My dorky British man!! I love u <3
Tumblr media
Summary: The reader and Will continue to share some flirty dialogue and grow closer. Something that piques Don's interest the more that he see's the pair interact.
Tumblr media
The hotel lobby is bustling with people checking in and out of their rooms. You file into the lobby with, Hobbs, Konosuke, Kyle, and Will behind you. Don is off on some business and won't be back with the group until next week in a new city. And Callis has left you in charge of the group in his absence.
"Okay! Dynamite is at eight, like usual." You glance down at your watch briefly. "So I want everyone in the arena and ready for the show by 6:30 by the latest. Got it?" You take the time to look at each man in front of you. "Other than that? I don't care what y'all get up to. Me personally? I'm headed up to my room to relax for a few hours."
"I'm putting my bags away then hitting the gym." Hobbs is the first one to speak up.
"Yeah, me too." Konosuke agrees.
Kyle looks up from his phone, a sly grin on his face. "I've got a date with my girl in an hour." He explains.
You nod and watch Will and Konosuke walk off since the two of them are sharing a room. Kyle goes back to texting on his phone and walks off as well, which leaves you with Will.
"What about you, Will?" You turn to Ospreay. "No gym before the show?" You ask him.
"Nah, I hit the gym before the plane ride." Will shakes his head. "Hanging out in the hotel room sounds lovely though. Care for some company?" He grins cheekily at you.
You roll your eyes playfully and pick your bag back off up the floor by your feet. "Sure, why not." You shrug. "You're buying me lunch though. Because I am starving." You joke with a laugh.
"Of course!" Will grins and grabs his bags as well. "My pleasure, love. What are you in the mood for?" He asks as the two of you head to the elevator.
You shrug again and step into the elevator while brainstorming lunch idea's. You and Will go your separate ways for a few minutes to put your bags away in your rooms. You head into your room and set down your bags before taking a seat on the edge of your bed and checking your phone. You promised that you'd give Don a call once everyone landed and made it to the hotel.
"Don? Hey, yeah we made it to the hotel." You dial Don's number and don't have to wait long for him to answer.
"YN!" Don is quick to reply. "Good to hear! And what is everyone up to before the show?" He asks you.
You hold your phone against your ear with your shoulder and pull off your shoes. "Umm, Konosuke and Will are headed to the gym." You explain. "And Kyle has a date with his girlfriend." You add.
"Okay." Don replies. "And what about Ospreay?" He asks you.
You get your shoes off and go back to holding your phone normally when a knock sounds at the door. "Oh! That should be him right now!" You perk up and head for the door. "Will and I are getting lunch and resting up before the show."
"Just you and Ospreay?" Don coughs, suspicion in his tone. "Alone in your hotel room all afternoon?" He questions you.
"Yes, Don." You roll your eyes and answer the door. "Hey, Will. I'm just checking in with Don, make yourself at home." You let Ospreay inside the room and shut the door behind him. "I've got it all under control, Don. Okay?" You assure him. "I'll call you again before the show and check in."
Don goes to make another comments, but you hang up the phone and toss it onto your bed. Your phone bounces around before you jump after it and settle onto your bed. Will takes a seat at the edge of the bed and scoots up so he's sitting next to where you're lounging.
"Did the princess decide what she'd like for lunch?" Will looks down at you with a goofy smile.
"I'm kind of feeling a good burger? What about you?" You suggest and prop yourself up onto an elbow.
Will nods and fishes his phone out of the pocket of his grey sweats. "Sounds good. Got any place in mind?" He asks you.
You bite the inside of your cheek in thought and remember a really good burger place in the city that you've eaten at before. "Oh! I know a really good place downtown!" You reach forward with your free hand and pluck Will's phone out of his hand.
"Hey!" Will whines as his phone slips out of his hand.
"Here it is!" You stick your tongue out at Will playfully before quickly looking up the burger joint on his phone. "This is the place!" You hand his phone back to him.
Will takes his phone back and scrolls through the website menu for a minute. "Oh, this all looks good, yeah." He nods his head. "What do you want?" He asks you and pulls up the order page on the site.
You rattle off your order and Will types it in before picking something for himself. He places the order before discarding his phone on the bed next to him.
"Delivery says 20 minutes, give or take of course." Will informs you. "So. What are we going to spend our afternoon doing then?" He turns toward you with a suggestive smile.
"Well I plan on enjoying a meal then catching up on some work emails." You reply with a laugh. "Feel free to lounge around and look pretty though." You wink at Will playfully.
Will chuckles and scoots closer to you. "Oh, so you think I'm pretty then, do ya, love?" He teases you.
"You're pretty easy on the eyes, yeah." You giggle. "But I'm sure that you're more than aware of that." You add.
Will shrugs, a playful smile still playing on his face. "A little, maybe." He laughs with you. "I bet that we'd make one hell of a power couple. Wouldn't we?" He asks you.
You laugh at Will's statement, remembering Don's words a few weeks ago. "You know? Don said the same thing to me a few weeks ago." You shake your head.
"Did he now?" Will perks up. "Does that mean Callis is giving us his blessing then?" He asks you.
"His blessing?" You reply. "Will, sweetie. I don't need permission from anyone when it comes to my love life." You set a hand on his chest.
Will's gaze flits down to your hand on his chest before it returns to your face. You notice his eyes linger on your lips before he starts to slowly lean in toward you.
Before Will can close the gap, someone knocks on the door. Will lets out a groan and you laugh as he slips off the bed and trudges across the room to answer the door.
"Yeah, mate?" Will answers the door in a grumpy tone.
"I have an order here for Will?" A deliver guy stands on the other side of the door with a large bag in his hand.
Will nods and reaches into his sweats pocket for his wallet. He hands a few bills over for a tip and takes the bag from the delivery guy. You slide off the bed and walk over to the small table set up in the room. Will shuts the door behind him after muttering a quick thanks and walks the food over to you at the table.
You take the bag from Will who then sits down next to you. You divvy up the food and dig into your meal. The burger and fries are just as good as the last time you ordered from this place. A bit messier than a normal burger, but delicious nonetheless. And despite his poutiness from his earlier interruption, Will seems to enjoy his meal as well.
"Wow." You muse after you've finished eating. "That was just as good as last time. Maybe even a bit better if I'm being honest." You admit and begin cleaning up your napkins and wrappers in front of you.
"This was really good, yeah." Will agrees, also finishing up his meal. "You've got a little something right in the corner of your mouth though." He points to his own mouth for reference.
You reach up with a napkin and attempt to clean yourself up. But your attempt only earns a chuckle from Will. "What?" You narrow your eyes at him.
"Here, let me." Will reaches forward with a napkin in hand and swipes your bottom lip gently with it. "There." He smiles to himself, his gaze once again fixed on your lips.
Your heart skips a beat as Will attempts to lean in and close the gap between the two of you again. But this time there's no pesky delivery man to get in his way.
Ospreay closes the gap between the two of you, his hand delicately holding your chin as he presses his lips to yours in a sweet kiss. You pull back from him after a moment and shake your head.
"What's wrong?" A look of worry crosses Will's face as he realizes that he might have just made a huge mistake.
"I hate it when Don is right. Smug bastard." You laugh to yourself before leaning back toward Will.
Will chuckles to hide the relief written all over his face and grabs your arm gently. Ospreay pulls you gently out of your seat and swiftly into his lap. You giggle and card your hands through his mess of curly as his hands run up your back, your shirt riding up with them.
Ospreay kisses your hard, pulling your body into his as much as he can with you straddling him in this cheap dining chair. Neither of you hear the knock at the door, or it opening seconds later when no-one answers it.
"Hey, YN, I was meaning to ask you-OH!" Kyle comes through the door with a shocked look on his face. "Nevermind. I can came back later. Carry on." He is quick to turn right back around and shut the door behind him.
You lean back in Will's lap, his hands on your back keeping you from tipping back out of the chair. You laugh, hands set on Will's shoulders. "Whoops." You muse. "How long before you think he's on the phone with Don snitching on us?" You joke with Will.
"Oh, he's most definitely on the phone right now." Will laughs with you before leaning up for another kiss. "Now. Why don't we move this to someplace a little more comfortable?" He suggests as he rises to his feet with you in his arms.
"I could use a change of scenery, yeah." You giggle and wrap your legs around his waist. "You should probably lock the door though. I'm not to keen on being interrupted again. Are you?"
Will cracks a larger-than-life smile and drops you onto your back. You fall back onto your bed and watch him sprint toward the door and lock it before turning back to you. Will grins and pulls his shirt over his head as he stalks back over to you.
You can only imagine the I-told-you-so that you are going to get from Don the next time you talk with him. But damn will it have been worth it.

