married man | j. halstead
request:Can you do a Jay Halstead x Reader. They are both married and have a child together. The child just started pre-k or kindergarten and since the reader is heavily pregnant Jay has been dropping off and picking up their kid. And maybe like the single moms are flirting with Jay since they think he might be a single dad but they get surprised when the reader picks the kid one day after giving birth.
pairing: established (married) fem!reader x jay halstead
word count: 1.75k
warnings: none??
a/n: dad!jay dad!jay dad!jay !!!!! they have a little boy (his name is dylan) and a newborn girlie (what should her name be)
------
Grumbling as the alarm went off, you blindly reached over and whacked Jay on the chest. “Why’s it have to be so loud?”
Jay chuckled, silencing his phone’s alarm. “It’s not even that loud, babe.”
You glared at him through narrow eyes. “If I wasn’t about to pop right now I’d give you a piece of my mind.”
Letting out a hearty laugh, Jay got out of bed and folded his portion of the comforter back up, trapping the heat for you. “Only a few more weeks, babe. Then you’ll be able to move without having to pee every two seconds.”
You slowly followed Jay, yawning and rubbing the nine-month bump as you headed into the kitchen to package your son’s lunch.
He had recently started kindergarten, and loved telling you and Jay about all his escapades with his classmates as he learned different things.
“I could’ve done that, you didn’t have to get up.” Jay said, popping a capsule into the coffee machine and starting it.
Shrugging, you zipped the lunchbox closed and set it next to the matching blue backpack, one hand going to rub at the sore spot on your back. “I knew I wasn’t going to be able to fall back to sleep.”
Jay noticed, and his hands slowly made their way to the exact spot that bothered you in your first pregnancy. “Who do you thinks going to ask me out today, hm?”
Laughing softly, you clicked your tongue at Jay. “You really enjoy that, don’t you? Miss getting hit on?”
Jay shook his head. “Don’t miss it one bit. Just enjoy seeing those soccer moms think their whispers are quiet.”
A few weeks ago Jay had mentioned that some of the moms at drop-off had been talking about Jay, commenting on his lack of wedding band and no significant other ever at drop off or pick up.
“Momma, when will you go to school with me?” Dylan asked, your son finally making his appearance in his pajamas.
“Soon, little bug. Once Little Sister is here, I’ll drop you off with Daddy some days.”
Dylan frowned. “Can Sissy come now?”
You huffed, wanting nothing more than to deliver the weight that seemed to be constantly on your bladder. “I wish, but I think she needs a few more weeks.”
Jay smiled into his coffee cup, phone chiming with a text from Hailey. “Come on, Dyl. Let’s get dressed so you can show your friends your new shoes.”
Dylan beamed at the thought, and followed Jay back to his room, leaving you alone in the warm kitchen. The aroma of coffee lingered as you found a chair to rest in, hand absently tracing circles over your distended belly.
A sigh of contentment escaped you; this was your world, and despite the groggy mornings and occasional aggravations - like trying to convince Dylan to brush his teeth properly - you wouldn’t change it for anything else. That was the beauty of family - it wasn’t always perfect, but it was yours. And that made all the imperfections precious in their own odd way.
The sound of Jay's voice pulled you from your thoughts as he asked Dylan to choose between two shirts. You smiled, knowing how seriously your little boy took these morning decisions. Sipping on some water and slowly standing up, you decided to start breakfast.
The scent of eggs and bacon soon filled the room, joining the still lingering coffee aroma. Dylan would be excited; he loved his simple morning breakfasts. As you were flipping an egg, Jay returned with Dylan in tow. Their matching grins caught your eye.
“What are you two up to?” You questioned playfully, adjusting your hold on your bump.
“Nothing,” they both chimed in unison, their grins growing even wider.
“Okay,” you drew out the first syllable, grabbing a plate and moving the eggs for Dylan to eat, blowing on them as you cut them into pieces.
“Eat, then Daddy will bring you to school.” You smiled, cracking a few more eggs and grabbing a tortilla and the toppings you knew Jay liked, quickly making a breakfast wrap for him.
Wrapping it in foil, you smiled to yourself as you heard Jay helping Dylan put on his sneakers.
“Ok, we gotta go, Little Man! Go give Momma a kiss.”
Dylan skipped over to you, wrapping his little arms around your legs, promising you he’d come home with a drawing to put in the nursery.
Thanking him, you smiled at Jay as he grabbed the wrap and his badge, stopping to press a kiss to your forehead. “Take it easy today, babe.”
“I will. Go break hearts and catch perps, Jay.”
——
Jay hid his eye roll as he followed Dylan to the drop off location, ignoring the looks from the few single mothers nearby.
“I mean, who in their right mind wouldn’t grab that ass? He’s such a good dad, too.”
Jay overheard one of the mothers and shook his head, stifling a laugh. He still found it amusing and somewhat flattering to know that he was the topic of their little gossip circle. But he also knew firmly where his heart lay - at home with you and Dylan, and soon, your new little girl.
As Dylan scampered off towards his classroom, he turned to Jay with a big grin. "Daddy, do you think I can tell Mrs. Johnson about Sissy coming soon?"
Jay bent down to his level, ruffling his hair affectionately. "Of course, buddy. I'm sure she will be thrilled to hear it."
At that moment, a pair of giggling women walked by, shooting him suggestive glances over their shoulders. He merely smiled politely before turning away.
Arriving back at the car, Jay pulled out his phone and saw a text from you: Feeling better now that the house is empty. How did drop off go?
He quickly typed back: Smooth as always. He's telling all his teachers about his soon-to-be little sister.
Satisfied, he started the vehicle and headed towards the precinct. His phone chimed again with your response: That's my boy! Take care at work, Jay.
He chuckled as he imagined you grinning at your phone, feet kicked up on the coffee table even though you often chided him for doing the same thing.
——
The routine didn’t shift for the next few weeks, but the gossiping mothers were surprised when Dylan was dropped off by Will one day, Jay at the hospital where you were currently resting with the newest addition to the family.
“Uncle Will, can we see Momma and Sissy after school?” Dylan asked, tugging on his uncle’s hand.
"Of course, buddy," Will replied with a soft smile, watching as Dylan's face lit up with joy. "I bet they can't wait to see you."
Once Dylan scampered off towards his classroom, Will indulged in a moment of silence. He was used to the emergency room's relentless noise and bustle, so the unfamiliar hush of the school yard in the early morning was a welcome respite. A group of mothers were huddled together, shooting glances his way. Perhaps he was becoming part of their gossip routine now too - he silently hoped otherwise.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Jay could barely tear his gaze away from you sleeping peacefully, the tiny bundle in his arms a testament to your strength and love. His heart swelled in his chest at the sight; you looked more beautiful than ever, your face radiating an exhausted but blissful glow as your daughter, their daughter, clung onto his finger with her small hand.
Just then, she stirred awake and let out a soft whimper which turned into a loud wail. He quickly got up and started to gently rock her, not wanting her cries to disturb your much-needed rest.
“Hey there, little princess,” he cooed softly as he bounced her gently in his arms. “Let’s not wake Mommy up now.”
After a few minutes of gentle rocking and hushed lullabies - Jay trying his best to remember the ones you sung to Dylan when he was an infant, the baby quieted down, blue eyes peering up at her father.
“Hi, munchkin. You already have half of Chicago’s first responders wrapped around your finger.” He whispered, soft smile at his lips as he thought back to the replies from his team when he sent the photo of the baby in the group chat.
"The other half is itching to meet you. Just wait until Uncle Will gets a hold of you. You're going to be spoiled rotten." He laughed softly, mindlessly tracing a finger over his daughter's tiny forehead.
His phone buzzed where he had left it on the bedside table. It was a message from Will letting him know that Dylan had been dropped off at school and asking if they could come by after school to see the baby.
Jay's heart swelled, even more, knowing his son was equally excited about his little sister's arrival. Jay quickly typed a response, assuring Will they would be more than happy to have visitors later in the day.
——
The day passed in a flurry of nurses checking vitals and bringing meals, phone calls from family and friends, and quiet moments spent marveling over their newest addition. Dylan was bursting with energy when Will brought him by after school, his wide eyes taking in everything with an infectious excitement that had everyone in the room smiling.
"Momma, Sissy is really small!" Dylan whispered in awe as he approached the bed, carefully peering over the edge of the bassinet.
You chuckled at his innocent observation as Jay helped him climb up onto the bed to get a better look. "Yes, she is," you agreed with a fond smile. "You were that small, too, Little Man!”
Dylan looked at you with wide eyes, shaking his head. “Nuh-uh!”
“Mhmm!” You replied, fixing his shirt as he squirmed to get another look at his sister.
“When can you and Sissy come to school?” He asked, looking at you.
Jay laughed quietly, and you looked at your husband. “Soon, Dyl.”
——
Two weeks later, you consoled the crying baby as Jay helped Dylan put his backpack on. “Can Sissy come meet Mrs. Johnson?”
Shaking your head, you carefully strapped the little girl into her carrier, softly rubbing her cheek. “Not yet. Maybe during the spring concert, but she’s still too little.”
Jay stood up and grabbed his keys. “She can help Momma and Daddy drop you off, though. That sound good?”
Dylan’s face lit up at the thought. “Yeah! Everyone will get to see her!” He jumped excitedly before Jay guided him out the door.
Satisfied with your successful early morning, you carried the baby carrier to the car and buckled it in securely at the back seat. Moving around was still a little tough for you but you were slowly getting the hang of things. You climbed into the passenger side, glancing back at Dylan who was squirming in his seat with anticipation.
The drive to the school was filled with Dylan's non-stop chatter about what he was going to show his little sister. Jay had a soft smile on his face as he listened to his son, occasionally glancing at you in admiration and shared joy.
Once they arrived in front of the school, Dylan unbuckled himself and carefully opened your car door for you. “Be careful, Momma!” He cautioned, making Jay chuckle as he followed behind with his son’s backpack.
You smiled, letting Jay go ahead with Dylan so he wasn’t late, working to unstrap your daughter’s carrier so Dylan could see her one last time before he was in school.
“Jay, haven’t seen you the last few days. Is everything okay?” One of the mothers who had tried to hit on Jay asked, faux worry on her face.
Jay wore a smile as he turned to the woman, Dylan's hand tucked safely in his own as they made their way toward the school entrance. "Yeah, everything’s great, actually. My wife just gave birth to our second child," he responded casually, nodding his head towards the car where you were carefully lifting the baby carrier.
The woman blinked in surprise before offering a tight-lipped smile, "Oh, I didn’t know... congratulations."
"Thanks," Jay replied with a nod before turning his attention back to Dylan whose bundle of excitement was barely contained. As Jay opened the door for him to enter he looked into the bright eyes of his son and smiled reassuringly, "You ready?"
Dylan nodded eagerly, already tugging on his father's hand to drag him inside. Jay followed docilely, striding up the hallway towards Dylan's classroom.
Meanwhile, you were still out by the car, struggling slightly with the baby carrier that seemed to weigh even more than your now two-week-old daughter. A few mothers noticed and stepped forward to help you, their faces lighting up at the sight of the infant bundled up against the cold.
"Oh she's absolutely adorable!" One woman cooed, and you recognized her from when Jay was telling you how one of them started to wear low-cut tops after he started doing drop off duty.
You walked with them to the doors, smile brightening when you saw Jay and Dylan at the door, the young boy wanting to say goodbye to his sister.
“Bye, Sissy! Bye, Momma!” Dylan smiled, giving his sister a kiss and hugging your legs, unaware that his farewells caused the mothers who had walked with you to gasp lightly.
Jay’s smile widened at Dylan's display of affection, ruffling his son's hair gently, "Alright, champ. We’ll pick you up later. Have a great day at school."
Dylan nodded eagerly before disappearing into the bustling school building with his teacher. The remaining mothers turned to you, their surprised expressions replaced by warm, slender smiles as they admired your little girl.
Back in the car, you laughed as Jay started the ignition. “Think I felt the daggers from some of the moms when they found out you’re married.”
Jay snorted, turning back to the road to your house. “Well, that or when they found out we have great sex. Either way, watch your back, babe.”
You gawked at Jay’s remark, hitting him in the chest. “Jay! Your daughter is listening!”
“Oh, she’ll hear worse when Ruz babysits her." ------ a/n: send requests if you wanna!!

