So homophobes are review bombing ep 3 of TLOU which, like, whatever that's just telling on yourself that you have nothing better to do with your life than being homophobic on the internet so I think it's not worth it even acknowledging them
But on the other side, I'm so fucking excited for them to learn Ellie is gay. I'm going to have a field day with it. They're going to lose their goddamn minds it's going to be so funny

I know this is going to be an unpopular opinion, but while I don't really think Pedro's a bad actor overall, so far I've been underwhelmed by HBO's version of Joel. They're trying so hard to play into the whole soft daddy aspect of Pedro's previous roles all because they want to make Joel more "likable". The way I knew this was going to happen when he was cast 🙄
so far it’s very interesting for me because there are some scenes where i’m like wow that was good others where i’m like. what was that.
i am enjoying the show, and i think pedro is doing pretty well but… i do agree? i’m trying to keep an open mind still but it’s like—
the crying last episode pissed me off a little. the joel in the game does not know how to identify a single emotion besides like, i dunno. protectiveness and rage?? i love that man but he is not emotionally intelligent. (the only man i love who i’d allow to be this way.)
by cutting out ALL the action i think they aren’t able to demonstrate how brutal joel can be. nothing about him in this show so far indicates to me that this man can single-handedly slaughter a whole hospital of fireflies like. it just doesn’t make sense
this version of joel is not only softer but he also can’t hold his own as well?? i like that they wanted to make him a middle aged man and not a tank and that comes with some limitations but ellie has probably saved him as many times as he’s saved her. my biggest complaint is that it seems like they’re companions because ellie doesn’t know how to travel west and has less experience. part of his considering himself a father comes with protecting her and getting protective of her. we literally don’t see that. i know they can’t have hella action scenes but i’d like at least a little bit of joel being brutal and a little unhinged bc that’s the whole point of his character—to show the lengths he’ll go to to protect her.
i’m not sure or not if the softness could be owed to pedro as a person in terms of casting, but i do agree they’ve taken away some of his gray morality. we keep hearing he killed people with tommy, killed innocents but nothing we see ever backs that up. part of what makes joel so compelling is that he’s objectively not really a good person, but he IS fundamentally human in a way that’s so relatable and logical that we forgive the literal atrocities lol
i started drafting this last week before the left behind episode but going into david next week, i think what’s going to make or break the joel thing for me is if he tortures those people trying to find where ellie is. without the torture scene i have no clue how the end will possibly make sense given what we know about him. and i really do think it’s more a thing of the script and the tv format (and only nine episodes!) not giving enough time to focus on everything much more than it is about the actors themselves (i think they’re doing pretty good, acting-wise—especially bella)
in some ways, i feel like the underwhelming feeling can some from the less drama. i get again why they can’t have too many fight scenes or whatever, but in some cases this really lowers the stakes and so it just feels less dramatic. even him getting rebar’d was so dramatic, and while i get that a normal person (not video game dads) can’t live through getting stabbed clean through, i feel like they could have still made him fall on something sharp but it’s much smaller and doesn’t go through his whole stomach? like i feel like there could have been some happy medium where it was realistic but also more dramatic and high stakes
i feel like i repeated myself a lot and i’m never good at drafting these things bc i just spit out words and don’t think about it but. i DO think it’s very enjoyable to watch, even if i think some things weren’t done quite as effectively. the way i’m thinking about it is that more than anything, this show is just a supplement to the game, as a little bonus feature. the game will still be there, as perfect and glorious as it always is.

Ok but I’m listening to The Last of Us podcast and the way Craig and Neil talk about Kathleen and how they wanted to humanize her and how they wanted her to be this character who wasn’t this radical leader at first but then her brother was beaten to death and NOW we see her as a villain but she wasn’t always that way and the entire time I’m just thinking of Ellie and tlou2 and oh my god I’m gonna cry

So with 3 episodes left til the seasons finished and we know next week, episode 7 is covering left behind, when does everyone think they'll fit the scene with Ellie's mum from the trailer in? I'm thinking maybe in the finale?

