Now after many thoughts, here's the result:

PLF Spotting (S6/E2)

High concentration of advisor material here, making this a rather long one. Hit the jump! (Warning: The very first thing after the jump is a screenshot of mauled Noumu.)

On the Villains:

A new and rather gory shot of poor mangled John-chan is added, and while I appreciate the lingering over Ujiko’s upset, and especially the cute panel of Ujiko showing off Noumu to AFO,(1) I wish they’d kept the voice-over dialogue from AFO telling Ujiko what a dear friend he is and praising his curiosity.  Your Honor, they’re terrible husbands, and we deserve all the content we can get.

     

It’s hard to say, but I think this new shot of Ujiko might be him kneeling over John-chan’s remains?  The angle’s about right, anyway.  The moment does leave out Ujiko’s background yelling, though, which the manga shows via sound effect.

     

Love and always have loved Shigaraki dressing like Sensei for some reason.  It’s definitely not right after the merger announcement, so I’ve always wondered when exactly this little flashback happened.  Sometime during the few weeks between Deika and Shigaraki reporting in for surgery?  Maybe the day of the surgery itself, shortly before they get down to business?  No clue, but it’s a nice shot, anyway.

It's technically anime-original, in that it's taking some of Ujiko's internal monologue from the manga and applying it to a flashback instead, one based on a scene in Chapter 276. I imagine we'll be revisiting it when we get to the release of the Near High Ends later.  (My main takeaway on this new angle is that it and the jacket coat make Shigaraki’s shoulders look broader than they typically do.)

     

Point: Giving Mocha-chan a sound effect/protesting whine when they jump Mirko to defend Ujiko: please take some ok-hand emojis because that’s a nice touch.

     

Likewise, with the High End fighting Crust, having the color to distinguish its brain parts from the flat white of its extra eyes/exposed bone/whatever is going on beneath the metal grating does a lot to heighten the wrongness of it compared to the manga, where it’s all just white regardless.  Very effective!

     

Point: I'm thrilled the anime kept that SD shot of John-chan and Mocha ascending to heaven.  XD

     

New shot of Skeptic, though missing his ever-present transformed helpers, and very low effort on the monitor screens.

     

I love how deep Galvanize (fan name)’s voice is!  And his smirk changing into a savage grin as he lights his cigarette with a spark, which I’d never caught before.  I’m amused that they just color-swapped Kaminari’s hair for his.  (New nickname: Nega Kaminari.)  I definitely imagined his shirt being a yellow-gold shade myself—he certainly has a loud enough aura to support the visual impact!—but the lavender’s not bad.  Still a better coloring decision than some of his compatriots will be getting here shortly.

No visual for this, but I appreciated the lines added in which nearby MLAers react to Galvanize’s quirk use and call on others of their number to fall back.  It’s exactly the kind of line the My Villain Academia anime deleted constantly—members of the MLA reacting and responding to each other’s movements exactly like you’d expect to see from a trained underground army—so I was pleased that some got added in this time instead.

     

Adding Spinner to this shot is a weird decision, seeing as he’s supposed to be down in the conference hall—and, indeed, we’ll see him there in the next-episode teaser!  I know he didn’t just teleport down there, so what happened?  He took the direct route of crawling down walls and left Toga and Compress to catch up with him?  But why on earth would the three of them choose to split up in the middle of a hero attack?  The fact that Manga!Spinner was already down in the assembly hall with Re-Destro and Trumpet when the attack started was always one of the things I read to suggest that Spinner was the member of the League to have thrown himself most insistently into the duties of his new rank, whereas the others all lollygagging around elsewhere meant they were in no hurry to get down and confer before the meeting began.

     

Big group shot of the advisors, and H’OKAY, LET’S BREAK THIS DOWN.  I’ll start at the top left and spiral my way in broadly clockwise.  I’ll go on using fanfic names where I have them, but as always, Sanctum is the only canonical name we’ve got thus far.

“Spikey Cabbie Hat”: Definitely the one that gives me the strongest “MY EYES” response!  Plum purple layered over orange stripes is a hell of a choice, by which I mean it is somewhat akin to eternal damnation.  But almost everything else is on point, particularly his weird chin prongs.  I think my only quibble other than the eye-searing vest color would be that I’m not sure if the animators caught that Spikey Cabbie’s eyes aren’t supposed to be shadowed by the brim of his cap; he’s supposed to be wearing a domino mask.  He could still be doing so and they’ve just chosen to make it black—checking back to his introductory shot last episode, it looks even more like a shadow over the eyes there (albeit shaded purple), save that it cuts off precisely at his hairline, as it does in the manga.  He’s got one more appearance yet to come, so we’ll see if it looks any different there.      

Beacon: His tie should be louder—it’s very obviously got a pattern on it in the manga, and not a plain one, either.  But I don’t mind the yellow coat.      

Sanctum: They changed the outfit he’s wearing, but only back to the military uniform he’s wearing in his introduction and Twice’s anime-only Imagine Spot about him.  You’d think the plain dark suit he’s wearing in the manga version of this scene would be simpler to draw than all those medals, but your guess is as good as mine on how involved the design materials are for background characters like this.  That is, maybe it's easier to have one design sheet than to have to cross-reference the manga.  One thing the change does obscure is something I noticed for the first time writing this: Sanctum and Band Jacket Guy have the same sleeve cuffs in the manga version of this shot!      

“Band Jacket Guy”: As mentioned above, he and Sanctum are supposed to both be wearing dark jackets with the same sleeve cuffs (though, I think, Sanctum’s lacks the elaborate button-up breast layering of Band Jacket Guy’s).  Unlike Sanctum, he keeps the jacket—maybe to help visually distinguish them in the shot?—though the front panel seems to be gone in favor of a simple line of buttons.  He’s also been given darker hair than I would have gone with; his hair is unshaded in the manga, while the anime has it only slightly paler and redder than Uraraka’s; Uraraka certainly does not have unshaded hair in the manga.  But he doesn’t clash too badly, and I like that they gave him gloves.  (They probably should have given Sanctum gloves, too.)      

“The Question”:  Barely visible, and yet the only extant detail is wrong: the question marks on their mask are supposed to be symmetrically mirrored; the anime has them facing the same direction.      

Scarecrow: I don’t love the pale yellow of the ruff—looking at just this screenshot, you’d think the staff only had access to one shade of yellow!—but I guessed black on the robe back when I was writing fic about him, so I’m glad to see the anime do the same.  His arm is extended here where it isn’t in the manga, making his segmented fingers and wrist visible.  They’re somewhat simplified compared to how they look in other shots in the manga, but, eh, it’s just a quick panning shot, so the loss of detail isn’t surprising.      

“Aviator Teeth”: He looks great!  I wouldn’t have guessed pale purple for his skin color, but it heightens his monstrous anatomy to great effect.  I have only the smallest of quibbles: his fingers in the manga bend in ways that suggest double-jointedness, and the patch on his shoulder pretty clearly has a logo/emblem of some kind on it.  The anime simplifies both.      

Galvanize: Covered above; he also looks great!  He does have his arms down for some reason, whereas he’s got his Amplivolt out and readied in the manga.      

“Grandma Bindi”: Still missing her bindi—it should be just barely visible at the center of her forehead.  She’s got her moxie intact, but she probably has the second-worst colors.  More of that same shade of yellow under her orange apron, and that combination would be fine, but it violently clashes with her bubblegum pink hair.       

“Big Sis Bindi”: I like the dark blue for her coat and that her hair is clearly glossier than her mother’s(?), but I still think the pink is kind of lazy.(2) I also think her expression is just the slightest bit off, her eyes faintly too large, her brows too arched, taking away from her supremely unimpressed look in the manga.  But if I started critiquing the anime’s ability to capture Horikoshi’s exquisitely nuanced facial expressions, I’d never stop, so I’ll move on.      

“Hole Punch Face”: I like his coloring at first glance, but I have a lot of quibbles.  Firstly, he’s the advisor I would most likely give an unusual skin tone, chiefly because he’s got that dark sclera thing going on that both Mina and Curious do, them being pink- and blue-skinned respectively.(3)  …Except that he doesn’t have the black sclera in the anime, which is Highly Lame.  Also, the jacket’s colors are fine, but my Pinstripes Favoritism and I have some complaints to register about the change to its pattern.      

“Hose Face”: There’s something off about his colors I’m having a bit of trouble pinning down.  I don’t like the green on him, I think.  He’s such a big, intimidating figure in the manga, a broad, solid frame wearing heavy black—or at least very dark—combat clothes, with the paleness of his mask heightening the impact of its skull-like design.  Even in the confines of a monochrome medium, he gives a monochrome impression.  The anime going with the same camo green it gave “Red” last episode doesn’t work as well here as it did for Red; the warm grays of the mask and the short shock of brown hair sticking out from behind it detract from its visual resemblance to a skull rather than heightening it.  He just looks less menacing in these colors than in all black.           

Brand: Mixed feelings.  I like that shade of green for him in isolation, but in the broader context, it’s the same skin tone Horikoshi gave the heteromorph giantess Deku saves post-war, which just makes me want to headcanon them as estranged siblings or start brainstorming the fic where she’s a PLF plant or something.

     

Exceptionally cool if very brief shot of Galvanize blowing out cigarette smoke as lightning snaps and leaps around his face. God, he's so chill; I love him.

     

Stray Notes:

The hidden door is completely sending me.  Is that how bad all the backgrounds look when the anime doesn’t have a manga panel to work from?  It’s so bad.  And so bonkers, too—like, okay, yes, in the manga, Crust takes note of other passages branching off from the path down to the lab, surmising that there are exits other than the one that goes to the morgue.  But he’s just following in Mirko’s trail, and Mirko—as the anime explicitly added dialogue to say—went in via the morgue.  Who thought a secret door right in the middle of the main lobby (and/or floating in non-Euclidian space) would be a good idea??

     

Point: The anime-original material is, as I take to be fairly standard, Kinda Bad.

Why does Erasure freeze the Noumu in their tracks?  That’s very demonstrably not what Erasure does to Noumu.  Like, we’ve seen it a whole bunch of times!       

