Hihihihi! Can I get a parental/platonic parent matchup for hazbin hotel?
Im a cancer, around 14-15 years of age, and have short brown hair. I'm around 4'9-5'6 ft.
Around people I don't know I'm super nice and kind, usually complimenting my my way into a friendship with most people. I like to draw and read horror book, (I.E coraline, the man in the basement, dread end, etc).
I am mostly known around school as a kid who gives most of the time, buying goods for kids who can't at lunch, sitting with lonely kids, etc. I try my best to stay out of fights, and most times I don't initiate them.
At home, however, I can be loud and tired at the same time. I'll be like: "SO GUESS WHAT HAPPENED AT SC- I'm tired ima go nap" and I'm also the peacemaker of the family, being the youngest.
My fashion usually varies from vampire goth to grunge. I mostly wear vampire goth outside of home, but at school I wear grunge cuz if I wear vampire goth I'll get bullied.
Thats all! I'm sorry if I didn't provide enough info! Make sure to take care of yourself ♡
You got…Emily | Carmilla | Vox!
Your best friend is Emily! Ever since the two of you met, you've always gotten along. She really likes your drawings and tries to read what you read, but she finds them a bit scary and will usually depend on you summarizing things for her so she doesn't have to go through any of the gruesome parts. She is probably very scared and very intrigued with Coraline.
Emily agrees that you are one of the sweetest people she's ever met; she never feels judged around you and always gets her thirst for adventure quenched with all the media you show her. Your style is so cool to her, she might even ask if you can help her do some gothy vampire looks.
Expect quite serene days spent having fun without worry. Emily will always be there to defend you, and she probably has a billion questions to ask you at all times.
X
One figure who would take you in is Carmilla Carmine. She already has two daughters whom she adores deeply, and so she has a lot of experience with teens and teaches them all they need to know.
Your fashion probably just matches her looks, and she is more than happy to help you pick out a proper, well-rounded wardrobe that not only suits exactly what you like but also matches her a little bit. Lots of red and grayscale clothing.
Carmilla reads a lot, usually with a glass of red wine, and she makes certain to keep a section of her bookshelf for you, full of books she thinks you might like. She's the type to read all of them in advance, so when you finish, you can talk to her about them to your heart's desire.
Expect a protective but free household; you and her other daughters are held to her highest standard, and anything your heart wishes, she will do her best to achieve. You are always welcome to join the family business, too.
X
Another parental figure you may have is Vox! Vox never planned to have kids or take any in; no, he probably thinks he hates kids! But there's an exception for everything.
He probably sneaks you into the V's tower after finding you alone, and he's already committed to getting you cleaned up and warm because, man, what is this kid doing all alone in hell? He can't just—well, he can't just leave you out there, can he?
The more time you spend together, the more he considers you his daughter. You have your own room that he's always bringing things into. He's the type to just knock until you let him in and then give you some random thing he got you. Single slice of pizza, hot chocolate—hey, look how fast he can solve a Rubics cube. Wanna play with this new drone I'm prototyping? I found the book you wanted!
Oh yeah, the fridge is covered in your drawings. Even if they're digital, he has a little digital screen that has a slideshow of your work, and he does his best to show interest in any hobby you pick up.
If he ever hears you say you won't do something because you'd be bullied, he would probably hand you a taser and money to go indulge in what you like and zap the shit out of anyone who pokes fun at you.
He's not a very good parent in terms of morals, but he won't let anyone hurt you or shame you. He would get Velvette herself to help you find your style and would probably bar Valentino from ever EVER meeting you.
Expect a lot of movie nights together, trying all his new technology first, and getting every ounce of support. You'll never be alone, and you'll always be safe because, unless you ask him not to, he's always checking in on you.

Author’s Note - I actually could not pick, I had so many ideas!! So I went for one friend and two (separate) parental figures! I hope thats okay, I was literally ranting to my friends all night about the indeas I got lmaooo

When her alarm goes off, she’s so ungodly tired, it’s as if she never slept. But she did. She had 8 hours of the freakiest, unprompted bad dreams that she’s ever had. She allows herself a couple minutes to lay in bed, eyes closed, soaking up the sun that was coming in through her blinds already.
Luckily her work clothes were just a polo and jeans, noting too boring and easy as hell to get into when she was running late. She gets dressed, grabs her things, locks up her house and heads to work. She does stop for coffee, grabbing one for Colin on her way in as well, she really loved her job.
She walks in with a smile, even though she just wants to yawn and sit back down. It was insane how tired she felt.
“You good?” Colin notices, headset on and already on the job, he takes the coffee from her with a smile, “you look… nice?”
She laughs, rolling her eyes softly, “thanks, I’m just exhausted.”
“Well, buckle in,” he pats her shoulder, pointing her towards her desk, “cause it’s back-to-back calls so far and it’s only 9 am.”
Tumblr media
And then she’s on the clock.
It had been 3 weeks since he met Y/N, they’ve had 3 real dates, a few movie hang-outs and gone through 1 ovulation cycle together. Let’s just say, he’s a lot happier than normal. No longer needing his cane, he has a pep in his step that everyone notices.
They’ve bugged him every day since the first date. It’s been evident that something good happened to him for quite some time, but he doesn’t admit it until today. With Hotch, because he has a good feeling about things.
They agreed that they wouldn’t write up a co-parenting agreement until there was a child to take custody of, that being because Spencer thought it was bad luck. Planning for the future was the one sure way to ensure that it didn’t happen to him, this was the most important thing to happen to him, so he wasn’t going to chance it.
After a mountain of morning paperwork and no new cases, he climbs the stairs to Hotch’s office and peaks his head in the door.
“Hotch, can I ask you something?”
“What’s up?” He looks up from his desk, concerned probably because Spencer doesn’t often come to ask him for help unless it’s bad.
Spencer closes the door behind himself, wandering into his office and sitting in a chair across from him with a sigh. “Do you know any good family lawyers in the area?”
The concern on his face grows, his big brown eyes narrow on him and his brows furrow, “I do.”
“Erm, well, I need to write up some co-parenting agreement papers,” he can’t meet Aaron’s eyes as he says it. “So I need someone who’s good, and I figured you’d know, given everything…”
“Oh?” He’s just as shocked as Spencer suspected he’d be. “I didn’t know you were even seeing anyone?”
“I'm not— not really, me and a friend both want a kid so we’re starting the process of having a baby together,” he explains it differently than how it happened, for his own sanity. If Derek knew he met this woman online and had sex with her a few hours later, he’d never hear the end of it.
“April Clarke, I’ll pass your number on to her, she’ll be able to help,” he smiles, “I’m really happy for you, congratulations.”
“We’re not pregnant yet,” it’s weird to even say it, “but soon, I’ll need to use some of my vacation days on appointments and things, and apply for paternity leave eventually, and she wants to meet all of you as well.”
“They’re going to be shocked to hear that you have a female friend they don’t know yet,” Hotch smiles.
He sighs, smiling slightly and pushing his long hair behind his ear, “I know, why do you think I’ve kept it to myself for 3 weeks?”
“Penelope would probably throw a party just to meet her if you told them,” he offers up the idea, “it’s been a while since we’ve had a gathering.”
“We’ll see,” Spencer stands up, straightening out his shirt as he does so, “I’ll let you get back to your paperwork.”
“Okay, and don’t worry, I won’t say anything until you do,” he assures him.
“Thanks,” he gives him a nod before opening the door and returning to his desk.
—
It starts with a simple question.
“911, what’s your emergency?”
Depending on her luck, sometimes the answer was simple too. A fender bender, a broken arm at a playground, or a possible drunk driver on the highway thanks to some slight swerving… it was the things that had a quick answer that she favoured.
Every once in a while she’d get one that was nowhere near simple.
“Hi…” the voice is quiet, barely there, but the breathing that follows is heavy.
“Hello? Is someone there?”
There’s a sniffle and a shaky breath, “yeah. I um…I just don’t know what to call my emergency?”
“Okay,” that confuses her, she immediately flags down the floor manager, Colin, to assist, “do you want to maybe tell me what you’re going through and I can see how I can help you?”
“okay.”
“Alright, well, I’m Y/N, what’s your name?”
“Paige,” she starts to warm up to her.
“Okay Paige, what’s going on?”
“My dad lives in the up part, he only comes down to give us things, I’ve never seen the up part, my mom went with him the other day and I haven’t seen her since. So I came to the up part, and I remembered on the tv they said to call 9-1-1 if something bad happened.”
As she’s listening, Y/N dispatches everything possible to the home she’s calling from. “Is it just you home? Do you have any siblings?”
“I have 3 sisters, they’re down in our house.”
“And how old are you all?”
“I’m 14, Sarah is 12, Olivia is 8 and Violet is 6.”
They’re all so young. Her heart is breaking. “Do you know who the police are?”
“Yeah?”
“I’ve sent some of my most trusted police friends to come over and help you, they’re going to look for your mom and make sure you’re okay. They’re about 8 minutes away,” she explains as best as possible.
“And my sisters?”
“And your sisters,” she agrees, “do you know what your mom's real name is?”
“Uh…” there’s a long pause. “No, I don’t think she’s ever told us, but dad sometimes called her Tilly.”
“That’s a good start for me,” she manages to smile, adding as much information to the report as possible. “Now when the police get there, it might be a little scary, can you take the phone with you down to wait with your sisters? Or is it attached to a cord?”
“It has a long curly thing attached to the wall,” she explains, it can probably reach down the stairs?”
“Try it, go as far as you can and wait on the steps for help to—
“Oh no, no no no—
“What’s going on Paige?”
“He’s back.” And the phone hangs up just like that.
“Shit,” Y/N whispers to herself. The whole conversation she kept thinking, she's so close to the FBI, Spencer should go help her.
So she pulls out her phone, calls the number and waits.
“Are you okay?” Spencer answers after half a ring.
“No, there was a girl who I believe is the product of a kidnapper and a victim, she called 911 and said he hurt her mother, the address is close to you,”
“Send it, we’re on our way,” Spencer says, and she can hear him getting ready to rush out the door, and voices asking what’s going on. “There’s a murder and possible abduction happening down the road, 4 kids need help.”
“Thank you,” Y/N whispers through the phone, “call me back when they’re safe? She hung up on me when he got home again.”
“How far out are the cops?”
“4 minutes, I sent 224-L16 first, he’s the closest,” she uses her dispatcher talk with him, knowing he’d understand.
“Sargent LaMontagne?”
“Yep, he’s my best patrol officer,” Y/N has no idea how Spencer knows him.
“That’s Henry’s dad,” she can hear his smile, and more questions from his side of the phone, voices she’s never heard before but are probably connected to names and stories Spencer’s shared with her. “I gotta go, but I’ll call you later.”
“Okay,” she lets him go. Hanging up and watching the monitor light up with a new call.
She takes a deep breath and starts all over again, “911, what’s your emergency?”
His day is mostly boring after that. 2 cups of coffee, a chocolate donut with sprinkles, 30 minutes of nerd talk with Penelope… it was just the usual.
They were all gathering their coats, the end of the shift was coming up and they risked it all. Normally a call came in if they tried to leave early, they didn’t think they’d get one today.
“So, anyone wants to get drinks later?” JJ asks, “I can find a babysitter.”
“I’m down,” Derek agrees, laying his coat over his shoulder and putting on his sunglasses.
“Same,” Emily agrees.
That’s when Spencer’s phone rings. He sees it’s Y/N and he fears the worst, she would call while he’s at work, she normally texts. Not even a second passes and he answers, “are you okay?”
Everyone stops and stares at him, listening in to his conversation and witnessing all the colour leave his face.
“Send it, we’re on our way,” Spencer announces, rushing to the door.
They’re all so confused, following his lead but confused as hell, Derek calls for Hotch, and Rossi comes running out too.
“There’s a murder and possible abduction and murder happening down the road, 4 kids need help,” Spencer announces, and they all spring into action. Running out the double glass doors to the elevator.
Keys are exchanged, coats are on, Hotch calls Penelope and all the information is relayed between her and dispatch.
Once he hangs up, his phone goes into his pocket and the elevator has almost reached the garage level, “two questions… who was that and how do they know my boyfriend?” JJ asks.
“Oh, my friend Y/N works at 9-1-1,” he looks over at Hotch, “she dispatched Will, but his ETA wasn’t enough, and we’re close.”
“So let’s boogie,” Rossi hands his keys to Derek, Hotch has the other pair, they load the two SUVs and off they go.
Bulletproof vests are handed between each other, they prepare for the worst, hope for the best and pray they find these girls unharmed.
They roll up to the driveway just behind Will, all of them getting out and discharging their weapons.
With a hushed voice, Will points to the bushes, “Derek, Emily, I want you to sneak around back, Hotch, Rossi and I will go to the door, Spencer and Jayj, you go in once we take him down and secure the kids.”
“On it,” Spencer agrees, sneaking with JJ around to the edges of the porch, getting another angle for a possible shootout.
Will knocks, Hotch stands behind him with his hand on his gun, under his suit jacket. When the door opens, it’s immediately shut in their face. Will places his foot in front of it, stopping it from fully closing, he pushes through and grabs the man by the cuff of his shirt, “Curtis Patricks?”
“Y-yeah?”
“Paige called us, care to tell us where you keep them locked up?”
They’re shocked to see Will so in control, so different from the last takedown they all did together. The only difference in him now: he’s a father now, himself.
He gives in, caught and frail, in his late 50s and tired of hiding for so long. He sighs and his shoulders drop, “basement door, by the landline.”
He’s cuffed quickly, JJ and Spencer rush in and find the girls in the basement, huddled together in the corner, with the eldest in front.
The room is basically empty. Cement floors, pink insulation trapped between beams and captured by plastic. No drywall, exposed electricity, old tree trunks in the ceiling show how old the house truly is, Patricks must’ve lived here since he was born, with no planning to have 4 children, the woman he captured once lived here by herself.
“Who are you?” The eldest, Page, asks.
“Y/N sent us,” Spencer smiles at her. “Did she tell you people were coming?”
She nods, “she did… have you found our mom yet?”
“Not yet sweetie,” JJ smiles at them. “We have officers arriving who are going to figure this out and get you some answers, until then do you want to come with us to the hospital? We need to make sure you’re doing okay.”
“In the up part?” One of the younger ones looks perplexed, “we can’t go there.”
“You can now,” Spencer kneels down to her level, “you’re going to love it. The air is so fresh, the sky is beautiful, there are so many things to explore and do. You’re going to have fun, I promise.”
The eldest sighs, “alright, come on guys. Mom would want us to be taken care of.”
“What about daddy?” Another asks.
“He’s going to the police station to give them some help with finding your mom,” JJ lies as best as she can. “Come on, let’s go upstairs.”
The oldest one lets her siblings go first, they go up the stairs slowly with JJ behind them, Spencer just looks at her, “did you want to talk to Y/N again?”
“Please?”
“Come on,” Spencer places his hand on her shoulder and escorts her upstairs. He digs his phone from his pocket and calls Y/N as soon as he has service above ground again.
“Spencer, oh my god, are they safe? Did you get there in time?”
“I did,” he smiles, watching Paige light up as she hears Y/N’s voice too. “Someone wants to talk to you.”
“Y/N?” Paige grips the phone with two hands and holds it to her ear.
“Paige, I’m so happy to hear your voice,” she lets out a deep sigh, “you’re in good hands with Spencer, he’s probably going to have lots of questions for you soon and I promise, he’s a person you can trust.”
“Can you be there when he asks them?” Paige looks up at Spencer, listening in to every word, he nods, “Spencer says it’s okay.”
“I get off work soon, I’ll come right to Quantico,” she agrees. “Is there anything you need? Clean clothes or snacks for you and your sisters?”
“Um… I’m not sure yet?”
“They’re good for now,” Spencer answers for her, and Paige hands him the phone, “we’re going to the hospital actually, I’ll text you which one.”
“Okay, get there safely, I’ll see you soon,” she smiles on the other end, he could hear her cheeks.
“Bye,” he smiles back before hanging up.
“Is she your wife?”
He laughs, turning pink, “no, no, she’s not. Erm, let’s go find your sisters. You get to ride in an ambulance today.”
When she gets in the ambulance, she embraces her sisters. Holding them close and telling them it was all going to be okay, they’d find their mom, they’d be safe, their dad can’t bother them anymore. He shuts the doors, assuring them that he’d meet them there with a smile, now it was his turn to answer questions.
“Who was she?” Derek asks, chin lifting and pointing towards him, he smirks.
“A new friend of mine.”
“Girlfriend?”
“No.”
“But you’re sleeping together?”
Of course, he knows.
“We are.”
“Spence,” he shoves him in the shoulder, “I wanna know all about her.”
“You’re just in luck,” he pats Derek’s back and heads to the passenger seat of the SUV, “she’ll meet us at the hospital.”
He warned her.
In the 3 weeks, she’s known him, he’s told her many a time that his friends were heavily invested in his love life. Looking at him like a younger brother bringing a girl home for the first time, they were happy for him. That didn’t stop them from teasing him, however.
She hugs him as soon as she sees him. That’s the first tell that they’re more than friends. They linger, holding each other tightly while whispering sweet welcomes. His hand stays on her lower back as she turns to his friends, “hi, it’s so nice to meet you all.”
“It’s nice to know you’re real,” Emily smiles, reaching out her hand. “Emily, we’ve all been dying to know who’s made Spence so happy lately.”
“It’s nice to finally put faces to all the names in his stories,” she smiles back, not surprised he’s been so cheery… especially after how lonely he said he was before her.
She gets all of their names, they exchange small talk and they all ring true to the personalities Spencer has described. Derek is confident, he stands tall with a softness that makes him not only trustworthy but safe. Emily is just as witty, bubbly and sweet as ever, she can tell why Spencer describes her as a sister.
Hotch is stoic, smiling softly like he knows more than he’s letting off and keeping to himself. JJ catches on to that, cuddling up to her boyfriend and smirking. She looks back and forth between Y/N and Spencer and nods to herself, approving in her own way.
“Do you mind if I have a word with Y/N?” Hotch asks.
“Yeah,” she answers for herself, leaving Spencer's side and following him down a corridor.
“We found the mother's body,” is how he leads with it. She had a feeling that was going to be the outcome. “A social worker is on the way for the girls, they’re working on reaching out to Tilly’s family to see if they can be reunited.”
“That’s wonderful, they deserve to have a good support system,” she agrees.
“The only issue is figuring out who should tell them. The doctors wanted the social workers to do it because they’re trained to handle the grief, however, you are the first person Paige has come to trust in the real world, and I think she’d find the most comfort hearing it from you.”
She tears up almost instantly, “no, no I can’t tell them that they’ve lost their mother. I… no?”
“You’re completely allowed to back out, thats why I asked you alone,” Hotch smiles softly, “I didn’t want you to say yes just to please everyone.”
She wipes her eyes quickly, shaking her head, “I would, but if I get this involved with 1 case, I’m going to want to follow up with all of my calls, and that wouldn’t be healthy.”
“I completely understand,” he places a hand on her shoulder to assure her, looking into her eyes softly, he was just as Fatherly as Spencer described. “And can I just say, you made a great choice with Spencer, I hope everything works out.”
“Thank you,” she smiles, “I do too…”
His hand stays on her arm, leading her back to where they were and she immediately returns to Spencer's side. Everyone else has left, it would seem, Spencer was the only one still there in that same corridor that she left them. Slightly upset still, wanting his embrace, she puts her arm around his waist and holds him in a half hug.
“You okay?” He whispers into her hair, kissing the top of her head before pulling away.
She nods, “just extremely tired… and I’ve cried like 6 times today. It’s fine, I just can’t wait to go home.”
“They’re going out for drinks, we’ve been invited, but I’m not sure if you should have a drink…” he smirks. “Should we go home and take a test?”
Her attention snaps right to him, her eyes grow 10 sizes, “you think?”
He nods, smirking still, “let’s go.”
It’s the longest 3 minutes of his life. Sitting on the edge of the bathtub beside his … he didn’t even really know what to call her. But they sat there, holding hands, waiting for the timer to ding before they look at the tests. They bought so many, planning on doing two tonight and more in the morning when she had better chances of testing positive, he couldn’t wait.
This was the most nerve-racking and exciting moment of his entire life.
The little egg timer buzzes, moving on the final countertop and bumping into the ceramic sink, making a terrible sound. Spencer grabs it quickly and as he does, he sees the two pink lines.
He gasps, dropping the egg timer to the floor and covering his mouth.
“No fucking way?!” She grabs both tests and holds them up, examining the fine pink line that would change their lives forever.
“You’re pregnant,” Spencer whispered, pulling her into a hug, not caring that the two pee sticks were now touching the back of his shirt as they held each other.
“We’re going to have a baby,” she cries, overjoyed, hormonal and beyond thankful.
She pulls back enough to look at him, he stares into her glossy eyes, so incredibly enamoured by her, he wasn’t sure if it was this moment or all the others they’ve shared so far, catching up to him. All he knew was that he felt something for her that he’s never felt for another human being. A love that reached beyond anything he could label, she wasn’t just someone he wanted to have a baby with, she wasn’t just someone he could see spending the rest of his life with him, she was so much more. She’s everything to him.
They both go in for a kiss at the same time, breathing each other in deeply, he soaks in all the affection he can get from her.

