Now that even more of the season 4 script is out, here is a list of moments we know Joseph Quinn improvised, so far:
-The majority of the scene with Crissy in the woods (confirmed by writers, Grace)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-“Don’t ya, big boy?” (I don’t remember how this was confirmed but it’s old news now lol)
Tumblr media
-“I love you, man” (I refuse to put the gif here or acknowledge the context, you guys get it)
-“it’s his tone, right?” (Confirmed through script)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-“HI” (confirmed through script) **one of my personal faves, can’t believe it was improv thank u Joe, PS I couldn’t find the exact moment in gif form but it’s from this scene**
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-Bonus deleted line that implies Robin was going to tease Steve about wearing Eddie’s vest (confirmed through script)
Tumblr media
So many of the moments that made us fall so hard with Eddie and ship him with Steve/Crissy came from the actor just going for it. I know I’m even missing some too so feel free to reblog and add! What an absolute legend 😭

DRDT New Character Talent Analysis
WHO ARE THESE GUYS???? GOING CRAZY GOING STUPID
Ahem.
As likely everyone has now seen at this point, DRDTdev made a very exciting announcement on Twitter– namely, that he’s been working on another fangan alongside DRDT! (Very relatable, once you make one fangan it’s kinda hard to stop.) Understandably, assuming this fangan is ever developed in full, it will be several years down the road, given that it would only be published after DRDT is complete.
However, we have these designs now, and I wanna know what their talents are, dammit! The blurb says that they are students trapped in a killing game, so I assume that they have been given Ultimate abilities. Thus, here’s my best shot and first look analysis. I tried not to look at anyone else’s work too much before presenting my opinions in order to get them out as fast as possible, so, sorry if I missed any major details that people have uncovered!
Notably, when I downloaded the images to my computer (so I could look at them without waiting for the website’s load time), all of them saved with weird number/letter codes. These probably mean nothing, although they do all end with “_o”, which could indicate that they were put through a code scramble of some kind. At the very least, the codes are a kind of convenient way to refer to the characters, so I’ll use the first three letters as a name. Also, I’ll be using they/them pronouns for all characters, since we don’t know how they identify.
We’ll start with the Protagonist, and go alphabetically by code from there. I’m so excited!!! Here we go:
Tumblr media
I’m glad that this guy is basically confirmed as the Ultimate Teacher, because I honestly have no clue what I’d call them otherwise.
The main thing I noticed throughout their design was the repetition of red undertones everywhere. You can see them in two places: on the jacket, and in their hair. We know from the July 31st Q&A that characters in the Despair Time Fanganronpa Universe (DTFU) see blood as red, and that Monokuma’s color palette is black, white, and red. It’s kind of a suspicious color– the children’s hospital color theory of it all. O-or, maybe it’s just their favorite color…!
The bows in n9Z’s hair kind of remind me of the one on Peko’s sword case (sorry I didn’t put in a picture), although I doubt there’s a connection there. The gloves make me think of something fancy, the trenchcoat makes me think of a detective, the ID makes me think it’s something top secret… dude, what are you doing?
I guess there is the question of what exactly this person teaches. If we assume they’re the teacher Min mentions in A History of Hope’s Peak, it seems like the answer would be, “Ultimates.” If you want to teach Ultimates, you need to know and be able to do a lot of stuff, so that could explain the utilitarian design. They could have also initially had a background as something else, such as a government agent or employee of XF-ture Tech, before winding up as a teacher.
The fact that their eyes are always closed is also notable. Given DRDTdev’s penchant for putting important stuff in the eye designs, it’s possible there’s some important info in there that he's not ready to release yet. Like, if n9Z had black/red heterochromia or something, that would send us spinning. (Personally, I’m kinda hoping there’s an apple in there…) I also had the thought that n9Z might just permanently have both of their eyes closed, kind of like how Setsuka Chiebukuro of SDRA2 always keeps one eye closed. That would be a cute parallel to Min, whose eyes are always obstructed.
So, yeah. Ultimate Teacher, probably. Despite the fact that we more or less have their Ulimate talent, I somehow feel like we know the least about them…
Tumblr media
My first impression of this person is that they’re definitely athletic in some regard. The ponytail that ends in a braid would be keeping the hair out of their eyes, and the athletic shoes would be helpful for running around.
About the marks under the eyes... While the comparison to my superhero design for Arturo is still a lighthearted jest, the reason for them being there may be fueled by the same reasoning. The superpower that @1moreff-creator gave Arturo was a skill that involved his vision, so I put those marks under his eyes as a natural mark that would mimic eye black. If you don’t want to read the entire link, eye black is those lines of paint (or sometimes stickers) that baseball or American football players wear under their eyes. While it’s not entirely scientifically proven, the point of the marks is supposed to be absorbing the rays of sun around the eyes to reduce the glare you would see. Thus, 0a6 may have these marks under their eyes to make it easier to see in a fast-paced situation (even though they're not particularly dark in color).
Additionally, if we didn’t already know who the protagonist was, I would guess it was 0a6. They have an ahoge in very much the same way that Teruko does, and they share an eye design with Hajime Hinata. The styling of their belt buckle also reminded me of how truth bullets are designed. However, 0a6 is NOT the protagonist, which must mean that these things mean something else. I don’t have much to say about the ahoge, but the eye design might instead imply that this person’s talent has to do with rejecting, opposing, or ending something. The bullet could be a regular bullet, and therefore imply that this person’s talent has something to do with guns.
For whatever reason, the hairstyle already made me think Ultimate Archer at first glance, so with the gun thing, I’m going to submit my guess as Ultimate Sharpshooter. This talent (and other slight variations of it) shows up pretty commonly in fangans (Kiyoka Maki of DRA, Desmond Hall of P:EG), and for good reason. It’s a talent that gives off a cool vibe, a potentially level headed yet aggressive personality, and can obviously be involved in many cool murder tricks.
My other guesses besides Ultimate Sharpshooter are in a similar ballpark– aforementioned Archer, Ultimate Bounty Hunter, Ultimate Spy, etc– but I could be way off track. I don’t see any weapons on 0a6, which would be weird for any of those talents. It could be more of a Debater type talent (with the eye symbol and truth bullet), or the blue gloves could hint at something more scientific (a la Charles and Arturo), although I don’t see the benefit to the sporty under-eye mark in either of those cases.
Tumblr media
3Km is interesting, because they’ve got a lot going on. Hexagons, fire, zebra print– put it all together, and what does it mean? One interpretation is that their personality, too, is a lot.
I was immediately drawn to the markings on the left side of 3Km’s face, because I don’t know what they are. They could be angry veins, but… I don’t think veins really work like that in the shoulder. It’s far more than the typical anime stylization, not in the same place, and they don’t look particularly angry, so that's probably wrong. In that case, it’s probably a scar. But, what kind? Acid? An animal? Fire, like the symbol on their shirt?
Let’s move on for now and take a look at their pants. There’s a zebra pattern, which could imply a connection to animals/zoos or travel/Africa. The kind of pants they’re wearing are called chaps, which, hey, are typically ridden by horse riders! They’re meant to protect the rider’s legs from “thorny vegetation, extreme temperatures, and the animals they work with.” That definitely makes it seem like the zebra is important, as an equine animal.
Thus, my guess for this character is Ultimate Wild Animal Tamer. They wear chaps and gloves to protect them from the untamed animals they work with, yet they may have gotten a scar from a taming gone wrong. They’re strong so that they can get the upper hand, and the fire and piercings could speak to their rebellious, similarly wild personality. @venus-is-thinking also suggested that, as a Wild Animal Tamer, this character could work in the circus, which could further explain the flamboyant clothing and fire motif. They definitely seem like a character who could be putting on a show.
As for the other character pictured… that person is almost certainly 3Km’s sibling, likely a twin. However, as a fellow member of the killing game cast, we’ll get to them later! For now, let’s check out somebody else.
Tumblr media
This character is one of the ones that I’m the most baffled about. They don’t wear a lot of symbols or field-specific clothing, so, it’s kind of a shot in the dark.
They definitely seem kind of fancy, what with the super swirly hair. Square scarves also typically seem to be worn in professional circumstances for stylish people. They’re wearing a lot of layers (including said scarf and a sweater), so it’s possible they work in a cold environment? Or maybe they just naturally run cold. There’s a lot of draping elements in their clothing, between the folded jacket and two-layered skirt, but that doesn’t really correlate to a specific location or profession.
The eyes patterns are also weird. They’re very spiky and not perfectly circular. What they reminded me of first were either an explosion, a loud noise, or a circular blade distorted while spinning quickly. Glasses are typically associated with nerdy or smart characters (like Eden and Charles), but anyone can wear glasses, so I wouldn’t use that as a huge selling point.
Anyways, the combination of fanciness, loudness, and potential nerdiness made me think some kind of talent incorporating a voice and art. I had ideas ranging from Ultimate Opera Singer to Ultimate Art Critic. In the end, I settled on Ultimate Stage Director, mostly as a vibe check. I could imagine this character ordering writers, actors, and set designers around with the goal of following their vision. A person like that who’s used to being in charge could be an interesting figure in a killing game. Again, though, I don’t have super strong feelings about this, so I’m extra looking forward to learning more.
Tumblr media
I was going to slam dunk this one as the Ultimate Shepherd until @fuji-iri pointed out to me that there’s actually a sewing needle pattern in their eye! I’m kind of glad, because it gives me more to talk about and might explain some of the weird things I noticed if this character were the Ultimate Shepherd.
Besides the sewing needle, the eyes are definitely reminiscent of a sheep. Same with the braids in their hair– they’re arranged in a spiral reminiscent of a sheep’s horns. The cloud-like pattern on their cloak, as well as the soft-looking trim, seem fluffy and wool-like. 9lt definitely has a sheep motif, but that doesn’t mean it’s the talent exactly.
9lt’s bell hints at that concept. Although sheep often wear bells, according to google images, they’re more often regular bells than the circular bell depicted in their outfit. It seems like sheep can wear these bells, but they’re more commonly seen on cats.
There’s also a strong focus on pastel colors in the design, particularly pink. The design is very fun and childlike, it’s silhouette appearing smaller due to the large bow and lack of visible arms. (They’re also just pretty short.) The cloak, which obscures most of their body, kind of reminds me of Toshiko Kayura of P:EG. Small, cute, and childish, yet kind of mysterious and strange: that’s the vibes this design is giving me.
Given the sewing needle, it’s tempting to give this character a talent in fashion design. They do have a very specific style, which could play into their designs. However, with the strong connections to animals and fluffiness makes me think that they actually might be something along the lines of the Ultimate Plush Maker. It’s cozy and cuddly while also involving the sharp eye (of the needle) that a creator needs to have.