Endeavor's sidekick quip is either a poor attempt at a joke (and Endeavor is not exactly a noted jokester) or meant in earnest, in which case I must bust out a word I generally avoid: cringe.      

Two hundred and fifty chapters'-worth of adaptation in, Bakugou whipping out an ore-sama and complaining about parts of hero work he thinks are menial and beneath him is just awful.  I really feel for the Bakugou fans who like him for his character development but keep getting saddled with the anime’s incredibly Flanderized version every time an episode director gets cute and tries to squeeze in a few seconds of new Bakugou material for the fanservice.

     

Can anyone please explain to me why the anime felt the need to overlay a crappy scale pattern on top of Crust’s already-drawn scales?

     

Point: The Mirko fight scene’s got its ups and downs.  I generally like the choreography of it, and the quick movements around the lab, up and around surfaces in three-dimensional space.  But it did rather lose a lot of the emphasis on just how strong Mirko’s legs are that the manga gets across by having her shatter several mad science tubes just by leaping off of them!

The gruesome scene of her arm getting torn off is extremely well done, with the not-small caveat that the manga has a visual suggestion that she has to (and does!) forcibly tear free of the vortex under her own power, severing her arm in so doing, while the anime’s action there is muddled enough that her intentionality and fortitude don’t come across as well.  It just sort of looks like the vortex took her arm and that’s all it was ever going to do.

     

More bizarre slow stroll decisions going on with the cut of Edgeshot and company.  They come off like a small group of friends on a slightly sullen hike through the woods rather than members of a sizeable army detachment steadily advancing toward a mission point.

     

There are just generally a lot of weird stop-and-starts with the forward momentum of this episode.  Along with what I’ve already mentioned, we get the ever-tiresome Flashbacks To Stuff You Just Saw, along with new weirdness in the form of the shot above, wherein Midnight and Tokoyami come to a dead stop in the middle of the charge on the villa to stand there proudly intoning Kaminari's name.  Perhaps it’s meant to be in line with the MLA types calling for people to give Galvanize room?  The heroes are doing the same for Kaminari? I don't know, but it looks awkward as hell.

     

FOOTNOTES 1: My god, the polka dot background, though.  What a choice.  XD       2: “They’re girls!  Give them pink hair!”  But please compare the shade of their hair in the manga to Mina’s and tell me if you think their hair should be that pink.)       3: All Might and, eventually, Deku get the dark sclera treatment, but with them, it’s visual shorthand for eyes sunken with over-exertion, not indicative of them actually having black eye-whites.

okay so is there content that you had planned for the ROs and story in general but then scrapped cause there wasn’t a good place in the story to stick it in? and if so, can you share what it was? 👀 👀 👀

yes, definitely. *rubs hands together* oh man, you done asked THE question today xD I can't wait to get into this 😁

Academics. I almost decided to have classes and grades be a minor part of gameplay, but the more time I spent designing it the more I realized I wanted nothing to do with it 😂 I haven’t really enjoyed academic gameplay in other interactive fiction because I 1) hate having to choose between studying and interacting with awesome characters, 2) have terrible short term memory, and 3) hate school in general!! So instead I just opted to have the MC be really good at school, point blank period so I could focus on social drama and relationships instead! 😆

Physical skills. I spent literal months crafting the catering scene around setting up stats for stamina/endurance, dexterity, and strength instead of just magnetism, confidence, and persuasion. They had their own backstories with the MC’s parents being overly invested sports parents instead and I think the background choices were like... martial arts, gymnastics, and track? But yeah, I ended up scrapping it all because I was spending hours on research about those individual sports so I could integrate them into the MC’s narrative organically but like... when I tried to think of what use they would be in the actual story, I came up blank. Best decision yet, esp since it means a lot less coding!

Skin tone customization. For one, I noticed that a lot of my favorite IFs don’t offer that customization and it hasn’t impacted my experience at all. For two, I originally realized I might as well not implement it since I am striving real hard not to introduce any customization that won’t actually be mentioned in interesting or meaningful ways in-story. I don’t think it’s really all that common for real life friends (esp in high school?) to comment or compliment each other’s skin and like... when it comes from someone who doesn’t share a similar complexion or ethnic background, that type of commentary gets... d i c e y. So then I wanted to be sensitive to that but what’s the pay-off? An RO mentioning how they love your skin tone once? Awkward sentences with the MC referring to their own skin color? Idk, just wasn’t vibing with it. I’m open to revisiting it in beta or something but for now it’s scrapped.

Singing, Rapping, and Gaming as Hobbies/Talents. I feel bad about scrapping these, honestly 😂 They’re great and I really wanted to incorporate them but it just came down to already having a lot of stuff to code. Plus, I know I can write the Hobbies/Talents I stuck with far better. And for Book 2 purposes, as well!

Leo. as @sourandflightypeaches ​​ asked me about a long while ago, I had to scrap an entire RO 😢 His name is Leo, he was the nephew of wealthy west African diplomats residing in Emerson, and I love him dearly! His backstory was largely based on my mother’s childhood and the circumstances she lived through after immigrating to America. and... ok, i’m about to go on one hell of a tangent so buckle up and bear with me if you can 😅

my intention with this story, aside from writing things that I personally enjoy (graphic violence, spooky woods, social drama, romance, conspiracies 😚), is to explore greed, wealth, and how the ways people and families interact with those two things influence young people and who they grow up to be. here i go sounding pretentious af 😝 and here’s where I apply a cut for those who want to preserve a little mystery to the main characters!

With Gabe, we’ve got someone who grew up with very little stability or financial security but who has found unscrupulous methods to gain status and money, with both noble and selfish motivations.

Kile has some of that childhood experience in common with Gabe, having been in the foster care system since infancy, but they lucked out when they were adopted into massive wealth by a caring, loving couple—a couple that uses their wealth and privilege to be far more lenient and protective of Kile than is actually reasonable or responsible.

Jack comes from a prestigious wealthy family on his dad’s side who he loves dearly but there’s no getting around the fact that they love him back as much as they despise his working class mom.

Jessie is a spoiled sweet heiress (being the baby of her family and the only girl) and while she lives blissfully ignorant of the harmful source and impact of her father's income and career, she bears the weight of the expectation to fulfill very traditional gender roles, including her behavior and appearance, but also extending to her career and life plans.

Rain's wealth led to them growing up sheltered and isolated but also extremely accommodated, giving them maximum freedom and opportunity to discover and develop their personal talents and interests. However, they have almost no positive relationship with their parents who have essentially decided to give up on a kid that couldn't be exactly the accessory they tried to mold them to be—both in terms of their identity and personality.

Rupan/Rohan, at their very core, rejects everything about conformity, self-importance, and excessive luxury—which means they have never, ever truly fit in with their peers. Going full non-conformist, however, has resulted in them becoming alienated from much of their family, as well, despite them all loving each other very much. Their history with false friends and betrayals has led them to over-indulge in their vices and reckless behavior to compensate for that isolation. Sometimes, they just get in over their head and many times, they know better. Every time, it's just that the feeling of finally belonging is utterly intoxicating.

Vivian/Vincent has two extremely successful parents who didn't inherit but instead built up their wealth and they aspire to be just like them, to a degree that is well and truly unhealthy. Their mother specifically is an over-achiever and applies mountainous pressure for them to follow in her footsteps, especially academically. Vi is completely capable of achieving what their mom expects of them, but they were already an extremely sensitive perfectionist so this has made them intensely critical of themself. This is a large part of why they are such a rigid, no-nonsense person and that in turn has made them one of the most disliked people among their peers—which is a huge personal failure to them since their father is a very well-liked and socially successful person in town.

And the Emersons are peak privilege: inherent high social status, brains, looks, charisma, athleticism, and massive wealth. They could never have been anything less than extremely popular, just by virtue of their last name and the nature of the town's social dynamics and politics. And they do enjoy that privilege (esp Curt lol). However, it should go without saying that being so high profile, even (or maybe especially) just in the isolated scope of your hometown, isn't always a boon. Their family's and their own perceived failings are widely discussed and privately mocked and/or celebrated. Real friends are scarce while fake ones and snakes are plentiful. Plus their dad is a gigantic dickhead who sees his kids as extensions of his own status and reputation and not much else. Public shortcomings make for an unbearable time at home and the world outside the estate is at once overly accommodating, full of assumptions, and even subtly hostile at times—all unrelated to their own actions or character.

And with the MC, I think the narrative will make it clear there are several ways that story can go. You start off with irresponsible parents that have lost their wealth due to their own mismanagement and material ambitions—how that affects any individual MC should differ based on choices and consequences!

So why bring any of that up when I was supposed to be talking about my cut OC? 😂😂

Leo was going to be the unwelcome recent addition to his uncle’s household, the son of a brother his aunt hates for (petty af) Reasons, and she took that resentment out on him directly by restricting his access to nearly every aspect of the family's wealth. Especially material goods and living conditions. He was basically treated like the help, tasked with playing nanny for his many younger cousins and burdened with doing the homework and providing academic cover for his dumb as rocks cousin in the same grade as you all. To sum it up, he was basically a victim of trafficking at the hands of his own family with his uncle out of town enough to feign ignorance to how bad his wife was treating his nephew and his aunt going out of her way to keep him busy, at home, and isolated. This is sadly a super common form of trafficking in Francophone African cultures (although I don't think most people view it as trafficking. and I’m sure the same is true of other cultures but I don’t want to speak outside of my purview). And like I mentioned above, it’s how my own mom's (and idek how many cousins') child/teenhood went.

It’s a perspective on modern wealth, privilege and greed that I really, really wanted to tell. I am confident in saying it hasn't been explored in interactive fiction yet (though correct me—and direct me 👀—if I'm wrong) and out of all the wealth/greed explorations I came up with, it's the one I have the closest personal ties to and the strongest feelings about. The characters and plans I had for it were detailed and I'm proud of them but at the end of the day... I just couldn't find a place for Leo in the story at large.