Old Friends - All Grown Up
Shortly after leaving the party, my phone vibrates. A message on Instagram. It is Nick. To my surprise, he is still following me and he asks me to check in with him when I get home safely. I bite my lower lip, trying to hide the huge smile. "What's up with the smiley face Y/N/N?", Nicole asks. "Nothing! That party was just great...", I mumble the last sentence. "Uh-uh! She means that hot redhead was great. But you can thank me later for dragging you to that party!", Emily laughs. "I know him from before University... we are...just old friends", I defend myself. The girls laugh, in unison. "Just friends, huh? I don't believe that!", says Emily. They pick on me for a little longer until they are distracted by a group of people walking by we know. I keep quiet for the rest of the way and say goodbye when we arrive at my flat. I make my way up to the third floor, unlock the door, kick off my shoes, put my hair up in a bun and immediately head for the fridge grabbing a cool drink and some grapes. My social battery is dead for now. I sit down on my kitchen floor opening Instagram, again, smiling like an idiot.
Nick Nelson
Hi you! Let me know when you're home safe?
Y/N Y/L/N
Hi! I'm home now 😮‍💨 Are you still at the party?
Nick Nelson
Nah, left shortly after you were gone!
It was really lovely to see you again ☺️
Hope we'll see each other on campus..
Y/N Y/L/N
Let me know when you're home safe? 😁
tbh? I'd be mad if we don't!
Gonna have a word with Darcy and Tara! Can't believe they never said anything!
Nick Nelson
Right?! What did I do?🥺
Cheesy! I'm home now 😝
Y/N Y/L/N
Idk must have done something!🤷🏻‍♀️
That's great! I'm heading to bed now. Sleep well xx
Nick Nelson
Yeah, me too. Goodnight ☺️
I only saw the last message as a notification on my lock screen while walking to the bathroom. I get rid of my clothes, put on a large sleeping shirt, and battle my hair once again before washing my make-up off and then heading for my bedroom, throwing myself at the bed. I take my phone and read Nick's last message again. I haven't thought about high school or him in a long time. Sure, when seeing Tara and Darcy we're reminiscing about the "good old days" every now and then, but we barely do that anymore. I finished high-school four years ago but after that, my life changed so drastically that it feels way further into the past. The first year after high school I stayed home with my parents, worked for some time and then travelled around Europe for quite some time. Then, two years ago, I started studying here at the University and therefore officially moved out.
I softly shake my head, trying to think of something else. I turn off my lights, crawl under the blanket and make sure to turn off all my alarms so I can just sleep in. After starting some light instrumental music with a timer which stops the music in two hours, I put my phone away and try to find a comfy position to sleep in. Closing my eyes I feel it spinning, I quite had some drinks. Hoping the spinning might lull me into sleep, but my thoughts prevent that. My brain feels the urge to get updated on Nick's life. How is his family? Nellie? Whom is he still friends with? Who are his new friends? What music is he into? Before my brain can fully spiral in those thoughts I give in and open Insta again. I avoid opening his last message but I go on his profile and scroll through his pictures and get some answers to the previous questions. Silly little girl stalking her old crush... After a while, I feel my eyes falling shut a few times and before I could know I am asleep.
Wednesday - 4 days after the party
"Ugggh! This is so boring!", I groan very quietly. Lily next to me looks at me in disbelief. "Don't be so loud! They'll kick us out if you're rude!", she hisses at me. I laugh softly, "By now I really wish they'd finally do it..." All my friends around me laugh as quietly as possible, but our professor in the front still shoots us a warning glance. I really try to focus on what is being said in the front, but it is impossible. First lectures at the beginning of a semester are always the same; the professors tell stories about their time at university, they rant about how undisciplined and lazy a lot of students are, then they read out their syllables and go back to ranting. My phone vibrates.

Meet me at the main entrance of the philology department
Lecture is done in 40mins
Nick Nelson
🙌🏻 I'll see you in 40!
I look up from my phone, trying to catch up with what is being said. "Did you win the Lottery? Are de finally redeemed? Let's leave!" I hear Vivian to my right site. "What?", I whisper without looking at her. "You smiled at your phone like crazy!", she says while nudging me with her elbow. "Was I?" Lily on the other side laughs a little too loud. We ear another glance. "Hell yes! Are you writing with that hot redhead again?", Lily whispers cautiously while making sure our professor doesn't get disturbed by her again. I roll my eyes in response. "So it is him!", Vivian exclaims. "He has a name. And yes, I was texting him... He'll join us for lunch. But I wasn't smiling.." Emily who sits behind me bends over "The hot rugby guy? Is he joining us? Hell yes!" I laugh slightly over their reactions. Oh lord!
After 40 minutes which felt like hours, we finally leave the lecture hall, gathering outside and exchanging numbers for study groups. I look around to find Nick. A bit further away I see him walking towards us, his right hand reaches up to wave at me. "Nick!" I shout the moment I see him wandering around the space in front of my lecture hall, waving to make sure he sees us. "He had a bi bracelet, right?" Lily asked waving too, "How do you know the rugby captain?". "We went to school together", I reply. Nick arrives with a big smile on his face. "Hi!", he says while hugging me. "Hi" I mumble while enjoying his warm hug. I see the glances of my girlfriends while we part. He turns to the group, waving at them and greeting them all at once. "So... Where's that magical place you told me about?" he asks while turning back to me. "Just follow us handsome!" one of my friends responds. Nick chuckles slightly. I gesture him to follow her lead, laughing about his slightly flushed face. Nothing changed...
"How's the first week back at campus going?", Nick asks while we wait to be seated. "The usual... lecturers trying to explain how studying works... without really knowing the requirements" I groan. He laughs at my statement. "Yeah... I'm in my 7th semester now and they still do that!" "Whyyy tho?" He just shrugs his shoulders in response.
The moment we sit down my friends attack him with questions. I mostly just listen to the conversation because I know most of the answers. Vivian suddenly laughs loudly grabbing everyone's attention. "Omg! Y/N! Nick! You were so cute back then!" "Huh?", Nick and I both look at her. She turns her phone so we can see old newspaper articles about our school sports days. The other girls try to get a good look too. They look at us, comparing us now and then. I slowly sink into my seat. Nick just laughs and earns compliments. I mean, he literary only looks younger and slimmer. Whereas I look like kids looked back in the 2010s. I had small, very unflattering glasses; braids on both sides, my hair stuck up in every direction, my head was red from the exercise in the early summer heat and I wore old, weird and way too small clothes. "Girl! You had the glow-up of the century! You looked terrible!" one of the girls laughs. "Well.. thanks..." I snip back at her. Nick looks at me, softly shaking his head at the comments, giving me a cheering smile. The waiter bringing our food saved me from further comments and the topic is off the table for now. The girls continue attacking him with questions, this time about his rugby career and his studies. I focus on my food, trying to stand above the rather hurtful comments from before.
Part of the group left directly after they finished their lunch since they had classes afterwards. The rest of us leaves the restaurant together. "Sooo! This was fun! We should definitely do this again!" Lily smiles at Nick. "Yeah...sure", he nods. "We are going downtown, will you come?" Vivian asks. "Nah... I need some stuff from the library. Have fun" he denies their request with a polite smile. "I'm heading in the same direction! See ya!" I say before saying goodbye to them. Nick and I walk back to campus, not talking much, but the silence isn't awkward at all. He starts giggling "Fuck! What year were those pictures from? Can we sue the schools?" I laugh at his question. "I wish! That picture of me is a crime!" "I mean, it is so 2010s but it is also very cute!" he claims, looking at me with wrinkles around his eyes since he is smiling so brightly. I automatically smile back at him before shaking my head in disagreement. "No! That's as far from cute as possible!" I pause for a moment, before continuing "But honestly? I haven't thought about my school time like that in a long time." He nods "Yeah, crazy times! I miss home and the old times sometimes.." I shrug, "I like it here too much to miss home." We arrive at the library. "My books are on the third floor", I explain. "Mine are on the fourth", Nick says and smiles. "I guess I'll see you?", I ask. "You definitely will", he says while pulling me in for a hug. I hug him back, again, enjoying his warmth.
'Cause in your warmth I forget how cold it can be And in your heat I feel how cold it can get Hold me in this wild, wild, world - Warmth, Bastille

