A message to everyone
-Wear that cosplay/kandi/collar/fursuit/etc.
-Use those neopronouns
-Ship those characters
-Talk about those fandoms
-Indulge in your interests
-But most importantly, don’t make fun of people for the same thing, don’t make fun of people for stuff that isn’t hurting anyone period

Return of Furrlough
Just learned that Furrlough will be back, published by Antarctic Press, like it was when it was first published in the early 1990s. That news really made my day!

I know I'm striking while the iron is cold, but it's something my train of thought keeps coming back to.
Turning Red is about puberty and "Coming of Age'. Yes. but stories can have multiple meanings. and there's a reason that I had such a strong connection to the movie, even though I'm a cis man.
There are 2 things that happen to Mei Mei, and at first they seem unrelated.
First, Mei is doing some homework, when she gets bored, and starts doodling. She gets a bit too into her doodle of a sexy merman, and fills up a bunch of pages, full of sexy doodles. she tries to hide them, but her mom finds them, and freaks out.
Second, Mei turnes into a giant red panda. She just wakes up the next morning as a panda. She sees herself as some sort of freak. She realizes that she can mostly turn back to her old self if she calms down, albeit with red hair. But if she loses her cool and gets too excited, she turns back into a panda.
Her friends find out, and they don't see her as a freak. They think she's really cool and cute as a panda. She realizes that she can turn into a panda at will, she just has to think about sexy mermen.
Soon other kids at her school find out that she can shapeshift, but instead of making fun of her, they love seeing her. they are willing to pay money just to see the panda. Mei and her friends even charge people for red panda merchandise.
She even realizes that she can shapeshift half way, taking on a form where she looks like a human, but with panda ears, panda paws, and a panda tail.
This was the point where I was absolutely certain that one of the writers who worked on this was a furry. I don't mean this in any derogatory way.
Imagine a highschooler who's like Mei, drawing pervy drawings of mermen. she doesn't want her mom to find out she draws this smut. she kinda hates herself for doing it. but then her friends find out, and they LOVE it. she starts drawing her own fursona, getting it on with mermen.
Other kids at the school are willing to pay for these drawings, but the artist is terrified of her parents finding out.
This is just... what it's like for furries. especially in the specific time that this movie takes place.
The movie never sexualizes Mei (Which I'm very thankful for) but the whole merman thing shows that she's begining that part of her life. and she's not really prepared for it. She feels so much shame in what's just a natural thing for her family.
I'm a grown ass adult and I've never told my parents (or any member of my family) that I'm a furry. I probably never will. but when I watched "Turning Red" I really felt seen.
Furries usually only interact with eachother in a sexual way, at least in my experience, but this movie was like... a sleeper furry movie. if you know, you know. I think we need more shows or movies like this.

cringe culture is dead, you have xenogenders? me too! you're a therian? same! you're a furry? same here! do you identify as non-human and or alterhuman? cool me as well! do you use neopronouns and or xenopronouns? we're the same! do you have a typing quirk and use "cringy" words? that's cool and same! do you have a unique style(scene, emo, harajuku, goth, gyaru, etc)? that's really cool! do you still watch cartoons, play with toys and still play the same games that you grew up with? because me too! you make "cringy" self-insert fanfics? that's fine! as long as what you're doing doesn't hurt you or anyone it's perfectly fine! be yourself, screw assholes <3 /gen