Leo was, in fact, the last main character I came up with, when I had already designed and fleshed out the larger story and started crafting the timeline of major events. I think the worst thing I could have done for a story and perspective that I care about this much is shove it into a plot that didn't have room for it at the very base level, regardless of how well the character or his story is written. Shoe-horned characters always stick out. I didn’t want to disservice Leo by having him be the character that did nothing or could be removed from the main plot without affecting it at all, y’know? That’s so much worse than just forgoing the indulgence, imo :((

Talking about the Sanji art, why was it so perfect? I need you to explain for making him exceptionally Gorgeous. The concept... how did you get the concept of All Green and now you are making it my obsession. How did you come up with it? Damn that was so creative. I became crazy over that Idea. So, you wanna talk about thought process? I’d LOVE to! Please prepare to hear me gushing about it. It gonna be veeeryyyy looonggg   ( ◕▿◕ )

Since Sanji was the first one to be designed, I was nervous at everything *wobbling novice sea witch at your service 👍* The first step is to choose what kind of fish. I like marine life but I didn’t like them that much to know more than a few common name. Initially I thought of dolphin, since they are very smart, and also a lil perv... And they blow clouds of water when they surface to breath, like someone’s smoking! So I started doing research to select a fitting species.

But while I was reading through various dolphin descriptions, two words caught my attention: FAST SWIMMER. I was like, wait who’s the fastest in the ocean??? So my research had come to a swift turning point, I abandoned the dolphin list to go through articles of “fastest fish in the world” instead. That’s where I found out about the Black Marlin. Things clicked in place even faster than Sanji’s Diable Jambe 😆

The second step is to choose what he would wear, I just knew it had to be a white poet shirt, because Sanji. 👀 Took a few more look at the royal family attire and I was like, “yup! poet shirt and waist band, flowy flowy in the sea, seal the deal!” (you can see that in the initial sketch) This soon went through more changes, but at later stage.

The third step is to choose the vibe, setting, pose he’d be in. 3 words stuck with me whenever I think of Sanji: sadness (you could say he’s feeling blue, you know?, blue! 🤓), curiosity, and dream. So here we had pre-timeskip Sanji, maybe even a bit younger, the viewpoint going up, Sanji looking up too, like how one kept wondering about the strange world above but couldn’t go there, stuck in the depth of the ocean. Adding a book because he’s definitely a nerd! It’s supposed to be a cookbook or the encyclopedia of devil fruits. The fourth step is lining. Troubles ensued! Lots of! The pose was haaarddd and I just couldn’t get the shirt hem to look right, it didn’t flow like I wanted, the tail design seemed bland, also his hair bang wanted to make me an enemy... I struggled, and the clock was ticking fast! So of course I did what an impatient one like me always do: Change the hard part. I got rid of the flowy hem, decided to tuck it neatly in a leather-like band, eased up the pose, switched to post-timeskip design, enlarged the fins for dramatic effect, in the first place there were a line of diamond shape running along his tail (the part that helps a fish sense water pressure and stuffs, if I remember correctly), I turned that into Sanji’s swirls as well. The chosen book in the end was “Noland the Liar” because I wanted to slip in a mer!Noland and see if anyone would notice hehe.. Strings at collar and waist was added last as an attempt to balance the amount of black and white on character. Background was simply a bunch of water flows and bubbles, I tried to portray a fast current, hushing our boy to swim away, back to safe home. The final silhouette and line of action wasn’t as nice as the sketch’s, but I’m not picky. *laziness will overwrite everything*

Finally, we crawled to the step I dreaded the most: coloring and shading... The tone was dark blue, giving of an even more ominous feeling I suppose? The next was this agonizing process of making the first thing to caught your eyes is his face, or better, his eyes, but definitely not his butt. TT_TT The black area was so strong, at one point I considered giving the (now blue) sea a plain black filling to neutralize the effect.

While taking care of the treacherous background, I pondered what Sanji’s All Blue would be, now that mermaid’s diet doesn’t include fish... 😂 Like, as a vegan cook, Sanji would want to get his hand on all kind of vegetable available in both world, sea and land? Then we must have the myth of a place, home to every plant possible? What’s the name?? All Green??? Yeah, All Green sounds legit. When the piece was finally done, I uploaded it so fast I forgot the extra step of slapping on watermark! XD

Annnnd that’s that! That’s the whole process I went through drawing mer!Sanji. Thank you for hearing me out > 3 < 💖

I heard Maki’s laught in the background but Bakugo Katsuki, of course. I never saw a character that embodies so well my gremlin chaotic energie and god, the more i read the manga the more i am mortified, like I just see myself when I was a teenager throught his actions. Fucking angry pomeranian. Gifted child raised in such a competitive way, not allowed to express himself so he transform all his emotions in anger, cause that’s the only he can manage, prefer not to try rather than taking the risk of failing. I have a lot XD. I tend to cherish all good memory. But if I had to choose, i remember so precisly the fist 4h-snack I took at your house. To feel accepted too and not having to compromised or try to fit in XD. Anyway, my tiny brain associate that amazing discorvery of, well, SOUL MATE FRIEND, to the taste of pancake your father made us those day, with quince jelly. Somehow you are associated with quince jelly I think, and believe me that’s one of the best taste I have in my life. I already have three jar of quince jelly even I eat them slowlyXD.

Yes. But meaningful thing only. I don’t like fancy, expensive stuff, like don’t waste money on me everXD. Every thing I cherish are just small thing but they do mean the WORLD to me : the book you gifted me on women-artist, the stunning shell that i adore, or the fact you accepted to read my novel, Maki’s little Bakugo plushie, my best friend’s amethyst that make her think of me, my friend who gifted me a shark kigurumi absolutly adorable (and he slided a bakugo’s note in the package that made me laught so much i hanged it on my wall).

- I eat the same breakfast since almost 17 years. The two only exception on my muesli-yogurt are croissant/pain au chocolat or english breakfast, once in a while. Otherwise, if i don’t have my breakfast, I tend to be a little more agressive throught the day XD.

- I can’t eat if I don’t have a book in my hand. It’s very problematic for my closest ones but I adore it XD

*breathes in* This is it. This is how I finally get to write about two characters in one go because I also can’t choose XD I hope you don’t mind this getting long and thank you for giving me them, you beautiful human being! 🥺

Kanda

My otp for them: With Alma, no doubt (only trust!). Alma’s last moments break my heart, in a good way - they are soulmates meant to be. Their story is very sad and yet extremely touching and beautiful. I have a thing for lovers who meet again in their next lives, as I’m a sucker for the “red string of fate” myth. I get emotional just thinking of their relationship, and I wish, I really wish, that if they have another chance, that they can meet again and finally be happy together without being torn apart by the tragedies of war. My brotp for them: Weirdly enough, I’d say Allen! After Alma arc, Kanda seems to be a lot softer than before, and I’ve been loving the mutualism between him and Allen. They are very alike (as much as they hate to admit it), and that’s why they can understand each other well and know what the other needs without him needing to say anything. They’re both not good at talking about their feelings. Any other ships: With Lenalee! I know most people see their relationship as a brotherly one, but man, they have such good chemistry together. They bicker often, but just imagine what a killer duo they would be 💦 I’m weak for powerful couples. They know each other ever since they’re little, so they have shared a lot of moments together and know each other well, too - the scene in which Lenalee goes to meditate with him because she was scared of Lvellie was adorable; she feels safe around him. Their best friend: I want to say Marie! I think Kanda would rather people who don’t snoop around too much into his personal space, and Marie simply knows where these boundaries are at. He also knows how to deal very well with Kanda’s temper. He understands him but also knows of his flaws, yet he doesn’t question or confronts him, which I’m sure Kanda appreciates. He’s been recently showing that he cares a lot about Johnny as well, but deep down, Kanda does care about many of the people close to him.  My favorite nickname for them: It’s gotta be Bakanda, the pun is just great XD It doubles in greatness because, in my language/official release, this got translated as “BabaKanda”, which is also a pun! In Portuguese, “babaca” is the same as “idiot”. So I appreciate this silly pun a lot more thanks to that XD My favorite AU headcanon of them: I think that, sadly, Kanda won’t make it alive to the end of the story. I headcanon that, in case he does die, it’s after repaying his debt with Allen in a roundabout way; he did help Allen, but at the same time, he went to rest in peace together with Alma. And Allen did fight for them to be happy together, so I just... kinda want this to be true. It would pain me to see Kanda go, but this would be his happy ending and he deserves this. My favorite outfit they wear: A hard pick! Kanda is very handsome so basically, anything he puts on will look awesome. However, the one moment that made me go 💓 was when we saw him in civilian clothes (Chapter 208). Jesus Christ!? He was stunning. I really like his current Order uniform + outer coat combo too, looks so comfy and warm. Defining color: When I think of Kanda, I think of a mix of colors. Namely, Cobalt (#1338BE), Carnation (#FFA6C9) and Indigo (#4B0082). I believe it’s because of the Lotus Pain ending using this palette for the effects of the lotus flowers shining in contrast with the dark background colors. Would I date them: As handsome and amazing as he is, I wouldn’t. I know he’d hate my guts because I’m the type of person who wants to overthink and needlessly talk things over more than he should, and Kanda simply abhors the very idea of this 😂 He is a simpleminded guy, and I quite like that on him. First impression: I knew Kanda wouldn’t be the bland “angry asshole character” trope during his and Allen’s first mission together, in Martel. What he told Allen left a mark and made me think there was a lot more depth to him: "I hate the way naive people like you do things... And even more so, I hate people who don't keep their promises!" This one line told me a lot about his personality. Current impression: Pretty much my first impression, but with a lot more context! I really love Kanda and his past was a surprise to me. It made me appreciate him even more than I already did. Hogwarts House: I’d say Slytherin. He would stop at nothing until he found “that person”, and this House is well known for the ambition of its people. He’s also sharp and while not smarts smart, he is perceptive and intelligent in his own way; very skilled as well. Which Pokemon starter they’d be: Oshawott! Samurott looks as intimidating and stoic as Kanda, besides, it’s definitely based on a samurai, so they share this trait as well. Its first stages don’t look like much, but Samurott gets its own sword to fight with!

