#I think my very desperate need for my sisters to find me cool is SO transparent and close to the surface when I'm with them

got dinner with the sisters tonight and I had the oh fuck, you're an adult realization about the youngest one.
#it's so wild how being around them brings up so many of my old wounds from childhood (self-inflicted)#that are so clearly just baked into my being at this point#—how I feel really lame in comparison to them#how I find them so keenly social and blossoming in ways I never really felt I could achieve—#but the middle one is adjusting so so well to living alone and coming into her own as an adult in a huge city. it's really awesome to see.#she suffered from middle child syndrome a bit but it made her strong in ways me and the youngest aren't#I think my very desperate need for my sisters to find me cool is SO transparent and close to the surface when I'm with them#and that I fundamentally think they are much cooler and more worldly and experienced than me also feels very close to the surface lol#(those are The Old Wounds ahahaa)#idk I'm not sure I'll ever NOT feel this way. even if I'm the only child who moved out of our state;#even if I've been living alone for many years and they're just freshly out of home#I think it's one of those things that will always be with me because of [mumbles] several influential factors in growing up#and the sort of ... awe and jealousy I've always felt towards them because of how the birth order worked out#with the gap between me and them larger than the gap between the two of them and how our schooling choices broke down#anyways this is maybe the primal wound that has made me so fucking weird/intense about every friendship I've ever had since#I love them more than anyone in the world; I want them to be as impressed by me as I am impressed by them;#I find myself ultimately unimpressive in comparison and that childhood thought will stay with me for -- perhaps -- life#anyways I love them so much and it was awesome spending most of the day with the middle one and getting to make conversation with her.#she is so cool

you were currently sat on the couch with a cup of cheap beer in your hand, waiting on your friend to return from wherever she’d gone. she was your ride after all.
“dude, shes smokin’ hot,” you heard a boy say from your right. you then saw him point to a girl across the room. he was standing with a green beer bottle in hand while talking to another guy sat right next to you.
the boy next to you was very pretty. he also looked very troubled.
“are you okay?” you drunkenly asked, trying to provide him some sort of comfort.
his blank expression immediately morphed into one your couldn’t quite make out when he looked towards you. “what?”
you had thought it was a pretty straightforward question. “are you okay?” you repeated a little louder this time incase he couldn’t hear over the music.
he looked almost confused. “yes? why do you ask?”
you opted for a simple shrug before you took another sip of your drink. “you look upset,” you replied. “jus’ wanted to see if you were alright.” then you held out a hand in front of you. “y/n.”
he hesitantly took it. “rafe.”
“cool name,” you slurred out. once your hands were freed from one another, you leaned over and rested your head on his shoulder and cuddled into his side in desperate need of a nap.
you closed your eyes and allowed yourself to slowly find sleep.
rafe hadn’t even noticed, still engaged in a conversation with topper and kelce. but when he did, he couldn’t help but feel the urge to protect you in your vulnerable state. he gently grabbed the cup from your hand and placed it on the table along with his own. “i think ‘m gonna get going,” he alerted the other two.
“so soon?” kelce asked. “it’s just getting started.”
topper chuckled and hit the boys chest. “you gonna take her to your place or somethin’?”
“what else am i supposed to do? leave her here?” he asked with a quirked brow.
the blonde smirked. “i’m sure any other guy here would gladly take her home.”
“you’re disgusting, top,” kelce grimaced.
rafe simply rolled his eyes, not wanting to engage in a conversation with the idiot he called his best friend. he slowly stood up while making sure you wouldn’t fall over. once he was up on his feet, he lightly tapped your shoulder. “hey.”
you grumbled and stirred slightly. “what?”
“c’mon. ‘m gonna take you to my place, okay? i need you to follow me though,” he said softly, grabbing your hands and gently pulling you up on your feet. you drunkenly stumbled into his chest before finally gaining balance. “ready?” he asked as he snaked a hand around your waist for stability.
you nodded and leaned into him a little closer as you walked towards his car. once you arrived without falling over, he opened the passenger door and helped you get in and buckle up before shutting it and doing the same for himself.
fortunately, the ride to the cameron residence was short.
and to make things even better, his parents weren’t home. nor were his sisters.
with his assistance, you two had successfully made it up the stairs and into his bedroom.
“here,” he said, handing her an unopened bottle of water on his bedside table he’d placed there before he left earlier in the day. “take a seat and drink it.”
you groaned, closing your eyes as you sat down. “i don’t like water.”
his brow raised in confusion. “you don’t like water?”
you immediately shook your head slowly to avoid worsening your headache. “no. too bland.”
he couldn’t help but chuckle. “well, i need you to drink a little bit then you can head to bed.” he began to rummage through his drawers before dropping something onto the mattress next to her. “here. change into these. if you need anything, i’m gonna go get some ibuprofen from the kitchen.”
you nodded lazily and waited until he closed the door behind himself to change into the clothes.
when he returned, he knocked softly and asked a soft, “can i come in?” when he got no answer, he slowly opened the door to find you knocked out already. you were dressed in his hoodie and sweats that absolutely swallowed you. he glanced over at the water bottle as he headed to the closet, noticing you’d taken a few sips. he pulled out a soft blanket from inside and draped it over you in hopes of making you as comfortable as possible.
the thought of you not being here with him right now and having someone else take you home to do only god knows what to you was making his blood boil. it didn’t matter though. after all, you were here with him.
he grabbed out another blanket from the college and a pillow, making his bed for the night on the floor. if this were anyone else he was sleeping on the ground for, he’d be pissed. but knowing you were here and protected by him somehow just made him feel a whole lot better.

fic rec friday 58
hello and welcome to fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.
The Value of a Moment by @a-fools-errand
When Lance’s previously obsolete skills in language suddenly become very useful, he finds himself wondering why aliens can’t account for the fact that humans, particularly him, need sleep and would prefer linear timelines. (Or: an Arrival AU because I love that movie)
yall OBSESSED does not begin to cover it. i have never read a fic where lance was so goddamn cool. and in like. the insanest of ways?? like of course lance is a polyglot but THIS....this is a whole new level. i havent even finished it fully yet but like god this thing is so fucking cool. if ur looking for a longfic stop looking
2. Rest Stop by @flaming-potato-arsonarson
Lance wasn't like the rest of the world. And he had never had a loving mother tell him it made him stronger for it. So he told himself, gathering up his courage and grit to face a world of winged humanity, when he, in fact, has no wings and turns into a mermaid instead. A world that wants him to die. So he'd keep this secret like a knife in his boot, a sharp weapon until he died on his own terms. Not because of who he was. Except, Team Voltron isn't so sure why Lance is all rough edges and sharp points about showing off his wings. Or acting like a member of the Flock in general. It's clear he cares for them, but he's never shown an intimate part of him. Until he has to.
oh god this has gotta be one of my CLASSIC fics. read it a few dozen times. i read it right when it came out, six ish years ago (goddamn), i can remember curling up in my old bunk bad and eating this up as the hours ticked by. i was HOOKED. my jaw was dropped my eyes were glued. could not get enough. if youre looking for mermaid lance with a twist....brother this is it
3. Looking for Rain by @thewriter2
Like most things, it starts with the little things: his smile, his confidence, his talent. Eventually, all these little things add up to one big thing that threatens to crash over them like a heavy rain. But, maybe that wouldn't be a bad thing. Maybe something beautiful would come from it. A 5+1 (really a 10+1) of Lance and Keith falling in love.
oh god guys..... @thewriter2 knows how to fucking haunt you. if a 10+1 (!!) isnt enough for you, i want you to know this line has been echoing in my head since i first read: "He looks at you like you’re a storm and he’s a desert desperate to drown." UM??? EXCUSE ME???? SIMILE OF ALL TIME ACTUALLY???? keith being so so visibly obviously in love with lance is my actual roman empire shit never leaves my mind
4. Astronauts by @thewriter2
When they entered the Blue Lion, Keith was Lance’s rival--the person Lance was working so hard to surpass. But slowly, Lance found himself thinking of Keith less as a rival and more as something close to a friend. So of course, Lance’s traitor of a heart decided that it would be Lance’s kind of friend that it would fall in love with.
tags to sell you: "keith is a dork but lance loves him anyway" (dorky keith my beloved), "hunk is an a+ friend" (yes he is), "lance is a lovesick fool" (yeah), and "allura is older sister goals" yes yes YES you get it. and like....while keith pov is my favourite to write by far, lances pov as he realises he is in love....that will always hold such a special special place in my heart
5. his own worth by frogsterz
In the middle of the conversation, Lance stops talking and no one notices. It’s not like he had been leading the conversation, for he hadn’t been, but somehow the fact that his lack of input or opinion isn’t noticed tightens the grip loneliness has on his heart. He looks down at his food, his face burning, his throat tightening up.
now usually anything but team as family isnt my deal. im not big on classic langst. but keith as a knight in shining armour.....what can i say i am weak willed. deeply. also " It’s what made it worse. I miss home and I miss being held and the rain, and I loved you. I thought you hated me." got me so bad got me WEAK like i have never recovered from that line and i doubt i ever will
that’s it for today!! i’ll see y’all back next friday for the next fic rec post!!!

