Lore Rekindled; The Lore Olympus that should have been
To be honest, I checked out the rekindled version before the original one and now having reading the original as well, it's extremely odd. Y'know goodbye volcanic high where the original was a mess but a group of 4chaners made a parody game which turned out to be of better quality than the original? This is like that but replace 4chan with tumblr users, mainly @genericpuff whose series is pinned in their tumblr blog where you can check all of the episodes, especially updated ones. In this post, I will be praising this series of how it fixes the problems of the original
The Pacing
One thing I notice about lore olympus and lore rekindled is the pacing. Not just the flow of the story but where it chooses to focus on. Now in lore olympus, the pacing is kinda a mess and its mainly to do with what it focuses on. An example is the magazine plotpoint; in the original, its basically kinda there in between doses to focus on other stuff like persephone and hades together, persephone's sa (i'll get to that later), eros story, zeus and hera etc...The flow generally isnt that bad per say (except for persephone's sa cuz that was way too quick) but for a story meant to be a romance between hades and persephone, you'd think it idk, it would focus on persephone and hades specifically, not eros which is another example of; its flashbacks. Eros specifically has such a dragged out flashback in episode 12 which we didnt need or at least with that much exposition when it should've naturally expand in the story and that's what rekindled does. The magazine plotline has turned into the first conflict of persephone and hades as we see how it affects their lives and relationships. This works for its pacing better because it doesn't give you too much stuff to jumble with, making the narrative more concise and easier to understand where the story is going. And with the flashbacks, rekindled cuts out the fat in the flashbacks from the original to a perfect balance where it gives exposition of the characters while also leaving mystery for the audience to be intrigued, my favourite one would have to be this (though it more of a nightmare than a flashback specifically speaking);
It's of persephone in a greenhouse her mother placed her in with this red eye thing following her from outside the greenhouse. I have no idea of this lurker if its her metaphorical rage or a danger in her life but either way, i am intrigued by its presentation.
The Characters
When reading lore rekindled and lore olympus, the characters are definetly an odd experience. For lore olympus, the characters arent exactly uh....great per say. I think the main reason for this is how their ultilised, with characters like eros, hera, hectate etc being there to mostly be a matchmaker for hades and persephone even if it was initially seen as wrong like with hera and hectate, be antagonistic as a way to have conflict between hades and persephone like minthe, demeter and recently leuce even if ones had reasons too like minthe with hades emotionally cheating on her and demeter because lets be honest, she had a point. Then there's hades and persephone, whoo boy where to start with them.
Hades starts off as a creep eyeing at persephone during a party, specifically at her body and still lusts persephone even being aware that shes 19 and he's 2000 years old. Also is a shitty boss, father AND contributes to slavery with it while being adressed in some way, doesnt change him which isnt good for a character that's meant to be the main protagonists love interest.
Persephone though, I can get the self insert vibes. From favouritism towards the story, being who most of the men in the story are attracted too, portrayed as a 'cinnamon roll' (they actually said that early on in the story, im not kidding) who cant do no wrong. She acts like a teenager rather than a young adult which makes the scenes where shes sexualised just more uncomfortable (and they already unnecessarily were) along with adding that uncomfortability to the romance
But with rekindled, they expanded on the characters much more than they originally were. Persephone for instance has turned from a 'sexy baby' legal teenager to an actual young relatable adult with agency and allows her to screw up (e.g, getting drunk on her own rather than eros drunking her). Her adult attitude makes the romance between her and hades not only more palpable, but also strays away from the infantilisation/uncomfortable sexualisation of her character which is nice to see. Hades also is written well in the series from how it acknowledges his faults while still making him likable. And thats the same for every character really, their personalities are much more fleshed out and nuanced which makes their characters feel real to life, gaining effectiveness for more emotional scenes with them. An interesting thing too is that they even expanded the magazine guy's character from making fake news for profit into feeling guilt over what they done, standing up for persephone which is a pretty nice change.
No Sa Plotline
Not like you cant have sa in your story ever but if you never planned it from the beginning and only did when people tell you that the scene you drew from your comic was sa then....maybe just not do it. Lore olympus does exactly that where while an attempt was made, it goes on to retcon it into making apollo (the guy who sa'd persephone) into a lesser evil like that would made a difference instead of just cutting it out from the very beginning. Lore rekindled thankfully just made apollo into his pilot version, a shitty bf but more likeable and expanded upon (which should have been his portrayal from day 1). His shittiness doesnt come up in the story, more like self absorbness/egotisticalness although with its recent chapter of the magazine guy offering persephone lunch, it might reveal some cracks or at least further down the story it will be revealed to us which futhers how effective rekindled character writing is in how its expansion of characters would give us the feels. That or portray him as not a good match for persephone, either way much better than the original.
Artstyle
Lore olympus has a pretty good artstyle (at least in s1/the early episodes, s3 is just kinda goofy) but lore rekindled has got a good artstyle which is on top, more consistent too. Here's some examples;

All in all, if you want to read lore olympus, i recommend you to read the lore rekindled one instead as it's better in every way. Give it a read.