its me again 🤪 i was wondering if you could do aew boys reaction to you getting attacked by your tag team partner exp: you guys lost a tag match and you partner attacks you i hope i explained well🫶🏼🩷
I GOTCHUUUU
AEW Stars React to: You Being Attacked By Your Tag Partner
Pairings: Hook X Reader, Eddie Kingston X Reader, Daniel Garcia X Reader, Darius Martin X Reader, Kenny Omega X Reader, MJF X Reader, Ricky Starks X Reader
Word Count: 1K
Supreme Speaks: thanks to @cassiesworldsworld for requesting (keep em coming)! Reader is gender-neutral in this. nothing else...I hope you all are doing well and please remember that you are loved and appreciated
Warnings: Nun, barely proofread, GIFS ARE NOT MINE
Taglist: @cassiesworldsworld @hooks-martin @hookerforhook @wwenhlimagines @triscillal @sheinthatfandom @eddie-kingstons-wifey
Okay, I have 3 options for this (Reader is gender-neutral applicable to anyone; your partner is of your choosing):
Either you lose via roll-up and are attacked immediately after the match (Bayley attacks Sasha Banks)
After the match, you were attacked by your tag partner who joins the enemy (Luchasaurus attacks Jungle Boy and joins with Christian Cage)
Y’all lost the match, get a standing ovation, and your partner attacks you after you guys hug (Tommaso Ciampa attacks Johnny Gargano)
Bottomline is you were attacked and now your significant other/best friend is angry
Hook
Tumblr media
Mans is big mad; like big big mad
You thought he was trying to whip Jack’s ass? Wait until he sees you get attacked
Man will jump over your body real quick to try to punch your former tag partner (if they are a male)
^^might get a heart attack to be honest from him leaping
Will immediately carry backstage as your former tag partner runs to the back
Is simmering with anger as you try to convince you’re okay
“I’m happy that you’re okay. I just really wanna kill that son of a bitch”
Does not take this matter lightly, especially after Jack betraying him
If you wanna get your lick back, just let him and he’ll take care of everything
Ricky Starks
Tumblr media
Just like Hook, he would take this shit so seriously (cause of Hobbs betraying him)
But also I feel like he would understand the former partner’s stance as he betrayed Brian Cage (ew)
Will comfort you as you have multiple emotions running through your mind
“They’re missing out on a friendship with a bombass, beautiful, fierce, strong, athletic, and great person….and you too.”
I think he would be the type to transform you (ring gear, style, promos) so you can show your former partner that you’re simply better (nail emoji)
Like I’m talking early 2000s movie montage
Ricky would definitely help you plan your revenge
Overall, I believe this man would help you get back on your feet
Darius Martin
Tumblr media
His heart would break for you and would be the one to sprint out to help you out of the ring and up the ramp
Darius is a very loyal person as he frequently rotates between AR Fox, Matt Sydal, his brother, and Action Andretti for tag partner
Will always offer a place on his team for you
“You know you always got me and the boys.”
Will take his thoughts to Twitter just to shit on them
I also think Darius will make it his mission to make sure that you were well taken care of; advises you to choose peace before violence
But if too much violence takes place; he’s walking out with a steel chair and zero fucks to give
Eddie Kingston
Tumblr media
THIS MAN??? HE DOESNT CARE WHO THEY ARE; THEY’RE GETTING THEIR ASS CHEWED UP, SPAT OUT, AND BEAT TF UP
Will again blame Claudio, Bryan, and Punk for everything (don’t let him find out they joined BCC)
I think he would take this more personally than you, especially if they joined with his enemies
“FUCK THAT LOW DOWN, SLIMY, SWISS CHEESE BITCH! AND BRYAN TOO, THAT TECHNICAL ASS BITCH! I’ll stab them dawg don’t worry”
Eddie is the type to ride or die for his people; so he is one of the first people to stand with you against the traitor
Is absolutely down for revenge or crazy plans
“I still got that gasoline can if you need dawg.”
Daniel Garcia
Tumblr media
Will immediately offer you a place in JAS (like I always say, PLEASE say NO)
But also with the way JAS is right now, he would take time to team with you; so he can also find peace
Will be smug toward your former teammate
“Listen here, Y/N is a talented person and you’re gonna wish you didn’t cross them.” Dances away
Like stated earlier, I think he would take this time to fully understand his position with his own teammates
Daniel would be your #1 cheerleader on Twitter and tag them in various posts shitting on them (like Darius)
Will give you advice on how to carry on and will try to convince you to be a sports entertainer
MJF
Tumblr media
THIS MOTHERFUCKER
Always had a feeling that it was coming, but he wouldn’t tell you and is angry with the entire situation
Has to keep in character on Twitter:
“Look, I understand that Y/N loses a lot, isn’t as good as me, and has terrible taste in tag partners but that doesn’t mean you had to dump em!”
Will lecture about how you shouldn’t really trust anyone but yourself in the business, but empathizes with you (if he can) about having friends and supportive people
Like Daniel, might take this time to reflect
Will devise a revenge plan that involves sabotaging your former tag partner’s plans/goals
“Babe, I’m the devil. I can make anything happen.”
Kenny Omega
Tumblr media
Like most people on this list, Kenny has experienced being on both sides of this situation; so he completely understands the feelings involved
Will offer you a spot in the Elite (that can go either way)
I think because of the fact that he has a lot going on with himself, he would let you do whatever you want
Is more emotional support than physical support at the moment
Will help further the storyline of your revenge and character development on BTE
Outta all the people on this list, he would give you the best advice
“I think you need to take some time for yourself and see what is in the future for you…and if the answer is revenge, make sure you have money aside for bail…for me.”

Jealous songbird
Pairing: lucy gray x Fem!reader
Warning: just Lucy gray being a jealous cutie! It’s bad written so sorry
————————————————————————-
Lucy Gray was a sweet, kind, ray of sunshine kinda girl but when it came to you, oh boy could she be jealous.
You were always bubbly, a bit naive and so in love with Lucy that you never had eyes for anyone else but as you two were in the hobb where Lucy gray was performing with the covey, you couldn’t shake the feeling of eyes burning in your back. ‘Hey sweetcheeks, lonely tonight?’ A man asked as he came up to you. You felt a bit uncomfterable by his present and the smell of his breath didn’t do good to it but as always you didn’t want to be rude so you just answered in your bubbly tone, ‘oh no i’m here to watch my…’ as i was about to tell him about Lucy Gray he interrupted with an drunkely laugh wich made my stomach turn. ‘You know what hot stuff, let’s go back to my place and have some fun’ he tried to take my hand but was suddenly pushed back. ‘Sorry frank, guess you have to find another one or just…have some manners will you.’ A voice said and when i looked over a young girl, probably the age of lucy gray appeared. She had dirty blond hair and her figure was pretty athletic, ‘get lost Yelena, i know you didn’t had a good fuck in forever but leave me alone!’ The man snapped at the girl. She laughed sweetly but there was a hint of threatening, ‘look Frankie, i warned you but if you think i was level 10…wait for her girlfriend.’ Yelena pointed to me and i felt akward. ‘Yelena is right Frank, better get your ass away and stick your dick in a tree before i smack you with my guitar.’ I heard a familiar voice and a small smile formed on my face. ‘I would apriciate if you step away from MY girlfriend because if you don’t do it, we can talk outside buddy..’ lucy gray wrapped an arm around my waist and i saw this sparkle in her eyes, i’ve never seen her like this. She kissed my temple and i felt safe in her embrace, ‘oh so your baird’s little bitch? Explaines a lot!’ The man laughed and i could feel the grip tightening on my hips. ‘Oh buddy, i’ll tell you a little secret here. I know 23 ways to either kill you with 2 fingers or break your pathetic 265 bones in that…body of yours, don’t test my patience here Frank cause you think you can look, touch or even breath on my girlfriend your very very wrong. So be wise now buddy and go fuck a tree.’ Lucy said and she stepped in front of me, she might be small and her figure might be very elegant but damn… if i was that man i would have pooped my pants 6 times already by now. The man scoffed and started to back away, walking towards the door but suddenly yelena yelled something. ‘Oi Frank, if i ever see you again in my bar, the capitol and Lucy Gray won’t be the only things you should be scared of then.’ He stuck his middle finger in the air and vanished. ‘Are you okay my love?’ She turned to me and i nodded, the hard and possesive look was gone and instead the soft and caring Lucy was back. ‘I am but dang…your hot when you are possesive songbird..’ i said shyly and Lucy Gray chuckled, ‘what is mine is mine and dour buddy frank just needed a reminder’ she smiled and i crashed our lips togehter. The taste of strawberries and forest berries on her lips was addicting and as i wanted to deepen the kiss, yelena cleared her throat. ‘Not to be rude or anything…but ehm your still in the hobb wich means, keep your hand of each other you horny weirdo’s’ i giggled at yelena’s comment and turned into lucy gray’s embrace so she hugged me from behind. ‘Hey eh thank you, for sticking up…i’m pretty sure Frank will never talk to a girl again if you two are around’ i snickered and the girls smiled, ‘wasn’t that the goal yel?’ Lucy said with a smirk. ‘Defenitly! But imma go back to selling drinks now, have a goodnight ladies’ she winked and walked back to the bar where probably 4 drunken man were hanging half asleep. ‘I love you songbird, i need to make you jealous in the bedroom, your hot!’ I smirked and we swayed to the soft music that was playing, lucy gray smiled and hummed as she rested her chin on my shoulder. ‘I’ll always protect you moonshine, even if i have to break my guitar on some weirdo’s head. I love you truly Moonshine’ she said and just like that we danced the night away.