SPOILERS - THE LAST OF US 2
I'm so conflicted.
I've seen a let's play of the first game and now that I've seen the show and know spoilers about what happens in the second game...I really don't want to watch the second season.
I don't get very attached to fictional characters anymore and I don't usually over shows either. The last time I cried over any kind of media was over 4 years ago.
I know what happens to Joel in the second game and the show has made me care for him more than the game did, almost more than any other character (which is saying a lot) and I'm just scared that it'll destroy me when what happens eventually does happen.
I'm scared.
I don't want to feel that again.
Do I finally watch/play the second game and get it over with before the second season comes out? In the hopes of desensitising myself to when it happens in the show? Or do I leave it??
This probably sounds so over dramatic but when you've had attachment issues since you were a kid and only had fictional characters to care about through your entire childhood, this stuff is a big deal.
Hit just the right and very very specific heart strings and I break.
I'm sick of feeling sad, heartbroken, sick of being hurt. I dont want to feel these feelings anymore.

Episode 4
Back at it again!!
Whew! This episode had me in a choke hold, I definitely enjoyed it and am excited to hear what everyone thinks about a couple things I noticed. So here are my thoughts for tonight’s episode.
As always, spoilers for both the show and game (including a slight Part 2 spoiler) are below the cut!
Ellie looking at herself in the mirror reminds me of a spot in the second game where she stood in a bathroom with Joel in the background and made faces lol
Was I the only one on the verge of screaming “But is the safety on??” while she was handling a gun?? (I mean yeah, I get she has official FEDRA training but even a trained person can make a mistake)
I canNOT begin to express to you how happy I am that they FINALLY showed the pun book
(I’m trying to focus on the scene where Joel is siphoning gas but all I can think of is how good Pedro looks in those jeans)
THEY DID THE CUT SCENE THEY DID THE CUT SCENE THEY DID THE CUT SCENE
It’s my favorite cut scene from the first game, Ellie fucking with Joel about the magazine always cracked me up every time, and the fact that it looks almost EXACTLY like the one in the game?? The amount of detail in this series gives me such Chicken Soup for the Soul type feelings (points to those of you that get that reference)
Why am I cackling at seeing an Arby’s sign?
Joel lying to protect Ellie, I mean chances are he was actually telling the truth but even in a remote location such as that you can’t be too careful about keeping your guard up (and then he stayed up to keep them safe, Joel my beloved I adore your protectiveness but you need to sleep too babe) And also them mirroring the “Okay” from the game where Ellie/Sarah just accept that Joel has the situation taken care of
We finally get Joel’s coffee addiction on screen lol (and of course watching Pedro’s mouth at work is always a plus when it involves eating/drinking something)
Tommy being a “joiner” wasn’t really elaborated on in the game, so I’m glad they’re emphasizing that aspect of his personality (also the Desert Storm thing makes more sense now)
Joel calling Ellie “cargo”, acting like she’s just a promise he has to keep for Tess and nothing more, Joel you adorably grumpy cinnamon roll, you put your jacket on her to keep her warm while she slept, you made sure she was well fed, you want her to get some sleep because she needs it, who you trying to fool babe?
So they switched Pittsburgh for Kansas City
Joel why didn’t you grab your backpack????
I’m glad they changed it from Ellie killing the guy to just paralyzing him, I want that slow-fade instead of just making her a mini-assassin
So the group that took over the city is much larger than what we see in the game
I can’t tell if Pedro is just acting like Joel has a stiff back or if his actual back pain aided in his performance
Him checking on Ellie was just……omg this man has my heart all over again
Not her first time??? Okay I may need to make a post about this, but I’m pretty sure this has to do with her and [redacted]........(I’m making a separate post for this, it’s too much of a potential spoiler for the series)
Sam really loves Superman, or at least the version that HBO could get away with lol
Is the tendril network underneath the crater???? Why does it look like it’s breathing??? (Why am I getting the feeling that we’re going to see a bloater soon??)
I love that they included the sound trap tactic, I hope we get to see more of it
Joel still trying to console Ellie, I love him your honor
I wonder how much Pedro had to hold back to avoid laughing too much because you just know he had a hard time filming those pun book scenes because he had to be so serious about it lol
SAM AND HENRY SAM AND HENRY
They used the song “True Faith” from Part 2!!!! I adore that song!!
I was equal parts tickled beyond measure, and on the edge of my seat with this episode. Going from such a beautiful episode like “Long, Long Time” to THIS? I’ve got whiplash, but in a really good way lol. Can’t wait for next week!!
Endure and survive!!