When I tell you I read this I saw it and I WHEEZED I was in TEARS and I shouldn’t be bothered arguing about it but quite frankly I’m trying to procrastinate anyway and I’ve had a god awful week and need to take out my frustrations somehow, ergo, I’m going be petty not because this person disagrees with my reading of the novel, but because they implied that in reading queer or neurodivergent elements in a work, people “can’t see the important themes that the novel is about” which actually does piss me off a fair bit
Right so first before we argue we’ve got to decipher because English apparently isn’t this person’s forte for someone who is, apparently, such an avid reader and esteemed critic of English literature. Also I just realised I haven’t really provided any context here so apologies this was in response to that joke post I made about mischaracterising Frankenstein adaptations (again yes the pettiness is not lost on me but I’m embracing it anyway)
“He is not gay nor autistic” cheers this person disagrees that Victor Frankenstein is either gay or autistic. To each their own. Wonder what kind of backup they’ll have for that argument.
“Pls stop seen representation of us everyone bc u can’t make the difference,” Right so this is where we get confusing, I’m going to take a wild guess and I think they’re trying to say “please stop seeing representation of us everywhere because you can’t make the difference”, and I still don’t know what “make the difference” means, but we’ll go with it.
“read nothing new”, alright so they’re saying people who see representation everywhere read nothing new, and then the kicker that’s kind of the only reason I decided to respond to this anyway, “nor really see the important themes that the novel is about.”
First off, “stop seeing representation of us everywhere”, let it be known that as I make a hundred jokes about Victor Frankenstein being homosexual, I myself am thoroughly through and through without a doubt bisexual as the days are long. Absolutely love men. Also adore women equally. So no, I am not a Disney corporate executive trying to squeeze in as many queers as possible for the entire purpose of using the fact they have representation in media to excuse the fact it’s a shite film but also, not trying to revisit every old piece of media to squeeze representation where it doesn’t really fit or make sense just for shits and giggles. (Also just saying, you made this comment on Tumblr. So even if I was just going haywire with lgbt headcanons on my favourite media with no real backup, who gives a shit? Who actually gives a flying fuck? I don’t. Let people live, man. It doesn’t mean they don’t understand the source material just because they’re having fun and playing loose with it. It’s Tumblr, not a Netflix adaptation. Let people do whatever they want and have fun with it. It’s cool.)
But like I said, I do have backup and a lot of it so let’s get into that, shall we?
First of all, whoo, autism. I’ll be real not really a hill I’m going to die on but the wording you put of “he is not autistic” is just ridiculous because yeah, no, there is a lot of perfectly decent ground to read Victor Frankenstein as autistic and a lot of people do, mostly people who are autistic or otherwise neurodivergent themselves. Just because in the 18th century people didn’t necessarily have the language for things doesn’t mean they didn’t exist, and I mean, now we do. So what’s the harm in using it? They had their own language for things back then, do we have to revert back to speaking in early 19th century English every time we want to refer to a character who was written back then as neurodivergent or lgbt or anything else?? What’s the point in that??
But yeah, Victor Frankenstein. I can’t even be bothered to explain and to be honest every single other person I’ve said “Frankenstein is autistic to” has immediately responded “oh yeah, obviously”, even my father who famously is just hypercritical of all sorts of headcanons just went “oh yeah no for sure the man is definitely autistic no doubt about it”. So instead I’m just going to include some quotes.
My temper was sometimes violent, and my passions vehement; but by some law in my temperature they were turned not towards childish pursuits but to an eager desire to learn, and not to learn all things indiscriminately.
It was my temper to avoid a crowd and to attach myself fervently to a few. I was indifferent, therefore, to my school-fellows in general; but I united myself in the bonds of the closest friendship to one among them.
From this day natural philosophy, and particularly chemistry, in the most comprehensive sense of the term, became nearly my sole occupation.
Two years passed in this manner, during which I paid no visit to Geneva, but was engaged, heart and soul, in the pursuit of some discoveries which I hoped to make. None but those who have experienced them can conceive of the enticements of science. In other studies you go as far as others have gone before you, and there is nothing more to know; but in a scientific pursuit there is continual food for discovery and wonder.
Like I said, self explanatory. It’s harder to come up with an argument for why he isn’t autistic than why he is, and frankly, what’s the harm in reading him that way? It doesn’t really change anything about the plot or themes, and his character doesn’t change. It’s just a very probable diagnosis for said qualities. It doesn’t change them, whether you use that word or not. The concept of autism was coined in 1911 anyway, so its not like Mary Shelley’s going to be sat at her writing desk in 1817 writing in big bold letters “BY THE WAY, FRANKENSTEIN HAD AN AUTISM DIAGNOSIS.” It doesn’t change the fact that people still had autism back then, just because the term wasn’t discovered yet. Anyway.
Now, second bit. “He isn’t gay” – now, if you read Frankenstein and thought “ah yes, this man seems perfectly heterosexual to me”, then honestly, sure. Go ahead. But to say that reading Victor Frankenstein as queer in any way means that people “don’t understand the important themes of the novel” is completely bloody ridiculous because, again, there is astronomical ground to read him that way.
Victor Frankenstein never really shows interest in any women in the novel, except for Elizabeth, who he has been raised, since he was five years old, to see as his “gift” and was told by his mother since he was a very young child that he was going to marry her – to the point where his mother, on her deathbed, tells both Victor and Liz: “My firmest hopes of future happiness were placed on the prospect of your union. This expectation will now be the consolation of your father.” Also, they’re cousins/adopted siblings. If you don’t think that’s fucked up, even by the standards of the time, I’m not really sure what to say to you. Of course he married her. And before he married her, he generally expresses very little romantic interest in her bar just expressing as much affection as you would a close friend or sister, or seeing her as his “gift” who he “has to be wed to”. Read any other story from this time period, in this genre, and you will not be remotely questioning whether they’re actually attracted to each-other or not. In fact, here’s an excerpt from The Vampyre, another book born from the same trip to Geneva that Frankenstein was, by John William Polidori, about the protagonist’s love interest:
And that’s only part of it. So. Yeah. Victor’s lack of romantic affection for Elizabeth is not “a product of its time” nor “a product of its genre.” And The Vampyre is a short story.
And so you may be saying, “well, just because Victor doesn’t show any interest in women doesn’t necessarily make him gay”, and yeah, true that (ace and bi Vic hcs y’all are valid) but there is very good basis to take the reading that he is attracted to men.
For one thing, just the fact that he’s so particular about creating “the perfect man” is subject to a lot of queer readings in itself, but let’s be real here, you all know me enough by now to know that I just want an excuse to rant about Clerval and Frankenstein. And rant about them I shall.
First, I’m lazy, so here’s an excerpt from one of my previous essays I’ve written that I’ve never posted everywhere on Frankenstein in general:
Just as The Creature is Victor’s narrative foil, so is Clerval. He's equally ambitious and fascinated with the secrets of life, however he’s healthy with how he goes about it and healthy with how he keeps the balance between taking care of himself and pursuing his dreams, while Victor goes over the edge and neglects himself and his sense of morality to complete what he set out to do. He's supposed to represent the ideals of gothic romanticism in Victor and he's supposed to be his anchor and support, (something the Creature doesn't have), caring for Victor during his illness, (“reanimating” him, almost, once again showing that comparison between both Victor and Henry, as Henry “reanimates” Victor with compassion and cares for him after, and Victor reanimates The Creature in a haze of obsession and mania and immediately abandons him, showing what Victor could have been), and constantly accompanying and being sympathetic and empathetic towards him. I also find it very interesting how he does also seem to have those darker aspects to him, lying to Victor’s family about the extent of his illness and caring for Victor in his apartment despite the fact that, for all he knew, from the evidence lying around his workspace and Victor’s feverish rambling, he very well could have murdered someone, and Clerval chooses not to press him on the issue and instead to intentionally help Victor cover it up. The fact that Clerval exhibits these traits only makes Victor’s own downfall all the more tragic when we consider that it likely very much isn’t a stretch to imagine that Clerval, too, likely exhibits a lot of the same morbid curiosity as Victor; he isn’t a superhuman figure with purely positive attributes who is completely far removed from Victor’s situation, the only difference is that Clerval chooses to prioritise his own sense of morality over his selfish aims, which only emphasises the point that Victor’s downfall is, ultimately, Victor’s own fault. When Victor "kills" the Creature’s chance of the same support and love (his unfinished bride), the Creature kills Henry and sends Victor into a downward spiral of suicidal thoughts and heavy depression because the character that represented that stability, that romanticism, that balance of keeping healthy, is dead, and that throws Victor downward into his inevitable obsession with the monster's destruction and his own death.
On this point, I feel like it’s worth bringing up that a reasonably good case could probably be made regarding a lot of queer subtext in the novel, although I won’t rant about it excessively as it obviously isn’t the focus, the theme of love is a very prominent theme as I’ve previously mentioned with The Creature; familial love, platonic love, parental love, romantic love, and I don’t think it’s particularly much of stretch to suggest that Shelley, intentionally or unintentionally, might have added a lot more romantic subtext than given credit for. Not that it matters particularly narratively speaking what kind of love is portrayed, but in reference specifically to Clerval and the Ingolstadt chapters there’s a very good argument to be made regarding Shelley’s poor relationship with her own husband and how she may have projected a lot of her wish for that kind of care and sympathy into his character, perhaps not taking into account, or perhaps she did, how it would come across – author intentions are mostly lost with time and we’ll ultimately never know for sure, but even for the standards of the late 18th century when the novel was set and the early 19th century when it was written, “I desire the company of a man who could sympathise with me, whose eyes would reply to mine. You may deem me romantic,” and “your form so divinely wrought, and beaming with beauty, has decayed, but your spirit still visits and consoles your unhappy friend,” probably weren’t standard platonic sentiments.
And honestly on that essay excerpt, that still sums my thoughts on that subject up pretty much perfectly. After all, a character in a book talking about his best friend going “I loved him with a mixture of reverence and affection that knew no bounds” as well said best friend tenderly nursing him back to health, and the character talking about how his body is “divinely wrought and beaming with beauty” and gently pressing his hand and referring to him constantly as “my dearest”, “my dear” and “my beloved”, while living together and travelling together and talking about how his voice “soothes” him and “cheats (him) into a transitory peace”, pretty gay!
And yes, before anyone says a single thing, if it wasn’t already obvious from the essay excerpt, I do understand “the important themes the novel is about”. I do understand that there are more themes and characters and subject matter, and more than that, I bloody love it! Because this is one of my favourite novels! Of-fucking-course I’m invested in it on a deeper level than “ooOoooh what classical literature characters can I RUIN with my gay agenda today!” But you commented this on a joke post, a joke post, again, on Tumblr. No harm but Jesus Christ if there is a singular platform I can go on and just post stupid bullshit about two book characters from 200 years ago being soft and gay without having to justify that yes, I did in fact read the book, and shock horror yes, I do know that there are other themes, it’s bloody Tumblr. (Absolutely love you lot btw especially all my lovely fantastic incredible mutuals all your takes and readings and art is 👌✨ chef’s kiss)