A/N: kinda liked this idea, i know it is bad written but hey at least i threw some yelena belova shit in there…i guess.

I was thinking about the multiple contradictory narratives Bedelia spins about herself in s3 part 2 - the way her public story completely excises her agency in collaborating with Hannibal, while the version of events she presents to Will, in which she gloats about having been “beyond the veil” when he has not, also completely excises her ambivalence and fear towards Hannibal. (Like, she confidently presents a narrative to Will in which she shared the perfect understanding with Hannibal that he craves, and wherein she has embraced the violent impulses in a way that his compassion has impeded him from doing. And yet she spends so much of s3 part 1 positively radiating stress and discomfort. And that contrast is fascinating to me in itself.)
And then I started thinking about the bird metaphor.
Bedelia uses the wounded bird example to frame Will as being held back from being a true killer by his compassion and concern for the weak. But in reality, it represents the appeal that violence holds for both of them. Will’s desire to protect the vulnerable is the source of not only his violent urges, but the pleasure he takes in hurting those who hurt others - this is most obvious in the social worker horse plot line, in which his care for Peter ignites his murderous anger towards Clark Ingram, and also comes through in his enjoyment of killing Randall Tier and his fantasies about killing Hannibal. The fundamental tension in his character arc - whether the righteous anger he feels for the vulnerable will overwhelm his compassion, such that the pleasure of violence swallows up its initial motivation - is reflected in the fact that many of the killers he can identify with do feel a kind of twisted compassion for their victims. Garett Jacob Hobbs, for example, his identification with whom Will struggles with considerably, is said to “love” his victims. For Hannibal himself, violence and love are also incredibly bound up.
Bedelia is different. Her desire to crush the bird tends to manifest as a sort of twisted mercy killing, as with Neal Frank and Sogliato. (Interestingly, her and Will’s violent impulses, at least on a surface level, feel like an extreme and twisted reflection of their professions - Will’s job is to bring justice, and hers is to provide medical care). Hannibal knows this about her, and explicitly sets her up to kill Sogliato (“technically, you killed him”). He knew she would flinch at his suffering and need to squelch it out. And while it’s not stated one way or another, it’s entirely possible (perhaps probable) that he purposely set her up with Neal Frank, because he was curious what she would do.
(In Tome-wan, Hannibal tries to push Will to mercy kill Mason Verger in the same way during the “he fed his face to my dogs” scene, possibly working from his experiences with Bedelia - but of course Will’s not built that way.)
The thing with Bedelia’s mercy killing, though, is that despite her being the one to voice the line about compassion being necessary for cruelty, her motivation seems to be nearly devoid of compassion. Rather, my reading is that she operates more from discomfort, and disgust. She’s repelled by weakness and suffering. When she sees a wounded bird, she wants to get rid of it, crush out its suffering so she doesn’t have to look anymore. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t get genuine pleasure from the violence, but the violence we see from her feels reactive.
And that’s possibly the biggest difference between her and Hannibal, and the source of the gulf between them. Because Hannibal relishes vulnerability. See the way he affectionately rubs his head against Miriam Lass’ as he chokes her unconscious, the way he keeps Gideon alive for an extended period of time so he can experience Hannibal’s work, the way he treats Bedelia herself with care despite their both knowing he’s working up towards eating her. It’s not just about the kill for Hannibal - it’s drawing the victim’s reactions out and enjoying the thrill of power he has over them, and it’s a process that in many cases seems to instill a strange, twisted tenderness in him.
This brings me back to Will and the wounded bird, because his desire to “help” the bird doesn’t just extend towards his penchant for violent punitive justice - it’s also the way he comes to see killing itself as a way of honouring the victims by making them into art. He wants to linger with their vulnerability, spool it out and spin it into something beautiful, and it’s through this that he can connect with Hannibal. But can you imagine Bedelia stopping to turn Chiyoh’s prisoner into a sculpture? Of course not. She can’t linger with her victims after their deaths - she panics after killing Neal Frank, and is sickened by Hannibal’s actions in Antipasto. She can’t see the artistry in death the way Will and Hannibal can. Violence compels her, but pain and suffering are ugly to her. To Will and Hannibal, they’re beautiful.

September Reading and Reviews by Maia Kobabe
I post my reviews throughout the month on Storygraph and Goodreads, and do roundups here and on patreon. Reviews below the cut.
The Princess and the Grilled Cheese by Deya Muniz
Lady Camembert is the only child of Count Camembert, but as a daughter she cannot inherit unless she marries. She refuses, and after her father's death takes up a different life in the capital city, far from her hometown: she pretends to be the male heir to her father's title. This feels like the perfect solution, except then she meets Princess Brie, and as feelings begin to develop between them, Cam despairs that her secret identity means she can never be anything more than friends with the Princess. This is a beautifully drawn book, sweet and silly, full of cheese puns and historical anachronisms.
The Yakuza’s Bias vol 1 by Teki Yatsuda
Yakuza member Ken Kanashiro's life is changed when the daughter of the clan leader he works for takes him along to a kpop concert. Ken is moved by the kpop idol group's commitment, hard work, passion, and loyalty to each other and their fans. His introduction to fandom, and new social media friends, bring a breath of fresh air into his violent and dangerous life... and like most fervent fans, he starts trying to convince the people around him to stan the group to greater or lesser success. This manga series is very much in the same tone as Way of the House Husband but I appreciated the slightly longer chapters and the growing ensemble cast. It's a silly concept but with moments of genuine feeling as it shows how loving something can connect you to a whole new community.
Of Thunder and Lightning by Kimberly Wang
This is a beautiful, meta deconstruction of battle-robot manga; it plays with POV, with format, and theme. Two corporate nations struggle for dominance in a ruined world. Each spreads propaganda about the other; each has developed a pop-star like AI robot avatar, which battle each other in televised combat with custom costumes and snappy catch phrases. These robots, Magni and Dimo, exist only to destroy each other, but also find in each other their only equal. They both savor their violent encounters, but both are pushed by their creators and handlers to destroy the other. The story is half devastating elegance, half tongue-in-cheek satire. This title is most easily available through the publisher's website and I highly recommend it.
Blackward by Lawrence Lindell
Four friends, Lika, Amor, Lala, and Tony, bonded in a bookclub over being Black, queer, weird and punk. They clearly see the need for a community space for folks like themselves, but struggle with how and where to build that space. After their first attempt is ruined by trolls, they ask for guidance from a local bookstore owner and zine fest organizer. So the idea for the Blackward Zine Fest is born, an event to showcase creativity, make new connections, and maybe even find dates. This book doesn't shy away from the negative sides of existing and creating as a minority in public, but it is also a celebration of friendship and community and the power of comics!
Assassin’s Quest by Robin Hobb read by Paul Boehmer
What an exciting, explosive end to this trilogy! Fitz starts this book as low as a man can be, having returned from near death, with nearly every person who has ever known him believing him dead. He has to learn how to be human again, and learn how to care, and figure out his plans now that he has hypothetical total freedom. But the Red Ships are still pounding the Six Duchies shores, and Regal has withdrawn the strength and wealth of the Duchies inland. Verity is still missing on his endless quest. The beginning drags a little, but after the mid point of this book it is CONSTANT action and adventure, with so many twists and turns, and such a payoff at the end. If you like high fantasy, I highly recommend this series, and I'm so glad I chose to revisit it this summer.
I Thought You Loved Me by Mari Naomi
This is a long, thoughtful look at a friendship breakup, told through prose, letters, diary excerpts, collage, and comics. Mari met Jodie in high school where they bonded as rebellious teens seeking freedom from parental and academic rules. They loved the same music, both dropped out of school, and moved in the same circle of Bay Area folks for years. They were best friends- until Jodie cut Mari out of her life suddenly and unexpectedly. Years later, Mari was still trying to piece together what had happened, from lies, misunderstandings, secrets, affairs, communications lost in transit or responded to by the wrong recipient. Friendship breakups can be equally as devastating as romantic breakups- sometimes even more, as there's no societal norms on how to mourn them, and because we often expect friends to remain in our lives forever. This memoir was honest about how memory fades, how easy it can be to remember only the good or only the bad of a person colored through a specific lens, but also hopeful about the possibility of reconnection. No memoir is over while it's characters still live, and this one took more twists and turns than I was expecting! Beautiful and thought provoking.
Enemies by Svetlana Chmakova
This fourth installment in the Berrybrook series is just as charming and warmhearted as the previous volumes. This one focuses on Felicity, an artist who struggles with time management and deadlines, and with comparisons to her hyper-organized, science-fair winning younger sister. Wanting to prove herself, Felicity joins a competition for kid entrepreneurs. But coming up with a winning idea proves more difficult than she expected, especially when her partner keeps suggesting completely impossible ideas. Also, one of her best friends from elementary school stopped talking to her and now glares daggers at Felicity and she has no idea why. It's hard to keep your head up in middle school with all of the swirling emotions, homework, personal projects, and still maintain high scores in the most popular new online multi-player combat game. But Felicity has the love and support of her family- all she has to do is be willing to ask for help.
