got caught in another stupid vine trap and eaten by mice.
Nice to see Ruby showing interest in the situation. Finally. Also nice to see someone besides Blake showing concern for Yang, muted as it may be. I like the way Weiss is clearly uncomfortable talking about what happened on Rainbow Road. I hope they actually do something with this, but I don't expect it. I don't have enough faith in RWBY's writing for that at this point.
The Jabberwalker is cool. Really freaky. Unfortunately, my torrent didn't have subtitles, so I have no idea what it's saying, which is really annoying.
The mouse goes from useless to active liability. Love it.
Ruby realizes, apparently for the first time, that she doesn't have her weapon. I want to assume that finding it will be a priority, but none of our current main three seem to have any actual priorities at this point, or at least none they care about enough to show any urgency about fulfilling.
Yang, unsurprisingly, is the best part of the episode, not that this is a difficult achievement in the slightest. She demonstrates her absurd (and sexy) physical strength by carrying a rock, this episode, and the weight of her massive balls all at once despite having one arm. You go, girlboss.
Paying attention during the flanking scene, there's a very visible gap in the formation where Ruby's supposed to go. I bet that not being able to participate in combat is not exactly doing great things to her mental state.
The Jabberwalker runs away pretty quick. It feels more like a warning system, or maybe a white blood cell, than a major threat (or maybe trained and Aura/Semblance-empowered Huntresses are just super powerful in comparison to the Ever After). I bet it'll be a recurring problem in this Volume, maybe getting stronger or smarter with every encounter.
I liked that Ruby was running up to Yang and getting ready to greet her until Yang reacted negatively, and I really like that Yang wasn't happy to see Ruby and her other teammates. First Yang thought she died, then she saw Ruby and the others and thought she'd died for nothing. It makes perfect sense that she's not happy right now.
(Side note: I think the Yang Curse Count is up to 3? all under extreme emotional duress. Still not on board with fanworks that portray her as swearing like a sailor. She'd be a better example for her little sister, I guarantee it)
"If you thought we wouldn't come for you, then you must have forgotten who raised me" Ruby what the fuck are you talking about? Were you just going to yeet yourself into the void if you'd won the battle? There was no possible reason for them to think Yang is even alive. They don't know they're the protagonists of a web cartoon. They don't know they have plot armor. To them, Yang was fucking dead. What could following her on purpose even have accomplished besides introducing them to whatever's at the bottom of the abyss at terminal velocity?
That said, I do like the acknowledgement that Yang raised Ruby. That's very important to both characters and I'm really glad someone finally said it out loud. Maybe this'll finally put the "Yang is a bad sister" allegations to rest (jk the people who believe that could be confronted with all the evidence in the world and it wouldn't change a thing).
The Bumbleby reunion feels kinda weird, I was expecting a bit more than a tackle-hug, but it's sweet overall and I at least dislike it less than the rest of the episode. I took a screenshot here for the sake of making a stupid meme but I don't like this show enough to post it anymore.
Would be real nice to know how Yang got from where she started to where she is now and I think we’ll see some of that, but given how rushed the reunion feels, I’m not confident.
Love the way Yang thinks she’s dead and is still ready to throw hands, really shows us who she is and that she can’t be broken. Truly the Woman Of All Time.
Would be interesting to explore the ramifications of this but I honestly doubt we will.
Weiss is still the one most visibly affected by the battle on Rainbow Road, I like the way this has been very consistently a point of emotional turmoil for her over the course of this episode. Would love to see that continue throughout the rest of the Volume.
Ruby's fainting is interesting. It's nice to see her have an actual emotional response now and just kind of shut down. I've seen debate about whether her team cared for her properly. Some people say that the team did what they should have and put her in the recovery position, but I think they're missing the point a bit. Even assuming I trust the writers to know what should be done for someone who faints (which I don't), that isn't knowledge the general audience can reasonably be assumed to have, so they needed to find a more obvious way to convey that WBY were concerned about Ruby and took steps to make her safe and comfortable. Either have a scene somewhere earlier in the show (maybe back at Beacon, or somewhere in Volume 7) where the team learns first aid or convey the fact that they're taking care of Ruby more effectively.
Notably, it’s Yang who’s right next to her and who shows concern - she immediately asks if Ruby's all right once Ruby starts speaking. Bad sister tho amirite?
Doesn't really help that they start discussing the situation before Ruby wakes up. I can see why people say WBY don't care about her or her input here, but I think this is just clunky pacing more than anything. The fact that the conversation continues while Ruby’s asleep means we don’t see how anyone else reacts to Penny’s death or the events in the liminal zone, which is kind of annoying. This is starting to feel like another "only one character gets to react to things" event like we had with Pyrrha's death almost exclusively affecting Jaune.
Still hate Penny’s death but it seems the narrative wants us to believe that Penny made the right choice and there was no better option.
Like how Blake takes charge, this is a huge bit of development for her, though I worry that seeing Blake essentially usurp her role is going to hurt Ruby when she's already fragile. NGL when I saw that sunbeam hit Blake I thought they'd fucked up the lighting lol.
Blake saying she thinks we’re in a fairy tale would hit better if the Ever After wasn’t based on an Earth fairy tale and also if we knew more about Remnant’s fairy tales. Yes, the spinoff thing exists, but I don’t want to have to do fucking homework to understand a fundamental aspect of the show.
(I've actually heard that this fairy tale isn't even in the fucking spinoff, which means it got introduced last Volume with like 1 fucking conversation that told us nothing useful. This isn't setup, MKEK. Build this element into the story properly if you want to use it, especially if this Volume was supposedly "planned from the beginning" or whatever the fuck.)
OP is mediocre by RWBY standards which means it's decent but not particularly good by other standards. Say what you will about this series, but the music always slaps.
Overall this episode kind of sucks and in fact made me not want to watch the rest of the Volume until I got fed up with seeing spoilers I had no context for on my dash. This is the first time I can remember that I've watched a RWBY season premiere and not wanted more. That's how bad it was. Can't believe we waited two years for this.
Overall rating: ASS/10

hunxi my friend hunxi DYING to know what you thought of 《无双》 and the way it elevated what 《千秋》 thought of women who ran rampant in the jianghu. it is so very dear to my heart. also do you think that they'll live past yang guang's reign are they pigheaded enough 😂😞🤔
ANON and here I thought no one noticed my sneaky updates to my to-read list/currently-reading post but you caught me, I might've read 《无双》 over the past few weeks, I just haven't gotten around to uploading a few Choice Quotes from my phone yet
but YES, let's talk about who runs the world jianghu in 《无双》!
I think one thing that really struck me reading 《无双》 was that only five years had gone by since the events of 《千秋》, but all under heaven has changed so much. I mean, obviously there's the new Sui Dynasty in power but like... the shape of the jianghu has shifted and I don't recognize anyone in it anymore. okay fine I'll admit it, I miss 《千秋》 a lot okay
I think the exponential increase in female characters in 《无双》 is, wildly, directly caused by 《千秋》 itself, and I'm not just referring to the fact that Bai Rong was a hit with the readers (to the point where many readers were shipping qiaorong rather than yanshen and Meng Xishi was like "thank you all for your support for Bai Rong, however this is a danmei novel, so don't get too attached to that ship" for which I will never stop laughing, have you ever seen the central ship in a novel get upstaged by a het ship take that sao lao Yan—), but also to the fact that, well, the events of 《千秋》 resulted in a lot of toxic men getting wiped out of the jianghu, and I'm sure Bai Rong's ensuing leadership of Hehuan Zong can only carve out a better place for women in the jianghu regardless of their origins or cultivation paths
but I also think the shift in the setting from 《千秋》 to 《无双》, from jianghu to courtly politics, is also quite significant — "behind every powerful man is an even more powerful woman" suddenly becomes very applicable here because there are now more families involved with the central thread of the plot, particularly royal ones. and so we have ambassadorial figures like Jin Lian, conspiratorial figures like Bing Xian and Qin Miaoyu, and the (gestures frantically) everything of the women of the Yang/Yuwen family, which got messy rip ladies Yuwen
if the archetypal figure of the jianghu is 云游侠客, the wandering xia hero, free of obligation or family ties or roots in a singular place, then the archetypal figure of courtly politics may well be the scheming of spymasters and strategists, and there's nothing to say that the person hiding their knowing smile behind a demure sip of tea can only be of one gender or another, and so we see the emergence of so many more lovingly crafted female characters in 《无双》, particularly well-connected ones who grow up with an awareness and a deftness for leaning on their relationships, just so, to effect the change that will further their personal agendas in these opening years of a new dynasty
ALSO. also. can we talk about the fact that Meng Xishi strongly implied trans Qiao Xian because I swear my jaw dropped when I read that. the exchange between her and Zhangsun Puti... iconic:
(paraphrased for comedic effect and because I can't be bothered to look it up asdlkafjs) Zhangsun Puti: wait, are you male or female? Qiao Xian: (side-eyes him) aren't you a Buddhist monk? Shouldn't you understand that gender is but a manifestation of the material illusions of the profane world, and doesn't actually matter in the eyes of the Buddha? Zhangsun Puti: damn, you right, forget I asked
anyway. (gestures) love everything going on with her, yes I do realize she does at some point betray Cui Buqu, no that does not reduce my love one bit