Tease Tidbit Tuesday
Tagged by the super fantabulous @bekkachaos (dropped a whole fic, check it out!) @jamespearce9-1-1 @thewolvesof1998 @giddyupbuck @eddiebabygirldiaz @hippolotamus @daffi-990 @jesuisici33 and @disasterbuckdiaz. Thank you all so much and I am so very excited for your works!
Feeling a lot better today and I'm in still in a good NFL Buck mood. So here is a little snippet from the Dosed arc, featuring for the first time Buck's perspective. (Everything NFL Buck can be found here.)
After many different un-needed apologies from Eddie about the pollen and several assurances from Buck that Eddie is safe from the tiny ladies made of said pollen, the dosed firefighter finally passes out. Poor man is still in his uniform and is going to have one hell of a hangover when he wakes up. Or at least according to the article Buck speed read after Sergeant Grant stated his boyfriend and the majority of the 118 had been dosed with a hallucinogen. Most likely LSD. Buck lets out a groan of both frustration and weariness. He had just gotten home from the days workout with the team and was getting ready for his cool down when the gates intercom went off. Thinking it was another wayward delivery person who had yet again ignored instructions to leave all packages in the lock box, Buck was taken by complete surprise to see LAPD on the video. And hearing Eddie's desperate cries in the background, threw him for a major loop. Eddie is taken care of for the moment and quick texts to Carla and his sister, insured Christopher would be away until tomorrow afternoon, giving his father time to recover. The last issue at hand, is waiting patiently in Buck's living room. Rolling his shoulders, Buck steps through the arch way, doing his best to ignore the niggle of fear in his gut and to just put on the mask of Evan Buckley, charismatic and cool NFL quarterback. "Seeing that you are alone and a little more at ease, I assume firefighter Diaz is finally settled?" The Sergeant asks sounding truly concerned, but Buck can also see a glint of scrutiny and the mask of charm falters. "Um, yea." Buck answers trying and failing to meet her sharp gaze, feeling as if she could see every little secret he was holding. "Thank you, again for bringing him home and keeping him safe." Ms. Grant shrugs, "Its the job and he's fellow first responder. Plus my husband is becoming quite fond of Diaz, even without knowing him all that well." She catches Buck's wondering eye at that and it freezes him on the spot. "Have to say, finding out Evan Buckley, the LA Ram's shiny new star and hottest NFL bachelor is secretly dating a single father and firefighter from Texas, is the most surprising thing that's happened to me so far this year. And I allowed a delinquent kid out of my custody, to hot wire a concrete mixer to save a man trapped in his burning car." The entirety of the Evan Buckley facade shatters and Buck has to swallow every shard of dread. Shit.
Like Buck could fool Athena. Psssh. Hope you all enjoyed!
PSA: School has officially started for me this week and as I am in a 9 month fast track program, most of my focus will be on my school work, so my writing is going to slow down. But I will find the time.

I love your last Elain x Reader so much! Would you consider writing again for her? Maybe a bit of angst but with a happy ending?
Avoiding Me?
Elain x reader
A/n: thank you anon! I really like writing for Elain, it was nice to dive into her again
Warnings: none
Elain was starting to get nervous. You had seemed to be avoiding her for the past few days and it was starting to get to her. At first she thought you were busy but she knew you were never this busy. She has asked Feyre if she noticed anything different about your behavior and she said no. Elain didn’t totally believe her little sister though.
Today was Elain’s breaking point. She was usually patient when it came to people. She liked to act rationally and with a cool head. Rushing into a situation or jumping to conclusions never helped anyone. You were new territory though and she didn’t want to mess anything up with you, but she’s didn’t want to lose you either.
Knocking on Nesta’s door incessantly, Elain had decided to go to her older sister for relationship advice. This was probably a bad idea given how her and Cassian’s relationship started, but she knew Nesta would be honest. And that’s what she needed right now.
Nesta flung the door open trying not to give her little sister an annoyed look. “What’s wrong?” She says monotonously. Elain enters the room and begins pacing, not noticing Cassian half naked in her bed. “I need advice,” she gets out quickly. “Y/n has been avoiding me for days and our anniversary is tomorrow. She’s busy but she’s never been busy like this. Like she has no time for me. And she isn’t answering my notes. I don’t want to jump to conclusions so what do I do Nesta?” Elain’s practically shouting at her sister now.
Nesta juts put a hip, placing her hands on her hips. “You said your anniversary is tomorrow yes?” Elain nods. “Ok, so think about that for minute. And how Feyre won’t answer your questions. And is y/n good at keeping secrets? Or do you think she is truly hiding something from you?” Then it dawned on Elain.
~~
You cut the pink bow that was the finishing touch on Elain’s anniversary present. You were so excited for tomorrow! The two of you had been together for a year now and it was the best year of your life. Elain is the sweetest female and she deserves the world.
An urgent knock on your front door makes you jump a little. Opening it, your eyes land on a very frazzled Elain. “Elain? Is everything alright honey?” She stomps in past you, then turns on her heel causing her pale blue dress to flare out.
“Why have you been avoiding me?” She asks desperately. “Did I do something? Or is it something else?” Your heart began to race. You didn’t realize how fast the week flew by or how little communication you two had. “What? No, Elain I’m so sorry. I was busy and I didn’t want to spoil your gift.”
She let out a breath and her shoulders relaxed. “I hate to ask but I’d feel better if you proved it.” You didn’t mind. Anything to put your girlfriends mind at ease. You knew Grayson left her with some trust issues because of how fast he dumped her and you had nothing to hide.
You take her hand kissing her knuckles, leading her into the sitting room. Sitting on your coffee table was the wrapped gift and what looked like a flower bouquet. Dropping Elain’s hand you pad over to the table to pick up the bouquet. “I was going to come over this afternoon to give you this. It’s a pre-anniversary present.”
Handing her the bouquet, Elain’s eyes go wide. There were twenty packets of rare flower seeds. They must’ve been impossible to find, not to mention very expensive. “I had to ask Feyre and Rhys to go to the Continent to get them. But they’re all flowers you’ve talked about or marked in your book. Do you like it?”
Elain was speechless. How could she not like it? “I love it. This is the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me.” Not even Grayson did things like this for her in the months they were together. “I’m sorry I doubted you, y/n.” You pull Elain into a tight hug. “It’s ok honey. I understand, but know that I love you and I would never ever hurt you.” “I know.” She whispers.

Josie and Sophie being Ballet WAGs is something I never knew I needed in my life until now.
Sophie being thrown around by her prim as fuck Sommelier Ballet Boyfriend… lucky lucky duck
Josie literally never would have thought that when she took her grandmother to the Royal Ballet for her birthday that she'd see Edwina Sharma dancing across the stage and fall in love with her.
Even less would she have thought that she'd be back a week later, trying to pretend her eyes weren't glued to her. And again, two weeks later. More than she's ever been to the Ballet in her entire life. She doesn't even like the ballet. She shook her head as she turned the corner away from the Opera house and runs smack-bang into her, Edwina stumbling back in surprise, her hair still pulled back, makeup mostly still on and Josie's heart stops.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry."
"You're fine." The woman brushed her off, smiling gently. "Enjoy your night."
And for the rest of her life, Josie'll be glad she called out like a lunatic after her. "I've come twice just to see you!"
She stopped, turning back to her with her eyebrow raised, "I'm sorry?"
Josie cleared her throat, cursing herself a little, "I um- I brought my grandmother, for her birthday. And... you were so good I- I came back twice more."
Edwina smiled, tilting her head, "That's sweet but I'm... not the lead dancer, I think you might have me confused with Jess. Maybe one day though."
"I'm not confused."
Something was building between them, unbelievably honestly, as their eyes met right there on the street, the light casting a glow around Edwina.
"Well um- I just- You're great." Josie ducked her head, "I'm going to go now."
She whirled around, slightly mortified, her cheeks burning suddenly desperate to get away from the quietly intimidating woman.
"Are you like... seriously not going to ask for my number?"
Josie whirled around blinking a little stupidly, "I... didn't know I could?"
She chuckled, a kind little sound, rummaging in her bag for a moment before she plucked out a pen "Why not? You're pretty and you seem cute. Can I have your hand?"
"Can I have your autograph?" Josie spat it out again, thrusting the program forward, awkwardly.
She smiled again, their fingers brushing as Edwina took it from her, flicking to the small portrait of her printed in the back, scribbling her signature quickly, a phone number printed neatly underneath.
"Maybe... you could call me. Because I think 3 times is enough to see this show."
"I'll definitely call you."
"And Maybe you want to tell me your name?"
"Fuck." Josie cursed, "It's um- I'm Josephine, Josie."
"It was nice to meet you, Josie."
"Yes, Yeah!" Josie called out as Edwina walked backwards away from her, "I'll- I'll be back though!"
And she is, a week later, after their first date, Edwina finds flowers delivered to her dressing room and she rolls her eyes, expecting to find her mum's handwriting or Kate's in the card, but it isn't. It's a little unfamiliar but it feels nice when she sees Can't wait to see you again- Josie x And when she leaves the stage door, there Josie is. Leaning against the wall.
But Sophie and Josie are the proudest royal Ballet WAGS. Unbelievable. Wearing their partner's Royal Ballet Sweatshirts, Sophie rolling her eyes when a client says-
"Wouldn't have pegged you for a Royal Ballet fan."
"My boyfriend is in the company. I stole this off him." She sighs, "Kate's sister is as well."
They blinked, "Your boyfriend is a ballerina?"
"They're called Danseurs, actually. And yeah he is."
"He must be ripped as fuck."
And she couldn't help but smirk, "Yeah he is. Very fun to be consensually tossed around."
"That's my brother, Sophie." Anthony called out, "Don't be gross, please."
"I caught you mounting my best friend yesterday, Anthony, cool it!"
And mostly, Sophie, Kate and Josie co-ordinate their supportive trips to the ballet, all of them sat together, clapping almost too loudly.