pairing: justin bieber x sza
summary: in which two superstars announce their relationship to the world
author's note: this music video did something to me, i needed to do this. so Hailey is not the picture, no Jelena (the relationship is DONE), SZA is not a pathological liar here, just vibes. (no Hailey slander or Hailey vs Selena debate allowed. Again, just vibes)

[📍64th Annual Grammy Awards]
“And the Grammy goes to…” Avril Lavigne spoke to the microphone before opening the envelope and reading the names
“Kiss Me More, Doja Cat featuring SZA”
The beautiful black woman walked up to the stage walking as slowly as possible since Doja had taken a toilet break at the wrong time. The both of them gave a little speech before going back to sit down.
The ceremony ended and all the celebrities stood up, going to a private space to leave. As she left the room, her eyes came in contact with a certain someone’s eyes. As if they had had a conversation through their irises, he left the room, Solana following him discreetly to a dark hallway.
“What are we doing he-” She was cut off by some hands wrapping around her waist.
“J, someone could see us” Solana informed constantly looking around to see if anyone was there.
“But they’re not here right now”
His tattooed hand grabbed her jaw, bringing their faces closer until their lips collided. Her arms surrounded his neck as their heads tilted, deepening their kiss. Minutes into them making out, she softly pulled him away, laughing at his frustration.
“Wait at least until we’re back to the hotel” Solana completely got away from his grip. “Can’t risk seeing us on tomorrow’s front pages”
“Imagine: SZA and Justin Bieber caught doing it at the Grammys”
Justin and Solana had met at a celebrity birthday party years ago. They grew friends as they healed from past relationships, helping one another. It all changed when Justin invited her for a date at his house since they didn’t want to be seen in public. She gladly accepted, leading to them spending the night talking, a glass of alcohol in their hands. Months after, they officialized their relationship, choosing to keep it private. To the public, Solana was SZA, this voluptuous woman, talented singer and Justin, the world’s favorite it boy.
“Yeah, can’t let this happen”
“I have to congratulate you on your Grammy though” He sent her a smirk as she avoided eye contact.
“Guess you’ll have to wait, babe”
Solana walked off going back to her team and preparing to leave.

[📍Hotel]
Solana just got back from the after-party. She entered her hotel room and immediately kicked her heels off. She fell flat on her bed before hearing the door open. A smile appeared, already knowing who it was.
Justin lay down on the bed as Solana, got on top of him, straddling him.
He didn’t waste any time to kiss her, ready to spend the night close to her.
[📍Studio]
Solana sat in her studio listening to different instrumentals. None of them inspired her anything, resulting in her scrolling on Instagram, barely concentrating on her music. A notification popped, which drew her attention.
JB
I just had a dream about u
Sol
And what happened?
JB
can’t text you that 😏
Solana liked his text before finally noticing the beat that was playing.
“Hey, put that on repeat, I like that one” She spoke to her engineer as he did so. She took her notepad and a pen to write lyrics.
I can’t lose when I’m with you

Jay Halstead Materlist
A/N: Hey beautiful people! Here is an original imagine. I hope everyone is staying safe and you guys enjoy.
Don't be afraid to leave your comment!
--------
You almost had a heart attack when you got the call from your boyfriends brother, that Jay “dumbass” Halstead had gotten shot, again. Couldn’t he be more careless, always putting everyone’s safety before his, and quite frankly you wanted to punch him in his beautiful face, so now on your way to Med you were thinking of all the ways you could get away with murder.
“You called Y/N?” Jay exclaimed to his brother looking at him like if he had grown two heads. “Yeah... I did. She deserves to know Jay” Will looked at his brother with an unamused expression.
“What? You scared?” Will bit back a smile that was fighting to surface in his face at the worried look on Jay’s face. Jay scoffed “Me scared -of Y/N... puff no- she doesn’t make me nervous or scared. Okay? I’m the one who wears the pants in the relationship” Jay said trying to convinced his brother or himself -because, yeah, he didn’t wear the pants in the relationship you did-.
Just when Will was about to torture his brother a little more, they heard your voice from the other side of the ED, “WHERE IS HE?” And just like that Jay was proved a liar, as Will noticed how his heart monitor when trough the roof.
“I hope you enjoyed your time with me, cause I’m pretty sure I’ll get murder in my sleep tonight…” “If not now” Will responded laughing at the expense of his brothers fear.
If there was something that could scare Jay was number one -hospitals- and two -you-, and now he was had both. Yes, he wasn’t scared of getting shot or tortured because you- you were very, very scary when angry. Which made everyone you knew joke about how a 5’10 former ranger and detective of one of the most feared units in Chicago, could be scared of a 5’3 law receptionist. And it was about to be proven again when Jay heard Maggie giving you his room number and your high heels clicking in his direction. Just then the door opened,
“What. The. Actual. Fuck Jay Grayson Halstead!” “fuck…” he muttered under his breath, looking at his lap trying to not show you he was worried or in pain.
“Did she really say…” “Shut up, shh, shut up” Jay cut his brother who was trying so hard not to laugh at his brother, because only Will knew Jay’s second name -he didn’t like it, you thought it was cute-.
“Will” “Y/N” “There’s the door” you said pointing to the door of Jay’s treatment room, to which Will looked at Jay wide eyes before moving towards the door, while Jay shook his head wide eyes pleading to Will not to leave him alone.
You were now looking at him, furious expression, arms crossed in your chest, raised eyebrow waiting for him to say something,
“Babe…I love you; did I tell you how beautiful you look today?” “Don’t- don’t even think about trying to smooth talk me…You got shot, AGAIN?!” you were pretty sure that the city could hear you,
“Honey, I’m okay, I promise. Its just a graze nothing major” “Just a graze?” he nodded giving you a small weary smile.
“Where is it?” you asked with a sweet voice and worried expression, to which Jay pointed to his right shoulder. You got close to his side not breaking eye contact, before you smack the injury,
“OWW, fuck, babe why did you do that?” he said groaning while you glared at him. “I told you if you got shot again, I would hit you” “But why did it had to be on the arm, babe?” he whined,
“Because maybe the pain will help you consider your decisions next time, huh, don’t you think, cause I can hit you again…” “NO, no, no, I’ll remember I promise” he said catching your hand that this time was going on full speed. You took a deep breath,
“You scared the hell out of me” “I know, I’m sorry” you talked sweetly at each other while Jay kissed the back of your hand. You leaned in placing your hand on his cheek to look into his eyes, then you exchange a caring kiss to which he smile in,
“Hey just making sure he’s alive, it got quiet…so, I don’t have to resuscitate you, huh?” Will’s voice made you pull back making you giggle, and Jay make a mocking face towards his brother.
“You have to stop being wheeled in here man. Your gonna kill us one day” Will continued,
“Got to keep you on your toes somehow…” Jay smirk towards Will missing the -are you kidding me- look you send his way,
“Its like you wanna be punched again!” “N-no, no babe, oh shit Will!” Jay screamed jumping out of the hospital bed hiding behind his brother who just laughed at the both of you,
“Okay, lets settle down you two, Y/N, I promise next time I’ll let you hit him a couple of times. You know so that it gets on his thick skull” Will sassed, wiggling his eyebrows up and down, while you smirked.
“I love how my dear brother and the love of my life plot to abuse me. Its hilarious…” Jay said sarcastically before sitting back down, then the door opened again showing Hailey with a worried expression,
“Did she kill him yet?” she said smirking at Jay
“Ha, Ha laugh it up” Jay said rolling his eyes. “Almost did…” that made everyone laugh, you looked at Jay and he winked at you mouthing “I love you” to which you smiled and mouth “I love you too” back.

Headcanon of Halstead!sister!reader bring home her first bf?
More like a drabble at over 800 words, but here it is! If you have an idea for a headcanon, just send it to me and I might write it!
Jay and Will knew you were bringing your boyfriend, Luke, over for pictures before prom. You told them to be civil. You told them to not go into overprotective mode...but of course, they didn’t listen.
You walked out in your pink, poofy prom dress and with Hailey next to you (she had agreed over to help you get ready) and Will’s eyes went wide. “You said the dress was big, but I didn’t think it was that big.”
You twirled. “I feel like a princess.”
Jay walked into the room. “As you should. You look like one, too.”
You shared a look with Hailey when you saw what Jay was wearing. His blues.
“Jay, don’t intimidate the poor kid,” Hailey said.
“What? He needs to know I’m a cop.”
You groaned. “He knows you’re a cop and Will’s a doctor. Please don’t go all crazy. We’re just taking pictures here and then we’re going out for dinner. Please be--” The doorbell rang. “--normal.”
You walked over to the door and answered it.
“Hi,” you said as you pulled it open. Luke was wearing a suit with a white dress shirt and a dark pink tie hidden underneath it.
“Y/N…” he trailed off. “Wow, you look, wow. You look beautiful.”
You blushed. “Thank you. You look handsome.”
“Thanks, babe.” You heard one of your brothers clear their throat from behind you. “Um, this is for you.”
He opened the box with the pink corsage and slipped it on your wrist.
“Thank you. I think uh, we should get some pictures before my brothers decide at the last minute to not let me go.”
You allowed him inside to two stern brothers and one very happy and smiley Hailey.
“I wouldn’t let that happen,” Hailey said. “I’d make sure you’d go to prom one way or another.” She stuck her hand out for him to shake. “Hailey Upton, nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you as well, Ms. Upton.”
“Please call me Hailey. And, don’t be too intimidated by them. I promise they don’t bite,” she said, referring to Will and Jay.
Luke laughed nervously. “Nice to meet you, sir,” he said and stuck his hand out for Jay to shake and then did the same with Will.
“What are your intentions with our sister?” Will asked.
“Oh my God,” you muttered. “Will!”
“What? We need to know!”
“I’ll tell you,” you said quickly. “Get some dinner and go to the dance. Simple. Now can we please get these pictures?”
“But--”
“Jay,” Hailey began, “they have reservations. We don’t want to make them late for dinner.”
“Uh, fine,” he groaned.
You took the pictures--Hailey had to help you pin the boutonniere on Luke, so that helped the tension drop a bit--and then Jay started talking about hockey during this. Luke liked hockey, so having a civil conversation about it with your brothers, made him feel a lot more comfortable.
“Have her home by 11:00,” Jay said.
“The dance ends at 11:00,” you said.
“11:30,” Will said.
“Midnight.”
“11:45,” Jay said.
Hailey sighed. “Be home by 12:30, Y/N.”
“Thanks, Hailey. Bye guys.”
You said your goodbyes and Jay and Will watched as Luke opened the passenger side door for you and you got in.
“He held the door,” Will said.
“He passed part one.” Jay grabbed his coat.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Hailey asked.
“To spy on them at dinner. What does it look like I’m doing.”
“Jay, I swear to God…” Hailey sighed. “If you do this, you won’t be getting any for a month.”
Will laughed as Jay whined. “Hailey!”
“No buts. Stay here. He seems like a good guy and you know Y/N would call us if she’s in trouble.”
Will quickly grabbed his keys. “Well, I don’t have a girlfriend who will keep sex from me, so I’ll go watch her.”
“Will!” both Jay and Hailey yelled in unison.
But, he was already out the door.
“So, what do we do now?” Jay asked.
“Go change, then we get in my car and pull him over.”
“What?”
“You told me he’s always going at least five miles over the speed limit, so we are gonna pull him over to stop him from getting there. Now hurry up.”
Hailey told you all this when you got home a few minutes before 12:30. When your brothers saw your smiley face, they knew that you had a good time and that they could trust this kid. But, you were still so very thankful for Hailey Upton. Without her, who knew what would’ve happened if Jay or Will, or both of them, showed up at the restaurant and saw you holding hands across the table and him periodically leaning across the table to give you a kiss.

