#I’m ALWAYS thinking about Henry in this scene I adore it
bystarlightlore · 8 months
Text
first things first: my boys are so touchy & affectionate with each other & it's the cutest, most adorable thing on planet earth.
Tumblr media
i die.
Tumblr media
moving on...
Tumblr media
sweet alex, he’s all heart. prattling along, just as happy as he can be.
it’s integral to watch our sunshine boy in this scene.
the book & film are both from alex’s perspective, but there’s one thing that we’re afforded between the pages that doesn’t fully make it on screen — his emotional & cognitive layers. & that’s not anybody’s fault & it doesn’t make the film any less incredible, that’s just how adaptations occur sometimes. you can’t translate everything on screen & honestly, that’s the way it should be. some things can just stay in the written story.
tzp did a marvelous job of pulling some of those pieces from the story & threading them into alex’s movements, expressions, & actions. he gave us everything that he could & he did it phenomenally. i can’t imagine anyone else being our alex. i can’t get over how perfectly he was casted.
all this to reiterate, it’s so key to watch alex here.
Tumblr media
we get to see some of his layers. he goes from playful, to pensive, to deeply sincere — “i’ve never felt this way about anyone” — & from there, he shifts into an incredibly exposed emotional space & you see him gather himself, working through his words & trying to share his heart in the most fluent way he can.
Tumblr media
“it’s like there’s a rope attached to my chest & it keeps pulling me towards you.”
there’s never been a moment in his life where can’t share exactly how he feels. he’s always been free to do so. for alex, there was never a question about if he’d tell henry, the question was what he’d tell henry, & once he solved the what, he could proceed with the when.
his mom asked if he felt ‘forever’ about henry & he didn’t consciously know at the time. (i’m a firm believer in the fact that they’ve been in love all along but that’s not the topic right now.) he watches henry in the bar & that’s where he figures it out. the next step is to tell him. point a to b. no detours.
Tumblr media
“& it feels so right”
all heart, all the time. our sunshine boy.
i don’t see fear here, i rarely do in alex, but i do see timidity. so with our eyes on him in this scene, we watch him waffle through his words, barreling toward the inevitable.
he stays in physical contact with henry the entire time — running his hands along his forearm, tangling their fingers together, tracing circles on henry’s wrist & back. i think he needs it here just as much as he wants it.
Tumblr media
the most that alex has ever discovered & understood about himself has been through touching henry. he knows himself best when he’s skin-to-skin with the man he loves.
this moment cannot be any different.
—- “what i mean to say is, henry, i—“
i’d give anything to hear it come out of his mouth fully here. i want to know how it sounds under the texas sun — someplace as bright & warm as he is.
alex has never had to fear his own heart; even in the moments where he wasn't sure where it was going. after the NYE kiss, he went to nora to grapple with his feelings & he tried to talk to henry about it, but he never, ever shied away from how he felt. he wasn't raised to. following that giant, gorgeous heart is in his nature. he's always been encouraged to be exactly who he is.
the same cannot be said for our prince.
Tumblr media
our mythic, beautiful boy. he literally looks like he's crumbling here. mournful, finite cracks in his glistening, alabaster stone. an absolute masterpiece withered by expectation, tainted legacies, hopeless hopes, & crippling fears.
he has to shy away. he doesn't believe or even entertain the idea that he might have a choice. to be so in love, but so trapped that your love can tangle its roots into the earth, but never bloom.
distance & longing take up far too much space in those stunning hazel eyes. it's all too much for him here. no fight or fawn, just freeze and flight. he did it all in expression: from pure bliss, to the dawn of fear, to desperate wanting, to heartbreak, to retreat. (nicholas galitzine, you wonderfully gifted creature)
in our prince’s head, it doesn’t matter how bad he wants to hear the words. it doesn’t matter if he’s loved alex & wanted alex all this time. his heart — their hearts — are of no consequence to the trajectory of their lives. & so, despite all this time; despite everything that’s passed between them in the past year — the firsts & the tender moments, the texts, calls, & emails, the falling in love — henry does the one thing he’s always had to do, lock himself up & run away. just like he did on new year’s eve.
alex has spent a year working him loose; making him feel as free & loved & authentic as he possibly can. he’s kneaded every tight curve, massaged every tensioned inch. & henry has put in the same amount of work learning to allow himself to be cared for. for someone to see his bright places, his passions, his wittiness, tenacity, & sparks.
our boys have grown so much & yet sadly, in a moment, terror bends henry back into an ill -fitting place.
the progress isn’t lost, just tucked away. fear is one hell of a keeper.
Tumblr media
& you see him dressed up again in his suit. ramrod straight, prim & proper, the closed-off prince of england’s hearts that climbed out of his car to meet alex at kensington a year ago. a man of few words & little feeling. because there’s too much risk in feeling. feeling leads you to a dock in the middle of the lake in texas, listening to the man you love willing & ready to love you back, but you can’t be overjoyed — because you’re terrified.
grab your tissues, kids. im sure as hell grabbing mine.

the movie was ADORABLE and it was QUEER and it was CHEESY and HAPPY and SILLY and CUTE and I LOVED it and I have some THOUGHTS and im going to put them here bc idk what else to DO
bad reputation playing after cakegate into the intro credits was the most slay choice
alex is a bracelets man send tweet
the closet scene at the hospital was such a slay 10/10 alex looking like a pissed off little kid the whole time like yeah buddy throw ur little temper tantrum we love to see it
they didn’t say fuck enough times in this movie they said it so many times in the book wtf like you had the r rating already just use it why would you not use it???
the timeline is hurting my brain they’re shifting stuff around I am questioning reality
rip obtuse fucking asshole
TZP 🫶🏻
HISTORY HUH BET WE COULD MAKE SOME IM CRYING
why did we invent miguel he’s a snake literally for why was he there
while we’re on the topic of miguel I disagree with having alex have been w him bc I think it takes away from his complete obliviousness and his thus huge moment of realization w henry so I think we get less of an alex finding himself and more of an alex exploring this part of him that he already knew was there which isn’t inherently bad for a film or book but I just always found alexs discovery of his queerness and the resulting shifting/understanding of things from his past to be such an important part of the book for me personally like just with the rearranging of things he’s always felt but never noticed or payed attention to is very special and gets lost when you give him this queer experience that he’s fully aware and understanding of
zahra for the win
THEMS ON THE BALCONY WITH THE CROWD OUTSIDE THE PALACE IM SO GLAD THEY DIDNT CUT THE CROWD
ugh the yellow rose tie I’m crying
THE FORCED CONFORMITY OF THE CLOSET CANNOT BE ANSWERED WITH FORCED CONFORMITY IN COMING OUT OF IT SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK IM FUCKING SCREAMING
okay so ur going to talk about alexs eyelashes but NOT give the line to henry excuse me????
“take the american with you” im dying at that
girl they called the election so fast ik things move faster in movies but here’s me knowing how LONG it takes in the book and the SUSPENSE and the ADRENALINE and then it was just over like that before you even know it like damn
uma thurman woman that you are 💗
so I was thinking ab when they do the new years count down and these random girls kiss alex and I’m like damn no what it’s supposed to be nora but you know what then I realized they just made nora into a sister figure for alex since they got rid of june so their relationship is and always has been 100% platonic
it was so slay of them to literally open the movie with alex being nervous and thinking he’s going to mess up at the wedding and get rejected like yes thank you for addressing this boys perfectionism and imposter syndrome head on from the very beginning this is the alex we know and love
putting alex and henry in the same room when they’re talking on the phone to each other was such a good choice I love it
they made this movie for the readers you have to know the LORE you have to understand how DEEP henry and alexs relationship is and you simply cannot get that in a two hour film but goddamn did they do a good job trying