Your book sounds so cool!!!
AAAAAA, THANK YOU SO MUCH! It's called The Tale of the Evil Sorcerer/O Conto do Feiticeiro Maligno and it's free to read over Wattpad, but there isn't an english translation and I prob won't do that any time soon, as I'm going to rewrite it someday.
It's about an "evil" sorcerer who kidnapped a princess by accident, only to fall in love at first sight with the knight who came to save her. Things become worse when the princess figures out the sorcerer was never evil at all, but he's so bad at communication that he just let the rumors spread because it was easier than dealing with them, so she decides to strike a deal: She'll help him try to talk with the knight, who also happens to be her BFF, and in turn he will teach her how to be a sorcerer. And no, the knight has no idea what's going on, and he's also been indocrinated his whole life to beliefe that magic = SUPER BAD.
I love these three idiots so much. The sorcerer is called Meia-Noite (Midnight in english), princess is Valentyna, and the knight is Edgar. They share one (1) braincell and are all doomed by the narrative, except the story has a happy ending for everyone. The only villain who's not sympathetic is a transphobe named Joanne Atropa and she's english-coded. This is not a reference to an IRL transphobe/neonazi author, uh-uh, never! Infodump under the cut:
Meia-Noite is a gay disaster who lives in a fortress he found at age 13 in the middle of a jungle. Goth, anxious, and is actually a healer and not a shadow manipulator like the rumors say. He helps people if they get lost and need someone to treat their injuries because his duty as a healer is capable of overtaking his fear of strangers. He's tall with long dark hair but if the wind hits him a bit too hard he goes flying with it, the guy is a STICK.
Edgar is a bi knight who has trained his entire life to protect the girl he sees as a sister. He's autistic, albino and is REALLY serious about his duties as a knight (he's 17) to the point he forgot about everything else. Outside the harsh exterior he's actually a huge sweetie who loves photography and is super curious about magic, but feels super guilty and bad about it.
Valentyna is a lesbian princess who's a prodigy at almost everything she does, but her parents refuse to teach her light magic and she's desperate to help the people of her kingdom. This girl punched Meia the SECOND she was able to do so during the kidnapping, she may not know what she's doing but somehow she is winning the game. She cares so much about everyone around her! Also adopted an albino snake and named it Açúcar (Sugar) 15 seconds after finding her in the palace's gardens.
My girlfriend also wanted to say this:
Tumblr media
[image id: "ALSO YOU NEED TO MENTION AÇÚCAR. lovely baby, has never done anything wrong, most important character". end image id]
Some other characters include:
Olhos de Fogo (Fire Eyes), a HUGE dumbass who's also a sorcerer. Pan king, ranked #1 arsonist over three different kingdoms, also ranked most handsome character by the readers (somehow!!!!! People love to thirst over him!) and has a "very gender" title given by me. Doomed by the narrative except unlike the trio he just accepts his fate because he's a huge loser. If this will end well for him or not it's something everyone has yet to see. My girlfriend has this to say about him:
Tumblr media
[image id: "i love my terrible slutty son tho". end image id.]
Angélica, Meia's adopted sister, can see the future sometimes and is also a fashion enthusiasts. Use the people in the "fortress" she lives in as test subjects for her clothes, girlie is always tired and a bit terrified of the future ahead but trying her BEST to stay positive. And failing. I want to give her a special treatment in the rewrite because I think she deserves it.
Comandante (Commander), has this name because they're the commander of the non-binary nation. Accidentally misheard Meia-Noite and thought they were supposed to KIDNAP Valentyna instead of politely taking her over for a conversation about why her parents are incompetent at their jobs, now must be the parent friend to everyone. I love them so much, they're an icon to me.
Elisabeth, a princess from a rival kingdom who may or may not be Valentyna's crush. A bit more on the gothic side, had a pretty unusual childhood and her tweenhood was pretty hard. Tries her best to look eloquent and always knowing what to do, but really, REALLY wants to be a bit more loose. She and Tyna will have an enemies/rivals to lovers arc in the rewrite bc why not.
IT/THAT THING/ANYTHING/THE ???????????. A creature that's always watching. Also may be the guy that gave Meia half of his trauma.
The NARRADORA, AKA Narrator, the girl who's telling this story. It's her first big assignment and she LOOOVES saying her opinions about what is going on, much to her professor/adopted father's dismay.
THE NARRADOR, AKA Narrator but masc, is Narradora's older brother and a lot more kept-together than her, except it's all a facade for an equally chaotic creature. Loves gossip.
THE PROTAGONISTA, AKA Protagonist, who's ALSO another narrator. Super insecure because he's still training to be a storyteller, but he has his boyfriend (Narrador) and best friend (Narradora) to help.
THE LOCUTOR, who only appears to narrate like three times max. Older brother figure of the group, a huge cryptid who seems to be the coolest thing ever until you discover he stole an one-night-stand's head for funsies and is yet to give it back.
THE HOMEM VELHO, AKA Old Man, the professor of the group. Never makes a proper apparition but I want to mention him because he's a tired dad, someone PLEASE give him a break.

Riley frantically dug through the discarded pile of clothing from the night before, “Shit! I don’t have any clean clothes!”
“Um…down the hall, second door on the right, that’s the room Sav uses when she visits. Go see if you can find something in there.” His sister hadn’t been to the cabin in years as far as he knew, but he also didn’t think she would have bothered retrieving any extra clothes left there when she had moved to France.
Riley sprinted down the hall and into the room, rifling quickly through drawers. In less than three minutes she was back wearing a pair of yoga pants and a T-shirt that fit well enough, “Hurry, let’s go!”
Drake had pulled on a clean shirt and was lacing up his shoes, “Yeah, coming!” He nearly tripped as he stood and swiped the keys off the bedside table before stumbling to the door.
They were pulling out of his driveway eight minutes behind Liam. “You sure this is a good idea? I know you want to support Liam but-“
“This isn’t about Liam! It’s about Hana!”
“I thought you two hated each other…”
“We do! I mean we don’t…I mean she’s my best friend! Was my best friend….I just need to know she’s okay, her and the baby, all right?”
“Yeah, of course!” He reached across the console and took her hand, “I get it. I’ll get you to the hospital, don’t worry!”
“Thanks,” she gave him a grateful look, “I know this whole situation is a complete mess. You probably wish you’d never bumped into me in that ballroom.”
“Are you kidding?” He scoffed, “This is the most excitement I’ve had in years. I hang out almost exclusively with cattle and they’re pretty boring.”
That got a smile out of her, “Not very talkative, are they?”
“Oh, they’re very talkative!” He corrected her, “In fact, they rarely shut up! I just don’t speak bovine.”
She snorted, “I don’t believe you. I think you’re probably fluent in it!” She knew he was using humor to distract her, and she was grateful for it.
Her feelings for Hana were complicated. They had become best friends over the course of the social season, culminating in Hana confessing romantic feelings for her.
Desperation laced Hana’s voice as she implored, “The coronation is in two days, Riley, but he can’t pick either of us if we’re not here! Let’s just go, me and you! We can be together!”
“Oh, Hana….I love you, but-“
Hana’s face lit up as joy infused her entire being, “I love you too, Riley! So much! I’ve never felt this way about anyone before, I didn’t even know it was possible to-“
“Hana, stop! Listen!”
“What?” Hana’s big doe eyes searched hers, “What is it?”
“I love you but not the way I love him! I love him, Hana, and if he picks me, I’m going to say yes!”
“Oh!” Hana dropped her grip on Riley’s arm and stepped back like she’d been electrocuted.
“Hana, please-“ Riley reached for her, but the other woman sidestepped her.
“You kissed me….” Hana’s voice was barely audible.
“In a truth or dare game!”
“But…” tears pooled in her eyes, “It felt so real!”
“It was real, Hana! It just wasn’t what I have with Liam. I should never have kissed you! I didn’t mean to mislead you, I’m sorry, I-“
“Why would you say that?” Hana looked like she’d been struck, “You regret the kiss?”
“Yes! I mean no! I mean I regret that I hurt you, that you’re confused about-“
“I’m not the one that’s confused, Riley!” An emotion swept across Hana’s face that Riley had seldom seen there: anger.
“Hana-“
“You’re going to regret this someday, Riley, he doesn’t love you like I do! He can’t!”
If Riley had known what was coming down the pike on coronation night, would she have made a different decision? She and Hana could have gone to Shanghai, or New York, or anywhere in the world really, the two of them could be happy with each other right now leaving Liam to Olivia or Madeleine or whoever the royal council deemed suitable.
But instead, when Liam had broken her heart, he hadn’t just taken himself away from her, he had ripped Hana away from her as well.
“I choose….Lady Hana Lee!”
Riley’s heart stopped. NO!
She had known the council was still debating her approval, but she had really believed Liam would be able to sway them. She had also believed that if they didn’t approve her, he was going to refuse to get engaged, to anyone, because he had told her as much.
She found Hana in the crowd. She had been avoiding her, they hadn’t spoken since Riley had rejected her advances. Hana looked as shocked as Riley felt, but as their eyes met, a slow smile crawled across Hana’s face, and she shook her head from side to side.
Riley watched as Hana climbed onto the stage, took Liam’s hand, and found Riley’s gaze again before exclaiming, “I accept!”
Riley turned and ran from the ballroom, but there was nowhere to run to, the one person she would have gone to for comfort, for solace, had just participated in ripping her heart from her chest.
She flung her clothes into a suitcase and sent a text to Max: Bring the car around, I need to get out of here now!
She had left the palace that night planning to return to New York to lick her wounds. At least her student loans were paid off. She could take a few months to heal before starting a job search. Her apartment was gone but her parents would let her stay in her old room.
Her path forward had been clear until Liam had shown up on her doorstep.
“Riley, please! If you’ll just listen!”
“Listen to what, Liam? You promised me a future!”
“We can still have a future!”
“How? You’re engaged! To my best friend!”
“Because the council wouldn’t approve you! I had no choice!”
“You had a choice! You could have refused to get engaged to anyone! That’s what you told me you were going to do if the approval didn’t come through!”
“Yes, but that was before I found out my father is dying, Riley! I couldn’t be crowned king without being engaged and he has weeks left to live!”
“What?” She turned her tear-streaked face up to him, “How long have you known that?”
“I found out moments before the coronation when I told him I was going to wait another season. That’s when he told me that we didn’t have another season!”
“Oh.” She didn’t know what to say to that.
“Please stay, I love you; we can make this work!”
“How? I don’t even know if Bertrand wants me to-“
“You don’t have to depend on the Beaumonts any longer, Riley, I have something for you.” He produced a sheaf of papers and handed them to her.
“What’s this?”
“This is the paperwork transferring the deed to Valtoria to you and conferring the rank and title of duchess!” He smiled at her proudly.
“I…don’t understand. What’s a Valtoria?”
“It’s a duchy, my love,” he chuckled, “You’ll be a member of the Cordonian aristocracy in your own right, with your own lands, titles, and bank accounts. It lets you stay here as it grants automatic citizenship, gives you a governmental position, a means of supporting yourself, and provides a very real reason for us to spend time together, as you’ll need to be brought up to speed on how to run it.”
Her eyes flicked uncertainly back and forth from him to the papers in her hands, “You’ve…. thought of everything…”
Everything except how to have avoided breaking her heart, ripping their planned future right out of her hands, and taking her best friend from her in one fell swoop.
“Please say you’ll stay, Riley. Please!”
He looked so lost and forlorn, so full of longing and sadness that her heart constricted in her chest. She still loved him and the fact that he still loved her eased some of her pain, despite the convoluted situation they found themselves in.
In that moment, she wasn’t thinking logically. All she knew was that saying yes relieved a lot of pain for both of them.
She could stay and give it a try. If it didn’t work out, she could always leave later, right?
“Earth to Riley….” Drake’s voice pulled her out of her reverie.
“Oh, sorry!”
“It’s okay, you have a lot on your mind. Where were you just now?”
“I was thinking about how everything went down between me and Hana.”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“I think I’d like that actually, just not right now.”
“Okay, I’m always only ever a phone call away.”
Her head jerked up, “A phone call? Are you leaving already? You just got here!”
“That was my mom on the phone, she needs me back ASAP, there’s something wrong with the herd.”
“Oh, no! I’m so sorry! What is it?”
“I’m not sure, but it’s nothing for you to worry about. Let’s focus on Hana right now.”
“Drake, I want to be here for you too!”
“I appreciate that, and I will take you up on it. Just not right now. Like I said, you’re worried about your friend. We can talk later.”
“Okay, if we find out Hana is okay-“
“When we find out Hana is okay!” He corrected her.
“But what if-“
“Hey, you know Liam is going to get her the best medical care the world has to offer, right?”
“You’re right.”
“Of course I am! Once we know she’s going to be fine, then you and I can tell each other all our secrets, okay?”
“Yeah, that sounds good.”
He guided the car into the hospital parking lot and into a parking spot, “Here we are.”
She reached for his hand again, “Drake, thank you.”
“Don’t thank me yet,” he grinned at her, “I still have to get you past security!”