Tumblr media
Now, this is a character with a lot going on. They’ve got symbols all over and a really fun hairstyle, so, let’s see how it could all fit together.
One of the aspects that first caught my eye was the flower in hwR’s hair. I’m pretty sure it’s a dandelion, which could be read in a couple of ways. The first is that a dandelion is a weed. hwR could be a character who often isn’t wanted, but manages to persist regardless. Secondly, dandelions have a lot of medicinal benefits if you consume them. So, hwR could be a character focused on health, especially in alternative ways. Thirdly, there’s the superstition that blowing on a dandelion will grant you a wish. I’d lean against this one because the dandelion isn’t… ripe(???) enough to be blown on yet, but the interpretation is still there.
The bunny symbol also has a lot of interpretations. As I listed out in the image, some options are good luck, longevity, opportunity, and adventure. The white rabbit is also a main character in Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, which DRDTdev is clearly familiar with if the LGI MV is anything to go by. Generally, rabbits are also fast, cute, and known for multiplying. White rabbits seem to have generally positive connotations, which is a good sign for this character.
Other symbols include the crescent moon and sparkle type shapes, which seem to indicate nighttime or mystery. The symbol in hwR’s eyes is a spiral, which is also mysterious and could have to do with hypnosis. Apparently they also represent the circle of life, which could be suspicious…? Dying and living, killing games, and the like.
Anyways, with all this supernatural and superstitious imagery, I feel like the talent has to deal with something similar. I’m not exactly sure what to call it, or what the specific niche is. The one I wrote down in my notes was the Ultimate Alternative Medicine Practicioner, tying in the medicinal uses of dandelions and therapeutic uses of hypnotism. However, that title is a mouthful, and there are definitely other options. I sort of wanted the talent to just be someone who believes in spiritual practices, but given that a spiritualist is apparently someone who believes in talking to ghosts, the best name I could come up with for that was Ultimate Believer. hwR could also be something like an Ultimate Fortune Teller or a straight up Hypnotist, or a Lucky Student who really leans into the title. There are plenty of options, but I think it’s something in this genre.
Tumblr media
This guy is fun! The fashion is pretty plain so there’s not a lot to work with, but I’ll give it my best shot.
As compared to 8CT (the one with the curly hair), Jfl at least has the very obvious symbol on their shirt to point us in the right direction. I’m pretty sure those are audio levels, which means that their talent probably combines something with sound with something with technology. I don’t know why they would need a lot of pockets or a hat with a visor for that, but hey, always good to be prepared.
The hat is pretty plain, but there is that green square on it. It may just be a large tab, as appears on many baseball caps to show off a logo. This one is blank, though, so it could be something else. It kind of looks like the press marker that appears on stereotypical reporter hats in, like, the 1920s, but those weren’t typically lime green, either (unless the black and white movies are fooling me hard).
The overall color scheme plus the fingerless gloves sort of make this character look like an Ultimate Hacker to me, but then I’m not sure what the connection to the audio levels are. They could also be something more like an Ultimate DJ, but the hat, jacket, and cargo pants make me feel like it’s something a little more active/outdoorsy. Thus, I’m going to go with the kinda-compromise that this character is the Ultimate Podcaster. In my mind, they would do some field reporting first (hence something that looks kind of like a reporter hat), and then come back to their home office and talk about it to publish in a podcast.
With my argument about the clothes feeling more outdoorsy, I have a few ideas for what the podcast could be about. The first is something along the lines of hunting cryptids. Jfl goes into the woods, looks around, and then reports their findings in, like, a ghost log. A little more in the realm of realism, Jfl could tail important figures around, either as a paparazzi-type person or someone who’s unraveling a conspiracy, and then release a report on them. That could also get Jfl involved in some kind of scuffle with XF-ture tech, which makes me lean more in that direction.
Tumblr media
With the fish scales, knA is pretty obviously nautically coded. Their talent probably has something to do with water, but, in what way? Let’s look at the other details.
Just like Nico, knA has slit eyes. In Nico’s design, it was meant to make them look catlike, due to their profession as the Ultimate Pet Therapist. Similarly, 9lt has horizontal slit eyes, which are meant to make them look like a sheep. It seems like these elongated pupils are meant to make us think of animals, so knA’s talent probably heads in that direction. They also have a catlike mouth ( :3 ) and wear a collar, which (like Nico) makes them lean feline. Maybe it’s a catfish? Or maybe that’s more of a personality beat.
On the other hand, knA’s eye pattern has two circles in it, a larger one that goes around the long pupil and a smaller one that’s sort of hidden behind it. In context, this most reminded me of a sonar/radar system, which sailors use at sea to make sure they aren’t running into anything. Through that lens, the belt(?) that wraps around their leg reminded me of an anchor wrapped around a post. That’s kinda confirmation bias with the water thing, but it may have been intentional.
To be honest, I was really back and forth on whether to call this character the Ultimate Angler or the Ultimate Diver, but by the bolding, you can tell I settled on the former. I liked Ultimate Diver because it would place the character more among the fish (why they’re coded as an animal) as opposed to someone who catches them. But also, cats are known for catching fish, right? Plus, my interpretations of a sonar and an anchor would connect the character to a boat, which is less important for diving and more important for fishing.
Tumblr media
Now this is the character that seems to be the talk of the town! And for good reason, too: they have a lot more recognizable imagery that specifically ties them to DRDT than anybody else.
First off, there’s the obvious XF-ture Tech logo, shaped like a hexagon, which appears on u1l’s jacket. That certainly connects them to the company in some way, whether they’re an employee or just someone who received some merch. This is extra interesting given that u1l wears the same pin that Min has on her design. In A History of Hope’s Peak, Min says she was sponsored by XF-Ture Tech, so maybe this guy was, too? It could be a kind of alternate company logo. Or it could have some kind of bug to listen in with. That’d be fun.
Otherwise, it’s pretty nondescript. They have regular eyes, a regular shirt, and a regular ol’ pink tie (other than the connection it may have to the Sleepy MV). The jacket is tied really weirdly at the bottom, kind of looking like a fish tail, but I think it’s a normal jacket. The boot design kind of reminded me of Xander’s, which could indicate that this character has to be prepared to run around.
Pinning down u1l’s talent is kinda hard because… honestly, I kinda feel like they’re just “Ultimate XF-Ture Tech Guy.” Like, they’re clearly connected to the company, and may be here as their representative. Thus, in my notes, I called this guy the Ultimate Technician.
A technician is “a worker in a field of technology who is proficient in the relevant field and technique, with a relatively practical understanding of the theoretical principles.” Is that vaguely tech-ish as hell? Yeah. Is XF-Ture a tech company that also does vague other things? Yeah. Ultimate Technician lets this u1l have a lot of skills yet not have to elaborate on it at all, which is something that I feel like they would enjoy. Just like how they might enjoy how all of us are chomping at the bit to learn more about them, and yet, we probably won’t hear anything for a while…
Tumblr media
A very pretty addition to the cast! I love their vibes. Time to figure out what they mean.
There’s a lot here that signifies wealth. The crown hairpin is very obvious in that regard, as is the cape. Purple is often thought of as a color of royalty, and uBg is wearing a lot of it. Same with the cape– it’s an article of clothing often worn by kings. Their eye pattern contains a diamond within a circle. Diamonds are a jewel; wealth, royalty, etc.
This character also has some elements of promiscuity to them. Garter socks (which is what I think is what they’re wearing on their left leg?) are typically thought of as a sexually-charged thing to wear, and their other leg is fully exposed (oh my!). You can also see their bra peeking out from under their shirt, as well as some cleavage. Is this related to talent, or just to personality? I’m not sure.
While it’s tempting to go with something more along the lines of Ultimate Celebrity or Ultimate Heiress, I’m actually kind of partial to my interpretation of Ultimate Treasure Hunter. They wear a crown because it’s the treasure they’ve won, and there are diamonds in their eyes because that’s what they’re looking for! The cape could read as more of a heroic/adventurer thing, and the gloves also feel like ones belonging to someone more active. I’m aware this has nothing to do with the promiscuous aspects, but… like I said, that could just relate to personality! Plus, if you’re traveling the world searching for treasure, you might want a chance to tour the people, too.
Tumblr media
Finally, we’ve returned to the probable sibling of 3Km, the potential Ultimate Wild Animal Tamer! If the similar color schemes and eye designs weren’t enough, the fact that their little chibis were obviously paired together makes it pretty obvious that they’re related. Assuming that everyone in this cast is the same age (18+), they would be twins.
However, I also want to propose that 3Km isn’t the only character XWu is “related” to. Remember how I mentioned that the XF-Ture logo was a hexagon? Well, the pattern in 3Km and XWu’s eyes is a hexagon. Could they also have a connection to XF-Ture tech, and thus, u1l? Maybe they’re part of the family who founded the company. It’s a big stretch, but it’s possible. Just wanted to bring it up.
Back to XWu, it’s interesting that they’re probably the twin of 3Km, ‘cause their designs are pretty opposite. While 3Km seems wild, XWu is very fancy. They have a chain, much like uBg; some boots that look sort of princely; and a very fancily-patterned vest. I didn’t notice while I was making my visual, but I think that the vest has snowflakes on it to mirror 3Km’s fire. Honestly, I don’t know if that means it’s more likely that it has something to do with their talents, or less…
I feel like XWu might have some kind of managerial talent. It could be something more business-y, related to XF-Ture Tech, or if 3Km is part of the circus, XWu could be, like, the Ultimate Ringleader. Leaning on the former, I settled for the Ultimate Business Consultant. I was thinking about 3Km going around the world taming animals or whatever, and XWu tagging along, making business connections and deals along the way. The “X” in their bangs makes me think that they might have a talent or personality that revolves around rejecting things. That could lean business leadership, so… yay?
-
And that’s that! To summarize, the cast of talents as I determined them were Ultimate Teacher, Ultimate Sharpshooter, Ultimate Wild Animal Tamer, Ultimate Stage Director, Ultimate Plush Maker, Ultimate Alternative Medicine Practicioner, Ultimate Podcaster, Ultimate Angler, Ultimate Technician, Ultimate Treasure Hunter, and Ultimate Business Consultant.
Obviously none of this is concrete, and I’m speculating based on very few details. I won’t be disappointed no matter what the talents are because, hey! We get more fangan content from DRDTdev either way! I feel like the Ultimate Winner with that fact.
I hope you all enjoyed reading this, and, if you have alternate interpretations or design elements I missed, I'd love to hear about them! I might make an update if we get any additional information any time soon.