5 MUSE THEME SONGS
When you get this, list theme songs for your muse and why (i.e. explanation, lyrics). Tagged by @jocundcompany, thank you!
I'm gonna kiiind of cheat since I just did a 5 songs meme yesterday, and listed some of the major Svern vibe songs there. So I'm going to take the chance to talk more about 4 of those and then swap out the last one for something else. Under readmore since it gets a bit long.
"NO ONE LIVES FOREVER" by Oingo Boingo
I once said this is the Svernest song to have songed. Because it is.
The sound? Chaotic and offputting. The tone? Snarky, carefree in a nihilistic way. The lyrics themselves? Svern's code for living, presented in four minutes. There's a reason why I use this song as the title for his blog.
Everything's temporary, and nothing matters half as much as you think it does. You don't know when you're gonna die, either, so you may as well muck around and have fun while you're still alive! Some of the words might seem free, but it never lets you forget that there is an inescapable end (and this isn't something that you can, or should bother trying to flee from).
Plus I want to use these lyrics when I make him a promo one day:
I'm so happy, dancing while the grim reaper cuts, cuts, cuts... But he can't get me! I'm as clever as can be, and I'm very quick But don't forget, we've only got so many tricks... No one lives forever!
"CATCH ME IF YOU CAN" by Set It Off
It's self-explanatory babey!!! This is literally his in-character tag!!!
This song is all about running, being too fast to catch, living on the edge and being unapologetic about it. It's a taunt, too. Other people can't keep up with him and he doesn't care! Go ahead and try to catch him, he's always going to be a step ahead of you. He doesn't give a crap. This one is the fun Svern "main theme" instead of the existential one.
I already posted the chorus lyrics, so...
I pull out every trick, I don't regret a thing, no You're running after me, chasing apologies When you can't get a grip I paved my path somewhere hard to follow Outplayed, outclassed, I said...
(Catch me if you can!)
"BE AFRAID OF WHO YOU ARE" by Euringer
A song about Kids With Issues. Pretty straightforward. (Can you identify which lines I used for tags and blog theme cameos...)
For a while I wasn't totally sold on the aggression in some of the lyrics, but after getting more sure in his character... yeah, it's fine. The general sound is again, kinda edgy and unhinged, which is always a win. There's something not right with you, isn't there? Something that makes you dangerous?
Svern says, yeah, there is. And you better watch out! This is a song for the side of him born from others' treatment of him for being flawed.
Now, off like a prom dress Live in the moment Embrace the darkness
Now, king of the misfits Lines on the mirror Off in the distance
"MISERY LOVES COMPANY" by Emilie Autumn
This is actually pretty new on the list. The original topic of the song isn't really applicable but you know how it is with making character playlists, you need to stretch things sometimes.
The tone is aggressive, unapologetic, and resentful. It sums up Svern's inner feelings toward most people pretty well. He doesn't like them.
He's with others on a regular basis, both because he has to be and because being around them gives him something (fills the void a bit)... but that doesn't mean he feels positively toward them, no, not at all. At all times he maintains a mistrustful, jaded distance inside himself.
Shoutout to these two sections in particular:
You're so easy to read, but the book is boring me You're so easy to read, but the book is boring me You're so easy to read, but the book is boring, boring, boring...
Pray for me if you want to, pray for me if you care Pray for me if you want to, pray for me if you dare
"DREAM STATE" by Son Lux
Finally, the song that I chose to represent Svern's alt verse.
This song is about change. It opens with being impervious and invincible, goes through uncertainty and turbulence, and ends on a similar but different note with reminiscing about how things were in the beginning. Those days are gone; through everything that's happened, you've changed.
In the alternate verse, a catalyst sends Svern off the road he would otherwise, ordinarily, have gone down. He suffers a loss, experiences grief and confusion that he doesn't in his main verse, that he's never dealt with before, something he doesn't know how to handle, and the actions spurred by that change the course of everything else. The song's energy is driven, thoughtful and reaching, mirroring his mental and emotional journey.
And of course, the lyric I chose to use for the verse tag itself...
Out of the dark day, into the brighter night...
Love that light/dark theme. Not only is it aesthetically fitting, it also alludes to things diverging from their original course. It's not without suffering, but he ends up healthier here than if he'd continued on his original road.

they deleted their ocs but i have reblogs of them and screenshots of all posts (not reblogs they are just genshin fanart from popular artists) https://tamos-reblog-account.tumblr.com/ admittedly she isnt as bad yet this time self hate minorly sinophobic (it was pretty sneaky i almost didnt notice it) like why is it necessary to make your two black ocs with vitiligo hated by the people of liyue (nation based/inspired from china)specifically and then have both move to mondstadt (nation based/inspired from Germany...) her age was 15 this time lmao the way she has the trans flag all over but doesnt include trans in her bio is... sus? furthers my belief shes faking. well i mean... ofc she is she does it all the time. with every blog. they would have been fine if not for that like i was just scrolling the genshin tag and saw the character card for delilah and thought she was the cutest fucking thing. (im a sucker for vitiligo im sorry) was bored as FUCK tho so i didnt bother to read her stuff but then a few posts down i saw mila and thought oh hey shes similar to delilah so i decided to check out the blog when i tell you my heart dropped and then started RACING i saw the behavior and "hate asks" i looked at the pfp i read the ocs texts im loosing my fucking mind THE REST OF THE STUFF ABOUT HER OCS WAS ACTUALLY DECENT FOR ONCE BUT SHE /RUINED/ IT
they did some stuff with twst but i'll leave that to yall to discuss its just another copy of mulan and tiana
she never changes *sigh*
Hello!! Terribly sorry to everyone for the prolonged radio silence :sobsob: I work full time these days and can't keep as vigilant a watch as I used to, but I have time this morning, so I want to update everyone.
I'm using Tamo's ask as a jumping off point, both to say thank you to them for making the official callout post for Jordan/Ray's newest blog, cutemermaidprincess (now deactivated), and to talk about a couple of things that I'll get to in a moment.
To start, I believe you and I had the same idea. I was mainly leaving her alone to see what she would do this time around. I had no doubts that the blog was her yet again, but I didn't want to start something without having proof and end up throwing some poor rando under the freight train. (Sidenote: one of my mutuals recently had something like that happen to them, being falsely accused of something pretty heinous by a callout account and it scared the life out of them. I didn't want to be the cause of something like that.)
But, now that this blog is gone, I think I can start talking again. Here are the screenshots I took before it went down:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In regard to everyone who sent in asks with this blog's username, thank you! I appreciate what you are trying to do, but please understand that I didn't answer anybody publicly because I have a sort of method to approach this person's habits with. I cannot, in good conscience, take speculation as evidence of a new Ray account, but now that I have the screenshots and the blog is deleted, we can safely assume that it was her again.
While I wasn't crazy about the idea of letting her go after seeing her post the OCs, I was content to just leave her alone to do her thing if she didn't start trouble again, because there's no realistic chance of getting an apology out of her. But she ruined it for herself again, as Tamo said. I only skimmed the chara bios so I didn't catch the Sinophobia this time, I suppose I've gotten careless.
Also, it's extremely shitty of her to use a trait that many people have, vitiligo, as a jumping off point for her fake pity party. She's just adding to the list of reasons why she needs to be perma-banned with every iteration of her nonsense.
It's obvious it was her; I don't know what exactly she's hoping will happen. If she keeps posting in the tags, people will figure out who she is every time. She's better off just giving up at this point, she's made an enemy of nearly everyone in the TWST fandom and I don't think people care enough in Genshin to give her any attention.