pairing: hailey upton x reader
summary: you arrive at a police gala all dressed up and your girlfriend hailey can't help her jealously when she notices everyone staring at you.
word count: 0.7k
warning fluff and sexual content if you squint.
request note: i posted recently about how i really wanted to write dom!hailey upton and here's another anon request response!
note: thank you so much for this one, i hope this is okay but it's pure fluff!
Tumblr media
you walked into the open room. your black dress was simple, sleek, and had a slit on one of your thighs. the heels matched your dress and your hair was straightened down your back.
kim had helped you with your eyeliner earlier, a sleek wing on both eyes. you had on some mascara that complimented your eyelashes and you finished up the look with red lipstick.
now hailey wasn't biased because you were her girlfriend, but she definitely wasn't the only one looking at you.
"uh oh." adam chuckled. jay hit his arm to shut up and kim smirked, amused by the whole interaction.
the two of you had gotten ready together after work, you were closer to her than hailey was. hailey knew you wanted a little bit of girl time and opted out of the quick girl evening.
the brunette took a separate car since you'd be going home in different directions and beat you by a few seconds due to traffic. she held a champagne of glass for you, while drinking her own.
you didn't notice what was going on, just admiring how hailey looked and walked up to her with a smile that reached your eyes. she couldn't believe how beautiful you were.
even if it was a long night at work and you put your hair in a messy bun, you made it look so effortlessly. you just happened to have natural beauty no matter what you looked like. "hey babe!" you greeted.
she glanced around once more and tensed at the few who were still looking. you saw immediately what was happening and put a reassuring hand around her back in comfort.
after a few moments, you let go, seeing her calming. hailey was usually the one holding you. predicting her next movement, she put her hand around your waist instead and leaned in, giving you a sweet kiss. "hey beautiful."
kim held out your glass and you grabbed it from her, taking a sip. "thank you." she nodded and turned to adam who was talking to her about getting together yet again.
"i bet fifty bucks tomorrow they walk in around the same time." jay smirked.
"you're totally on! i bet they walk in together." hailey giggled.
"i agree with hailey. they are oblivious when they're together." you smiled in glee.
jay rolled his eyes already knowing what'll happen. "if you guys win you get to split the bet cost!"
kevin walked up from behind, hearing the conversation and spoke up. "don't worry jay, if they win then i'll split it with you. but i think burgess will be to cautious to walk in with ruzek."
"hmm, that's true. guess we'll all see, won't we?" hailey replied.
you held your glass up to the three, as if to silently say game on and tipped it back, swallowing the rest.
you heard kevin questioning jay where voight went and he said something about talking to somebody from a different department but that was all you had heard.
hailey pulled you away to the bar and noticed yet again that people were looking at you. she rolled her eyes and ordered two drinks from the bartender. "what's wrong?" you questioned.
"everybody is looking at you. i don't blame them in the slightest but i mean, can't they see we're together?"
you leaned in, pushing a strand of curly hair behind her ear and whispered in her ear. "let's give them something to look at, hmm?"
she squeezed her thighs together, attracted to the rasp in your voice and nodded. you leaned in slowly, brushing your lips along hers and then she took control of the kiss.
hailey's hand went on your cheek and the other rested on your hip. her teeth clashed with yours, neither not willing to give up dominance yet but she squeezed your hip, catching you off guard.
you gasped into her mouth and she took the opportunity to slide her tongue in your mouth, furthering the kiss.
maybe it was a little much for a police gala but you didn't care. hailey tasted so good on your lips and when she pulled back, you licked them.
she fixed her hair and glanced down at your lips and groaned, wishing the two of you were alone. you looked around and a few turned their heads away. the two of you grinned and then looked towards the group of intelligence.
the group hadn't looked away though and adam put
one of his arms up in the air, cheering all silly-like. you giggled, turning to see hailey smiling and shaking her head.
you walked in the next morning, seeing adam and kim walk in side by side and looked at hailey, smirking. you could hear a sigh from across the room. jay.

May I have this dance
Pairing: Adam Ruzek X Reader
Summary: With the help of his friends Adam makes your anniversary a very memorable one.
Warnings: none
Tumblr media
It was yours and Adam’s 3 year anniversary and you knew he was planning something big. He had been nervous for weeks on end. He had insisted that you go round to Kim’s so that her and Hailey could help get you ready. So that’s where you were, sat in Kim’s living room. Kim was sat in front of you painting your nails and Hailey was behind you, styling your hair. You had told the two of them that you were perfectly capable of doing it yourself, but they refused to let you.
“Okay, so do the two of you know what Adam’s up to?” You questioned.
“Nope” Kim said.
At the same time Hailey said, “Not a clue.”
“You know for cops, the both of you are awful liars.” You huffed.
~
A little while later your hair, makeup and all that jazz was done. Kim had left the room and retuned with a box. She passed it to you with a smile. Opening the box, you saw the red scalloped fit and flare mini dress that you had been eyeing up in the shop window for the past couple of weeks.
“Adam gave us the money to go and get it for you.” Hailey said, gesturing to Kim and herself.
~
You walked out into Kim’s living room, your outfit for the night now fully complete. You paired the dress with a pair of black heels, gold hopped earrings and a black clutch bag. Giving a little twirl to show off, you noticed Kevin now in the room. Furrowing your brows at the sight of him, he was wearing a suit with a driver hat.
“You good Kev?” You asked, giving him a slight nod.
“Your carriage awaits, m’lady.” He said in a British accent, offering you his arm.
Laughing slightly, you took hold of his arm. Kevin let out outside to a black car, one of the ones you guys usually use for work. Opening the back door, he motioned for you to get in. Once in the car, you looked up to see someone sat in the drivers seat, dressed the same as Kevin.
“Sarge, is that you.” You asked, leaning forward slightly.
“You speak a word of this to no one.” He said, smiling at you slightly though the rear view mirror.
You mumbled a ‘yes sir’ as Kevin got in the passenger side.
~
You had reached your destination and was greeted by Kevin opening your door. Stepping out the car you saw a small area set up with a table and fairy lights hanging from surrounding trees, which surprisingly lit up the area very well. Kevin escorted you over to the decorated area, where Adam stood with his back to you. Letting go of Kevin’s arm, you looked up at him and mouthed ‘thank you’.
“This is beautiful Adam.” You said with a soft voice.
Adam immediately turned around at the sound of your voice. Walking towards you he smiled, taking in just how stunning you look. He gently placed his hands on your waist, your hands going to his arms. Adam leaned down, placing a chaste kiss on your lips.
“Happy anniversary babe. I wish I could take credit for all of this, but I did have some help.” He said with a slight laugh.
“Yeah, I’ve noticed.” You laughed back, as Adam led you to the table.
The both of you took at seat at the table and you couldn’t help but notice how fidgety Adam was. Before you got a chance to ask him what was bothering him, Antonio came over with two wine glasses and a bottle of wine. Antonio poured the wine and took a step back, smiling at the two of you.
“Your waiter will be out shortly with your food. Enjoy.” And with that he walked off.
“Is this why everyone has been so secretive for the past week?” You asked, taking a sip of your wine.
“Maybe.” Adam replied with a smirk.
The two of you made small talk for a few minutes before Jay came over with two plates of (Y/F/F). The both of you thanking him before he left the two of you to eat.
“You really did go all out.” You laughed, digging into your meal.
~
Once you had both finished eating, you sat and talked for while about everything and nothing. You noticed that the soft music that was playing in the background had gotten slightly louder. Adam got up out of his seat and walked round to you.
“May I have this dance?” He asked, holding his hand out for you.
Giggling, you took hold of his hand. Guiding you away from the table Adam placed his arms around your waist, pulling you close to him. Your hands found themselves clasped together around the back of his neck. The two of you swayed to the music silently, just enjoying each other’s company. Adam spun you round and when you faced him again he was down on one knee. You froze, waiting for him to say something.
“Y/N, the past three years have been the best years of my life and that’s all because of you. You’ve saved my life, literally and figuratively and I can’t imagine a life without you in it.” Pausing for a second, Adam pulled a small velvet box out of his pocket. Inside was the most beautiful ring you had ever seen. “I love you so much Y/N. So darlin’ will you become my wife? Will you marry me?”
You were crying, nodding your head yes. You laughed out a “yes”. Adam stood up, picking you up with him. Spinning the two of you round, Adam placed his lips on yours, giving you a passionate kiss. Placing you back down, Adam took the ring out of the box and placed it on your finger. The sound of clapping and cheering came from behind you. Turing around you saw your friend, who had helped to make this evening amazing

Meet the Parents
Pairing: Jay Halstead x reader
Summary: Jay and Y/N have been dating for awhile now, and it’s finally time for Jay to meet her parents
Requested: No
Warnings: slight swearing, mention of having sex
Word Count: 1,596 Words
Tumblr media
“Look at that. Another case solved. We are officially the best unit ever,” Adam spoke.
I laughed. “I mean, you’re not wrong. Hey, has anyone seen Jay?”
“He was just in the locker room,” Hailey informed me as she packed up her things.
“Yeah. Any reason why he looked like he was about to piss himself?” Antonio asked me.
“He’s meeting my family for the first time tonight. I should go talk to him. I’ll see you guys tomorrow,” I tell the team and make my way towards the locker room. When I got inside, I found Jay sitting down on one of the benches, his legs resting on either side of the wood. “Hey,” I greet and straddle the portion of the bench in front of him so that we were mirror images. “What’s going on?”
“What if they don’t like me?” Jay asked and looked up at me.
“Why would you think that? You’re an amazing guy, Jay,” I murmur and take his hands in mine. “And my parents and sister are going to love you.” I leaned forwards and pressed a chaste kiss on his lips, which lasted longer than I expected, but I didn’t mind. When Jay and I finally parted, I rested my forehead against his. “I love you.”
Jay gave me a small smile. “I love you too.” After leaving the locker room, Jay and I packed up our things and headed back to our shared apartment. While we had only been dating for a few months now, we had known each other from work for a good amount of time, so it wasn’t a hard choice to make when Jay asked if I wanted to move in with him. At the apartment, I kicked off my shoes, took off my jacket, and then dragged Jay over to the couch for some cuddle time. I pressed myself against his chest and draped an arm over his waist, him doing the same for me, and just laid against him. Being in Jay’s arms always put me at ease, and I’m sure it did the same for him because I could feel the shift in his mood. For a while, we lounged around the house, but soon, it was time to get ready to go to dinner at my parents’ house.
“Babe, are you almost ready?” I ask and head into the bedroom, only to find Jay staring at his dresser. “Jay, why are you not dressed yet?”
“I don’t know what to wear,” Jay replied.
I chuckled softly and walked over to his dresser, pulling out a plain gray t-shirt and blue jeans. “Put this on. It’s my favorite outfit on you, except when you’re naked, of course.” Jay shook his head with a smile playing at his lips and took the clothes from my hands. “Now go get changed. I don’t want to be late.” Once Jay had finally gotten dressed, we made our way out front where my car was parked and climbed in. As we started driving, I could tell Jay was beginning to get nervous again. It didn’t take long to get to my parents’ house, and as soon as we got out of the car, I wrapped my arms around Jay’s torso. “Just be yourself. Everything is going to work out. I promise.”
“Okay,” Jay mumbled and laced his fingers with mine as we made our way up to the front door. I rang the doorbell, hearing the pleasant jingle go off in the house, and seconds later, the door opened to reveal my little sister, Elizabeth, or Lizzie for short. She was a whole 8 years younger than me, which, when we were little, was a huge difference, but now it didn’t matter too much.
“Hey, Lizzie,” I greet and step forward to give her a hug. Lizzie hugged me back quickly, and when I stepped back, I glanced towards Jay. “Lizzie, this is my boyfriend Jay. Jay, this is my sister Lizzie.”
“It’s nice to meet you,” Jay spoke and held out his hand, which Lizzie shook politely.
“You too,” Lizzie greeted and scanned him up and down before turning to me. “Y/N, why wasn’t I aware that your boyfriend was this hot? I would have put on some nicer clothes.”
“You look fine right now,” I tell her and lead Jay into the living room, where Lizzie’s college textbooks were scattered all over the coffee table.
“What are you studying?” Jay asked Lizzie.
“Uh, molecular biology. Sorry about the mess,” Lizzie muttered and went to clean up her books.
“It’s cool. My older brother actually majored in biology. He’s a doctor over at Chicago Med,” Jay said.
“Y/N? Is that you?” my mother called out from somewhere deeper in the house.
“Yeah. Is dad with you?” I question and gesture for Jay to follow me.
“Of course he is. You know he can’t go 5 minutes without sneaking some food,” my mother replied. I laughed and went down the hallway at the back of the living room, which had the bathroom, dining room, and stairs branching off from it, and at the back of the house was the kitchen, where both my mom and dad were. My mother was busy putting dough into a circular tray while my father was digging through the pantry looking for something to snack on. My mother then looked up from what she was doing, and when she saw me and Jay, she smiled. “You must be Jay. Y/N talks about you quite a bit, you know.”
Jay grinned. “I wasn’t aware.”
“Well, I can see why. You’re very handsome. You and Y/N would have beautiful babies,” my mother commented.
“Mom,” I hiss as I felt my cheeks begin to heat up.
“What? I’m just putting it out there. Do you like deep dish, Jay?” my mom asked.
“I love it,” Jay responded.
“Good. I’ve been making it homemade since Y/N was born. Louis, get your head out of the pantry and greet Jay,” my mom scolded to my father, who still hadn’t emerged from the pantry.
“Yeah yeah, Janine,” my father said and exited the pantry, closing the door behind him. He then extended his hand to Jay. “It’s nice to meet you, son.”
“Nice to meet you too, Mr. L/N,” Jay concurred.
“All right. I’m going to show Jay around. Please do not take out any embarrassing photos while we’re gone,” I urge my mother.
“No promises,” my mother said with a small smile. I shook my head and led Jay out of the kitchen and up the stairs, where we entered the first door on the left.
“Welcome to my childhood bedroom,” I reveal. Nothing had changed since I had moved out to attend college. The walls were a light gray along with the carpet and my bed set, seeing as I had a neutral theme going on. My twin sized bed sat in the far right corner with my desk in the far left. On it were some fake plants, a few picture frames, and scattered souvenirs I had picked up along the years. Immediately on our right you had my dresser, and to our left I had two white beanbags sitting on the floor. Jay headed straight to my desk and examined the pictures within the frames.
“You have not changed one bit,” Jay told me.
“Oh shut up,” I tease. After showing Jay the rest of the house along with the backyard, dinner was finally ready. We all sat down at the kitchen, and that’s when the questions started.
“So, Jay, how long have you been a police officer?” my father asked.
“Not my whole life, like some people may think. I actually used to be in the army. I was a Ranger,” Jay informed my family.
“No shit. I was in the Marines,” my father responded.
“When did you know you wanted to be with Y/N? I want all the details,” Lizzie demanded with a huge smile on her face.
“Um, there was one night after work where Y/N and I were at Molly’s together having a few beers. And as we were talking, I realized that I couldn’t survive without her, so I asked her out,” Jay answered. Finally, after eating dinner and talking for about another hour or two, it was time for Jay and I to head back out to our apartment. Jay was waiting for me by the front door when my mother pulled me aside.
“He’s a lovely guy, Y/N,” my mother exclaimed. “I really like him.”
“Yeah,” I say. “Me too. I’ll talk to you later, mom.” As Jay and I walked out of the house hand and hand, I stopped in my tracks and pulled Jay down so that our lips touched. I could feel Jay smile against my lips as he wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me closer to his chest.
“What was that for?” Jay asked me.
“I love you,” I tell him.
Jay grinned. “I love you too. So, how’d I do?”
“Amazing. My whole family loves you. I told you it’d be fine,” I reply.
“And you were right. What do you say we get back home and celebrate on how well this went?” Jay suggested.
“What are you thinking?” I question.
“Maybe an activity that involves your clothes on the floor,” Jay whispered in my ear, which sent a shiver down my spine.
“You don’t know how turned on that just made me. You better speed home,” I state.
“Oh, I was planning on it,” Jay said.