okay it’s 04/18/2024- this is my prediction on how sherlock & co. is going to handle sherlock’s “death” (based on how I would do it if I was in charge)
the actual reichenbach episode won’t have the usual intro & content warnings, it’ll just be a lot of silence & ambient noise, then john saying something along the lines of “whatever. here it is.” then cut straight into the episode. the outro is largely silent like the intro, & it ends with john saying that the podcast is over & not to try to contact him
immediately after that episode is released, all of john’s social media accounts disappear. this is essential. there is no longer any fan interaction because the show’s internet presence is gone completely
when the season break/hiatus/whatever is almost over, have john’s twitter come back, but it’s blank, & the only info is a “…” in the bio
the first tweet on this account is a link to the new episode, followed by some kind of announcement for the show being back
the first episode back goes like this:
intro- john apologizes for his disappearance & thanks the listeners for their concern. he explains that the podcast may or may not be back to stay, but he’s releasing this episode because ppl deserve to know what happened. he gives content warnings & the usual stuff, then cuts straight into audio-
john is on facetime with his mom (hence why there’s a recording); we hear her ask if john just saw something move behind him on the camera, then just absolute pandemonium. scraps of dialogue communicate “sherlock”, “wallpaper”, etc., then the recording ends abruptly
the recording picks up again but more professionally, and john belabors a debrief to the audience explaining that sherlock is not dead anymore, was never dead in the first place, as it turns out, & is currently in 221A nursing a black eye & a broken nose, but john is about to invite him back in to explain himself
proceed from here
anyway. this is how I would do it if I was them so I’m posting it now so there’s a record in case I’m totally right (like with that batshit crazy doctor who dream)

ohhhh my god vent post that has nothing to do with any of you but. there has been a new development in some shit going on with my friend and it is making me feel crazy
OVER 3 YEARS ago my good friend posted on twitter saying like “hey please be careful and thoughtful about who you give your money to” because there was a girl from our uni suicide baiting online over not getting financial donations, which my friend had reason to believe she was not using for medical funds as she said she was. which like. yes i am currently e-begging for my top surgery funds? but i am not like… saying i am going to kms if my uni community full of also very poor, also very disabled people does not give me money + i’m being very transparent about what those funds are going towards? i literally feel guilty about it all the time partly BECAUSE of this girl if i’m being real.
but anyway, my friend never ONCE said “[girl’s name] is faking her disabilities for money.” they said “hey disabled community @ our uni, please be careful and thoughtful with your coins”. and after seeing those tweets, that girl’s brother reached out to my friend saying “thank you for posting this, because you know that gofundme she made for my dental work? i never saw a dime of it!”
and obviously this really bothered my friend! so they tried to dm the girl to speak one on one about it! because they did not want to make a huge public deal about it, and the girl seemed like she was not doing well and had many people— including my friend and i— genuinely worried for her safety.
AND IN RESPONSE. the girl tweeted out my friend’s full deadname (how did she even find that), tweeted that they were STALKING her, and claimed they were accusing her of faking her disabilities. AND accused them of trying to break into her house?! AND threatened to call the cops on them?!
for context: my friend is also disabled + neither of us knows where this girl lives but we assume it’s near-ish our uni campus, and my friend was living an hour away / was very definitely at work in a faraway town during the supposed ‘stalking hours’ and just very obviously Did Not Do Any Of Those Things + threatening to call the cops on a visibly queer, mentally ill and disabled person is not an okay thing to do
BUT ANYWAY. it caused all sorts of weird accusations @ my friend . but this was THREE YEARS AGO. they blocked each other on twitter + i blocked the girl because she blocked me for being publicly besties with her “stalker” + my friend and i basically moved on and never thought about it again except once in a while to be like “damn that was crazy. BUT Y’ALL
THERE’S SOME STUFF GOING DOWN ON BOOKTWITTER RIGHT NOW RIGHT? UNRELATED TO ANY OF THIS? A white woman who is a debut SFF author got exposed for making burner accounts on Goodreads under stereotypically brown/Black names to review bomb books by WOC / BIPOC. Heinous shit which does not involve any of us, except the fact that me, my friend, and that girl were all in the creative writing department at our uni / are all writers and thus care greatly about the community involved.
BUT SO. A FRIEND OF MY FRIEND. TEXTED THEM TODAY WITH SOME TWITTER SCREENSHOTS? BECAUSE THAT GIRL WAS TWEETING ABOUT THE BOOK COMMUNITY DRAMA. AND SOMEHOW RELATED IT TO THE SITUATION FROM 3 YEARS AGO? AND STARTED MAKING NEW ACCUSATIONS?
SHE SAID. That she never found HER courage to release HER OWN creative writing due to HER white woman stalker. Y’ALL. 1) SHE WAS NEVER ACTUALLY STALKED. 2) SHE IS ALSO WHITE. (spicy white, yes, European White. but very clearly white.) AND 3) MY FRIEND IS NOT A WOMAN (they are white though lmao).
AND SHE HAS NEWLY ACCUSED MY FRIEND . of being jealous that she is a published writer LMAO. my friend has been published since like HIGH SCHOOL, this has ZERO merit.
AND she claimed my friend has a ton of financial privilege because their rich doctor parents pay for everything— i will be transparent, my friend’s parents are in the medical field and do make a lot of money but first of all how does this girl even know that, second of all my friend works 2 separate jobs to support themself, and third they are very nearly estranged from both parents.
AND. this girl is now claiming my friend did the original shit she accused them of, the stalking and fake-claiming, because it would somehow make their honors thesis “more prominent”?! my friend got highest honors for their 50 page senior thesis on their own lmao does she really think our uni professors cared and/or knew about any of that?
ALSO she has now THREATENED my friend by tweeting part of their deadname again, misgendering them, and saying, direct quote: “lol you didn’t think I’d release all those lil details but um- rest assured, you will never go down very well as a debut author bc I got my receipts saved of you stalking my friends and fam”
WHAT ????????