i know you’ve talked about lorelai and emily from gg before, but what were your thoughts on lorelai and richard?
i mean obviously there’s more of a mother-daughter focus on the show since that’s what it revolves around, but it always did kinda bother me that richard was - in a way - the one to open up the “you got pregnant at 16 and chose to throw away the opportunities i gave you” discussion in s1 (i believe it was in the episode where rory meets her other grandparents). and then the show kinda never addressed it again in that specific way, even though i genuinely think expanding on that scene alone more would’ve made lorelai’s relationship with emily and richard more interesting than irritating. bc i get that they were controlling, but the idea that we never see them be disappointed beyond that, and that that hypothetical disappointment never seems like a contributing factor to lorelai leaving, always felt kinda unrealistic to me. like you meant to tell me you became a teen mom and your parents with incredibly high expectations weren’t let down in some way? they simply jumped to trying to marry you off and when that didn’t work they - quite literally - left you alone to live in their mansion???
they - quite literally - left you alone to live in their mansion???
I'm not sure what you mean by this? Are you talking about the flashback? Because they didn't leave her alone to live in the house
Tumblr media
It's just that they were going out the night that Lorelai had left as if it were business as usual
Tumblr media
and the thing about the flashbacks is that if Richard and Lorelai are having this conversation in the present
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and we're meant to see all the reasons why Lorelai would've left at sixteen with no plan to then live in a shed at the back of a hotel then in the flashback episodes I'm going to need to see what Lorelai is talking about way more directly in scenes that matter.
With Emily, yes, she yells at Lorelai while she's in labour for leaving a note and I'm not saying Emily was right for that because the whole thing is that if she were supportive, instead of yelling at Lorelai for not telling her, she would've asked if she's OK, if she's in pain, if she needs anything, she would just be there for Lorelai, I get that. But I also can't help but wonder what would Emily's reaction be if Lorelai actually just told her. It's kind of like when Emily reacted to Lorelai's news about marrying Max exactly the way she thought she would and it's only because Lorelai didn't tell her that she was getting married and she had to find out from Sookie and the whole point is that there's so much shit between them that by Lorelai attempting to protect herself it causes more friction except the shit between them needs more fleshing out. So, I would've rather a scene in the flashback where Lorelai and Emily are in the middle of an argument about something to do with the baby and Lorelai doesn't take Emily's advice so she picks at Lorelai and gets really sarcastic and is like "Oh, what would I know about babies, I only raised a child -- at an appropriate age I might add -- I only have x amount of years of experience, but I suppose that doesn't matter in the face of my teenage daughter's say so etc. etc." and then Emily leaves while continuing to rant, Lorelai feels her contractions and she slips out of the house to go to the hospital while Emily is still ranting in the background and THEN we can get the scene with the yelling and the note.
Which then leads to Richard and this specific qualm he brought up. In the flashback episode, instead of the scene with the note starting with them arguing about his scarf, change it to something like they're going to a dinner with his firm and Emily doesn't want to go and the two of them bicker back and forth about saving face, about salvaging their reputation, there's a passive aggressive remarks about Lorelai being unwed, they have to stand tall no matter how they feel about Lorelai's shortcomings etc. so we can see what their priorities are and see how Lorelai would be made to feel in that house.
and then the show kinda never addressed it again in that specific way,
the show attempts to do address the issues in that conversation with a couple of story lines but they're mostly entwined with Rory so namely when Richard meets Dean
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and when Richard and Lorelai have that out about Yale
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it's supposed to be this undercurrent that permeates every conversation they have with each other but again the problem is that we don't see how Lorelai is a sore spot for Richard to talk about outside of his argument with Strobe.
But the main issue with Richard is meant to be this
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(which is also supposed to be the issue with Emily)
Tumblr media
and we're supposed to see that with the way he came up with the plan to have Lorelai and Christopher get married without asking either of them how they felt. Although in that scene what we see is Richard coming up with a plan and not asking anyone how they felt including Strobe, Francine and Emily.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, after he defends her from Strobe, when Lorelai says that she feels sorry for him, he's like well save your emotions and Lorelai's just like OK so we're just going to end our conversation here, nothing resolved? and Richard essentially says yes
Tumblr media
but the issue here for me is that I don't really see Richard do this. Richard is just a person who is uncomfortable with emotions in general, when Lorelai graduates and he gives her some money as a present she says genuinely, "Thank you, Daddy" and you see him flustered and he just nods and leaves. We don't see how he responds or doesn't respond to Lorelai when she refuses to get married.
When they have their Yale blow up, she's the one who misses two dinners and doesn't return Emily's calls, when Rory reveals that she applied to Yale as well, Lorelai has a tantrum at the table in front of guests, and storms out, when he and Lorelai get into that argument after they spend the day together he's like, you've never invited me to your house, so really what I'm seeing is that when Emily and Richard do something she can't control, she's the one who freezes them out and it's supposed to be a defence mechanism and a way to cut off people who are toxic for you but the toxicity of Richard and Emily are things I needed to see in action more frequently and more directly for it all to make sense in more than just theory because even the episode he spends the day in Stars Hollow, was he annoying? Sure. But he was annoying in the way parents are when they still parent you as an adult so the whole thing seems really overblown to me.

I had just gone to sleep when a Doth thought decided to pop into my brain, because, sure! why not?
Draxum wins and gets to die peacefully in his bed after believing he has completed his objectives, only to be greeted by the cold stare of his family in the afterlife who do not hesitate to condemn him reproaching him for his actions in life, only to deliver him after into the furious hands of the spirits of the Hamato clan who are more than eager to get their hands on him to punish him, especially Splinter, because obviously he is there and believe me he never forgot what Draxum took from him.
And to top it all off! When his son gets to the afterlife he has to watch him suffer for the revelation of what his 'father' really did to him, because how does brainwashing work on a ghost when the brain stays on earth?
And not to mention Cass, who I imagine was the one who was most aware that the Utopia Draxum promised didn't really come true.
The point is, that it will be a hell for Draxum.
Anyway, do you think Splinter looks like Lou jitsu in the afterlife? I mean, when they were taking out his soul during the final ep his soul looked like Lou jitsu.
It's like the scene at the end of Corpse Bride where the guy who kills Emily drinks the poison and all the dead people are like "hooray he's blue! That means we get to torture him now!"
Oh yeah, whatever afterlife exists in the TMNT universe, brainwashing definitely does not carry over. Donnie would have a lot of Words for Draxy.
Nope, Splints would still be Lou. Not sure if he would be forties hunky Lou Jitsu or what Lou would have looked like as an elder-his mother appears young, but it also looks like his mother was young when she passed.
It really highlights the difference between Rise Splinter and 2012 Splinter. 2012 Splinter still appeared as a rat as a spirit because he had come to view that as his body. His mutation and adoption of the turtles was something of a rebirth for him, and after the initial grieving period was over he fully embraced what he was, was happy with it. Even when Donnie created the retromutagen, his response was basically "I'm good, use it on someone who needs it."
Where Rise Splinter still fully sees himself as The Great Lou Jitsu trapped in a rat body. Which-I mean, fair, 2012 Splinter got to be over six feet tall, built like a ninja, and has fur that doesn't make him look like grandpa has a body hair problem. Rise Splinter physically shrunk and is all bent over-his spine probably hurts him quite a bit, honestly, and he just...does not look good. (I've seen the discourse about how badly caricaturized Rise Splinter's design is and-like, I do give TMNT a pass on Splinter being a rat because 1) originally he was just a rat, he wasn't supposed to be a human turned into one, and 2) the whole premise of TMNT was started as a joke and a parody of other popular superhero comics at the time and was never supposed to become this big thing-but YEAH, I don't know how they got that design through. Especially when this show does such a good job of humanizing Splinter as a character and making him act like an actual first-gen immigrant parent and not reducing him to a cluster of Wise Old Asian stereotypes, but then they draw him like that?) Splinter is shown to have practically dysphoria over his body, because he still thinks and feels very much like the Lou Jitsu of legend, but then he looks down and his body is just wrong.
And yeah, he's happier now than he was as Lou Jitsu, because he has his boys. He'd rather be a rat dad than a single and childless movie star. That doesn't mean he isn't allowed to long for aspects of his previous life. That doesn't mean he has to be happy about absolutely everything. I just feel like that was such a good take. It makes him feel so human.

Author's Note: This is a PLL fanfic that I mainly started writing for myself. I'm a die hard PLL fan but, like a lot of other people, I was thoroughly disappointed with a lot of their choices so I decided to try my hand at writing what I wanted to happen in the story. I've never written fanfic, as most of my writing experience has been via Tumblr rp's but I thought I'd give this a try!
Tumblr media
September 1st, 2009. That was a night that Aria Montgomery would never forget, not for as long as she lived. That was the night that everything had changed.
It’d be silly to ever think that she could erase those memories from her brain, so she didn’t even try. Instead, she had decided to accept it–after all, what else was there to do? Things had happened–things that were never supposed to happen. Yet, the events of that September night had changed everything. As Lady Macbeth famously said, “What is done cannot be undone.”
By sunrise, the whole town of Rosewood knew that blonde bombshell queen bee Alison DiLaurentis was missing and nothing would ever be the same again.
Even now, after a year had passed, Aria was still unsure about how she felt about the entire situation. As she unpacked her boxes and placed her books back in their rightful place, she thought about everything that had happened and the impact her choices had had upon everyone.
One thing was for certain–she was grateful to be back in her own bedroom. The warm, dark wood of her bedroom floor and bed frame were certainly much cozier than the cold, white walls she had grown accustomed to this past year. It felt good to be back at home again.
Of course, to the outside world, she’d been away on a special study abroad program in Iceland this past year, an incredible opportunity that had happened to arise in Aria’s time of need. Her little brother, Mike, had even agreed to try to keep her Facebook page updated with beautiful pictures of the stunning fjords of Reykjavik. However, the truth of Aria’s whereabouts were much more…complicated, per se, than a study abroad trip to Iceland.
She’d spent this past year locked away hiding away in Radley Medical Center, trying to repair her fragmented mental state. After September 1st, it hadn’t taken very long at all for her parents, Byron and Ella, to figure out that her best friend’s friend’s disappearance had taken a serious toll on her mental health. As soon as the “MISSING PERSON” fliers went up, Aria just about lost it. After attempting to take her own life near the end of September 2009, her parents felt as if they had no other choice but to try and get her the help that she needed.
However, in the town of Rosewood, being “mentally ill” was not acceptable, or even relatable–sure, everyone had their own struggles but you kept that quiet and to yourself. It was the “polite” thing to do. Besides, after Aria had woken up in a hospital room, realizing her attempt had been unsuccessful, she couldn’t face her friends–hell, it was nearly impossible to face her own family, especially her little brother. Therefore, it was decided: Aria would go to Radley Medical Center in order to heal, and no one would ever know. To the outside world, she’d be experiencing an incredible opportunity overseas in Iceland and none would be the wiser.
It was quite the ruse and honestly, her parents had been a little unsure about the entire thing. Sure, people who were open about their family problems were judged harshly in Rosewood but who even cared about petty scrutiny and gossip if their daughter wasn’t okay? But it was Aria that had begged her parents to keep the truth a secret, only letting the principal of Rosewood High School know what was actually going on so she could continue her studies.
Now, after nearly twelve straight months of intensive therapy and “rest,” Aria was ready to return to the real world of Rosewood and continue on with her life. Still, the night of September 1st, 2009 still haunted her–more than anyone would ever know.
In just a few weeks–and still, years from now–the town of Rosewood would be full of gossip: gossip about a particularly handsome new teacher and his apparent penchant for underage girls. Yes, by now, it’s no secret that Ezra Fitz had been taken with Aria Montgomery when they first met at the Hollis Pub the day before school started. However, what a lot of people don’t mention is how Ezra was able to manipulate his way into Aria’s life and strike when she was most vulnerable.
You’ll come to find very soon that everyone in the town of Rosewood has flaws and secrets–absolutely everyone. But some things are more forgivable than others. And what was unconditionally unforgivable was a grown man preying on the innocent young girls of Rosewood High. Ezra had zeroed in on Aria and was just waiting for the perfect opportunity to pounce.
After all, Ezra was already well aware of Aria’s own secret–well, at least one of them. You see, during his junior and senior year at Hollis, he had heard rumors about Professor Montgomery and one of his grad students. Now, Ezra didn’t usually listen to gossip–he believed himself to be above all of that. However, it had become rather difficult to simply ignore the rumors about a professor taking advantage of one of his students. Though he’d never actually had a class with Professor Montgomery, he knew of him and figured that the rumors were probably true.
Once he put two and two together–that Aria was the daughter of Bryon Montgomery–he knew that he had an in. He was aware that it was rather ironic. But this was different, he told himself. Ezra knew she was in a susceptible position–she needed guidance, someone to talk to, a shoulder to cry on. That’s what Ezra told himself and that’s what he set out to do. Truthfully, as cunning as she was, Aria never stood a chance against someone so sinister.
However, that didn’t mean that Aria didn’t have her own ammunition. Sure, her family was holding on by a thread–but the other girls had their own secrets, too. They always had. Luckily, Aria had always been incredibly observant. Though she could certainly have her moments of outspokenness, she also knew how to sit back and listen. One could learn a lot of information when they were simply listening.
Take Hanna Marin, for example. Poor little Hefty Hanna–Aria had always detested that nickname that Alison had placed upon Hanna’s head. It was cruel and unnecessary. But Alison was the queen bee and whatever she said simply…was. However, anyone with eyes could see the toll that it took on Hanna. Aria remembered that one time, during a sleepover, the girls had been enjoying chick flicks and ice cream. They had been watching Mean Girls, one of Alison’s favorites. Aria always assumed it was because she viewed herself as Regina George.
Just before the Burn Book fight scene started–arguably one of the best scenes in the film–Hanna had gotten up to go to the bathroom. Aria thought it a bit odd but continued watching and laughing along with the other girls. But the minutes continued to pass and Hanna still wasn’t back. Curious, Aria mentioned checking on Hanna and got up off the couch and headed to the bathroom, her feet padding on the hardwood floor. When she got to the bathroom door, the unmistakable sounds of retching came from the other side of the door. Aria gave a small knock on the door. “Hanna?... Are you okay?” Hanna cleared her throat and quickly said “Yeah, I’m fine. I’ll be right out.”
Sure, Aria probably should’ve said something about it–but what could she say? Hanna was clearly embarrassed, you could hear it in her voice. Wouldn’t it just make it worse to question her about it? Aria tried to tell herself that maybe Hanna’s stomach had just been acting up but deep down, she knew the truth. She knew how Alison made Hanna feel like shit about her body–honestly, it wasn’t very surprising that Hanna would attempt to find comfort in bingeing and purging. It made Aria’s heart sink but what else could she do?
As far as Spencer and Emily went, their secrets weren’t too difficult to figure out, either. Really, all you had to do was have eyes. The way Spencer so desperately wanted to be like her older sister, Melissa, was obvious to everyone. On top of that, the brains of their group suddenly seemed to become a brainless lovestruck girl whenever her sister’s skeezy boyfriend, Ian, walked into the room. He was not only her field hockey coach but, as everyone figured, most likely her future brother-in-law as well. However, no one could deny the brunette’s heart eyes whenever Ian cracked a subpar joke.
Emily was somehow even more obvious. Between the odd comments from Alison and the way you could practically feel Emily’s giddiness radiating from her every time the blonde bombshell simply spoke, it was clear to anyone with a brain that Emily was in love with Alison. Not to mention the time that Aria had accidentally overheard one of their conversations during another infamous sleepover. She’d forgotten her phone in Emily’s room and when she was approaching the doorway, she overheard the distinct sing-song sweetness of Alison’s voice. It was the voice she used whenever she really, really wanted something
“Look, Em, I’m sorry that I was so mean to you the other day in the locker room. I didn’t mean to snap at you, I just… I just don’t feel…that way. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t still kiss–but only if you want to, of course.”
Alison’s voice was sugary sweet and full of softness–god, she was such a manipulative bitch. Don’t fall for it, Em, Aria thought to herself. But then, seconds later, Aria could hear the undeniable sounds of lips locking, so she slipped back downstairs and never told another soul.
Truth be told, Aria was mildly horrified at the state of her friend group when she returned to Rosewood High. The girls hadn’t even tried to remain close to one another? The brunette realized that it was going to be a lot more difficult to get her friends back together than she initially thought.
What horrified her even more, though, was the face that she saw at the front of the classroom during first period on the very first day of junior year. It was none other than Ezra, the man boy from the bar. He looked just as equally horrified to see her face and she was certain that he’d never speak to her again. And honestly, if he were even half a decent man, he would have quit his job right then and there–but of course, “decent” was the last word anyone would use to describe Ezra Fitz.
The situation with her English teacher might’ve fully taken over Aria’s brain that night if it hadn’t been for the sirens that began to ring out around 9PM, just as Aria was about to get ready for bed. The sirens were down the street but something made Aria’s blood run cold and she followed that feeling out onto the sidewalk. Sure enough, the sirens were just a few streets over, down by the DiLaurentis house. Oh, fuck.
Alison DiLaurentis’ body was found buried under the gazebo her parents had put up the previous summer. The backyard had been under construction at the time, making it the perfect place to dispose of a body.
The day of Alison’s funeral was what finally brought all the girls back together. They sat with each other in the same pew, as if no time had ever passed. While waiting for the service to begin, the four girls realized that they’d all been getting messages from a mysterious person who signed their messages with nothing but an “A.” Was it “A” for Anonymous? It couldn’t have been “A” for Alison. After all…her body was lying in a closed casket just feet away from them.’
However, it wasn’t until the very end of the service that the girls realized how serious all of this was. Detective Wilden, a hot shot police officer, approached the girls and vowed to find out what happened the night that Alison disappeared, which sent a chill down Aria’s spine. Just as he walked away, all of the girls’ cell phones eerily rang at the same time and the threatening message stared back at them through the screen:
“I’m still here, bitches, and I know everything - A”