Warnings: a passionate kiss? A badly written passionate kiss.
A/n: okay, this strongly reminds me of a transformers movie I saw and I can’t remember what the movie was called. But anyways, if you want something to listen to whilst reading, listen to Back to Life by Hailey Steinfield. It’s from the movie that I saw and it also just gives off good ✨vibes✨. Also, sorry in advance for that cringey kiss, I have never kissed anybody before so yeah….

You sat in your vehicle with Shoto Todoroki, both of you watching the sunset. You two were parked up on a viewpoint above the city. The colors of pink, orange, and red fill your eyes. Resting your head on his shoulder, the soft breeze coming through the windows blowing his multi-colored hair to the side. You two sat in silence, a peaceful silence. Until such silence was broken.
“I got you something.” Shoto said, turning around to grab a small bag out of the back seat. Lifting your head off his shoulder, you watched him pull a generic gift bag out from the floor board behind you.
“Sho, you didn’t have to get me anything.” You told him, shaking your head with a smile on your face.
“I know we agreed on no presents but, I wanted to get you something special. Since, since your special to me.” He said, blushing slightly at his own meaningful words
You smiled to yourself. He was truly the best boyfriend on the planet. The mood, the vibe around you was perfect. The golden light from the son filtering in on your car that you had dreamed of owning since you where six. Shoto, your favorite person in the whole wide world, sitting in front of you. To top it all off, you had something planned for him as well, and you where going to get to break the surprised any minute.
“Shoto, what did you d-“ You started to ask a question, but cut yourself off when you saw what he had gotten you. It was an adorable plush dog that had the extremely fuzzy and soft fur. It looked to be a golden retriever from the golden color of it’s fur. It was the most adorable plushie you now owned.
Though the plushie was cute, it was what was around the plushies neck that caught your eye and made your heart turn into a melted piece of chocolate.
It was a necklace, that had a record charm on it. The charm was gold, like the chain, and not too bulky. What was engraved in the charm, that’s what took your breath away. It read “cause in a sky full of stars, I think I saw you, my darling Y/n.”
“Shoto I-this-I can’t-it’s beautiful.” You stuttered out.
“Thank you Y/n. it reminded me of you. How you love vintage things. I asked Mina what was vintage and she said records where really in style. I remembered you having a record player and owning some records. “ He explained
“Where did you get the quote.” You asked, your heart already beating out of your chests from happiness. He remembered your vintage obsession. Your records, your record player, everything.
“I heard it on the radio, and the first thing that came to my mind was you.” He answered, raising a hand to place on your cheek.
“You are truly wonderful, you remember that for the rest of your life Shoto Todoroki.” You told him
His eyes became the slightest fraction wider at the use of his full name, and his cheeks became a bit pinker at the kind words. His hand still resting gently on your cheek, you two now facing each other, the necklace around the plushies neck, that you had set back in the gift bag to continue to admire later.
“I do not deserve you Y/n.” He claimed.
You looked straight into his multi-colored eyes. He looked straight into yours. You felt yourself being physically drawn to him, as if you two where magnets of opposite poles, a proton and a neutron, a sunflower the way it is faced toward the sun. Before you knew it, your faces where inches from one another, you could feel his hair blowing lightly against your forehead. The cool late evening breeze blowing it.
Then, it happened. You closed your eyes, and both of your lips touched. Well, more like forged themselves together. The kiss was long, definitely a good minute, You two where completely attached to each other by your lips. It was as if this kiss was your lifeline, and breaking it was your downfall.
Eventually though, you two broke it, and you remembered your little surprise you had for Shoto. It wasn’t anything compared to what he had given you, but it was something.
“Okay, so don’t laugh at me….it’s gonna look like trash at first. I didn’t have time to properly fold it, so it’s kinda crumpled in my pocket but-“ You where cut off by Shoto’s calm and kind words
“Darling, it will be worth it if it’s from you.” He assured you
“Okay…we’ll…here..” You said, pulling out a crumpled piece of newspaper and handing it to him.
“I know it doesn’t look like much but I found it while going through my grandfather’s 12 different newspapers he gets everyday. I know you said you had never been to one, and how it would be fun to try. So, I found this ad, they are doing one in the next town over.” You explained to him
“A drive in movie, at 10:00, today.” He read off the newspaper, his voice full of astonishment, “you remembered.”
“Of course I remembered. I’m excited to see what the movie it’s.” You said.
“You think Beetle will be able to make it?” He questioned, tilting his head towards the dash.
Beetle, your car, was named after the type of car it was. A blue, year unknown, Volkswagen Beetle. You had begged your dad for one ever since you had seen him in pictures of his younger days with the car in them. So, for your 16th birthday, he had got you one. You had named it Beetle and determined it to be a he/him.
“Oh, he’ll be fine. As long as we get gas before we start driving outside the city.” You said, patting the dashboard.
“Then I guess we should start driving.” Shoto said.
“I guess we should.” You agreed.
“Are you ready?” Shoto asked, putting the key I had given to him in the keyhole to start the car.
“I’m ready.” You replied.

Another Day Off??
Hellooo everyone!! My post 8x11 fic is finally here!!! I've change so many things about this over the course of a week and I'm finally happy to post it. I hope you enjoy!!
"I'm not anywhere Hailey. Seriously, I'm not" rang through the blonde's mind as she awoke in her boyfriend's arms. Who'd thought that Jay Halstead, detective and war vet, would be such a cuddler? That line was one that she did not expect to hear after opening up to Jay. Everyone ran after seeing this broken side of her, so why didn't Jay run?
Her thought bubble bursted when she felt the lips of none other than the cuddler himself ghost her shoulder. He then pressed feathery kisses trailing up her collarbone until he reached the base of her jaw. She couldn't help but smile at his actions.
"Good morning, beautiful" Jay whispered as she turned around to face him, much like the previous morning before everything went awry.
"Good morning" Hailey replied and tilted her chin to press a firm but gentle kiss on his lips. "This seems awfully familiar..."
"Well, Hank did give us another DO, Hails." He kissed her again.
Realising they needed air, Hailey broke the kids first and laughed at Jay's expression, one of both surprise and disappointment. "What do you wanna do today?" she asked him.
"Well, I want you. And then coffee and I want waffles." He replied, his grin widening as Hailey reacted to him repeating her words from the day before. "Using my words eh, Halstead? You seemed to miss-"
Jay placed his hand over her mouth and spoke. "I booked the gun range for 1pm. We're all set to try out the new .44 mags."
Hailey pushed Jay's hand off her face and took in in hers, squeezing it gently.
"You're something else, Jay Halstead. I love you."
Jay wrapped his other arm around her and pulled her as close to him as physically possible and planted a kiss on her forehead." I love you too, babe."
Their lips met in a sweet kiss before Hailey pulled away. "I seen to recall you saying that you wanted me?" She teased and Jay laughed, pulling her in once again. That eventually evolved into a full blown make out, followed by clothes being strewn all over the room.
~
After their shared shower, the pair got dressed. Jay out on his green Henley that he knew hailey loved so much, along with his usual jeans. Hailey decided to surprise her boyfriend with a brand new green velvet top, paired with black leather pants and combat boots. Let's just say Jay could not keep his jaw off the floor and asked his girl to give him a spin around, showing off her incredible style.
As it was already past 11 in the morning, the couple made their way to their favourite diner for lunch. Hailey ordered her favourite waffles with chocolate syrup and bacon, causing the man to roll his eyes at his girlfriend's sweet tooth, while Jay ordered spiced chicken and waffles, his favourite. Once the food arrived, Jay was doing more "dodging Hailey trying to feed him her horribly sweet confection" than eating his own. And when Hailey wasn't doing that or eating her own, she was eating his food.
"Hails!" Jay jokingly exclaimed when Hailey too another bite of his chicken.
"What?" Hailey laughed. "You really are such a health nut, Jay. Not even one bite of my waffle? Just one bite please? Do it for me.."
"Only because I love you." Was Jay's reply as he ate the piece that Hailey was feeding him, allowing her to laugh like an excited child.
After the gun range, where Jay beat Hailey, the couple went to grab some bartoli's for their easy dinner. As they ate, there were many things that swirled in Jay's mind. Many involved how he loved Hailey and how amazing she is, but the most prominent one was what she said to him the day before.
Why don't you ask the real question. What's wrong with me? How screwed up am I? At what point do you cut your losses and run?
"Jay... Come back" Hailey tapped her boyfriend shoulders gently, trying to break the trance that he slipped into. "You okay?"
"Yea, I'm.... Wait, could you listen to me for a moment?" Jay replied and looked right into her eyes, using their "Upstead eye language" that everyone calls it.
"uh okay?" Hailey hesitated, knowing what was coming. But she wanted to be better, so she's gonna listen despite how hard it's gonna be.
"You know, when you told me that the real things I wanted to know was how screwed up you were..... That's not true, Hailey." He placed his hand on top of hers and she intertwined her fingers with his, squeezing gently.
"When you said that, I wondered what made you think that... Why did you think that something was wrong with you because there's absolutely nothing wrong with you. Youre perfect the way you are and I want you to know..." He looked from the floor to her beautiful face, blue orbs welling up with tears.
"That I am never leaving you, Hailey Anne Upton. Just because you have demons and parts of you are broken as you call it, it doesn't mean I'm running. You didn't run when I was going through my issues and I'm not going anywhere while you face yours. I love you, so much. Leaving you would basically mean that I'm leaving my life behind so, remember..." He reached out to her face, cupping her cheek gently as he wiped her fallen tears.
"I'm not going anywhere. I'm here for the good and the bad. The long haul, babe. There's nothing wrong with you, you're not screwed up, okay?"
Hailey couldn't let out a response without letting out a sob so she nodded and blinked, causing her walls to break down again. Jay wrapped his arms around her frame, bringing her into him as she cried. She cried for her past, she cried for him. Jay let her cry, soothing her by running his hand along her spine and caressing her waist.
A low whisper came from her and he would have missed it had he not realised her cried died down.
"Thank you, Jay. For not running, for loving every bit of me. I love you."
Hailey pulled away from his embrace slightly and looked into his forest green eyes, as he leaned down to press a kiss to her lips. One that symbolized his love and commitment to her and she reciprocated with the same feelings. One that would be given to the other throughout the rest of their relationship.