how is bramblepaw’s characterization since it is shown that bramblestar is an actively bad person instead of “oh he’s a good guy uwu” while he is 100% fine with letting kits die for some land
Something I want to say with my rewrite, but I'm not sure how, is that power is an amplifying sort of force. Someone who's a pretty... normal sort of bad can do a LOT more harm without even meaning to, when power is added to the mix.
But I'm not sure how to show that, in the story itself.
Bramblepaw
Anyway, Bramblepaw is just a kid. He's a kid and Darkstripe sneaks him out to meet his dad, only to find out his dad's a horrible murderer. He sees violent death at a young age; Runningwind, then his older brother Swiftpaw.
Firestar takes him as an apprentice, only for Bramble to find out he did it because he's always been suspicious of him. That nice man he met, Leader of ShadowClan, the one who smiled and looked at you with such love, he's the reason why you don't see Mr. Runningwind anymore. That's why Cousin Cinderpelt's leg hurts in bad weather. That's why the whole Clan looks at you like that.
All the while, Tigerstar is demanding his children, since ThunderClan couldn't protect his oldest. Bramblepaw has only ever known fear and distrust from a very young age.
I imagine that the real turning point of his life was watching Tawnypaw leave. He had his cousins, he had his mom, but something about watching her vanish into the night... he felt so alone. He felt like he lost something that he will never get back.
Suffering doesn't make you a better person, it just hurts. Every horrible thing that Bramble does is in some desperate attempt to prevent people from leaving him, or to not "lose" something. Respect, Clanmates, Lovers...
Bramblestar
So, power. He never should have had it.
As a regular warrior the sort of damage he can do is limited. Think to the time in TNP when Squirrelflight broke up with him and he acted like a dick to her for several chapters. It was shitty, but AT MOST he could just embarrass her in front of her mom and yell at her a lot.
Tweak the writing a bit so that the Clan isn't completely oblivious to this being an abusive dynamic, and Squilf could have found a lot of support here.
But add power to the mix, and Bramble's mind games suddenly encompass the entire Clan. In Canon Squirrelflight's Hope, you can SEE the cycle of abuse taking place, the same way you see it in TNP. But this time, Squilf disobeying her husband also means disobeying the Clan Leader. Every political action she takes is also an action that affects her romantic life.
So it's not necessarily that Bramblestar is best described as, 'ok with letting the kits die for some land.' It's not about the land. It's about controlling Squirrelflight. It's about proving to himself that she won't make him lose face, that she won't make him lose control of his clan, and also, that no matter WHAT he does or decides, that he won't lose her as well.
EVERYTHING gets lost in pursuit of that goal. Everything. The personhood of the sisters, the kits, the well being of the Clan at large.
"Why are you doing this to me?!" He shouts, when Squirrelflight is trying to save the life of a dying cat by preventing him from intimidating a medic. He's only thinking about himself.
That's it. That's the motivation. He's not a Machiavellian psychopath who thinks baby-eating is cool. It's carelessness. It's selfishness. It's control.
Everything gets lost in the pursuit of what he wants. He's just a mediocre manchild who failed upwards, and an incompetent leader looks an awful lot like a malicious one.
Rewrite
He actually doesn't become deputy in Bonefall TNP. It's a sudden choice that Firestar makes after Brackenfur shows up dead, and shortly after that Bramblestar is thrust into power.
I think his best moment in my rewrite is right after he fights Hawkfrost to save Firestar, when he agrees that he needs to step down, and serves as a faithful warrior for a while.
That's the moment in his life when he does the most introspection, and is probably the healthiest and happiest version of Bramble that he will ever be. It's short-lived, as it all comes crashing down by the end of Po3... but for a few years, he was just Brambleclaw, Normal Guy.
Idk. I think about him a lot. They should invent cat therapy and study his fucked up little kitty brain.

phantom hourglass >:3
Ok y’all know that this is like, one of my top three fav Zelda games. I ADORE phantom hourglass. I’m gonna talk about it more in detail.
This game is incredibly flawed, but my gosh the good stuff stick out for me. The story is really good to me and very unique compared to other Zelda stories. Taking the ghost ship idea was so neat and I find Bellum a very cool villain despite not having much of a personality. Oshus is an underrated and neat character, and seems to be one of the only characters to do not ask you to defeat the evil villain cuz it’s too dangerous and he doesn’t want you to be responsible for his own problems. And Ciela and Link going to try to head to the ocean king temple despite his protests makes it feel like Link wanted to willingly do it himself is just, very unique to me. I’m not against characters asking Link to fight the battles despite being so young because he’s the main character and you want to be able to play as him so 🤷‍♀️ however having Oshus not act this way really makes me a benevolent kind man and I really like his character a lot. I think Ciela is cute at times and is the best fairy companion to me. Linebeck is my wife like do I even need to talk about him any further? I’m obsessed with this man, his theme song is amazing, his character development is amazing, and he’s just amazing.
The story to me is very cool and natural, and when you’re not in the ocean king temple, the dungeons are very fun! Phantom hourglass has some of the most unique and fun puzzles ever, and it utilizes the DS in such a creative way! The ocean king temple, imo, is more fun second time around with no guide, and the bosses are SO cool and so different from other bosses! And then the ghost ship part, man not enough people talk about that dungeon! The sisters are so obviously suspicious and evil and it’s cool going through the ship seeing terrifying reaper monsters and different traps. It’s a very unique dungeon and I wish the other dungeons were just as unique. The progression through the storyline at this part is good and after the ghost ship, the game just gets better. The temples are far more unique and creative with amazing items. I love the whole thing with the Anouki and the Yook, and having to find the imposter is challenging but so fun. The Goron Chief’s son is yet another underrated character to me and I love how you can control him in the Goron temple! And the different mini dungeons before the main one with the cobble kingdom was so cool! It’s very good that this game may have a very big temple that seems overwhelming, but it’s linear enough that as long as you move forward, you’ll be fine and be able to get to everything! And then heading to the last levels of the ocean king temple are so amazing. You have the phantom sword and you kill phantoms, the guys that you couldn’t kill before!! And the Bellum battles are so awesome with GOOD music. Any song involving Bellum is good. And y’all know my thoughts on bellumbeck, it’s truly one of the best final bosses to me. It’s so desperate and stressful to do such a thing to such a character, and it was also Bellum’s last desperate attempt to defeat Link. It’s just SOOOOO good and this game is underrated and I love it
Now it’s definitely flawed 💀💀 the world is pretty empty with boring islands before the ghost ship. The npcs on these islands aren’t super interesting and the music makes the dungeons feel too samey to me. Like, this game has GOOD songs, but the mid songs take up too much of the game where it’s kinda lame :/ and I cannot stress this enough, Tetra deserved better. She always deserved better. She has been done dirty in every game she’s been in. Always reduced to a damsel in distress, which there’s nothing wrong with those characters, but did it need to be done with Tetra’s character? It sucks the life out of her for me and I just, hate how she’s always needing to be saved. Like come ON Bellum got her TWICE. And lastly, I wish Neri and Leaf got more attention 😔 I have fun playing with three fairies bullying Linebeck.
All in all, I love this game. I really really love it

