Interest in a dedicated feminist online forum community?
What are women's thoughts here on an online feminist community, a forum (like phpBB for example), for discussions? Would enough women would be interested in this? Forum software has decreased in popularity, but is still used for niche subjects/communities. (Some real life examples: https://www.reef2reef.com/ and https://www.gardenstew.com/) I'm mildly interested in trying to set up forum software as a technical learning experience, but only if there would actually be interest in using it (because it would cost me money to buy a domain name and web hosting).
It seems like there are so little dedicated spaces for feminist women on the internet. Most feminist communities seem to be libfem, and/or plainly taken over by men (if they purport TWAW, then they definitely are taken over by men). Tumblr has a radfem community, but it's still part of a larger social media system which involves many TRAs (some of which harass radfems), and men, porn bots, etc. Ovarit is useful for consciousness raising, but it seems to me like the Overton window has been shifting towards more conservative takes than feminist ones, especially in how there appears to be more anti-trans takes on there than actual gender critical feminist ones, which kind of makes me bored of it. And so again, radfems are then stuck in a larger community, this one of conservative/non-feminist women, who are there because they dislike trans people and appear to have found a space where they can safely make fun of them and not actually to discuss gender critical content (the recent realization that I even need to be defending common feminist stances like women's right to abortion on Ovarit has been demoralizing). I basically want to make a place where feminist women can just take a break and not have to constantly be building up from ground zero, defending against TRA insults, arguing against conservative/right-wing rhetoric, and instead maybe discussing feminist topics or just chilling in some hobby forum sections or something, idk.
I was initially going to call it a "radfem community" but I see no reason for the community to not include women who identify more with other branches of feminism like gender critical feminism, black feminism, lesbian feminism, eco feminism, socialist feminism, intersectional feminism (I mean the original definition of intersectional, not "tumblrized intersectionality"), etc.
I think there would need to be some "gatekeeping" involved so that it doesn't end up filling up with neoliberal feminists ["choice feminism"] or "prolife feminists" [an oxymoron], so that would need to be figured out. This community would not be meant to be a place for feminists to have to hand-hold people and slowly explain over and over how gender is sexist, or how porn is misogyny, or how abortion is a part of women's healthcare and bodily autonomy. This place would be meant to be a solace from that. Imagine trying to participate in a Calculus class where people who haven't even taken algebra are constantly joining the class and asking "why the fuck are there letters with numbers in math now?!" The class would barely, if at all, progress. Likewise, this community would be for feminist women to have an agreed upon basis for basic feminist stances, and move forward with deeper analysis. There are plenty of other online communities for women who are new to (non-lib)feminism to learn about how "but I like wearing makeup, it's art" isn't a feminist stance. We don't need to keep spending finite energy hashing this out, we need to be able to move forward.
My basic thoughts so far:
It would be women-only. (But there would be no vetting that would involve requiring to share personal information, it would just be an honor system.)
I think there must be some basic feminist stances that members need to agree on, otherwise the community might as well just be a part of any mainstream social media platform. I would assume a decent starting point would be: gender critical, pro-choice, anti-prostitution, anti-pornography, anti-surrogacy, anti-beauty culture?
Some category ideas I have so far: feminism (with maybe different sections for the branches of feminism, and sections for discussing feminist books/websites/documentaries); politics (with sections for discussing or sharing news about feminist political topics like reproductive rights [for abortion, birth control, bodily autonomy], gender critical, surrogacy, prostitution, etc.; spirituality (for those who are into Wicca, or other spiritual beliefs); casual (for general chat, hobbies, music, arts, etc.)
So yeah, what are women's thoughts on here about this?
Would this type of community interest you?
What would you want to see in it?
What would you not want to see in it?
Has this been done before and I am just oblivious? (I tried searching for "feminist forum," but nothing relevant seem to come up.)
Am I naive and this is not going to work?