I haven't done lists in a while and there's a lot pilling up just this week so it's time to bring it back.
1. I'm revisting Old Hollywood again now that I've watched most of the films nominated for Oscar this year. The Be Kind Rewind youtube channel has been sort of the trigger for going back to the past and for that I have to thank @shimako for the recommendation 🩷 I've watched the 2 hour and a half video essays on the Valley of The Dolls and the behind the scenes story is far more interesting that the film itself.
Tumblr media
Not to say that the themes addressed in the film wouldn't be, like disillusionment in Hollywood, personal grievances, what it means to be an actress and especially not a really succesful one. It reminded me of Didion's Play It As It Lays (which I think it's a better piece of literature although the film adaption seems to have turned into a failure?)
2. Anyway, that made me go down the rabbit hole and watch other essays on Ruth Gordon (amazing woman) and Katharine Hepburn.
3 . Speaking of Hepburn, I realized yesterday that I've only seen her paired on screen with Cary Grant and not with Spencer Tracy (I know!). So I rectified that mistake and I watched Adam's Rib (George Cukor, 1949) and I finally understood what all the fuss was about and I have some sort of theory. Grant and Hepburn together are like this very performative version of a couple in which the constant bickering takes center stage, but even when they do get together, it lacks something. A bit of authenticity. But with the Hepburn-Tracy duo, you can almost feel it. It's right there in the small, natural gestures. Instant chemistry and love. They work so well together. I guess the off screen affair of 26 years helped that as well.
Tumblr media
3. I love Mommy Dearest and Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford. The screaming, the crying, the makeup, "No wire hangers!". Poor baby Christina. It's a shame though that Faye Dunaway distanced herself from it because of how "bad" it turned out, but I understand why she felt she had to do it.
But I also couldn't help but think of DeNiro in Cape Fear and his own campy performance in a very 90s ridiculous film that allowed Scorsese to try his hand at that type of thriller. DeNiro's career didn't suffer because of it, as opposed to Dunaway's version of camp, which I prefer actually. It may have been hated at that time, but Mommie Dearest is a cult classic.

*Bonus: Currently listening to another You Must Remember This podcast series. It's Gossip Girls: Louella Parsons and Hedda Hopper, aka the famous old Hollywood gossip columnists.
Now, for some ridiculous internet & showbiz drama:
4. People going conspiracy mode over Kate Middleton? Some of us lived months without any sign from Jimin. They could learn from that. But love the memes.
5. I feel sorry for those kids in Glasgow. They really experienced the effects of AI used by assholes who wanted to make some money. The lady in green hair has been all over twitter and whilst funny for us, it is shitty to be in her shoes. The Unknown! 🤦‍♀️
6. Who was an ass to Rebecca Ferguson on set? The consensus is that Jake Gyllenhaal was the culprit and I wouldn't be surprised. But it needs more investigating.
7. Over in K-Pop Land Karina gets a boyfriend, her fans are devasted and Koreaboo is pumping "articles" by the minute. What else is new?
8. Stans of all types are stanning and fighting. One day 🐥 girlies, the next day 🐰 girlies and all the other crazies all week long, no break. I do read the stuff in my inbox, but I'm really not in a mood to comment on every shitty thing that happens so often. I know that once I do it, then I just invite more and it's just pointless. There's no actual JM and JK which is frustrating enough and no travel show on the horizon and it's just too bleak at this point.
Tumblr media
We're waiting, clock is ticking. At least release a travel show as a summer content, ok?
9. I did see that Billboard kpop 100 top. Yeah, I don't understand the logic of including individual artists if they haven't charted on their own. Don't these people have editors to point out the flaws in the listicles? It's just dumb.

foof. typing this out on tumblr because it feels easier to collect my thoughts here rather than twitter, lmfao, but MAN my creative well is bone dry rn, i feel like i have zero energy and motivation to work on projects and i just. it's driving me crazy lmfao, and in the back of my mind i know i'm burnt out and need a break, but it's so hard to take a break, because like, i don't have much else going on in my life rn, or ever, like fandom has always been a huge, important part of my life and i don't rly know what to do or who i am if im not obsessed over SOMETHING lmfao. my gf said last night something like, i guess it's hard to take a break when it's related to a hyperfixation/special interest and like!! yeah!! it's rly hard to untangle all of that!
but. idk. i don't feel happy rn with a lot of things irl and online, and i know i need to rest and do nothing and let the well fill up again but that also scares me? so i am just going to try to ease up on myself a little bit, try to go more than a day without feeling compelled to post something new just because i'm afraid ppl will leave or forget me or something if i don't constantly pump out Content. and i know i did this to myself, lmfao, i rly don't know how to do things in moderation and this is a constant cycle of going too hard and then abruptly losing all interest
my gf sent me this last night and even the first paragraph got me!!! like, that's ME!!!
Tumblr media
i am in the reluctant admission stage rn lmfao.
i am not going to say i am completely going to stop creating during this time, because that would be a lie, but i am rly going to try and chill tf out, stop worrying about getting fics done in time for mermay, and just kinda try to recharge. and i don't wanna say this is a firm break or whatever because when i inevitably fail at taking a break, i will end up beating up on myself, so im just gonna say i am gonna try to be like...... idk, creative Lite or something for a little bit.
im still gonna be around every day lmfao, but probably for less time than usual. i'm still gonna reblog/retweet things, and i'll probably have some original stuff as well, but i am not gonna keep holding myself to the impossible standard of having something new every day. and i know no one else expects that of me!!! but i have somehow put that expectation on myself. i can use this time to share some old favorites again instead!!
i just started a new game+ in coral island, so ive got that going for me, lmfao, and it's getting nicer outside finally and i rly truly need to touch grass more often!! idk why i always feel like i need a huge explanation for what i do, and it probably wont even be super noticeable to most ppl lol, but!! idk. sometimes i just need to work things out this way.
so, i am releasing myself of the burden of having some fics done for mermay, and posting daily, and feeling like i have to make tangible progress on creative projects on the regular. or, that is my goal, at any rate. i think i'll just focus on gifs/still shots for mermay, my fics will be ready when they are ready 😤 but even if i don't do that much, it's okay!!! mermaids are good any time of the year imho.
i just need to get to a point where i actually Enjoy the process of creating again, because it feels like a chore rn and i hate that :((((
idk, anyway if u read all this thank u, thank u for following me and liking what i do, here is an old gif for ur troubles

unfortunely for me, my experience with this fandom was the opposite. I have been listening to Taylor's music since Fearless and it was just me and her music. I knew a few things about her, but nothing about the fandom, nothing too deep. It was so peaceful.
Then by 1989, I took a step back from her new music just because it wasn't really my preferred gente. Nothing against her. In 2016, everything was so out there that it made it impossible not to know some stuff and because I really don't like chaos I decided it probably wasn't a good time to go back. Everything just felt too messy, she seemed dead set to prove she was doing well, then LWYMMD came out and I was like...oh boy I don't like this petty vibe at all.
Long story short: I just listened to her old music and focused on other hobbies for a long time, never interacted with this fandom at all. I got pulled back in because of the re-recordings and people on twitter. She seemed more mature than before, so I decided to listen to everything I missed. Around the Midnights release I started to get into the fandom. Big big mistake. Specially a big mistake since this year.
And the thing is, I want to pull back. This is not a healthy, fun fandom to be in most of the days for me. I don't call myself a swiftie, because tbh my values and personality don't align with this fandom's behaviour. It feels like a cult (and now people say it as a joke, but it's not the home you think it is). Everyone is always arguing and going to war to defend a celebrity they don't know. Everyone is always hating on everyone that Taylor stops liking or stops being in her life anymore. It's just stressful to me. I'm trying to find a way to just go back to not knowing anything of this fandom and just listen to the music. And I'll be the first to admit I'm stupid cause I know it's not good to me and yet idk how to turn it off. Like it has come to the point where I'm in the fandom and yet listening to her music hasn't even been in my top priorities, it should be the other way around
as someone who has been able to step back (still not much as i'd like but you know) it really is crazy how much stuff is so normalized. like it's all hindsight but my god you're right it's so unnecessarily stressful. so much of it is crossing so many boundaries and being so invasive, i really don't care about most of the things they do and just wanna like the music tbh.
when i stepped back i just unfollowed a bunch of people who seemed to care about that (also this was all during the matty situation so those people were also defending her actions so it made it really easy) and that seemed to help the stepping-back process a little.