Skip by Molly Mendoza
The art in this book is absolutely gorgeous, and the page layouts are stunning. The story opens with a child, Bloom, and a nonbinary adult, Bee, surviving in a post apocalyptic world. But Bee goes off to help a stranger and then Bloom falls through an Alice-in-Wonderland like rabbit hole into multiple different trippy, strange settings were they are generally much tinier than all the other inhabitants. There's a nice through line about friendship and trusting yourself, but ultimately I found the story too ungrounded and loose to have a deep emotional impact.
Alexander, The Servant and The Water of Life book 1 by Reimena Yee
I am so impressed by the scope, artistic skill, and inventiveness of this work! The author weaves together multiple, at times conflicting, tales of Alexander the Great. It's drawn in rich colors and a wide variety of styles, many of which reference specific historical manuscript traditions from medieval European to Islamic to East Asian. I love the way the flashbacks are worked into the frame narrative, I love the shifting art styles, I am awed by the size of this project. And you can read most of this first volume online for free here on the author's website.
Ocean’s Echo by Everina Maxwell read by Raphael Corkhill
This is a creative and gripping follow up to Winter's Orbit. Set in the same larger universe but focusing on a new set of main characters in a new sector of space, this extremely slow burn romance is satisfyingly dense with military and political intrigue. Tennal is the nephew of the Legislator of Orshun; he's also a Reader, or someone who can telepathically read the emotions and surface thoughts of the people around him; he's also the black sheep of his family, a party boy and general fuck up. His aunt forces him into an army position with the intention of having him permanently mind-linked to an Architect, a soldier with the flip side of Tennal's skill- the ability to control people's minds. Tennal is horrified and begins to think of every possible way he can avoid this fate. But much larger forces are at play around him, from the mystery of a semi-destroyed scientific lab relocated in the middle of chaotic space, lies about the creation of Readers and Architects, and a coup in the making. This book is heavier on the sci-fi elements than the relationship progression, but that suited me just fine and I look forward to hopefully reading more installments in this series!
Sunshine by Jarrett J Krosoczka
When author Jarrett Krosoczka was in high school he had the opportunity to volunteer for a week at a camp for kids with cancer, their siblings, and parents. Jarrett had no idea what to expect, but he packed his sketchbook and an open mind. The experience changed his outlook forever. He had his own problems back home: a family affected by addiction and absent parents which lead to him being raised by his grandparents. But in the company of children facing life-threatening illnesses his own concerns fell away. He built relationships with some families that lasted for decades after his time at the camp. Painted in soft gray with hints of yellow and orange, this book offers an honest look at families facing the very worst circumstances and still heading out into woods to find community, friendship, and a breath of peace at a nature camp.
The Out Side: Trans and Nonbinary Comics edited by The Kao
A really charming collection of nonbinary and trans stories! Most focus on coming out, but a few talk about a later in the process piece of trans life, such as getting top surgery. I enjoyed seeing which pieces of the stories echoed each other, appearing universal, and which stood out as unique to an individual's experience.
Hard Reboot by Django Wexler read by Morgan Hallett
Set far in the future, this sci-fi novella follows a researcher from an extra-terrestrial human settlement on a scientific tourist trip back to "Old Earth". A misunderstanding leads to her accepting a very large bet on the outcome of a mecha battled, and when she losses and can't pay, she has to team up with a mecha fighter to try and win the next round to get her money back. I was able to predict the majority of the twists of this story within the first quarter of the book, but it was still fairly entertaining as a short audiobook listen.
Best. Ceremony. Ever: How to Make the Serious Wedding Stuff Unique by Christopher Shelley
I just officiated a wedding for the first time in my life, and this book (while cheesy) did actually help me get started writing the ceremony speech. It gave me the general outline of the beats I needed to hit, and some smart ideas of little touches or moments to include. The book is very inclusive of same-sex couples, which I really appreciated. Its also padded out with a completely unnecessary 50 page glossary of terms, so I only really read/skimmed the first three quarters of it, but I'd still recommend it if you are either planning or officiating a wedding.

What Did Hobbs Feel for Abigail?
This was the first enigma for me when I watched the show for the first time. A lot of time was spent in contemplation, endeavoring to unravel the emotional underpinnings that drove his intent. Reflecting on the question Abigail herself grappled with: what did he feel that made him want to kill? If you try to look up answers on Reddit, most people sexualized it, It's striking how prevailing these interpretations disregard Will's explicit dismissal of such notions. Societal inclinations often distort profound paternal affection, inherently mired in gut-wrenching love, into a sexual lens and I'm 100% sure it wouldn't be seen like that if it was a son. Anyway, it took me awhile, well actually, it took me Hannigram, to finally understand Hobbs.
See?
The very first episode, a seminal moment, underscored Hobbs's pivotal role, elucidating the show's core thematic fabric.
See?
Will saw. He understood deep in his bones. That's why he was losing himself in Hobbs. Not just because he killed him, but it was their (including Hannibal's) shared traits—meticulous control, unwavering commitment to self-preservation—that forged a parallel between them. Their fortifications, meticulously erected, were fractured by the intrusion of love, "No forts in the bone arena of your skull for things you love."
They were showing us since day one. Do you see now?
Hobbs's prior proclivity towards violence becomes evident, given Abigail's atypical response to the horrors she endured—her silence rather than seeking help reveals her skewed upbringing. To everyone else, running away or seeking help might seem the obvious recourse, yet her actions, or lack thereof, bear testimony to her entwined mentality, an echo of her upbringing in atypical circumstances. She was groomed in an environment devoid of divergent perspectives, anchoring her actions to an unconventional paradigm. This is essentially proof that her father didn't suddenly snap when she decided to go to college. Her selection as a surrogate daughter transcended mere happenstance; she mirrored their essence, their way of thought. It wasn't just because she was in the first case and because she was an orphan. I'm 100% sure Hannibal has orphaned children before, with his victims. Abigail was the chosen one because she had a similar essence.
Her actions—such as leaving with Will to Minnesota despite the inherent dangers—epitomize her submissive obedience, a product of her conditioning. Same thing in Mizumono.
Hobbs loved his daughter, but love shatters us, it requires flexibility to love, we must take the other as a part of ourselves, love is union, anathema to unyielding identities, it wields a destructive force upon them. For those entrenched in staunch individualism, love serves as an existential threat, rending their fortified facades. It's perceived as a vulnerability, weakness, compelling violent reactions aimed at obliterating or evading its source—the cherished object that exposes their vulnerability.
Specially, when that object isn't compliant. Hobbs began losing control when she was leaving for college, when his love for her started to hurt him. When he began to lose control over her.
The intricate dynamics of love, rejection, and acceptance underpin the pivotal relationship between Hannibal and Will. Had Hannibal unveiled his true self earlier, leveraging Will's trust and reciprocating his love, the ensuing cataclysm might have been averted. Will's unwavering trust in Hannibal stemmed from the rare solace found in genuine acceptance and care. The betrayal pierced deeper not for his identity but for the unwavering trust reposed in him. Will's reluctance to believe Hannibal's love for him, seeking affirmation from Bedelia, stemmed from a fear of abandonment and the shattered expectations it brings. "Abandonment requires expectation", he says so himself.
This show is truly about the consequences of love on those unwilling to surrender to it. It is portraying the reverberations of it on those adamantly resistant to its entreaties.

here are my headcanons that clash with the lore [aka ronnie hobb's headcanons he just makes up on the spot me thinks] i have for tcm game characters bc i have writer's block and i need out of it FAST.
danny does not go to university, i'm sorry. i know i know the home gives him a scholarship but he is a blue collar guy. he has to make his own living, he's a hands on guy and he's got COMMON SENSE. no working-class person in the 70s is going to college, they know learning on the job is both sustainable for living (plus he's in a situation where he has to leave the home at 18, so he gotta pay city rent prices to have a roof over his head) and better to learn a trade while getting a paycheck. he was an apprentice since he was 18, and is a year into working as a car mechanic in austin. he does night/weekend classes at the university, probs something in humanities or art. he frequents the student bars when he has his time off, and that is when he meets maria + the gang. he knows leland from fixing his car from time to time, and when danny sees him at a bar one night, hanging out with maria, he knows right away he's asking him to introduce him to her.
leland is NOT the mf that gets the friend group together. this mf has a lot of misogyny to unlearn from growing up in a southern suburb. he took an elective in an art just so he can be in a class with "hot chicks". he doesn't even consider being friends with women at first bc he used to think girls = protential girlfriends/future wives. it wasn't until he found out sonny (the first friend he made, his bff) was close with maria, julie and connie that he warmed up to the idea of all hanging out together. sure... his crush on julie played a factor on him wanting to stay, but being around such open-minded people made him relax and unlearn the shitty traditions he didn't like in the first place. now they're like sisters to him and he lets maria braid his hair when stoned and makes attempt at getting connie out of her shy shell. watching julie from afar, remembering her off-hand remark about not wanting to be in a relationship, keeping his feelings to himself; because he doesn't wanna ruin the bond they all have.