And to be honest if I had to say any take or reading was a misunderstanding of the text, it’d be that one (as well as “Victor is sexist for cutting women out of the creation process” takes – Christ that’s just gross. And feels mildly if not explicitly homophobic.)
So just for shits and giggles to counter that argument, here’s another excerpt from the same older essay as before:
Speaking of Hugo, it is rather interesting how many adaptations and literary criticisms seem to go down the route of the Hunchback of Notre Dame moral of “who is the monster and who is the man?”, suggesting that Victor is the “true monster” of the narrative. And, as much as I am a decent Victor Hugo fan, (I’m over 50% through Les Misérables, have you seen the size of that book? I’d have to be), in reality the point of the story is that neither Creator nor Creation are more monster nor man than the other – Victor mutilates corpses and brings the creature to life, and allows Justine to be executed without owning up to his actions, and The Creature murders a child and a multitude of other innocent people, Clerval and Elizabeth who had nothing to do with anything and Ernest left completely alone with his entire family dead. We can’t acknowledge The Creature’s sympathetic qualities without also acknowledging Victor’s, and regardless, sympathetic motivations don’t make up for immoral actions.

3. What’s your phone lock screen? My lock screen is gray trees, as a reference to Folklore by Taylor Swift
4. Do I have pierces/tattoos? I have my first piercing on my ear but that’s all. I want to get some tattoos though I just don’t have anything meaningful enough yet. Me and my girlfriend will probably get something matching eventually.