꒰ メᵎᵎ ꒱ this is a nsfw + [heavy] dc blog. ppl who do not like dc—i do advise you to BLOCK EVERY TW/CW TAG you can think of. most common ones on my blog would be;
tw omegaverse / cw omegaverse
hybrids… etc. / cw hybrids… etc.
꒰ ✦ ꒱ INTERACT with my works/writings IF you’re going to spam like me. REBLOG OR COMMENT. it does not matter, do either one if ur gonna like 3+ posts in a row. if you like them enough to spam, spread it.

꒰ 𓂃ᵎᵎ ꒱ i don't support minors reading smut, please try to be discreet about it without letting me know if u do read it. minors can interact with me on this blog [I'd prefer it since it's my main], but if I catch u reading my hard-nsfw smuts then it's a block.
꒰ 𓂃ᵎᵎ ꒱ AGE IN BIO!!!!! PFPLESS + BLANK BLOGS = BLOCKED from now on. I'm not gonna sift through my followers but if you have no reblogs or posts despite being pfpless ill block u.

be RESPECTFUL and use kind words when interacting with one another.
i will have unhinged behavior so try to match the energy!!
do not break any of the blogs boundaries.
i’ll gladly accept — chats;thoughts;rambles;brain riots;suggestions;thirsts !!!
my ask box is open for VENTING/RANTING not trauma dumping. tell me abt your day and i’ll tell you mines :))!
꒰ ✦ ꒱ FOR MUTUALS; i would absolutely love to be moots with you! just know that i will unfollow/unmoot you if ive noticed that youve unfollowed me for a day or two. if you happen to think it's a glitch, please refollow so that i can do the same (will take a couple of hours for me to refollow).
if you want to be mooties, please send an ask via the ask box! i will check out your blog to see your interactions (if u have none i’ll assume ur nice) and see if you’re someone who isn’t rude or disrespectful. ꒰ ✦ ꒱ FOR ANONS; same goes for anons! i would absolutely love to chat with you guys <3 but if you wanna be held in the secrecy of this blog, go ahead and give yourself something to identify yourself with; ie. emojis, characters/letters, etc..!
your anon identity will be added to my mutuals/anons list as soon as i answer and confirm your ask.
your anon identity will be removed from my mutuals/anons list if you suddenly stop interacting with me out of the blue. the only reason why I'm doing this is to give others the chance to use the identity they like! however, if you've stated that you're going on hiatus or something, then i will not remove your anon identity.

꒰ メ ꒱ DNI if you fit the basic criteria: racist, homophobic, xenophobic, zionist (support israel & russia), transphobic, shota(loli)con lovers, sexist, minors who can't respect the spaces of adults (& vice versa), etc...
꒰ メ ꒱ you associate yourself with someone HEAVILY problematic. slightly problematic is fine, but not someone who literally everyone has beef with/hates with burning passion. listen, i couldn't give yall a double doggy style damn if you subpost abt people. i skim over the tags anyways, but i don't recommend doing it if you preach 'drama free blog'.
꒰ メ ꒱ HARD dni if ur the type to make callout posts—or you say/preach drama free blog/space and then have the audacity to make callout posts. sorry, i don't do drama, and will accept the block if i make you uncomfortable. want to tell me the reason why? my dms are open for a discussion, and ill be open to your reasons.
꒰ メ ꒱ HARD dni if u support/reblog posts that go against blogs like mine (yes i will unmutual you if i see you doing it). you can disagree with my views as long as you don't make/reblog posts abt it.
꒰ ✦ ꒱ i am severely guilty of ask hoarding unfortunately. it's mostly due to the fact i run out of social battery and don't wanna answer people dryly, so i wait until im able to answer people without sounding like i don't wanna talk to them <3
꒰ ✦ ꒱ LATE RESPONSES TO EVERYTHING: asks, comments, mentions, and i barely answer dms so i wouldn’t recommend communicating with me through there unless we’re close/it’s VV important. my core responsive time is: spontaneous.
꒰ ✦ ꒱ i shit post a lot, and i’m a hyper person by heart. so expect me to ABUSE the hell out of the emojis whenever we’re chatting <3 ask anyone who follows me, and they’ll tell you that you won’t need a tone indicator to know i’m joking around lmao. i’ll try to be a kaomoji girl on my sfw blog tho😭..
꒰ ✦ ꒱ i am a chronic ghoster :( it’s why i don’t recommend chatting w/me through dms as i have a VERY low social battery despite being text loud. only chat through dms if it’s serious, all casual chatter are to be through asks (unless i feel like answering your dm. remember, i am not obligated to answer even if it seems rude).
꒰ 𓂃ᵎᵎ ꒱ MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES : my mental health is in a huge decline (when isn't it?). i WILL do/say something impulsive and bounce back like nothing has happened. this behavior has been something that concerned me when i was younger, but i didnt/dont have the money to check it out. be warned. you're dealing with someone who's;
emotionally unstable/overly emotional.
is really impulsive and do/posts things that'll make me regret it later.
craves validation and attention.
gets envious over things easily (nothing personal abt you, just a me thing).

( 𝐖𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐑𝐔𝐋𝐄𝐒 🗒️. )
꒰ メ ꒱ NO REQUESTS. i’ve stopped taking requests simply bc i’m busy and get too overwhelmed. i’m not someone who easily commits to their projects/fics so expect a lot of drafted abandoned ones. i 100% take suggestions/thirsts/brain riots/thoughts abt something u wanna talk abt!
꒰ ✦ ꒱ send all your suggestions and rambles via the ASK BOX. not through my dms please <3.
꒰ ✦ ꒱ NO CONSISTENT SCHEDULE. i’m a sporadic writer—write and post so irregularly, i might not post for days or even weeks on end.
꒰ ✦ ꒱ AUTOMATIC FEM/AFAB if the readers gender isn’t specified in your ask. im a female, born a female, so i will write whatever feel’s most comfortable to write for me. ofc i also write for: male/amab readers, trans readers & gn/nb readers!
꒰ ✦ ꒱ i hate proofreading/editing my nsfw works, but I'll proofread/edit my sfw works :)
꒰ ✦ ꒱ i make constant grammar mistakes/errors simply bc i don’t check or proofread/edit my shit.
꒰ ✦ ꒱ i write mostly abt/for chuuya (and dazai). i’m literally a chuuya centric blog atp, with a drizzle of dazai and sprinkles of other charas.
꒰ 𓂃ᵎᵎ ꒱ this blog will consist of the dirtiest smut ever. short and of multiple charas of my choice <3
WILL NOT WRITE: scat, snowball play, raceplay, watersports, piss kink, pegging (JUST NO. ok.) loli/shotacon, minor + adult (pedophilia is fucking weirder than weird..) wound fucking or anything like it (probably will write it for april fools day though).
WILL WRITE: pretty much everything else <3 (genders, kinks, and all!)