warnings: mention of miscarriage
masterlist | series masterlist
When the pregnancy test came back with two defined lines staring back at her, Kim had no idea what to do or how to feel. After losing her first pregnancy, the doctors had told her that the likelihood of her being able to conceive again after sustaining such trauma was slim to none. Standing inside of one of the stalls in the district bathrooms wasn't where she had ever imagined having a bombshell like this unleashed upon her, but alas — there she was. The world had stopped to a halt around her; how could this be possible?
"Hey Burgess! You in here?"
The sound of Hailey's voice snapped the brunette back to reality, her hands trembling ever so slightly as she kept her eyes trained on the plastic object in her hand. Despite being able to hear Hailey's footsteps growing closer, Kim was at a loss for words. It was as if her vocal cords had spontaneously paralysed themselves — no matter how much she wanted to force out the words, she was in too much shock to be able to do some. "Sarge is looking for you upstairs. Something about —" Hailey cut herself off as she pushed open the unlocked door to the stall Kim was in without warning. The panel hit her arm — hard — but Kim was too numb to feel it. That's gonna bruise, she thought.   "Shit, sorry!" Hailey's face contorted into one of guilt as she raised a hand to her mouth, but the guilt was quickly replaced with concern as she caught a glimpse of her friend's expression. "Kim? What's wrong?"
There was a piercing silence for a few moments before Kim finally raised her head to look away from the object in hand and instead at Hailey. Her eyes locked with the blue eyed girl and in the same second, the words spilled out of her lips without any warning. "I'm pregnant." Hailey's eyes widened. "You — You're — What?" "I'm pregnant, Hailey. I'm. . . I'm pregnant." Hailey wasted no time in pushing her way into the stall, standing beside Kim as she craned her neck over to see the test. As soon as she too saw the two lines, no matter how faint they may have been, a grin burst out onto her lips as she grabbed her friend's arm excitedly. "Kim! You're pregnant!" Hailey exclaimed in a hushed tone. "This is good, right?!" Kim stared numbly. "I — I don't know. This wasn't meant to be able to happen. It wasn't — I don't . . ." Despite it coming as a shock, both Adam and Kim were overjoyed at the news once it finally hit each of them. Kim was quick to go on leave; she didn't want to get herself in the same situation she had gotten herself into last time. Adam wasn't opposed either, especially with her pregnancy being marked as high risk from the moment the test came up positive. She was bored and miserable the whole time, but that all went away the very second that her baby girl was placed into her arms, wrapped in a pastel purple blanket and looking more beautiful than either of her parents could have ever imagined. Born at 4:17am on the 22nd of April, Baby Grace Nicole Burgess-Ruzek was Kim and Adam's new pride and joy. The first few days (and nights) were rough. After being discharged from the hospital, acclimating themselves to what living with a newborn was like. Sleep was quickly slipping away from them, and despite the fact that they could stare at their child for hours and hours on end — Grace was a particularly colicky baby even at just a few days old. Kim was tired, sore and frustrated. Rocking Grace in her arms, the crying baby only ten days old, her eyes were barely staying open. "Kim." Adam entered the room yawning. "Give her to me so you can get some sleep — God knows you need it." Kim shook her head stubbornly, still rocking side to side with the newborn. "I'm okay. I just can't get her to stop crying." "You just gave birth and you've barely slept for the last week. You can go rest, babe — I've got her." Adam came up behind the woman and their new daughter, wrapping his arms around them from behind as he kissed Kim's neck affectionately. His touch was warm and more than welcome to the woman whose mind and body had been to hell and back to say the least. "I don't wanna leave her," Kim mumbled into Adam's arm, her head resting against him as she let her eyes flutter shut. "She's crying." "She's not upset, babe. Remember? The doctor said some babies just cry a lot." "Adam, I'm biologically inclined to feel the need to respond and help the baby — I can't ignore it. You and your man brain can just tune it out." "My man brain?" "Yes. Your stupid man brain." "I think that might be the sleep deprivation talking," Adam laughed as he planted a kiss on his fiancée's neck, rocking the three of them back and forth comfortingly until they all could get even just a little bit more sleep. 🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆 Kim and Adam got married just after Grace's second birthday. Little Grace was the flower girl and practically stole the show away from the couple, winning over everybody's hearts when she stole the microphone from Hailey at the ceremony to sing about Minnie Mouse. "Hey, little miss! Give your Aunty Hailey back the microphone! She was actually saying something nice about me for once!" "Uh uh!" Grace cackled loudly, a grin on her face as she held the microphone close to her chest. "My turn!" Anybody in that room could see the love that Adam possessed for his little girl as he scooped her up into his arms, his face lighting up at the sound of her infectious laughter. Everything that man did was for Grace and for Kim — he loved them more than anything in the world. By the time Grace was four, Kim was the one to take her to her first day of preschool. She would be lying if she said she wasn't a little bit emotional at seeing her only child off, but she kept a brave face as she knelt down in front of her and held Grace's tiny hands in her own. "You feeling good about today, Gracie?" Kim asked, a small smile on her face. "Duh! I'm gonna make so many new friends, Mommy!"  Grace rocked back on her heels with a grin. "I just wish Daddy could'a come with us." "Surprise!" Both Kim and Grace looked up to see Adam standing behind them with a lopsided smile. He was still in his uniform after working a patrol shift, both girl's faces lighting up with joy. "Daddy!" Grace ran up to her father and hugged his leg, giggling happily to herself.  Kim was relieved to have her husband there with her as she too gave him a quick peck on the lips, looping one arm in with Adam's while the other hand rested on her daughter's shoulder. "What are you doing here, Daddy?" Adam glanced over at Kim with a chuckle. "I figured your mom might need some emotional support. . . and I couldn't not come for your first day of school, kiddo!" "It's gonna be so great. I'm gonna play with so many toys and I'm gonna paint and play in the sand and swing on the swing and use the building blocks and —" "Okay, Grace," Adam let out a hearty laugh at the four year old's enthusiasm. "Take a breath. You don't want to lose your voice before you even go in there." As their daughter bounced up and down on the spot while waiting for the doors to her classroom to open, Kim couldn't help but find it difficult to stop herself from choking up slightly, her hand finding Adam's for comfort as he gave it a light squeeze, knowing how she was feeling all too well. She wouldn't ever admit it, but Kim had definitely taken her time in getting Grace ready that morning, slowly doing her hair and taking in every second so that it wouldn't feel like her baby was growing up as fast as she was.  It seemed like just a few months ago she was holding a little infant in her arms —now, she had an independent, headstrong and ever-so-stubborn four year old with dark brown hair and eyes that resembled honey. She was a perfect mixture of both of her parents, both in looks and personality, leaving those who met her in a spin to say the least. It took all of Adam to let go of Grace's hand that morning, and even more of Kim to stop herself from weeping as she peppered her daughter's face with kisses to hide her bittersweet sadness. "You make sure you be nice to the other kids, okay?" Kim told her daughter sternly between kisses. "And if you need anything, Mommy took the day off of work today so you can call me and I'll answer, okay? And make sure you eat all of your lunch! Oh, and for the love of God — don't take your shoes off and lose one again, baby — just don't take them off at all. And if anybody is mean to you or —" "Mommy." "Yeah, Gracie?" "Stop talking now. My class is goin' in." Kim let out a strained chuckle as she nodded lightly, giving Grace's arms one last rub as she stood back up. "Mommy and Daddy love you very much, okay?” Adam grinned from beside his wife. "And we hope your first day of big school is a good day." As her teacher made the last call for students and both Adam and Kim watched their daughter walk inside of the classroom, time sped up even more than they ever could have though from that moment on. Next thing they knew, Grace was turning eleven and about to start middle school. She spent most days after school helping out Trudy at the front desk for some pocket money, and although at first her parents had been opposed to it, it became apparent very quickly that Grace and her Aunt Trudy got along like a house on fire. Grace was a hard worker — Trudy liked that about her — and after the eleven year old had gotten a hold of the ropes, she wasted no time in putting her to work. Grace loved it too — there was something about the chaos that comforted her (just another way that she was like Kim and Adam). The twenty-first district was practically Grace's second home, and she wouldn't have had it any other way. "Whatcha doin, Grace?" Adam had asked as he came downstairs to check on his daughter midway into his shift. "Having fun?" "Oh, tons of fun! I'm sorting out these papers and answering the phones. See? These ones with the red dots in the corners go into the 'important' pile, these ones with the purple dots go into the 'tomorrow' pile and the ones with the blue dots go into the 'not worth anybody's time' pile!" "I bet your Aunt Trudy taught you that last one, huh?" A face-eating grin exploded onto Grace's lips. "Duh." "Alrighty," Adam gave a small chuckle at his daughter's endless enthusiasm for the tasks that he would rather smash his head into the wall than do. "Your mom and I will be finished around eight, and then we'll head home, alright? You can order yourself food if you want, otherwise we'll pick something up on the way home and have a late dinner." "Kay. I love you." "I love you more, kiddo." Her father gave a quick ruffle of the hair before jogging back up the stairs to Intelligence, causing her to make a face as she smoothed it back down before getting to work once more, ever determined to make everybody proud. 🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆 It was nearing on one in the morning, and after working on a particularly difficult case, Kim had come home to Adam and her daughter who was sleeping soundly in her bed. Kim would be lying if she said that the kidnapping case they had just closed hadn't shaken her to her core — two kids, one of them Grace's age; it was a lot for her to handle. Walking towards her daughter's bedroom, Kim stood in the doorway as the ground gave a subtle creek beneath her weight, the woman staring and watching Grace just to calm herself down. "You okay?" The sound of Adam's voice had come as a shock to Kim, who quickly swung around in surprise before relaxing as she realised who had crept up behind her. His hair was stuck up and across his face in every direction by the hands of what looked to Kim like sweat; the hot Chicago summer had done a good job at keeping the house at an uncomfortably warm temperature all day and all night. "Did I wake you?" Kim whispered back to Adam, her hand finding his which had perched itself up onto her shoulder softly. She had purposely dodged his question, in fear that she wouldn't have an answer to provide him with.   "No, you're fine," he shook his head in response. "I was still up. You know I can't sleep when you're not home." Kim gave a small, partially forced smile. "I know." There was silence for a few more seconds as both Kim and Adam listened to their daughter's light snores, the sight of her brown hair strewn across the pillow while holding a purple toy in her hands somewhat consoling for the two of them before Kim finally spoke up. "I just . . . I had to see her. Hear her. Today was so — it was. . . " "I know." Adam wrapped his arms around Kim, pulling her closer into him as her head found its regular place on his chest. "They were the same age as her, you know? It's just . . . It's so scary to think that — that . . . " Kim's voice had trailed off, but nothing more needed to be said. The unspoken words were enough, and standing there all together provided each of them with enough comfort to ease their aching hearts, even if they didn't know it. Adam's hand had found Kim's at some point, their fingers intertwined perfectly in with one another as if each crack and crevice had been purposefully placed so that the other hand would simply snap into position. Their little family wasn't much — but it was theirs. Beautifully and indescribably so.