the reason why julie is not wanting to date is because she comes to the realisation of her sexuality. she realises she likes men because, men tend to like her first, and it's easy to love someone who loves you back (typical fire sign move). and she's never picky, she says she doesn't care about looks; it's more the personality. and that is true but, for a guy if he has good style and funny -- she's settled. then she will see a lassie and think "she is the most ethereal thing i've laid eyes on". the intensity of her love for women compared to men hits her overnight. she lets her love for women shine through her platonic relationships; connie, maria and ana are her first priorities (especially connie). she likes sleepovers, having the illusion of living with a s/o while sharing a bed and making breakfast in the morning. she loves showering her friends in compliments, giving them makeovers, taking any excuse to be close to them and show her adoration. her subconscious desire to be in a relationship with a woman lives vicariously through the platonic relationships she has with her feminine peers.
the only person who can see right through it is connie, someone who has her sexuality figured out. she went through the same self-discovery, after all. but loving julie means moving on from her lover who she left behind, so connie is tied at both ends. does she take the risk, find new beginnings, even when there is no concrete proof julie is capable of loving her? or does she keep her promise, return to her lover back home, even if that meant witnessing the promise broken on the other side? what if she found another fate, got married, had kids, kept the feelings hidden. and when she sees how men look at julie, and how boys looked at her past lover, the insecurity prevails. why should they take the risk for her, a singular person, when there is the familiar option lining up to be her husband? *queue Good Luck, Babe! by Chappell Roan*

I know you said you’ve gone back into it slowly but any book recs?
yes absolutely!! i have read some bangers lately tbh. also another thing i am trying to do is start uuuh reviewing what i'm reading so i will link a couple of those as well. but here is a sporadic collection of my reading enjoyments of the last year or so!
IF FOUND RETURN TO HELL // THE DEATH I GAVE HIM by Em X. Liu
em is hands down one of the best writers i know with prose that will punch you in the face and leave you asking if you can have another, please.
IF FOUND RETURN TO HELL is a queer found family novella featuring a done-with-this protag working in a wizarding call centre who abruptly comes down with a case of 'sweet angel baby boy possessed by demon hell child' in a broken magical healthcare system where following protocol is more important than like, helping people. so what is journeyman wen to do if not, you know, help anyway?
THE DEATH I GAVE HIM is the queer scifi hamlet retelling of my dreams, which is funny because i didn't care about hamlet until this book taught me how to. a thoughtful exploration on the nature of adaptation, death & immortality, and also what happens when your best friend is an AI and you wanna fuck him.
IN COLD BLOOD by Truman Capote the original true crime novel. still stuck in my truman blorbo moment. full review here
ASSASSIN'S APPRENTICE by Robin Hobb classic 90s fantasy with surprisingly emotional focus on the protag in a way i really dug. unhinged levels of accidental queerbaiting in a way that i enjoyed rather than despaired of. full review here.
PANDORA'S JAR: WOMEN IN THE GREEK MYTHS by Natalie Haynes a great overview of classical women that takes into account multiple sources and the way they have been read over centuries, and how the time in which a tale is being told affects the tale just as much as what the text of the story actually is. does a good job of walking the middle ground between like, historical sexism and the reflexive girlbossification instinct.
IN OTHER LANDS by Sarah Rees Brennan the queer harry potter offshoot we all actually deserve. portal fantasy with an acerbic main character who will save the world out of sheer spite because the world doesn't seem to think he can save it, or want him to do it even if he could. a genuinely lovely musing on the nature of loneliness, what abuse does to a child, how it's hard but possible to overcome the prejudices you learn when you're young, and how eventually, you're going to have to make the decision to let yourself be loved.
SHE WHO BECAME THE SUN by Shelley Parker-Chan truly i don't have the word for how fucking excellent this queer epic fantasy is. set in mongol-ruled china, this book is a masterclass in political intrigue, historical fiction, military fantasy, and also genderfuckery. feat. the kind of tragedy you see coming for several hundred pages and still takes your breath away when it hits, and also lesbian fisting. anyone who says books based in history can't get queer can get fucked.
A MARVELLOUS LIGHT by Freya Marske for a total 180 in mood, here is your queer romantic fantasy set in an Edwardian England that is reflective of the fact that like, queer people did in fact exist in Edwardian England. A lighter fare that nonetheless will hit you right in the heart and leave you delighted that a) there's a second book out now and b) the third one is coming soon. also Freya is an Artiste when it comes to writing good sex scenes, which
i belatedly realise it seems like i'm focusing on in this post but i just! like a queer text that tackles queer sex with nuance and interest and the horror and/or joy of the body, and the above authors are all fucking masters at their art (which includes, but by no means is limited to, writing about fucking)

So, people say that Golden Age Lois plain and simply despised Clark as a weakling and a coward (with their more Vitriolic Best Buds thing being a modern inventions). Is this entirely true, or was there ever more to it?
Oh my friend that is not true at ALL. In fact from what I've read the idea that Lois despises Clark in any fashion outside of being a friendly professional rival doesn't hold up to the actual scrutiny. (Take this with the grain of salt that I'm only reading Action Comics at the moment, any stories or evidence that exist in the concurrent Superman comic are unknown to me). The moment that sticks out to me is this one so I'll use it for my main thesis statement.
Tumblr media
I mean that's right there in black and white, isn't it? Even if her goal is to marry Superman, the only person she'd want to give her away at the wedding is Clark who she outright loudly declares to the entire office to be her second favorite man in the world (The story is a dream but that only strengthens the claim. This is what Lois is saying IN HER OWN MIND) I have TONS more evidence if you want to peak below the cut, be warned its mostly just gushing. I love Clark and Lois' relationship regardless of context and I have TONS of notes.
Tumblr media
What people often miss is that in this era the two are actually dating on and off again? I've always read it as Lois and Clark just being each others' main social calls when there's something new to do or see.
Tumblr media
She takes steps to activley improve his safety when he's put on dangerous assignment (and she would know, wouldn't she?)
Tumblr media
When Clark is under threat of harm or god forbid seems to be actually hurt, it hits Lois like a train. The idea that something could have happened to her puts her into a very uncharacteristic spiral. She gets stunlocked and tends toward feinting which is otherwise very unlike her.
Tumblr media
Beyond that, simply, the poor girl worries about him as much as he worries about her.
Tumblr media
She relies on Clark to lean on and explicitly would need him around should anything happen to Superman, Clark is her main emotional support system and she knows it well enough to consciously lean on him when in distress
Tumblr media
A simple moment of the two sharing a little bit of small talk, they work in very close quarters seemingly by choice. Clark is part of Lois' routine.
Tumblr media
They even conduct their chores socially, which I'm given to believe was a much more common activity among friends back in the day. Lois takes a personal interest in Clark's life, how he's feeling, how he looks.
Tumblr media
In this moment, granted she's trying to get something out of him but its not like she's holding her nose to give him a kiss on the cheek. And the second she seems disillusioned with Superman, Clark is the first person she can think of to pin her affections on.
Tumblr media
When she's had a weird day at work, who does she talk to? Clark.
Tumblr media
Even on her way out the door she tries to cheer him up just casually noticing he seemed more dour than usual, not only is that her taking an interest in him emotionally but it shows she knows and cares about him enough to note a change in behavior.
And THIS one is my favorite
Tumblr media
She noticed his shirt was dirty, heard him say he had forgotten to get them washed. So she showed up at his apartment where she is evidently a regular enough sight that the doorman knows her by name, to pick up his laundry and have it done for him. No one asks her to do this, she just does it. I've always been fond of saying that the core anchor of any Superman story is the relationship between Clark and Lois. And I DON'T just mean their romantic entanglement. Like Holmes and Watson or Calvin and Hobbs. If you can't write a convincing back and forth between the two, if you can't make the audience believe that these two people are friends who love and care for one another. Then straight up you're going to write Bad Superman comics, period.

A VERY IMPORTANT ANALYSIS, FINALE META, AND AT THE END, FUTURE SEASON TAKE; HANNIBAL (important to read to the end)...
I just finished Wrath Of The Lamb, for the very first time, after binging the series over the course off and on from like, spring to now... the last day of summer, of 2023. Tomorrow, in this timeline, it will be the very first day of the season of Autumn. I say binge, because I would hyperfixate and binge it in three segments. Season one moved a tad slow for me, as I was developing my interest, being courted and romanced by the format and unique design flavor of the show, and meeting the characters (I didn't really care much for Garrett Jacob Hobbs tbh, so that took a bit for me to want to get through), and I wanted to see more of Hannibal most of all (whom I loved and knew previously, through the movies), so I ended up taking a lil break about halfway(?) through the first season. But ohhh... like all of us, it consumed me whole, and I came willingly. Then after some months(?) (Like Will, I lost time a lot during my consumation of HANNIBAL, so I lost time. I'm not sure... its all a blurr how it came about, then to now), I came back, and got to season 2, and then I didn't stop. After season 2, I took a small break to try and pace myself... draw it out a bit more. Relish in the sweet savor, before everything was gonna heat up again. I went on an adventure across the world for a month, so, my binging was also stiffled during season 2, then. And then I went hard, again. Hannibal hannibal, I am a cannibal...
I lingered there... in the moment mid-season, before the three years later. Before the Red Dragon. When Hannibal and Will were on Verger Estate, and the last they had of one another... before Will moved on. I relished in that taste, of THEM. Out and about. Then I went back in, about a few days later. Every episode had ads throughout, long ads (thanks, hulu), so often I didn't sleep all night to watch just two or three episodes, then sleep during the day.