I'm celluloidbroomcloset's anon about SPN fandom. You're very lucky! In my corner of the fandom the fans don't even know Buckleming are two people, think Bobo (BOBO!) is pro-wincest, and are convinced "the writers" have been gaslighting us all along. To these fans there's no such thing as corporate interference, "the writers" hate us and call us crazy, queer coding is just another word for queerbait, and Destiel only exists because of Misha and the fandom. They're on every script release post and deleted scene gifset screaming how dare "the writers" cut this and how dare they call us crazy for seeing Destiel.* "The secret good SPN that lives in my head" is their favorite phrase and calling everything good "the writers" did just a happy accident is their favorite hobby. That bit I said about people saying the writers suck on the scripts they wrote is not hyperbole. I have seen it said, right after going on about how shippy the cut scenes are, far more often than should ever happen.
Maybe it's not fair to paint all of us transplanted SPN fans with the same brush, but I do know some of those same people I fought with over things like the Cas and Crowley "maybe he's your boyfriend" scene or the script-cut scene of Dean spreading Cas's ashes at the windmill are here as well. I am also a fandom old, been here since the beginning, and have been fighting against the nonexistent monolith of "the writers" since about season eight. "The Writers Suck" has been an SPN fandom mantra for a very long time and it does spread to other fandoms SPN fans who shout it have moved into.
You are, again, very lucky and I am glad you've gotten to see some of the best of the SPN fandom. I am not so lucky and have seen all of the worst and it is getting a foothold in OFMD. I don't want it to spread more than it already has.
*"The writers" calling us crazy is entirely made up, twisted from an incident when an executive for WB was bullied off twitter by Destiel fans because he didn't know Destiel was a thing. It led to a hard pushback on Destiel from corporate, which led to the infamous "three straight guys" press releases for season nine, and is the origin of Misha's "you're not crazy" tweet. It had nothing at all to do with "the writers" save for forcing them into even more heavy queer coding and dodging censorship.
Hello!
I will start by saying that I too have seen instances of people blaming the writers, but they have not been the most prominent. So, I know it is a thing. But for the most part, I have seen mainly CW and WB said as the queer censors.
I think our experiences are very different for two reasons: while I watched SPN pretty much from the beginning, I did not join the fandom until after the finale. And I joined SPN twt, which you have to heavily start muting or blocking people. I highly curated my tl, so most people who told me Cas' love confession was platonic or would tell me that I was wrong for saying the finale was bad were not present. Of course, I still get those people coming onto my posts, but not as much.
I joined Tumblr just over a year ago, and I have just started moving over my filmmaking metas.
And living in the trenches of it like you have as everything has been developing, and coming in after, being able to look at SPN as a whole can lead to very different outcomes and experiences.
I did not have to experience live the disagreements, but I have caught up on many of them as well as all the new stuff that has happened after the finale.
I am very confused about what side of the fandom you are on - at first I thought it sounded like the brothers first side, but then you talked about the "good spn that lives in my head" and I have seen that a lot with the Destiel side (to be fair, I have heavily blocked bronlys since I am a TFW fan). I'm not quite sure how someone can think Bobo is pro-wincest. He wrote the second divorce arc and Cas' love confession, tying phrases from as early as Cas' introduction into the speech. And for Dean's side, just like when Mary died the second time, he cries and goes mute (which is what he does when he is overwhelmed emotionally). Sam called him and he didn't pick up, crying on the floor. That shows how much he cares about Cas, he's in so much grief he cannot pick up the phone for Sam.
Ok, moving on. I guess my "side" of the fandom is analytical. I personally study the writers and the filmmaking (cinematography and camerawork) and how those aid in the character and plot development. I am also personally in the middle where I love all of TFW (honestly every character on the show) but also ship Destiel. I can tell you exactly which writers I like (Edlund, Thompson, Carver, Perez, and such) and which I don't (Buckleming - they will always have a weird sexual thing or take Dean back down to S1 basics in their episodes.)
One of my biggest pet peeves in fandom are people blaming writers for decisions that were made later on down the line. And I have pushed back on that numerous times. It makes me sad to know that this is still prevalent and that it is being spread to other fandoms. I can only hope that changes in the future.
I have seen a huge divide in the people I know who are both SPN and OFMD fans. And most of that revolves around Izzy's character. But that's another topic for another day.
I'm trying to remember if I have seen any "blaming" of the writers in the OFMD fandom. I have unfortunately seen some: mainly criticism of DJ and how the ending of S2 went down. I think most of that deals with how you felt about Izzy's death (I've seen several people say it is exactly like Dean's - I personally do not agree with that, yes it has echoes, but Izzy and Dean are entirely different characters and represent entirely different arcs and ethos in the show).
Also used to weaponize the OFMD ending is the "the ending will be satisfying." I could write a whole essay about this, but just like with SPN, a very divided fandom, I've come to see OFMD is also very divided, so no, the finale was not going to be satisfying to everyone. Especially because it is the end of an Act II of III, the famously darkest moment/plotpoint of a story. BUT there was no cliffhanger, there are threads to follow with everyone's story. There is hope and love and joy. And that is "satisfying."
I feel like this is a long response and I apologize if it turned into rambling. I guess that's what happens when you're a writer. Lol.
I completely agree with you. I am worried about blaming the writers gaining a foothold in another fandom. Especially on a show that at every turn has shown how much care they have put into the show. That allows a collaborative environment for the cast and crew. That makes sure not to punch down. And has not made fun of fans and their beliefs and readings of the show (yes, that is a dig at SPN and how they treated fans) but instead embraces them. Samba went to set on days he didn't have to just to take videos for us!! I hope the fandom can embrace the love and hope the show radiates instead of giving into poison.