Yeah yeah yeah I'd love to hear your thoughts on the dynamics!!!
OKAY. SO. To restate myself: I THINK (almost) EVERY OAK AND CLOSE/FOSTER SHIP IS SO INTERESTING. They always have something fun going on … and also they’re always bi4bi which is deeply important to me. Sorry if any of this is hard to understand I am so so tired XD
Meryl and Hildy are the only two where I’ve not really dedicated thought to them. However, I could absolutely see them as like… you know that trope of a Casanova desperately chasing after the only woman who isn’t interested in him? THAT. THEY ARE THAT TO ME. Hildy is too focused on her career for men and it drives Meryl crazy
My thoughts on Barry and Bill should not be said in a public setting but I will provide this
Tumblr media
Barry is gray and bill is blue. He should fuck that old man (purposefully ambiguous on who I mean). Anyways
My feelings on Glennry are. Well explored LMAO They’re my favorite ship! I know they can be super toxic as a ship, but I do really love them, most of all, as a ship where both parties fight tooth and nail to get better for the other. Because they understand each other and care for one another and the other person is just so so so fucking worth it to them. It makes me happy :]
Henry/Jodie is like, a sleeper agent in my mind. I think they have the capacity to be so fuckin compelling but I’m usually dedicating too much time to Glennry and Rodie to think about it. I LOVE these two though. I’m not usually a huge fan of Jodie struggling with his sexuality (it’s just funnier to me if he dated Scam with no hesitation.) but I’m in love with it specifically for Henry/Jodie contexts. Something about Henry being so loose and free with his sexuality contrasted with Jodie being so buttoned up about everything makes me so fhdksgajdhskdh!!! And of course, it is canon in that one AU-of-an-AU for MnMoms LMAO
Nark <3 one of my original ships and one I’ve been thinking about a lot this weekend. The PEAK of adhd boyfriend/autism boyfriend in my mind. As I said the other day - I love them as established but ambiguous. No one knows what their relationship is, least of all them, but it has been going on for years. I find them really interesting but I don’t tend to agree with some of the like, I dunno, trademark features of popular Nark dynamics? I think Nicky is the type to do anything to get approval from those who cares about, way more so than I’ve seen some people give him credit for (more, maybe they give him too much credit? Wording LOL), and I think Lark feels intense guilt for the mere act of existing, and I think these two characteristics are SO fun to throw up against each other. Also I know Nicky is a cool alt demon boy when they’re teens, but he’s still a cop’s son and I LOOOVE that in contrast to Lark’s hot-to-those-in-his-age-group brooding and general delinquency vibes (ie (our only real example) swapping places with his twin so he can risk his life LMAO). GOD SORRY IM RAMBLING ABOUT NARK NOW I like them. A lot
In contrast to Nark, I think the general consensus on Lovesong is awesome. Sparrow and Nicky liked each other so much as teenagers, they were an adorable T4T couple, they’re adhd boyfriend/autism girlfriend, and now they’re the worlds messiest exes ever and it’s everyone’s problem <3 ohhh sword to throat scene, you will ALWAYS be famous. I also love them with a dynamic of like… Sparrow being much more confident around Nicky, but struggling a lot in general social interactions. Something about her blossoming and opening up when around Nicky in particular, and maybe neither of them even notice at first… but then one day it clicks. They’re just SO comfortable around each other and I love thinking about like. The details of how that relationship dissolves, and how much worse it must have made the betrayal. Their current antagonism is made so so so interesting, especially when Sparrow is such a pushover to everyone BUT Nicky… OUGH. LOVE THEM!!!! (do you guys like how I automatically trans fem Sparrow in Lovesong settings specifically LMAO)
Oakworthy is another one I’ve talked about at length. They are two bugs I am raising in captivity together and they keep trying to each other, so I have to separate them, but I put them back together anyways. Because thIS IS HOW OAKWORTHY CAN STILL WIN-!! I love these two, fully immersed in the fantasy that they’re going to fix things and get together in the end. I think the fact that they both have such strong identity issues but in different ways - Hermie has no idea who he truly is and tries on a million masks to compensate, while Normal tries so desperately to be someone else but his true identity always shows in the end - makes for a REEEALLY interesting dynamic. They both try so hard to be who the other person wants, and fail to realize that what the other wants is for them to be themselves. Makes me crazy
AND FINALLY. NORMAL/TAYLOR. Tayloak <3 only something I’ve started thinking about, like… in the past few weeks XD but I think they’re REALLY FUN. Obviously there’s this massive aspect of Normals jealousy of (and over) Taylor, which can be fun to play with in a “do I want him or do I want to be him” way! I think those types of crushes are SO funny in fiction. And also. Once again. They fit the autism x adhd dynamic except this time, they’re both high energy. Tackling as a love language. To me.
Obviously, all of this is just my personal opinion!!! I do not pretend to know these characters better than anybody else (except Jodie.) and this is just my interpretation of these ships :] if people have wildly different opinions I’d love to hear em as well, just be nice LOL

hi🥺🥺🥺🥺i found your if last night and i just wanna say im obsessed🥺🥺truly! Genuinely helped me getting trough work cause I can’t stop thinking about it and I want to play it through again. The story is so fun, I adore all the love interest we’ve met so far, and your writing is so GOOD.
i LOVE playing characters that are flawed. Some routes are more so the hedonist fault than others but they are genuinely at fault for many things and have so many flaws!!! It’s so fun and it’s refreshing and I just think it adds so much to the game itself. I’m much more invested and ahh idk I just love the potential growth but also yeah maybe they will never learn and I’ll play them as a bastard.
Partial to the harry route at the moment just because it’s (at the moment at least?) the one I’ll see more of the consequences of. Like yeah this affected my whole family and I’ll have to interact with them so- it’s fun to go “oh see there are consequences and they’re occurring right now” But the potential for the other routes are also just delicious.
Confronting your father with Augustus and realising that he never even reflected about the fact that yeah maybe my kid did care for him is I just-
And I will say!! (You’ll have to pay me to shut up) I play my hedonist as a bisexual man and then that whole scene with the father hits SO hard. Like yeah maybe I cheated with a man but that’s what you are you doing. We are just the same. (And the implications of that and how it can be both filled with love and resentment) And how you’ve had this part of you that many others have not liked nor tolerated. And you’ve felt lonely and unseen and then to discover that your father is the same?? That all this time when he found himself frustrated with the world and himself he has always had this father who actually could relate to it?? Idk I think there’s a specific kind of grief and loneliness that comes with with realising that you didn’t actually have to feel alone. I played that scene all possible ways I could and all of them left me with so many bittersweet feelings. I love these complicated relationships…
I just wanted to tell you that I think this IF you’re working on is brilliant and I adore it and I look forward to the next update no matter when it is!! Also if you see me send you thirty more asks after this…sorry I have the brainrot (tm) and since I just found your blog I am not sure what we already know, so feel free to ignore some or pace them out lmao. Thank you for your hard work!!!
HI thank you so much!!!! I don't even know how to respond, this is so kind 😭😭😭😭
you are not the first person to tell me the confrontation with Henry as a male Hedonist on the Harry exile route felt different. it's definitely something I'd like to explore a bit more of as The Hedonist has more of these talks with their father!