Krory

My otp for them: With Elliade! Now, this is one complex relationship. I admit I don’t like Elliade much but, at the same time, I understand her. For an Akuma, she really did love Krory; and he still loves her too. I just wish she hadn’t left him in the dark for so long. Her love was selfish and, while I understand how she felt, I feel bad for Krory since he thought he was a monster and that drove him to loneliness. I wish things could have been different, because their love was really pretty despite the downsides, their feelings for each other were very strong. My brotp for them: I want to say Marie! The latest Discussion Room (Vol.27) mentioned how good Krory is at many things, one of them being music. I love to think that he and Marie could have enjoyable long talks about their shared interest, they do look like the type of guys to appreciate music on a higher, more emotional level. Any other ships: I don’t have any, but I’ll make a mention to Miranda! While I don’t ship them personally, I totally see why people do. They’re both soft sweethearts who are always ready to do their best towards the people they care about - and they also share low self-esteem, sadly. The world has been very unfair with them 😢 Their best friend: Definitely Allen and Lavi! They were Krory’s first friends ever, and it’s clear how much he cares about them. My heart literally can’t take how they’re the first thoughts that cross Krory’s mind when he’s scared; it means that he feels accepted by them, they bring him comfort and make him feel safe and confident that everything will be alright. It’s just so sweet. My favorite nickname for them: Krorykins! If there’s one thing the English translation did right (and I can’t say that for like 80% of it), was translating “Kuro-chan” as “Krorykins”. It sounds so silly it’s cute 😅 My favorite AU headcanon of them: Just like I wrote about Miranda on her post, I headcanon he’s one of the people to either drop out of the Order to side with Allen, or actively help him in other ways. I think it’s not a mere coincidence Hoshino-sensei had specifically him, one of the people who cherish Allen the most, accompany Chaozii to go after him. I’m observing with great interest, as they might meet again sometime soon. It broke my heart to see him wanting to see Allen but, at the same time, wishing he had escaped safely. My favorite outfit they wear: There’s only one answer to this question, and it’s his casual clothes! He looks so elegant and fancy, so handsome yet so adorable! I mean, just look at him! Defining color: When I think of Krory, I think of deep red, a crimson shade like Carmine (#960019). I’m very sure it’s because of his Innocence. Would I date them: Maybe? I think I’d like befriending him more than dating him. He’s close to me in age though (unlike most of the characters I’ve written about so far XD) so I’d be down to it. Imagine dating a sweet guy who not only could cook you your favorite dishes but also has a more assertive, wilder side to him. Sounds like the complete package. First impression: Who is this? He looks scary but my intuition tells me there’s more than it meets the eye. Oh, he’s crying. He’s worried...? That’s too sweet, I’m betting he’s not a villain. Current impression: Well, he wasn’t a villain just like I had thought! Krory is an amazing but underrated character, he definitely deserves more love and appreciation. I love his personality, but what I love the most about him is how he had everything to be the “plain edgy, shady character” and then this notion was completely twisted around. I love it when things aren’t just about appearance. Hogwarts House: I see him being in Hufflepuff! The best people I know (namely, my best friend and spouse) are from this House and while they’re sweet and caring people, there’s also a lot to them more than it meets the eye, just like with Krory! Hufflepuffs are dedicated, loyal, and capable. Which Pokemon starter they’d be: Great question because when you think of him, you’d instantly think of a bat Pokémon, right? haha But I’d give him Sobble, I think! Poor shy crybaby that gets to go from water to wine upon evolving into its last stage, which is completely fabulous and badass! Drizzile even has the prominent bang falling on its face, while Inteleon has what could look like how Krory’s bang gets upward when his Innocence is activated 🤔

There's actually a lot of different things in her some of her face claim's (Karen Gillian) movies, like Jumanji or Doctor Who did play a small part into it But really I just wanted a female pirate that was badass but also has her soft emotional side. My fansign experience (10.04.2019)

Soooo after 2 months here finally comes my fansign experience. I will try to keep it short but still it will be way to long so I will place it under the cut after Hongjoong. I hope I don’t make anyone sad or something and it can make you smile a bit maybe~

Hongjoong

When I came up to him and told him that I am nervous he instantly told me not to be nervous and tried to make me laugh. When I asked him why he said that I am cute when I laught. He then proceed to laugh with me about my post-it question which was telling me the mental ages of the members. Afterwards we still had time since Seonghwa was still busy so I let him guess my age. He asked if he should guess in korean or german age and I told him that he could decide and he decided on german age. He then leaned back and proceed to drag his gaze up and down until he settled on my eyes. And guess what. He said 23 which is kinda right since I tun 23 later this year. We were both so surprised since normally noone guesses my age right and he was surprised probably that he got it right and that I am older than them ^^

For the general vibes he gave me during the fansign: He has such a calm and funny vibe. He was nervous, you could tell, but he was always sure of himself and about what he was saying to you. Truly the perfect leader who did everything he could to calm you down or make you laugh depending on what he thought would help you more ~

Seonghwa

Let me give you something of his trained english: “HI, oh you bought shiber with you. How are you.” ... “Nervous? Me too, so nervous.” He leaned so close while we were talking. His post-it question was about his favorite korean food. And he asked me if I have ever eaten Ramen in the end and I was like “Yeah yesterday before the concert.” He was so surprised, happy and excited and was telling me that he actually ate ramen 10 minutes before the fansign and that I shouldn’t tell anyone ^^ In the end he gave Shiber a pat and said that I should come to Korea to eat with him. Poor baby was wearing so much make up tho. 

Seonghwa has such a calming vibe. Like, I literally thought I would freak out while sitting in front of him. But he hold eye contact all the time and let me tell you, you could see his eyes shining with happiness. He was so happy and it managed to calm me down instantly. I don't know how often he told me how nervous he is too. It makes you feel so much better knowing that they were struggling with nervousness too.

Yunho

The first thing after he read my name was saying how muched he loves my name. He also loved that I am becoming a teacher. Though he guessed that I'm a English teacher since my english was so good. When I tried to explain him what I am studying he was struggling to understand what I mean with the word math but he understood biology. After he read my post-it note (where I asked him to write down some encouraging words for studying) he asked me why. So I told him that I was struggling with university and was scared to actually fail it in the end. Yunho said that I should always study hard and that whenever I feel that it gets to much that I should know that he will think about me. I told him that he is cute when I got up to get to Yeosang and he got so shy ~

Yunho gives the BIGGEST boyfriend vibes! Idk. It's so hard to describe actualy. But he was so curious about my studying and teaching. And I think he kinda felt bad that he didn't understood a word, but hyped me up anyway. I got the feeling that you could tell him everything and anything and he would listen to you! He always looked to endluged in whatever atiny was telling him. If you ever need someone to just listen to your rambles and then tell you that everything will be alright you will love him!

Yeosang

He. Is. So. Cute. And.. he didn't shave^^ He had so much make up on his face trying to conceal it but you could see it clearly. It was so adorable. And he was wearing blue contact lenses. Oof. I asked him to sort all member into Hogwarts Houses (because I knew from a gc beforehand that Yunho would get that question like 3 times already) and he was so eager to do it. He struggled with some word but I had written the house names in the original colors so that helped him. Actually he asked me to help him sort after a while and it was so much fun (San was watching me while doing it because he was bored but I will scream about it later). It was especially funn when we had written down 7 members and we both were looking down left and right wondering who we forgot to sort (it was Jongho btw) :D

Yeosangs vibes are just.. He is so cute. The cutest. You could actually see in his eyes how nervous he was, but he tried his best to talk to you. His english might be broken but he was so sweet trying so hard to make you understand what he was saying. He used up so much time talking to Atiny, the staff in the back almost always tapped him on his shoulder and saying that he was taking too long. And he gave me and others such a good and calming vibe because of it. Like a rock in a waterstream or something. If I ever had a problem I would go to him and he would just hold me and tell me it's fine.

San

OMG San. First of all, before I even got a chance to meet him, he- ugh. Let me tell you something. I was sitting first row, number 17, when I had to get up to start getting in line he still had no one sitting in front of him. So he saw me picking up Shiber and getting in line (I didn’t saw that). A bit later when I was waiting in line I watched the members one by one because I felt like somebody was watching me. San.. He was starring at me. Because he saw me waiting there with a Shiber plushie. When we locked eyes he made a sign like “I am watching you, just you wait until you get here” and was smiling so brightly. When he had to look away because atiny sat in front of him I broke down. I actually found myself sitting on the floor you can’t fcking believe! 

Okay so when it was my turn to talk to him he was waiting for me (Later in pictures and videos I could see that he actually really was waiting. He looked at me and even had the fcking decency to tilt his head and everyone says his eyes screamed “cute” while he was watching me talking and discussing with Yeosang). The first thing he did was scolding Shiber: "Hey Shiber. What are you doing? You are supposed to be in my bed! What are you doing in her lap, hmm?" It was so funny but I got a bit defencive I guess because I answered: "he's here to protect me because I'm nervous" He just looked up to me and smiled?!! And then to Shiber again: "Good Shiber. From no on you protect her and make her smile for me yeah?" I DIED. When he looked down to write in the album he had his hand open on the table for me to hold it, like an open gesture, but I was so shy. I took it tho after a short while and he smiled and HAD THE FCKINGASLJHDFALSJD sorry.. he pulled his fingers in so my hand was touching him more (what freaking fanfiction is this). And actually, it helped so much to calm me down. He wasn't surprised at all about the kkt groupchat I am in and he was happy about it translating everything he wrote down so I could tell them in the groupchat how much he appreciates them. I had a second question prepared, because I am selfish like that where I basically told him that he is the dimple kind and if I could be his dimple queen (since I have dimplse too) San just smiled and said that I can be his queen ~ He high fived me, smiling down at our hands and even continues talking to me while I was already sitting in front of Mingi (I’m sorry Mingi sweetheart).