Please let me know! I welcome any opinions. Thank you. 💜

your blog is so fun bc you take dynamics people usually interpret very parentlike and make them cool ships. like with gertrude and with trevor. its awesome even when im not inclined to ship it myself. need more of that in this cruel cold world <- is abnormal about age gaps
thanks! i just don't see anything parental about gertrude's relationship to ANYONE, especiallly not her underlings, or about trevor's relationship to julia. and i think in a fandom that is really into the tumblrized concept of Found Family as perfectly emulating a nuclear cishet structure, they will literally slap a "parental" label onto ANY relationship where one character is older and/or has authority over the other. there are plenty of dynamics in fiction where someone takes a younger character under their wing as a parental fogure, i just don't see them in TMA no matter how much people feel the need to impose them 🤷

Frosty Ruins Where Is Anne Frank
I have to admit going into this one I have my biases against it. First of all it was made in 2022 and nothing produced in the last 5-6 years has been good. Also because it's about nazis and jewish people I can't imagine it's going to be a faithful or accurate movie in the slightest because nobody in hollywood understands even the first thing about what a nazi is. Other than that I'm going into this movie totally blind, never heard of it before, never saw a trailer and am not even aware of the premise beyond the title.
The movie opens with text on a black screen and starts with a typo saying "the diary is one of the famous books ever written" I think you might be missing a word or two there pal. This is the opening sequence...you didn't bother to proof read the first ten seconds of your movie? It's two sentences and you fucked it up.
I don't know who made this but the art style is like if studio ghibli was tumblrized. It's like a weird combo of cheap netflix cartoon character designs but done in the style of an expensive japanese anime. It looks weird and I don't like it but it's not as cancerous to look at, the art itself is not off putting enough to discard it based on look alone.
What is off putting is the premise, the imaginary girl that Anne Frank is writing to comes to life and goes looking for Anne. The words of the diary magically swirl into life...there's just something that feels off ethically with this one. Like that it's exploitive in some way but I can't quite put my finger on it yet.
Our first look at the nazis is as I feared...absurd. The nazis march down the street in all black cloaks like they're the fucking nazgul, and they don't look human, their eyes are totally black and their faces are ghostly  white and expressionless. It's actually a perfect representation of what demonizing something is. Now I'm not saying they weren't bad guys...but they were human. That should be the primary lesson people take away from nazi Germany...the horrors and retarded nonsense that thinking people were convinced to do. That's the horror of the story of the holocaust, that people who were once friends and neighbours are now hunting each other like animals, stripping them of their basic rights and dignity and doing so in the full belief that they were doing the right thing. When you turn a nazi into this snarling inhuman demon you unlearn that lesson.
Now I've never read Anne Franks diary but I am aware of the backstory and that there are multiple versions. There are multiple versions because when they realized they would be submitting the diary for publication there were a number of things Anne had written that the father edited it out because it made them look bad. The movie claims that never happened but they say a lot of stuff that's lies. Remember this is a child stuck in a room with people in a terrible situation so not everything she wrote would have been very nice, I understand there was some nasty things said about some of the people they were hiding with or something like that. And maybe that's what bothers me about the movie, it's not reality...it's taking a traumatic experience a child had...cleaning it up to fit a narrative and packaging it for entertainment purposes.
There's also a point in her description of the persecution of the jews that annoyed me, she claims the reason they were targetted was because societies always find a minority group to blame. But that's not what happened and again this is another major history lesson we should all have taken from nazi germany that everybody has forgotten. It wasn't because they were a minority, nobody just says I'm going to hate this minority group for no reason Germany was a society built on minority groups, there were many different minority groups. The reason they chose the jews and the reason many societies have always chosen the jews...and the reason they so effectively villified the jews was because they were seen as a privileged class of people. Because so many of the societies doctors, lawyers, bankers, were jewish. Jews are an insular community that looks out for each, because of their strong sense of family nationality and faith coupled with a desire to do well and to train their kids to do well, they tend to be overrepresented in many powerful and profitable industries. This was why they were targetted, this is why they were scapegoated...it's the same rhetoric that goes into any generic 1%er or eat the rich diatribe. It was the socialist part of national socialism, only the capitalists hoarding all the wealth were jews rather than just "the rich"
The reason this rationale is forgotten about, glossed over and rebranded is because it describes the behaviour and worldview of modern progressive politics perfectly. They ignore that part of it because they themselves are guilty of it. Hitlers speeches and writings about the jews were rewritten to be about white people or about men and have been published in progressive university journals. So they have to pretend it's just because they were minorities because to understand the reality would mean cognitive dissonance.