See to me- I always just vibed with Alex more than Henry (from the first time I read the book)
And I will admit I was bit ‘eh’ when Taylor (and Nick!!) were announced just because it wasn’t visually what I thought of firstprince but then when I saw them in the outfits and Taylor talking about RWRB I thought yes this is Alex(!) Nick actually had to convince me a bit more.
So, from when I saw the trailer and clips, I was convinced by TZP as Alex and I was impressed by his acting.
But, as everyone says Nick had the chance to shine more. And that is why more articles were written, as well as the obvious (racism). But he had to do several crying/emotional scenes and even the sex scene it was focused on Henry more than alex so he could show the slight facial expressions etc. Hence, Nick could show off a bit more than Taylor could. As even though Alex had difficulties he was largely supported by his family and had Nora. Henry was in a family and Institution that hated him and his dad dying and having to hide himself so Nick could be more sad and emotional whereas Alex’s anxiousness wasn’t a storyline and the divorce was also taken away. This is further proved that Taylor’s most rated scenes were when he discussed racism (which was only talked about once) and his coming out scenes.
But, as I was more drawn to Alex/TZP. From the first time I watched it, I was focusing on them more than Nick/Henry. And I was blown away and as that anon said it is subtle but I think brilliant.
Like, I really feel (maybe I’m wrong) Nick was chosen and asked to play Henry whereas Taylor had to audition for it. So, I do think all the writers and Matthew wanted to give Nick more chance to shine and told him to act things in a certain way(?) Not that they were trying to hinder Taylor but I really feel like they thought Henry is the more emotional one whereas Alex is a bit more laid back but Alex still has undiagnosed ADHD (which again TZP did subtle signals) and anxiety. Like take the eye contact scene in the NYE scene, there was so much more focus on Henry than Alex. Again I do not think Matthew did this in a negative way as he loves Taylor and would not have casted him if he wasn’t convinced but I do think they had a certain vision for Henry.
Sorry for the rant but I just adore Alex and how Taylor played him. To me he is an amazing actor and it is horrible the amount of hate he gets especially as a lot of it if not all is rooted in racism.
Hey there! Thank you for your very interesting message. A lot to unpack in your words so I’m going to try not to be too long.
I wasn’t there before so I didn’t have any opinion on the cast early on but I do understand how hard it is to accommodate with actors when you’ve been sitting with the characters of a beloved book for so long.
I’m completely on board with connecting with TZP’s Alex first. I’ve already talked about it in a previous post so I’m not going to dwell on the subject but you are right indeed about the difference of treatment between actors of comedy and actors of drama. It doesn’t devalue any of their respective work but it does mean we need to jump on every occasion to praise the performance that are overlooked.
What you said next is really interesting even if I’m not sure I agree.
Firstly, because I don’t actually know how Nick has been attached to the project, if he has auditioned or how he was approached for the project. I only know he was on board first and that they struggled for quite a time before finding the right Alex. So I can’t know if or how the process has had any kind of influence over the making of the movie.
Secondly, I have two other theories about why you might feel that way.
The main one is the way the story is told. The book is a Alex’s POV from start to finish and the movie is mostly an exclusive Alex’s POV so you’re supposed to feel that way. Closer to Alex and falling in love with Henry while he does. You need less focus on TZP’s acting to understand who Alex is and what’s his story because you have many scenes to explain how he feels at any second of the movie. But you need to rely on Nick’s acting to understand Henry because you doesn’t get to see the world through his eyes for the majority of the movie.
And since you’re supposed to be in Alex’s shoes, you get to see specific scenes through his eyes. Like the night in Paris. You’re seeing Henry’s face through Alex’s eyes. Hence the moment being so mesmerizing for the audience.
So yeah, I’m pretty sure that’s why you feel like Nick’s was asked to act a certain way or has more chance to shine. In a sense, it’s probably true but for me it was mostly in the service of the storytelling. Since Alex doesn’t look at himself with the same amount of love he has when he looks at Henry, the gaze on him and the way of acting him is different.
That’s for the artistic part of the theory.
When I read your ask I thought about something else and the lovely reality of capitalism 🩷 Since Nick was casted first and was the most known (and the most white) of the two, I guess his name was the more important for the producers and Amazon during the process of making the movie -- in a sense that they've probably relied on him first to drag attention to the movie and money to their pockets. I don’t know movie paper work enough to know if or how and to which extend it could have influenced the movie but I guess it's a possibility.
Of course none of this is Nick’s fault or depreciate his performance as Henry 💜 But it’s an interesting talk, thank you for stopping by my inbox 🙏😘

Do you like tid secondary couples? And if so who is your favourite?
As someone who has read TID all the way through nearly ten times now, I’m pretty solid on all my opinions regarding secondary ships in the series. I’ll go through the following:
Henry X Charlotte
Gideon X Sophie
Gabriel X Cecily
Jessamine X Nate… lol jk
To answer your first question generally, YES, I do love and adore all three of the secondary couples, though I’ll go more in-depth just for fun.
To start with… Henry and Charlotte! Alright, these two are EXTREMELY adorable and I love them with all my being. I’ll answer your second question now: these two have to be my favorite secondary TID ship. Their arc together is so wholesome, going from unsure if the other loves them, to realizing that they do indeed love each other and have always loved each other, to working through a pregnancy… my gosh, I could gush about these two for hours. Though Henry and Charlotte are well-loved by the fandom for how genuine and wholesome their connection is, I do think their relationship arc is extremely underrated and dismissed. The “marriage of convenience” trope suddenly turning around and having been about love the entire time not only makes them an amazing couple in literature but also connects to the TID theme of hidden love. Love these two ❤️
Next, I’ll talk about Gideon and Sophie. I’ll be honest, I can’t rant much about these two. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE them and their relationship, but there isn’t much to talk about. They’re amazingly wonderful together, and their little side plot of Sophie being a servant and Gideon being a shadowhunter was intriguing, and I remember wondering what would happen between them when I first read TID six years ago. The scone scene is nothing short of iconic, and the love between them is genuinely beautiful. These two are simple but great!
Then there’s Gabriel and Cecily! I’m going to be honest, the first few times I read TID, I was a bit weirded out by this pairing. I couldn’t quite understand the reasoning behind Cassie matching them up besides a convenient “everyone falls in love with everyone at the end” trope that TID seems to have. The fact that he was 18 when she was 15 also creeped me out, and it wasn’t like I was that fond of Gabriel as a character in the first place. But I believe as I started growing older, and especially after I read TLH for the first time, I could find something to love about these two. Their interactions are quite silly and entertaining in Clockwork Princess, and Gabriel as a character has really warmed up to me, too, which subsequently helped this couple warm up to me. I think the hilarious impossibility of these two being together is what makes me appreciate them the most, more than anything- I mean, who would have thought Gabriel would end up marrying Will’s sister… after Will constantly taunted Gabriel about Tatiana? I think it’s funny as hell.