Books and bookish things, fandom related things, frog related things (I have lots of things I have either made or found that are frogs I love them AND MUSHROOMS. I’m very cottagecore), crystals, vinyls, candles, bath and body works perfumes and other things, stickers, thrifted paintings, used to collect pokémon, and jewelry!

Whoo-hee, I have an Ask! (To be fair, I've HAD an Ask for several days, but this is the first I've gotten on my computer proper to answer it).
So let's see.

I'm going to give this one to @non-plutonian-druid, who not only posts delightful fan art, they also post delightful fan art in even more delightful crossovers, which is just very fun.
16. a tiny detail in canon that you want more people to appreciate:
Ah. Hmm. Which canon even? Oh you know what, I'm going to be obnoxious and say, if you pay attention in TUA you'll NOTICE that Five totally reacts differently to Viktor than to everyone else. He smiles more. He's less insulting. There's this scene in S3 where he goes "I hate to say I told you so" and Viktor shoots back "You LOVE to say I told you so," and Five just smiles and nods! You CANNOT tell me he wouldn't have a snappy comeback if ANYONE ELSE had dared! So I know I can't convince anyone to ship them but you DO SEE they have a DIFFERENT relationship from the others, right? :P
24. how has fandom positively impacted your life?
Well. I have been writing stories since I learned how to write, and making them up for longer, but after my first child was born it was like everything shut off. I was so tired! I had no more free time! How could I take time out of my busy day to write when I could be using that time to, Idaknow, sleep? Before I could get into the habit again I started doing collection development for the library, and it was like, do you have any idea how many books are published in a year? And it's really important for more diverse voices to be uplifted. So like why do I, a white (basically-)straight mainstream-Christian (relatively-)able-bodied (not neurotypical, but come on, Anne of Green Gables was published in 1908 and she's the most perfect female-with-ADHD character ever, so it's not like THAT one's lacking) ciswoman even need to write a book? Who cares? Yes, I am aware this is a lie ones brain tells to be obnoxious, but it still made it impossible for me to actually carve out time to write when who cares?
The first step in me getting past this was the writing prompt that became "The Pipeweed Mafia Epic," which was, technically, fanfiction. It gave me permission to just HAVE FUN with writing, without thought to whether the story is Needed or if anyone's going to read it at all. Some of the only other stories I managed to get out for the next few years were ALSO fanfics. But it was infrequent, and I didn't share them. AND THEN, here on Tumblr, I saw a post for a Legion FX fic exchange and I said, "You know, I think I can do that. I should take the chance!" So I did, and ended up writing not just my assignment but also a little fic that popped into my head just in the process of me deciding what I wanted to ask for! And now I had an AO3 account, which meant I suddenly had an outlet when I saw a movie that desperately required some rethinking! And suddenly I was waking up to emails that said "You've Got Kudos!" and THAT'S a hit of dopamine, so it suddenly became so much easier to just get an idea for a silly little story I could stick on AO3 and maybe get a "You've Got Kudos!" message the next day!
So long story short, fandom helped me get WRITING again. I'm still not sure when I'll ever get back to ORIGINAL fiction, but at least the storytelling itch in my brain has an outlet!

RE: Antis... Honestly? I don't think I really entertain Antis that much these days tbh. NOT like how I was back in 2020 lol. 😅 I've always tried to create my blog as being one that is open to a variety of opinions though, and sometimes even if someone's opinion is different, it doesn't always necessary mean that person is an "Anti".
Second, I'll just be honest... (You all know that I am always 100% HONEST on here and don't mince words 😅) Sometimes it's just fun/funny to make fun of them or clapback lol. 🤣 It also makes the blog a bit more interesting to me tbh lol. Juuuuust being honest! The nonsense that they send in (which, I don't even post the HALF of it tbh) is just so ridiculous sometimes, that I have to laugh out loud at some of the nonsense lol. They seriously make me laugh. You kind of have to feel sorry for ppl like that who are in such denial and such hate in their lives smh. 🤣

RE: The "Ex" Talk.... Some of you also expressed displeasure with me talking about Tom and Zendaya's exes on my blog. Okay... Can I just say??? I always feel like this area is a very very FINE line. 👀 Because, on one hand, there might be some newbies to my blog, or to shipping Tomdaya just in general, and they might have a few questions re: the exes. (Understandable)
There are also others who might just be curious about the rlshps that TZ had in the past, etc. (Understandable)
But then there are the very OBVIOUS ones who are either "Antis in Disguise" 🙄, or those who just want to cast doubt on Tomdaya or resurrect old ex talk for no good reason other than to start trouble.
Overall though, I feel like I typically don't talk TOO much about the exes (unless I'm dragging JE Lol 😅), but overall, I don't think I really talk about them much? 🤷I don't think ex talk is the sole focus of my blog in other words. I might link someone to some of my previous posts in order to "catch them up" to speed on some things, but usually I don't think I'm talking much about Olivia, Elle, etc. I also usually try to cut out the Nadia talk... One, because she's long-since been a non-factor, and TWO, because she seems like she was somewhat traumatized by that Tadia breakup 👀, and so honestly I think she should just be left alone. 🤷
With that said however....No offense, but I feel like SOME shippers feel so sensitive about the ex talk sometimes... But these people are still alive, they do exist, and it's just a fact that they used to be in Tom and Zendaya's lives no matter how much ppl don't want it to be true, and I don't think it's a sin to mention them from time to time if ppl have valid questions/asks about them?🤷
A perfect example was when one Anon mentioned last week that Elle (Tom's ex) had worked on Stormzy's music video. It was just a simple comment by an Anon. I didn't even know that Elle had directed (I guess?) his music video. But some got all upset in my inbox for Elle's name being mentioned. That's a bit harsh, don't you think? 🥴🥴

