Octopath Traveler Yuu and Dorm Leader Stories
by stories, i mean what has each of them go on their respective journeys. im replaying octopath traveler 2 again, and i figured i might as well get some sort of solid base for each of the twst traveler's stories xD
riddle's story would most likely be about him chasing down a criminal. as the hunter, he brings order to both the forest and the town. i'll probably have his starting town either be in the leaflands or toto'haha. the criminal could be disturbing the ecosystem wherever they go, and riddle will have none of that. it's the duty of a hunter to keep the ecosystem balanced, to take only what you need
leona's story will be about taking his kingdom back, like hikari. farena has been usurped by a scheming court official and cheka's whereabouts are unknown after the coup. his starting town will be in hinouema. he lost everything and became a thief, planning to one day take back his home
azul's story is about him expanding his business. he's a successful merchant, but on his journey, he'll learn what it means to be a true merchant. kinda going the opposite direction of partitio's story in which a successful merchant will see just how important it is to share and share alike. his starting town will probably be in the brightlands or harborlands
kalim's story is basically the same as agnea's only he's doing it undercover because he's the son of a very wealthy noble family that's comparable to the rondwell family and roque brilliante. his story will differ in the fact that people are looking to take him down both in the world of dancing and in the world of nobles by any means necessary. if azul's starting town is in the brightlands then kalim will be in the harborlands
vil's story will be about finding the source of a poison. he's a traveling apothecary who happened to stumble upon a case of mysterious poisonings. this story might change, but this is what i got for now. his starting town will most definitely be in the winterlands because snow white xD
idia's story will start when ortho forces him to go out and see the world. im not entirely sure what his journey will be though. maybe something like cyrus's story where he'll have to find a missing something. or maybe he gets caught up in something and now he has to go find the mastermind. if riddle is in toto'haha, then idia will be in the leaflands which is ironic because he has not touched grass lol
malleus's story will also be about him seeing the world. im also not too sure what he will do, but i think it would be like a journey to understand people and how to be a good ruler. his starting town will be in the wildlands
finally, yuu's story will probably be similar to temenos's or maybe it'll be more like ophilia's in that its a pilgrimage. maybe going around and teaching about the sacred flame? like a traveling cleric or something. she could encounter people from the moonshade order which would be the beginning of her journey. her starting town is, of course, in the crestlands
and the big question with probably the most obvious answer: who's the protagonist? it's yuu, of course. and the order in which she finds her fellow travelers will be the same order you encounter each dorm in twisted wonderland. so we start off with riddle, then leona, then azul, and so on and so forth.

Hello and welcome to my Ted Talk where I ramble about how Solistia is Orsterra but further along.
Spoilers ahead.
Now I know, I know, technically it's another world, but lemme ramble bout this theory.
We all know bout Pangea, the super-continent that existed during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras, the one continent that then, over many many many years then broke up into the continents we know today due to Continental Drift. How does that apply to this theory?
We know Orsterra is set very early on. We have ships, trading merchants, all that jazz, and the narration for Alfyn's story says that the age of medicine is in it's infancy. So this gives us a good idea on the current technology, namely none.
And then we have Solistia, which is clearly further along in development. They're entering the Steam Age, the steam train is starting to take shape, New Delsta is starting to take the shape of New York, the Inventor is making machines, and Science and Medicine seem to be progressing further.
Solistia is leaps ahead of Orsterra in terms of technology. And then we have this guy.
Tumblr media
He's theorizing that Solistia may have been one whole continent in the past. Continental Drift Theory. There's even a map that looks a lot like Orsterra in the Guard Outpost in Conning Creek
Tumblr media
And then we have the geography of the continents.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Side by side of Sunlands, Riverlands, Cliffland and Hineouma, Leaflands, Wildlands]
These three regions are right next to each other, and are in the same orientation as their counterparts, though Solistia stretches up higher, while Orsterra is kept to the South West.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Side by side of the Frostlands and Winterlands]
Same with both frosty areas. The only regions that don't match up are the Woodlands, Flatlands, Coastlands, and Highlands for Orsterra; The Crestlands, Brightlands, Harborlands, and Toto'haha for Solistia.