The end of the year is near! Give a shoutout to your favorite blogs and tag them to spread positivity before the year ends! (from: a secret anon)
FUCK YEAH!!!!
okay my favorite theory/analysis blogs
@aemiron-main - actually i hate him. im lying. all he does is cause me unimaginable pain and suffering. no but genuinely a genius theorist and has eyes like a hawk!! he does a fantastic job at thoroughly combing the show and finding the littlest details that don’t make sense in order to build a bigger picture and i eat it up every time! love him even though i think he’s goading me to kill myself whenever he reblogs one of my posts and the tags start with “wibble what if i told you”
@bugsbenefit - my absolute favorite blog to read about narrative analysis from!!! they do an amazing job explaining oddities from a narrative position as well as identifying ways certain theories are either supported by or don’t work with the way the narrative needs to flow in S5. she’s also super skilled at keeping my attention throughout a post with the way she writes
@bylerschmyler - love this guy because they’re not afraid to point out the flaws of something and create counter arguments but they also aren’t doing that stuff to discredit a theory but rather challenge its strength!! like they won’t press on if the original theory can go against the counter points they make. PLUS they create incredible theories of their own!!! the mike is the 4th victim stuff is really good
@finalgirlbyers - idc if they consider themself an analysis blog or not because I do. they regularly have fantastic takes and explain things in a quick and easy to understand way. she genuinely has a great grasp on the show but she’s also very open minded which is always so nice to see!! like if you’re looking for short, sweet, banger posts that hit the nail on the head i am pointing at their blog
@heroesbyler - ok. stav is the only person whose analysis i have legitimately cried over. the approach she takes to covering the very serious and dark topics of stranger things is something i really appreciate because she doesn’t curve the pure horror of some of the stuff going on. if you really wanna feel just how horrific the gay horror show is i’d recommend reading some of stav’s analysis because she NAILS it and does not mask just how fucked up it can get.
@laozuspo - james always has some incredibly niche but great insight to the show!! theory wise, i’m always amazed by how intricate his research for a theory will get so when you read his posts it’s just evidence on top of evidence and it’s always really engaging and VERY interesting. radiationgate had me hooked for days because there was just SO much to explore regarding that topic and there were so many little details that just make so much sense!!!
@mlchaelwheeler - MY SISTER IN MICHAEL DEFENSE!!! one of the original mike defenders and someone who i trust to accurately talk about mike’s character, which is saying a lot because i’m Me. ALSO she kick started so many great conversations!! iirc, she was the one who made the original theory about henry having been the one who kidnapped will, not the demogorgon way back in like. June. she’s been on it longer than any of us
favorite authors :)
@andiwriteordie - ok SO i have to tell you guys that this shit??? my life hasn’t been the same since i first read this. i know it’s an older one but it’s in my top three fics of all time i legitimately adore it!! pure jet fuel for that last week before V2 dropped and honestly part of me still really wants that final scene to happen in S5 ngl. like it kills me every time i read it but it’s just so GOOD
@astrobei - oh suni, how i her love writing. always a GREAT time when you’re reading an astrobei fic, and i think my favorite is still this one!! it’s just got such a fun vibe and the characterization is immaculate and the plot is really intriguing! it’s one of those fics where you can’t stop reading even though it’s like half the length of an entire novel. sometimes sleep is worth the sacrifice and this fic is one of them
@blueeandyellowmakesgreen - top ten reasons to kill myself; this ficlet. jade i absolutely love you but this??? fuck you for making me go through that not once but TWICE. i felt that shit in my SOUL and it HURT. it hurt SO BAD. writing so good it makes you immobile for 6.5 hours because you can’t stop replaying the image in your head 🖕🖕 (<3)
@/byeler - ok not actually @-ing this person because we’ve never interacted and i’m not about to make a fool of myself by being a little fanboy loser BUT. absolutely incredible writing. reading this had me so fucking sucked in dude, like i was reading and reading and i couldn’t believe time had passed at all. pure romance can be hard for me to steam roll through sometimes but i genuinely forgot that I was a Person while reading that
@elekinetic - ummmmmm hello??? script writer of all time? you’re not just reading it, you’re not just watching it, you’re being transported inside the show with the way she writes. every single character is on point and she maintains the atmosphere of the show itself BEAUTIFULLY!!! my favorite script thus far is probably the one where eddie gets shot, though it doesn’t seem like it’s up anymore. the ending has me gasping out loud because i saw it happening in real time in front of my eyes
@smoosnoom - MOON!!!! OHHHHH MY GOD i can’t even recommend one specific thing because every fic is just soooooo giggles twirls my hair. i am the number one smoosnoom fanboy. i fucking eat that shit up!!! like, whenever it’s time to read a smoosnoom fic I don’t just open the fic i KNOW i’m not moving till i’m done so i get some snacks and get really comfy and then i dive in and don’t move till i’m finished. every fic absolutely slays i cannot recommend every single fic enough
favorite editors!!!
@strangersynth - do i really have to say anything?? it’s time. like no shit he’s one of the best editors around and i think everyone knows that at this point. THE editor!! absolutely obsessed with every video. i really like the way she takes clips that aren’t really character clips but just stuff you wouldn’t even really think of or remember to build the tone of the video and it always comes together so well!!! like it’s the small details that he nails and that make the videos so incredibly delicious
@/thatgaymood - ok they just made a lot of funny edits + they’re really good at adjusting audio/visuals to make the character say and do shit that definitely didn’t happen but it’s really really well done so it’s just. I don’t know how to explain it. i was gonna find one of the more popular audios but i was scrolling their blog and found this and it made me kick my feet a little cause like. idk watch it and you’ll understand

If you want a space to rant about ST season 4 and its horror flaws I would love to hear your thoughts---i just rewatched seasons 1 and 2 so I'm in the thinking about it mode
Ohhhh I’m vibrating with all I have to say but I’m going to stick to the horror flaw theme and leave out most of my other non horror related thoughts. Ok so starting off: I actually like most of the first three seasons of Stranger Things. I think season 3 is flawed in a lot of ways but there’s enough that I like there that it’s watchable for me. I know a lot of people feel differently so I’m just putting that out there first.
Season 4 starts strong. The first episode? Good! The dnd/basketball scene? Fantastic! The scene with Eddie and Chrissy? Adorable, great character building. I think one of the strengths of this show has always been the acting, especially from the younger actors, and I think that remains true. And in terms of horror, Chrissy’s death scene is super spooky.
Episode 2 is where it falls apart. The reason I said ‘horror rule number 1’ is because while it might not be a general hard and fast rule (there are plenty of things that don’t do it and are still good and scary), it’s generally accepted, especially in creature features (which ST TECHNICALLY IS) that you shouldn’t show off your creature right away. Jaws? You don’t see the shark until the climax. The Thing? You see people transform and mutate early enough, but you don’t see the full spider body horror monstrosity until well through the film. And Stranger Things season 1 does this perfectly; people are taken/killed left and right, but aside from a blurry photo we don’t see the demigorgon until the LAST EPISODE. Now, yes this is often done for budget reasons, but it’s a good technique! Not being able to see what you’re running from makes it scarier. Showing us Vecna in the second episode? His whole body? With his tentacles? It’s a cool shot sure, but it’s unnecessary and immediately makes him less scary. He’s just a weird dude! They’re trying to do like. Power scaling. But it doesn’t connect well to prior seasons and the world building is really finicky at best.
I know it’s season four and they’re trying to explain stuff because we’re coming to the end of the show and they want to wrap up the mystery, but here’s a thought: sometimes things…. Should stay mysteries. The upside down, as a concept, is very cool and scary, and in trying to explain it they just opened more cans of worms and it’s still a mystery but now it’s almost more fantasy/eldritch sci fi then the grounded sci fi that it was and so some of the believability falls away. Also adding magic glowing dust is a retcon and ridiculous we know that’s not how the lights work. And I LIKE alien eldritch horror ok you know that but that’s not what stranger things IS it shouldn’t BE HERE. Also making your villain just the “weird spooky probably neurodivergent child” trope? Don’t like it, I think they could have had Henry find a small portal to the (already existing I don’t think El should’ve made it) upside down and that corrupted him and mind controlled him and given him some base power (kinda like Will in season 2) would’ve worked just as well, but that’s just an idea.
Another issue with the horror: it’s rushed! Why is Max’s Possession scene in episode 4! It shouldn’t be there! It’s a great scene, but it’s WAY to great and climactic to be happening BEFORE THE MIDPOINT OF THE SEASON? There’s another climax with max but it almost feels less important despite the fact that she basically dies. AND WITH BARELY ANY OF THE CAST THERE? That’s a separate issue but really quick: horror partially comes from the awareness of the characters, and then the audience being aware of the characters awareness. Either the character is aware of the horror which can create stress, (ie. Watching Will in season 1 as he tries to avoid the monster in episode 1) or the character is unaware (shouting ‘he’s right behind you! In scream) which can also create stress. But in the latter section, the film/tv show/whatever has to emphasize that lack of awareness. Meaning if for instance, one of your best friends is about to die, and you’re a MAIN CHARACTER and you have NO IDEA, it might behoove the writers to nod to that somehow to twist the knife a bit. Like El is so important in the second Max climax but isn’t even remotely important in the first scene. Cmon. But that’s just my opinion and a little off topic anyway also the Russia stuff slows down the plot and I don’t care about it and they used a nazi prison and then tried to monetize it as a hotel experience Ls all the way down.
Tldr a lot of the horror was ruined because things were rushed/shown to early and overcomplicated. Something needed to be cut so that other things could flourish.
This is no where close to all my thoughts on season 4, trust me I’ve got a whole like. PowerPoint/video essay locked in here and also I have a head cold right now so apologies if this isn’t coherent. Or if I’m wrong I’m not watching the season again to check.