Hello my darling Kombatant! 😁
Can I please request headcanons for Erron, Johnny, Liu Kang, and Kung Lao being close friends with a married woman who’s very kind and reacting to her completely going insane when she discovers her husband is cheating on her?
ngl this request has made me want to watch all of soul food now it looks so good
MK Lads React To Fem!Reader Attacking Her Cheating Husband
Tumblr media
Erron Black
Erron sees what's coming before it happened. In a way, he's already seen it all before. Familial tensions. Arguing. When you suddenly reveal your husband is cheating, that's when Erron knows that the pin is going to drop.
Your husband tries to talk you down from your accusation, and Erron steps in between you and him, gently pushing your husband to a safer distance.
As you fly into a rage and pull out a carving knife, you circle the kitchen island and try and close in on your husband. Erron, however, beats you to it, pushing your husband into the front room as he moves in to grab you by your arm, wrenching the knife from your grasp.
As you fall to your knees in tears, Erron peeks into the front room to check on your husband, who was currently on the front lawn shaking in terror, now surrounded by a group of concerned onlookers. He turns back to you and goes to fetch you a glass of wine, God knows you needed it.
Erron is saddened to know about your marital struggles but your husband made two fatal mistakes. 1) he forgot that hell has no fury like a woman scorned. 2) you never upset a woman in the kitchen (it's where all the knives are).
Erron pours you a glass but keeps the wine bottle handy, offering to take you out back to drown your sorrows with a friend, while the situation cools down. Also to get you away from any more possible weapons.
Tumblr media
Johnny Cage
Johnny is slowly stuffing his face with everything in your fridge as the tension builds between you and your family in the kitchen. He's an emotional eater, despite what the tabloids say.
As an argument begins, Johnny is careful to only peek around the fridge door, keeping his body covered like some kind of shield.
As you pull out a carving knife and close in on your husband in a fit of rage, Johnny, in shock, attempts to close himself into the fridge, screaming in terror.
After your emotions catch up to you and you drop the knife in tears, Johnny doesn't go to you, he instead goes to your son that happened to bear witness to his mother flying into a murderous rage. I think of Johnny as a child of divorce and he knows firsthand how scary it can be for a child to witness that.
He walks up to your son, crouching down to his level, pressing a warm, comforting hand into his shoulder. "Hey, buddy. You okay? Come here." he says as he pulls your teary son into a hug. What goes on between you and your husband isn't really any of Johnny's concern, but he'll do all he can to protect your son during his turbulent time.
Tumblr media
Liu Kang
Kang has always been a friend of you and your husband, in fact, he was the ringbearer at your wedding. When he sees the facade of marital bliss slowly collapse in front of his eyes in your kitchen, he's completely at a loss for what to do.
He can't quite keep track of what your argument with your husband and sisters was about, but based on the tension and emotions that were quickly rising, it was about a lot more than selling your mother's house.
When you mention that your husband has had a recent affair, your voice filled with venom, Kang can't stop his jaw from falling open. He believes that he understands the phrase 'shit hits the fan' better now than he ever has. But he dutifully keeps his eyes on your kitchen floor, unable to find it in himself to look at either you or your husband.
Kang was too busy looking at the floor to see you pull out the knife, but he does hear the unmistakable 'shing' as your pull it from the knife block. Immediately, Kang goes to grab hold of your shoulders as you advance on your husband, desperately trying to console you as your friends and relatives scream.
He's surprised that you seem to let him stop you, you lower the knife and begin crying into his chest. Kang delicately takes the knife from your grasp and chucks it across the floor, wrapping his arms around you, giving your back a comforting rub.
Tumblr media
Kung Lao
Lao had originally entered the kitchen to get more nachos, but as a tense argument was brewing between you and your relatives, he thought it would be too awkward to leave. So he stayed in the background, munching on nachos as quietly as he could manage.
When you suddenly mention your husband's affair, Lao accidentally bites his tongue in shock, gasping and swearing under his breath as you and your family stare each other down, but none of you are paying him any attention.
As you pull out a knife and close in on your husband, Lao flings his hat expertly into the blade of your knife, knocking it from your hand and to the ground. Lao's hat was now embedded into the hardwood kitchen cabinets, but that was frankly the least of anybody's concerns.
Your husband flees the room in terror, as your drop to your knees in tears. Lao stands beside you briefly, slowly taking in what had just happened. He squats beside you and quietly apologises about the cabinet as you continue to sob. Lao gently pats your shoulder, feeling completely unequipped to handle this situation.

 ---
This was a game that you couldn’t miss, the final game of the season. You hadn’t miss one yet and you wasn’t going to miss this one even if you was 9 months pregnant and a few days overdue. You took it very easy regardless, you told your boyfriend if it was too much that you’d go home not like you wanted too but you’d have no choice. Baby shopping with Kepa always made your heart fill so warm and made you literally so happy, he’d do anything and everything for you and his first child. Early stages of the pregnancy you both decorated they nursery in a light lavender colour with white decor, you both decided to find out the sex of the baby and when you found out it was girl you was both over the moon. The contractions started at the 87th minute, you attempted to play it cool and somehow ignore the pain but your best friend Sophia could tell different. “We need to get Kepa off, let me get help” she said to you calmly but you could tell that she was freaking out “Sophia its fine, we have 3 minutes left, we can do this, I’ll be fine. He’ll be up here soon. I can do it” you smiled through the pain trying not give yourself anymore extra worry, Sophia made sure that the area was clear for a quick escape for you to go up the hospital. “Kepa, we need to go, I’m-” before you could even finish you had another sharp pain “por qué nadie me dijo?” (Why didn’t someone tell me?) “I wanted to but y/n wanted you to finish the game” Sophia said to your boyfriend with a slight forgiving smile. “Vamos princesa, íbamos a ser una familia de tres” (lets go princess, were going to be a family of three) and with that Kepa grabbed your hand, Sophia grabbed your bags to take to kepas car.
The drive to the hospital felt like it was forever but it was only 20 minutes, “Kepa please hurry, she’s coming” “Lo estoy intentando, ya casi llegamos, carino. Te amo” (I’m trying, we’re almost there darling. I love you.) When you both got there, your sister was already there waiting to help you out of the car whilst Kepa rushed to get you a chair and to inform the reception that you are in labour. Once you got onto the bed, you had your checks done and you was ready to push. “I don’t think I can do this, it’s too much for me” “puedes hacerlo, creo en ti” (you can do it, I believe in you) and with that you gave your biggest push that you ever give and within minutes your baby girl arrived. She was beautiful, hearing your little girl cried broke Kepa more than you thought it was. “lo hiciste, lo hiciste. Ella está aquí nuestra nina” (you did it, you did it. She’s here, our little girl)
--
Weeks passed you was adjusting to the new mother hood lifestyle and Kepa was already a fantastic father, you had lunch arranged with Sophia and your sister this afternoon and Kepa was desperate to take y/d/n out shopping to get her some new clothes, not like she needed anymore but you would never say no to him when he wanted to buy baby clothes. He sent you pictures after pictures whilst you was both out, it made your heart melt on how you’ve both made such a perfect little girl. When you arrived home you could smell dinner cooking and your favourite candle burning “I’m home darling” “hola mi amor, tengo la cena cocinado, el pequeno está dormido. La noche es nuestra” (hello my love, I’ve got dinner cooking, the little one is asleep. The night is ours) “I’m going to shower quickly my heels are killing me babe” “está bien, la cena estará lista en 20 minutos, carino” (that’s fine, dinner will be ready in 20 minutes darling). You went to your bedroom first to have a look at your daughter sleeping in her Chelsea baby grow which you couldn’t help but melt at, she was so tiny, the baby grow was slightly big for her but it made her look even more cutier than she already looked. After your shower you quickly did your skin care and went back downstairs to your boyfriend, having dinner all plated up in the dining room, candles lit and your favourite glass of wine waiting. “What’s all this for?” “nada, solo lo major para mi nina” (nothing, only the best for my girl) “I love you Kepa” “te amo mucho” (I love you so much). Once you both finished dinner, you were both equally tired and both fighter off the sleep so you called it a night since you had both families coming over in the following day.
--
Your alarm didn’t go off like it normally would, instead you woke up naturally. You gently went into you daughters room to see Kepa sitting in the corner holding your daughter in his hands talking about how you first met, you didn’t want to ruin the moment but you wanted to join them badly. “Good morning darling” “beunos días, le estaba contando a neustra hija cómo conoci a mi princesa” (good morning, I was just telling our daughter how I met my princess) he gently handed her over to you for feeding time and so he can get ready for the day. Still to this day you couldn’t imagine your life without both Kepa and your little girl.