Hogwarts Overexposed Chapter 10: Twists and Turns
Welcome back, yet again. It´s already been several months since the last time I sporked this fic, and today was th only day I really had time to do the spork.
Despite the title of the chapter being "Twists and Turns", this truly is a very boring chapter.
Let´s get in.
Monday, September 5, 2005
What a difference a year makes, Emily thought to herself as she watched Kim sleeping contentedly. When they first met, Kim was the shyest, most worried first year you could ever imagine. I honestly love how this has to repeated again and again, instead of actually being shown her character developement. Her anxiety was only amplified when her dorm-mates mistakenly jumped to the conclusion that she was a nudist and she ended up having to live the lie.
Why are we told things we already know?
Back then, Kim couldn't wait to close her bed hangings in order to hide her embarrassment at being naked. Now her hangings were wide open and Kim was sleeping coverless, her loveliness completely exposed. One might even say Overexposed!
Cut for boring talks and yet another argument with Janice and Denise - who are the same person essentially - who call Kim and Emily Queer.
"We're not done yet," Emily said, smirking. "Remember, I promised to soap you up."
Oh no -_- "I don't think we should do that," Kim said, suddenly sounding quite serious. "I'm afraid I might like it." Before Emily could respond, Marta considering that her name is spelled "Marta" instead of the typical english spelling "Martha", does that mean that she´s hungarian? entered the room. At first she just stared at them, without speaking. "You guys really do love each other, don't you?" she asked, seeming very impressed. "But not in the way you tried to make Denise and Janice believe." "We're not gay if that's what you mean," Kim admitted, "but I'd do anything for Emily. Other than my Mum, I've never loved a person so much."
At this point it´s not entirely clear if she´s referring to her late biological mother or Hermione, as Jamie and Emilys parents have more or less become forgotten after the end of Too Exposed. "I love her as much as I do Jamie and Caitlin. She's my sister," Emily avowed. Marta studied them both cautiously as if she had something significant to share, but was extremely tentative. "Kim, did you mean what you said? Do you really not let sexual orientation affect how you feel about people? How about you, Emily? Do you think people who are gay are weird?"
I think this is just again a good place to remind people that Neil feels creeped out by gay men, but seems to go with the "girl on girl is hot" trope that´s become increasingly frawned upon since then.
And keep in mind these girls are around 12-14, which makes it even creepier. Emily wavered, not certain just how much private information about herself she wanted to reveal to Marta with her answer. "I treat people the way they treat me," she said. "Their sexual preferences are their own business." She faltered before adding, "It's not right for me to judge other people, when I can't even completely figure myself out. I'm only twelve, but I'm pretty sure I'm heterosexual." She took a deep breath. "But there is a good chance I might be bisexual." "Why are you asking all these questions?" Kim asked. "Because it's hard to always be hiding your true feelings. It would be nice to have someone you could trust; someone you could let your guard down in front of." It was Marta's turn to take a deep breath. "Becky and I are a couple," she said quickly and then waited for a response.
Dun dunn duuuunnnnnnnn "How long have you been together?" was the first question out of Kim's mouth. "We've known each other since we were five," Marta answered, "but we've only been doing things to each other since we were ten."
"....doing thigs to each other since we were ten"
NEIL YOU SICKO "Ten?" Emily repeated in amazement. "You both knew you were gay at ten?" "Not for sure. We just knew we liked to touch each other and be touched. It wasn't until we met you two that we were sure we were homosexuals," Marta explained.
Does this sound like something a 12 year old would say? "What did we have to do with it?" Kim asked. Marta face turned a bright red. "Well, to be perfectly honest, the two of you running around in the buff all the time got both Becky and I rather keyed up." Emily and Kim exchanged nervous looks. "Don't worry, neither of us ever considered approaching either of you. We had each other to satisfy our wants. FUCK YOU NEIL FUCK YOU Besides, you both had us somewhat confused as to whether you liked boys or girls or both." "Do we still get you excited?" Kim asked uncertainly. "You both have attractive bodies, and Becky and I admittedly enjoy looking at you; similar to how someone looks at sexy pictures in a magazine." NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THIS IS SO WRONG FUCK YOU NEIL Marta paused. "I'm only confiding all this to you because we're tired of hiding our feelings. We want to be open about how we feel about each other, but we'd like to know that at least you two supported us." "You both supported us last year," Emily said, without faltering. "I'll be there for you." "That goes for me too," Kim said. "But...." "You want to know how we can be sure about our feelings and choices," Marta said, as if reading Kim's mind. "We can't be absolutely positive. The two of us only know how we feel when we're together and neither of us wants that feeling to ever end." "I envy you both," Emily sighed. "I hope you both still feel the same about each other a hundred years from now." "I hope you and Kim both still share the marvelous friendship you have," Marta said sincerely. "I also hope that knowing about Becky and I won't make you self-conscious in front of us." "Not in the least," Emily replied. "I can't think of any circumstances in which I'd prefer to be clothed rather than nude."
Because the token lesbian couple can´t possibly com out as a couple on their own without the help of the Sues.
* * * * *
When Emily and Kim returned to the dorm after completing their showers, they found Becky and Marta both sitting on Becky's bed talking conspiratorially. The four girls exchanged knowing smiles as Kim and Emily dressed for breakfast.
Getting dressed must be torture for them. "Did I miss a lot on Thursday and Friday?" Emily asked concernedly. "Not really," Kim said. "It was mostly review of stuff we learned last year. Today should be interesting though. This morning we have our first 'Anatomy of the Sexes' class with Professor Weasley, and then this afternoon Professor Longbottom is going to have us transplant Mandrakes in Herbology."
The "Anatomy of the Sexes" part is going to lead to one of the most infamous scenes from this fic.
Wait, you thought it was over once the long awaited freudian "Hooch gets impaled by a Unicorn" scene?
Think again. "Which one of the Weasleys do we have, the male or the female?" Emily asked. "The one with boobs," -____- Kim answered. "She is teaching first and second years." "Somehow I doubt we'll learn anything in that class," Emily said assuredly. "I just can't picture Professor Weasley discussing sex frankly with a room full of twelve year olds, and the textbook looks like it is out of the Dark Ages." "I think she'll be much better than her brother," Kim answered. "He's teaching the third and fourth years."
Because even Kim needs to join in on the Ron bashing that´s so prevalent in this Saga. "You guys about ready?" Becky asked, giving Kim and Emily a smile. "As soon as I slip on my skirt," Emily said, adjusting her mini. "I can't believe you two tarts," Denise said with revulsion. "OMG you guys are so scary!" said Britney "It's bad enough neither of you ever wear bras, but how can you parade around in such short skirts without knickers?" Neither girl verbally answered Denise. Emily did, however, bend over while lifting her skirt to moon Denise and Janice and showed them her middle finger. As they neared the door to their dorm room, Becky and Marta exchanged nervous glances before reaching out and clutching each other's hand tightly. "What do you say?" Emily asked, giving Kim a devilish smile. "Should we give the school something to really talk about?" "That depends on what you have in mind," Kim answered coyly. "I have no problem with you holding my hand, but I'll scream if you grab my butt in public."
The latter is something that is rather in character for Emily. "Would I do that?" Emily asked, starting to slip her hand under Kim's skirt. Kim slapped her hand away. "You're worse than Randy."
Randy, who gets more and more forgotten as this fic goes along.
Speaking of Randy, his character is so pointless and with no characterisation whatsoever that I can´t help but imagine him to look like the NPC meme.
Tumblr media
(couldnt find a gif of the meme, but this one extols the same energy) "Speaking of Randy, how are the two of you getting along?" Emily asked. "Have you heard anything from Brian?"
Isnt it interesting that Kim falls in love with an American the summer before Hogwarts is having a big event competing with a magical school from the US?
"Now what's going on?" Harry said, looking dumbfounded, as he realised he had been transported into a bizarro fanfic where he for years acted out of character surrounded by Mary Sues! Becky and Marta entered the Great Hall followed closely by Kim and Emily, both couples holding hands.
Oh, the horror!
"I'm not sure I want to know," Hermione said shaking her head in consternation.
"You don't think they're, what do they call it, coming out of the closet... do you?" Harry asked.
"I don't know," Hermione answered, looking rather bewildered. "It would seem to me that twelve would be rather young to be sure of one's sexual penchant. Although I did notice what seemed to be a definite magnetism between Marta and Becky last year."
Which is something she only talks about now.
"Neither of them is my daughter," Harry said, alarm evident in his voice. "What about Emily and Kim? I thought they both were fond of boys."
Cut for a lengthy section of Becky and Martas big coming out along with big praise for the Sues that goes on forever.
Emily gave Kim an angry look, but before she could reply, there was a rushing sound overhead and her attention was drawn to the arrival of a hundred or so owls. The owls circled the hall, dumping letters and packages into the chattering crowd.
This is apparently a big thing. Uncharacteristically, the hall suddenly became extremely quiet. Emily looked toward the head table expecting to see the Headmaster standing ready to speak, but instead she saw what had caused everyone in the room to become hushed. There was a large screech owl circling the head table. That was not unusual because the staff received mail regularly. What had gotten everyone's attention was the red envelope clutched in the owl's beak. "One of the Professors is getting a Howler," Caitlin whispered to her sister.
MUH G00000D
Tumblr media
I've never seen that before in my seven years," Jamie said aghast. "Who would be so disrespectful as to send a professor a howler when they are surrounded by students?"
Ah, the Purity Sue in Jamie speaks again. It´s been a while. "I wonder who it's for?" Caitlin asked, but the words had barely escaped her lips, when the owl came to rest next to the Headmaster and politely offered the letter to him.
Well, at least the owl is polite. Katie and Severus exchanged edgy looks and then Katie did something she had never done before in public. She placed her hand reassuringly on top of Severus', reciting the Blessing of Aharon. "You better open it," she said in an apprehensive whisper. "They only get worse the longer you delay. Best you get it over with." "Who would be so juvenile and discourteous as to send the Headmaster a Howler?" Hermione asked disgustedly. "And at breakfast, of all times." "I would be willing to venture a guess," Harry said, a bad taste residing in his mouth, but it looks like we're all about to find out."
The way it is written makes it look like it´s something Harry said in all one sentence. Severus stretched out his hand, relieved the envelop from the owl's beak, and slit it open. For a moment it seemed like the envelope had exploded; a roar of sound filled the Great Hall.
"--JUST WHO THE BLOODY HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? --"
Percy Weasley's voice roared, a hundred times louder than normal. The students stared at the head table, as the bellowing voice echoed off the stonewalls of the hall,
"THE STORY THAT APPEARED IN THE DAILY PROPHET DID SO WITH MY APPROVAL. I PERSONALLY VERIFIED ALL THE DETAILS. HOW DARE YOU HAVE THE GALL TO SUGGEST THAT I, THE MINISTER OF MAGIC, WOULD APPROVE A STORY THAT WAS NOT FULLY FACTUAL? "WHEN I ATTENDED HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY, I CONSIDERED YOU TO BE A PROFESSIONAL, COMPETENT TEACHER. IT IS REGRETFUL THAT YOU HAVE FALLEN VICTIM TO THE LIES OF HARRY POTTER AND HIS MISGUIDED LEGION. "I AM NOT A SPITEFUL OR VENGEFUL MAN AND UNDERSTAND THAT EVEN THE BEST OF US OCCASIONALLY FALTER. SHOULD YOU, HOWEVER, CONTINUE TO MISLEAD THE STUDENTS OF HOGWARTS, IT WILL BE MY SAD DUTY TO SEEK YOUR DISMISSAL AS HEADMASTER. Sincerely, Percy Weasley Minister of Magic
Oh well. Again, how am I supposed to take him serious as an antagonist?
Snape calmly rose to his feet as the letter burst into flames. "It is at times like these that people, even students as young as yourselves, are required to make choices, tough choices. I propose that you make your future decisions based on past history. When Lord Voldemort returned in the nineteen-nineties and sought to once again rule our world, Harry Potter and former Headmaster Albus Dumbledore attempted to warn the wizarding world. The Ministry and The Daily Prophet disparaged them both. Fortunately, we learned before it was too late who was giving us truthful information. We should learn from history where to place our trust."
This whole plot recycling after the release of the fifth book makes it all seem so forced and ridicculous.
And keep in mind, all the things from the fifth year onward from both the fics he stole it from are still canon inside this fic together with actual canon! Without further comment Snape took his seat. At first, the Great Hall remained quiet. Then as the students rose to their feet in order to head for their first class of the day, the talk became incessant.
* * * * *
"What if he has you removed as Headmaster?" Katie asked concernedly. "Where will you go? What will you do?" She grasped Severus' hand. "What will become of us?"
Remember:
Snape and Katie Bell are an actual couple in this fic now.
And no, his infatuation with his former students are never called out on.
"The Ministry has absolutely no authority when it comes to running Hogwarts," Severus said confidently. "Albus Dumbledore took care of that after all the difficulty with Fudge and that vicious Umbridge woman. Only the school Board of Governors can remove the Headmaster and that takes a two-thirds majority."
Umbridge, who now officially is part of the canon and hasnt been mentioned until this very point.
The most fun part about is that this fic is getting it´s own form of Umbridge in the next chapter. Just not as well written.
"But what if he goes to the Board and they agree to remove you?" Katie asked, not convinced that Severus' job was secure.
"As long as I have the support of Harry, Hermione and Ron, I'm not concerned," Severus explained. "There are a lot of new, younger Board members now; they respect the Covenant and won't be easily bamboozled by someone like Percy Weasley. Besides, I doubt he'll even approach them. He won't want to take the chance of looking weak if they refused his request."
"No matter what happens, I'll be by your side," Katie declared.
"I knew I could count on that," Severus replied, with a smile.
And now, let´s get back to the most important stuff:
"You never answered my question this morning," Emily said, as she and Kim took seats next to each other for their first 'Anatomy of the Sexes' class. "Has Brian written you at all?"
Kim didn't answer, but instead glowed pink as she held up six fingers.
"He's written you six letters," Emily said excitedly. "You must have really made an impression on him."
"I like him, too," Kim said shyly. "If only he wasn't a Muggle. It makes things so complicated. Even posting him a letter is a pain."
FORESHADOWING
"When are you going to tell Randy?" Emily asked.
Randy who?
"I don't know what to do where he is concerned," Kim said concernedly. "He's really nice and I don't want to hurt him. He lost Caitlin to Matt and you to Tyler. If I break up with him, it will be a nasty blow to his ego. Besides, what are the odds of Brian and I ever even seeing each other again, let alone becoming a couple? He's in the United States and I'm here."
I don´t remember it ever actually being stated that Kim and Randy were an official couple.
"I understand where you are coming from," Emily said supportively, "but somehow it just seems wrong to leave Randy under the impression that he is the foremost guy in your life when you are writing Brian. How about Brian, does he know about Randy?"
"No," Kim said hanging her head. "I was afraid he'd stop writing if he knew I had a boyfriend."
This drama seems even more ridicculous when you realise what a non-entity so far, he was just "there", but never had any character arc or any other thing going on apart from being one of Caitlins simps.
The girls' conversation was brought to a halt by Ginny bringing the class to order.
"You won't be needing your wands in this class," she said with a smile. "We'll be talking about a different kind of magic; the magic of love, intimacy, conception and birth. Although we will be following the printed guidelines in your textbooks, I want you to feel free to ask questions at any time and I'll do my best to answer them. Since this is our first session together, I think we should get to know each other. Suppose you each stand and introduce yourself. Then ask me a question that has been on your mind. Who wants to start?"
The way she talks makes me think about that one American Dad episode where they had sex ed and Steve gets laughed at for a stupid question.
The students all exchanged glances, but no one raised their hand.
"I realize that you're all nervous," Professor Weasley said. "You probably aren't used to discussing sex in a mixed group. Thought was initially given to having separate classes for boys and girls, but the final decision was that you should be taught together. Would anyone like to venture a guess as to why it was decided it was best to instruct you as a mixed group?"
At first no one moved, but then a hand timidly rose. "Yes, Miss Thatcher. What do you think was the reason?"
"We'll all be having sex together, so we should learn about it together," Kim said softly.
This is so stupid.
"Hopefully not all at once," Ginny said, straight faced.
When the inference of what Ginny had said settled in, the class broke into laughter. Even Kim laughed at her slip.
"That would be called an orgy, and something we hopefully won't be discussing," Professor Weasley said with a laugh as she put her hand on Kim's shoulder. "We all know what you meant, but I appreciate you breaking the tension. We will also be discussing same-sex relationships, but for the moment, let's confine our discussion to heterosexual, or boy/girl relationships."
This delivery sounds so natural.
As the giggles subsided, Emily's hand went in the air.
Oh no.....
"Our first question," Ginny said, her voice sounding both pleased and edgy.
Tumblr media
"Emily Zacherley-Potter," she said in introduction. "I've been a nudist all my life. That doesn't necessarily give me a heads up when it comes to knowledge about sex, but I probably have seen more naked people than anyone else in the room. I've noticed that some men have extremely large things. What happens if you fall in love with someone and it doesn't fit in your twat when you want to make love?"
FUCK YOU NEIL, FUCK YOU!
Cut, this goes on for so long.
The section ends with Kim announcing that she really loves observing penises.
Cut for a boring scene with Caitlin and Matt, who among other things discuss why Percy doesnt believe her testimony.
We then cut to Ginny and Draco:
"Red, have you ever thought about having kids?" Draco asked, ostensibly out of nowhere, as they headed for lunch.
Because in this Saga, that´s all women are made for.
Ginny stopped abruptly and gawked open mouthed at him. Draco normally avoided any words in conversation that started with letters in the middle of the alphabet such as L for love and M for marriage. So, of course, Ginny never expected to ever hear him utter the K word.
As in the K word in Afrikaans?
"Draco, I come from a large family. Naturally I've thought of having children; not as many as my Mum, of course, but I'd like at least two." Ginny quickly recovered as she kept in mind Draco's usual aversion of any discussion involving marriage. "But it's not something I desperately want," she lied. "I'm content teaching and having you as a lover."
Keep in mind that in this Saga, Mrs Weasley had even more children, as there were two sisters who got killed by Death Eaters shortly before Voldemorts defeat.
Come to think of it, they also haven´t been mentioned since the first fic.
"You like Timmy, don't you?" Draco asked.
"Of course I do," Ginny answered. Suddenly there was concern in her voice. "Draco, please tell me that you're not thinking of trying to take him away from Sam and Ron again."
Even Neil has gotten tired of that already ridicculous plot.
"No! I couldn't do that," Draco replied despondently. "Sam loves him too much. Besides, she's a great mother. Your git of a brother isn't half bad as a surrogate father either. Plus, they've both been first-rate by allowing me to play an ever-increasing part in Timmy's up bringing. I was more thinking of a kid I could be with from the moment he popped out of the oven."
"Have you given any thought as to how old you want to be when you conceive this progeny?" Ginny asked sheepishly.
"That's the tough part," Draco grumbled. "I don't want to wait until I'm an old fart that can't even straddle a broom anymore to teach his kid how to play Quidditch. Yet, I don't want to toss aside my wild youthful years and settle down with one woman too quickly. Maybe I'll be ready when I'm about twenty-five."
Cut for boring, it ends with Draco proposing to her - and this time Neil remembers that her full first name is Ginevra, not Virginia, as she was called in the first two fics.
We get another boring scene with Caitlin and Matt, in which the sudden character assasination Matt begins.
Matt is suddenly evil because he wants Caitlin to wear knickers so others can´t look up her skirt.
Caitlin is not very pleased with this, and thinks about an answer for later.
We then get back to the actual plot of the Saga:
"Can you remember the names of anymore of these Death Eaters?" Salazar Slytherin asked. "They sound like the type of people that would readily support me."
Tumblr media
Goyle shook his head. "We were just ending our seventh year when He-Who-Must-Not-Be Named was defeated. Many of his followers were killed in battles preceding his demise."
Goyle saying this. Just look at that dialogue. Slytherin paced the room for a few moments in silence, before speaking again. "You will first personally contact all the living former Death Eaters. I want you to offer them the opportunity to unreservedly join me. They should provide us with a strong nucleus." "What if they refuse?" Crabbe asked anxiously. "That would be extremely unwise of them," Slytherin sighed. "I would certainly prefer if everyone that joined my cause did so of their own free will, but I'm not beyond offering incentives. People often change their minds when faced with the loss of something or someone they feel great affection for.
How considerate of him. "Then we will procure as much information as we can on deceased and imprisoned Death Eaters. Their progeny should be eager to avenge their parents. If not, I will offer them an enticement as well. Thanks to the new Minister of Magic, we should have a sizeable organization assembled before the wizard world is even aware of my reincarnation."
Remember all the talk about the resurrected Salazar Slytherin being way worse than Voldemort?
Look at the dialogue here.
* * * * * Jamie grabbed the books off her bed and hurried out of the seventh year girls' dormitory to join Alex and Amanda, who were already in the common room. As she was about to pass the third year dorm, the door opened and Caitlin slowly emerged.
The way this is written makes it sounds as if Caitlin appeared as a ghostly apparition. "What are you doing!?" Jamie asked, coming to an abrupt halt. "I'm about to give Matt an answer," Caitlin answered, trying to hold back her tears. "No you're not," Jamie barked. "At least not until I know the question." End of Chapter 10
Finally.
All the real stuff this fic is particularly famous for begins in the next chapter.