Top 10 movies
Tagged by @aeide like....29 days ago. Cool. A lot of stuff happened lately and also I had to think about this and remake the list at least 7 (now 9) times. So. This is probably not true but it has old favorites and current bias and I’ve put far too much thought into this. Under cut because of gifs causing loading/flashing. Uhhhhh. I feel weird about tagging this, since it’s been so long. I can’t remember who has done it and who hasn’t. Gonna tag folks who I don’t remember seeing. If you’ve done it, or you don’t want to, that’s cool! Sorry I took forever with it. @blue-mono, @cataliinaa, @whereforartthoumisthios, @fikali, anyone else who wants?
1) The Hours
Tumblr media
It has music by Philip Glass! Meryl Streep plays a queer woman and that was important to me as a teenager. It’s very sad but it is always there for me when I feel bleak. It’s just a part of my psyche and I can’t really explain it at this point.
2)  Lord of the Rings 2: The Two Towers (Extended Version)
Tumblr media
Every Thursday for about 8 years the closest group of cousins and I would watch a movie while we had our piano lessons and most of those years we just watched LOTR 2 and 3 extended versions. Every Thursday. For about 8 years. 2/4 people (including me) are most likely autistic, yes. 2/4 (not including me) can play the piano. We are very annoying about LOTR. Anyways, look! It’s Haldir! The first man I loved to die of a weapon through the head. Yeah. I love that guy. Also, this film has great french horn!
3) Pride and Prejudice (2005)
Tumblr media
I cannot express how much I love this movie. I cannot explain all the things about it I love. I cannot. Music is by Dario Marianelli (I can play to the second page of the score to “Living Sculptures of Pemberly” on piano. It only took 5 years), Directed by Joe Wright, Kiera Knightley stars as Elizabeth Bennett. I adore the dresses, the hair, the casting, the music, the fact that Simon Wood’s hair continued growing red after filming, the statues in Pemberly, the tiling on the floors in Pemberly, the way Mary plays the piano, Georgiana, Darcy’s sideburns, the HAND FLEX, the weird pig scene, The flower Tom Hollander holds, the nod to Henry Purcell, ect. 4) Anna Karenina (2012)
Tumblr media
Dario, Joe, Kiera, and a train walk into a movie. Do not get me started.
5) The Parent Trap (1998)
Tumblr media
I saw this as a kid and made my mom watch it with me over and over and over again. She didn’t mind. She thinks she’s like Chessy, but she’s not. She doesn’t cook, for one. And she doesn’t wear a denim shirt. I do though. We still quote this to each other. Formative.
6) A Place Promised in Our Early Days
Tumblr media
An earlier Makoto Shinkai movie. The plot is confusing and boring if I’m honest. The background animations are breathtaking. If you like anime but also like  realism in art, I’d highly recommend any Makoto Shinkai movie for visuals.
7) The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015)
Tumblr media
Do you ever just want to eat a sandwich and listen to old italian music and watch your enemy best friend and lover drown? No? huh. Amazing soundtrack! Spy drama! COSTUMING. It makes me laugh! Henry Cavill! Solo/Kuryakin/Teller should be canon. I was pretty upset about the whole Armie Hammer thing, tbh, because I really wanted a sequel to this. But I’m ok with that not happening.
8) Fly Away Home
Tumblr media
The first media I wallowed in. Would rewind to the scene with Mary Chapin Carpenter’s “10,000′s miles” and sit way too close to the screen. When we got it on dvd my life changed. I could just press the button!? I didn’t care about the geese, really. I cared about the deep grief this kid was having. Someone probably should have questioned why I was watching it on repeat and gotten me into therapy a lot earlier. All in all, it’s a pretty movie.
9) A Single Man
Tumblr media
I love this movie but I gotta admit I skip around watching it. It’s so depressing, I can’t watch it all at the same time. I like the music a lot, good cello. I love watching Colin Firth be miserable. I like crying with George. I don’t give a shit about Charley (except for her house and dress. Sorry Julianne Moore.) I hate Kenny. I want to live in George’s house. I want to live there. It is the J.W. Schaffer House. It’s a modernist house built in 1949 by John Lautner. I want to lick touch that woodwork. UGH. The glass. UGH. I love it. UGH. It’s such an impractical house. UGH. It’s so dumb. UGh. I want to go lay down on the floor, surrounded by books, in that house. uGH.
10) Underworld
Tumblr media
What a dumb movie. Somewhere in my mom’s house is a Windows XP with a folder of photos of Selene that I thought were really cool, for some reason that I couldn’t figure out. That computer also has viruses from badly pirating the movie in 2008. I thought it was the coolest thing I’d ever seen and probably the first R rated movie I snuck. On this list because of the family computer destruction. And the ‘armor’, if you can call it that.

1122 Spoilers
Overall this was a decent TWD episode.
The montage is for Negan. I am pretty sure Hilarie Burton Morgan being credited for an episode was due to the montage.
Nice little eye f**k between Daryl and Carol in opening minutes.
Team Family makes their plans to infiltrate ASZ and we get this incredible bit of dialogue from Daryl to Connie: “You, me...down shit tunnel.”
This is where I lament the time that was completely wasted on the Reapers arc. A 9 episode arc that could have been completed in about 3 episodes honestly. I think my frustration is that by the time this rolled around...the end of the series had been announced and alterations/rewrites to the script could have been done. The CW arc could have had way more exposition and depth if we had not wasted time with the Reapers.
I said that, so I could say this. I am just not that invested in Negan and Annie. Show me...don’t tell me. Same with Luke and Jules. That ominous cliffhanger with Oceanside and we basically are just told from Luke’s standpoint what happened there. (I’m glad Luke and Jules made it though).
Ah the tunnel scene that had everyone worried was a big nothing burger. Connie and Daryl are friends and they are worried about rescuing their family. It was a nice moment actually, but the shipbaiting will mercifully end soon. (To be clear, the playlist furor was much ado about nothing)
Carol and Maggie have a lovely scene, that could have only occurred between the two of them. I definitely got Same Boat vibes when they find Hershel and let me tell you folks....absolutely NO hesitation on the part of Carol to end the life of the trooper who was threatening Hershel.
Just prior to Hershel’s rescue, we see that the warden character has Kelly held at gunpoint and Daryl sneaks up behind him and mortally wounds him. Kelly and Connie get a sweet reunion.
I loved the synchronicity of Daryl and Carol helping their family reunite with their loved ones. These scenes play right behind each other and I think that was definitely intentional.
Another scene I liked and don’t hate me for it was Negan and Ezekiel. Ezekiel hasn’t forgotten or forgiven the havoc Negan wreaked back in the day. Negan is a family man now and Ezekiel does not seem ready for Negan to have that. We get a Benjamin mention and I am glad he wasn’t forgotten.  Negan gives it right back to him though and mind you I am looking at this through eyes of someone who adores Carol. Negan mentions that he isn’t gonna standby and not protect his family and although she wasn’t mentioned, I have to wonder if Negan had thoughts of Carol avenging Henry’s death while Ezekiel was not participatory in Carol’s revenge quest. (This is probably just me, but hey, I can’t help my thoughts).
Eugene had a nice courtroom monologue and I must give credit to Laila Robbins for convincing me at how bad an actor Pamela is. For Kangaroo Court...we should always reference these courtroom scenes.
I will say that I have never been one to say the news of spinoffs spoiled moments in the episode for me, but I will say the suspense of the final ten minutes was tempered by the fact that we know Negan moves on to NYC for his spinoff.  But a still very good and heartpounding TeamFamily scene. Rosita is so savage and I am here for it.
Only 2 episodes left and still we await the promised heart to heart for Caryl. I am hopeful and hopeful we will know more about how Carol’s and Caryl’s story continues after the finale. But admittedly, there is not a lot of time left for this to be resolved. I still think we could get canon...the satisfaction of said canon remains to be seen though.