light on
The one where Y/N is the daughter of a legendary Team USA coach and used to attend the development program with the boys. 8 years after they last saw each other in person, a reunion brings Jack and Y/N back into each other’s lives... and hearts.
if you keep the light on, i'll keep the light on
Tumblr media
XVI XVII - fools rush in (where angels fear to tread) XVIII
Y/N Y/L/N wasn’t one to run away. She never turned her back on a challenge or a problem. Nothing made her take a step back, not even the stickiest of situations. The infamous coach's daughter always grabbed the bull by its horns. But, as soon as Jack Hughes confessed having feelings for her, she shut down. From that moment on, all she could hear was static, as his lips continued moving, until she blurted out a simple oh.
The look on his face was one Y/N would never forget, as they gazed at each other under the moonlight and billions of bright stars. He stood there waiting, hopeful she’d add something to the discourse marker she’d managed to muster at first.
A quick I have to go escaped her mouth, turning away from her friend in a haste, fastening her pace in fear he’d catch up.
As she approached the log trellis, the teacher realized he hadn’t been following her. From afar, Y/N could distinguish his tall frame by the tree where, less than a couple of minutes before, they had shared their first kiss.
Their first kiss.
Her mind was racing a thousand miles an hour, his taste still imprinted on her now semi-smudged lips, a red flush staining her cheeks and her heart thumping loudly in her chest. She felt like a deer caught in headlights, completely blindsided, not by the kiss and Jack’s words, but by the way they had woken in her the need for more. More kisses. More gentle touches. More embraces. More heartfelt speeches. And, god, did that mortify her.
Celebration, by Kool & The Gang was playing in the speakers, as the live band was given a well-deserved break. Y/N glanced around the venue, spotting several of her friends. Finding River on the dancefloor, hopping around in a circle with little kids, she rushed to his side, tapping his shoulder to get his attention.
“Do you mind if I take off? Dad is driving you guys to the airport, right?”
“Yeah, dad’s got us covered. It’s still so early though, what happened?” her brother inquired, seeing the distressed look on his little sister's face.
“I need to get home to my girl…” the doctor lied. “She called asking me to… I’m sorry.”
“Ugh, moms.” the groom jokingly groaned, hugging his maid of honor. “Alright, go. You know what to do with David’s car, right?”
“Yes, take it back to your place, park it in the garage, lock up.”
“Keys?”
“Home.”
“Not your set of my house keys, you dork. The car keys. Do you know where they are?”
“I- ”
“Our room, in the bedside table’s first drawer.”
“Thanks, Riv… It was an amazing wedding.”
“It was, wasn’t it?” he smiled proudly, bumping hos hip against Y/N's.
“Absolutely.” the doctor replied, preparing herself to leave.
“Hey!” River called out, waiting for his sister to stop and face him again. “Thank you. For everything.”
Y/N acknowledged hid gratitude with a small smile, moving to quickly say goodbye to her parents and her friends, pick up her bag and David’s car keys from the cabin and get on the road.
*
The doctor desperately needed to clear her head and process the turn of events. A wave of remorse washed over her as she reached the gated community’s exit and drove past them without looking back.
What was she doing? What was he thinking? How was she supposed to handle the storm of emotions brewing up inside her at that very moment?
Seeing that David’s car was running out of fuel, Y/N exited the highway to pull up at a gas station. The cool breeze brought her out of the current state of self-induced shock forcing her to take a deep breath and slow her heart rate. While the helpful employee filled up the tank, she turned on the radio, hoping loud music would help drown out the sound of Jack's words, which were still resounding in her ears.
Skipping through several radio stations, the doctor settled for the only one that wasn’t playing sappy love songs.
*
Jack stood there, helpless and frozen, as the woman he had professed his affection to walked away from him, quickly disappearing from his sight, back to the ever-growing party in the trellis.
The Devils' player thought he’d feel crushed if she rejected him, but he was surprised to discover that inside him resided a glimmer of hope. The only thing he wasn’t sure of was whether it was hope for something more or simply just hope for normalcy. Maybe he hadn’t completely screwed up their friendship. Y/N had always been the reasonable one and he knew that, above everything else, they were good friends.
For a moment, while the brunette man held her face in his hands and their lips were connected in a kiss, he believed her heart had ignited as his did. Perhaps it was just wishful thinking.
Running his fingers through his grown-out hair, Jack let out a deep sigh. The relief he had felt once the words had rushed out of his mouth was replaced with concern for Y/N. There was no denying his confession had left her stunned and speechless. He fought the natural instinct to hide after his ego was bruised and headed back to the venue, wanting to make sure that she was okay. As soon as he stepped foot inside, Trevor put him in a headlock, cheering triumphantly.
“My man!”
“Jesus, Z, let go of me.” Jack grunted, struggling to free himself from his friend’s tight hold.
“Damn, dude, I didn’t think you had in you… Thank god you found a pair of balls!”
“What the hell are you talking about?” the Devils' player huffed, untangling himself from Trevor's embrace and scanning through the crowd, looking for Y/N.
“You told her! I know you did. She came in here all red and disheveled, telling everyone she was going home.” his friend stated, making quotation marks using his fingers. “But I saw her sneak into the cabin a few minutes ago. You’re fast on track, aren’t you, you dirty bastard?” he teased, elbowing Jack's side.
The brunette man slapped Trevor in the back of his head, annoyed over his bad timing and apparent lack of sensibility.
“Okay, okay, I won’t make any remarks about your sex life again, chill.”
“You said she was at the cabin?” he asked, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Yeah. If you need protection, you know where to – okay, you’re walking away. Very polite.” the blond man grumbled, stirring his Long Island iced tea with the small umbrella that came with it. “Ellen would be appalled!”
*
Jack swung the front door open, after nearly tripping while skipping three steps at a time to get there. The living room was empty, not a flicker of light inside illuminating it, encouraging him to check the bedrooms.
Their room appeared to be untouched, every trace of her presence erased from it. By that time, Y/N was probably long gone.
The Devils' player sat down on the edge of the bed they had slept in the night before, his head deciding to replay the entire weekend again. The laughter, the confessions, the stares, the adoring smiles. Whatever happened from that point on, he’d always remember the way he felt when his lips touched hers, when her big eyes looked into his, when her tiny frame fit perfectly in his as they slept.
“Jack?”
He glanced at the door, finding Leo peeping through it with an inquisitive look on his face.
“What’s up, little man?”
“Are you okay?” the little boy asked, coming in, accompanied by River and David’s three dogs, who ran up to the Devils' player excitedly, placing their paws on his legs, waiting for him to pet them.
“Hey, guys! Aren’t you all fired up?” he laughed at his furry friends, that were now competing for his attention, their tails wagging rapidly from side to side. “Yeah. I am. Why wouldn’t I be, Leo?”
“Y/N left and she looked worried, you came after her and now you’re sitting here like you’ve been grounded.”
“You followed me inside to come check up on me?” Jack prodded, receiving a simple nod in response. “Do your parents know where you are?”
“No…. You were walking really fast.” Leo admitted, looking down at his feet.
“You shouldn’t have done that… Your mom must be losing it by now, buddy. Come on, I’ll take you back to the reception.” he offered, getting up and leading the seven-year-old by his shoulders, followed closely by their three furry companions.
“I know…” the boy uttered. “Sorry, Jack.”
“For what?” the hockey player raised an eyebrow, as he accompanied Sean's son to the venue.
“I know you like Y/N and you’re sad she left. I’m sorry about that.”
Jack looked back at the cabin one more time, forcing himself to walk away. “Me too, Leo. Me too.”
*
The doctor held her daughter’s sleeping body in her arms as she hurried inside to get her to bed, struggling to carry her luggage as she did so.
Giving her ex-husband nothing more than an I just missed her and I’m really tired as an excuse to have left River and David’s wedding that early, Y/N drove to her house, at two in the morning, wanting nothing more than to be with her girl and her girl only. Back to normal. If everything went back to the way it was before the reunion she wouldn’t get hurt. She couldn’t get hurt. Not again.
Laying Joey on the bed and pulling the covers over her tiny frame, the petite woman immediately took off her shoes, heading to her room, where she hastily undressed herself, jumping into the shower.
Her beautiful hairdo fell apart as she took off the tiny bobby pins that held it in their restraints. Y/N's locks cascaded down her bare shoulders, while she washed off the physical remnants of Jack's touch from the skin he had traced with the tip of his fingers throughout the day.
The burning hot water relaxed her tense back muscles and tired legs, but it couldn’t ease her mind. It raced even faster than before, now that there was no music, no sound to be heard other than the antagonistic voices in her head. There were mostly thoughts of incredulity, confusion and denial but, a tiny little voice in the back of her mind reminded her that, before she pulled back, she had lingered on his kiss and reveled in the way his lips felt against hers. Taking a deep breath, the doctor got out of the shower, dripping her dripping wet, naked body in a soft towel.
Running her hands through her damp hair, Y/N looked up at the vintage mirror above the washbasin, her eyes meeting her reflection.
“Shit!” she cursed out once she saw the black streaks of her eyeliner and mascara staining her cheeks.
She had neglected to remover her makeup before taking a shower, which went against every rule she had established for herself when it came to skincare. She took pride in how well she treated her skin and how it still resisted the toll the sun took on most people’s complexion.
Taking the makeup remover and a pad from a drawer, applying the baby blue liquid on the cotton, Y/N ran it softly all over her face, avoiding rubbing it in. Ending her nighttime routine by brushing her pearly white teeth, her hair, and then lightly tapping an overnight mask onto her skin, the teacher padded to her large, empty bed.
All she could hear now was the steady rhythm of her heart, demanding her to feel something. Anything.
Reaching for her phone, buried deep in her carry-on, she quickly dialed a number she’d known by heart for years.
*
“Hello?” Jack answered his phone, a hint of uncertainty laced in his voice.
“Baby!”
“Oh…” he sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose yet again, hearing a cheery female voice coming from the other end. “Hi mom.”
“Gee, no need to get that excited when you get a call from your mother!” Ellen chuckled.
“Sorry.” the brunette man muttered, clearing his throat as Alex walked by, obviously determined to do his best to disrupt his call, as usual. “It’s…” he stopped to take a glance at his wristwatch. “Really late. Is everything okay?”
“Everything’s fine. I’m just playing cards with dad. He's kicking my ass.”
“As usual.” Jack teased, now in a lighter mood.
“Ouch! Seriously?”
“We all know dad is the best player in our family.”
“Yeah… I know…” the older woman agreed. “Anyway, just wanted to check in on you. “How’s the wedding going?”
Alex was now prancing back and forth in front of him, dancing the tango with a nonexistent partner. Dipping the make-believe dancer, he proceeded to kiss them passionately, making loud noises as he did.
“Oh, Jack, yes, kiss me. Kiss me right there.” his friend moaned in a pitchy voice.
The Devils' player rolled his eyes jokingly, stretching his leg to lightly kick his behind as his way of ordering him to go away.
“It’s going great, yeah.” he answered his mother.
“How’s Y/N?” Ellen Hughes prodded not-so-subtly.
“Oh, I see what this is about.”
“What?”
“Trevor's your mole, isn’t he? He told you about what happened.” Jack stated.
Alex stopped fooling around, his curiosity peaking at that very moment, wondering what Trevor has been babbling to Jack’s mother about.
“Well, Trevor keeps Luke posted, and Luke, as you know, isn’t that hard to bribe.” his mother admitted.
“Did you make him pizza for dinner?”
“Chocolate chip cookies as well.” Ellen added, glancing at her husband, who was shuffling the cards with his eyes set on her.
“Are you guys still betting on my love life?”
“Of course not!” the older woman protested, feigning hurt. “Well, kind of. But you know it’s just our competitive nature coming out. We all love you and want you to be happy.”
“You guys are hopeless… I’ll give you a call tomorrow. Love you.” Jack said softly, too tired to fight his doting mother, hanging up after she bid him goodbye.
Shoving his large phone in his pocket and doing the same with his hands, he walked around the venue, watching everyone having a good time from the outside.
The guests continued to go about the celebration, oblivious to the turmoil inside the hockey player's head. Should he call her? Text her? The worry he was feeling clouded his judgement as he looked up her number on his phone.
“No, you’re not doing that.” Trevor stated, grabbing the mobile device from his hands. “I’m keeping this in my possession to stop you from being clingy.”
“I was just going to check if she’s okay, alright? I think I scared her off.”
“Give her time, man. Junior will reach out to you when she’s ready to talk, don’t worry.”
Jack showed his friend a small smile, patting his shoulder.
“You’re kind of wise at two-thirty in the morning, hu?”
“Call me Trevoda.”
“What is a Trevoda, exactly?”
“Me as Yoda. Duh.” Trevor explained, as if it was obvious.
“Oh, yeah. Definitely, Tr-” the singer stopped himself, a smirk playing on his lips. “Trevoda.”
“Mock me all you want, I may become bigger than Deepak Chopra one day.”
“I’ll hold you to that.”