RE: Not Responding Back to Asks/Not Being On Tumblr As Often... Okay... again I feel like I have to explain myself here lol.... 😅 First of all, I apologize to anyone who has ever felt "ignored" by me not responding to their asks.
Honestly? Sometimes I'm just so BUSY these days that I don't have as much time to be on here as often. Schooling (esp THIS semester) has been a lot of WORK. I also just started a new job and I'm learning so many new things (which is great!), but it's a LOT to take in. Also, I can't be on Tumblr throughout the day AS much as I could in my old job unfortunately lol. My old job was really gravy lol (I'll be honest), but now I have way more responsibilities and more things to handle, so I am just way more BUSY now!
Also, sometimes I might respond to an ask because either: Your ask is basically saying the same exact thing that someone else said, your ask might be too negative, your ask might be going into a topic/territory that I don't want to go into atm because it will either bring a bunch of haters/antis or argumentative debates back and forth in my inbox/blog and I don't like too much drama, we've long-since moved on from the topic or discussed it ad nauseam, also sometimes I don't even SEE asks because I get so many!
I think some people don't realize just how much WORK goes into running a blog lol. I didn't realize it either until I started doing it myself. It's way more work too when you're actually answering asks. I'm just saying. 👀
I like to be interactive with my Anons and Followers (to me, blogging is just more fun that way?) but it does take a LOT of work.
With that said.... I can't promise that I will answer more asks lol (I honestly probably shouldn't be on here as much as I am tbh lol. 😅), but if you DO have something you just need me to see, either DM me about it, or send in the ask again and say: "Hey, I asked you about x, y, z, but you probably didn't see it, so I'm sending it again..." ... That will alert me that you've already sent in a msg that I missed and I will try to get back to you.
I'm sorry if I'm not as "active" as some of you would like me to be (I thought I was being OVERLY active tbh lol), but I do have a life! 😅 I'm sorry! I wish I could be more "active" on the blog, but my life has become way more busy. It's part of "adulting" I guess lol.
So I can't change how active I am, or post everyone's asks, but I'll try to do better in the future. 😔

New to everything, the good and bad
First post! New to tumblr! New university in 3 weeks.
So many changes in my life at the moment, I felt like i needed a space to share my thoughts. Tumblr it is. I've been on this site for years. But I've never had the courage to actually write something.
Maybe I'll keep this little blog up and going, probably I'll abandon it in 4 weeks.
I'm feeling a lot of anxiety due to changes lately. I feel like my relationship is going rocky. My relationship with my parents is rocky. My friends and I are having some difficulties with keeping in contact. It's so bad I started running. RUNNING. I HATE running. However, I've come to find that the feeling i get from listening to Fiona apple while running for me is the equivelent to punching holes in walls for men.
I'm going to a festival in a few days. I've never been to one and I feel helpless and unprepared. After 4 days of drinking there, 6 days of drinking will follow during my introduction week. The introduction week is a week of festivities where you meet other people who will follow the same study as you the week after. So excited. I can't wait to party and dance and meet new people. But of course, irrational fears and stupid thoughts do rise. Will they like me? Is this my only chance of friendship? Do I act different and start a whole new life in a different city and abandon everyone I know to fully commit to my alter ego? The usual. Luckily I'm still more excited than scared. The pros outweigh the cons.
In three weeks i'm starting uni. I'll be a philosophy major (whoo! MORE to think about). I'm kind of hoping the study will help me rationalize my thoughts. I can't wait for the classes. They all seem super interesting.
Change feels like a double-edged sword to me. Exciting new stuff to try in exciting new environments. Also, terrible fear and constant pondering about failing and dying alone. We'll see!
I'm also new to writing.

so exactly 1 year ago today i thought hmmm it’s the perfect time of year (with halloween just like a week away) to start rewatching supernatural and finally finish s14 and 15…….i had been a little bit obsessed with spn in the past but whoo boy i had NO IDEA what i was getting myself into this time around. i had no idea that i would finish it in two months and then when i was finished there would be this aching emptiness inside of me, like what am i supposed to do now??? i just wanted to keep living in this world, you know? and then i ended up on pinterest searching and saving thousands of supernatural pins. and then i would see this one(of course of a tumblr post) and think hmmm that actually sounds really interesting?? (i always had thought fanfiction was all just bad writing..not as good as real books)
so the first week of january i started reading it and wait it was really really good? and suddenly i found myself back on tumblr and i was looking for MORE fanfic to read and suddenly i was reading every fanfic i could find that sounded good and posting on tumblr again and following every spnblr that i came across and somehow it snowballed a bit and i was making friends?? like i had been on tumblr since 2012 but i’d never reeeeally gotten into it like this before…i’d never made friends here before. and the past year has been really, really great.
anyway this is just my super long winded way of saying that a year ago today i made a decision that brought me here to all of you and i am so, so happy that it did. i am so thankful to spn for being the story that would wrap me up so completely and characters who i care about so deeply, to the fanfiction writers for giving me the epic love story that the show was too afraid to commit to, and to all of you for being so much more than just a bunch of blogs that i follow or who follow me on tumblr dot com💜💜💜