Hi! I'm sorry you're not feeling well!
Can you give us some Henry acts like a big brother/ protects/ takes care of Aiden (not necessarily when they were kids, but in the present too)?
Hope you feel better soon!
Hey! Thank you for this message, I’m sorry I’m only answering it now, it’s been a few busy days. But at least I feel better now!
First I’d like to thank you for the birthday gift again, cause I’m still happy thinking about it. It was so fun to read! And I appreciate that you put time in writing for my two idiot sons (affectionate) ^^
Now on to your question! Most of the things I’ll have to say refer to them being children, since they spent many years where they were older apart. But I think you’ll enjoy it still ^^
Henry is actually a great big brother. It’s like he was born for it. Aside from him leaving Aiden behind when he ran away, he’s always been there for Aiden. He practically raised him in the years after their mother died.
He already took care of him when Aiden was still a baby and Henry would rock him back to sleep so he won’t wake their parents. When they were kids, Henry consoled him after nightmares, sang or read to him and he made sure that Aiden wasn’t too reckless (the latter didn’t always work).
I think we all know Henry is pretty much a caretaker. He wiped away Aiden’s tears when they were playing in the forest and Aiden got hurt after not listening to Henry. He treated the little scratches Aiden tended to get, carried him home on his back of the younger boy was tired. He polished his bow for him.
Being an older sibling is always at least occasionally teasing your younger sibling and Henry does that too. Like he still makes fun of Aiden for the cow accident TM
Henry can be quite protective of Aiden, too, though he knows that Aiden can defend himself quite well. He saved Aiden from getting hit at least twice if not more often.
And when the Knights of the Alder want one of them as hostage years later, Henry is immediately ready to be the one. When it ends up being Aiden anyway, he travels after him to get him out no questions asked.
Because Henry feels guilty for leaving Aiden, I think once they found each other again he will continue to care for/be protective of Aiden. Maybe even a bit too much, haha. Aiden would probably complain but secretly he’d adore getting his brother’s attention like that again.
Under the cut I’ll put a little bonus scene for you that i wrote a while ago :)
“What if he doesn’t wake up? If he gets lost in this dream?” Henry asked, carefully running his hand through his sleeping brother’s hair.
He couldn’t stand the thought of losing Aiden too. Not when they had just found each other again.
“He will wake up,” Quinn assured him.
“Seer have more control over their dreams than normal people do. He’ll wake once he found what he’s looking for.”
Henry could only hope that they were right. “Do not worry, my lord. This boy is stronger than he seems.”
He smiled to himself.
“I know,” he stood up. “He’s always been.”
Carefully he adjusted the blanket that had slipped from Aiden’s shoulder. Henry pressed his lips against the boy’s brow like he used to when he was still a little child.
“I know you can do it,” he whispered and Aiden stirred in his sleep, as if he heard him.

Once upon a time for the ask game thingy hehe
Okay, both you @itsfabianadocarmo and @cosette141 asked for my answers on this for OuaT, so here goes!!! 😜
Fandom Ask Game
Send me a movie/book/show and I'll tell you:
favorite character: I mean, the obvious answer here is Killian Jones. And, believe me, I do love our pirate hero very, very much. But my true favorite character of the entire show (hopefully no one throws me out of the CS fandom for this) is Sheriff Graham/the Huntsman. I just adored him from the first time we met him. My heart still breaks for him. And I am always going to think he deserved better (and we deserved more of him!)
Tumblr media
least favorite character: Probably either Cora/the Queen of Hearts or Gothel/Eloise Gardiner in Season 7
brOTP: I do really enjoy some Captain Charming - they have such a fun bros and family both connection! - but my heart really belongs to Killian and Belle. Captain Book/Captain Beauty, whichever you want to call it is such a lovely friendship. I treasure every teeny little scene of it we got to see. There’s something so redemptive and wonderful in them overcoming their past animosity and becoming friends, and I absolutely adore them bonding and having each other’s backs! 💖
Tumblr media
OTP: It’s Captain Swan, absolutely, all the way, they’ve really taken over most of my imagination and free time! 😅 (In all fairness, I did at the start think Gremma, or HuntSwan, could be my True Love OTP, but the show very literally killed that possibility. And of course, we then met a certain dashing rapscallion who managed to win Emma’s heart… 😏)
OT3: This isn’t really a category I give lots of thought. I have read some amazing fic though with Liam/Killian/Emma as an OT3. The one that I’d call my favorite though is what I’ve sometimes seen called Irish Swan Trio: Killian/Graham/Emma. (That I would happily read more of, if it was more commonly written. 🤭)
NOTP: I have (very rarely, thankfully) stumbled upon mostly modern au fics that have Regina and Graham hooking up, or friends with benefits, or friendly exes. I absolutely cannot handle that; it is so far from what that situation truly was and it’s just upsetting to his memory. I’m also not at all a fan or HookedQueen or SwanQueen. Neither of those make much sense to me, nor does Regina even seem to like either of them much or treat them at all well. Why would they be in a relationship?
favorite storyline: It’s probably, honestly, season one. Where we first see Emma coming to Storybrooke, getting to know her son, discovering magic and fairytales are real, figuring out who all the townspeople were in the storybook, all of that. The magic is so enchanting in that first season, and it seems the most tightly well-written to me. I often say the first season’s only real flaws are Graham’s death and Killian not being there yet!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If that’s too huge a chunk to be a favorite storyline, then I’d probably say the Save Henry trip to Neverland.
least favorite storyline: I am not a fan of the second half of Season 2. It gets all convoluted and disjointed to me, and Greg and Tamara were so pointless and annoying. I don’t know if that’s so much a storyline as a least favorite segment because there doesn’t seem to be as clear a storyline, but there you are all the same. 🤷🏼‍♀️
what I wish had happened but didn't: I’m never going to stop wishing that Emma and Killian had gotten a rainbow blast True Love’s Kiss like all the other True Love couples. I know their True Love was proven in another way, but still, come on!!! 🤨
Even more than that though, I wish
1) that Emma and Killian would have had a secret small, private wedding in the Underworld with Liam performing it so he could be there, which would be an excellent callback to Snow and Charming’s first private wedding performed by Lancelot so Charming’s mother could be there.
Tumblr media
And 2) that when we learned about the meanings behind the gravestones in the Underworld they would have gone and found Graham’s and at least learned that he had passed on and was at peace.
**Maybe I should have mentioned 5b as a not-so-favored storyline - so much potential wasted!
what happened that I wish hadn't: I would have loved them to do so much more with Jekyll and Hyde (and Jafar, for that matter) rather than split Queenie and the Black Fairy in Season 6 😝 I also would not have had Ruby run off with Dorothy.