Release Date: August X, 2021 Episode Title: The Beginning of a New Chapter Run Time: 24:56 Minutes
Intro Song: Study Morning - Study + Chill Lofi
Mark: Hello, everyone! And welcome to the tenth and final episode of Season 2 of the Limitless Podcast. Are you all excited?
Johnny: We know, we know, we're going to miss you all too, but we have a lot of stuff planned for season 3!
Mark: That's right! Holy shit, you should see out desks at home, it's a whole mess it's embarrassing but, good news, we already have all of season 3's topics picked out and outlined so it'll be like we never even left.
Johnny: Yup, we're also still working on trying to get season 1 back from the void, but it's taking a lot longer than we thought. Turns out that literally nowhere archives these things so we're a little dejected, but it's okay. A lot of season 3's topics are callbacks to season 1.
Mark: Yeah, it's mostly because nearly all the topics we covered have since been updated, and that's kinda true for this season too.
Johnny: Oh, hell, I didn't even think of it that way, you're right, Mark. The news segment of this episode is going to run by pretty quickly.
Mark: Alright! News segment speed run! First of all we are seeing a mass of reemergence of vigilantes all over the place, not just in our country! It seems that the new team-up of vigilantes has inspired both new and old names to join the fray once again. Just yesterday we saw Phantom return to London to stop what would have been the biggest museum heist in history!
Johnny: Yeah, but then he took the gem the original thieves wanted.
Mark: He literally outdid the doers! Like, at that rate I would've just let him take it too, not gonna lie.
Johnny: Nah, you're right, Phantom's "anti" heist was just so well done that so many people applauded it.
Mark: For real, it was trending on TikTok for a while and you know what? Deserved. It was so cool to hear him break it down.
Johnny: Speaking of TikTok, actually, it's kind of interesting how this new wave of vigilantism has really pushed some people into the social media stage. Like Radiohead, for example, has started using Instagram a lot more.
Mark: Do you think it's like a debate, though? Like the vigilantes who only do good deeds on camera versus the ones who have no social media presence?
Johnny: Oh, definitely. I'm sure that there's probably some tension among old versus new vigilantes too, or at least I wouldn't be surprised if there was.
Mark: I can see the whole 'Golden Age' before the ban and 'Silver Age' post-ban arguments too, I've already seen a couple on Twitter and some of the arguments get so heated.
Johnny: The whole fanbase surrounding certain vigilantes is interesting in and of itself, I don't really want to call it a cult following, but it's interesting how certain vigilantes become these icons.
Mark: I mean, iconism of anything is kinda... dangerous, right?
Johnny: Always. But in cases where it's done right, see Aegis, they can become certain symbols of hope that people look to.
Mark: Not to play that card, but Aegis had a pretty hard fall from grace too when they became the Blackguard.
Johnny: But that is a topic we delve into more in season 3! You all better pull up to that, I think I'd go crazy if I saw the new season having the same ratings as this one.
Mark: Dude I'm just going crazy period, I never would have expected this podcast to blow up at all but here we are, corrected.
Johnny: Absolute insanity. We are so grateful for you guys that I don't even know where to start!
Mark: Ditto, I know you all were expecting some crazy topic about vigilantes that we delve into but really this episode is for all of you! If you remember our Twitter post after last episode, we asked you all to send in your most pressing questions and we picked a couple to answer.
Johnny: Yes, yes, and real quick we are definitely going to talk vigilantes! We haven't forgotten our roots! But this is a celebration episode for all of us and especially for all of you! And with that said... Drum roll please, Mark!
Mark: [Drums on the table TN: Please excuse the feedback] This is gonna be good.
Johnny: A word from our sponsors: Us! Our patreon is booming and I cannot thank you all enough! For those watching the livestream, you've probably noticed the new equipment on our tables here in addition to the huge bump in quality of the video feed. Thanks to all of your generous support we are finally able to support ourselves and this podcast! We will keep delivering you all the quality you deserve and we hope that you continue to support us in the future! So, with that, onto the special episode of the Limitless Podcast!
Shotaro: I think that's my cue to step in! You two ready for the first question?
Johnny: Hit us, Taro.
Shotaro: Okay! From user LandBeforetheTimes this is a question for both of you: Which episode from season 2 is your favorite and why?
Johnny: For me it was definitely the episode on Cypher and Cheshire, I've always been a huge fan of Cypher since the day they started being active and I'm still following their work.
Mark: Wait, wait, would you argue that Cypher spearheaded the vigilantes on social media movement?
Johnny: Ugh, the audacity! Cypher didn't just spearhead it, they perfected it.
Shotaro: Actually, if I may step in-
Johnny: You may.
Mark: Shoot.
Shotaro: I think I'd argue that Cypher isn't on social media at all. Sure, they hijack social media, they've even hijacked this podcast before-
Johnny: I think I cried tears of joy that day-
Mark: You did, there are clips of it floating around.
Shotaro: But Cypher isn't following the usual MO of social media vigilantes. They don't "consistently" upload, for one, and for two Cypher has never revealed even a silhouette of who they are. There's absolutely no presence that they even exist.
Johnny: The perfect status for a hacker, in my opinion.
Shotaro: Exactly. But what about you Mark, favorite episode?
Mark: Oh, the Aces! I've always been a huge fan of them since they were an underdog team.
Johnny: Damn, that's right! I completely forgot they weren't that big when they started.
Mark: Yeah, they were easily outshone by the other already existing groups. I think it was their showdown with Alis that really solidified them on the playing field.
Johnny: Or should you say... playing table? [Laughs]
Mark: Oh, ha ha, very funny, I see what you did there.
Johnny: Wait but how did you feel about them disbanding? Just curious, I don't think we ever talked about it.
Mark: Heartbroken, obviously. But to be exact about it they never really disbanded, they kind of just... uh... fell apart, I guess. After what happened to Hearts and Diamonds I get why though.
Johnny: I think that was really one of the first actual "tragedies" that happened to vigilantes, I think things got a little more real after Diamonds passed away.
Mark: Yeah, exactly. A lot of vigilantes I think dropped out of the business once the details got released. I know Zero, Superhuman, and Sogdo for sure announced that they were done.
Johnny: Whoa, I haven't heard those names in a while! Actually, on the topic of Superhuman and Sogdo, I know next season we're going to talk a lot about vigilantes like them.
Mark: Oh yeah! Honestly, I know I shouldn't say it but it's kind of cool how certain people will take what would have been an unfortunate accident and turned it into a way to help out those in need.
Johnny: That's what I was thinking. The sudden emergence of vigilantes with, like, actual "superpowers" is another growing movement that I heard is pretty loaded in online communities.
Mark: Right, the whole "who does it better" argument, I feel like that's never going to go away though.
Johnny: Very true, but, let's try to get more questions in for today's episode. Shotaro, fire away!
Shotaro: Yessir! So up next is from Twitter user TheGrimDoggo! They ask: "If you could interview any of the season 2 vigilantes without any consequence, who would it be and why?"
Mark: Easy! I would... wait, actually? Let me think about that.
Johnny: I thought you said you liked the Aces!
Mark: I do! I do, but you know what they say, "Never meet your heroes."
Johnny: I mean from what I heard if you're innocent the Aces were very careful around you
Mark: Yeah, but then you hear about what happened to the people they beat the shit out of and you're like "damn."
Johnny: Damn? Damn? [Laughs]
Shotaro: [Also Laughing]
Mark: What? [Laughs]
Johnny: Dude, haven't you seen that one documentary about people who were beaten up by vigilantes? The dude who Diamonds punched has a permanently shifted jaw, that's like... horrible.
Mark: Oh... damn.
Johnny: [Laughing] Dude!
Mark: Sorry, sorry, that was insensitive I know, let's just do the last question, yeah?
Johnny: Last...? Oh, shit, we've been going on for a while now, huh? Okay, Taro, hit us!
Shotaro: Sure, so this last one is from the Twitter user GlitchedMask and says "hi! i've been a huge fan of the LP since it was still just a Twitter account! anyway for my question, hypothetically, if you could get it back, where would you like to have season 1?"
Mark: Whoa, they're like a super OG fan of ours then!
Johnny: For those of you who don't know, for the longest time the Limitless Podcast was actually just a blog on Twitter, and back then we were just called 'Limitless.'
Mark: Yeah, even the first episode of the podcast was supposed to be just that. One of the vigilantes we wanted to cover had so much going on with them that we found it easier to just, like, talk about it.
Johnny: Exactly. And then it kind of stuck, a lot of our followers loved the idea so we kept doing it and, badaboom badabang, the Limitless Podcast was born!
Mark: And we are so glad you all love it! But to answer the question, obviously, we'd like to have it on all our platforms, ya know? Patreon, Spotify, Podcasts, and etc.
Johnny: Yup, it would be nice to have it back, but we know it's been, like, permanently removed. That's on us though for not backing up our data.
Mark: Still sucks, though.
Johnny: Oh, yeah, it sucks ass.
Mark: All good though! But, for now at least, that's all the time we have today! As always, thank you all for listening or watching, we will always appreciate your viewership and support.
Johnny: And just to go through the checklist, subscribe to our Patreon! Follow us on Twitter, check out our Carrd, and- Oh yeah! Buy Crys a kofi! She's back from her bender.
[TN: Drink responsibly, kids.]
Mark: Love her for that.
Johnny: We'll see you guys in the next season!
Mark: Until- Why's the monitor doing that?
Johnny: Doing what?
Shotaro: Uh... it's frozen.
Johnny: Huh?! No, nah, don't tell me we have to rerecord.
Shotaro: No, it's just frozen and- Aw man the mics are out too!
[TN: From here on out their mics are shut off so their voices are a little muffled but I'll do my best!]
Johnny: Uh, try troubleshooting real quick, are we still live?
Shotaro: Yes, sir. But the streams frozen for them too. They can hear us though.
Johnny: Got it, not to worry everyone! We'll fix this in a second.
Mark: Hey! The monitor stopped frizzing out, looks like the picture is coming back.
Cypher: [TN: Ohmygodohmygodohmygod] Hello, this is Cypher, I am hijacking this feed from a further area. I love this podcast, so I decided to show my love by recovering Season 1. I will send the file over to both of these lovely hosts and, until then, I cannot wait for season 3. Please talk about me nicely. I'll do the honors of ending the stream for you all.

Hi, hope you don't mind me asking questions but I'll admit my government and legalize on this side is weaker and I'm watching multiple sources to try to get a clear idea on some of this but you also seem knowledgeable and passionate so also asking questions. Before the order to release the redacted affidavit many said it wouldn't happen cause they don't do that and from my understanding Trump never actually filed anything to have it happen. Do you think they did it to cut that argument before Trump could get followers to turn up the heat/donate money or why do you think/know they did that?
Well, it depends on who you mean by "many said," because the idiots on Twitter who are suddenly an expert on whatever socio- or geopolitical issue happens to be going on (COVID, electoral law, the war in Ukraine, gas prices, and now evidently the niceties and nuances of federal criminal investigations against former presidents) usually don't have a clue, and are just making up shit as they please. Plus, this is all in unprecedented territory, legally speaking, so actually nobody knows what's going to happen. We can make educated guesses (some, uh, more educated than others), but yeah, the peanut gallery of public opinion is especially bad as a barometer of such.
It's true, as far as I know, that they don't do this for most cases, but then, most cases aren't against, again, the former president of the USA who is under actual, literal investigation for treason, collaboration, sedition, plans to overthrow the government, etc. I mean, it sounds like a bad James Patterson novel; it's that far-fetched. The DOJ cited "public interest" in filing to release the warrant in the first place, because obviously it became a huge issue, Trump's crazy followers were busy threatening MORE treason (they just can't help themselves) and Trump himself is still the de facto head of a major American political party that has lurched wildly to the fascist right in the unfortunate few years since he came onto the scene. So there are a lot of levels here that simply aren't the case for ordinary DOJ proceedings (which lbr, nobody cares about anyway unless it's literally their job to do so). Hence, relying on "precedent" doesn't work here, because again... there is no precedent. This is totally new.
As I understand it, the DOJ moved to release the redacted affidavit because Trump was threatening to request it released UNredacted (since he's too much of a fucking idiot to stop making things worse for himself). He almost undoubtedly wanted this so his crazy followers could have access to the names of the FBI agent(s) who filed the affidavit and carried out the search, since the MAGAts have now declared war on the whole agency anyway. But seeing as almost the whole damn thing was blacked out, that means there's stuff in there that the DOJ can't release for fear of compromising their investigation and/or which is too sensitive for public dissemination (not surprising, given the materials involved). All of this is information which Trump may or may not know, and if he learns exactly what they have against him, he's obviously going to try to blow it up. So the DOJ made the move first to get permission to seal the original and only release the redacted version, because yet again, as with their whole "RELEASE THE WARRANT!" screaming that quickly went quiet when Merrick Garland called their bluff and did exactly that, they somehow think that actually releasing MORE proof will not be EVEN WORSE for them. Which, uh. Is not working the way they expected.
So yes: the DOJ needs to keep a lot of this stuff out of the public eye, they can't have it widely known for fear of compromising what they're doing against Trump, they need to protect the FBI people involved with this, and they obviously know that Trump's calls to RELEASE STUFF are only going to backfire on him, because everything that comes out only makes him look worse and worse (which was difficult, but here we are). So that's why they did it.