five and half weeks after dislocating my wrist and I can finally, finally actually type again. I still have to take it slow and not over-do things, but guh, what a relief.
dislocations are pretty common for me, with the HMS/EDS genetic nonsense going on, but every now and then I find a way to dislocate a joint that I hadn’t previously dislocated, and the first time is always the worst. that’s what happened with my right wrist in mid April -- overtaxed myself by playing too much Minecraft on a Tuesday, minor injury to my shoulder the next day, then massive horrific dislocation on Thursday.
it’s been all ice packs and anti-inflammatory meds and trying to rest it for five and a half weeks. I have watched so much YouTube and marathoned so many tv shows, and tried to restrict myself from mouse and keyboard and touchscreen use -- and also things like eating with my dominant hand, or brushing my hair with that hand. it’s obnoxious.
it definitely isn’t done healing yet either, and I still have pain at certain angles and doing certain tasks (especially anything involving pinching). but I spent the first week or so trying to get it back to full (hypermobile) range of motion, so that it didn’t heal in a stiff position, like that same wrist did when I injured it in high school. that time wasn’t a dislocation, but it still took me ~10 months to fully heal, and then another three or four years before I had my normal range of motion back.
I’m going to keep my Tumblr queue at its current low level of 10 posts a day, with my queue stocked up for several weeks at least, and I still likely won’t be around much -- typing is far easier on my hands than scrolling, at the moment. but I’m hoping that now that I can use my laptop again, I can maybe start actually writing again, too.
it’s been nearly a year and a half since I last updated For As Long As We Get and whoo am I feeling it. I’ve started poking at the next part, currently titled Forest For The Trees. I’m re-doing the whole episode, like I did with Honeymoon on the Orient Express and First Christmas, so I expect it’ll end up being similarly oversized like both of those are, and may in fact end up having chapters. it’s currently sitting at just over 7400 words, and easily more than half of it still left to write. so it’ll be awhile before it’s actually finished, but I’m hoping I can start making slow progress on it again.
and with that, I really should go rest my wrist.

But scar???? Telling off the entire elven court in front of them and getting free because of Cleo??? I love it. Brave man, he deserves the world. I cant wait to meet cleo tbh, at least i hope we do. BUT ALSO to be FAIR to him, he knows absolutely no one who has ever been in an arranged marriage, his cousins are between 5 and 200 years older (the King is his great great great grandfather lmao there's a lot of gens there and long lived species whoo) than him and only a handful of them are married to people they chose so poor thing literally looked at this situation like "Grandfather wouldn't invite just anyone to the Palace especially when he's so overprotective... I'm sure that doesn't mean anything for me specifically" lmao
But like. For him it wouldn't have been that BAD if they had just TOLD him, because if he had known from the start he'd have seen it as him and Cub making the best of an unfair situation, but because he was never told until the engagement day every Moment(tm) between them felt like a LIE which </3 Hurts so bad-

Cleo really had this little knobby teenager come to them with an engagement piece in his hair and break down about how his entire life has been a lie and everyone he thought loved him was just using him and said "This is not happening. Nope, not happening. Run, kid" Cleo is my absolute beloved <3 I love them. Now I wonder why Scar is so hesitant to meet up with them...
:) Haha we definitely haven't seen the last of the Fae King. Unfortunately for Grian and Mumbo, if there is ever an OP character in this series, uh, it's definitely the Fae King. (Not OP enough to save Scar tho </3 rip) And meeting him might not be under the best circumstances... :) I wonder how that will be resolved, huh. I hope everyone understands Unreliable Narrator tag means Everything Is Not What It Seems while also not assuming it means the King isn't an ass at the same time

Visbreak Ramble #1 - Desert Duo Special
*cough* My first post other than that starter, whoo!
Visbreak is my AU written in AO3 (also crossposted on Wattpad, soon might be on Tumblr and Quora), and boy oh boy do I have a lot to talk about. Recommend you read the main fic first to understand a few terms, but it's not a must.
I tend to overthink a lot, and because I for some reason decided that Marvel's a thing here, Scar's (and several others, but he's the most obvious) hero alias is really affected by this. Context; it's Hawkeye. And... that's not gonna end well for him if he uses it for commercials and his own merch due to the trademark that Marvel has, so guess what name he uses?
HotGuy.
Legally, his hero alias was always Hawkeye, and due to some legal loopholes, it's actually possible to have a trademarked name as one. But because he's often put in the limelight as 'HotGuy', it resulted it that alias being used more often than his actual alias. Whoops.
Inspired by @applestruda's Hawk Hotguy post, I went on and said to myself, "Whoa, that's a cool idea", and promptly decided that every time Scar is Hawkeye/HotGuy, he immediately casts an illusion which makes his allay/vex wings into one of a grey hawk, and also that specific avian's traits.
Why? Because Cub's a fan of wordplay and gave him that idea in the first place.
Now, what is CuteGuy in Visbreak, you may ask? It's actually a running gag amongst The Hermits and their fans to call Grian's hero alias, Poultryman, as CuteGuy due to a certain interview on The Recap (Visbreak's version of the Hermitcraft Recap), which had Grian say a very legendary quote;
"You're HotGuy because I'm hot, wouldn't that mean I'm the cute one because you are?"
Yes, it came off sounding like an accidental flirting. Was it intended? No. Did it sound unnecessarily narcissistic? Maybe. How did Scar react to it? By saying;
"CuteGuy? Sounds like something a sidekick of mine would go with."
Did the crowd love it? Absolutely. Right after that broadcast, when Grian showed up on TV, reporters and even The Hermits themselves started (jokingly) calling him 'HotGuy's Sidekick, CuteGuy'.
Scar, in fact, does not have a sidekick.
Scar has made many outfits for Hawkeye/HotGuy, yet his favourite would be his fifth and last one, which was designed by Grian himself. That change came after the Civil War in Hermitopolis (an event which would be covered later on), where a lot of heroes in The Hermits decided to do an outfit change.
Is there a CuteGuy outfit? In fact, yes. Scar based it out of his own, and gave it to Grian as a Christmas gift post-Supelaw, so sadly, the public never got the chance to ever see the CuteGuy look on Grian.
Scar and Grian's duo outfit is based on @applestruda's interpretation of the official skins, so props to her for the design!
Desert Duo are in fact, soulmates. The story for that is quite spoiler-heavy if I told you outright, but in a sense, something happened and Grian's the first living being that Scar saw.
Technically he and Jellie could be soulmates, but he saw Grian first.
It's actually the context on the HotGuy comment Grian made above, because soulmates actually affect each other's appearances and abilities.
With Grian as our focus now, he's established as a shapeshifter in (at least what I think) WCBRC's prologue. He prefers being an avian compared to any other, and would often stray away from birds of prey in front of The Hermits, as he'd prefer the scarlet macaw over everything.
As Poultryman, he became a chicken avian, though before that, he went with either a blue and yellow macaw, cockatiel, hyacinth macaw, scarlet macaw, or a certain-green-parrot-no-one's-sure-about during his vigilante days as Jungle Bandit (or Jungler, it really depends on who you ask).
But as Raptor, it's clear that he's any type of bird of prey. He prefers the fast-going ones, though. But in fights, he'll definitely go for the seriemas and their... head-crushing stomps.
Not yet discussed nor thought by Grian himself in canon (yet), but as CuteGuy, he'll definitely be a bird with something red and pink, maybe even black. The most possible one is a black rosy finch, but is still undecided. Might change in the future.
Keeping with the parrot theme, though, another choice is a pink-white or red-black parrot of sorts. If we go for the latter, the palm cockatoo and red-tailed black cockatoo are one of the highly-plausible choices. As for the former the pink cockatoo or even the galah is a possibility.
Lastly, it is imperative that Grian is buff. He just. Is. He's the definition of a sleeper build, and I am not changing that. He wears so many baggy clothing, people will be surprised at how he looks when he wears very tight looks. Why does Grian even dress that way? He prefers people underestimating him as a first impression. Don't ask. He just likes seeing their expressions once they find out.
What expressions? Nothing positive. Find out about what?... nothing positive.
And also, long-haired Grian who puts his hair into a 'waffle' braid is such a great idea. Sometimes he ties it into a manbun, most often as Raptor. Is white streak canon because Grian died and got revived in his 100 Hours series?
Not really, but it might as well be. Whether or not it's canon is up for debate.
Oh, dear God, did that feel good writing everything down. And no worries, there's a lot more from where that came from. The only thing limiting me are the available colours for text.