Episode 4
Back at it again!!
Whew! This episode had me in a choke hold, I definitely enjoyed it and am excited to hear what everyone thinks about a couple things I noticed. So here are my thoughts for tonight’s episode.
As always, spoilers for both the show and game (including a slight Part 2 spoiler) are below the cut!
Ellie looking at herself in the mirror reminds me of a spot in the second game where she stood in a bathroom with Joel in the background and made faces lol
Was I the only one on the verge of screaming “But is the safety on??” while she was handling a gun?? (I mean yeah, I get she has official FEDRA training but even a trained person can make a mistake)
I canNOT begin to express to you how happy I am that they FINALLY showed the pun book
(I’m trying to focus on the scene where Joel is siphoning gas but all I can think of is how good Pedro looks in those jeans)
THEY DID THE CUT SCENE THEY DID THE CUT SCENE THEY DID THE CUT SCENE
It’s my favorite cut scene from the first game, Ellie fucking with Joel about the magazine always cracked me up every time, and the fact that it looks almost EXACTLY like the one in the game?? The amount of detail in this series gives me such Chicken Soup for the Soul type feelings (points to those of you that get that reference)
Why am I cackling at seeing an Arby’s sign?
Joel lying to protect Ellie, I mean chances are he was actually telling the truth but even in a remote location such as that you can’t be too careful about keeping your guard up (and then he stayed up to keep them safe, Joel my beloved I adore your protectiveness but you need to sleep too babe) And also them mirroring the “Okay” from the game where Ellie/Sarah just accept that Joel has the situation taken care of
We finally get Joel’s coffee addiction on screen lol (and of course watching Pedro’s mouth at work is always a plus when it involves eating/drinking something)
Tommy being a “joiner” wasn’t really elaborated on in the game, so I’m glad they’re emphasizing that aspect of his personality (also the Desert Storm thing makes more sense now)
Joel calling Ellie “cargo”, acting like she’s just a promise he has to keep for Tess and nothing more, Joel you adorably grumpy cinnamon roll, you put your jacket on her to keep her warm while she slept, you made sure she was well fed, you want her to get some sleep because she needs it, who you trying to fool babe?
So they switched Pittsburgh for Kansas City
Joel why didn’t you grab your backpack????
I’m glad they changed it from Ellie killing the guy to just paralyzing him, I want that slow-fade instead of just making her a mini-assassin
So the group that took over the city is much larger than what we see in the game
I can’t tell if Pedro is just acting like Joel has a stiff back or if his actual back pain aided in his performance
Him checking on Ellie was just……omg this man has my heart all over again
Not her first time??? Okay I may need to make a post about this, but I’m pretty sure this has to do with her and [redacted]........(I’m making a separate post for this, it’s too much of a potential spoiler for the series)
Sam really loves Superman, or at least the version that HBO could get away with lol
Is the tendril network underneath the crater???? Why does it look like it’s breathing??? (Why am I getting the feeling that we’re going to see a bloater soon??)
I love that they included the sound trap tactic, I hope we get to see more of it
Joel still trying to console Ellie, I love him your honor
I wonder how much Pedro had to hold back to avoid laughing too much because you just know he had a hard time filming those pun book scenes because he had to be so serious about it lol
SAM AND HENRY SAM AND HENRY
They used the song “True Faith” from Part 2!!!! I adore that song!!
I was equal parts tickled beyond measure, and on the edge of my seat with this episode. Going from such a beautiful episode like “Long, Long Time” to THIS? I’ve got whiplash, but in a really good way lol. Can’t wait for next week!!
Endure and survive!!

I am hilariously invested in a platonic Fake Relationship where after Mary finds out, she's hurt and angry and wants to distance herself, but also pragmatic enough to know that remaining in favor is contingent on maintaining a good relationship with Anne and Henry, and down the line, in case KoA or someone else close to Mary tries to attack Thomas, she does not want her animosity with him to draw suspicion upon her.
So she resolves to swallow her disgust and pretend to be fine with their relationship and starts actively spending time around him, working on monastery reforms, spending time with him, Henry/Anne and the kids as a family, etc... only for it to backfire as she genuinely starts to like him and see him as a loving husband/father, and Oh Fuck, I've Caught Daughterly Feelings, what do I do now?
I ended up doing this as a fictional tumblr user doing a not!fic
Someone write the fic about Mary Tudor going ’…fuck he’s a good dad I HATE IT’ and her subsequent journey.
theroundtableofa
No OP it’s actually the best platonic fake relationship enemies to dad shaped in the entire history of anything.
-at some point after George is born Mary puts it together and freaks the fuck out and probably understandably she entirely blames Tom Cromwell for the entire thing.
-she thinks about telling. I mean we know she has that conversation in the show (historically we don’t know - I mean that. We really don’t know anything for certain about what Mary knew) with herself/god in the church and she’s like ’I should tell! It’s my duty, lord why do I feel awful at the thought HATE IT FOR ME.’
-Henry works it out, has his (also understandable in all honesty) demand for an oath and Mary is absolutely doubling down on Blaming Tom Cromwell For Everything That Has Gone Wrong Here.
-At some point she realises that she has to be nice to him and look, I would not want to have been in the house that day I’m just saying, love you Mary but would not have wanted to be around for that one.
-So she’s like FUCK IT FINE I’LL DO IT BUT I’LL COMPLAIN IN MY MIND THE WHOLE TIME. I WILL.
-Mary just wants to hang out with her siblings and her mothers lbr.
-But she has to deal with Tom Crom because Henry/Anne is not going to have Tom Crom absent himself just because Mary is Having A Homophobia (and understandably) and she’s like, this is going to be Awful.
-Except. Except. He’s such a good dad to her younger siblings. Patient, kind, always willing to listen and so gentle - clearly adores them. He never asks for anything from Henry or Anne - he’ll give them advice but only if they ask and he’s so quietly supportive. And she’s like ‘…..FUCK.’ because she cannot hold onto her image of this man as a depraved heretic monster AT ALL . It is the absolute WORST.
-Then like, you know the scene in the show where he’s like ’Mary I was wrong and you are absolutely right’ just repeat that over and over and she just…SHE CANNOT. WHY IS THIS MAN SUCH A GOOD PARENT AND CONSORT AND EVERYTHING.
tv: the tudors sunstarmoon marytudormeta tudorsmeta mary tudor just the most i hate this decent parenting energy you can imagine i want a comedy mini series mary is like ’…i fucking hate this why isn’t he terrible’