Now his vibes: Like.. oof. You just sit in front of him and get all kind of different vibes from him at once. Cute. Handsome. Maybe even get a bit scared if he comes to close. Boyfriend. Soft. Respect. But his voice is so soft, it makes you feel all kind of things. And he respects you so much. Like, the others hold their hands up so you can touch and high five them and he just hold his on the table in front of me (I actually didn’t saw him doing it for anyone else) and let me choose if I wanted to hold hands or not. Such a happy vibe

Mingi

Mingi sunshine I’m so sorry again ^^. But still so much fun honestly. The first thing he did was greeting Shiber and then got cut of by San because he still wanted to talk to me (I’m so sorry Mingi, I couldn’t help myself. How should I say no to San?!) While San and I were talking he signed my album silently. He was so glad that I translated the question and wrote it down in english and korean (my question for him was to list his 3 favorite things to do in his spare time). He was so happy about his question and so he wrote down his answers way to fast. And then he tried to translate them for me (Eat, listening to music, going to the sauna). He asked me which ateez concept of the album I like more the red or the black one. I said black and he was surprised and tried defending the red side ^^

He has such little lost baby kitten vibes. Mingi has so much energy in him and you could see he wanted to just run around. Especially in the end it seems to get really hard for him to just sit still. He was so active he even managed to knock over his water bottle while talking to one of the first atinys xD

Wooyoung

My baby Wooyoung. He was so nervous and looked so scared and insecure. I just wanted to hug him, but of course I wasn’t allowed. When he read my name he was confused because I wrote it normally and in korean. But instead of a “j” I used an “i” in the korean version because it sounds like an i if you pronouce it. I tried to explain to him why I wrote it like this, but I don’t think he understood. While he was signing he started to sing to one of the songs playing in the background but stopped when I joined quietly. I felt so betrayed ^^ He smiled about the question (I asked him what I could do to make him happy) He didn’t translate what he wrote down and I needed 2 weeks to get it translated (work on your fcking handwriting woo baby) Sadly we didn’t talk at all while he was writing. Of course I don’t know the reason for it. I actually think it was because I was one of the first and he was still too nervous, because I saw him smiling and opening up more and more while the fansign went on. When he gave me a high five he intertwined our fingers and said he is happy just like this. I told him that he is cute especially when he smiles and that he is loved by me and Atiny. He got so shy and said thank you ~

Wooyoung was so shy. You know how he always acts so confident, but he is such a shy bean and insecure. And he is pure. So we two were actually just two shy beans sitting in front of each other that didn’t know what to do. But he still has much more confidence than I do. The bit we talked were all initiated by him ^^

Jongho

Jongho is so precious. And he just basically overflows with confidence. I was a wreck when I finally came to him but he was so nice and understandable. His english is really good and you could see that he knows what effect he had. His post-it not was to rank his members from the funniest to the lamest. He started but then decided he want my opinion too. So we sorted them together when he struggled with deciding who was funnier. He smiled so much at me and holds deep eye contact while talking actually. We laughed together about his hippo head and the choices he made on the post-it. When I needed to get up he told me I was cute (this btch). I told him he was cute too and he didn't believe me (maybe because of the hippopotamus head). Since he was sitting in front of me we had some cute moments when he was bored. Looking and smiling at me, encouraging me to take pictures of him

Jongho gives really down to earth vibes. He was so calm. Sure he was confident but he was bubbling with energy and happines you could see in his eyes how he was containing himself. And the respect he gives you. I was red as a tomato when I finally reached him (I saw that on video, so no one can tell me otherwise), but he talked normally with me ignoring my internal struggles. He only broke when I told him that he's cute :D

Final words

This fansign was THE best day in my life so far. 

If you ever get the chance to meet them or you are struggling to decide if you wanna try to see them just do it. Its worth the stress and the money and your time. (The fansign actually cost me less than the concert ^^)

They ruined my biaslist those 2 days completly. Yunho at the concert and everyone else at the fansign. San is still on top and will forever stay there tho.

you have to practically beg Percy for him to lay down a little so you can take of his injuries and take a nap with you, mainly because you’re so concerned about his physical and mental strain, but also for the selfish pleasure of having him only to you

him being the cheeky hero that he is - “well, if this is what my general commands” with a sly smile, but you can read the absolute exhaustion beneath his sea-green eyes

he never really had much interested in anything acamedic or school-related, what with his dyslexia and ADHD making it harder for him to concentrate for long periods of time on given subjects (and, you know, the occasional saving-the-world thing taking up a little of his time), but once he discovers how passionate you are about school stuff he’s tempted to make an effort and support you

when you have a big test coming up and you have to study, Percy typically sits (spins, actually) on a chair in your bedroom while you’re at your desk and randomly exclaims pop quizzes about the subject to make sure that you know everything

if there is one thing that Tony Stark hates more than losing, it’s losing to you. when you get that smug little smile of yours and start prancing around the Avengers Tower like you’re queen of the world because you beat him in whatever stupid thing you were both doing and it’s !!!! ARGH infuriating he hates it. no, really, he does. totally does not like it at all. it’s only for the pleasure of CRUSHING YOU to pieces that he constantly challenges you to anything and everything.

chess nights at the Avengers Tower have never been wilder and tenser. (except for Bruce, who just enjoys the whole debacle, giggling in the background, because he can see you’re both so bad and he could have won this whole thing three rounds ago. unless you’re looking to prolong the fun?)

both of you taunting the other to give up now and save themselves the humiliation of the slaughter you’re preparing. metaphorical or physical slaughter, no one really knows, especially because it never comes. the only way these dreaded, hellish chess games end is either in blood after Natasha throws the board in utter despair, or with you both having fallen asleep in the middle of moving your knight

there is a tenderness, however, in the way you care about each other, but you don’t show it that much, as if this sudden vulnerability came into conflict with the other sides of your personality. but it is undeniable. you care about each other, deeply. it’s enough to see how whomever woke up first from the infamous chess half-night wraps the other in a blanket and gently eyes them as the sun rises slowly

how you nag him to take a break when he’s been overworking himself, fighting all the threats and taking upon his shoulders the responsibility of saving the whole universe (and more)

Lucas Thomas (It Lives In The Woods)

I mean, if Lucas isn’t a nerd already, he turns into a big one whenever he’s with you. how could he not? you exude radiance and positivity and passion whenever you explain in great detail whatever you book you finished last week and you’re still obsessed with. how you pick up on the character development and how clever the symbolism is and just... ugh Lucas please baby read it you’ll see it’s just so good. with a laugh, he says he’ll try to fit it in his schedule. it sounds like the lame excuse you’d give someone when you’re not interested at all, but actually the first thing he does on his way back home from school is stop at the public library and borrow the book

he finishes it in one night, as you can tell by the foot-long bags under his eyes the next morning at school (longer than usual, anyways), but also by the content, even smug little smile that he wears on his face.

“so, what did you think about it??” you ask, hopeful, when you notice that he doesn’t seem completely apalled by the experience

cue montage of you two enthusiastically discussing every aspect of the book and the writing and the worldbuilding over lunch, in between classes, and even when you’re supposed to be studying

when you actually do study though, it’s always very intense because Lucas takes his homework and academic success very seriously. maybe even too seriously? you’re the one who makes sure that he catches a break every two hours to grab some water or take a breath of fresh air

he doesn’t need it, though, he retaliates, and you would find it agonizingly cute and endearing if you weren’t so mad that the boy will NOT listen to you. “you are my breath of fresh air”, he murmurs with a boop on your nose, before getting back to work

My fashion queen, incredibly important question: How would one go about figuring out fashion *style* for characters? I've noticed your OCs always have a Look(TM), and I've gathered from your blog (and fics) that you've got an eye for aestethics - please, could you give me advice at least where to *start*. I'm completely unaware of fashion and, frankly, completely overwhelmed at the prospect of just starting..

Ah! Previous Anon again - forgot to add a more specific question about fashion (I’m squeezing in 2 quesiton in one xD). Do you have fashion advice for sleek/distant female character’s clothing that doesn’t hinge on formal dresses? (as is discernable, I have literally NO idea what a Grown Ass, Self Respecting Woman would wear)

wow. that’s high praise. when i got this yesterday morning, i knew i wanted to give it the answer it deserved. this is over 1500 words long, so apologies to anyone on mobile, but i wasn’t letting go until i’d really sunk my teeth into it.

unfortunately, since you’re anon, i don’t know enough about your character to suggest anything specific. instead, i want to take a step back and see if we can solve the root of the problem - “where do i start?”

when i was a teenager, an english teacher told me this: “the biggest constraint in writing is no constraint at all.” when you have the whole spectrum of something - in this case, clothes - to pick from, it is overwhelming. the natural human instinct is to freeze up. so while it may sound strange, if you’re just starting out, you might feel better if you have some constraints to work within.

with that in mind, you can treat finding a ‘signature look’ for your character like solving a murder mystery. you eliminate all the suspects that don’t fit until you know enough to narrow it down to the one that does. that’s going to involve something else you’ll recognize from murder mysteries: you’re going to have to interrogate the character. open them up and get to know them - their background, their likes and dislikes, their quirks, the role they play in the world around them. every answer will give you clues and weed other things out, and eventually, you’ll get a box small enough that you feel comfortable working in it.

now, i love fashion, and i love using clothes to send messages about a character’s personality. so as someone who’s had that interest for my whole life, i work from the other end. the constraints happen, in large part, without me thinking about them. i tend to zoom right to a certain aesthetic or item of clothing, say, “okay, what outfit can i build with this,” and go from there. but since you’ve said you’re “unaware” of fashion and it’s intimidating to you, i’ll try to ease you in through a different route and see whether that helps.

so, if we’re going to pick your character apart, let’s think about some practical questions first:

what setting does your character live in?

if you’ve narrowed your setting down to a historical decade, you’ll find most of the style questions already - firmly! - answered for you. for example, a victorian woman would, by default, wear skirts. if the character is contemporary, you’ve got a lot more wiggle room. if you want to mess with historical fashion rules for symbolic or story purposes, awesome, but i think that’s probably more advanced than you’re looking for right now.

if the setting is fantasy or sci-fi, what’s its dominant aesthetic? is it cyberpunk? sleek ~apple~ sci-fi? or is it more like star wars? is it medieval fantasy? woodsy faerie fantasy? JRPG-style fantasy? you get the idea.

what does your character do?

speaks for itself. what’s their job?

what is your character like, just in general?