But here's the thing. Geography can change overtime. The Flatlands somewhat match The Brightlands, the Coastlands could have become the smattering of Islands once you get past the whirlpool. The Highlands could have broken off and drifted further, much like the Woodlands.
The Gate of Finis, is roughly in the same place in both worlds. Off (roughly) South East in a hard to reach place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So that's what Geographical evidence I have. Let's get a bit more... Theological about it.
Eight of the Gods are still the same; Aelfric, Alephan, Dohter, Sealtigce, Brand, Draefendi, Aeber, Bifelgan. But we're missing four others.
Dreisang the Archmagus, Winnehild the Warbringer , Steorra the Starseer, and Balogar the Runeblade .
I think, they're lost Gods. Gods who's worship has faded into mystery with barely anything to show for it. In Orsterra, already their arts are thought to be lost unless you find them, and challenge them for it, but they're still known. They're still called The Twelve.
In Solistia, they're lost lost. You can't even find their shrines or any historical evidence, if they even existed at this point.
But you can find their teachings still.
The Armsmasters wielded all 6 weapons and have innovated on the old skills Winnehild would've taught. Winnehild's War Cry became Sixfold Strike, and the Armsmasters developed new techniques to compensate for the lost ones. Notably, there is no divine skill for them, possibly because with Winnehild gone, they have only themselves and her old weapons to rely on.
The Arcanist uses sigils and runes in order to cast their abilities. Transfer Rune became Diffusion. So that's one half of Balogar's teachings.
The Conjurer has the other half. This being isn't mentioned at all in Solistia (As far as I've found). EDIT: Finally read all the Mercantile Manuscript. She's mentioned in the history of Hineouma, but no where else. You only find her in Ku after ascending a tower full of hard fights. When she gives you the class, she gives you at least 4 of the 'Rune' Elements (Because apparently it is anathema to give us more Light and Dark elements. Arcanist Tier 3 spell isn't Tenebrae Operiere, but its something.)
Dreisang's spells are not lost entirely. You can use Alephan's wisdom to at least reclaim 4 of them: Ignis Ardere, Glacis Claudere, Tonitrus Canere, and Lux Congerere.
Steorra is the last one unaccounted for. I haven't seen much, if anything at all, that resembles her abilities, other than possibly in the Conjurer class. I didn't really use that one for more than just elemental trails.
And then we have the Dark Gods. Vide and Galdera.
They are very different gods. One of them is Shadow/Void and Chaos, the other is Life and Death. You can fight them both. However...
Who's to say that conflict with Vide didn't split the continent in two? It was a hard fight for Aelfric on his own, and Vidania is smack in the middle of the sea. Who's to say all that divine power being thrown around didn't crack and split apart the continent into several pieces, eventually drifting apart, though both halves of this one stayed relatively close by each other.
The night left Orsterra in pieces.
And when the dawn rose, it was called Solistia instead.

This "train" thing was... Strange. Elena hated loud sounds, and now she sat in a large machine that was one consistently loud volume. She looked to her papa, but he didn't seem to mind. He said they had an important person to meet.
"Ah, Harvey," a woman smiled.
Elena looked her up and down. She had cyan hair, a smile that scared her and strangest of all, she couldn't recognize this woman despite her clear familiarity with her papa.
"Mindt, good to see you," he said, and gestured to the seat facing his, "Elena, why don't you go explore the train? I hear one car has picture books."
"Okay! Bye papa!" she said, not glancing back as she left.
She didn't like picture books all that much but figured it was a boring adult conversation if she couldn't be there.
She made her way to the end of the car, but hesitated before she opened the door. The space between each car had no roof or walls and hardly even a floor. She feared she might fall onto the tracks.
But she stood on her toes and peered out the window. The little platform connecting the carts had a railing, and admittedly, the view outside looked awesome.
She opened the door and the howling wind blew her hair in all directions. Slipping through the door, she shut it again and held on tight to the rail.
This was Elena's first time in the Harborlands (She knew the language though, her mother was from there and taught it to her as a child, or so her papa said) and the landscape was truly a sight to behold. Rolling hills covered in lush green trees, rivers and lakes with crystal blue water, and gods, the sea.