hi tis cacophony anon! :3 well wasn't it a long week or 4 or 5 :'3 my apologies for that lateness i did take care of myself, met with a friend for a week which was pretty fun and exciting but alas some things simply refuse to wait dhgjdfhks how are you doing? <3
so i did finally listen to xdinary heroes, a few times, and they gave me the same feeling as txt when they debuted: good first album, a sound not quite mature enough yet which is a good thing in my books bc it suits them at this stage and this is a first album not their 6th, and i'm expecting their next three comebacks too see if i like the direction they take and the sound they grow. it worked really well with txt hdghf i'm pretty much of a "wait and see" person when there's not much in their discography yet, and the artists are young.
test me was really fun, especially with the "whoo-oo-oo-oo-ah" and the chorus. i really love the pre-chorus, and the last post-chorus. the pre-chorus is my favourite part shgbhd
for knock down, if genius isn't lying to me, jungsu's and gaon's voices really got to me. gunil may have had only two lines but damn did they count as they are in the bridge which is my favourite part. also a big fan of multiple voices singing at the same time, even if it's only for na-na-na's.
sunker punch!: the calm before the storm of the chorus, a few nearly silences well used before the real silence for the last chorus. love it when silences are effective and ironically what i remember the best of a song. i'm just asking to be hit with music right in the face.
strawberry cake: this is a song i expect to grow on me bc it has a lot of the sounds i love, but for some reason the chorus and the bridge don't stick well with me, even if i really like what they did instrumentation-wise
i really enjoy pirates with the brass instruments and the "down down down / make you upside down"

i'm glad you enjoyed getting into xh's first album, and now of course their second is out!! i haven't spent nearly as much time with it as i intended (the monsta x brain rot is still going… Very Strong sdkfjksdjf and kihyun's brilliant solo album dropped right before Overload, too), but my favorites right now are ghost, crack in the mirror, and (somewhat to my surprise) X-MAS. back to the first album though-- i actually really, REALLY love the mixes to their "live clip" versions. there's a video for every song on the album, in case you missed it! i was obsessed especially with the knock down live clip back when it aired. the audio clearly has some post editing done, but… idk the vocal production is a lot closer to what they truly sound like live, i imagine, and i really dig them. not sure if they plan to do them for the second album, but i hope they do!! if you haven't seen it, they also have an instrumental band practice vid for knock down here (jun han going wild at 3'39" is an especially beloved moment). i agree it would be fun to get instrumental tracks for all their songs :') they probably have some new fun things rattling around YT for latest album that i've missed, hopefully i can get more caught up now that i'm on school break.
before i forget!! i completely agree about the effectiveness of silences in music <33 they can really take your breath away when done well!

so I said I wouldn't and I did, the story of my life :'D I also managed to start this post three separate times and each time tumblr wiped it before I managed to actually post it, so this has been a true major test of strength. but I did post over ~350k of fic this year and I do think it deserves to be celebrated, so here we go!

Not To Imply Nicky Was Shakespeare’s Fair Youth But Ive Read The Fair Youth Sonnets & Nicky Was Definitely Shakespeare’s Fair Youth, an essay by me, tumblr user crim wickedpact
background knowledge: our man shakespeare wrote some 120 sonnets about a young man referred to as the Fair Youth during the mid 1590s; there has been some debate among shakespeare enthusiasts whether shakespeare’s interest in the Fair Youth was platonic or romantic (but like. they were definitely romantic). no one knows for sure who the Fair Youth was, but it was definitely nicky and my first and most important piece of evidence regarding this hypothesis is the ‘lmao babe do you remember that guy who had a crush on me?’/ ‘i try not to remember the guy who had a crush on you’ look joe and nicky exchange when Merrick brings up shakespeare during the movie. especially since gina confirmed in a tweet that joe and nicky canonly did know shakespeare
my second piece of evidence is that it just Works (except for a couple small facts like.. the Fair Youth was prolly closer to his 20s than his 30s. and the fact that shakespeare implies that the Fair Youth slept with his mistress at one point. but he doesnt know what hes talking about shhh we IGNORE)