this is where everything you know about their personality goes. if they’re a fussy courtier who’s worried about their reputation and appearance, they’re probably not going to be comfortable in plain, casual clothes.

what can your character afford to wear?

again, speaks for itself. do they buy designer brands? are they trying their best with what they have? or are they super strapped for cash and just have to get the job done?

does their social scene have an easily-identifiable aesthetic that you could work with?

does your character wear urban/street fashion or preppy rich-kid clothes? are they part of a subculture that dresses in a certain way, like teddy boys? do they have the desire or freedom to go all-in with that style, or do they have to play it down, like being corporate goth?

do they need to wear something they could travel, do hard work, or fight in?

goes with the job question above. do they need some kind of outerwear or accessory where they can hide weapons? do they always need to be ready, or is it situational?

basically, where does the character’s aesthetic need to sit on a chart of form vs. function?

what do other characters who are similar to your character wear?

look at your favorite movies, games, and TV shows and see what professional designers are doing with characters like yours. what colors and cuts are they using? what other elements do they choose? do you like them? if you don’t like them, what would you change? sometimes you can learn more from what you hate than what you love.

hopefully, you’ve already culled a huge swath of fashion ideas that you Know You’re Not Going To Do. you may still not know what you do want to do, either! that’s fine. let’s move onto some more artsy questions:

are there any colors your character would prefer or avoid?

it sounds silly. it’s not. a limited color palette will go a long way toward making a character’s outfits look unified and purposeful. obviously, in real life, most people don’t restrict themselves as much as fictional characters do. but if you were a costume designer, you’d want to have some guideposts to work with.

are there any motifs you associate with your character?

animals, elements, religious or cultural symbols, plants - you can sneak all these into their clothes’ details. maybe their dress has beading in the shape of a peacock, or rose earrings, or icy sparkles, or a bear pelt for a cloak.

have fun with meanings! moon motifs for mysteriousness, poisonous flowers, etc. let your inner lit major out.

do you want your character to have a certain silhouette?

this may seem odd if you’re just going to be writing your character and not drawing them, but think about it anyway. do you want to emphasize that your character is tall? is everything they wear skintight? do they have a large, unique hat?

a great example of this is maleficent. not only does she have a horn-shaped headdress, her huge, flowing robe tells us there’s a much bigger power in her than her body would suggest.

is there a certain ethos you want their clothes to project? what, in their world, would do that? what in our world would do that?

let’s say you want your character to look very powerful, to the point where people would find their looks alone intimidating. should they wear sharp, simple, severe clothes, maybe in dark colors? or should they wear very embellished clothes, like royalty? what are your setting’s ideas about beauty? modesty? does your character play by the rules, or do you want them to stand out?

what colors, shapes, and styles appeal to you personally?

for all the time i’ve spent talking about restrictions and guidelines, it’s important not to lose the fun of it, either. use your favorite color! give them clothes you’d want to wear in real life! character style is a playground where you can let wish fulfillment run wild.

at any time, feel free to turn to google or wikipedia if you’re not sure how to answer one of these questions. if you see an interesting idea, pick it up and follow it - what you’re doing here is training your eye, and that’s how you’ll learn. that said, if you’re already intimidated, i wouldn’t dive too deep into couture/aesthetic blogs until i had a more solid grip on how i wanted the character to look. it comes back to what i said earlier - there is such a thing as too much to choose from, especially when you’re not sure what you should be looking for yet.

there’s one other thing i want to mention that can help bring a character’s wardrobe together: repetition. if you’re planning several outfits for a character instead of just one, echo some of the motifs, shapes, or colors from one to the next. they don’t all have to be identical takes on the same thing, but if they have certain traits in common, they’ll feel less like separate outfits and more like a matched set. they could all be in members of the same color family or have similar patterns on them. maybe your character has a certain accessory that they wear with everything. you get the idea.

while i may not be able to plan your character’s wardrobe outright, i hope this makes the whole process seem more straightforward. or that it gives you some ideas to work with, or any other kind of help you might take away from it. this post is getting unfathomably long, so i’ll wrap it up, but i’d be happy to put any of my own characters through a “question test” like this one if you’d like to see how it works in practice.

finally, if you can find an interview with an artist or costume designer who worked on something you like, those things are worth their weight in gold. i read an interview with colleen atwood when i was in middle school, and it revolutionized the way i thought about fashion and storytelling. and when i say “revolutionized,” i mean “i owe basically everything i just told you to that article.” dig into them and see how they think and talk about their art! they’re more qualified to teach you than i ever will be.

S-Support Wallpapers: Style 3

Here you go! The one you guys asked for! :D

Download the Photoshop file for this style here! All the layers, effects, and backgrounds are already ready for you to use and play around with. I would assume you know the basics of how to navigate the program, but I’ll try to take it slow if you’re still new to Photoshop.

NOTE: I made this using Photoshop CS6! It should still open with the other versions (??), but you might have to adjust when following the tutorial.

Style 3, Type A

To start with, you’ll need the portrait art and the special attack for your characters. To place your files into Photoshop, go to File>Place>then find where your images are>Place. Put the portrait artworks into the “Original 1″ group folder, and the attack art into “Original 2″ group folder. I would recommend duplicating those folders before you do anything with them in case you mess up and need to restart.

Also, I recommend having the Navigator window on when editing. Go to Window>Navigator to turn it on. This will help when you’re positioning your characters. When the canvas is upside down, the Navigator will keep the rightside-up view. Then rotate your canvas (R) to 180 degrees. Doing this will help your design look even.

We’ll be working with the portraits first for Type A, so let’s go to the “Original 1″ group folder. Place your character images in between the layers named “Rectangle 1 copy” and “Rectangle 1″. 

Select both of your character image layers and resize them together (CTRL+T). You don’t have to make them too big. Just enough that both characters fit the wallpaper area from their thigh-up. Put one character on the bottom, and one upside down on the opposite side from the first character, as seen from the examples above. Here’s how my example looks.

Once you got your characters positioned, duplicate their layers. Then, add the Black and White adjustment for each of the duplicated layers. You can find that here:

Make sure to clip the adjustment layers to the character image layers! You don’t want to have the black and white effect affect other layers. To do this, you can either right click on the adjustment layer, and the find “Create Clipping Mask”, or press Alt as your mouse hovers over the line between the layers. The mouse will turn into a box with an arrow beside it. And then click to create a clipping mask. Now your layers should look like this.

Double click on the adjustments layer to open the settings for that effect. Play around with the presets to find a look that makes your character POP. You can change the settings manually, but that takes too much time for me, so I just use the presets. Here’s an example of how different Takumi looks in different presets.

Feel free to adjust the preset if it has something you want, but not quite exactly how you want it to look. For me, I’m going to use the High Contrast Blue Filter look for Takumi, but darkened his blue values so his sleeves pop more.

Once you found a black and white look for your one character, do the same for the other

On to the next step! Use the layer mask on the copied images, the ones with the black and white adjustment on them. You can find the layer mask icon on the bottom of the layers panel. Mine is grayed out because I have two layers selected; it can only be used for one layer at a time. Your layers should look similar to this now.

We need the layer mask to bring out the colors of the characters’ hair and eyes from the bottom layers. Bring out your brush tool (B) and start erasing out parts of the black and white layers. To “erase”, make sure you’re using the color black as you’re brushing away what you don’t want, and use the color white if you want to bring something back. Use the X button to toggle back and forth quickly between these two colors. This part can get meticulous, so take your time and be patient! It’ll look cool when you’re done!

After that, zoom out a whole lot (Alt+Z). We’re going to make the eyes in the background. You can skip this step if you don’t like having the eyes. But I think they’re cool so that’s why I put them there XD

Select all the layers that involve the character images. The includes, the Black and White Adjustment layer, the copied layer, and the original layer. With two characters, that will be 6 layers you select. Now duplicate those. Put those new layers in between the layers named “Rectangle 1″ and “Layer 2″. 

Do not make a group folder these new layers! You’ll marge them in a bit, so endure a bit of clutter for now. Select the 3 layers for one character and enlarge them together. Like make them suuuuuuper big! Big enough that a single eye, or both eyes (if one eye is not big enough for the space), is shown in the empty space next to the character. Do the same for the second character. 

Then once you got the eyes positioned in the empty spaces, go ahead and merge the sets (select the desired layer and CTRL+E)! This will make it easier for the next part.

Change both opacities for these huge layers to 40%. Then use the Eraser tool (E) to erase the edges around the eyes to give it a faded look. Change the setting to a very large eraser size and 0% hardness.

Do not press and hold down the mouse as you erase! Use single clicks because that will give you more control on the faded look.

On to the last step! The gradient color. Use the Gradient tool (G) to change the colors of “Layer 2″. Use the colors of the character’s hair. You don’t need to use the Eyedropper tool for this. Just use the general colors of their hair. For mine, I’ll be using red and a light brown color.

Put the character’s hair color behind their partner’s. For example, I will put Celica’s red hair color where Takumi is, and I’ll put Takumi’s hair color behind where Celica is. Sanaki’s purple hair color is behind Shigure, and Shigure’s blue hair color is behind Sanaki.

If the characters have similar hair colors, make one value darker than the other.

And now Type A is done!

Style 3, Type B

To start, move one character above the “Rectangle 1″ layer and the other character above “Rectangle 2″ layer. Then clip each images above their respective rectangle layers. For me, I would put the character who was at the bottom from Type A at the top, and the top character from Type A to be at the bottom. 

(If you haven’t noticed it, inversions is the main thing in Style 3).

Resize and position your characters so that they’ll show bust-up in their rectangles. You can zoom out further and show from their waist, but I think the eye effect we’ll be making later on will get lost.

Once you set your character’s positions, duplicate them. We’ll be doing another Black and White adjustment + layer mask effect.

However, the difference here is that you’d have to merge the Black and White adjustment layer and the copy before you make a layer mask! So make sure you got your black and white settings the way you want before you merge! Also, you can add in an Exposure adjustment above the black and white layers if you’d like to increase the contrast for each image.

Once you’re done, put the layer mask on the black and white images. Bring color back only to the eyes. Then, make a new layer above each of the black and white layer. We’re going to use that for the streak that comes out of the eyes.