Stranger Things S4
It was a jumbled disjointed mess. It had some top notch acting and some really lovely moments. But as a cohesive narrative it was severely lacking.
I had hope Vol. 2 would tie at least some of the plot lines together but no dice. It, for the most part, felt as though they sacrificed characters in the name of plot. And to be honest, I’m not sure the plot was worth it.
The only somewhat coherent plot was the Vecna/One/Henry reveal. Bringing back Brenner served no purpose other than revictimizing El. And I still don't understand why we needed to waste time on Sullivan. We definitely spent too much time in Russia in Vol. 1 and too little time in California.
I already ranted about the retconning of Steve’s character. His dream is sweet and understandable for an only child of absentee parents. And I do hope he gets it one day. But him saying he always wanted it with Nancy? It just shows how little he knows her. The fact she never got to express herself about it irks me as well. Although I decided to take Robin interrupting them and saying they were indeed on the right path even though she thought they were going the wrong way, as an indication that the path both Nancy and Steve were on - the separate path, was indeed the right one.
The thing I hate the most about the forced return to a Stancy romance is how it destroys three characters with one stupid decision. The biggest damage was done to Jonathan. But it also reduced Nancy to a prop. And undid a lot of Steve’s character development. And the more I think about it, the angrier I get.
Other two characters whose journey seemed all over the place and without rhyme or reason are El and Robin.
Robin seemed like a totally different person for most part. Her friendship with Steve luckily remained intact but I hardly recognized her between the seasons as the same person. And it was not a thing of learning more about a character. It was learning different. And it was jarring. And then in the last scene they went and just gave this new characterization to Vicky for a good measure. Make it make sense, please.
With El what bother me the most was the inconsistency of her speech patterns. Which doesn’t seem like much but it kind of shows how they don’t really have a handle on where she is on her journey. And she mostly seemed to be there just for exposure of the Vecna/One/Henry plot line which is a crying shame.
Dustin was the absolute MVP of the whole season. His scene with Eddie’s uncle was pure gold. Heartbreaking as it was. I loved his friendship with both Eddie and Steve a lot. They did at least something well.
Argyle was the best addition ever. The way he just rolled with everything but also was unhinged in his very own way the whole time. Delicious.
I was never fully invested in Joyce and Hopper but they were absolutely adorable in Vol. 2 and I couldn’t be happier for them. They are the perfect team. And their matching outfits were golden. And of course Murray. Murray makes everything better.
In Vol. 2 they also finally remembered what an amazing big brother Jonathan is. Those two scenes with him and Will were heart wrenching but oh so beautiful as well. And the acting, top notch.
Speaking of acting, Sadie Sink, what a performance. I could wax poetics about her all day.
As much as Eddie’s death hurt, to me, narratively, his was the only satisfying arc. I wish I could watch a whole ass show about him but within the story he did it all and it was really hard to imagine where his character would go had he lived. Other than prison for murders he did not commit. Or on the run. And that would be even more unfair.
On a shipping note, the Jonathan & Nancy reunion gave me life. And Mike’s love and trust being El’s power supply was so satisfying and consistent and beautiful. And Max and Lucas being probably the healthiest and most mature couple of the lot.
Yeah, can you tell I’m disappointed and angry? Now I don’t really have expectations for S5. But hopefully the only way is up. *fingers crossed*

Thoughts on King Henry the Sixth Part I
Usually I will break these down further into the Acts, but for now, I wanted to talk about this one in one big chunk. Mainly because I didn’t start taking notes in the beginning.
Each night I curled up in my reading chair that wouldn’t be out of place in my grandfather’s home, and read with my reading lamp and usually my dog curled up between my legs being his adorable self. I had this big thick volume cracked open on the left armrest because that was closest to the light and cast the least amount of shadows. I usually tried to have a mug, coffee, hot cocoa, or tea, in that order (sorry everyone, I like coffee better).
To begin with: I had no idea what was being said almost the entire time. Shocker, I know. I tried my best to avoid glazing over but ocasnaionaly it happened and when I tried to find the spot where my eyes just started scanning instead of processing, I couldn’t. So if I missed something, I’m sorry, I’ll catch it on the reread.
Something that jumped out to me immediately, is I don’t think King Henry, the titular character, even showed up until Act III of V. For the most part, especially early in the story, the cast was made up of Earl’s all named after town’s that are in New England, I assume they’re probably in actual England as well but it is way funnier to imagine the Earl of Warwick going home to Warwick, Rhode Island and having to say “Wicked” constantly.
Joan of Arc - is a character!? She is almost the antagonist but also I find her extremely sympathetic because, well, it’s Joan of Arc. Also, I pictured her as Vanessa Hudgeson’s the whole time, thanks Drunk History, she was one of two characters that stood out to me.
As I was reading, I noticed two things about how I read these lines in my head. Without fail, I would read one line as speeding up and the one after as slowing down, and repeated this almost the entire time. I don’t think this was the actual rhythm that it’s meant to be read in but it’s what I defaulted to. The other, is that if I tried to picture someone reading the line, it was usually a man in his mid 30s, set against a black backdrop on a wooden proscenium stage, with like an angle of looking up at him from a slight bit left of house center. The man was lit from a top light, and his face was always blurred, and he always yelled his lines very angrily, still in that fast then slow rhythm. If anyone knows why my brain uncreatively placed these characters, please let me know.
Midway through Act IV, Talbot and his son begin speaking in rhyming couplets. I was looking for it before, I may have missed it, but this was the iambic pentameter I was expecting would be their the whole time, I think. Iambic pentameter was one of the things I remember my high school teacher from junior year telling me about, and it stood out as a cool writing technique, but also very stressful, I can never tell what syllable is supposed to be stressed.
I’d like to talk about John Talbot, I feel like he very suddenly appeared, all of a sudden got really emotional, spoke in rhyme, and then died. Who was he? Why did he die so suddenly? When will he get his own spin off prequel?
France is a very important part of this story about a King of England. More than half the story is set there. The France part was vastly more interesting, why did we need any of this story set in England.
The War of the Roses was important, in some way. At one point many of the Earl’s and noble fellows pick between the red and the white rose. There’s a line about picking a white rose but pricking their thumb and turning the rose blood red. It’s interesting, but I’m going to need more historical context in the future when I do a reread. Most of my knowledge for the War of the Roses is due to A Song of Ice and Fire using it for inspiration (No, I did not watch The Tudors so no, none of my knowledge comes from there).
There’s a scene in Act V, maybe it wasn’t supposed to be funny, but I found it funny. Where Earl of Suffolk and Lady Margaret are talking, and after every line the other says to them, they have, like, a snarky one liner they say in an aside to the audience.
If you don’t know what the aside is, anytime Fleabag said something directly to the camera or made eyecontact, that’s an aside. It’s a breaking of the forth wall to explain info to the audience. It happens a lot in these plays.
“Prehaps I need to be rescued by the French; And then I need not crave his courtesy.” Said by Margaret to the audience, line of the play for me. I too would love to be rescued from the British by the French.
The sequence of Joan of Arc (she’s not called “of Arc” but it’s what I know about her so I’m going to keep using it for convenience sakes) being potentially gaslite by Shepherd, where he claims to be her father. I don’t know if he actually is, I don’t think he is, because he told them to burn her because she refused to recognize him. I don’t know if that’s sexism or an admission that he lied, either way, really uncomfortable scene.
This is followed by Joan of Arc claiming to be pregnant and then going through multiple potential baby daddies. If there is a historical basis for this, I will take back my complaint, but this felt like an attempt to villainize someone else’s hero, not cool Shakespeare.
Now, nearing the end of the story, I need to mention the Earl of Suffolk, the only Earl that stood out. And it really only happened in the final Act. He goes to France to “woo” Margaret and then gets her to agree to come back to England to marry King Henry. At first, I thought he was just that cool of a guy. Put’s on the riz and gets the girl for his homie. Nope. He does give an impassioned speech to convince others to let the King marry for love, but it’s a trap! In the last line of the play, Suffolk is revealed to be a secret villain. He is the Littlefinger! Yes, that’s right, there are two sequels to this play, we are getting MCUed way back in 1591! Picture it:
The Earl of Suffolk will return in King Henry the Sixth Part II