I hate to sound like rad but where the hell is Louis and his promo?there are 9days until his album is out and he is MIA and has only those record signings announced.no radioplay or tv performances! they are acting as if he is taylor swift so he can drop album and be mia.not to mention the promo that he does is focused on his fatherhood which ok if you are doing other interesting stuff but how the hell is that going to sell anything?its like this promo cycle is/was used to show us we are all crazy and he is indeed father but all the other stuff is boring too-constant talk about drinking and him not doing anything besides watchin rubish tv-they turned him into caricature.
I don't think simply expressing some criticism and concern over the direction of Louis' promo strategy qualifies you as a rad (you'd have to blame Harry and Jeff for all of that first lmao).
Having said that, I do admit I don't understand where all of this is going. I think where lthq failed first, was when announcing the album in general. They had one chance to grab the gp's attention and they didn't make use of it. In my opinion, a comeback for an artist like Louis should be with a bang, so that all eyes could be on him and personally I think that neither the album cover nor lead single were exciting enough for that.
I'm just confused because Louis presumably spent 3 years crafting this album, we know he has been writing in 2020 already but whatever is happening now feels kinda.... half-assed? Like the main purpose of releasing this album is going back on tour and having an excuse to talk about his "son" so that he can assure his parenthood lmao. All that with the image they are giving him that I would also lean towards saying that it makes him a caricature. He comes off as a lazy manchild who spends his days partying and sleeping and doesn't like anything when we know that his mind and Louis himself is much more than that! I don't know why they're insisting on dumbing him down and erasing his uniqueness but here we are.
It's 9 days before the release, the fandom is almost dead, gp has no idea he is coming out with new music and they still try driving us away. I really, really think that it will eventually bite them in the ass because at some point the twitter fans who are here only because they think everything is ending soon will leave when they'll realize it's not. Wish I could tell you if it's his teams arrogance, incompetence or they just simply have their hands tied but I'm just really lost.

I'm gonna join this 💀-
I've never really gotten into Black Pink, I cant tell you why exactly but I think it's because I've never actually connected with the music??? And the fandom clashes were too often with Blinks. Dont get me wrong, a lot fandoms are like this- everyone has toxic/crazy fans but man, the things some of them said were HORRIFIC.
Honestly I liked dynamite as well LMAO- I like all of their music, generally. From their early days debuting to now. I became an Army when I was young and they were freshly debuting, like around 7-8 and so perhaps I have an overwhelming bias but I support wherever they want to go with their music. I'm literally a metal head that listens to Kpop the other half of the time 🕴 these dudes made me switch my taste sjdhsksj. I also dont listen to pure rap BUT FOR JHOPE, RM, AND YOONGI - Anything is possible. I say that as if I dont have Jhopes music on repeat aidjsjsj
And like, the only people I see get pissy over Jimins looks is people who dont like them. I've seen "army"s talk shit over Namjoons and Hoseoks looks though. Dont get me wrong you can have your opinions and preferences but you ain't gotta be an ass about it and express it ever 5 minutes and where the idols can see it. I was fuming when I saw it; they were so rude and disrespectful.
i'm so happy to talk kpop omg anyone can jump in at anytime <3
yeah i didn't really have an ult group nailed down for a year or two!! i mean, i loooved bts, but i listened to a lot of everybody. it wasn't until i got into seventeen and ateez and monsta x that i was like oh my god they're it for me <333 so bp was catchy at the beginning but once i settled down it's not my style!
yeeeaaaah, i don't mean to be an asshole bc i know not all blinks are toxic but i've had so many bad experiences with them that it's like, better safe than sorry, right? i try to stay off of twitter and i've been distancing myself from kpop tiktok lately (i really only see stuff from my svt moots) so that i can hopefully avoid stupid fanwars
dynamite isn't the same style as the rest of their songs and it's an entirely different vibe so i can see if you view bts as their other songs and then this new one gets released and it's totally different, how it wouldn't be pleasant. but it's a guilty pleasure of mine!! it's just a feel-good kinda thing <3
metalhead kpop stans are actually the life of the fandom i think. thank u.
yeah yeah exactly i think jimin gets treated pretty well by kpop fans!! ugh the first bts mv i ever watched was run and i picked joon out of the lineup and i was like that one.. that one's my guy.. and he was <3

Hi! I hope you had a good weekend! Where did you go? Did you do anything fun? Happy Lunar New Year! Don't worry about the lengths of your replies at all. Mine will probably be shorter from now on too. How are you? I don't know which songs will be singles. Maybe the first two songs since one is a feature and those numbers are usually singles in an album..or number 3. I have like no idea for this album though but maybe we will get three singles like Midnights. I always tend to love the first 3 songs of every Taylor album so I'm also excited for those. I've also noticed I don't care for her number sevens as much lol, and I think her 10s are just okay. I haven't liked any song that's number 14 as much for her last few albums, but I actually love the Great War so hopefully I like the new one. I only noticed cuz it's one of my favorite numbers. Haha I hope that's not too crazy that I know that. But I always seem to love the first and last and title songs. I haven't seen the rumored list except someone that worked on a few Lover songs worked on a few songs so that's interesting and gives some ideas of what it will sound like. I'm sure Aaron worked on a few songs too. There seems to be a lot of upcoming music I'm looking forward to..even before her album comes out. Ariana Grande has a new album and Beyonce announced her Act 2 album and released two songs! They are so good and I'm really interested to see her do a full country album. Ariana's album comes out the beginning of next month, the same day as Bleachers actually, and Beyonce's is the end of next month! We are also expecting twenty one pilots new music by the end of this month and I'm curious when their album will come out too. What have you been listening to recently or what are some albums you're looking forward to?
Speaking of Ariana, the first look and trailer for Wicked premiered last night. What are your thoughts? I've watched it a few times and think it's okay. I don't really know what I expected from it but I don't know how to feel. I like Ariana I guess but idk if she is exactly Glinda to me but I don't really know who else I would want either. It didn't really show enough but I thought the actual movie and trailer at least looked nice, with the colors and stuff. I am still not sure about the two parts thing though and I'm wondering if that's why it didn't show much? I admit I am more familiar with Act 1. I like Cynthia and think the movie has potential but it doesn't feel like Wicked either to me yet. I think they also said the movie might add stuff from the book, so I might read it before the movie comes out. I love Wicked a lot though, more than other musicals and have been waiting forever for a movie version. I'm sure a lot of other people have too and have mixed feelings. I feel the same way for now but I'm definitely seeing the movie anyway. What do you think about it?
Also I love your new url! I can't believe she played that song when I don't think she's played it live before. She did that with a few songs during these shows with Eyes Open and Electric Touch and Superman lol. I actually have no idea what surprise songs to guess anymore haha. I will probably send you my guesses later this week though. Do you have any guesses? I'm so curious if she will share more about the album in the next few weeks or if she will play a new song before it's out but I doubt it. Do you think she will add it to the show in some way or even wear any new costumes? I guess I can't decide or how that would be. I can't believe we were all expecting rep at this point and she even said she would have announced the new album at a show, but it feels so crazy now. I thought this ask would be shorter, but they always look long anyway. You don't have to worry about replying either or it can be shorter. My reply was also late so I understand but I hope you have a great week.
hellooo friend! hope you've been well — i saw something on twitter about a 21p album and thought of you today! i was in california, visiting some family!
it's always nice to see family — got to eat a lot of good food and a lot of (much needed) sunshine! wait what's your least favorite number seven? i don't think i've ever noticed a pattern of some sorts for my favorite/least favorites, now that you mention it! i loveeee the great war, it's probably in my top 5 on midnights — dear reader, mastermind, yoyok, the great war, and paris. in no particular order. i've been listening to a lot of holly humberstone lately as usual, but most recently have been spinning the last dinner party! last week my favorites were the rosie darling album "lanterns", as well as the kaitlyn tarver album "quitter". what about you? i'm super excited for the new bleachers, new holly EP, new beyonce — lots of good music for the month of march!
i actually somehow still have not seen the wicked trailer in full 😭 but my friends seem very mixed on it (mostly not a fan). i'm wondering if i should try to read the book before seeing it, since i feel like there'll be more book influence? maybe? hopefully? but from the stills i've seen, i still have a very hard time imagining ... everyone ... as their characters haha.
ugh i love the outside! i used to listen to it in the car constantly as an incredibly lonely little girl who didn't fit in at school and just moved to a new country. it's one of the songs i'm most excited for on debut tv — aside from tied together with a smile, cold as you, and invisible. debut is just... a perfect album to me. very nostalgic.
we have a show tonight! i wonder what she'll sing! i'm likely going to be up for surprise songs (i have some friends going, so i'm hoping to watch their surprise songs); i feel like it'll be from some more recent albums (maybe rep? maybe lover?); i feel like she hasn't sang from them in a while! i don't think she'll add a TTPD set — eras is already so long, they'd have to go back into rehearsals/choreo for it, it just feels like a bit of a logistical nightmare — especially when you consider the movie, and that she's already toured for so long. my guess is we'll see it on the b-stage for surprise songs!! either way, i'm excited! that being said, if you were to cut maybe 5 songs from the current setlist to make a TTPD setlist, what 5 songs would you cut?
hope you're having a good week! love you! 🤍