Draw in a streak of the character’s eye color coming out of their eyes. Use an eraser with 0% hardness to erase the ends. And then once you have the streaks down, change the layer mode to give it a luminescent look. Which layer mode you choose is up to you.

When you got that set, double click on the colored version of the character. We’ll be adding an Outer Glow effect on it. The color for the glow effect will be the same color as the character’s eyes. You can set however you want the glow to look like. My preference is Normal mode, 100% opacity, 0% spread, and 15px size.

The layers should look similar to this bottom image at this stage.

For the background, this will be similar to Type A, but the only difference is that we’ll be using eye colors instead of hair colors. We’ll still place the colors opposite of who owns it.

And that’s how you make Style 3! I hope that tutorial was understandable. My ask box and DMs are always open if you have any questions.

Webkinz ask game

No one asked me questions, but I’m gonna fill it out anyways since I’m bored.

1. How many webkinz do you have entered online?      44! I have more plushies than that, though.

2. When did you first start playing?      It was in 2006, I got a cocker spaniel (Brownie) for my 7th birthday!

3. Who’s your favorite mascot?      I’m not sure if they are technically a mascot or NPC, but I really always loved Arte and Doctor Quack!

4. Which of your Kinz do you play as/with the most?      I always fill up all of the hearts of my webkinz, so I don’t really have a main until they are all full. At that point I use my favorite at the time- right now it’s Brandy.

5. What’s your favorite theme?      Ugh! Hard question. I really loved the aquatic theme when I first discovered it, and I still love it!

6. If you could get a webkinz of your choice to register right now, which would it be?      I would choose the bullfrog! I got a plushie of them at a thrift store, but I don’t have a code. I really want one online, but why buy another plushie + code when I already have a plushie? It might be my only option at this point though....

7. How many rooms do you have at the moment?      66. I like to keep my house an even square, so I bought a bunch of extra rooms. (I ended up buying more when I needed specific sizes of rooms, so it’s not even square anymore XD)

8. What’s your favorite food item?      I really like the Berrirbrite Blast. It looks so yummy!

9. Do you collect any items?      I collect pretty much everything. I like owning one of everything in any game, minus the super common stuff I can easily buy at the w-shop if I need it. So, rare items, PSIs, wish machine items, quest prizes, etc.

10. What’s your favorite type of pet?      I really like the old style pets, like the old cats, dogs, pig, bear... the ones with that fur texture, you know??? the one??? It reminds me of my childhood.

11. Do you tend to theme your rooms or just wing it?      I tend to just go by colors of pieces that look good together :)

12. Have you ever gotten the Crown of Wonder?      yes!!! Birthday wears it all the time :D

13. Do you have any headcanons?      Not for NPCs, but all of my kinz!

14. Do your kinz have backgrounds or backstories?      Some of them do! Most of them don’t have backstories, but just personalities and how they interact with each other. I really love writing, so I’ve written some stories about my kinz. If you all would like to see them, just let me know!

15. What made you start playing again?      I saw my plushies when I was moving, and remembered the overwhelming JOY they gave me when I was a kid. I brought up my account- I still remembered the password, but the account was archived. A few days later, I was back!

16. Are you a deluxe member? Have you been in the past?      I was not a deluxe member until November of 2018 when deluxe was on sale, and I hope it goes on sale again next year for black friday again! Even if it isn’t on sale, I will renew.

17. Do you have the mobile app?      I do! I don’t use it often, mainly for the daily wheel of wow spin, and sometimes the arcade to get a little kinzcash when I’m on my break at work.

18. What was your first webkinz?      My first webkinz was a cocker spaniel, named Brownie! She was given to me on my 7th birthday :D

19. Have you ever misspelled one of your pet’s names when adopting them?      Two! Bananas, my monkey, his name isn’t capitalized. Bungie, on the other hand, his name wasn’t accepted (probably because it has bun in it, but buttercup worked??? so we can use butt and not bun? I did adopt buttercup in 2006 though...) His name is B -my last name-.

20. What’s your favorite item you have?      Oooh this is a hard one! I really really like the darling garden shelves!

21. If you could change something about the game, what would it be?      For some reason, webkinz is a lot louder than any other tab. There is no way to adjust the volume, as far as I am aware. This makes it hard for me to do other things while playing webkinz. Also, way too many ads if you don’t have deluxe or ad blocker.

22. Do you go to the Kinzville Academy?      Not really! If a pet requests it, yeah, or a quest, totally. Other than that, no.

23. Do you do quests in the Adventure Park?      Not really! I do them every once it a while, but most of the time I forget it exists. 

24. What’s your favorite events in webkinz?      I really like the holiday collection events! Even though I log on almost every day, i brings a bit of variety and I love it :D

25. What’s your favorite daily activity?      My favorite is doing the gem hunt! I just love the whole atmosphere, music, and chance. 

we stan Please Save my Earth!! I always get so happy when i find a fan lol anyways did you read the sequel? i wanted to, like so so much because i've heard good thing about it but the change in the art turn me off, it is so bad?????

Yaaaaay, always good to find PSME fans! : D (This is primarily an Akatsuki no Yona blog, though.) I did read the sequel (Boku wo Tsutsumu Tsuki no Hikari, which takes place 15 years later) and although it has wonky art, I did enjoy it. I’m also four volumes into the sequel to the sequel, Boku wa Chikyuu to Utau, which takes place another 4 years later. My feelings toward both are a little complicated, so I’ll discuss Boku-Tsuki first (and I’ll also answer your other questions behind the cut, since this will get long!): 

I love PSME so much that OF COURSE I love having more of it and seeing what the characters are doing when they’re older (though I’m sad that characters like Rin’s mom and Boon never made appearances! Tamura himself only had one scene, haha). It’s a very different story at first, which a fun focus on the children of a few of the old characters (plus some other kids they meet). I liked the kids’ relationships and perspectives a lot, with the PSME lore as background. I was hit and miss with how the old cast wound up, and it inevitably has colored how I look back at them in the original. However, I found the last arc (which spanned a few volumes) pretty… I don’t know. The phrase that comes to mind is a Chinese idiom, “pulling up sprouts to make them grow faster”, which means “spoiling by excessive enthusiasm”. It started to feel like Rin, Alice, Mokuren, and Shion were getting strangled by excessive drama/development. It’s like their characters were no longer allowed room to breathe. And it was during this arc that Hiwatari noticed that it was started to become a different story, which was why she abruptly asked her editor if she could conclude the series and start a new one under a different title. That makes sense, because Boku-Uta takes those changes a lot further. With this one, I feel it’s really overindulging in extra background development, which takes away from the mystique of the original.It’s also…. just weird. Like, Hiwatari writes weird stuff,  that’s why she’s so beloved because her stories are so unique. ^_^ I’ve read a lot (but not all) of her other works, and I loooooved stuff like Global Garden because–although the art style was wonky–I’ve never read anything quite like it. Well, except for PSME–it’s funny how it uses so many similar themes but plays them in such a different way. 

But with Boku-Uta, it’s like her publishers just stepped out of her way and said “you know what, you have such a fanbase that people will buy it no matter what you write, so go ahead, add more magic cats.” 

So, like, I really want to like this one too, but I find it difficult to. I do really like the continued developments of the younger generation which Boku-Tsuki focused on, but other than that, I find it difficult to enjoy. I read Volume 4 around 2am in an airport and just felt angry by the time I finished because some of the new plot twists just felt so stupid. XDSo, in conclusion, yes, Boku-Tsuki has a lot of merits, but it’s going to change your experience of PSME, which is why I can understand why a lot of PSME fans didn’t like it or choose not to read it. Boku-Uta is a natural progression from the ending of that one, so if you choose to read Boku-Tsuki, keep that in mind. But hey, I AM such a big Hiwatari fan that I know I’m going to buy every volume of Boku-Uta anyway. Maybe it’ll redeem itself in my eyes, it still has some interesting elements keeping me going. Okay, on to your other PSME Ask: “sorry, i just found this tumblr so i’m going to ask a lot of PSME questions lol: favorite characters and why?“I love this question. : D Ironically I was just talking with a friend about this the other day since she’s borrowing the manga from me, and I didn’t really know how to answer it. As stated before, my perceptions of the characters has been affected by reading Boku-Tsuki.So like… just because they get the best development, how can I NOT love the Rin-Alice-Shion-Mokuren quatrad?? I keep going back and forth over the years between who of those four is my favorite. While reading the manga for the first time while I was a teen I think I usually leaned more toward Rin and Alice, but now maybe it’s Shion and Mokuren?? I don’t know XDDDAs for OTHER characters, though, part of what I love about it is that there are so many good supporting characters, especially beyond the basic seven kids and their past lives. So here are a few that come to mind to write some thoughts on: Haruhiko: I haaaaaaaated him with a passion as I was reading the manga because he was so whiny and helpless, UNTIL I got to the volume when he confessed everything to Alice, Jinpachi, and Issei, and it was like a switch was flipped and he became one of my favorites because of how much courage he had. You know how he really lightens up and gets comfortable talking with Alice later on? That’s the sort of person he remains in the sequel, which has made me like him even more. He’s mature and mostly at peace with his past, but not totally, and he can recognize that about himself without it taking over. But he’s not totally mature either—you know that scene when he fakes having heart trouble and then gets Alice to stop? And how he makes that “What did you think I was going to do? I’m not Shion!” joke right afterward? That’s the sort of nasty side of his personality that I love too. Looking back at the start of the series now, I see that he was courageous and understanding all along, he just had an extremely weighty situation to deal with. Mikuro: I can never see him the same way again after the sequel (in which he’s a major character). XDD It’s clear that he’s always been a pet OC of Hiwatari’s, but the cool, hard-boiled original character designs for him are nothing like the adult he’s become. He tries so hard to play it cool, but the guy’s a helpless dweeb sometimes. I always found it exciting to learn more about his EPIA life. An extra one-shot (Things Accidently Left Behind, I think it’s called?) gives a lot more backstory for him and introduces more of the EPIA characters, who I enjoy. (Fun fact: Remember his friend Tomoko who was briefly mentioned? She winds up marrying his brother Hokuto. XD Mikuro winds up in a complicated relationship with an American psychic named Pamela, whom I also really like, she’s a hoot.)Mode: I loved her as soon as I met her (and although I’m okay with how she was used in the final arc of the sequel, I sort of wish she could have been left as-is too). She was, through and through, such a good friend, but I like her sense of responsibility as a caretaker too. Lazlo: How can I not love Lazlo!!? The sob story gets played up a little TOO much and I think it was effective as-is in the original (like, we didn’t need to know that he and Kyaa got into the car accident while bringing home a toy for Shion to try to make him smile). In fact, it was Lazlo who made me realize that I have interest in being a foster mother someday. Rin’s Mom: She’s got such a rough job, seriously. She had a break-down, which I don’t blame her for, but I love the courage and understanding she shows after that. She’s the mom who Shion always deserved. Hajime: Always a favorite. XD But I also love that he’s not a huge influence on the story either, his mission has always been to support and take care of Alice, even if that means being critical of her decisions. There are a few extra chapters in Boku-Tsuki discussing Rin & Alice’s early parenting years, and they’re told from Hajime’s POV (he wasn’t exactly happy with the shocking situation), which I really enjoy. Daisuke/Hiiragi: He’s not as big a favorite now (because in some ways he and Jinpachi grew into lame adults XD), but I always liked him and found it funny how despite being the leader, he basically has no influence and is the least important of the seven. XDD It was liking him in a sort of feeling bad for him kind of way. The Lians: Part of what’s so cool about PSME is the development of the Homeworld, and I thought the role of the Lians fleshed out that world really well. Seeing Shion’s different relationships with them (they’re all doing their best, but the older one clearly has more of a way with him) was a nice touch. Plus, I just like and respect nuns in the first place, so that influences my view of them.