And I finally, made it here. The Finale, ended.
I do feel that the end was... sudden. A simple way to lay out the complexity of it. Quick, feeling. It was beautiful, but unfortunately thanks to the internet, reading show analysis as I went that would mention ending spoilers too, and being on twitter and tumblr... coming avidly to the party with cake, ready to dance, ten years late... I have seen and knew plenty well, what was to come. I recieved the impression that "will and hannibal die at the end" and "will got married" and "alana changes her look drastically, and is a lesbian" (but she's actually probs bi?) and of course, seen over and over, gifs handed right to me... of the cliff fall. Them holding one another close, covered in blood. Then... drop.
But here's the thing. The direction is clear, they didn't die. And its just as tragically poetic, in both ways. Now, if its going to forever be left here, its just fine to leave it open to your own opinion, but I do see the intent here. Bedelia's acting was rather framed odd, through, as she was confirmed to have *NOT* cooked her leg, and it was Hannibal, and there are THREE place settings, because I did at first get this weird impression from how quick it all flowed and how it was framed, that she was eagerly cracked (mentally, by hannibal, and given in to her fate) and waiting... which would be very likely for this show and an interesting route to take. But, I digress gladly, as I am very happy this WAS intended to be confirmation that Hannibal and Will made it... and though they were not in the picture, they were running that show, even in the end.
That dive... was symbolic. Like everything about them, it was multi-dimensional. Will, holding on to his last bit of justice and avengement and revenge (for his family, for Abigail again, for Hannibal drilling into him, just... everything), taking the last of Hannibal. In multiple ways. It was his... reconciliation. His final move, his forgiveness and peace, all in one. Then there's the "can't live WITH him... can't live WITHOUT him" dilemna line, this moment showing both the confliction and resolve of that for Will AND Hannibal... and also Will's conflict and impulsive resolutement to solve that tug and pull he will forever live with... just as Hannibal's impulse to free himself of it, was absurdly actually allowing himself to reach a point of desparation when he felt the need to eat will, as the final and only way to be free from his pull and hold on him.
Hannibal's love for him, all consuming. Will's obsession for Hannibal, all drowning. Will was later than hannibal, to realize, and allow himself to realize and admit, that its love for him, too. Hannibal surrendered to Will fully and accepted and stepped into being fully consumed by falling in love willingly, when he realized, "Will I'll wait for you. I surrender. At last, I allow someone else to control me, wholly, and fully I relinquish all of my control to you. Forever, its yours." Will still was confliced and feeling both love and confusion and complete decided resolve, and fighting that dilemna of truth he knows, but is not willing to face or embrace all the way(?), and facing/embracing his becoming, the whole time.
The fall, for Will also, was him fully surrendering himself as well, to Hannibal. He both took the plunge, to sacrefice them tragically, sacrefice their love FOR them, on an altar of their own design, ("this is my design"), for the greater good of all. For the greater good of them, too. And let destiny intertwined with fate, decide what came after... if they live or die from it all. Sacrefice HIMSELF, and put BOTH of them down. But also... more poetically, its when he fully embraced and also surrendered himself to fully leaning into accepting his becoming. He was one with Hannibal. He knew he loved Hannibal at this point, and he finally not just accepted it, but leaned into it... just as Hannibal did by surrendering all of himself, *for* Will, *TO* Will.
And it was so tragic, Will also knew that they must do this. Together. Just like back in the house... at the finale of season 2. Kill together, was Hannibal's plan with him. They must, again, die together. END, together. Their beginning, their End, them. Their becoming. Immortally... tragic death. Together at last, fulfilled.
I can almost envision their smiles, as they held onto one another... finally complete, as they fell. They knew what was coming, but they knew what they were. Every question for one another, and for themselves internally, together answered. All at once, laid to rest. Finally surrendered and fully open to one another. United, soul-tangled. That was everything, for them. Even as they fell, they were willing. Surrendered. In a state of total serene vulnerability, after the intimacy and climax of fighting and killing, vanquishing the beastly dragon, together. (Yes, that was a symbolic innuendo). They were happy. It was now, both Hannibal's becoming for them, and Will's becoming for them... unified as one...
If they survived, then, (which they did, its confirmed) its clear then, what waited for Will on the other side. He is fully Actualized. They both are, together. For both of them, its... new life. Born again, poetically... for they are one, together. They survived and thus have been given their new lives, surrendered to one another, happy, free. Everyone thinks they are dead. Everyone thinks they are gone. Their families mourned and release them, laid them to rest, with their fate. And they are... they've run off. The transformation, has completed itself. And there will be no more attempted killing one another... its... complete. The courtship, the contrasting and fighting back against togetherness, the tension, and reconing of figuring out their dynamic, and what it means to THEM, as individuals and a duo... and what it will be, after all. They are now in the next moment, together.
Which brings us... to Hannibal keeping his date with Bedelia. Post credits. He always keeps his promises... even death cannot deny Dr. Lecter being a man of his word. For he is neither of heaven nor hell's forces, and will not be denied. After all, its Hannibal's world, and we are all just living in it. That's why the show is called "HANNIBAL". And Will and him shall feast, and survive, together. All is right in the world, and everyone simply knows what they need to know. They finally go off together. And all is finally even... forgiven. All jabs taken, all shots, all stabs and slashes... its all even, all complete in its phase, now. ("Even, Steven.") Will and Hannibal, are one. One couple, a united team. A marriage. And they have both, surrendered to it, and chosen to embrace it fully, with open arms. They *are* Actualized.
This keeps going through my head... "see you on the other side." That expression. They needed to plunge, that was Will's final step. Now, everything is... evolved. Completed. What lies on the other side, is a new chapter in their stories. The past, their lives before, laid to rest. The future, now theirs only, to write. They've stopped running, from one another. And are now ironically more free and themselves and fulfilled, on the run, than they ever were before. They's stopped fighting destiny, and embraced it.
Its quite beautiful and poetic... as it always has been.
Now... The Silence Of The Lambs. I have faith that somehow, in some way in the future, we WILL see season 4. And they will succeed in its creation, and maybe even season 5 or 6, EAGERLY, once it gets back in motion. I do strongly believe that. Somehow in some way, it will happen. It feels... right. And with everyone still so driven, its only a matter of time, now. Its something time cannot outrun. Its a canon event in our timeline, I would bet a fortune on it. Someone will pop up and be the final key deal to setting the prepped lumber to burn, ablaze. And it will go like wildfire and everyone is going to be ecstatic. The show will have been revived. Have new life... and so will Hannibal and Will. Everyone will.
But I've seen a lot of takes, where people are afraid of Clarice coming in; when she can, and when she definitely will. This has all led to this, too, just as everything before it continued to build to every moment and landmark in their stories, ALL of the character's stories, thus far.
Its been ten years and I've never seen this take, so here's mine.
We have nothing to fear. Will and Hannibal are not just *ONE* and avoiding it or scared to face it, they ARE an item. They are at last, complete. That is FIXED in the story from this point on... its all led to this. Just as they are fixated, now, their stories together are a fixed point, too. Now I say, the show made us fall madly in love with Will Graham. And Will Graham, with Hannibal Lecter. Would the excellence of the show, not also make us fall in love with Clarice Starling? The only other, worthy of Hannibal Lecter in every iteration? And if Will is his beloved, as Hannibal is Will's, finally... I present a third, very excellent, very untapped but high potential dynamic. That could be juicy brilliant, compelling, conflicting. Hannibal and Will having their time together, just them, complete gay romance and marriage... just them. While Clarice develops as a character, parallel to them, on her own journey with them on theirs, just like Will was when HANNIBAL began. And they have their blissful murder husband honeymoon phase, they never had yet. Its poetic and beautiful... and on the side, we get to know Clarice... and where she fits into this post-fall (falling in love, falling for love, literally and tragically and physically), FBI situation. But I reckon, what if it comes to her pursuing them, and they pursue and play cat and mouse with her, too? The same push and pull tension, in the same brilliant way, and we get to see all of it happen with them together. And I present... what if she? Became *THEIR* obsession? Their destined third. The trifecta... the symbolic, holy trinity. We know Hannibal (character, book, and show) loves his biblical proportions symbolism and analogies. Murderous threesome soulmates... a polycule. Now that... can take this flaming titanic on a whole 'nother next level of WILD mad love. Brilliance.
Hannibal, Will, Clarice. It could have even been foreshadowed, all this time... that they were destined to have a third. Be a "family", complete together, with a younger female counterpart, of SOME kind. But she would not come in the form of a daughter... no, we've seen that. We've been given Abigail, and her time has passed. Micha, and she was laid to rest. They have healed from the loss and position of that dynamic in relation to them. No... she would be theirs, their third, in a new way. Different than Alana ever could be.
How bloody interesting.
If I was one of the writers for Hannibal, that personally would be the route I would pitch and lean to take, as both the shocking turn and sinker, that consumes us all. I think it could be so thrilling. So excellent, dynamic, new, yet iconically perfectly them, somehow. Its their next chapter. She is their next development. The final dynamic... peices, falling into place. The idea may be a love it or hate it for some, but if the show did take that route, I just know they would behold it to us in a way that would make all neigh sayers, and those hesitant of it, fall madly and utterly captivated. Just as it always has... in the disturbingly beautiful, all consuming influence, of HANNIBAL.