#Uncool 50 - the index post
This is going to be an index for #Uncool50, my very personal list of the 50 greatest singles released on the Isles Trans-Manche since 1976. It serves as something of an autobiography, albeit patchy and partial.
The challenge requires strict chronological order. My write-up requires honesty, though some names and identifying details have been changed.
For Tumblr, I'll put the songs into little groups, slight ages of my life.
Childhood My kind of pop Video stars Crushes Rock and indie Not rock and indie University friends University years The greatest year for pop music Turn of the century American influences Falling in with my crowd Say you love me Designing a decade Snapping back
Also: the top 500 countdown: two and three nominations four and five nominations six and more nominations
Below the fold, an explanation of why I think a memory tape is the right way forward.
Almost fourteen years ago, the uncarved.org blog wrote,
It's curious how often music bloggers end up stuck in the rut of expanding their cultural capital. Yes yes, you saw it first, you know more, you have more records, you have a better analysis, you’re The Man. And always *so* tasteful.
Few find the time to write about aspects of their lives which might detract from their cred. Even the “ten records hiding at the back of your collection that no grown man should own” meme ended up being an exercise in wacky popism rather than abject embarrassment. Because we’ve already purged our collections of the really awful stuff – as part of the process of reinventing ourselves as dashing young things rather than spotty teenagers.
What has my year on the fringes of music Twitter taught me? That it's populated by angels, and we're all dancing on the tip of a very small pin. The bounds of discourse are shaped by existing cultural gatekeepers. It all works to reinforce the existing cultural boundaries, not break them down.
Music Twitter is haunted by the ghost of John Peel, it hews to the spectre of what we think we remember of his shows. Music Twitter pays homage to Peel's successors on 6 Music, picks from a surprisingly narrow definition of "alternative". It's interested in the BBC's annual "Sound of The New Year" poll, which actively rejects leftfield contributions. It's small, it's confining, it's a self-reinforcing echo chamber.
Arron Nonoxcol has set a challenge, #Uncool50. The 50 greatest singles of the post-punk/disco era. I could play this to accrete my own cultural capital, thirty-five singles from the 6 Music library, ten from Radio 2, and a handful of others just for variety and show just how "whacky" I am. Go with the flow, put in what's already popular, vote the equivalents of "Stairway to heaven" and "Boheminan rhapsody" and "Euphoria". It would help ease Arron's list-keeping, but it would be faker than a nine-bob note.
Or I could put in a list of the 50 most important singles since 1977. The songs that helped shape the future of popular music, turn it into the mega-zillions industry it is now. That leads into some very dubious places. It goes to the man who mined the album for a zillion singles, suspected kiddyfiddler Michael Jackson. The Dunblane record, bought not for musical merit but to make a political point. Crazy Frog, "Gangnam style", and the inevitable meme hits. There is an objective reason to include these tracks, and it is a project worth pursuing, I cannot honestly call them "good".
Greatness is in the eye of the beholder. It's an intensely personal thing. And so is this list. Fifty singles, all of which have a place in my heart. Some of them shaped pop history. Some of them are generally accepted as brilliant. All of them shaped me, in some small or large way. In chronological order, a memory tape. From ABBA to [wherever it ends], a story of my life.

Jughead (2015), Aromanticism and Representation Part 1: The Mark Waid Fiasco
So, here’s the thing.
I was going to finish my arc-by-arc reread and review of the Jughead reboot. I was! But that was nearly a year ago now, and I kind of got distracted with a busy summer and moving and then a bunch of other stuff got in the way. And so really, I was going to finish. But the truth is, the last volume is either not super interesting for me to talk about or it’s the Mark Waid bit that I just really didn’t want to go through the trouble of getting screencaps and doing analysis for and so on. But I’m also not done talking about Jughead (I never will be) and I said before that I had some more overarching commentary I wanted to eventually put out, so here we are. So let’s talk about representation. Namely, I want to talk about the differences between Zdarsky and North’s portrayals of Jughead’s aromanticism. But in order to do that, we have to address the elephant in the room. We have to talk about Mark Waid.
First, a brief summary of volume three, just for context, since I never got around to it: Ryan North finishes off his run with a relatively lighthearted short arc where due to Jughead fucking up in a video game bet, the gang is forced to treat Reggie like a king for a week and do everything he says. They end up starting a really terrible band, things get out of hand, Jughead accidentally uploads a public video of them that implodes all of their social lives… it’s fun and goofy and can be basically summed up as Jughead Experiences Consequences, Wacky Hijinks Ensue.
The last two issues of the Jughead reboot ever released were written by Mark Waid and Ian Flynn. For the sake of focusing on the source material itself, the final arc consists of Sabrina accidentally casting a spell that makes everyone obsessed with Jughead. The problem is, since Jughead is super aroace and touch averse, this very quickly becomes a very uncomfortable situation. Now, I actually don’t hate these last two issues, and it’s not like Waid and Flynn retconned Jughead’s orientation or anything as drastic as that. The problem was with how the storyline was promoted and sensationalized prior to these issues even being released, and with Waid’s attitude in general.
I can’t find any record of Waid’s tweets about this because he deleted them all. Literally, I’ve searched his profile and all of his tweets from 2017 after January 5 are gone, or else Twitter is glitching like crazy. But there is this one that he wrote in reference to Trump not long before his Jughead run was announced, and uhh…
Tumblr media
I don’t know how to explain why this is bad, but it made aspec fans very nervous to see this kind of behavior and then find out that Waid was picking up Jughead, an aroace character.
Further alarm was raised when the synopsis for the new storyline was announced. It originally read as follows:
“Sabrina the Teenage Witch tries to do something nice for Jughead, but it ends up creating a comedy of errors in which he is the most desired bachelor in town! From the new writing team of Mark Waid (Archie) and Ian Flynn (Sonic the Hedgehog).”
This was… concerning, to say the least. A cover art in which Jughead is depicted surrounded by women and grinning was also circulated, which made a lot of aroace fans very uncomfortable (though it should be noted that this was an alternative cover, and not the one drawn by Derek Charm that ended up in the issue):
Tumblr media
Once issues 15 and 16 were eventually released, things kind of died down a bit, at least from where I was standing. Like I said, the storyline as it actually appears in the comics is not really all that bad. As a basic plotline, I don’t find it particularly problematic; however, the issue that I still have with it to this day is that it doesn’t feel like it was written or promoted for aspec people to enjoy. It was a storyline about borderline sexual harassment that was played entirely for laughs for a straight audience, right down to the way it was described in the initial synopsis for issue 15. Zdarsky and North, in different ways, both wrote with what I felt was a great deal of care and attention paid to making sure Jughead’s orientation was portrayed respectfully without being his entire character. I don’t know what role Ian Flynn had in all this, because all of the criticism and back-and-forth that eventually got deleted seemed to be focused on Mark Waid—but needless to say, issues 15 and 16, while not bad writing, feel a lot more careless than aspec people deserved.
I don’t think Mark Waid is an awful person and my intention isn’t to restart the discourse or “cancel” Waid by posting this. I think he’s a deeply flawed person and kind of an asshole who wasn’t the right person to write Jughead and treated fans very disrespectfully in response. I think he’s a coward for deleting the evidence, and I’m disappointed that issues 15 and 16 were the last that we ever got, but at the same time I shudder to think what worse damage he may have done in later issues had he been given the chance. This is the exact opposite of how I feel about the Zdarsky and North arcs, and I want to talk about that more in a later post (that one will be more fun!), but for now I felt that I could not get into a deeper commentary on aro representation in the Jughead reboot without addressing Mark Waid first. It felt disingenuous not to.
Anyway, before I go I just want to add that when I went onto Mark Waid’s Twitter, I found out that today, by complete coincidence, happens to be his birthday. So I hope he enjoys this gift of continuing aro rage. <3
And if any of you happen to find those tweets (or anything else pertinent to this discussion that I missed), please let me know!