She had seen it before on the boat trip across the Solistian sea, but it was a sight one never tired over. How it sparkled and glimmered in the evening sun and that beautiful sound of waves crashing against the golden coast. Though the wind made her so cold she shivered, she could stay there forever.
But a hand pulled her inside.
"Don't stand out there for so long, it's against the rules," a woman said.
She shut the door and looked down at the young girl with an unfriendly eagle's eyes.
"S-sorry, I didn't know that!" Elena squeaked.
"Throné, don't ya go scarin' that kid!" a yellow clad man said.
The woman rolled her eyes before muttering an obscenity Harvey had told her never to say under her breath.
"Where are your parents?" Throné asked.
"My papa's in the other car talking to a weird lady and said I can't listen," Elena replied.
"And your mother?"
"She's dead."
Elena knew almost nothing of emotions, but she could tell the look on Throné's face certainly wasn't one of amusement or even joy.
"Sorry, kid," she muttered.
"You said standing on that platform is against the rules. Are you a train conductor?" Elena asked.
"No, but my friend, Partitio, is," Throné said, and gestured to nothing in particular.
She groaned when she realized he had left.
"Come on, I can show you the engine room," she said.
Elena followed her as the went down the length of the train. One car was particularly packed. Apparently, it had a famous singer who everyone wanted to hear. Her singing was loud and sounded like that weird opera stuff Harvey liked. He had brought her to one and she hated every second of it, much preferring the lone violin of a priest one town over from Montwise.
Several seconds passed before Throné realized she had lost Elena.
"Sorry, I don't like sounds like that," she said when she was found.
"It's fine, I get it," Throné said.
She knelt in a corner so that Elena could climb on her back. Atop Throné's shoulders, she realized how tall the woman actually was. She nearly hit her head on the top of the door frames!
At the final car, Throné lowered Elena from her back and looked through the window into the engine car.
"There's only two people in there, so it shouldn't be cramped," she smiled.
She took Elena's hand and went through the final set of doors.
"Heya Throné!" the man with the yellow jacket smiled.
The other man stared intensely out of the window and simply muttered a "Hi" at the sound of Throné entering.
"This kid likes trains, she was asking about how it works," she smiled, gently ushering Elena forwards.
"Really now?" Partitio smiled, "I should have a manual in 'ere somewhere!"
He rummaged through the only cupboard in the room but came up with nothing. An arrow fell out and clattered to the floor. There seemed to be just about everything in that cupboard!
"I've got it here," the other man said.
When he turned to hand it to Partitio, he froze at the sight of Elena. He didn't look particularly strange to her. His hair was long and unkempt but he had a friendly looking beard paired with somewhat silly circle glasses and fairly normal clothes.
He, on the other hand, looked as though he thought she was the strangest creature alive.
"What's her name?" he asked Throné, not her.
"Elena, why do you-" and whatever the man had thought when he saw her seemed to dawn on Throné too.
"You know, Partitio, I think there was a screw loose on one of those door frames. Why don't we go fix that, and Osvald can tell Elena about how trains?" she suggested.
"That's no good. I'll get the tool kit," Partitio replied.
He didn't seem to have noticed what Throné did for he spent at least another minute looking for his screwdrivers before Throné finally dragged him away.
She slammed the door shut, and a silence fell over the girl and her papa and train conductor. Well, a relative silence. The engine roared hardly a meter away from them. Osvald didn't seem to know where to start, for he spent at least a minute thinking before Elena finally asked, "Why is the engine so loud?"
His gaze lingered on her some moments longer before flipping through his manual. Stopping at a page near the middle, he showed her a diagram of the engine.
"By burning coal in this part here, water in this tank boils. When it turns to steam, it pushes this piston here," he explained but trailed off.
"What?" Elena asked.
"Sorry, I just feel like I know you from somewhere," he muttered.
"I know, it's so weird. I feel like I've met you before. It's just on the tip of my tongue but I can't figure out where I've met anyone like you," she laughed.
Osvald smiled watching her laugh. He went on explaining how the engine worked and would glance at her to see the amazing smile on her face as she eagerly listened to every word he said.
This lovely and oddly familiar time was cut short though. Throné reentered the room with worry plastered so clearly on her face, even Elena saw it.