Opinion on the Max/Lorelai fiasco?
the fact i've answered it in depth in the morning but tumblr didn't published it.... anyways. i just think it was very immature relationship on both sides. it was clear (at least to me) that lorelai never dated before and that max is intrigued by her but nothing else. like, i don't know it was very weird from the start like on episode 4 of s1 if iirc where rory is aren't allowed to do the test she study for a week so in the end of the episode he leaves a voicemail like "and rory, if your mom is listening" very very immature and even unprofessional. like it just didn't aged well but it's was a very wrong thing to do anywyas. and i just hate how max kind of forcing lorelai to be in a relationship with him in a way when she wants to break up with him and has intentions of bringing him back the book he gave her, max is like "rory would be fine" but lorelai was right. now rory, a 16 years old kid, is involved in whatever happen between them. i just think max didn't fully grasp the fact that he is walking into a family, assuming rory would be fine & okay no matter what, and that's the thing - boundaries were crossed because no one was matured enough to talk through stuff. max asking rory about her break up with dean, lorelai joking around max should let rory A+ on the test because her essay is so good (and i'm sure it was, it just wrong to do anything of the sort), max proposing to lorelai out of fear of losing her or being jealous or something i don't know, lorelai never lets him be part of their life because she's not ready yet, he yells at her telling her she's only cares about herself because she didn't gave him the keys to the house but honestly? she wasn't ready, she didn't wanted him there. she woke up her 16 years old daughter freaking out about having a man in the house, about their life might change completely and how nothing is gonna come back to the way it was it just. and they never talk anything through as well. where's max is gonna live? where's rory? is lorelai who brings up this questions in season 2 because they are a family and she is always gonna put rory first. that's why luke was the best match for her because he put rory first before anything else. he was rory's father before he was lorelai's boyfriend and later husband. lorelai saw how much luke loves rory that he is willingly going to drive up to yale and not let her quit school while max reaction would've been "rory would be okay" same as christopher's reactions at times. but lorelai never told her what's part he is gonna take in their life as well. when he pointed out it's past 23:00 and rory and dean are still out lorelai is like "well, you don't say anything to my daughter. she is my daughter." and you can't build a family like that, a relationship with this attitude. also the fact that max's parents were excited for him to get married but neither emily and richard or lorelai and rory never meet them? big red flag to me. it's not even "right person wrong time" because it isn't even that. like regarding to the plot of s2 with jess i think it could've been very interesting if max would've stayed around a few more episodes but i think it was good that he was gone when he did. lorelai wasn't ready and he wasn't ready and it showed.
Send me a ship and I’ll give you my brutally honest opinion on it