All that aside the movie also has this boring artsy movie vibe to it I'm not interested in. I don't need to sit here and watch a little girl play cats cradle in a police station while a soft mandolin plays in the background, or listen to melancholic indie vocals over images of an imaginary girl ice skating before dissolving into inky wisps.
There's also a fairly blasphemous part I don't think a lot of jews or any religious people would appreciate where they both imply that God's existence is ridiculous while also implying that Anne Frank is like God because she's everywhere...because a lot of things are named after her. There's a lot of moments like that which scream "non practicing jew." They really go out of their way to literally deify her and at one point call her diary a sacred object.
The whole premise of the movie is bizarre and it only gets more bizarre. The idea is you see flashbacks to Anne Franks life and they are mixed in with parts of the movie that take place in the modern world...where this imaginary friend is looking for her long gone friend. The movie is incomprehensible because parts of it play like a fever dream and the rest of it is people behaving strangely and saying things that are so out of left field and are not believable.
The most disgusting part of the movie is the ending, where they use the emotional manipulation of the holocaust stories and try to tie it to other political agendas that have nothing to do with the holocaust. At the end she threatens to burn Annes diary if the country doesn't let in all the refugees and let them all stay for as long as they want. The movie is just one long attempt to use jewish people as props to advance a political agenda and the whole movie reeks of it. I hated this movie a lot but I feel like I'd have a much more visceral hatred of it if I was jewish.
The movie ends with this white text that makes the completely baseless assertion that antisemitism, violent racism and persecution of minorities is on the rise.
boring, ugly, tragedy porn, incomprehensible propaganda.

(she is not staying on my shelf rn. lol) i love my girlie i cannot wait to put her and her identical triplet sisters in little outfits!!! what i dont love is this stand though. i am a saddle stand hater and while this one does feel very secure and sturdy for a saddle stand (esp comparing my other 2 barbie saddle stands. they are made of solo cups compared to this thing) it still makes me nervous. and i regret putting it together bc IT WILL NOT SEPARATE.
the last 3 pics are just me comparing the repro/silkstone face to vintage barbie. now GRANTED this is a fashion queen head so its not a true 1:1 comparison but this was more me confirming my suspicions from online photos. anyway. they kind of de tumblrized her LMAOOO no but they did slim her cheeks (esp in the bottom) and i think made her nose dent less extreme in the new version of the face but i forgot to look when i had my doll out. i think there might be a difference in face height too (shortr on vintage) but its hard for me to tell due to the different styles of face paint and fashion queen's molded hair. i like them both and for the bfmc dolls especially where they are vintage barbie INSPIRED i think it makes sense to take some of that extreme 50s/60s peanut head roundness out of the facemold. <- not a derogatory statement btw i happen to really enjoy that profile on vintage dolls.

w*nd*g**n is actually native though. he is cherokee through his grandfather and has spoken about their oral history.