7 and 20 for the ask :)
7: what are you most proud of?
when it comes to wips in general (because every longform fic of mine is an au) i'm always proud of my world building. i put So much seemingly unnecessary effort into getting the vibe of the setting, making sure very minor historical details are correct, and planning characters personal histories that almost never actually pop up in the main writing, but it is necessary because it makes everything about the fic that much richer
20: post a brief excerpt
“Just leave me the fuck alone,” Walt growled before he got up, lunch tray in hand and dumped the rest of his meal in the trash; he wasn’t in the mood for much of anything, including the cardboard the school claimed to be pizza.
“Damn, prison’s really changed him,” Walt heard Ray sigh dramatically just before he exited the cafeteria.
He still had half of his lunch period to kill before his next class and it was only a matter of time before some bored admin strolling the halls asked for his hall pass- fuck it, might as well add some school trouble to the ever growing list of infractions-
“Walt,” a familiar voice called from behind him; when Walt didn’t break his pace he heard the heavy footsteps of someone much larger grow closer and closer until they were in step with him. “Hey.”
“Hey, Brad,” Walt sighed as he glanced up at the much taller man out of the corner of his eye and found him looking just as stoic as ever. “No offense but I’m not really in the mood.”
“I figured,” Brad responded. “Heard about last night.”
Walt didn’t comment but didn’t try to shake Brad off either; the guy usually wasn’t much for chatting so he either had something to say or he’d be done soon enough. It probably wouldn’t be worth the effort and he’d feel like an asshole about it later if he was purposely a dick to him.
“Gonna give me shit for letting Ray talk me into his bullshit?”
“No. It could have been any other idiot in this backwater town busting into that house last night; just shitty luck that it was you,” Brad said easily before he offered him a half-smile- an insignificant gesture from a regular person but from Brad, Walt knew he was genuinely attempting to offer him some sort sympathy. “So, are they waiting until after school to assemble the firing squad?”
“Sorta. Andy just said we’d talk about it tonight,” he answered with a shrug of his shoulders as he slowed to a stop in the middle of the empty hallway. “I heard him talking to Sobel on the phone this morning but it didn’t sound like they were agreeing on anything, so I dunno.”
“Maybe you can ease your sentence by throwing Person under the bus,” Brad suggested, causing Walt to roll his eyes; Brad was so full of shit.
“Yeah, okay, I’ll throw Ray under the same day you do,” Walt countered as he squared his shoulders and met the taller boy’s icey blue eyes.
There was no easy way to explain the how or why but Ray Person had wormed his way under both of their skins years ago; it would take a lot to rid them of that particular pest now after everything that they had been through together.
“Where’re you going anyway?” Brad asked, changing the subject.
“Wasn’t in the mood for Ray’s theatrics at lunch so I’m killing time. What about you? Skipping study hall?”
“Volunteered to be Ms. Keller’s aid; I had to run to the printers for her,” he responded before he held up the stack of papers Walt hadn’t noticed him holding in his right hand. “But you should get your ass moving. I know Jones is out walking the halls and I’m sure he wouldn’t be opposed to writing you up for wondering without a pass.”
“He’s such a kissass,” Walt huffed before his brain started to file through places he could hide; he could slip into the art room and bother Christeson and Q-tip, even if he was still kinda pissed at them. They at the very least owed him enough to cover for him for the rest of the class period.
“You have Grogen next right? Just go sit in her class early; Ms. Keller told me she would be in the teacher’s lounge with her if I had any questions about the shit work she gave me, I doubt she’ll be in a rush to go anywhere.”
“Thanks,” Walt nodded before he turned on his heel and headed in the other direction.

غُدْرَت
ɢod̪ˈɾæt̪ʰ ( n. ) power.
Tumblr media
padishah ganondorf dragmire of the legend of zelda franchise. with heavy historical influence and plenty of original worldbuilding and vaguely tears of the kingdom adjacent but a little to the left (as in, actually strung together coherently)
by knight (he/him). mutuals only!
affiliated with [ . . . ] @salesduo ╱ @perditos ╱ tba
legend (tba). verses (tba). rules under readmore!
Tumblr media
𝐨𝐧𝐞. #GODRAET is an independent, private, highly selective and mutuals exclusive writing blog for ganondorf dragmire of the legend of zelda franchise. its my sacred duty now to rewrite TotK and also cherrypick from every other iteration so i am doing just that!
this blog is 18+. please do not follow me if you are under 18!
on this note, this blog will feature dark and triggering themes. gan's entire story is a whole mess and he chooses violence very often! i will make sure to tag these things with the format of #trigger so that they can be filtered out!
𝐭𝐰𝐨. shipping is not the priority here- but for reference, gan likes women or fem-leaning individuals; in general what he likes is femme because he associates femme with familiarity and also strength, for real what else would anyone expect.
if shipping happens, it will require a LOT of plotting and will not be with any mun or muse under the age of 21.
i am very open to other sorts of bonds, though! because it isn't just romance when people talk about ships- i am open to seeing how things go nonetheless!
i should also note that i will accept mains and exclusives!
𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞. please DO tag #trypophobia for me, it makes my brain do big bad.
𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫. i am known for writing metas across the blogs i have. in the wise words of a friend:
Tumblr media
with this in mind, the metas i write are portrayal specific to this blog, so please give them a read! i know i can be rather wordy- anyone who has followed me elsewhere may know this, but for my first time followers, worldbuilding is one of my favorite things to do. i am particularly fond of analysis of character psychology.
𝐟𝐢𝐯𝐞. to the point above, i do have other blogs! you may know me from @godstrain, my wesker blog. anyway, having other blogs makes me busy, and also i have a rather hectic job-
and by this, i mean i work 32-40 hours as a registered nurse in an inpatient psychiatric unit. i am busy, i am tired, and i can't keep letting my focus go all over the place. inevitably, it still may do that because i have a tendency to be scattered, so if i don't get to something immediately, it isn't you, it's me!
also related to that, i do love communication! i struggle with reading the room (it's the Autism tm) and so if something's up or if you're bothered, please be direct with me! i will not take offense, i quite appreciate feedback so that i can be better as a person! in return, i will communicate back! i am learning to curate my space (after 10+ years of being on tumblr).
𝐬𝐢𝐱. there are people i won't interact with due to various reasons- my dni list is on the carrd of my other blogs. i won't interact with genderbent versions of characters, people who are Real Life Individuals (not counting fictional depictions like in the typemoon franchise or whatnot because those really have nothing to do with the actual individual they're supposedly based on?).
please stay far away from me if you fall under the following categories (i'm censoring things because god knows tumblr just picks shit up idk): proshipping, writing inc*st, p*dophilia, r*pe/n*ncon, are transphobic/homophobic- the usual gross behavior! use your moral compass!
on top of that, i am a firm believer that we learn from the media around us. full censorship is just as dangerous as the aforementioned things- the world isn't all sunshine and rainbows! please refer to this post which essentially summarizes the gist of what i'm trying to explain.
𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧. anyway, hello, i'm knight. i am 30+ and use he/him pronouns exclusively! i am a hobby artist (it's my side-gig from nursing) and sometimes i post my art, tagged #whats my art tag considering i constantly forget my art tag if it's fancy. please do not repost my art without my permission.
mutuals, feel free to ask me for my discord, since i am much easier to reach there!
i look forward to writing with you!

hi my name is Bunny im 23 and every character im dating has a high danger level to them.
im a straight cis chick going by she/her and ive actually been in the self-ship/f/o scene for an extremely long time but made this blog in july 2021 to finally interact with the community.
this blog is also gonna be where i put n.s,f?w stuff since i’ll be more comfortable doing it here than on my main. but this is NOT an nsfw only blog. there are posts on here that are minor safe.
but please do NOT follow me:
without reading my carrd
if youre under 18. and if you REALLY wanna still interact, please only have it be on the minor safe posts
if l/e/w/d or suggestive stuff is something that could bother or harm you, although you can always block the tag for it, which is below this list. sexual content is not the main focus of this blog, so it wont all be that.
ESPECIALLY if you dislike kinks about blood, cutting, knives, wounds, bleeding, bites, body mutilation or pain during sex in general. i will at some point add a tag for posts with this content specifically. also no, i dont support doing this stuff irl, because im very aware that it could kill people. and no, i'm not into anything non-con. all my scenarios are 100% consensual.
if you dislike any of my f/os and are just gonna be talking trash about them, especially while talking to me 1 on 1. really only one of my f/os is a lil iffy but i headcanon that they get help so its fine.
if you selfship with irl people, including KPOP idols, MCYT "characters", or anything similar.
if youre proship, self-ships an abusive/incest/pedo/non-canon aged up/non-consensual/forced relationship. dont like it, dont want it near me. please respect that.