Gridball Jerseys and Cigarettes, Chapter 2
Hey guys, and welcome to the second chapter of my Sebastian x Alex fic! So glad you're here reading it! The chapter list is below, so you can read from the beginning if you're just joining!
Ch. 1
Summary: Alex has had a crush on Sebastian ever since they were kids. Their friendship fell apart, but Alex is determined to fix it. Will their relationship work? Or is it doomed to fail due to Alex's Grandfather's strict views?
Word count: 2,423 words
Warnings: cigarette use, alcohol consumption
Chapter Rating: T for Teen
"What are those?" Alex asked, as his blue-haired friend skidded to a halt in front of him. She had quite literally run over to him with what looked like pieces of paper in her hand. He tossed his gridball in the air a few times while he waited for a reply.
"Tickets!" Emily said with a toothy grin. "To see Goblin Destroyer!"
"Who?" Alex asked, face scrunching in concentration. "Oh! Sebastian's band!"
Emily rolled her eyes. "I can't believe you forgot their name," she said and thrust one of the tickets at him. Alex took it and stared.
"We've never had to have tickets before," he said, looking at Emily quizzically. Goblin Destroyer had played plenty of times down on the beach. Gus would serve drinks, and everyone would gather around and listen to them play. It was always a guaranteed good time.
"That's because they only played in Pelican Town. But this time, they landed a gig in Zuzu City!" Emily clapped her hands in excitement.
"In Zuzu City?" Alex gasped, eyes wide. "That's a big deal!"
"Sure is!" Emily said. "So you're going, right? I bought that ticket for you."
Alex bit his lip. It would be great to see Sebastian play. They hadn't crossed paths since the smoke blowing incident (Emily said it was called "shotgunning") and Alex was having a difficult time trying to figure out how to casually meet up with him.
Maybe they could meet up after the concert. He could compliment Sebastian on his playing. That could lead to an actual conversation, right?
"I dunno…I'll have to ask my grandparents…" Alex said nervously.
"It was $90," Emily said, "Per ticket. Non-refundable."
"Oh hey, grandma? Grandpa?" Alex said, putting his hand to his ear like a phone. "You're suddenly okay with me going to the city late at night with no supervision? Amazing! Can't believe it! Good news Emily," he said, putting his hand down, "I can go."
Emily clapped her hands together excitedly. "This is gonna be so much fun! And don't worry about your grandparents, okay? Haley and I came up with a special plan."
Alex frowned. These two sisters were downright dangerous when they put their heads together to come up with a plan. Mischief wasn't something Haley was usually up for, but when Emily planted an idea in her head, things could get intense.
"It's nothing bad!" Emily said quickly.
"That's what you said when you allowed Léo to modify the Mayor's boxers with your sewing machine!"
"Lucky purple shorts," Emily amended. "And they turned out lovely. That gold trim made them look so fancy!"
"Yeah, but Mayor Lewis was furious!" Alex retorted.
"Well, I'm sure he'll get over it when he has a special guest over who gets to admire them," Emily said, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively.
"I hate that you just made me think of the Mayor doing the do with–"
"Did you really just say "doing the do" instead of saying sex?" Emily said with a snort. "Are you twelve?"
"Look, we're way off track!" Alex said, flustered. "Whatever plan you and Haley have cooked up is probably crazy!"
"It isn't though!" Emily insisted. "Haley told you about our parents deciding to ditch us again for Winter Star, right?"
"If by "tell me" you mean slamming my bedroom door open, flopping onto my bed, and screaming into my pillow without stopping for a full 60 seconds…then yes, she told me," Alex said. It had been a very strange experience, but Alex had done his best to comfort her.
"Yeah, she was pretty pissed when they backed out and decided not to come to Pelican Town. So they sent us some "Sorry we're shit parents" gifts. I got a serger, and Haley got a vintage Polaroid camera!" Emily said. Alex waited patiently for her to continue. He wasn't sure where she was going with this.
"So we thought that you could tell your grandparents that you want to get Haley a super special gift for Winter Star! We'll just say it took a while to find the perfect gift. And when they ask to see what you got…you'll show them the Polaroid camera! Nobody in town knows she has it yet!" Emily looked rather pleased with herself, and honestly, Alex thought the plan was a pretty good one.
"Alright," Alex said. "That should work."
“It will work,” Emily said firmly. “Just…make sure to keep the fact that you’re going to the concert on the down low, yeah?”
“Right,” Alex said with a nod. He wouldn’t want someone to accidentally let slip that he was going to a concert. His grandparents meant well, but they were a bit overprotective. Scratch that, very overprotective. He was 23 years old, and they still treated him like he was 16. It was infuriating. Going to the city shouldn’t be an issue. And while they technically couldn’t stop him from going out, his grandfather had locked him out of the house one night when he stayed at the spa until 10 pm.
The day before the concert arrived, and Haley had insisted that instead of meeting by the bus stop, he should meet at her and Emily's house.
"I need to approve your outfit," she had said, looking dead serious. "I can't have you embarrassing Pelican Town by wearing something ridiculous."
So Alex found himself walking into their home, door unlocked as always when Haley knew Alex would be coming over.
"I'm here!" Alex called out.
"Alex!" Haley said happily, emerging from her bedroom. She stopped short and stared at him.
"What?" Alex said nervously.
"What in gay hell," Haley murmured, eyes flicking over him from top to bottom. "You can't wear that."
"What's wrong with my outfit?" Alex asked defensively.
"You absolutely cannot wear a gridball jersey and loose fitting jeans to a rock concert!" Haley said, exasperated. "Emily! Get over here right now!"
Emily walked out of the bathroom and Alex gulped. Okay, maybe he wasn't dressed appropriately. Emily was wearing a tight black tanktop with the words "Hell's Belles" on it. Her tight black jeans had a studded belt through the loops, and her Doc Martens looked fantastic.
"Oh fuck no," Emily said, and Alex crossed his arms, letting out a huff of annoyance.
"I can't change now!" Alex said. "I'll have to just go in this."
"Nope, no, no you won't," Emily said. "Let me grab you something."
Alex laughed. "You're a twig!" he said. "How the hell will I fit into your clothes?"
Emily ignored him, and brought out a pair of skinny jeans that definitely weren't hers, a white shirt, and a leather jacket.
"The jacket and jeans are left over from a fitting I did with Shane," she said. "Though he ended up in something uh…well anyway. The shirt is mine. It's like a dress on me, but it should fit you."
It was tight. No matter how baggy Emily had claimed it was, it left nothing to the imagination when it came to his chest and abs.
"These jeans," he grumbled, coming out of the bathroom, "have almost no space in the crotch! I hate them!"
"Suck it up, you look great!" Haley said.
"Yes, that's more like it," Emily said approvingly. "Now let's go!"
They raced to the bus stop quickly, hoping that nobody would catch sight of them and rat Alex out. They made it without incident, exhaling in relief when they saw Pam wasn't driving the bus tonight. She wasn't one to tell on anyone, but still. She sometimes had loose lips when she got drunk at the Saloon.
Alex bought the bus tickets, determined to pay for everything. Emily had spent quite a lot of cash on the concert tickets after all. He had tried to pay her back for them, but she refused, saying that if he bought her drinks and food at the concert, she’d consider it repaid.
“Are you sure I look okay?” Alex had said, glancing at Emily as they sat down.
“Have you seen the looks you’re getting?” Emily said with a grin. “Everyone on this bus is checking you out. You look fantastic!”
Alex nodded. He had noticed people looking at him, but was still concerned. He was planning on trying to meet with Sebastian backstage, and he was worried he looked ridiculous.
“Well…okay,” Alex said. The bus ride was a long one, and Alex was relieved when he finally got to get off the bus. He stretched, and then he and Emily made their way to the venue.
They were playing in a large park-like area. Apparently, it was a large space owned by the brewery nearby. This brewery would be providing the food and drink for the concert, and Emily was thrilled at the idea that the beer wouldn’t taste terrible.
It always tastes like someone pissed in my drink,” she said.
“Maybe they did,” Alex teased, and Emily made a face.
The beer was excellent, and they even managed to score some decent snacks before finding a spot to sit. They had come early enough to where they’d be able to sit nearby the stage. Alex wondered if Sebastian would see him from the stage, but guessed that his friend wouldn’t actually be looking into the audience.
When the opening act came on stage, Emily’s shirt suddenly made a lot more sense. The band was an AC/DC cover band that was made up of all women. They were called “Hells Belles” and apparently Emily was a huge fan.
“They’re amazing, you’ll see!” she said in excitement.
Emily was right, they were amazing. They played each song perfectly, and somehow managed to make them sound better than the originals! Alex clapped and whooped after they finished, and was slightly disappointed to see them go. But those feelings immediately evaporated when Goblin Destroyer came on stage.
Emily giggled at the look on Alex’s face when Sebastian walked out. There was no other way to say it, he looked sexy.
Sebastian was known for his baggy hoodies, but right now? He was wearing practically the opposite, if that was a thing. His shirt was ripped and tight, showing off his well defined arms and…collar bone piercings? Alex didn’t even know that was a thing, but he was so glad it was.
He gulped as he spotted hip piercings, shown off by his low slung skinny jeans. Since when did Sebastian have all these piercings? He knew about the lip, ears, and eyebrow piercings, but the rest? Alex swallowed thickly. Sebastian typically didn’t put his lip and eyebrow jewelry in, but he was wearing it tonight. God, Alex wished he wore them every day. He looked amazing.
“Put your eyes back into your head, you completely missed everything Sam just said!” Emily hissed.
“Oh,” Alex said sheepishly, realizing that she was right. He hadn’t even registered that Sam was speaking at all.
When they began to play, a wide grin split Alex’s face in two. He knew he enjoyed their music, but it was much tamer in Pelican town. But the songs they were playing now were far more intense. The music was louder, and they played like they meant it, none of them worried about how they would be perceived.
And the lyrics were very different. Swear words and sexual innuendos were in practically every song. Jas and Vincent often attended the Pelican Town concerts, so they never played songs like this. Alex was loving it, and really getting into the music. Emily was as well, and they both found themselves dancing and shouting.
Alex noticed Emily dancing with a few people, but he wasn’t sure how to feel when he was approached. Usually, he would be all for it, but he felt weird, dancing with someone when he was here to see the guy he was interested in playing.
Intermission finally came, and Alex found himself being forcefully dragged to the stage by Emily. He let himself be pulled, but was confused by what she was doing. She had given no explanation, simply grabbing his wrist and running.
“ABIGAIL!” Emily screamed out as the band was making their way offstage. Abigail was the drummer, and stopped when she heard her name. She looked very surprised at someone knowing her by name, and looked into the audience. Surprise was written all over her face when she saw Emily and Alex standing there.
“Holy shit!” Abigail said, looking very happy. “Come over here! Sam and Seb will definitely want to see you guys! Hell, I’m excited to see you guys!”
Alex didn’t think twice about following the two chattering girls backstage, but was suddenly overcome with a wave of fear when he realized exactly what was about to go down. He was about to see his crush, who looked sexy as hell, and was supposed to act natural? Alex didn’t even manage to act natural with his first attempt at conversation with Sebastian, how was he supposed to do so now?
“Hey guys!” Abigail shouted out, “Look who’s here!”
Sam and Sebastian looked over from where they were standing. Since the backstage area was outside, Sebastian had a cigarette, and had just taken a long drag from it before looking over. His eyebrows shot up, looking just as surprised as Abigail had.
Sebastian looked even better close up, and Alex found himself unable to take his eyes off of the man before him. Words died in his throat as Emily began to speak to them. How long was too long to look at someone for? Alex forgot.
“Nice to see you Alex,” Sebastian said in his raspy voice. He gave Alex a small smile, before looking at Emily. “You too, Em,” he said. “Can’t believe you guys are here.”
“You guys should totally have some drinks with us after the show!” Sam said excitedly. “We were just going to celebrate our first totally legit gig with some tequila shots, but just with us three. It’ll be way more fun if you guys join in!”
Emily expressed her interest straight away, but Alex was more hesitant. His eyes flicked to Sebastian, who was looking at him. It was hard to tell what the expression was on his face. That man was hard to read.
“You’re gonna join us, right?” Sebastian finally said.
“Of course!” Alex said, caving. How could he say no to such a pretty face?
Sebastian smiled once more, and Alex practically melted. Okay, he had to go now. And he found himself pretty excited about it.

Recent books, fiction -
K-Ming Chang, Bestiary - a coming-of-age story about a Taiwanese-American girl contending with legacies of intergenerational trauma within a web of Taiwanese folklore. I wanted to love this but ultimately didn't - I found it extremely overwritten, not controlled or deliberate enough in its structure or use of imagery, and far too enamored with its own engagement with the grotesque. There was a lot that was interesting here, but I found it unfortunately nearly unreadable. It seems to be part of a definite trend I've noticed of new novels by authors with a knack for vivid and memorable imagery but who seem to string those images together one upon another rather than giving any attention to sentence-by-sentence construction of prose. I think most of you reading this can probably recognize the style I'm trying to describe here; it's getting increasingly common in contemporary fiction, and I have noticed my own tolerance for it waning significantly. This has been frustrating.
Hannah Chapin, Foul is Fair - YA Macbeth as a rape-revenge story. Very very bad on every level. Skip this.
Kristen Arnett, With Teeth - claustrophobic study of parenthood and unreliable pov characters, following Sammie, a lesbian mother struggling to parent her son and maintain her relationship with her wife over the course of a decade in her life. This was tight and enthralling, but a deeply unpleasant reading experience; Sammie's inability to see the people close to her as full people made me chafe to get out of living inside her head, but it held my attention all the way through. Kept coming to the edges of saying something sharper about parents' denial of their own capacity for violence, but didn't quite go there. I'll be thinking about this for a while, but not sure how much I actually liked it.
Allison Saft, Down Comes the Night - YA fantasy; a disgraced healer gets involved in sinister political magicians to make it up to her aunt, the queen. Solid but unexceptional YA fantasy, enlivened by some gothic tropes it never fully committed to.
Emily Layden, All Girls - panoramic study of the impact of a sexual assault scandal in a girls boarding school. This should have been trite, but was in fact sharply observed, insightful and unsentimental about teenage girlhood. The world of fancy boarding schools is quite foreign to me (though the milieu inhabited by the pre-professional dancer character was not, and Layden draws that with unerring accuracy), but Layden brings that world to life vividly. Likewise, the structural device of writing each chapter from the point of view of a different student could have become irritating but somehow never did. I was pleasantly surprised by this.
Catriona Silvey, Meet Me In Another Life - time loop novel about two people who keep finding each other in different versions of reality. At times touching, but didn't quite land for me; I found something about its focus on questions about determinism versus free will a bit alienating.
Kiersten White, Slayer - I keep reading White's books hoping to enjoy them as much I as I did her girl!Vlad Tepes trilogy, but I haven't yet. This one is published (official? canonized?) Buffy fan fiction, about two sisters born into a family of Watchers after the events of the tv series. It was fine, but didn't draw me in, and I know my lack of familiarity with Buffy canon outside of the show itself put me at a disadvantage.
Sophie Macintosh, The Water Cure - three girls raised in seclusion by parents who taught them to engage in painful and humiliating rituals have to make sense of the world after their father's death. I am always interested in these kinds of narratives and there were parts of what Macintosh was doing that I found moving and elegant, but I didn't find this psychologically plausible. It treads an uncomfortable line between hazy allegory and psychological realism, and I don't think it succeeds. I think Dogtooth did this a lot better.

for couple questions: 1, 7-9, & 30 for … roz and mary, plus another pair (or two, or three, or—) of your choice !!!!
(I'm going to pick a different couple for each question in addition to Roz and Mary...)
1.What do they think of each other's family? And how does the family feel?
ROZ AND MARY. Mary likes the St. Fleurs! Because she's an only child, the St. Fleurs feel like a large and boisterous family to her. She enjoys spending time with them and gets along well with Freddy and Vivi, in particular. She likes Jacques less, but isn't about to say anything about it. The St. Fleurs like Mary as well, and showing more of that relationship is one of my objectives for the remainder of part 3 and then onto chapter 3! Rosalind likes Mary's parents, who are both too polite to tell her that they think the entire affair is absolute madness and likely doomed.
ANDRE AND LEONOR. Andre doesn't know most of Leonor's family, but he's got no reason to dislike them, except her husband (whom he loathes). You'd have to tell me exactly how Leonor feels, but I'd say her favorites, in order, would be 1. Rosalind 2. Elise 3. Freddy 4. Vivi (not because she dislikes her but because she is beneath notice) 5. Jacques (mouth-breather, rumored to be quite rude to his unnoticeable wife)
7. What's their most and least favorite thing about each other?
ROZ AND MARY. Roz thinks Mary is cool and confident, but her favorite thing is that Mary is quite romantic, underneath it all. Her least favorite thing is what she perceives as Mary's tendency to get lose sight of the big picture and get caught up on minor details like how much lying is okay when it's for the good of the country. Mary likes that Roz is quirky and very sure of herself. She hates it when Roz's surety tips over into stubbornness and pigheadeness.
JACQUES AND VIVI. Jacques likes Vivi's sense of humor (I've said before that their favorite couple activity is being haters) but his favorite thing about her would be her selflessness -- when they were younger, she put their relationship at the center of everything she did, and she never demanded anything from him. His least favorite thing about her is the way her priorities have shifted since their son was born -- she's soooooo hung up on appearances and other people's opinions now. Vivi liked that Jacques was someone who saw through the phony bullshit of their high school classmates. He made her feel very special, like it was just the two of them against the world. Her least favorite thing is his temper.
8. What do they find physically sexiest about each other?
ROZ AND MARY. To Roz, Mary is very much the embodiment of tall, dark, and handsome. She likes her smile and her swagger -- it's about the attitude, the posture. It drives her crazy. Mary is primarily a thighs/belly girlie, I think. World cold and hard, titty girlfriend soft and warm.
FREDDY AND KELLY. I don't think Freddy has much of a type, physically, but he likes smart, sharp women and Kelly is certainly the sharpest of the women we've seen him with. As for Kelly...I think she certainly finds him charming/goofy/appealing but that's not quite enough to explain why he's got 8,000 girlfriends so let's just make it canonical that he eats pussy like a champion and she finds his mouth/lips extremely attractive.
9. Are they a "we" couple?
ROZ AND MARY. Absolutely. Roz is the we, ofc.
FREDDY AND EMILY. Freddy isn't a "we" kind of a person, but he's content to let Emily speak for both of them.
30. Where is their relationship the strongest?
ROZ AND MARY. These two are genuinely well-matched in many ways, but I'd say that they're strongest in terms of their private moments together, when they speak frankly to one another. Roz really respects Mary's intelligence and her advice, and she is honest with her in a way that she isn't with literally anyone else.
ANDRE AND ELISE. Their marriage has a very strong grounding in friendship, so their relationship is strongest when they're working together, as a team. What we've seen of them recently is kind of shaky, but they work very well together and are very at-ease with one another. Like Roz and Mary, they're strongest in quiet, intimate moments together.
Couple Questions -> accepting!