Link and quote of what Magz have say before back when better explain / not have language issue, to similar anon (here)
quote:
"I called him white because one of the videos I saw by him he called himself white, so I called him by what he referred to himself as. The subject of native heritage is complicated and a whole can of worms. And he very much aligns himself with fascist and colonialist politics, which kind of is ironic considering that taboo spirit is a warning against that and greed. But don’t summon the winter hunger towards me like that, I’m avoiding drawing it’s attention and censoring it’s direct names for a reason. (edit: there are also white natives, who still id with white, and blood quantum is a weird thing to be using in this context. assuming that what an anon is telling me is the case. since I can’t find some of his old videos anymore and idk where to search for that)"
quote 2:
"I just realized the implication being made here, but I am not accusing him of the tumblrized version of cultural appropriation. Which is a skewed version of a term that actually has meaning. I was saying he is using the appropriated, as in decontextualized culturally, version of that spirit. Which is the one depicted with the animal skull and is a ~quirky cryptid~. Which would still be factually true even with that new information? He is using the version with the animals skull from popular media, which is decontextualized from the closed-off religion. That is spread outside of that culture’s contexts. The one that has overrun the current understanding that outsider’s have of the taboo spirit and it’s purpose and dangers within the culture. That he is selling to said outsiders and perpetuating that version of for profit. That phenomenon. What can be argued here if it is a fair *moral* judgement to find inappropriate if he does identify as part of any of the Algonquian native peoples, but not whether it is cultural appropriation by the actual term’s definition and the consequences of that phenomenon. I will be hands-off on that aspect as I am not Plains Native specifically. edit: It should at least tell you something that him naming himself that has made it even harder for natives that ARE wary of the winter hunger to be able to avoid it. While getting the receipts on that post, I saw other natives say they can’t even watch his videos because of that name being dangerous for them and people putting him on their social media timeline was not helping. Not that every native is wary like that, but think about it."

Thoughts On “Born With Teeth” (Shakespeare/Marlowe Elizabethan Stage Fanfic)
So the more I learn about this play, a fictionalized take on William Shakespeare’s and Christopher Marlowe’s collaboration of Henry VI, the more I’m both intrigued and wondering if this is the consequence of too much wealth and peace, that outward breaks, and knows not why a perfectly good premise should be so…Tumblrized. Spoilers, of course.
Tumblr media
The Migratory Slash fandom met Everything Is Political Edgelord(tm) and this is the result of their very messy hookup.
Tumblr media
And yet when Henry VI was printed in the First Folio, it was wholly credited to Shakespeare. Not Marlowe.
I suppose Heminges and Condell took the attitude that since Marlowe was long dead, it was no longer necessary to credit him. But that does not explain why, if Marlowe were the primary writer or even one of them, the play or trilogy as a whole was not credited to him when it first came out. At the time, he was much more successful, with Shakespeare being a relatively newbie actor and play poet.
Perhaps Henry VI was a group project, but led or overseen by Shakespeare, with Marlowe, Nashe, and possibly Greene following his outline. This play, though, follows the new assertion of an equal Shakespeare-Marlowe collaboration. Fine, I guess, but I would have killed to have Nashe and especially Greene cameo.
Tumblr media
Of course, because we just can’t have one Shakespeare-related work that doesn’t explore the dullest question posed ever in the mysterious Life: Was Shakespeare a Catholic????
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tag yourself, I’m “puppy dog but also wary of his collaborator’s reckless ways.”
Tumblr media
*gretchen voice* Stop trying to make Shakespeare/Marlowe happen, they are never going to happen
No, but seriously, it would kill all the delicious tension and drama between these two! The envy on both sides, the frustration, and inadequacy…the camaraderie of their shared background, the constant comparison, the deep-rooted insecurity…it’s so fascinating. All that would be gone if you just make them hook up.
It’s not about plausibility or probability. Marlowe was by all accounts gay asf and Shakespeare is as riddling as ever. It’s about drama. Sex, simply put, releases tension. And if you’re trying to build a love story between the two, then you come across the problem of both too-similar backgrounds and too-dissimilar personalities. It’d be Romeo/Mercutio all over again.
For my part, Will already has dramatic tension enough with Anne (whatever tf was happening on that corner) and I think it’s a little bit too early to introduce either a Dark Lady and/or a Fair Youth love interest. But that is still way preferable than having Marlowe be the love interest.
Tumblr media
Tfw you’re flirting with your crush and he threatens go expose your family as secret Catholics 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 Just OTP things
(But wait a tick tock, Marlowe betrayed Thomas Kyd????? Nah, man, this is libel. Kit, baby, I’m sorry.)