“We both went to the London premiere but not together. We weren’t engaged and there was no reason to sort of show off to the world." USA Today November 18, 2014.
I'd like the Nannies to express their opinion about this please. With the full understanding that no person or persons on this side of the computer can control, sway or change Ben's mind or heart. That's not the point. The point is to understand what you believe is the psychological reasoning behind the decision to use that phrasing with his pregnant, soon to be fiancé and soon to be wife and soon to be mother of his child. According to People magazine and the Daily Mail, and those, including nannies, who said they have seen a Birth Certificate, Christopher Carlton Cumberbatch was born on June 1st.  Dislike it all you want, having a birthday makes it possible, and given human nature, likely that people will speculate on the date of conception, especially considering the facts, including the timing with regards to the Oscars and the shotgun* nature of the wedding. If it was a full term no problem pregnancy, 40 weeks, not under or over due, she was 2 and a half months pregnant when the above statement was made.
This story you nannies have built up, that Ben and Sophie have a true perfect love forever, that they never fight, how do you reconcile that with the whole unvarnished truth? Unless Sophie was totally gormless, she must have known she was pregnant. If Ben was dating her and truly in love, he would have known she was pregnant. They married three months later. He was in true love with the women he married, the woman he proposed to, whom he didn't mention by her name in interviews, and didn't want to walk down the red carpet to his movie premiere with the woman making his dreams come true, his dreams of being a father.
Now you are going to yell about things like privacy. That what he said was meant to protect Sophie and hide the pregnancy. I think anyone who is at all skeptical could answer that one. No one eager for privacy about their personal life talks to reporters, USA Today, or People magazine at all, let alone does a wedding dress spread in Vogue. I'm surprised it was in the print edition, and not the digital only. After all, maternity bridal gowns aren't really "en vogue". The long and short of it is that photo spread was well positioned and they managed to photograph her to look like she wasn't 5 1/2 months pregnant, perhaps to make that style of gown more in demand. Shotgun weddings tend to favor empire waists and lots of flounce to disguise the bump.
Now, I know the next question from the peanut gallery will be, why bring this up? They have stayed together, have two more kids together and it has been x and whatever years.
Here are several responses. Pick one or more in any combination.
1. Our feelings don't have to be right to be valid.
2. You have the option to object to our perfectly valid emotional reaction.
3. We have a right to block you from our page. You also have this right.
4. If you object to our opinions, you do not have to read our blogs or interact with us in anyway. If you are constantly feeling harassed because you see content from skeptics, BLOCK THEM, don't blame them! If the worker at Sea World handed you a poncho to protect yourself and you didn't use it, you can't blame the Shamu if you get splashed.(Sorry for the outdated and insensitive analogy but I wanted something easy to understand. I disagree whole hearted with the captivity of intelligent creatures be they aquatic or terrestrial mammals.)
5. We are valid in our own right as people. If you attack us on a personal level, we will defend ourselves and we have the right to do so.
6. As long as we do not interact with anyone,(i.e. Ben, Sophie, Karon, his management, etc) we can say whatever we want on our own blogs. The majority of us have never met him and don't want to. As far as we are concerned, Ben is an imaginary person that we are writing as a character for a long running D&D campaign.
7. However, the same does not apply to you. Many of you have gone out of your way to meet him. You believe that by sending hate to skeptics or doxxing them you will earn validation from him. I worry that some of you are on the brink and if he doesn't acknowledge you one time, or does something that you can't justify with your world view, one of you will snap. You think this about us, I know. But the nannies on the whole have much more emotional investment in Ben's personal life. (As a for instance, The skeptics call him Ben because at least one nanny has said that, "we don't know that he prefers that nickname so we should use his full name" another said "nicknames are for close friends and family and we aren't those, so we should call him by his full name or Mr. Cumberbatch." If Ben even has two thoughts about any skeptic or nanny(especially how they address him in blog posts) for the entire year I'd be surprised. Unless, of course, it when he has to think about you lot bothering him, stalking him, and generally making a nuisance of yourselves.
******
I also know you complain that the skeptics don't "love" Ben in every thing he does and don't always watch all his work. The gatekeeping within the fandom, not include how you discount and loathe the skeptics, is extreme. Fans must be all or nothing.
1. Not everyone has the money to participate fully, whether that is buying movies, theater tickets, merchandise or going to conventions to hear him speak. Disregarding fans based on their ability to participate, especially due to financial inability, is gatekeeping and it is the worst kind of gatekeeping. You are saying the only good fans are rich ones.
2. Generally the nannies viewpoint is Eurocentric as well. Some people have jobs, have children to raise, have other things that take priority over "being a fan". Being a fan requires time that poorer countries, less developed countries generally lack. Some countries censor the movies that are shown. Doctor Strange was not shown in the East the way it was in the west and unless you can afford to travel to another location,(Say the London Premiere that didn't quite happen and the nannies were upset because he didn't preform like a good little monkey in a suit for them?) you are made to feel left out by the uber fans.
3. Some people have emotional triggers. Ben's roles tend more towards the dramatic then comedic. Drama can deeply affect those who have experienced similar situations. He has been in movies dealing with Cancer, Childhood Abuse, Incest, Slavery, War, Pedophilia, have I missed any major triggers?
4. He is also in the MCU and the Hobbit movies which have flashing lights which makes them inaccessible to those who have seizures and migraines. Another oft used gatekeeping tactic in fandoms is the restriction of accessibility. In the US, there are compliancy laws for disabilities(although they aren't always obeyed) but smaller, poorer countries may not have accessible movie theaters. Fans with disabilities can not travel as easily as more abled fans. Smaller independent films Benedict made at the beginning of his career may not have captions or audio description or may be unafforable for those that have medical costs to consider.
5. There is also gender bias in the Cumberbatch fandom. One need only look at their chosen name, Cumberbitches. I can think of 15 more gender neutral terms off the top of my head but men and those who identify as male were inherently excluded from the fandom. I can think of ONE male fan. Maybe one that writes under his wife's account as to not get ridiculed. Because they would be ridiculed by the nannies, that is who they are, the "gatekeepers of the fandom", deciding who is worthy to be a Ben fan.
They have made fun of fans before. Not just skeptics. People they don't like or don't want in their little clique. So the majority of Ben's fans are middle aged rich white women. Not because that's who he's trying to reach as an audience but because that is who his uber fans allow to worship him.
If you are in need of examples of how out of control the uber fans are take the following for an example.
Someone did a nice tweet about other actors. It had nothing to do with Ben, although it did feature Tom Hiddleston and other Marvel actors. The ubers starting by saying Ben wasn't listed, then jumped into, well, a screenshot is worth a thousand words.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As they say, that escalated quickly...

*Shotgun Wedding is an American term for a marriage precipitated by the pregnancy. It comes from an American colloquialism, termed as such based on a stereotypical scenario in which the father of the pregnant bride-to-be threatens the reluctant groom with a shotgun in order to ensure that he follows through with the wedding.