Nakia Saber Intro
Tumblr media
if you're hearing EMILY by SAN FERMIN playing, you have to know NAKIA SABER (HE/HIM; CISMAN) is nearby! the 32 year old GRADUATE ART HISTORY STUDENT/GALLERY ATTENDANT has been in denver for, like 32 YEARS. they're known to be quite STUBBORN, but being HONEST seems to balance that out. or maybe it's the fact that they resemble ZEEKO ZAKI. personally, i'd love to know more about them seeing as how they've got those NEVER EXPECTING TO MAKE IT THIS FAR, UNKNOWN FUTURE, ALWAYS HIDING WHAT YOU'RE FEELING vibes. and maybe i'll get my chance if i hang around the CHERRY CREEK DISTRICT long enough!

★𝘽𝙞𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙥𝙝𝙮★
Nakia was the oldest of three kids to two loving parents. After immigrating from Egypt, Dina and Aton decided to start a family and have the perfect American Dream. And honestly they did have the perfect, loving, family that kids could only dream of having. Sure Nakia thought that his family could be embarrassing at times but he loved them and knew that he was loved.
DEATH TW/CAR ACCIDENT TW
When Naika was just fourteen years old his father called one night saying he was going to be home late from work. During dinner the doorbell rang and they were greeted by a policeman with some very terrible news. Aton had died in a car accident.
TW END
The family was obviously heart broken and their life had changed forever. Nakia had tried to step up and help out as much as he could and never tried to make life hard for his mother.
CANCER TW
Which was why he never complained about how he was getting tired all the time and in pain. He didn't think there was much to be concerned about and there was no reason to worry his mother. It wasn't until other people started noticing did Nakia agree to get checked out by his doctor. Again the family was completely changed when it was revealed that Nakia had Leukemia.
He tried to be upbeat during the whole process but overall it left him pretty jaded. But hey at least he got an arch nemesis out of it!
TW END
Since getting his life back he's been trying to live life to the fullest. Finding his art passion in the hospital he knew that was the only thing he wanted to do from now on. He keeps putting off his Master's degree because he genuinely is afraid of what is going to happen when he's done since he has worked for so long for this.
★𝙒𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨★
Roommates - I'm sure Nakia can't afford a place alone and genuinely would be a great person to be roommates with
Friends - Listen Nakia is a bit grumpy, please love him anyway
Frequent Fliers - He can talk for hours about art and maybe you go to the gallery a lot and every time he wants to infodump about all the different paintings
Ex's/Flings/FWB - Genuinely he is so soft when it comes to romance that it would be fun for him to show it in different ways
This is late and idk what else to put I'll rewrite this later

I've gone a little deeper about Emily's past in my fic 'Unrequited' and 'As It Was'. I'm just obsessed with her character and the backstory both she and Hotch have. And I just finish reading the little backstory you did about Emily and I loved it!!
i’m really not much of a jemily fan (partly because i think fanon characterizations of jj are completely delusional, partly because i think fanon characterizations of emily are beyond insulting, and mostly because i cannot fucking fathom what anyone could possibly like about jj), but i went ahead and read those two pieces because i figured you came into my inbox already knowing that. it’s just… not how i see either of those characters. not even necessarily the shipping aspect, even ignoring my reservations about jj, but because of the way i think emily approaches relationships
this sounds hypocritical after writing about emily + family, but i feel like emily doesn’t really care about her biological family anymore. at least i’d like to. i’d like to think she’s accepted that she’ll never be what her mother wants and that she’ll never get what she wants from her mother. she’s 36 when she joins the bau—surely that’s enough time to realize she can’t hold onto those childish fantasies anymore. not that i disagree with what i wrote, i just think it's given her a complex ab family rather than it actually being something she truly craves. it was a setup for her life: she wasn't meant to be with others, which is something she eventually tries to change about herself
i’m a big fan of low-empathy emily, so i feel like she has to put active effort into caring about relationships. as a child raised by an extremely distant parent, she probably chalked it up to never having connections growing up, so she never learned how to make connections in the future. it’s easier to assume she’s broken, and it’s easier to blame her mom for it
but really, i don’t think there’s anything wrong with her, she’s just different. at some point i think she had to wrestle with that: it’s hard to think she fell into the job best suited for her personality just by coincidence. being a spy requires that cold, calculating observation and analysis of relationship dynamics. she can view things objectively because she isn’t naturally inclined to get emotionally attached. she can witness unfathomable horrors without a flinch—things that would rock jj to her core, things that would perturb the unflappable hotch. she knows she’s better equipped to handle those types of experiences because having empathy was never really a priority. (it's part of why i think she was the only one who could've walked through hotch's apartment that day: she wouldn't get distracted)
that being said, i don’t think connections are impossible for her. the bau proves that, declan proves that. but i think that was a conscious choice on her part: she had seen enough—caused enough—pain and grief to realize that she should feel guilty for it. so i think she wakes up every day and decides to care. she decides to be a good person. eventually she confronts that she's tired of living a life she doesn't feel like she could be proud of
she’s not heartless, by any means. she just doesn’t become emotionally involved until she comes to the logical conclusion to do so. she has a soft spot for kids because they haven’t had a chance to truly know themselves and the world they live in. she loves the team because of how deeply connected they are to each other. so, when push comes to shove, she’s always willing to leave if it means keeping them together. it’s easy to make that choice because she loves them: in season 3 when the choice is between her and hotch and she knows hotch’s loss will devastate them; in season 6 when she’s making them potential targets for doyle’s vendetta; in season 7 when she feels the tension that never quite settled upon her return. i don’t know if any of the others would’ve made those decisions as easily, even if it was the best choice for them as a whole. not even hotch, who is terrified that his proximity is enough to hurt people he cares about. she’s detached in a way that can separate her from others, but she’s able to turn that into her strength: whether that means manipulating her way into terrorist organizations or walking away from the only chance at a family she's ever had just to keep them safe
i have my bits and pieces of evidence for it that i can scrounge into a semi-believable character analysis, but ultimately i think it’s so i can enjoy more of her character without getting irked by aspects of the archetypes she could fit that would typically annoy me. i’d like to think she’s above some of that: she’s too cool to have mommy issues, too badass to spend years pining over relationships, too self assured to be insecure about her decisions, too smart to let anyone see through her.
i say all this as a hotch fan, who has traits very similar to these. but it suits him. it makes him more interesting, to know that there’s a vulnerability behind his stoic appearance. but with emily i think it’s far more admirable for her to choose to suffer because she wants to care. minimal loss is the perfect example of that: she makes the logical choice to put herself at risk because she wants to protect reid. she’s not running away from who she is anymore, and she’s not really fighting it either. she chooses to be a good person, not out of guilt or even love, but because it’s something she values.
for me, emily is the cool brooding hero who could be a villain so easily. maybe, in an earlier time in her life, she was. but she’s done being selfish. she’s willing to make sacrifices for others because she decided that living by a code is better than living for nothing at all, even if it causes her pain. guilt and love—two burning sensations that were so opposite yet so intrinsically linked—were burdens she chose to bear so she wouldn’t feel so hollow anymore. and it does cause her pain. so, so much pain. to me, it makes her endlessly more fascinating. i’d rather her be a knife that dulls its edges than something soft chiseled to a jagged point.

Listen to: ‘Never Gonna Leave This Bed’ -by Maroon5
Tumblr media
October 2000 - January 2001
Leaving her mum and brother was the hardest part of moving out.
Mel cried in a swirl of emotions, knowing her life would never be the same. She was no longer just someone's daughter, she was her own person, with a house that she shared with the love of her life.
Harry sat next to her on the couch, he handed her a cup of hot chocolate that she took silently. "How're you feeling?"
"Well, I'm no longer crying," Mel replied humorously, "I s'pose I'll feel out of place for a while. We've been building this place for so long, it was starting to feel like it was never going to be finished, now it's done and we're here... It's still hard to believe that this is our new home."
"It's weird," Harry looked around, "did we ever get to sleep in a new bed?"
"Don't think so."
"And now if I say 'I'll read in the garden', it'll be our garden I'm talking about. Our house, our pets... It's kind of overwhelming to have all these nice things."
Mel drank a bit of her chocolate. "So many empty rooms too... and it's so quiet— I don't think I like the quiet yet... what do we do?"
Harry tilted his head, he thought about it for a moment, and then smiled.
"Let's have our friends over."
Tumblr media
To celebrate, they invited their friends to a little party. Although little was not the right word: The Weasley family was there, the Lovegoods, the Longbottoms, Hermione and her parents, Anne and Emily Flint, Mel's mother and Regulus, Tonks and Teddy, Andromeda, Joseph, Aberforth... Anyone who'd been close to them during school or had anything to do with their family.
Erick, Remus, and Charlie weren't able to make it, the first two because they were teaching and the last because he was working abroad, but the house was crowded, some were in the drawing-room, others in the kitchen, and some were still in the dining room having a few pints. The rest was out in the garden.
Mel and Harry hosted the evening and made sure everyone was having a good time. Neville was dating Hannah Abbott, to no one's surprise. He'd gotten along with her after the war and they kept visiting each other months after everything had ended.
George and Angelina announced they'd gotten engaged and Fred made sure to be as dramatic as possible, talking about forsaking his kin and quitting his youth before Joseph cut him short, and reminded him he'd been the first to move out of the little flat in Diagon Alley.
Mel didn't feel anxious about any news this time. How could she, when she was part of it too? She and Harry had moved in together, they'd bought a house and restored it with the help of their friends. Time was moving and it continued to push them forward.
Tumblr media
"Did you hear the news?" Harry caught up with her while she was walking out of the restroom.
"Are we working on Christmas? I can't stand another minute of that annoying little tune that keeps coming from the office's ceiling—"
"Barry and Andrews are retiring," He interrupted her. "You know them, don't you?"
That was not the right question, she didn't know them. She did know where they worked.
"They're retiring?" Mel lowered her voice as they walked into the crowded kitchen. "How do you know?"
"Mr Weasley told Ron," Harry smiled. "Andrews and Barry were thinking about retiring next year. They think it's time to quit the dangerous experiments."
"Good for them," she bit her lip, "next year... well, I've got plenty of time. If Mr Greengrass doesn't ask me—"
"I'll drag you to his office so you have no excuse not to take the spot," her boyfriend retorted, "you can do it, Mel."
All she had to do was reach and seize the opportunity. The worse that could happen was getting a no for an answer and she'd be able to keep her job as Head Auror. It wouldn't be the end of the world.
"Oh, alright!" She made a face. "But don't tell anyone! Not even Ron and Hermione. If I get the job I want it to be a surprise."
"Alright, boss," He hugged her by the waist and kissed her temple.
Tumblr media
"Won't make it to lunch," Harry announced as they walked out of the lift. "Ron's staying though."
"Be careful out there," she replied, "love you!"
Harry started to walk away, but he managed to say "Love you too!" before disappearing into the crowd.
"Ah, young love," a woman said next to her, "I heard you and Mr Potter bought a house! Congrats."
"Don't you have work to do, Rita?"
"I'm doing it," she smiled, "people want to hear all about your relationship— must be quite serious if you're living together! Are you marrying soon? Do you plan to have children? I know Flint's about to have another one— a girl, am I correct?"
Mel started to walk away without responding, and Rita followed her.
"My readers want to know how does Mel Dumbledore keep a cool head in these trying times? You're going through big changes, that alone is enough to make a sane person go a little anxious, but for someone like you—"
"I'm perfectly fine," she retorted without getting angry. "Y'know, I think you should continue the good deed you were doing, back when you interviewed Harry and me when we were fifteen. You should make an article on Miss Granger's work with the house-elves. I noticed you haven't written any regarding their success managing Azkaban, I guess it isn't thrilling when things go well. Anyway, you can tell your readers to stop treating them as inferior beings..."
Skeeter's pen was writing each word coming from her mouth, Mel tried her best not to say anything that could be slanted.
"You could also visit the department of misuse of magical artefacts. Mr Weasley's doing a remarkable job keeping the muggles safe, some wizards still think enchanting stuff and giving them to people who can't defend themselves is fun— That division's being forgotten by the higher authorities and I think that's not right."
"Wonderful! So about that new house— some people say is almost as huge as Hogwarts! How does a twenty-year-old manage to afford such a place?"
Mel laughed loudly, she couldn't help it.
"As big as Hogwarts! Please, Rita, you can't believe that rubbish. I have things to do, so if you could leave..."
She didn't wait for a reply, the young witch turned left and discretely closed the door behind her with a wand movement.
Tumblr media
"How are you going to name her?"
"Elizabeth," Erick replied, "Anne likes it and I think it's sweet." Then he added in a playful tone, "Unless you wanted to name your kid Elizabeth?"
"Oh, shut up," Mel grinned. "This is your last Christmas as a teacher? How are you feeling? I would've stayed for the feast..."
"I considered it, but my wife's pregnant and I hadn't seen my daughter in months. I attended many feasts while I was a student, my kid will be a year old only once."
Mel hummed. "Good thinking."
"Is it true that Mark Andrews and Leonor Barry are retiring?" He asked, drinking a bit of his eggnog.
She stared at him. "How do you know?"
"I have my ways," he smiled.
Mel observed him carefully. "Daphne told you, didn't she?"
Erick winked at her. "Are you planning to switch jobs?"
She looked around the room in contemplation. "I'm not particularly bored of my current one, but I'm not in love with it either."
"If Mr Greengrass offers you a spot," he insisted, "will you take it?"
"Why is everyone so nosy?" She frowned. "Merlin, is like I'm still fifteen..."
"Everything alright?" Harry walked up to them. "Is this man bugging you, love?"
"I'm driving her up the wall," Erick responded. "Could you please help me, Harry? Your girlfriend is having doubts about her future..."
"Ah, I know," Harry sighed, "I'd be worried if we were living in different places, but now I don't mind it if she quits. Even if I did, s'none of my business, is it?"
"Precisely. Please leave me and my insecurities alone, will you?"
"We want you to be happy, that's all," Erick raised a brow. "We know you want the job, I don't know what's stopping you."
"Well, I don't know either," she retorted, "if you excuse me, my godson is calling for me."
Teddy wasn't even looking in her direction, but she walked up to him anyway. He and her brother were playing near the Christmas tree.
"Hello," she beamed at the children, "what are you doing?"
Regulus looked at her. "Teddy doesn't know what Quidditch is."
"Of course he doesn't, he's two years old," Mel grinned.
She looked at Remus, who was seated next to the tree, and silently asked if she could sit next to him. The man moved so she could fit better.
"So," she began, "how's Hogwarts' favourite Professor?"
Remus laughed. "I'm hardly the favoured. You should see how the students look at Erick, if I didn't know any better I'd say he spiked their drinks with Amortentia during the feast."
"He must be loving the attention, all swooning for him," she said sarcastically.
"Especially when he's trying to teach a difficult lesson and all they do is stare blankly. I should be thankful I'm not pleasant to look at, that way my students focus on their books."
"C'mon, Moony," she nudged him gently, "you're just as handsome as the Prince. Maybe a little older, but I've heard forty is the golden age! Are you still drinking the wolfsbane potion?"
He nodded, a teasing smile forming on his face. "Erick suffers whenever I have to stay in my room, he's the substitute teacher. I'm not saying the kids like it when I can't attend class, but they certainly don't hate seeing him twice a day."
Mel laughed, she paused a moment before speaking.
"Uncle Lu... are you happy?"
Remus looked at her in surprise. "Why wouldn't I be?"
"Did you always want to be a teacher?"
He smiled knowingly. "What's troubling you, Mel?"
She placed her drink on the coffee table.
"There might be a chance for me to start working as an Unspeakable, but I don't know if I want it."
He waited for her to keep talking, so she did.
"What good would it bring? I mean, what can I do? Unspeakables study the secrets of the universe and all that, they uncover stuff, invent things— I'm not an inventor! I'm not an innovator either... I don't want to steal a spot someone else could use in much better ways."
Remus stared at his son for a moment, deep in thought.
"Well, there's no way of finding out unless you go for it."
Mel groaned, falling back on the couch.
Regulus stood and placed his little hand on her knee. "Mely, are you in ache? D'you want ice?"
"She's alright, Leon," Remus replied. "Why don't you ask Dora for a cup of hot chocolate?"
"Mum said one's enough," Reggie said hesitantly.
"Well, Mily's there," Remus nodded towards the end of the drawing-room, "and Dora's in the kitchen. Tell her I sent you."
Regulus' eyes shone with glee, he seized Teddy's hand, who obliged without making a fuss, following his young uncle to the kitchen.
"You must be tired of adults telling you what to do," Remus gently seized her wrist and squeezed a little. "It's your life, Mel. If you want to quit, or if you want to stay there forever, that's your decision to make. But I will tell you this: If you're waiting for a sign, you'll be waiting forever."
"I don't like waiting," she sulked.
"I know," he smiled at her, "patience is definitely not your virtue. Nothing's stopping you, so why are you still having doubts?"
"I think that's the problem," she pouted, "all my life someone was always there to stop me from derailing— and now they all stand aside and I... I'm not used to being in control."
"I don't see how that's a problem," Remus said, "some of us would give anything to have a bit of control over our lives."
She grimaced at his words. "I wasn't—"
"It's fine," he put an arm around her, "growing up is confusing— you've been pulled back and forth between being a kid and being treated as an adult for a long time. Whatever you decide, we'll help you through it."