Y/N Y/L/N wasn’t one to run away. She never turned her back on a challenge or a problem. Nothing made her take a step back, not even the stickiest of situations. The doctor always grabbed the bull by its horns. But the morning after one of her closest friend’s wedding, Y/N felt like the bull had run her over with such violence she swore she had bruises all over her soul. The confusion, the craving of something more, the history she couldn’t rewrite. They all took a toll on a soul that had been nearly crushed years ago and had, since then, wanted nothing more than peace.
The doorbell rung loudly, announcing Cole's arrival. When Y/N called him in the early hours of the morning, Cole could tell by the tone of her voice the conversation they were about to have wasn’t supposed to happen over the phone. Wherever they were, whoever they were with, they had always made sure to be there for each other in times of need, and he assured her he'd come over in the morning with breakfast to discuss whatever had happened at River and David’s wedding.
Rubbing her tired eyes with the back of her hands and looking away from any mirrors or reflective surfaces she crossed paths with on her way to the front of her house, the teacher used the peephole to confirm the people waiting outside were Cole and Olive, her friendholding several paper bags in his hands. She quickly unlocked the door, opening her arms wide to immediately hug the friendly dog.
“How’s my favorite doing today?” Y/N, kissing her head.
“A little bit tired, but I’m okay…" Cole replied, jokingly. "Where’s Jo?”
“She’s still asleep. Let Olivia loose and I bet she'll get her and the pup up."
The blond man did as suggested, telling his faithful partner to go get Joey and Finn.
The coach's daughter turned to him, one eye closed and a lopsided smile on her face.
“Hey.” his friend greeted her, setting the bags he had brought on the floor.
“Hi.” Y/N sighed, being pulled into a tight hug.
The pair stayed like that for what seemed like an eternity, finding comfort in their decade-old friendship. Loud shrieks were heard from the stairwell, letting them know Joey wascoming down to get their sugary breakfast, followed closely by a very excited Olive and Finn. Y/N turned to them, placing both of her hands on her hips.
“I was thinking you could have breakfast in the living room today… Spongebob’s probably on right now… What do you say?”
Joey nodded, smiling up at her mother.
“You’re the best, mommy!” her daughter cheered, hugging her legs.
“Alright, lovebug, come on, let’s get you some food.” she chuckled in response, truing to walk to the kitchen with a five-year-old attached to one of her lower limbs. “Come on Olive. Let's go, Finn."
Leaving the milk carton in the living room for her daughterand handing her a colorful mug, along with the Lucky Charms and donuts Cole had brought, the doctor quickly put the Moka pot on the stove, brewing up the hot beverage to the distant sound of Monday morning cartoons. She then proceeded to go about her normal morning routine, sliding the back door open for her small companion to go outside if needed be.
Her friend watched her attentively, picking up the fried dough confectionery she had been craving for hours from the paper box that rested on the kitchen island and silently devouring it. He knew Y/N coping mechanisms all revolved around keeping herself as busy as she could. She eventually stopped running around the room, leaning against the counter and eating without saying a word.
“I need to paint." the coach's daughter blurted out after a couple of minutes, picking ip her mug and heading upstairs.
“Jesus, Junior.” Cole fretted, going after her.
“What?” she muttered, while washing her face and securing her hair up in a bun.
“You need to tell me what went on last night. Trevor won’t open his mouth for once in his life, you look like you haven’t slept at all and haven’t stopped to talk since I got here."
Y/N took off her pajama shorts and Rolling Stones t-shirt, putting on a sports bra, her old grey sweatshirt, and paint-covered sweatpants, before glancing at her blond friend and gulping down a bit more of her coffee.
“Come outside.” she hummed. “If you need a change of clothes, I have a couple more things I use when I’m painting in my closet. They’re the last ones on the right. They probably fit you.”
Ignoring the owner of the house’s offer, the hockey player treaded behind her, wondering what the hell had happened for Y/N to be this eager to paint just twenty minutes after getting out of bed. Stepping out into the side of the house, where the doctor kept her painting corner, he waited patiently as his friend sorted out the colors and picked up a white canvas, which she set up on her easel.
Y/N bit the inside of her cheek, dipping the tip of her brush on the glass of water beside her, taking a deep breath before finally saying the dreaded words out loud for the first time.
“Jack kissed me last night.”
Cole stood there, his mouth wide open and a huge smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
“God, yes!”
The doctor stopped mixing the colors in the palette, raising an eyebrow. “God, yes? That’s your take on what happened?”
“Well, yeah! I think you two would make a great pair, you already knew that!” her friend replied, observing the way Y/N stroked the paintbrush over the canvas. “What went down next?”
“He said he liked me and he gave me all these reasons why… And I froze, like a complete idiot.” she admitted, not daring to meet Cole's inquisitive eyes.
“You froze?”
“Yeah. And when I could finally move I literally ran off.”
“Oh, Y/N…” the hockey player groaned, covering his face with his hands. “What the hell? Why didn’t you - ”
“You know I can’t, Cole.”
“Why not? Seriously, give me three good reasons why.” she demanded. “You don’t like him?”
“Of course I do. Jack's amazing. But I can’t – I can’t do it again... These past few weeks we’ve been reconnecting, and it’s been wonderful, but I won’t allow it to go any further than a friendship. He just… He just took it too far.”
“Oh, come on! Are you twelve? You like him, he likes you. Give it a go!”
“You know damn well why I’m like this! Did you ever stop to think about what I went through for years while you’re out here fantasizing about a possible relationship between Jack and I? Hu?” the doctor raised her voice, the movements of her brush becoming quicker and more erratic. “I couldn’t speak my mind, I couldn’t spend my money on whatever I wanted, I was estranged form my parents, my friends. My soul was beat down, pushed around and nearly crushed. I was only left with a tiny amount of strength and I had to will myself to use it to ask for a divorce and raise my daughter on my own. I didn’t know who I was anymore. I was a mess! A complete, insecure mess, dependent on another person’s twisted version of love. Do you know what it’s like to be belittled by the person you love? To feel so small you could literally vanish? Thank god Joey was too small to remember the person I was becoming back then… When Jack kissed me, I wanted more and I promised myself not to want more anymore. I am not going to lose sight of who I am. I can’t risk having to go through that much heartache again. I won’t.” she croaked out, her voice shaking with raw emotion.
“Jack isn’t Charlie. You can’t just write about him on your little journal. And pretend like that way you’ll forget what you went through. I know it’s your therapeutic take on these things, but you can’t do that again. You’re still hurting, I know. It takes time, it takes love. You’re so much stronger than you give yourself credit for, you’re so brave. You’ve been through hell and back because of the first man you fully gave your heart to but I won’t let make that the reason why you deny yourself to let love in from this point on. Y/N, you have to give yourself permission to be free. Set yourself free from all the moronic demons from your past, all the voices in your head that make you believe you shouldn’t give a wonderful man a change to make you hap – well, happier.” Cole pleaded, holding his friend by the shoulders, pulling her away from the half-done painting she had managed to work on while pouring her heart out.
Y/N took a moment to let her words sink in.
“I don’t know, Cole. What if- ”
“Life’s too damn short for your what if’s, Y/L/N. I know you feel like you owe Jack an explanation, even though you don’t. If you do decide to talk to him, and you will, because I know you, you should tell him exactly what you told me.”
“How?” she spoke quietly, feeling like she was a little girl again.
“I don’t know… Draw him a picture.”

The Lovers Inverted
Margaery/Sansa
Sansa ought to pity the queen.
When she was young- eleven or twelve- and the news had broke about the Old Queen, the Lannister woman, and how her children had not been the King's at all, and they cut off her head and sent the firstborn son to the Wall and the younger two to the Faith... Sansa had no real recollection of the King, and in her mind he was as her father described him- young and handsome and strong, towering over other men, with curly black hair, bright blue eyes, and a booming laugh.
When she finally does come to court, seven years later, nineteen, and newly married to Harry Arryn, she finds the King is not at all how her father described him. He is hideous. She thought to find him terrifying in a magnetic sort of sense, a proud, dangerous, beautiful monster, willing to kill a wife for cuckolding him and take another, cool as you please. He is fearsome, but more in the sense of a half-starved old shadowcat or lion. His danger is more pathetic and desperate than anything else. She feels a pang of vindictive sympathy for the Old Queen, though she was a traitor and a foul sinner who laid with her own brother. At least the brother got glorious death in combat. Somehow, the men always do, at least the ones anyone bothers to remember. The Queen, they just threw her down and cut off her head.
So she does pity the Old Queen, that's true, and she expects to pity the New Queen, Margaery Tyrell, who was just six-and-ten when she wed the King, and he old enough to be her father, and full of wrath, and hating all women for what his first wife did to him. But Margaery Tyrell, if she was ever a terrified girl of sixteen, dreading a marriage to a man who might be determined to punish her for the misdeeds of another, is no longer that child. She is three years older than Sansa, two-and-twenty, and in her six years as queen consort she has borne Robert three children, just like the Old Queen did, only her children are clearly his, black of hair and blue of eye. Gods preserve her if they were not- even the slightest trace of Tyrell in them might be enough to set him off, Sansa thinks. Like the Old Queen, Queen Magaery is said to be very close with her beautiful brother Loras, and like the Old Queen, he is a member of the Kingsguard, fervently protecting his sister. She wonders if they are ever even allowed to be alone together, despite the rumors about his tastes. But if Margaery is not allowed to be alone with her brothers- any of them- she is allowed to be alone with Sansa. They are on a pleasure barge on the river; the spring sunshine is warm on their upturned faces, someone is plucking at a harp, and a puppy is dozing in Margaery's lap. The serene surroundings are at contrast with the hot anger on her face. "You cannot leave," she says. "Do not tell me such a thing." "Your Grace," says Sansa, pretending at shocked dismay, though she will admit some sick part of her is enjoying this- Harry is lovely, yes, but he doesn't actually seem to care much how she comes or goes or what she does- "You know my lord husband must return to the Eyrie. The mountain clans are emboldened by his absence, and I have to tend to my own household." "Lady Waynwood runs your household," Margaery snaps. "The only thing you need tend to, my lady Arryn, are your duties here. You are not leaving. I will not have it." She could couch it in pleasantries, appeal to Sansa's vanity and ego- she does not. She is brusque and demanding, like her husband. She is- still so beautiful, with those gleaming chestnut curls and big brown eyes- a little bit intimidating. She twists the rings on her fingers in sullen anger. "Would you stop me?" Sansa murmurs. She watches a loon swoop down over the river. "If I tried to leave anyways?" Margaery says nothing. She reaches over and squeezes Sansa's hand, viciously. It hurts. Sansa wants her to soothe the pain with a kiss. She also wants to push that poor harper overboard and make the queen call her by her name, not Harry's. The puppy whines, and rolls over.