Hey, d'you have any French book recs? I'm trying to work on my French, and rn I have downloaded one of my favourite book series' French translations, but I figured maybe books already written in French might work better? Also have you read the Ranger's Apprentice series? 1/2
RA's def flawed - the books' narration does like to point bright arrows at the protagonists' intelligence, and the last few books def have the tone of 'old white man trying to write feminism', although at least he's trying? - and it's aimed more to the younger side of YA, but it is still a very fun series, and I can ignore the flaws fairly easily, at least partly due to nostalgia? This rather long lol but I'm wordy.
I'll start with the second question: no, although every time the series is brought up I have to check the French title and go "oh, right, I've seen these books in stores". But I've never purchased or read them. It sounds like something I probably would have enjoyed as a teen but I just missed the mark, and these days I'm trying to drown myself in queer books, so that probably isn't happening.
As for your first question, geez, I haven’t read a French book in years, so this is gonna skew middle grade/YA, though that may not be so bad if the point is to learn the language. I will also say that as a result, these may read a little outdated.
I'll put it under a cut, even if Tumblr has become really bad with correctly displaying read mores. Sorry, mobile crowd.
It's also likely that old readers of the blog will have seen me talk about most of these. I don't feel like going through old posts.
One last thing: while I was curating this list I took the time to make a Goodreads shelf to keep track of those.
The Ewilan books by Pierre Bottero
Tumblr media
(It's a testament to how long ago I read these books that these are not the covers of the edition I own, and I can't even find those on Google. I'm settling for a more recent cover anyway since it'll make it easier to find them, presumably)
There are at least three trilogies (that I know of) set in the same world.
The first trilogy is essentially an isekai (so, French girl lands in parallel fantasy world by accident) with elements of chosen one trope, though I find the execution makes it worth the while anyway.
The second trilogy is a direct sequel, so same protagonist but new threat, and the world gets expanded.
The third one is centered around a supporting characters from the previous books, and the first couple of books in it are more her backstory than a continuation, though the third one concludes both that trilogy and advances the story of the other books as well.
Notably these books have a really fun magic system where the characters "draw" things into existence. It's just stuck with me for some reason.
A bunch of stuff by Erik L'Homme
I have read a lot of this man's books, starting with Le Livre des Etoiles.
Tumblr media
They also skew towards the young end of YA, arguably middle grade, I never bothered to figure out where to draw the line. They're coincidentally also using the premise of a parallel world to our own (and yes, connected to France again, the French are just as susceptible of writing about their homeland), but interestingly are set from the point of view of characters native to the parallel world.
It also has a very unique magic system, this one based on a mix of a runic alphabet and sort-of poetry. I'll also say specifically for these books that the characters stuck with me way more than others on this list, which is worth mentioning.
This trilogy is my favorite by Erik L'Homme, but I'll also mention Les Maîtres des brisants, which is a fantasy space opera with a pirate steampunk(?) vibe. I think it's steampunk. I could be mistaken. But it's in that vein. It's also middle grade, in my opinion not as good, but it could just be that it came out when I was older.
Another one is Phaenomen, which was a deliberate attempt at skewing older (though still YA). This one is set in our (then-)modern world and centers a group of teens who happen to have supernatural powers. I guess the best way to describe it is a superhero thriller? If you take "superhero" in the sense of "people with individualized powers", since they don't really do a lot of heroing.
...I really need to brush up on genre terminology, don't I.
The Ji series by Pierre Grimbert
Tumblr media
This one is actually adult fantasy, though it definitely falls under "probably outdated". It is very straight, for starters, and I'd have to give it another read to give a more critical reading of how it handles race (it attempts to do it, and is well meaning, but I'm not sure it survives the test of time & scrutiny, basically).
If I haven't lost you already, the premise is this: a few generations ago, a weird man named Nol gathered emissaries from each nation of the world and took them to a trip to the titular Ji island. Nobody knows what went down here, but now in the present day, someone is trying to kill off all descendants from those emissaries, who are as a result forced to team up and figure out what's going on.
I'm not going to spoil past that, though I will say it has (surprise) a really unique magic system! I guess you can start to piece together what my younger self was interested in. Which, admittedly, I still am.
Once again, this one also has a strong cast of characters, helped by rich world building and the premise forcing the characters to come from many different cultures (though, again, I can't vouch for the handling of race because it's been too long).
The first series is complete by itself, though it has two sequel series as well, each focusing on the next generation in these families. Because yes, of course they all pair up and have kids. Like I said: very straight.
A whole lot of books by Jean-Louis Fetjaine
Tumblr media
OFetjaine is a historian, and I guess he's really interested in Arthurian mythos especially, because he loves it so much he's written two separate high fantasy retellings of them! I'm not criticizing, mind you, we all need a hobby.
The former, the Elves trilogy (pictures above) is very traditional high fantasy. Elves, dwarves, orcs, a world which is definitely fictionalized with a pan-Celtic vibe to it. The holy grail and excalibur are around, but they're relics possessed by the elves and dwarves with very different powers than usual. Et cetera.
Fetjaine also really loves his elves (as the titles might imply), and while they're not exactly Tolkien elves, there's a similar vibe to them. If you like Tolkien and his elf boner, you'll probably like this too. And conversely, if that turns you off, these books probably also won't work for you.
This series also has a prequel trilogy, centered around the backstory of one of the main characters. I...honestly don't remember too much about it, but I liked it, so, there you go, I guess.
I said Fetjaine did it twice. The other series is the Merlin duology, which, as the title implies, is a retelling of Merlin's story. Note that Merlin is also in the other trilogy, but it's a different Merlin; like I said, completely different continuities and stories.
This one is historical fantasy, so it's set in actual Great Britain, and Fetjaine attempts to connect Arthur to a "real" historical figure...but, you know, Merlin is also half-elf and elves totally exist in Brocéliande, so, you know. History.
Okay, that's probably enough fantasy, let me give some classics too.
L'Arbre des possibles et autres histoires - Bernard Werber
Tumblr media
Bernard Werber is a pretty seminal author of French sci-fi and I should probably be embarrassed that the only book of his that I read was for school, but, it is a really good one, so I'll include it anyway.
It's a novella collection, and when I say "sci-fi" I want to make it clear that it's very old school science fiction. It's more Frankenstein or Black Mirror than Star Trek, what we in French call the anticipation genre of science fiction: you take one piece of technology or cultural norm and project it into the future.
It has a pretty wide range of topics and tones, so it's bound to have some better than others. My personal faves were Du pain et des jeux, where football (non-American) has evolved into basically a wargame, and Tel maître, tel lion, where any animal is considered acceptable as a pet, no matter how absurd it is to keep as a pet. They're both on a comedic end, but there's more heartfelt stuff too.
L'Ecume des Jours - Boris Vian
(no cover because I can't find the one I have, and the ones I find are ugly)
This book is surrealist. Like, literally a part of the surrealist movement. It features things such as a lilypad growing inside a woman's lungs (and, as you well know, lilypads double in size every day, wink wink), the protagonist's apartment becoming larger and smaller to go with his mood and current financial situation, and more that I can't even recall at the moment because remembering this book is like trying to remember having an aneurysm.
It is also really, really fun and touching. Oh, and it has a pretty solid movie adaptation, starring Audrey Tautou, who I think an international audience would probably recognize from Amelie or the Da Vinci Code movie.
I don't really know what else to say. It's a really cool read!
Le Roi se meurt - Eugène Ionesco
Ionesco is somewhat famous worldwide so I wasn't even sure to include him here. He's a playwright who wrote in the "Theater of the Absurd" movement, and this play is part of that.
The premise of this play is that the King (of an unnamed land) is dying, and the land is dying with him. I don't really know what else to say. It's theater of the absurd. It kind of has to be experienced (the published version works fine, btw, no need to track down an actual performance, in my humble opinion).
The Plague - Albert Camus
You've probably heard of this one, and if you haven't, let me tell you about a guy called Carlos Maza
youtube
I'm honestly more including this book out of a sense of duty. The other three are books I genuinely liked and happen to be classics. This book was an awful read. But, um. It's kind of relevant now in a way it wasn't (or didn't feel, anyway) back in 2008 or 2009, when I read it. And I don't just mean because of our own plague, since Camus's plague is pretty famously an allegory for fascism, which my teenage self sneered at, and my adult self really regrets every feeling that way.
Okay, finally, some more lighthearted stuff, we gotta talk about the Belgian and French art of bande dessinée. How is it different from comic books or manga? Functionally, it isn't. It really comes down more to what gets published in the Belgian-French industry compared to the American comics industry, which is dominated by superheroes, or the Japanese manga industry, which, while I'm less familiar with it, I know has some big genre trends as well that are completely separate.
The Lanfeust series - Arleston and Tarquin
Tumblr media
This is a YA mega-series, and I can't recommend all of it because I've lost track of the franchise's growth. Also note that I say "YA", but in this case it means something very different from an American understanding of YA. These books are pretty full of sex.
No, when I say YA I mean it has that level of maturity, for better or worse. The original series (Lanfeust de Troy) is high fantasy in a world where everyone has an individual magical ability but two characters find out they're gifted with an absolute power to make anything happen, and while it gets dark at times, it's still very lighthearted throughout, and the humor is...well, I think it's best described as teen boy humor. And it has a tendency to objectify its female characters, as you'll quickly parse out from the one cover I used here or if you browse more covers.
But still, it holds a special place in my heart, I guess. And on my shelves.
The sequel series, Lanfeust des Etoiles, turns it into a space opera, and goes a little overboard with the pop culture reference at times, though overall still maintains that balance of serious/at times dark story and lighthearted comedy.
After that the franchise is utter chaos to me, and I've lost track. I know there was another sequel series, which I dropped partway through, and a spinoff that retold part of the original series from the PoV of the main love interest (in the period of time she spent away from the main group). There was a comedy spin-off about the troll species unique to this world, a prequel series, probably more I don't even know exist.
Les Démons d'Alexia
Tumblr media
Something I can probably be a little less ashamed of including here.
Some backstory here. The Editions Dupuis are a giant of the Belgian bande dessinée industry, and for many, many years I was subscribed to their weekly magazine. That magazine was (mostly) made up of excerpts from the various books that the éditions were publishing at the time; those that were made of comic strips would usually get a couple pages of individual scripts, while the ongoing narratives got cut into episodes that were a few pages long (out of a typical 48 page count for a single BD album). Among those were this series.
For the first few volumes, I wasn't super into this series, probably because I was a little too young and smack dab in the middle of my "trying to be one of the boys" phase. But around book 3 I got really invested, to the point where I own the second half of the series because I had canceled by subscription by then but still wanted to know more.
Alexia is an exorcist with unusual talents, but little control, who's introduced to a group that specializes in researching paranormal phenomena, solving cases that involve the paranormal, that kinda stuff.
As a result of the premise, the series has a pretty slow start since it has to build up mystery around the source of Alexia's powers, but once it gets going and we get to what is essentially the series' main conflict, it gets really interesting.
Plus, witches. I'm a simple gay who likes strong protagonists and witches.
Tumblr media
Murena
Tumblr media
There was a point where my mtyhology nerdery led me to look for more stuff about the historical cultures that created them, and so I'd be super into stuff set in ancient Rome (I'd say "or Greece or Egypt" but let's face it, it was almost always Rome).
Murena is a series set just before the start of Emperor Nero's rule. You know, the one who was emperor when Rome burned, and according to urban legend either caused the fire or played the fiddle while it did (note: "fiddle" is a very English saying, it's usually the lyre in other languages). He probably didn't, it probably was propaganda, but he was a) a Roman Emperor, none of whom were particularly stellar guys and b) mean to Christians, who eventually got to rewrite history. So he's got a bad rep.
The series goes for a very historical take on events, albeit fictionalized (the protagonist and main PoV, the titular Lucius Murena, is himself fictional) and attempts to humanize the people involved in those events. Each book also includes some of the sources used to justify how events and characters are depicted, which is a nice touch.
It's also divided in subseries called "cycles" (books 1-4, 5-8 and the ongoing one starts at 9). I stopped after 9, though I think it's mostly a case of not going to bookstores often anymore. Plus it took four years between 9 and 10, and again between 10 and 11. But the first eight books made for a pretty solid story that honestly felt somewhat concluded as is, so it's a good place to start.