Tamura:  When I first read/watched it, I didn’t like him much because I thought he was too nosy and I just wanted to focus on the younger cast; the yakuza subplot was a turn-off at first. But looking back on it, Tamura is a such a great and unexpected driver of the plot for a shoujo manga. Nowadays if I rewatch or reread it, you’ll even hear me squeal about seeing Takeshi again. XDDIssei & Sakura: They are such a stinking cute, girly married couple in the sequel, and now it’s hard to ever see them the same way as in the original when I could just appreciate how their deep friendship took shape. If anything I didn’t want them to get married because that felt trite and like a Pair-the-Spares trope and it made it seem like that was the only possible result of a deep friendship between a girl and formal-girl-now-guy-on-purpose-due-to-failed-romance. BUT!! Boku-Uta does provide a nice insight on that, which I appreciate, and which explains why the other three are singletons (being from the Homeworld, they have a different wavelength from regular earthlings, which is why they harmonize well together (as do Rin and Alice), whereas Daisuke, Jinpachi, and Haruhiko can’t find partners to be in the same harmony with). But to back up a bit, Issei’s subplots was one of my favorites in the original. That scene when he “releases” Enju’s soul to go out and love deeply again was so sweet. : DSo like, I pretty much like EVERYONE due to deep attachment for the series, though my thoughts and feelings change over the years. These are just the thoughts coming to mind at the moment. XD

Eldarya Valentine Event Review

So, as everyone who reads the guide blog knows, I try my best to stay 400% neutral there; I don't want to impose my opinions on people who just want to know what the right answers are and, to be honest, I tend to keep to myself anyway. But I've often been asked to share my opinions at least on this Tumblr (there was actually a poll a few years ago, where I asked if people wanted that and I just realized I never started posting opinions anyway. XD sorry, I'm so terribad at this) so here I am, being asked my thoughts on the matter and answering, for once. I also noticed I suck at tagging; blame the fact that this is just an info-blog about the guide website, I promise I'll go back and sort them out. I will tag Personal opinion posts or the ones about myself with "Purrsonal" so you can skip them if you want. (All) that being said, the Valentine event... under the cut because it’s extra long.

As usual, it started with bugs. Yeah, ok, let's move on, there is nothing new to say. I really wish they tested this stuff a bit before tossing it on us. 

"Victim of its own success" my @$$.

Outfits: Truth be told, I overall don't like them. There are some pieces that I find absolutely great but that is it. Valkyon's especially is really weird to look at, more like a chastity device than date outfit, even if I do like the boots, and the shoulderpads aren't that bad I guess. Hopefully people have better taste than me and can appreciate them more, but for me, having to pay potentially so much more than usual for outfits that I like far less was a bit of a disappointment.

Money: In that regard, yes you do pay more, a lot more, it's not just you, it's a fact. On average (there was some market involved, plus the occasional energy potion... blablabla) the 2017 event, assuming optimal completion (not spending more than strictly necessary) cost a whole 80 maana (or less!) for 3 outfits. The 2018 event? 0. Yep, all free. 2019? We are talking about 1200 maana (optimal completion) and we all know many of us didn't optimally complete. It sucked.

True, this is the only event you can finish early without spending a single gold coin (2017 and 2018 required gold coins if you made mistakes or skipped some days that didn't depend on knowing the answers), but it's also the only event where if you want the companion you have to pay. 2017? present from Leiftan, free. 2018, Completion Prize, free.

Companion: As someone who watched My Little Pony as a toddler, it's simply adorable. Diabetes-inducing adorable, but still adorable. Plus, it's animated (but it kinda looks like it's having a seizure...)! Is it the start of a trend? Stats are really not great (unless puberty hits reaaally hard and the adult is a half-miracle), but I caved in and bought it at least on the Italian version. It sucks that it's not free. :( The fact that the companion could only be obtained by paying for it was the biggest downside of this event for me, and I think that it was also the first time this happened outside an episode since the game came out internationally. /Sadpanda.

Background: I love backgrounds, and this is very sugary, but beautiful; I just wish it didn't replace the companion as completion reward, because if I HAD to choose between the 2, I would have preferred the latter, as much as I wish we had more event backgrounds, companions are just more useful, especially for newbies.

Mechanics: My biggest complain here is the cost, too high. We had all foreseen the use of the newly acquired alchemy minigame as the engine for this event, and while some don't like it, I was ok with that. It's just too expensive to be likable. We never had to pay so much for a Valentine event and I hope it won't repeat itself. On the bright side, it's not a skill minigame, so it's not something we can fail. Considering the issues many had during the last events, perahps at least THAT is a good thing. It's nice that you can find the ingredients everywhere, including the low energy areas, but I would have preferred if they had split the loot pool among them instead of everything dropping everywhere; finding everything you need for a specific outfit, especially the scrolls, is extremely hard with these chances, and the scrolls are 100 maana. Which brings me to the next point: the final questions. While I like the idea of a tiny-mini-episode inside the event with its answers to guess, God Bless the guides, because I'd like to see people complete this event using no extra maana or gold, without relying on people who paid to advance faster. If you try to do it staying in those 1200 maana, the optimal completion, you submit yourselves to the the RNGesus, and it could take DAYS to complete a route. Now, imagine getting a couple of answers wrong, and having to wait a DAY to retry... get them all wrong and you take 13 days JUST for the answers... it's a bit crazy. Cant we have, I don't know, an attempt every 4-6 hours? It's like they are really trying hard to make us spend money this time around.

Story: Well, can't say that I liked seeing Gardienne "Unable to control herself" and cheating on her boyfriend, mostly because I don't think it was necessary. If you haven't played episode 19 yet, the boyfriend is not mentioned, as you are in that weird out-of-time situation where there is no boyfriend yet, and it doesn't feel as terrible. Yes, "you" are still kissing someone you may not like for the sake of the outfit/illustration with no option to opt out, but at the same time, it's quite mild and it is just a dream... I wish it had been like that for accounts past episode 19 as well. This version leaves a sour taste in my mouth and knocks my Erika LOM meter down a few notches. Yes, I understand it's a dream, and I'm fully aware people dream really weird stuff sometimes, where you do things you'd never do in real life and have no control over yourself, but she doesn't even show any embarassment or regret upon waking up. I also do not identify with the MC in this kind of game so I'm mighty fine with disliking her or her actions (not the first time~~~); I would probably not have minded a situation like this for the story's sake. It would have been interesting to explore (although, I'm always a bit scared about trusting Beemoov with this stuff, they can't handle it very well). But it is supposed to be a cute valentine event, and it would have taken so little to make this more palatable for everyone. Was it really necessary to add this tiny bit of angst?

Overall opinion: I know I criticized a lot, this event was probably among the ones I've liked the least, mostly for the excessive cost and some debatable choices on the story. I did like some things though, including using the alchemy minigame (I know I'm in the minority here :p), mostly because it requires no skill, something that has caused issues in the past - minigames hard to play on touch screens, color impairments, etc., etc. - and I liked the fact that they removed Daily gates - the fact you couldn't advance past the missions of the day unless you paid. This event could be completed in a day if you wanted, and with a bit of luck without spending a single gold coin, that was nice. I'm not sure I would like another event like this, but there was some potential that I hope won't be immediately discarded.

Loved the best (ranked 1st to 4th + Bonus to be fair since I listed 5 things I dislike XD): 1. I LOVE THE TIMER ON THE CORNER, underappreciated little bastard *heart* 2. No daily gates, you could finish the entire event in one day or in 12, without spending extra money. 2. The mini-episode at the end. The idea of it at least, I've already said I don't like some of the... content. 3. No luck with explorations? You can finish the event with maana. It's nice that you can use maana (and not gold coins) to finish the event if you are unlucky or don't have enough time. 4. No hard-to-do minigames (I've never had an issue with them, but I've heard of hundreds of people who did.) 5. The background and the companion were overly cute.

Hated the beast (ranked 1st to 4th + Special guest star): 1. Companion in Gold coins only, my biggest disappointment 2. The whole cheating thing. Why? Was it needed? 3. Having to pay maana for an event, when the ones before were all free 4. Disregarding personal taste, I don't think Valkyon outfit was suited for a Valentine day date. 5. And once again, the bugs. I just... don't... have... any polite words left for it. It's last only because it's featured in every single event, so it has lost the novelty effect.