Mel stretched and let out a soft noise as she did, blinking away the blurriness. She turned around on the bed coming face to face with Harry, though his eyes were still closed.
She smiled to herself, a pleasant tug in her belly reminded her the rest of her life would be filled with mornings exactly like that one. The young man's face was serene, his brow used to furrow during sleep, but now the gesture was starting to fade. Harry's breathing was slow and quiet, a few strands of his wild hair were framing his forehead.
Without his glasses, she could see the shape of his eyes and each eyelash perfectly, she could stare at the shape of his nose and the few freckles that he'd gained after a childhood of chores under the sunlight. She shifted closer, and slowly followed every crease and shadow of his face. The light stubble across his jaw that he'd never let grow, and that she secretly wished to one day feel against her skin.
The thought made her shiver, she squirmed under the sheets and accidentally kicked his foot lightly, but Harry didn't budge. Mel stared at him until her eyes began to close again out of weariness, it was then that she sighed and curled up closer to him, her face against his naked shoulder.
Sleepily, Harry's arm wrapped around her, the other was now under her head, and she could hear his steady heartbeat.
"You stare too much," he mumbled, "woke me up."
"That makes no sense," she replied in the same drowsy voice.
"You know what I mean," Harry's lips brushed her forehead. "M'not complaining..."
"I was just admiring the view," she grinned, "my boyfriend keeps sleeping in nothing but his underwear."
Mel felt his smile growing, his arm tightened its grip around her. "My girlfriend sleeps in my shirts— got nothing to wear on the weekends because she stole all of them."
"How unfortunate," Mel moved under the blanket, she sat up, hands swiftly pulling up the fabric and throwing the shirt at his face. "Maybe your girlfriend needs the extra layer since she has a hard time warming up. Bet you didn't think of that."
Harry took the shirt off his face and looked at her, he wasn't wearing his glasses but she was so close that he could see her clearly. The young man stared without an ounce of shame, a blatant smirk adorning his face.
She glanced at the clock on her bedside table. "It's too early to get up, I think I'll have a nap."
Mel turned her back to him and slipped under the sheets once more. Harry was fully awake now.
"I think not," He responded playfully.
Both of his arms wrapped around her and turned her around, Mel let out a little gasp followed by a chuckle, and then Harry's lips found hers.

"Mel?" Harry sat behind her while drying his hair, he had a copy of the Daily Prophet in his hand. "Did you talk to Skeeter last month?"
Mel stopped drying her own hair and turned to face him. "Why?"
He handed her the paper, then walked toward their closet to get dressed. Mel read quickly. It wasn't the front page, at least, but one of the first pages had an article that caught her eye:
Mel Dumbledore: Anti-ministry Head Auror?
'Dumbledore— war hero, and the youngest Head Auror to ever work in the Ministry— had a very interesting chat with our reporter, in which she let her true colours shine through.
Miss Dumbledore highly recommended us to 'write about the things that really matter'. When questioned about what those things were, she talked of wizards using biting teaspoons to attack muggles, and the work of her long-time friends, Miss Granger, and Mr Weasley's father. Assuring that 'things aren't thrilling when they work well'.
Don't be deceived, dear reader, although her words hold as much sense as the Quibbler, she isn't entirely delusional. Sources claim that Miss Dumbledore and Mr Potter have recently bought a house. When asked about these rumours, Miss Dumbledore laughed and responded: "As big as Hogwarts!"
How can a twenty-year-old have enough gold to get such a place? Dear reader, forgive us if we're wrong, but not even Potter and Dumbledore's fortune put together should be enough to get a whole castle!
We wouldn't like to assume the worst, but this leaves us with an eery question. Have you ever asked yourselves, what Ministry workers do with the money given to their department? Is it being used wisely, or do they think, like Miss Dumbledore, unbothered about giving the house-elves the responsibility to guard our most dangerous wizards, that there are other things more important than the community they work for?'
"You know what?" Mel said in shock. "Maybe I won't have to choose between being an Auror or an Unspeakable— I'll be sacked!"
"Kingsley won't believe that rubbish," Harry retorted calmly, "he knows us."
"What about the others?" She threw the newspaper on the bed and began to dress frantically. "She made me sound like Lockhart!"
Harry tried not to laugh. "Loads of people know you, they know you're not an idiot."
"What about the old ladies?" Mel pulled a shirt over her head, when she emerged there was a pout on her face. "I don't want judgy old ladies scowling at me on the street!"
Her boyfriend chortled and covered his mouth to stifle the noises.
"Don't laugh, this is terrible!" However, there was a grin on her face. "Not only do they think I'm a lunatic, but now I also steal money to buy castles!"
"Look on the bright side— At least this time she didn't drag our love life into it!"
"Oh, just you wait," Mel avoided his gaze so she wouldn't laugh, "one day we'll wake up to an article saying I'm having an affair with Hermione. Why else would I defend her so much?"
Harry was fully laughing now. "Ron'll be heartbroken!"
"Don't think so," Mel said between chortles, "he'll be having an affair with you!"

Her day was going well until she entered the same lift as Mr Greengrass.
She'd made a fool of herself by talking to Skeeter, most of her acquaintances at work hadn't believed the article, but some strangers looked at her weirdly, and even though she'd been treated this way before, she'd never learned to accept it fully.
Mel hadn't seen Mr Greengrass in a while, and she didn't know if the article had affected the way he perceived her. She was wondering if he was now regretting offering her a place in his division when suddenly he spoke:
"Goodmorning, Dumbledore."
"G'Morning, Mr Greengrass," she nodded at him briefly before fixing her gaze on the doors. "How are you?"
"Very well, thank you," he replied, "have you heard the news about Andrews and Barry's retirement?"
Mel turned to look at him so fast she hurt her neck, she did her best to keep her composure.
"I have. I hope they're okay?"
"Yes, yes, but they've grown old and plan to spend what's left of their lives next to their loved ones, not locked inside a dark office. Have you thought about what I told you at in Mr Flint's wedding?"
"I've thought about it for a long time, sir."
"Have you made up your mind?"
She hadn't. However, once the man asked her, the answer came to her right away.
"I want to work as an Unspeakable. If you think I have what it takes to be one, sir, I'll do it."
Mr Greengrass smiled for the first time since they'd met. It wasn't really a smile, more like a little twist of the mouth, but Mel found it comforting.
"Indeed, I think you do," his voice was encouraging, "I expect your application on my desk next Monday."
"It'll be there," she said, struggling to contain the excitement in her voice. "Thank you."
"No, Dumbledore, thank you," he responded.
The lift's doors opened and the man did a curtsy before walking out. Mel remained quiet until she reached Kingsley's office, she knocked once and his voice quickly told her to come in.
"Dumbledore," he raised his eyebrows. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"
"Morning, Minister. Mr Greengrass has offered me a spot as an Unspeakable," she felt her pulse increasing, "I think I'll accept it."
Kingsley nodded, he wasn't surprised at all. "Mr Greengrass mentioned his interest to take you in. I told him I'd let you go if that was what you wanted as well."
"It is, sir."
He sighed. "You were the best Head Auror we've had in a while, Mel. This is not how we usually do it, but if you have a person in mind for your replacement, I'll trust you blindly. I'll hire them right away."
Mel smiled, that was the easiest assignment someone had given her in years.
"I have the perfect candidate."

Passing the rosewood sign, your grip on the steering wheel tightened. The secrets, the lies that you had to keep away all came back to you. You left rosewood after you graduated high school to become a doctor, after your dad died you want to remember him in some way.
He was a solider in the army helping people and you were a doctor helping people. You and your sister emily were like two peas in a pod, you helped her come out of the closet to your parents. Of course you missed your family but you especially missed your crush/bestfriend, melissa hastings. She was the older sister of spencer hastings.
You always had a crush on her but you were too scared to ever admit it to her. She was straight and she was engaged more than once, so you never tried. Here you were in front of your childhood home, nothing changed about it.
Parking your car near your house, feeling like nostalgia as you remembered dropping emily off to school. You walked to the front door, not before looking at the flag on the window and tapping on it slightly in remembrance of your late father.
Knocking the door it opens to reveal your mom. “[name]! oh my god.” Your mom exclaimed before pulling you into a welcome hug, you wrapped your arms around your mom feeling at home already.
“What are you doing here?” she asked guiding you inside the house with your suitcase.
Hearing footsteps recede down the stairs, you make eye-contact with emily. Emily was shocked before she rushed down the stairs and pulled you into a tight hug. “I missed you em.” You admitted to your baby sister.
“How long will you be staying?” Your mom asked, still can't believe that her baby girl was here.
“Probably for two weeks.” You informed your mom, nodding your head reassuringly.
A phone chimes and emily pulls her phone out of a back pocket, looking quite scared as your eyebrows furrowed in worry. “[name]. mom. I have to go to Spencer’s.”
You titled your head to the side and your mom questions Emily, “Do you have to go right now? Your sister just got back.”
“Yes mom. I have to go.”’Emily demanded as she grabbed her car keys. You never seen Emily so eager to leave the house so you knew that something was wrong so you kissed your mom on the cheek.
“Great idea. I'm going with you.” You spoke up as you began to stand up but emily was quick to argue, ignoring the younger fields, you grabbed her keys out of her hand and headed outside.
“We'll be back before lunch mom.” Emily shouted to your mom before following behind.
Emily took back her keys, “I'm driving.” She stated as she got in the driver's seat so you got in the passenger's seat. Once you were on the road, you'd tried to make small talk not wanting to keep a awkward atmosphere until you reached your destination.
“I wonder how spencer is doing.” Emily scoffs at your statement before she replies, “Or do you wonder how melissa is doing.” Emily asked, knowing that you had a huge crush on the hastings girl. A small smile is placed on your lips remembering your bestfriend melissa.
“Do you have a girlfriend as yet?” You asked emily trying to change the subject from melissa.
“Oh don't try to change the subject now.” Emily nods her head as she said, “Why didn't you just ask her out? I'm sure that she would have said yes.”
You let out a sigh looking at your sister. “Have you seen melissa? She's totally straight.” You tried to reason with emily as she quickly glances at you.
You looked out the car window, “Do you think that she wants to see me? After all these years. God, I didn't even call her when her fiancé died.” Emily tensed at those last three words but luckily, you didn't notice it.
“Don't beat yourself up [name]. Things will get better.” Emily tried reassuring but you remained silent for the rest of the car ride. The car comes to a halt, emily cuts off the car ignition and gets out of the car with you doing the same.
Emily knocks on the door and few seconds later, the door opens revealing spencer and the rest of allison's posse. The other three girls were shocked to you but they invited you in nonetheless, after you did your welcome greetings to the other girls you pulled spencer aside.
“Hey spence. Is melissa here?” Spencer smirked at your question, knowing that her older sister had a crush on you as well.
“Yeah, she's in the barn.” The brunette replies and you thanked her, heading out to the back.
With every step that you take, your heart beat become more faster than ever. Gathering your courage, you let out a heavy sigh before opening the door to the barn. Than that's when you heard her voice, “Spence, is that you?” She walks in expecting her younger sister but got her best friend.
She looks astonished seeing you in her presence. It wasn't long before melissa pulled you into a hug, it took you by surprise but you eventually warmed up to it and hugged back. It was a pregnant silence as you two were still in the hug.
You were the one to pull away from the warm and welcoming hug. “How? When?” Melissa stammered on and you smile, lovingly at her.
“I just flew in this morning.” You clarified her. she pulls your arm to a nearby couch, sitting you down with her.
“I need to tell you something.” She stated. “I-how do i say this?”
“I like you, [name].” Your jaw dropped at this as melissa continued, “I've had a crush on you since high school but i always pushed those feelings away because of my internalized homophobia. So I've dated boys to try to forget about being a lesbian but it didn't work it out.” you didn't know what to say, your longtime crush had admitted her feelings for you.
Sending melissa a small smile. “I've had a crush on you too, mel.”
“Would you do me the honor of being my girlfriend, [name]?” You nodded your head at her before bringing her into a passionate kiss. When you pulled away, you heard whooping from outside. You looked at the window and saw spencer and emily smiling at the both of you, [your shipname] has finally sailed.