okay I watched the Bottoms movie and it was fun. I actually thought they did a good job of showing that feeling of when men belittle feminism, and trivialize or make fun of it. (the guy holding the girls' head during the fight so she can't punch him because her arms were too short. the male teacher being sarcastic about how women must have had it soooo hard cause they didnt keep their last names.)
anyway what did people think about the bit where one of the women says "I thought this was about sisterhood, but turns out it was only for your own selfish interests. It's the second wave all over again".
Because I think what they were referencing was this libfem/tumblrized-interesectionality idea that the 2nd wave was all straight white women who only cared about their own interests- but the character saying it is a straight woman saying the lesbians only cared about the women's group because they wanted to get dates. So it's taking some criticism about exclusion/lesbophobia from straight women, and reversing it to use against lesbians and calling them selfish?
Maybe I interpreted that line completely wrong though. I'd like to know what people think if you saw the movie

Hello, it’s been awhile since I’ve been on tumblr and when I got back on, I was surprised that tarch is no longer here? Why is their blog gone? I hope they are ok. Sorry for the bother, I hope your day is going well. 💜
Hey there! Welcome back to tumblr. XD
I never know why people's blogs go defunct. I admit I don't like discussing possibilities why - especially not with specific names. It feels like some people start to treat it rumor-y-y, or some people get drama-y. I just let de-tumblrized friends be good memories. ^.^
I do miss folks like tarch, but that's okay. I think lots of people delete blogs because they're not going to use them anymore, and are in a better, more flourishing spot in life - where they'll be paying attention to other things than social media. Or they've just moved onto other social media. I see it as a hopeful possibility and wish everyone the best with their next life stage forward.

:) 19: a character you really hate -this is so hard because i feel like a lot of characters i hate i also really love because of how those hateable qualities make them fit into the narrative. like i do like loomis and how he fits into the halloween series even if i would beat this elderly man with a brick if given the opportunity. u know. and theres a few others that i dislike in their Tumblrized Fandom forms, but in the actual films i do find them effective characters. leslie vernon is probably one. i think he couldve been alright in a better constructed film, but he's almost intolerable to me as is and i get irrationally annoyed seeing ppl hype him and his movie up 23: a movie that you would not rewatch for whatever reason(s) -ALSO very hard because i feel like i am very willing to rewatch just about anything. skimming through my lowest rated horror films on letterboxd, i think id honestly rewatch just about all of these with only mild complaint, no matter how abysmal/boring/painful to watch i think they are.. i can always find Some reason to justify it- thinking about why the film doesnt work for me, comparing it to others that do the same concepts better. if i have to pick one it'd probably be something like gutterballs, lesbian vampire killers, halloweed- mediocre edgy 00s/10s horror/comedy with very little going for it if you dont think shit like homophobia or rape jokes are funny. but then, i saw stan helsing twice in the same day and would probably see it a third time if given a sufficient reason. so idk if i can say i WOULDNT rewatch gutterballs.. 25: a movie that genuinely scared you -AUGH.
again, difficult. very limited selection of horror movies that even make my skin crawl a little bit. the most recent one was skinamarink (2022), though i have absolutely no idea if i would feel the same if i rewatched it- its an 1hr40min experimental art horror film thats like... if you watch the trailer on youtube you get a good idea of what its like for the Whole runtime, nearly all the dialogue is hushed children's whispers, most of the shots are long takes of dark hallways and television screens, the film is so grainy that it looks like its alive and crawling... reminded me of the totheark marble hornets videos and similar experimental horror shorts on youtube from My Youth; feels like it'll do numbers with the ""analog horror"" side of the internet, if it hasnt already. all of which is very effective If you manage to get engrossed in the film, but i absolutely cannot blame anyone who thinks its just boring and not worth the time to watch. it really demands your full attention with very little concrete payoff, just a lot of slow building dread with the occasional scare that often didnt live up to the hype that it had built up. every time my attention started to wander even a little bit, it was like all the magic had leaked out of it, until i forced myself to focus and it started to captivate me again. id worry that on rewatch it might not click at all for me and id think my past self was a loser for thinking this was good. still gave it 4.5 stars on letterboxd despite this. ymmv.