I'm watching my brother play the last of us part 2 for the first time and it's honestly been so fun for me.
We just got to Abby's Seattle day 1 and he's so angry that he has to play as Abby. He doesn't know how long he has to play her and he's talking about speed running and how much he despises her, all the while exclaiming how she's a bad person for what she did but maintaining that Ellie is just doing what she has to. And its amazing because everything he's saying and feeling is EXACTLY what I said and felt and it's so funny to think how wildly my feelings about Abby changed over the next 10 hours of game play.
He has no idea what's coming for him and I can't wait.

I can’t claim this “The Last of Us” analysis, but I wanted to share it here because it’s a fascinating thought:
Bill in the game was a cautionary tale. He was a model for what Joel should avoid becoming, which was a closed-off, selfish loner who managed to push away the person he cared about the most.
Bill in the show is Joel’s inspiration/model. He is the one who puts into Joel’s head that he needs to stop being a closed-off, selfish loner and that he must do whatever it takes to save the person he cares about the most.
And what’s cool about this is that, even though both Bills are different, they both served the same purpose regarding Joel’s character.

#persona 3#persona 3 spoilers#minato arisato#makoto yuki#ryoji mochizuki#aigis#ryomina#lizzy does art#HELLO EVERYONE!!! march 5th is upon us again so i bring... my contribution for this year. my third year drawing for it!#i made the thumbnail for this a few weeks after last year's graduation day#i thought it would be fun to lean into the ryominaigis angle of graduation day (you could read this as minato/aigis if you like-#but i feel like most people would read it as ryoji/minato)#IN ANY CASE working on this made me very emotional over this game :') (specifically minato)#i really enjoy how p3 ends it's such a nice way of wrapping up the narrative's messages and themes#working on this. minato's kindness was at the forefront of my mind throughout the piece#and i really wanted to capture how. ultimately it was his decision to sacrifice himself- to do the great seal#while to an outsider's perspective it is. sad that minato passes. i think becoming the seal is something that minato-#actively welcomes. in the same way that death (ryoji) is a comfort to him because death was housed in him for Ten YearsTM#AND I ALSO GOT REALLY SAD OVER AIGIS TOO. i still get fucked up over how in fes's animated cutscene for 3/5 they portray-#her as human and not drawing the robot parts so i wanted to do something smilar here...#but also i am very sad on aigis's behalf because she discovers her humanity through minato and realizes what she-#wants to do and then. well. minato is like. he's ready to pass on (even if he's scared) and im like. OH MY GOD THIS TRIO GETS ME MESSED UP#this was more coherent in my head LOL BUT ough i like drawing p3 and working through my feelings about it...#anyway! happy (in quotations) march 5th. i love this game to bits. it's so fun to draw for this day every year and see how i've improved#if you've read all this thank you :) lizzy appreciates you all very much. mwah! <3

ummmmm the show having joel let ellie choose him instead of just silently deciding to take her with him like he does in the game. and then ellie’s interjection “let’s go.” ??? yeah goodbye i’m walking into the sea. the proceeding teaching her how to hunt scenes and horse riding conversations where they’re so open and chatty and leaning in to each other. literally. they finally accept that “i care about you and you care about me.” they’re aware and ready to cultivate their bond as a parent and child unit. they’ve committed to the bit. and they are IMMEDIATELY punished for it. their worst fears are suddenly coming true—ellie is losing someone she loves and joel has failed to protect her. yeah no i’m not making it out of this series intact.