no joke tho like putting the homophobic remarks and concerning behavior aside, i found him so cute and endearing YOU CAN HATE ME ALL U WANT BUT I DID!! 😭😭 he won me over the moment he mentioned spider-man 😭
that said, how does fritz see the reader? just asking cuz we mostly saw our pov of the “relationship” and i wanna know what his thoughts are
Yeah Fritz definitely needed therapy for them anger issues😭
Good ask! Fritz hadn’t been in a serious relationship since his ex who cheated on him (with his cousin), and had pointless flings since then, so Reader coming into his life was definitely a breath of fresh air! He’s obviously very clingy and it’s because he’s never really had a strong connection with girls, and once he feels like he has something genuine, he’s scared to lose it. It doesn’t help with the fact that his mom was defo saying stuff like ‘You’re my baby boy/Girls are just after your money, but I’ll find a good one for you etc, so I think he’s got secret mommy issues…
Which leads to Reader, who was in his English class and just really nice to him without fan-girling and stuff. So, since he has these secret issues, he was attracted to Reader’s calm, honest, genuine vibes - Someone who could treat him like a human, rather than a potential trophy husband, and someone he viewed as an equal, rather than a girl he’d have to spoil and baby for the sake of appearances. (He basically doesn’t want the stereotypical jock x spoiled rich girl cheerleader relationship) (Also why he and Cassidy could’ve never dated 💀)
Initially, he was pretty confident about you being together! He was in a cool friend group, and had someone mature and different (with Reader not being from Utah), which is why he was so desperate for you to meet his family.
But, when Michael started being more of a friend than an enemy to you, he definitely got upset, especially knowing that you babysat his siblings, which meant you could spend more time with him. I imagine Cassidy had mentioned something in an offhand comment about Reader/Michael having chemistry/Reader liking him, and it upset him because you weren’t his focus. His ego was definitely bruised, since he’s used to getting what he wants, and that’s when the macho/toxic masculine side started coming out, and he got more aggressive. (He also didn’t like the fact that Michael was lying to you about the Bite)
EDIT: Cassidy would’ve probably said it out of spite 💀 She and Fritz are definitely frenemies
I imagine at the time Reader broke up with him, he was already on edge and didn’t want to accept that the relationship was over, and was genuinely really upset about it (whether he was upset with himself, we’ll never know). Showing off his sister and *almost* trying to convince you with sex was his final attempts before he lost it…And then his life💀
Overall, he definitely loved you, but saw you as a means of ‘fixing’ his life (perfect family, perfect gf, perfect life etc) and because he’s just a rich, attractive jock at the end of the day, he was his own downfall. He’s kinda delusional though so he’d probably say something like “I’ll get her back😏😎”

Season 2, Episode 6: the need for speed caper for @csweekly
I simultaneously love and hate this episode. It’s an excellent showcase of Ivy and Zack and it ends so well. But it highkey gives me secondhand embarrassment. It’s what makes it excellent but man do I find it hard to watch Zack going off the deep end here.
I continue to be obsessed with how VILE works in general. Coach Brunt has a BEST FRIEND. THE others REACTION to her though is the most Hilarious. They are so unenthusiastic. Just that little “hello”. Just. There is so much That separates Brunt from the Faculty in an obvious way. Just every opportunity they have she’s completely in another world as the other three. And Shadowsan WAS different but he blended in Dhchchcg. I feel like I’m on the tip of analysis here. It must be intentional. I just don’t know if Brunt was meant to eventually get some sort of redemption or if she doesn’t and that was the point.
And lol Neal foreshadowing.
This season I love that we are introduced to a lot of the senior operatives: Cookie is part of a caper, the Mechanic, Lady Dokuso, Roundabout. It really gives VILE so much more depth to show how they keep running. What is interesting to me, is that the current Faculty was so young when Black Sheep arrived. It makes me wonder. Has VILE been ongoing for a thousand years continuously? Or did the current Faculty revitalize it? Modernize it. I want to know how all of the Faculty became Faculty. We’re they all students at one point like Shadowsan? (Which is a whole other can of worms can we assume that VILE has partnerships with criminal organizations all over the world? The yakuza seem cool sending one of their most talented young members to school and Lady Dokuso seems to have kept ties)
This NUGGET of info on how the team spends their plane rides. We are blessed to have Ivy and Zack.
Listen, as an adult I feel very viscerally Shadowsan stopping. Taking a deep breath to ground himself. And grunting in disapproval.
Then Carmen saves the day!!! Listen I think this was planned. Carmen is very aware that Player is not Shadowsan’s biggest fan. Carmen has to acknowledge that it’s 95% her fault that he feels this way. Player knows that Carmen knows this. They talk. They’re open with each other.. BUT put yourself in Carmen’s shoes. How desperately must she want her very best friend to approve of Shadowsan. Who she regards as a parental figure. She must want so badly for the two of them to get along. This, I feel, is the root of why Carmen wants Shadowsan to stay behind. Certainly he could have chatted with Player on the plane? They’re the two most important people in her life. Carmen wants them to like each other. So bonding time. Though Shadowsan learning their operations is an important thing as well as decoding the hard drive. From the way Player is already on video chat on Carmen’s phone and he’s ALREADY grumpy, he and Carmen had this conversation about what was going to go down before informing Shadowsan.
Please I would have given my left leg for Shadowsan to actually go to Player’s house. The PANIC on Players face.
IVYS EYE ROLL. Specifically at Zack gagging one second and drooling the next. That is peak sister energy.
I love knowing she’s the Driver upon rewatch. That was so well done by the writing team.
Trey puts on his cocky airs. But. This is key. He still remembers Zack and Ivy. Considering we are about to meet his dad, I wonder if this isn’t the first time that Zack and Ivy have been spoken of fondly in his own home.
I’m a Duke and Ivy’s a rocket scientist. 😂😂😂
The Driver looks SO ANGUISHED.
This part is so hard for me to watch, I hate seeing Zack so bothered and angry when he’s usually not. Especially since it’s usually Ivy who is on guard. So it’s striking to see the situation switched and Ivy letting it all roll off her shoulders. And especially when Carmen yells at them. The fact that they were late in meeting her was really nice foreshadowing for it though.
Okay also interesting that Carmen isn’t *upset* until Zack and Ivy are caught. This…parallels interestingly with VILE’s “failure is forgivable, capture is not”. I wonder if that was ingrained in her on the island?
OH I think so! All Shadowsan says is that she needs better help than amateurs. And she defends Zack and Ivy in that moment. And out if the blue mentions no HQ? She loves Ivy and Zack because they’re everything VILE isn’t. I think…I think that Carmen wants to show Shadowsan how good her team is. She wants him to be impressed with all of them. And she’s angry because Zack and Ivy did themselves no favors (though Zack’s the one at fault). Urgh. “Not a good time” for Shadowsan to check in. Carmen was hoping to smooth it over after the fact but she’s holding to her end of the bargain of “no secrets”. I’m losing my mind this episode all goes back to Carmen distancing herself from VILE. That’s the real reason she’s mad at Ivy and Zack.
Shadowsan’s at least impressed with Player. CoNFIRMiNG that Player is Carmen’s secret weapon my mind is going nuts what must he be thinking. “I’m sure glad we didn’t know about him when I was Faculty”
THEYRE more upset about letting Carmen down 😭😭😭
I LOVE this subplot to the episode. It increases the stakes so much. Ivy and Zack have a legit job offer from a guy who has no problem outright saying they are family. Carmen at this point hasn’t said it herself and Zack’s attempts to bond with Shadowsan have been, as Ivy says, embarrassing. At this point they are at their lowest and Carmen’s mad? Yeah the script does an excellent job to really make the audience wonder if they’ll take up Mr Sterling on his offer. It’s a 1:1 trade off. Crime fighting or racing. That’s what this episode becomes about. And for Carmen there’s a choice too. Her team has changed. What changes does she need to make.
The separation of the team for even one night kills me emotionally. Carmen just isn’t good with being vulnerable. She confides in Player the next morning that she hopes she didn’t run them off. Player is interestingly neutral. He doesn’t support or condemn either side. He kinda just. Guides Carmen in telling her that she was direct. She’s not in danger, so he doesn’t intervene. Gives her the freedom to figure things out. Because VILE didn’t let her have that.
Okay this is such cool emotional maturity from Ivy? She acknowledges correctly that Carmen doesn’t hate them?? Okay so that’s a fic concept I can run with. I wonder if Ivy’s been talking to Player? They likely collaborate a lot so wouldn’t be surprised if their conversations drift to “is Carmen okay?”
THE STIG?????
Zack, are you telling me that you don’t have race car boxers?
Ivy spends this whole episode assuring Zack and the audience that Carmen does not hate them. And she gets vindicated in the end. I think I’m appreciative for what that is now. Because this is for younger viewers it’s good to reinforce that. Refreshing honestly. It could have been even worse miscommunication. But it shows that the team was close even before this. Ivy wouldn’t be so certain otherwise. Proves they’re family.
Legit car chase scene. EPIC.
Carmen is THIS close to having a Chase Devineaux moment and I’m mildly sad we didn’t get it. I guess that was last episode.
“Look, I think you know you’re more than just my crew” GIVE ME ALL of the in between caper gossip sessions and fun times PLEASE. I can only read between the lines so much. But also again Carmen not being emotionally vulnerable. She says she loves them indirectly here, but the message is clear in her actions. Zack and Ivy jumped in to continue to help despite her yelling at them. Carmen takes them along no questions asked. RIP Ivy and heights
Ivy and Zack response to facing a senior VILE agent excellent and fearful. Meanwhile Carmen literally is bored waiting lol
Lol! The Driver was gonna right the blimp but Carmen’s all “I’m the main character and good guy I’m gonna save the day here”
Ivy thinks of the plan the same time as Zack and she’s still terrified out of her wits during the execution
Awww Carmen apologizes in her own way. “Pro moves”
“Who were they?” WHY HAS VILE nOT SCOUTED Zack and Ivy???? There should be FILES and background checks VILE could know everything about them and use it against the team.
The warehouse scene is SUCH a good fake out. It was set up so well.
Midnight calls to room service. They tease the bonding moments so much. Give me all the fics.