Quickly. Gotta draw a tumblrized version of Blitz. <- And then I did.
-Boring hair with no texture or substance. (Because tumblr always seems unwilling to draw actually messy hair even when they try.)
-More appealing nose. Eyes that are the same shape and unaffected by the wound he has. (Because tumblr is allergic to unusual features no matter how much they claim not to be.)
-Dark skin that is warm toned and saturated. (Because tumblr loves to blackwash characters and also constantly harp on how you gotta have warm toned dark skin or else you're doing it wrong and you're racist.)
-Brown eyes instead of blue. (Because I have noticed a very large uptick in people hating on giving characters blue eyes.)
-Revealing outfit without layers. (Ok maybe I shouldn't have done it like this. I should've given him something very fashionable and also not at all accurate to his style. Although this does fit that just in a lazy way. Which tumblr is guilty of. Eh.)
-VERY fem body. (Small waist, wide hips. C'mon he is a transman you gotta make it OBVIOUS that he is female or else he'll just look like an icky gross cis man and we can't have that we gotta make sure he is a feminine as we can so that everyone know he's a trans!!!!)
-And most importantly!! Extremely unnecessary pride pins that don't go with the design at all and are very obvious and tacky we gotta make sure everyone knows this character is a QUEER!! (Even though Blitz is BISEXUAL I gave him a pan pin because tumblr ffucking hates bisexuals and loves to claim them as pan instead.)
Anyway this is an abomination and is not at all Blitz. But that is the point because tumblr loves to change how characters look to be more in line with what tumblr likes.

So I went over at KnowYourMeme, great site. Good resource.
I was looking at two articles specifically because it just entered my head recently.
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/original-vs-un-tumblrized
and
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/western-artists-be-like-i-fixed-it
These are quite juicy and a little toxic, too toxic and I am quite infuriated to be honest.
But as I always remind myself, cope, seethe and recover. I just don't get a lot of concepts and ideas unless it's spoonfed to me or I have experienced it.
Enough of that, I'll start.
I have taken screenshots of comments from the articles I've linked above. What I'd like to do is to post them and give my opinions of them here.
Tumblr media
Wow! Wow!!! Really? Redneck waifus? Way to be fucking racist, these fucks are what's wrong with this world. I just wish they see things the way I do. Be neutral on the matter.
I will be very uncomfortable with the art, if it does come out. These fucks would see it as fine but I am quite woke enough to know that that's not what it entails. That's not how it goes. They're making that art to be racist and that's fact. We've seen it with Chuck Dixon and VoxDay. People like RevSaysDesu, The Critical Drinker and Shadiversity would say positives about it. Fucking hell, Jesus bleeding Christ.
Although, I must admit I would like to see more Wendy's mascot fanart or more redheads with tanktops. Very spicy 🔥🥵.
I too would like to see how the SJWs would seethe at the existence of the art, and I'd like to see how many takes there are braindead or really interesting to consider.
Okay, that's me. Next comment.
Tumblr media
Okay, when I first read this comment I thought that this is just one of the things that the racist, homophobic, fatphobic fucks over at KnowYourMeme.
However, after rereading the entire thing, I can see the point of the person. It is most heinous to claim that one's own interpretation of how the world is to them is faulty and presenting a "corrected" version is very rude.
Although, if one has not checked how they see the world and perhaps if it's not really realistic then maybe it's time to discuss certain topics like how the Japanese portray their women, particularly shonen. I am never in favor of coercion. Coercion includes going on Twitter or going out of one's way to get the attention of the publishers or the authors to make demands or screech like there is no tomorrow. That is wrong and is not very helpful in the longrun.
Tumblr media
Anufenrir. Very fucking based. These people are just seething. Apparently, not taking a stand or looking at things from a different perspective inspires ire.