"I believe... that sentence, is what they would reffer to, as a 'Mic Drop'. But you've picked the Mic up again, Will."
Any direction we are shown next, will be excellent, and not one to fear. But one that will be beheld, and beloved, just as brilliant as all previous, in the end. Trust Fuller!! Mads and Hugh ♡ and everyone in love with laying out its creation perfectly and intricately.
It will be beautiful.
(Please do share any thoughts or ideas or responses in the comments or reblogs!! I would love to see what you think.♡)

Major Crimes (things that shoulda been)
OK.
I don’t know how to do a “under the cut”
So, if you need to avoid a spoiler for Major Crimes (which finished in 2017 or 2018, I forget... time is really mussy in my head right now)
Theeeeeeeeeeeen.... take the title and these sentences as a cue to start scrolling away to avoid it :)  (i’ll also make sure to tag it as such)
.
.
.
.
ON THAT NOTE, let’s roll.   Spudmeisterin and I were talking about the ending, and how bloody bad/lazy writing it was.   so here’s some points we came up with.
(i realize they wanted to be dramatic and surprising, but they missed the mark)  What would be more surprising, is if they allowed Sharon Raydor to retire happily.   (because killing women for people’s pain so they can finish the impossible task, as well as “close to retirement so must die” and also “i’m happy/just married so must die” tropes are just....so rife.  just soooo rife)
SO.
In my mind, she did.
She had the same heart thing (ouch)  cuz, let’s face it... life can do that.  Whether or not she needed the transplant or was put on a pacemaker and a severe restriction on her job choices/retirement choices, I’ll leave that up to you.
Either way, she’s out for that part of the season.  The rest of the team nails Stroh the cartoon villain serial killer. yada yada.
They come back to her hospital room after Stroh is shot.   Andy is there, as well as Provenza, Julio, Rusty, and Amy.
Sharon is like, “did you get him?” (meaning, did you catch the bastid etc)
Provenza does his little...kinda look down sheepish and is like, captain we had to shoot him.  I shot him.
And Andy chimes in like, “really, he totally did it”.
Which causes Sharon to do that all knowing, “Mmm.”
(she knows that Provenza didn’t do it, but she doesn’t care.  Stroh is done, everyone’s healthy/safe/accounted for.)
they do the usual happy banter, then the nurse is like, she’s still got a long road to recovery, everyone out, she needs rest.
Sharon Raydor retires Officially. (so does Andy)   They had some awful close calls, and they want to enjoy their worlds, and the time they have left.
That doesn’t mean that they don’t do occasional consulting (kinda like alexa crowe in “my life is murder”)
It should be noted that Provenza is unlikely to retire until he literally cannot anymore..  He’s absolutely running the Major Crimes unit.
Rusty becomes a proper DA (working with Hobbs, instead of just interning)
Sharon and Andy embarrass (cutely) the hell out of Rusty at his wedding.  (i can’t decide if he gets back together with Gus, or he finds someone else along his healing journey.  The writers really just flung their story all over the place)
anyhoo. it’s cute.  much goofy dancing.
Provenza gives Best man speech, and Rusty hides his face in his hands on the table.
(ooo.  the night before, part of the bachelor party, the gang goes axe throwing.  Julio and Amy clean up on the bets (but which one wins between them?)
Some times, Sharon, Andy, Rusty, his hubs, Provenza and Patrice, go to disneyland.  it’s a retiree thing/family thing.   They love the really freaking weird rides.  Patrice has a special hat made for Provenza saying “Louie”.  He grumbles at first, but accepts that He’s wearing it, because Patrice is wearing hers ^,^
He won’t go to Disneyworld though, because California is superior (or he’s a grump, it’s hard to say which)
and because it sounds about right to me, Sharon and Andy make it somewhere into their 80′s.
If anyone else wants to add to some of the ridiculous antics, feel free.  And spuds, I think i forgot a point or two, feel free to add ^,^

I'd love some Projects Blue head cannons, this game doesn't get enough attention. What kind of icecream do you think Asher likes?
Tumblr media
✰ ice cream ✰
pairingミ☆ asher x reader word count ミ☆ tagsミ☆ ice cream date, asher's autistic (real!), fluffy
notes ミ☆ So I know it's just a hc about what kind of ice cream he likes, but like, I never get to write about Asher so you get more >:)
summary ミ☆ you and asher go on a little ice cream date <3
Tumblr media
To actually answer your question: rocky road
I could not tell you why, I just think he does
BUT, in addition to that: here, have a little ice cream date hcs
he'd order for you if you asked him to
I wholeheartedly believe that if you're the type of person who can't talk in public or to strangers very well, he'd do it for you
he wouldn't even think about it if we're being honest
you'd ask him and he'd be like "oh sure, what do you want?"
no weird looks or hesitance
anyways
he doesn't like normal eye contact but he loves looking at you, so if you guys are eating your ice cream at a table together he'll end up looking pretty much anywhere that isn't your eyes
your forehead, your lips, your nose, even trailing down to your hands
kinda berates themself for it because they don't know if that's weird or not to do
if you're walking around somewhere, like a park, it's easier for them to avoid the eye contact
there's things to look around at as you two eat and talk
they can look at your face and eyes just fine if you're also taking in the scenery
he can't help but make little comments if something reminds him of a movie or animation he saw
he feels safe enough around you by now that that urge is hard to repress
(not that he genuinely wants to, he sees the way you smile when he talks about films and while he doesn't quite get why you care about his hobb- passion that much, he likes making you smile)
you get a bit of ice cream on your face and it's OVER
he'll tell you after a bit and, after your failed attempts to get it off, he'd lean over and kiss it off your face himself
and then pretend he's confused when you blush over it
"What's wrong? I was just trying to help, number 2 :>"
yes that emoticon is VERY needed to understand that man's tone
and yes, that nickname is entirely necessary
don't worry though, you get him back for it
just compliment him enough and run your fingers through his hair when you two finish eating and watch him get so red in the face
he'll blame the blush on the fact that his face is always red
to his credit, it is
to your credit, it's not always that red
I really don't think he'd offer his ice cream to you
but if you ask he'd probably find another spoon and offer you a small bite
they won't let you just kinda toss your trash anywhere and will actively go searching for a trash can to put it in
that's just their vibe to me
after you're both officially done eating your ice cream, they have no problem just holding your hand, walking and talking together
he's the type to rub circles into the back of your hand I just know he is
and also
if it's cold and you suggest it, holding hands in the pocket of his jacket <3

I'm splitting this up into sections because there's a lot to go into here. Also y'all know about Ansi enough so I'm getting straight into the relationship. Not proof read if there's errors then no there isn't. Thank you to @the-cat-and-the-birdie for the questions.
Hobie & Ansi
–Part 1
Describe their relationship in 10 words or less.
Idiots who care for one another more than they think.
Describe their dynamic
There are layers to this. At first glance they give off power couple. When they're on site but not in a mission they're chaotic gremlins. But, when they're by themselves they're just two people who are so tired of living. Yet they're both gonna fight. It's gonna suck but they're both gonna keep going until things get better.
Quick! Someone asks 'What are you two? Are you dating?' - What do they say?
"Mind your business."
They will never explain a thing to anybody who they aren't close with if asked.
What's they're favorite way to spend time together?
Reading. They both love to just sit and read together. They'll read aloud to each other.
Hobie adores Ansi's reading voice. The way he changes his pitch for each character.
Her cheerful tone that she can somehow keep throughout the entire story. The way you can tell when a character is about to do something embarrassing because his nose just flared.
Ansi reads mostly sci-fi and fantasy because to him reading is an escapism.
Ansi enjoys Hobie's reading for many reasons (aside from the fact that his voice is so easy in the ears).
His deep and calming voice. The way he tries to hide or exaggerate his accent as he reads. The way he'll pause and take a long drawn out breath when he gets mad before he continues.
His smooth and steady pace is really relaxing. Ansi is fighting fight sleep every time. Hobie reads mostly memoirs or auto/biographies of important black political figures. For him reading is a means to gain knowledge and understanding about the world.
Are they romantic, platonic, sexual? A secret fourth thing?
Trying to narrow it down under any one thing is honestly offensive. They're just so loyally devoted to one another that the lines blur. Ansi will never trust anyone as much as he trusts Hobie and vice versa.
How long have they known each other?
2 years. (Hahaha so apparently they've known each other for 5 non-consecutive years.)
What song embodies their vibe?
It took so long to find a song that didn't use the word love in it. That was genuinely my only rule.
I Will by Mitski
I wanted a song that expressed the devotion that they hold for one another as well as their ability to be vulnerable with each other. To me this song is like them shouting "JUST LET ME TAKE CARE OF YOU," back and forth.
Two Slow Dancers by Mitski
The main theme of this song is nostalgia. And I've found that the two of them share more history than what I previously thought. They both wish they could turn back time. It'd be nice to go back to when life was simpler but they both know that they have to keep moving forward.