Not a Race - Upstead
Tumblr media
Summary: Jay and Will revisit a conversation they had years ago, and this time it has a happy ending. (I promise Hailey shows up later lol)
Warnings: fluff, so much fluff
Requested: No
Jay pulled up in front of his and Hailey’s now shared apartment, putting the truck in park. “I’ll see you at Molly’s later?” He asked his girlfriend, confirming their plans.
“Yes Jay.” Hailey said, rolling her eyes. “I will be there at nine, the exact same time I said I was going to be there five times today.”
“And who are you supposed to pick up?” Jay questioned, smirking at her.
“Trudy.” Jay gave her a pointed look, “I am supposed to fake an emergency, but bring her to Molly’s instead.”
Jay smiled at Hailey, finding her annoyance adorable. “I love you.” He said, his demeanor softening a bit.
Hailey’s grumpy look faded and she leaned across the center console, pecking him on the lips. “I love you too.” Jay reached out and pulled her back to him, kissing her again. Hailey smiled into it before reluctantly pulling away. “You gotta go,” she sighed. “How’d you get roped into to doing this anyway?” She asked as she opened the truck door.
“Kim.” Jay said, and Hailey nodded. “Five year anniversaries are a big deal apparently.”
“Apparently.” Hailey laughed, shutting the door. Jay rolled down the window, not quite ready to leave yet. “Platt and Mouch better appreciate it, they’ve stolen so much of my Jay time lately.”
Jay chuckled, “Babe, we work together...and live together. You see me at least twenty-three hours out of the day.”
Hailey shrugged, “It’s not enough.” She smirked at him before heading towards the front door. “I’ll see you later.”
“Wear something pretty.” Jay called at her, laughing.
 After he was sure she was safely inside, he pulled out of the parking spot and out of the parking lot. He made the short drive to his brother's apartment, where Will was waiting for him. He was feeling a little jittery, so he opted for the stairs to hopefully wear him out a little bit. “Hey man.” He said, entering the apartment. (He had a key in case Will ever did something stupid...like lose his.)
“Hey.” Will said, getting up off the couch and heading towards the kitchen. “You want something to drink?” He asked.
“No, I’m good.” Jay said, leaning against his counter.
“How are you feeling?” Will asked, taking a sip of the water bottle he got himself.
Jay shrugged, “I’m good.” Will eyed him, “Listen man, I know we talked about it before, but I just want to make sure that it’s okay...again.” Jay thought back to what felt like a lifetime ago, a few days before Erin left for New York.
Jay stood in front of the whiteboard with Will, looking through photos of victims from their recent drug case. “At least you guys get overtime.” Will said, before fishing in his pocket, Will pulled a red velvet box, surprising Jay. Will had seemed so against him proposing to Erin that he was sure he wouldn’t let him near their mom’s ring. “Mom’s ring. She always said it’s not a race, but whoever meets the right girl first gets the ring.”
Jay took the box in his hands, chuckling. “Hmm.” His mom was so important to him, and having Erin wear her ring felt like the blessing they needed, like his mom was a part of it.
Will watched his brother with caution, but smiled kindly. “You sure about this?” Jay stared blankly at him and Will nodded, he always knew he was the king of stupid questions. “You tell dad?”
“Why do I have to tell dad? It’s mom’s ring, not his.” Jay rushed out, immediately jumping down his brother's throat. Kevin interrupted them before Will could say anything, but Jay walked away feeling confident in his decision.
And he was, maybe even as confident as he was now. Jay pulled the same velvet box out of his pocket and set it on the counter. “Will, I’m sure.” He said, and this time he had the words to express how he was feeling. “I’ve never been more sure of anything in my entire life, but I already had one chance with this ring and if you want it-”
“Jay.” Will said, cutting him off. “I know mom always said it wasn’t a race, but you won. Hailey is…”
“The most amazing person that I have ever met.” Jay sighed out.
Will laughed, “I was going to say ‘going to love it,’ but that works too.”
Jay beamed at his brother, taking the box back in his hand. “She’s the one Will, I know it. And I never thought I would say this, but I wish I could tell dad.”
Will placed a comforting hand on his brother’s back, “He knows man. They both do.”
Jay took a big breath and laughed nervously. “I’m proposing.” He said.
“Yeah, you are.” Will said, sharing his brother’s obvious joy. All he ever wanted was for Jay to be happy, and he knew without a doubt that Hailey was it for him.
“You think she’ll say yes?” Jay asked in a teasing voice.
Will laughed loudly, “I’d say it’s a solid 80 percent.”
...
About an hour later Jay was back in his truck headed to Molly’s. It was almost seven o’clock, two hours from Hailey’s arrival and the unit had a lot to do before she got there. Almost like she could hear him thinking about her, he got a text.
Hailes: I know I’m bringing Trudy, but who is in charge of Mouch? Shouldn’t they be coming together?
Shit. He hadn’t thought of that.
Jay: Ritter is getting Mouch. Don’t worry about it, we have a plan.
Hailes: Okay, whatever you say.
Jay sighed, he would admit a fake anniversary party was a little lame, but the only other thing he could think of was a fake baby shower and something told him that it wouldn’t really be appropriate to throw one of those in a bar.
Hailes: Also, “in charge” Jay is kinda sexy...you should help throw parties more often.
Jay smirked at his phone while he sat in the parking lot, shaking his head he texted back.
Jay: Good to know ;)
Jay: Get ready for the best birthday of your life.
When he pulled the door open, he was met with Kim shouting orders at Herrmann, Mouch, Kevin and Adam. Most of the decorations were already hung and he was informed that there were ten bottles of champagne hidden behind the counter.
“Wow. It looks amazing in here.” He looked at Kim directly. “Thank you.”
Kim grinned, “Of course! It’s not everyday that one of my oldest friends proposes to my best friend.” She says, playfully punching his arm. Vanessa had been gone for over a year and in that time Hailey and Kim had gotten really close, they all had. After years of losing one person after another, the members of intelligence felt more like a family than they ever had before.
“This is crazy, isn’t it?” Jay asked, Adam and Kevin trickling into the conversation.
“It’s a long time coming, that’s for sure.” Adam said, wrapping his arm around Kim.
Kevin scoffed, “Oh, like you can talk.” He teased.
Jay’s nerves got worse and worse, “This isn’t too much right?” Jay asked his friends, “You think she’ll like it?”
“Jay.” Kim said, gaining his attention. “You could slip a ring pop on Hailey’s finger in front of the district and she would love it, because she loves you. But this,” She gestures around the room, “this is beautiful and incredibly sweet and romantic. This is everything she deserves.”
Jay smiles with pride, he wants to be everything she deserves, but Hailey Upton deserves the entire world and he wouldn’t mind spending his entire life trying to give her that. “Burgess, we just need to get you a t-shirt that says ‘I’m basically a hallmark card.’” Kevin says, motioning across his chest.
“Let’s have a toast.” Kim says and on que Herrmann has glasses ready for them.
Kevin raises his glass, “To the OGs.”
Kim rolls her eyes, but raises her glass as well, “To Jay and Hailey.”
Jay raises his glass and so does Adam, giving a toast of his own. “To upstead.”
Jay lowers his arm and glares at Adam, “Man, you have got to stop calling us that.”
“Anyway,” Kim says, “To love.”
“True love.” Adam interjects.
“Adam.” Kim snaps.
“What, you're the only one that gets to be a hallmark card? That’s not fair.”
“How about this,” Jay says, raising his glass again. “To me not shitting my pants before she gets here.”
They all laugh, “I’ll drink to that,” Kevin says shrugging and then all down their drinks.
At eight forty-five Jay stood at the bar, his hands sweaty and his knees a little shaky. It was fifteen minutes until go time and he got more anxious by the second. He was pretty sure she was going to say yes, but he wanted it to be perfect for her. As perfect as she was for him.
Most of their friends have arrived and were talking amongst themselves around the perimeter of the bar, leaving room for Hailey to eventually make her way down the middle to Jay. Everyone was buzzing, taking in the decorations and consuming copious amounts of alcohol, something that Jay had decided against doing even though he would love a beer (or five) right about now.
At three til nine, he got a text from Hailey stating that they had arrived and Jay shushed everyone, standing in the middle of the room to wait for his (hopefully) future wife.
Hailey walked down the sidewalk with the desk sergeant, hiding her smile. She was excited to see what her friends had come up with for the happy couple. They reached the door and Hailey smirked at Trudy, “Hey sarge.”
“Upton?”
“Happy anniversary.”
This time Trudy smirked, “It isn’t my anniversary.”
“What-” Hailey started, but froze in her spot as she opened the door. The sight in front of her was breathtaking. The usual fairy lights were still hung up, but also hanging from the ceiling were hundreds of pictures, pictures of her and Jay. Hailey felt her eyes welling up with tears, she took a few steps forward, looking around to see all of her closest friends, her family. At a closer look, she could see all of the tables had empty bottles of various alcohols, all labeled with dates and cards with memories.
He was grinning ear to ear, but when she saw him, it somehow got even bigger. “Jay.” She laughed out.
“Hey.” He said, meeting her in the middle of the room.
“I hate to break it to you, but you decorated for the wrong couple.” She joked.
“Oh no, really?” He gasped and Hailey laughed.
Jay took her in, she was wearing her signature black jeans and a blue sweater. She looked as beautiful as ever, and he was ready. “Quite the crowd…” She whispered.
“I know, I’m a little nervous.” He said, reaching out to take her hand in his. “Hailey Anne Upton, there are not enough words to describe how much I love you. And I have never been good at expressing my feelings, you know that better than anyone. But I have said it a million times and I will say it a million more: I would follow you anywhere. I looked at you and knew you were the most beautiful woman I have ever met. I looked at you and I trusted you, I have trusted you since the day I met you. I look at you, and I’ve got it. I look at you and I see the rest of my life, I see that you are everything I have ever wanted and more. I look at you and I know that you are it for me, there will never be anyone like you Hailey.”
Hailey felt the tears begin to roll down her face, he used her own words against her. Jay reached in his pocket, pulling out just a ring. “This is my mother’s ring, and for so long she was the most important woman in my life. But she has been gone for a long time and Hailey you have taken that place, and she would have loved you. So,” Jay said, finally getting down on one knee. “Will you make me the luckiest man alive, and marry me?”
Hailey took a deep breath, trying to pull herself together. “Yes.” She choked out before launching herself into his arms. Jay caught her with ease and kissed her passionately as their friends cheered for them. Jay reluctantly set Hailey back down on the floor, pressing another kiss to her lips before stepping back and finally slipping the ring on her finger.
“Perfect fit.” He said, pulling her to him and pressing a kiss to her forehead. “I love you.” He said, peeking down at her.
“I love you so much.” She hugged him tighter, “And I cannot wait to be your wife.”
“Let’s just elope, we can get married tomorrow.” Jay said.
Hailey scoffed, “That’s a funny joke, Kim would kill me.”
“Good point.” He said, holding her tightly. “I’m thinking of a June wedding.”
“Did you really just say that?” Hailey burst out laughing.
Jay grimaced, “We don’t have to talk about it…”
Hailey turned to face him, pressing her palms to his chest. “How about this? We can get married whenever and wherever you want, as long as you wear your thigh holster during the whole ceremony.”
Jay gave her a shocked look, “Please tell me you aren’t kidding.”
Hailey got up on her tiptoes and whispered in his ear, “I’m dead serious.”
“Thank God.”
The happy couple accepted some congratulations before sneaking over to the bar. It had turned into a full on party, Herrmann turned the music up and everything. “You know, Hailey Halstead has a nice ring to it.” She confessed as she leaned into Jay.
“I think so.” He said, beaming at her.
“Excuse me everyone.” Kim said, clinking her glass as they were passed around to everyone. She raised hers, “To the happy couple, I love you both and I am so happy for you. We all are.”
“And to the fact that Jay didn’t shit his pants!” Adam interjected from beside her.
“What?” Hailey whispered under her breath.
“Don’t worry about it…” Jay muttered, mentally punching Adam in the face.
Kim shrugged, “Sure.” They all raised their glasses and cheered. Jay set his and Hailey’s down and dipped her dramatically, bringing his lips to hers once again.
“I love you Jay Halstead,” She said as he brought her back to a standing position.
“I love you too, the future Mrs. Hailey Halstead.”
A/N: I watched the clip from 4x23 and then debated posting this idea just as a discussion comment, but then I was like “why not” and I just wrote it! I’m so glad I did, I wrote it so fast and loved writing it. I also hope that this didn’t come off as Erin bashing, I try not to write like that. I was the biggest linstead fan and I still love Erin, I just have moved on from linstead and wanted to show the potential parallels. Anyway, I promise I will update Lost or Found soon, it’s been crazy the past few months and I honestly haven’t had the motivation to write, but the scooby gang will be back soon! Thank you so much for reading! <3