Hey there, umm I was just, y’know, making my way downtown, walking fast, as you do, and I suddenly wondered ‘hey, moo seems like someone with superior tv knowledge, I should ask moo if he has any movie/show recommendations’ and so here I am. Asking for movie and/or show recommendations. 👍
Babe you KNOW I be watchin tv (and movies)
This is gonna be a long post so I’ll make a Read under Cut to save your dash 🙏
Let's gooooo!
Movies first:
Swiss Army Man- R | Moo's rating: 10/10
This is my all time favorite movie. My comfort movie, if you will. Its WEIRD though. It has a lot of gross/surreal comedy, especially in the beginning so its not for everyone! Don't feel bad if you try to watch it and decide YIKES no thanks. Trust me, I understand lmao. But if you can make it through the gross stuff, I promise you a movie that is unlike any you've ever seen. I think its worth going into it completely blind but if you fancy watching the trailer, here it is:
Trailer
Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe are SPECTACULAR as the main characters and the soundtrack is hands down my FAVORITE movie soundtrack to date. I listen to it all the time in my free time because its that good. There are so many lessons on what it means to be alive, to be open so that others can understand and love all of you and it just GAH makes me cry every time.
Trigger warnings: suicide attempts, nudity (asscheeks), sexual humor, one of the characters is a corpse so uhhh whatever that trigger would be lol
Kimi no na wa/Your Name- PG | Moo's rating: 10/10
Amazing, spectacular, perfect, yes. This is my faaaavorite anime movie. The animation is mind blowing and paired with an OST by Radwimps???? Ahhhhh so gooood. This is the movie I share with my non-anime fan friends/family because its that gorgeous 😍 I cry EVERY time
Trailer
TW: dubious character death? Hmm I dunno how to warn about it without spoilers so just uhhh... death but like... not... death lmao
O Brother, Where Art Thou?- PG-13 | Moo's rating: 9.5/10
Based loosely on the Odyssey by Homer, this movie USED to be my all time favorite. I've seen it like a million times by now. Its a Coen Brothers film so OBVIOUSLY its a total banger. Its a funny, wild ride from start to finish with a FANTASTIC cast and another perfect OST.
Trailer
TW: Racism/ scenes involving the KKK, some animals are killed (cows and toad). As someone who is sensitive to animal death in movies, I'm not too bothered by the scenes so take that as you please
School of Rock- PG-13 | Moo's rating: 9.5/10
I mean.... I feel like I shouldn't even have to say anything about this one. If you haven't seen it then what're you doing??????? Go watch it!! Its literally Jack Black playing Jack Black, what more do you need?
Trailer
TW: nothing comes to mind tbh its just innocent fun
Kung-fu Hustle- PG-13 | Moo's rating: 9/10
This one ALSO used to be my favorite movie. Absolutely hilarious and great quality kung-fu action! Stephen Chow is a genius 🙏🙏🙏 (Shaolin Soccer is also good but Kung-fu Hustle is iconic 😘👌)
Trailer
TW: violence and minor character death, also a CG cat dies but its not graphic at all
Moulin Rouge- PG-13 | Moo's rating: 9/10
Obviously this movie is in my top list of fave movies. Great music, dynamo cast, beautiful setting and direction mwwwwah 😙🤌
Trailer
TW: major character death, sexual assault
Guns Akimbo- R | Moo's rating: 9/10
Talk about EXCITING. This movie is a RIDE. Daniel Radcliffe honestly might be one of my fave actors these days tbh because he fuckin rocks in this one too. Very very actiony and violent but there are some super cool and pretty shots and scenes like wow I love it and need to rewatch it
Trailer
TW: Graphic violence, blood, death, etc of that sort
Hunt for the Wilderpeople- PG-13 | Moo's rating: 8.5/10
Listen, I'm a big sucker for the "grizzled old man adopts child" trope AND Taika Waititi's brand of humor so this movie is just mwah chef's kiss. Its set in beautiful New Zealand so theres plenty to admire 😍 I was gonna rate it a 9/10 but there ARE a few parts that drag a tiny bit. Still though, it's spectacular and worth a watch for sure
Trailer
TW: minor character death, and one dog dies :(
50/50- R | Moo's rating: 8/10
Ahh this movie makes me EMOTE. Seth Rogen's role as Joseph Gordon-Levitt's best friend in this movie was SHOCKINGLY sweet and heartfelt. He’s literally such a good friend its crazy. Very good, very nice story about dealing with a tough ass situation 👌
Trailer
TW: sex, drug use (cannabis), cancer/hospitals/sickness
Honorable mentions (recs that I'm too lazy to talk about but are still good):
Secondhand Lions
Palm Springs
Ready or Not
Wild Target
Monster in Law (HUSH I just think its funny)
Airplane
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Jesus Christ Superstar
Ocean's Eleven (12 and 13 are also good)
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (Bogus Journey is great as well)
🖤
Now for TV!
I'm gonna split these up in 2 categories: Live action and animation, because I watch a lot of both 👌
First, Live Action:
The Good Place- TV-PG | Moo's rating: 10/10
You KNOW imma always recommend this show its perfect and I rewatch it ALL the time. AMAZING ensemble cast with a ton of chemistry, hilarious, heartfelt, ugh its just fantastic in every way. Its also such a treat to look at like mmmm Ted Danson, Manny Jacinto, William Jackson Harper, Kristen Bell- LITERALLY ALL OF THEM CMON
TW: none? I mean, i would say death but its about the afterlife so thats kind of a given, ya know? So uhh just some sexual stuff and like... alcohol? Less of trigger warning and more of a content warning i guess
The Nanny: TV-PG | Moo's rating: 9.5/10
This show awakened some things in me as a kid, yo. Fran is a fashion icon, I was literally IN LOVE with her back then. Still am tbh.
TW: its pretty innocent, some sexual content of course but thats about it
Malcolm in the Middle- TV-PG | Moo's rating: 9/10
I've lost track of how many times I've rewatched this banger. Its wildly entertaining and depicts a family that loves just as hard as they fight GAH the cast is so quirky and the moments when they come together for a common goal (especially when they defend Lois???) is just so sweet. 🥰 its also surprisingly progressive! There's an episode where both Malcolm and Reese think the other one is gay and it genuinely made me so soft how they were trying so hard to be supportive agsgshdgsh I love it (also Hal is Bryan Cranston's best role ever, no competition. Everyone deserves a husband like Hal)
TW: some rough family situations, military school
My Name is Earl- TV-PG | Moo's rating: 9/10