"What's wrong?" Osvald asked.
"Harvey's here. He's looking for Elena, he says he's her dad," she muttered.
"He... Did? Makes sense, I suppose."
Osvald turned to Elena and took her hand.
"It's gonna be okay, we'll get you away from him," he said.
But Elena calmly removed her hand from his.
"Why?" she questioned.
"He- he's not your real dad. He hurts you, doesn't he?" he said.
"I guess so, but he says it's for his experiments, so I don't really mind," she said nonchalantly, "Bye Mr. Osvald! Bye miss Throné!"
With a smile, she began the short walk back down the train to where her papa sat. She hurried though, didn't want him to worry. Little did she know, a certain scholar and thief followed close behind.
elena getting piggyback rides and looking out into the ocean… vitally important. enrichment, even.
also train conductor osvald!!!! good for him!!!! BUT LESS GOOD IS TH.
Tumblr media
THE EVERYTHING ELSE. OSVALD BEING SO HAPPY WHEN ELENA SMILES AND. AND ELENA NOT REALIZING WHY BARVRY USING HER FOR EXPERIMENTS IS BAD…..

okay so I was looking at Castti’s portait for the upteenth time, and noticed something I didn’t notice before.
Tumblr media
So her boot is splashing in water. My first thought was “oh, it’s in the harborlands. It’s kind of obvious.” But then I started thinking and looking. Cuz that shipwreck is FAR away and if she was still carrying water from the ship then she’d probably be DRENCHED. Or her dress would be a little darker.
but then I zoomed out.
Tumblr media
It’s fucking raining. The things I thought were sun streaks are streaks of rain. They really put these details in there just to fuck with me

XXII ███ IWATODAI WAS HUGE. IN SUCH a large city one can easily get lost & swept up in all there is to see & do. shrines, stores, food---- harborland ! so to say she was used to seeing people from out of town or even foreign tourists was an understatement. easy to spot when people weren't from her hometown, just like this girl with the most beautiful auburn hair she's ever seen. crimson eyes look upward as if she could view her own locks, a far more muted color in comparison. deciding this was enough to stroll over & take a peek at what the stranger was looking at: ice cream ! a display menu on the window of a small shop. lucky☆ ! friendship is always made over sweet. " ah !" a quick point to one that was just covered in chocolate & marshmallows, " this one is suuuuuuuper delicious ! you should try it ! this place gives samples & they have the cutest little sitting area thats totally perf for takin' some selfies !" / @maregiis SC

Word count: 1034 slutty slutty words
Frostlands
Alpine Italy
Based on the architecture and etymology of certain names (primarily Lianna and Josef) then I think the Frostlands are Alpine Italy. It has a lot of medieval Italian traits, with a Catholic cathedral.
Flatlands
Germany and England
The architecture seems a bit more German than English to me, the names are a bit mixed though. Cyrus does have Greek origins, but it is amongst several Greek names popular in England so I am counting it as English. Primrose is also very much English, but Yvon and Lucia are German. Therese and Mary are sort of in the middle. Based purely on Whispermill, then I’d say Flatlands is 65% German and 35% English because England does not have very much agriculture and imports a lot of it from Denmark.
Coastlands
Italy
Architecture is stereotypical vaguely medieval Europe but the Coastlands is definitely Mediterranean because of the climate and etymology of certain names. The rocky beaches are fairly normal in more mountainous areas of Italy.
Highlands
Germany and British Isles
Olberic Eisenberg is the most German name you could ever imagine, then there’s even Erhardt, Alfred, Gustav and Werner, like the last name Eisenberg wasn’t enough. Then there’s also Hornburg, you know, burg, a common germanic suffix meaning castle or to protect. Architecture is, again, sort of vaguely medieval but the area looks a bit too sad to be Germany. There’s a bit of the horrors of British mountains in the Highlands, but not a lot.
Sunlands
Middle East
This is the Middle East. There are names like Yusufa, Ali and Maruf, the architecture is very violently Arabic and almost every female npc sprite is veiling in some way. I do not know enough about the Middle East to pinpoint the exact country unfortunately.