Happy Birthday Hailey!
It’s Hailey’s @steve-is-a-babe birthday today so I wrote them a fic! It’s ~1.5k Modern AU sickfic with Joe and Nicky.  I hope that you like it and that you had a wonderful day!  If you want to read it on ao3, it’s here.
Mi prenderò cura di te
Yusuf al-Kaysani was having a very bad day.  His nose looked like Rudolph’s, every breath exacerbated his sore throat, and he was aching to his bones.
In short, he had a cold.
He had called in sick to work already, but he fumbled to pick up his phone and hit his number one speed dial.
“Good morning, amore mio,” Nicky’s voice came from the other end of the line.
Joe felt momentarily better just at the sound of his boyfriend’s voice.  They had met through university, ever since Nicky had asked the professor a pointed question in the middle of lecture and Joe had taken one look at him and thought, “That one.”
He had gone up to Nicky after class and asked a follow-up question to what he had asked the prof.  The ensuing discussion led to eating in the dining hall together to talk more, to exchanging numbers, to sitting together in class.  To debates turning to passionate kisses and concessions of validity in the afterglow.
Two years later, they were graduated and still together.
“Hello, ya amar,” Joe said, wincing at how rough his voice sounded.
“Are you alright?  You sound awful,” Nicky asked.
Joe chuckled, but it immediately turned into a coughing fit.  It took a long time for him to stop.  “I’m sick,” he said to his phone, which had fallen from his grasp onto the bed.
“Really,” Nicky drawled.
“Shut up,” Joe whined.  “I feel terrible and deserve your pity.”
Nicky laughed softly.  “You can have it.  I give it freely.”
After a pause, he said slowly, “You know, I could take a PTO day and come over.  Make you something.  Give you my pity in person.”
“Nooooooooo, I’m so gross, Nicky,” Joe complained.
“Joe.  I’ve seen you during finals multiple times.  You hadn’t showered in days and were living off Cheetos and energy drinks.  Do you really think I will fall out of love with you now?” Nicky asked exasperatedly.
“You might get sick.  Don’t wanna risk it,” Joe mumbled.  He realized he was curled around his phone in the fetal position, wrapped around where Nicky’s voice was coming from.
“Please, tesoro?  Let me take care of you?” Nicky asked softly.
How was Joe supposed to say no to that?
________________________________
He was dozing when Nicky buzzed his apartment.  Groaning, Joe dragged his sorry ass out of bed and down the hall to hit the speaker.
“Nicolò?” he asked.
“Sono qui,” Nicky’s voice came through the speaker.
“Alhamdulillah,” Joe muttered as he buzzed him in.  He unlocked his front door and leaned against the wall next to it, waiting to hear Nicky’s footsteps.
When he heard someone coming down the hall, he eased the door open.  Nicky pushed the door open more with his hip as both hands were full of reusable grocery bags.
“Nicky…” Joe sighed, happy to see him but also not, cause Joe knew he looked a fright and was probably contagious.  He didn’t even want to think about how much money Nicky had spent at the store.
“Give me one moment and then I will be right back,” Nicky said, quickly walking down the hall.  Joe drifted against the wall, so it seemed like Nicky was back in a moment, but there was a steaming cup of tea in his hands, so it must have been a while.
“Come on, let’s get you comfortable,” Nicky said, putting a hand on Joe’s lower back and directing him to his old, lumpy couch.
“Oh, Nicky,” Joe said when he saw it.
Nicky had made him a blanket nest.  His softest blankets were at the ready to cocoon him, with his computer set up to watch something on and a large cup of orange juice waited on the table as well.
“I love you,” he sighed as he sank onto his couch.
Nicky grinned as he took the cup of tea and safely put it on the coffee table next to the orange juice.  “Bene,” he said.  “Because I love you too.”
He kissed Joe’s forehead and Joe cringed inside.  Nicky pulled back with a frown.  “You definitely have a fever.  I want that tea gone before I get back.”
Joe nodded.  “Wait, where are you going?” he asked.
Nicky smiled softly.  “Let me take care of you, Joe.”
Joe lifted his hands.  “Fine, I am at your mercy.”
“Hmmm, maybe once your fever breaks.”
“Hgk.”  Joe choked on his tea.  He coughed, then coughed for real.  “You dick,” he bit out.
Nicky just snorted as he walked away.
Joe’s mind went in and out of focus after that.  He made sure to drink a bit of his tea every time he came back to himself.  Nicky wandered around his apartment and Joe had a hard time keeping track of what he was doing.  Did he leave at one point?  No, he was there.
“Alright,” Nicky said, settling next to Joe on the couch.  “How are you feeling now?”
Joe took stock.  “Hmm, throat is a bit better.  The tea was nice.  Sinuses don’t feel like they’re imploding anymore.  Still achy though.”
Nicky nodded.  “I have a plan, but let’s see how you feel about it.”
Joe nodded.
“I made chicken soup and it should be ready about now.  How about we get to you eat some of that, then get you in the shower, and then we can get you into your clean sheets.  Sound good?” Nicky asked gently.
Joe felt his eyes well up.  “You washed my sheets?”
Nicky chuckled.  “Yes, cuore mio, I washed your sheets.”
“I love you so much,” Joe said, voice choked with emotion.  “That is a wonderful plan.”
The soup was delicious even though Joe could barely taste it.  “You’ll have to make me this again when I’m feeling better, so I can fully appreciate it,” he told Nicky.
The shower was even better than the soup.  Nicky’s fingers felt amazing as he gently washed Joe’s hair and massaged Joe’s scalp, making sure to detangle his curls as he went.  He knew exactly how to take care of Joe’s hair and Joe realized just how much Nicky had paid attention to Joe’s wash routine as he conditioned Joe’s curls.
“Okay, my love.  Body wash time.  You feeling okay?”
“Mmm,” Joe said, feeling loved and cared for under the spray.  “I’m not gonna fall over, if that’s what you mean.”
“Good.  Let me know if that changes.”
Joe felt loved and content as Nicky helped him into his clean pajamas and moved him towards his bedroom.  Nicky had oiled Joe’s curls and dried Joe’s hair just the right way.
Joe loved this man.
“So glad we met,” Joe murmured as Nicky eased him into his bed.  “So glad you got mad at that prof that day.”
“I believe we would have started talking sometime anyway.  Destiny wouldn’t have kept us separate long,” Nicky whispered back, settling next to him.
Nicky leaned in for a kiss and Joe covered his face with his hands.  “Dooooon’t, you’ll get sick too.”
Gently taking hold of Joe’s wrists, Nicky said, “I don't care if you're sick, catching a cold from kissing you is worth it.  Let me in, Joe?”
Joe whined.  He was trying to be a good person here!  Saying stuff like that wasn’t fair in his weakened state.
He let his hands fall.  “Fine, but if you get sick, know that I will feel really bad about it.”
Nicky smiled softly.  “I’m sure you’ll survive the guilt.”
“I guess we’ll see.”
“I guess we will.”
They were both still smiling a bit when their lips came together.  It should have made the kiss awkward, but instead, it made it perfect.
“This was so lovely, Nicolò.  Thank you for taking care of me,” Joe said when they broke apart.
Nicky rested his forehead against Joe and Joe surrendered himself to the fact that this man had absolutely no self-preservation skills when it came to not getting sick.
“You know,” Nicky said thoughtfully, “my lease is done at the end of next month.  We could, maybe, turn this taking care of each other situation into a full-time, face-to-face occasion.”
Joe pulled back to look Nicky full in the face.
“Did you just ask to move in when I look like death warmed over?”
“You,” Nicky said, pulling Joe close, “look very beautiful, even in death, and I would be delighted to live with you, no matter how you look.”
Joe blinked at him uncomprehendingly.
“You are a ridiculous man, a wonderful boyfriend, and I love you very, very deeply,” he finally said.  “Yes, I want to live with you.  Probably for the rest of my life.”
Nicky’s eyes sparkled as he smiled.  “One thing at a time, Yusuf.”
“Come here,” Joe said.  This time, he was the one to pull caution to the wind and kiss Nicky.
Joe took it back.
He was having a wonderful day.