This show would be a 10/10 if it didn't get canceled and also have that weird coma stuff in season 3. Even with that though, this show is amazing. Soooo funny and full of super sweet life lessons. Its genuinely heartwarming to watch Earl learn lessons and navigate his new way of life 🖤
TW: crime, violence, infidelity, sexual content
Raising Hope- TV-PG | Moo's rating: 8.5/10
SO CUTE CUTE CUTE. Single father and cute daughter?????? You KNOW im all for that shit!!! Gah this show is adorable and sweet as friggin syrup
TW: violence
3rd Rock from the Sun: TV-PG | Moo's rating: 8/10
I love me a "fish outta water" premise man hnnn I used to watch this show every day after school its great. I was in LOVE with Sally. Oof long legs extreme help 🥵 (wow this has become a thirst list)
TW: sexual themes
Good Girls- TV-14 | Moo's rating: 7.5/10
Like watching women commit crimes? Then this is the show for you! Honestly this show is just fun. And the soundtrack is BANGING
TW: crime, violence
Dead to Me- TV-MA | Moo's rating: 7/10
Christina Applegate is SO GOOD in this show. And paired with Linda Cardellini???? 😙👌 honestly if I was rating the first season alone, I would rate it a 9/10 but the second season brought it down a little. The characters and their relationships are so complex, its so consuming 🙏 (also bi representation wassup)
TW: sexual content, death, grief, recreational drug use
Okay let's move on to animated shows 👍
Bojack Horseman- TV-MA | Moo's rating: 10/10
This is SUPERIOR writing. I dont even know how to talk about this show because it has EVERYTHING. Its socially conscious, hilarious, dark, depressing, hopeful, EVERYTHING. I never expected to connect to or be affected by this show the way I have been. The characters are deep and all go through their own personal arcs throughout the 6 seasons and it is honestly the first show I've seen to accurately depict SO MANY THINGS. Stuff like depression and ptsd and addiction and the strain fame puts on people, especially young people GEE IM GETTING EMOTIONAL ALL OVER AGAIN. Anyway, its amazing, ill stop now
TW: all of them. All the triggers. Well maybe not all of them. There's a lot of substance abuse and addiction and driving under the influence. Character death, violence, real world issues like gun control and sexism... its pretty chock full of stressors, so if you're someone who is sensitive to that kinda thing, make sure to look up a complete list of trigger warnings before watching! 🖤
Bob's Burgers- TV-PG | Moo's rating: 10/10
I probably don't need to explain why this is here. Great original music, fun characters, life lessons. Its the best, the end
TW: nothing comes to mind 🤔
King of the Hill- TV-PG | Moo’s rating: 10/10
I do a rewatch of this classic at least once a year.
I always tell people that Bob from Bob’s Burgers is my ideal of a perfect (white cis male) Democrat and Hank from King of the Hill is my ideal of a perfect (white cis male) Republican and I’m so so right. Hank is so conservative in his attitude about literally EVERYTHING, but not in the horrible Confederate flag waving, woman hating way. He’s a reserved, private guy who constantly LEARNS and GROWS, and is always open to other people’s lifestyles, even if he doesn’t understand it or if it makes him uncomfortable.
This show tackles a wide variety of people and topics and never fails to make it funny AND sweet. There are times when Hank can be bullheaded and infuriating but he always comes around to make the right decision by the end of the episode 🥰 He also reminds me SO MUCH of my dad. Literally his mannerisms, his voice, the way he says “Whhat?” when he’s shocked... it’s just my dad in cartoon form, I swear lmao
TW: republicans, guns, depression, Hank’s dad is abusive af (though he does have moments of sweetness)
The Amazing World of Gumball- TV-Y7-FV | Moo’s rating: 10/10
This show NEVER gets old. When I just wanna watch a quick something while I eat lunch or if none of my other shows are doing it for me, this is my go-to. It’s a kids show so it’s definitely more lighthearted than the others but it’s straight up HILARIOUS and has some adult jokes sprinkled in here and there.
On top of that, they use a huge mix of animation types. From 2D to CG to claymation to puppetry WOW it’s so cool
TW: cartoon violence
Futurama- TV-14 | Moo’s rating: 9/10
Maybe I’m just simple but this show is just laugh after laugh after laugh. So witty and quick. It’s another one that I rewatch constantly. (honestly all of these shows are 🤷‍♂️)
TW: violence, sex, drugs/alcohol
Archer- TV-MA | Moo’s rating: 8.5/10
Like Bojack, this one is very mature and not for everyone. It’s one of those shows (like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) that has a full cast of degenerates and bastards. Archer is an alcoholic douchebag, Mallory is a greedy bitch, Cheryl is clinically insane, Cyril is a whiny sex addict, Pam is an obnoxious pervert, Lana is a naggy wet blanket, Kreiger is a mad scientist, Ray is gay.
But it’s funny as fuck. It’s definitely one of those things where you’re like “oh no i can’t believe I’m laughing at this” but man I just love it. The dialogue is FANTASTIC and the wacky shenanigans they get into is always entertaining. If adult humor is something you’re into then this one is perfect 👌
Pam is my fave 🙏
TW: uhhh everything again. lots of violence and death, sex, drugs/alcohol, addiction, just straight up terrible human beings doing terrible things
The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack- TV-Y7-FV | Moo’s rating: 8/10
Another cartoon for kids that I got endless joy from as an adult. It’s weird af and sometimes disgusting but the brand of humor is RIGHT up my alley. I dunno how to explain it, just give it a watch
TW: gross-out gags, cartoon violence
Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts- TV-Y7 | Moo’s rating: 8/10
Want to see some representation? Watch Kipo! The three main characters are POC and one is gay! The animation for this show is so nice and pretty too 😙👌 And the soundtrack??? Yes. Spectacular.
I would rate it higher but it felt a little short 🤔 even though it has 3 seasons, once it finished I felt like there should have been more.
TW: cartoon violence, some dark themes
Hilda- TV-Y7 | Moo’s rating: 7/10
This one is just nice and wistful and cute. Little adventures in a magical world of trolls and witches and other interesting mythical creatures.
TW: none 🖤
okay okay i’ll stop there because this post is already super long. Some of these titles might seem really obvious because they’ve been around for a while or they’re just wildly popular but if you haven’t seen them then this is your reminder to watch them!
Hope you find something you like from this list 🥰🥰