Riverlands
France by the river Rhine.
I don’t even want to write an explanation because I don’t know what to add.
Cliftlands
California (?)
This one, I don’t know. Therion is a Greek name, Cordelia is Latin and Heathcote and Ravus are old English. That would be all fine and dandy but the region is a dry desert cliff. I’m saying western US? I genuinely have no clue.
Woodlands
Germany or Sweden
The two places it could be are either Germany or Sweden. Germany famously has the black forest and wolves (no leopards or tigers but let’s not get into that because both are one time things) so it’s a good bet, but H’aanit is a Hebrew name.
Reason for Sweden: during ww2, almost all danish Jews fled to Sweden and never came back to Sweden has a relatively large Jewish population, which would explain H’aanit having a Hebrew name while Z’aanta (I WISH I could figure out where his name is from, I’m guessing Hebrew too because of the apostrophe) gets a wolf with an umlaut A in the name. Sweden is also really cold and the Woodlands are next to the Frostlands so theres another reason why it might be more Swedish than German. Of course, Linde is a German name, but there is a large German speaking population in Sweden because of the education system and also because Swedish is not very widespread so. Ough idk I have many thoughts about the possibility of H’aanit being Scandinavian.
Toto’haha
Hawa’aii next question
One has to wonder why there is a lion in Hawa’aii. I have a long rant about racism that I could insert here but I won't. Colonialism plays a large role in Ochette’s story, Toto’Haha is an island region and it also has many apostrophes and glottal stops, like ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi.
Harborlands
Mediterranean, mostly Italy
Completely ignoring Roque island for obvious reasons, look at Canalbrine then look at pictures of Venice Italy. Conning Creek looks like a seaside Italian town, not to mention that there are few names more Latin than Rita.
Brightlands
19th century France
Architecture seems like a Latin European Victorian era city but the NPCs dress in Edwardian era wear. As much as it kind of really bothers me then I’m gonna ignore it because I am figuring out place, not time. Sebastian, Marietta and Pirro are Latin names, yadda yadda, square enix loves Italy and France, nothing new here.
Winterlands
Russia
Clothing is very obviously Russian. I do not remember the architecture and I do not care to look it up but the sanctum knight hq has a massive stained glass window that might imply Catholicism. The Russians, as far as I know, are not Catholics but the window would definitely imply something more Catholic than the horrendous protestant churches full of nothing but wasted potential and naked walls. I’m getting off track. Warden Davids could have a Russian accent and no one would bat an eye.
Wildlands
California
Gold rush was in California.
Leaflands
Switzerland
The clothes a lot of npcs wear (Pala included) is classic Germanic traditional wear. There’s a teensy bit of German and Italian thrown in for good measure so I’m doing a compromise and saying Switzerland. Timberain looks very Germanic and has a monarchy which you don’t get in most Latin countries but you do get in Scandinavia. Anyway I personally am not a fan of the Swiss because they’re stupid and pretentious but Agnea octopath is an exception. Also there’s a bit of southern US in there because Agnea talks weird. So there’s that. She’s my beloved little Swiss-American-Brazilian silly girl <3
Crestlands
I would rather you put me through scaphism and call me slurs than have to figure out exactly what the Crestlands are.
Name etymology: Greek, French and Norwegian
Architecture: German, Italian, Spanish and English because square enix hates me
Terrain: honestly? America. No place in Europe is orangey red in the fall for that long
Hinoeuma
You know in Jojo part 3 where 5 guys travel from Japan to Egypt? They brought the entire country with them and that’s how you get Hinoeuma.
Conclusion? I hate square enix.
The non white octopath regions are Hinoeuma and Toto'Haha but one could argue that the Highlands has poc just cause. They're just there. No one cares. Look up the Sami people, I'd say it's a bit like that probably. Idk about Therion, he's Schrödinger's poc.
square enix find inspiration in non-european countries challenge (difficulty: impossible)
also, if i might, seeing that crazy melting pot of cultures that the crestlands are made up of, and the specific point you made about it remaining orangey red for so long, i'd like to claim it for canada. there are definitely some regions of ontario, quebec, and manitoba (see: the canadian shield. it's a perfect fit geographically) that fit the bill