“It is December 23rd, 2018, at 1am and - ” I stopped talking suddenly as I felt another contraction. I squeezed my camera so hard I was sure I was going to break it. When the pain passed, I sighed. “Yeah, as you may have noticed, I’m having contractions, which mean I am in labour! About 40 minutes ago, my water broke, because of course little Hailey wants to come the day before Christmas.”
“She already knows she’s our best gift,” Daniel commented. “The doctor should be here soon, let’s get you in the bath tub.”
I shut off my camera and winced as another contraction came. Daniel took my hand and let me squeeze his as I rode out the contraction. I sighed in relief when it passed.
“They’re getting closer together,” I noted. “And a bit longer.”
“The doctor will be here soon, let’s get you in the tub.”
Daniel helped me shed my clothes and step into the half full bath tub. I rested my back against the back of the tub, wincing as I felt yet another contraction coming. Daniel sat on the edge of the tub, rubbing my neck and shoulders.
“I’m never having a baby again,” I sighed. “It was fun at first, and I’ll be more than happy when the baby comes, but months 7 through 9 sucked, and labour extra sucks.”
Daniel chuckled, running his hands through my hair. “I’ll remember that and try not to get you pregnant ever again.”
I rested my head against his leg and braced myself for the contraction. Daniel stayed by my side the whole time, leaving only for a few seconds to let the doctor in. When the time finally came, Daniel knelt down next to the tub and held my hand as I began to push.
Within a few hours, he was cradling our baby girl in his arms. After regaining myself from the birthing process, I grabbed my video camera and began to vlog.
“It took 12 hours, but there she is,” I said. “Hailey Elizabeth Webber, born December 23rd, 2018, at 1pm.”
“She’s so tiny,” Daniel said as he lovingly gazed at our beautiful daughter. “I can’t believe we made this.”
I giggled as I turned the camera to face him. “He hasn’t let go of her since we dried her off. I have a feeling he’ll never let her go until she’s 18.”
“I’ll certainly tried.”
I turned the camera back to myself. “Daniel was such a rock through the whole night. He massaged my neck and shoulders, played with my hair, tried to keep my mind off of the pain. Throughout the whole pregnancy, in fact, he’s been fantastic. And I have no doubt in my mind he’s going to be a loving, devoted father.”
“Let’s get you out of the tub and to somewhere more comfortable.”
He placed Hailey into her bassinet beside our bed before returning to help me out of the tub. He carried me to our room and helped me dry off and change into pajamas, then helped me to lie back on the bed. I was glad to feel the soft bed beneath me instead of the hard bath tub.
Daniel climbed into bed next to me and I rolled over to cuddle close to him. We both looked over at Hailey, who was peacefully sleeping.
“we made that,” he said, softly.
“We did,” I chuckled, sheepishly. “She’s so beautiful.”
“Just like her mom.” He kissed my forehead. “Go to sleep, babe, you’ve had a hard 12 hours.”
I relaxed into his arms and slowly drifted off to sleep.
~~~~~~
3 Months Later
I looked at Hailey through the rearview mirror. “Are you ready to go see daddy, princess?”
She cooed in response, making me smile. I turned to the camera set up on my dash. “Daniel recently started filming a new movie called Escape from Pretoria. He wanted to push it off for longer so he could spend more time with Hailey and I, but the director didn’t want to push it for much longer since it’s supposed to be released in 2020. He’s bummed to have to work and be away from Hailey, so I’m going to surprise him.”
I decided to vlog the drive, although it was long and not too eventful, but I was sure I could make some form of content from it. When I pulled onto the lot where the movie was being filmed, I spotted Daniel’s car almost immediately and couldn’t help but smile.
I pulled into the spot next to his car and shut the car off. I peered into the mirror again, to see that Hailey had fallen asleep. I wasn't shocked, the car always managed to lull her to sleep. I got her out of the car first, careful not to wake her, before grabbing my camera and locking the car.
The security asked for my ID, and when they realized I was Daniel’s wife, they allowed me to go in. I had been to many sets and filming locations for Daniel’s movies, but it never ceased to take my breath away when I visited a new location. I didn’t know much about the movie that Daniel was filming, as he was very rarely allowed to tell even me about them, but looking at the set gave me a slight gist of it.
“I can’t show too much of the set,” I told my camera, which was facing me and away from anything that could spoil the movie, “for spoiler sake, but I will film Daniel’s reaction. I’m not sure where he is, though.”
As if on cue, Daniel came from a room labeled “hair and makeup”. He was dressed in his costume and had makeup done up that made him look dirty and bloody. I hoped that Hailey wouldn’t get too frightened when she woke up and saw him.
I turned the camera around to catch his reaction, striding right up to him and asking, “Excuse me, sir, do you know where I can find Daniel Webber?”
His eyes widened in shock as he quickly wrapped his arms around me. “What are you guys doing here?”
“I wanted to surprise you,” I told him as I switched my camera off. “And I wanted to show Hailey what her daddy does for a living. But, of course, she fell asleep on the way over.”
“Of course,” Daniel said as he knelt down to look into Hailey’s carrier. “She just got so excited to see daddy that she passed out.”
The fact that there was a baby on set quickly got around and soon enough, the other cast and crew were crowding around Hailey’s carrier to see her. Daniel carefully took her out, making sure not to wake her, so everyone could see her better, and, of course, so he could hold her.
“I might not be able to film today,” he said. “I might just hold her all day. We can work a baby into the script, right?”
“For her, I’d certainly try,” the director said in a slight baby voice. “She’s so precious! I understand wanting to spend as much time with her as possible.”
“Daniel’s been the best father ever to Hailey,” I said, putting a hand on Daniel’s back as I spoke. “When she was first born, he insisted on doing everything until I could walk without being in pain again; he cleaned, he changed her, and me sometimes, he helped me get to and from the bathroom, he’d bring me food in bed. He wouldn’t even let me sit up to get her from her bassinet when it was time to feed her! Now, he gets up all hours of the night when she cries so I can sleep.”
“I never understood the idea that the woman should get up whenever the baby cries in the night,” Daniel said with a shrug. “Unless the baby is breastfeeding, which Hailey isn’t, there’s no reason that the father can’t pull his weight and help out. It’s not fair if the mother is the only one parenting 24/7.”
“You found yourself a good one,” one of the female crew members whispered, causing me to laugh.
“Don’t I know it.”
In that moment, Hailey opened her eyes and looked up at her father. I braced myself for her to start crying, both due to his appearance and to how many people were around, but instead she began to smile and giggle. A chorus of “awe”s rang out as Daniel kissed her little head.
“We can start filming in 10, you spend some time with your wife and daughter,” the director told him as everyone finally managed to pull themselves away from us.
I smiled at Daniel and kissed him. He wrapped an arm around me and held me close to him as we both looked down at our cooing baby girl.
“God, I’ll never grow tired of looking at her cute little face,” he said, tapping Hailey’s nose and causing her to smile. “I’m so happy I have her, and you.”
“I’m happy we have you, too,” I told him as I kissed his cheek.
SWAT!Jay / Upstead AU
A/N: THANK YOU SO MUCH everyone for your lovely comments to my first fic, I’ve been overwhelmed by your positive feedback. That said, it has inspired me to write another one-shot. I will also crosspost these on AO3. Enjoy!
When his wandering eyes land on the front desk, he sees that the desk sergeant is giving him a look. A look that says, "don't you dare give me any trouble". Walking up to the desk, he gives her a friendly smile that slowly but surely morphs into a frown. She's squinting at him, looking him up and down, and granted, it doesn't look great.
With both of their schedules being terribly unpredictable, Hailey and Jay can go a whole week without seeing each other outside of their marital bed, one or the other having to sneak into their home in the middle of the night. So when Jay is given the afternoon off because his commanding officer is planning on adding a new sniper to their rotation and Hailey texts him that they just wrapped the case they have been working on for the last week or so, he decides to pick up his wife from the district.
Stepping inside the big double doors and walking up the front stairs, he takes a look around. You wouldn't really call it a beautiful building, but it sure feels like home. Most districts have been modernized and feel sterile and cold – hell, the SWAT base at Homan Square looks like a rundown storage facility–, but the 21st district has its own personality and you can practically feel the history within its walls. When his wandering eyes land on the front desk, he sees that the desk sergeant is giving him a look. A look that says, "don't you dare give me any trouble".
Walking up to the desk, he gives her a friendly smile that slowly but surely morphs into a frown. She's squinting at him, looking him up and down, and granted, it doesn't look great. Not really thinking about where he was going to go (well, technically, he is on his way home), he had changed into black basketball shorts and a Tool band t-shirt, his baseball cap on backwards. Looking down at his shirt, he realizes he does look like a bit of a tool.
"Can I help you, sir?"
"You must be Sergeant Platt." The minute eye twitch is the only tell that she is surprised he knows her name. She remains visibly unimpressed otherwise – she is wearing a name tag, so that wasn't very hard to figure out.
"Do I know you?"
"No, but I've heard stories about you," he says, conspiratorially leaning in closer.
"Oh is that so?" She narrows her eyes at him. "And who did you hear those stories from?"
"My cell mate at Stateville only had lovely things to say about you." He winks at her. There's that eye twitch again, which Jay counts as a personal victory. Just when he thinks that the woman is going to leap over the desk and/or shoot him, there's a buzzing sound to his right and Hailey is standing at the top of the stairs that go up to Intelligence, looking surprised to see Jay.
"What are you doing here?"
When he sees the sergeant's hand moving towards her hip, Jay throws his hands up. "Hey, babe!" Platt's eyebrows shoot up. His voice comes out slightly higher than usual. "I'm here to pick you up, didn't you see my text?"
Hailey glances between Jay and Trudy, Jay with his hands up and Trudy's hand hovering over her holster, and her eyes widen. "Jay, honey," she says, putting great emphasis on the endearment, "you should've called."
Slowly turning his head from his wife back to the sergeant, Jay carefully lowers his hands while maintaining eye contact, watching Trudy do the same. Ceasefire accomplished. Hailey comes down the rest of the way and goes right up to Jay, standing up on her tiptoes to give him a quick peck on the lips.
"Hey, babe," he repeats, this time softer – definitely less panicky and high-pitched.
"Hey, babe," Hailey parrots and gives him a coy smile, then turns to Trudy. "Trudy, this is my husband Jay." Trudy is still glaring at him, but at least she has taken a mental step back from shooting this man on the spot.
She raises an eyebrow at Hailey. "So Mr. Upton here is quite the comedian, huh?" Hailey in turn raises her eyes at the ceiling, asking whatever deity is willing to listen what the hell her husband has done this time.
"It's Halstead, actually," Jay interjects, "and yeah, it runs in the family, my brother's a total clown." Trudy waits for him to elaborate, but he doesn't.
Hailey rolls her eyes at him, ignoring the last part of his answer. "We were both too stubborn to change our names."
"And there were so many forms." Her husband shakes his head.
Trudy only nods. "Well, I hope you were joking about prison." Jay snorts and Hailey cusses him out under her breath.
"Sorry about that, I couldn't resist." He gives her a bashful smile. "Hailey said you were solid, so no hard feelings, right?" He reaches out his hand and after a second's hesitation Trudy reluctantly shakes it.
"Good to finally meet you, Mr. Halstead," Trudy says while pointedly looking at Hailey.
"Same here." He nudges Hailey in the side. "Shall we?"
"Let me just grab my stuff from upstairs." Hailey hesitates though, seemingly reluctant to leave her husband with Trudy, thinking of the absolutely idiotic things he could and probably would say if left to his own devices.
"Go on then." He shoos her away, then winks at her. "I'll be just fine here with Trudy." Hailey gives him a look telling him to behave himself, then excuses herself and hurries off, trying to give them as little time as possible to rip each others' throats out.
Once the metal gate closes behind Hailey with a clank, Jay leans his elbows on the front desk and gives Trudy a mischievous smile. "So what's the hot goss at the 21st?" Before Trudy is tempted to crack him over the head with the wooden clipboard she is currently holding, a voice next to them startles them both. Not that anyone would've noticed, both of their poker faces immaculate.
"Hey man, what are you doing here?" A patrol officer who has just walked up to the desk is beaming at Jay.
"What's up, buddy?" They shake hands, then Jay points his thumb over his shoulder to the gate that Hailey disappeared through a minute ago. "Just picking up Hails."
The officer hands a bunch of keys over to Trudy, who makes him sign a sheet. "Well, good to see you. I'll see you at the next game?"
"Yeah, man. Say hi to Jenny and the kids for me."
"Will do. See ya, man."
As the two men say their goodbyes, Jay has his back turned to Trudy, who catches a glimpse of the patch on Jay's baseball cap. "SWAT, huh?"
Jay swivels back to Trudy, a confused look on his face. Talk about an unexpected change of topic. At his reaction, Trudy motions at the top of Jay's head, whose mouth forms an 'oh' in realization. He reaches up and turns the visor of the cap to the front, the olive green SWAT patch now on full display. "Oh yeah," he chuckles. "Cat's outta the bag, I guess."
"So it's Officer Halstead, to be correct." It's not even a question, the way Trudy says it.
"Yes, ma'am." And if Jay stands up a little straighter, then that's a total coincidence.
Now that Trudy thinks about it, she does know the man standing before her. Well, knowing him is a bit of a stretch, but a long time ago she heard a story from an old friend of hers at the police academy, how a baby-faced recruit named Halstead tore through basic recruit training like it was a fun day at a children's playground, even showing up the instructors at firearms training. When SWAT got wind of the ex-army sniper, they started grooming him for an assignment with them before he was even out of the academy and even though he still had to go through his probationary period and had to serve three years before he could be officially considered for SWAT. If Trudy remembers correctly, he was occasionally allowed to join SWAT training cycles before he was permanently assigned.
Combining his track record with Hailey's meritorious promotion to detective, they are one hell of a force to reckon with. Trudy is actually impressed. She has to admit that she did misjudge him based on his albeit sloppy attire. Guess you really shouldn't judge a book by its cover.
Before long, Hailey comes bounding down the stairs again, carrying a large gym bag that Jay wordlessly takes from her as soon as she stops next to him, slinging the bright purple bag over his shoulder. "All good?" She skeptically looks between Trudy and Jay.
"Yeah, we're good." Jay smirks. "Right, Trudy?"
Trudy hums. "Quit while you're ahead, Officer Halstead." With that, Trudy goes back to the report she was working on before Jay waltzed into the district.
Glad that no heads started rolling while she was away, Hailey waves goodbye at Trudy before Jay has the chance to make another retort. Jay takes Hailey's hand in his and they walk to the doors.
"Oh, one more thing," Trudy calls after them, not even looking up, "approved."
Hailey frowns at Jay, who is sporting a suspiciously smug grin on his face. He doesn't say anything though, just tries to lead his wife outside. The corner of Trudy's mouth turns up in a half-smile when she watches the younger woman slap her husband's arm and hisses "what!?" at him. The older woman can only wonder what juggling married life between those two elite units looks like, when even she and Mouch barely see each other with their more moderate schedules.
* * * * *
They are driving home in Jay's jeep and heavy metal is blaring over the speakers, but Hailey's detective side needs know what happened. She turns down the volume and turns to Jay who is drumming his fingers on the steering wheel. "What did you say to her?" Hailey looks at her husband, who still has the biggest grin on his face.
"Nothing, I swear."
"Did you bribe her!?" Hailey exclaims.
"What!?"
"What did she mean 'approved'? You made some deal with her?" Jay just bursts out laughing. "This isn't funny! Sergeant Trudy Platt doesn't just say 'approved'."
He purses his lips, trying to suppress his laugh. "She figured out I was SWAT, but she didn't really say anything else and then you were back already."
"That's it?"
"Yeah, you're still the only one with the childhood connection to her…" He pauses, then scrunches up his nose. "Unless I missed something." Hailey swears her husband isn't usually this obtuse.
"Alright, fine," she huffs.
When they stop at a red light, he turns to her, his expression solemn. "Babe." He lays his hand on her knee and rubs his thumb over it. "You're cute when you freak out."
"Shut up." Jay's grin is back at full force and Hailey can't help but grin back. He leans over to kiss her on the cheek before the light turns green.
"I'll try to be less embarrassing next time," he promises, then adds, "love you."
Hailey takes the hand on her knee and entwines their fingers. "Love you, too."