(I Wanna Be Yours by Arctic Monkeys was in the running too. )
Any nicknames for each other?
Hobie calls Ansi his/a Trickster and Ann
(like Anansi the trickster spider)
Ansi has tons of nicknames for Hobie.
So far she's got: Busy Bee, Bean, Paper Boy, Bie, Hobbs, and Princess if he's getting on his nerves.
What does a sleepover look like for them?
On a good night it's the two of them infodumping back and forth to one another. Or Hobie bouncing lyrics ideas off for Ansi to sing. Boring bland stuff because it's nighttime and Ansi has a sleep schedule that he likes to stick to.
On a bad night they're both lying in Ansi's full size bed drunk or high, spilling their hearts out to one another until either the sun rises or they both pass out. Sometimes they're just lying on the couch, Hobie in Ansi's arms silently sobbing.
What moment do they feel safest with each other?
Idk if this question is referring to a specific time in the day or a moment in their shared history so I'll say something for the first one.
Crime never sleeps and I don't think the two of them do either. I'd like to say nighttime but we all know nobody is getting any peace and quiet in the streets of Seattle or London at nighttime. So probably around dusk. Right before nightfall. Or at dawn when the sun is just starting to rise.
For some of these answers I just blacked out and it felt like they were speaking through me like dang. Y'all good????

2023 Reading Summary
Tumblr media
I'm late...again... It's hardly a surprise. However, I've finally looked at my reading for 2023. The only stats I tracked this year was the genre, and even this was a simplified version because I decided I don't care. I spent most of my time this year recording what I thought about the books I read not the data surrounding them. And, if I'm honest, I don't think I'll even bother with the genre in 2024.
The Numbers
In total I read 84 books, which considering I've been working or training full time all year is surprising for me. On average I tend to read 60-70 books in a normal year, usually towards the lower end, so almost 20 books over that is a very pleasant surprise.
The biggest surprise has been my change in most read genre! I've only recorded 4 genres, classic, nonfiction, fantasy, and general fiction, these broke down to:
Classic 53%
Fantasy 31%
Nonfiction 12%
General fiction 4%
Fantasy is usually my top genre with over 50%, so this is a change (I don't think it will be permanent). However the largest shock is the nonfiction! I never read nonfiction for fun, but I guess this is a change from leaving university. I don't have to learn for work anymore, so I'm now looking into these things for fun as the mood takes me. I am disappointed these haven't been history books, however, I'm hoping to change that in 2024 and it has been nice learning more about literature in 2023.
Top Three Books
Tumblr media
I tried to do a top 5 but the gap between 3 and 4 was too large, so I've narrowed it down to a top 3.
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke
The Tombs of Atuan by Ursula K. Le Guin
Evelina by Fanny Burney
I loved all of these books in different ways, and I think I've done a mini review of each in the months I read them. However, if anyone wants detailed thoughts then I'm more than happy to talk about any of these books.
Biggest Surprises
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
Silas Marner by George Eliot
Goblin Market and Other Poems by Christina Rossetti
Fugitive Prince by Janny Wurts
All of these were excellent, they just weren't quite in my top three.
Most Disappointing
Witches: James I and the English Witch-Hunts by Tracy Borman
The Fitz and the Fool Trilogy by Robin Hobb (I DNFed this series after Fool's Quest and I'm heartbroken, but I have major issues with this trilogy in a way I couldn't keep reading as it was destroying my love for Fitz.)
Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson (this is standing in for all of the secret project books)
Goals (Sort Of...)
To continue the surprises... I've only listened to 4 audiobooks, so most of those books were read physically or through an ebook. This is huge for me as I used to consume about a third of my books through audio, it's a massive improvement because I don't retain them very well. Listening to fewer audiobooks was a big part of my informal (in other words unwritten) reading goals and I'm very happy to have got it down this far. I do think it'll go up again next year because I've got a lengthy commute to work now, but I've also broken the habit of sitting at home listening when I could easily read the book myself and get more out of it.
I did as well with not worrying about numbers or data surrounding the books I'm reading. I deliberately retired my spreadsheet this year and only kept up with my reading journal. After a week or so I didn't miss it in the slightest. I'm not a hard data/stats kind of person, but I am easily persuaded to keep these sorts of records. I started keeping a spreadsheet in 2019 where I track genre, pages, author gender, and format in addition to the book information, by 2022 I was tracking book info, series, genre, format, author info (just too much to list), pages, month read, where I bought the book, if it was a tbr, new or library read, reread or new to me, and rating. It was too much! It was hard work, I was MISERABLE, and I didn't care. It was performing to the standards of what you see in the reading community online... So, I ditched the spreadsheet and I've been much happier. I've read better books because I haven't had my stats in mind, and I've read more. I had more time to actually read because I haven't been spending an inordinate amount of time researching books and entering data into a spreadsheet! I'm definitely making this a permanent change.
I've also used my ereader a lot more this year, I have no numbers to back this up but I've naturally been reaching for it regularly and it has done me good. I've not only read more frequently and for longer periods of time, but I've been more comfortable while reading (no more back, neck, or arm strain from 1000+ page fantasy tomes!) and I've tried books I was hesitant about buying physically because I could access a digital copy. I did have a massive problem with my ereader in November because my Kobo Libra 2 started to have battery changes that nothing resolved and then it died completely. Unfortunately I lost a lot of my reading data, including my notes, which has upset me. But I have saved my elibrary and bought a "new" device (it's a Boox Nova 3) so I can still read - I might discuss getting a Boox separately. However, I am much more cautious about note taking through a device and I'm sticking to recording everything in my physical journal.
This brings me nicely onto my reading journal. I wanted to overhaul my journal this year because my old journal format was growing stale and uninspiring to use. I was often leaving it for weeks at a time and often scrambling to write up 5 or 6 books in one go because I'd forgotten to do it as I was reading. So, I worked through several different styles of journal and found a new, more flexible, and engaging style that can fit my changing moods throughout the year. I'm definitely going to discuss this at a later date, so I won't say much here. But I am very happy to have a new journal system and I'm excited to get into it properly this year.

3, 17, and i'll re-ask 16 to get whatever other one you meant!
3. What were your top five books of the year?
WAHOO! I like this one it's made me realize that I actually loved way more books this year than I was giving credit to. Let's say:
5. We Have Always Live in the Castle by Shirley Jackson. Loved loved loved this one it's turned me into a big #ShirleyHead and also (along with Hill House) is responsible for some other takes I've had about books this year which I'll expound on later.
4. Go Ahead in the Rain: Notes on a Tribe Called Quest by Hanif Abdurraqib. Nobody's doing it like him. Only music writer I've ever read who is actually capable of communicating the music itself just over text, loves the things he writes about so strongly that it makes you as the reader love them too, beautiful beautiful collection and piece of work. A Little Devil in America would be on here too but I'm limiting myself to one book per author to resolve both this and the Nabokov problem.
3. When the Angels Left the Old Country by Sacha Lamb. First book I finished in 2023 and one of my all-time favorites :] It's so smart and so lovingly written and so complex and doing such fun things with religion and history and gender and also it's a fun and excellently-paced read. Recommend without qualification
2. Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. Well. It's Lolita innit
1. Stephen Florida by Gabe Habash. Would I argue that Stephen Florida is "better" than Lolita? Who knows. Depends on the day. But I did love it more than any other book I've read in recent memory. The most directly invested I've been in a story in a long time, spent huge stretches of it being so stressed out about multiple things at once that I had to pause every five pages to catch my breath. Stunning depiction of a deeply unlikable character who you still want to win an unwinnable situation. Hostile to any attempt of a reader to figure out what it "means" or is "saying". Fantastic commitment to character voice. Perfect ending that had me totally motionless and speechless for maybe ten minutes. Have never in my life been more disappointed to find out that an author hasn’t written anything else. Man. Nobody is doing it like that.
16. What was the most overhyped book of this year?
Sob really funny of Sarah to get Annihilation and you to get The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones. This wasn’t my first answer because it certainly is less broadly overhyped than Annihilation but I haven’t heard a single other person have negative feelings about it and I’m baffled by this. It fell into such a constant and repetitive trap of overexplaining things to me, both exposition and description of things that were supposed to be scary, and it drove me nuts. It being the year of Ms. Shirley Jackson certainly did not help, since she really has the perfect balance of how much to describe something to keep it scary, which isn’t super fair to Mr. Jones but it’s true regardless. Plus I thought how it treated women was really strange (derogatory), which I would have cared about much less in a better book but in this one really stuck out and weakened it further. And overall I just did not at all really understand what it was trying to do, which could be on me but I’m certainly too annoying to admit it, the pacing did not work for me at All and it just. Ugh. Didn’t like it!!
17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?
I was kind of shocked by how much I liked Where Are Your Boys Tonight? but I have already talked about that one. So let’s go with The Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb. It wasn’t like life changing or anything but it was a much more fun read than I was expecting since last attempt I made I bounced off the narration style immediately. But despite its many many concessions to the great weaknesses of epic fantasy I still intend to read the sequel and I especially love how Hobb engages with, uh, pain and sickness and disability and how she refuses to let them fade away and seems to really understand the extent to which pain and extended sickness alter people. I’m so so so excited to get to the torture because of this