A. The Description Matches
when describing the Fair Youth (who I’ll call the FY from now on), shakespeare says he has a ‘gold complexion’ and ‘beautiful eyes’ and compares him to a ‘summer’s day’. He says the FY has “A woman’s gentle heart" and “An eye more bright than [women’s are], (...) Gilding the object whereupon [they] gazeth”
As much as shakespeare’s perceptions of sexuality and gender are very........ late 1500′s (whoo boy sonnet #20 is a wild ride) ...... the description does match, and also:
B. The Fair Youth Refused to Get Married
it’s never really said why one way or another (shakespeare assumes it’s because the FY is selfish) but the FY didn’t/wouldn’t take on a wife and have a kid, and this was something that was a real sticker for our man Willy S. because, as he says in his sonnets a million times: beauty doesn’t last forever, but having a child not only passes down the FY’s beauty, but also blesses the woman the FY would have a child with (im not saying shakespeare wanted to bear the FY’s children, but he definitely did)
Whose fresh repair if now thou not renewest,
Thou dost beguile the world, unbless some mother.
For where is she so fair whose uneared womb
Disdains the tillage of thy husbandry?
(ie. If you don’t renew yourself/ have children, you deprive the world and deprive a woman from having your child, since what woman out there is so beautiful that she wouldn’t want to bear your child?)
Like.
1.) if nicky is the FY then so many of these poems center around the idea of nicky growing old sometime soon and that must have been pretty funny to Nicky and
2.) the fact that shakespeare would have been So Desperate for nicky to find a wife must have been the opposite of funny to joe. considering the ease of his and nicky’s relationship and the fact that being gay in late 1500s england was probably not a walk in the park, it is very likely shakespeare wouldn’t have known they were in a committed relationship-- or at least not known how close they actually were. Thus:
C. The Rival (aka. Joe)
shakespeare mentions having a poetic rival in regards to the FY in several sonnets. In sonnet #21 he talks about how he’s not like Those Other Writers who use grand metaphors to talk about their muses
So is it not with me as with that Muse,
Stirred by a painted beauty to his verse,
Who heaven itself for ornament doth use
And every fair with his fair doth rehearse,
Making a couplement of proud compare
With sun and moon, with earth and sea's rich gems,
With April's first-born flowers, and all things rare,
(ie. I’m not like other poets who, when inspired by a ‘painted beauty’ use heaven and every other beautiful thing on the planet to make a grand comparison to their muse: he specifically lists the sun and moon as examples as well as other beautiful things)
He then goes on to say
And then believe me, my love is as fair
As any mother's child, though not so bright
As those gold candles fixed in heaven's air:
(ie. my love [the FY] is as beautiful as any other beautiful person, though I wouldn’t compare them to the stars/heavens (which is what he means by the 'gold candles’. those are stars.))
So shakespeare insults poets who compare their subjects to the sun, moon, and stars (amongst other things) and in the comics, Joe does literally exactly that
That man is the stars in my sky, and the sun that lights my days. That man is the moon when I'm lost in darkness, and warmth when I shiver in cold.
shakespeare also goes on to say in the same sonnet “Let them say more that like of hearsay well / I will not praise that purpose not to sell” which is to say ‘let people who like that kind of language use it, I wont because I don’t want anyone else to have the subject of my affections (the FY)’.
(which is a bit of a contradiction regarding his feelings abt the FY getting married, but these sonnets are full of contradictions. shakespeare was a confused dude; man spent the first 100 or so sonnets convinced the FY loved him back only for him to start wondering if the FY ever loved him near the end)
(not to mention Marriage For Love wasnt really.. much of a thing in Ye Olden Times but thats a different conversation. so shakespeare prolly didnt associate marriage with love/competition? anyways)
Shakesy-boo goes on to complain about this rival several times. In #79, he says
Yet what of thee thy poet doth invent
He robs thee of, and pays it thee again.
He lends thee virtue, and he stole that word
From thy behaviour; beauty doth he give,
And found it in thy cheek: he can afford
No praise to thee, but what in thee doth live.
(ie. everything ‘your poet’ (as the FY apparently favored this unnamed rival) says about you, he takes it from you in the first place. he talks about your virtue, but learned the word from watching your behavior. he calls you beautiful but only discovered beauty by looking at your face. every compliment he gives you he took from you in the first place)
[and, as a smaller example, he also bemoans the fact that people want to paint the FY in #67, saying, “Why should false painting imitate his cheek, / And steal dead seeming of his living hue?”. and yknow. Joe’s an artist.]
And then another example in #86
Was it the proud full sail of [the rival’s] great verse,
Bound for the prize of all too precious you,
That did my ripe thoughts in my brain inhearse,
Making their tomb the womb wherein they grew?
Was it his spirit, by spirits taught to write
Above a mortal pitch, that struck me dead?
(ie. he’s talking about how he’s having difficulty writing abt the FY and is rhetorically asking if ‘the proud sail’ of the rival’s verses was the reason his ‘ripe thoughts’ were killed in their ‘womb’. He then asks (again rhetorically) if it was the rival’s ‘spirit’ (or creativity, maybe) ‘’’‘by spirits taught to write’’’’ that killed his own drive to write. none of the analyses I’ve read really explain what shakespeare means by ‘spirits taught to write’, other than maybe being a joke or reference to something we dont know, but... ‘taught by dead people to write in a way mortal people can’t’ very much sounds like a description of an immortal poet, eh?)
Which brings me to,
D. Willy Boy Thinks There Are 500 Year Old Writings About the Fair Youth
shakespeare talks about people having written about the FY ‘500 years ago’ from the late 1500s in #59 which......................... would have been around 1100 AD. :thinking face:
Oh that record could with a backward look,
Even of five hundred courses of the sun,
Show me your image in some antique book,
Since mind at first in character was done,
That I might see what the old world could say
To this composed wonder of your frame;
(ie. Oh if I could look back 500 years and see how you were described in some old books so I could see/reference what people used to write about you)
Which again brings me to,
E. I’m Not Saying shakespeare Stole From Joe, But:
1.) In #22, shakespeare says this,
For all that beauty that doth cover thee,
Is but the seemly raiment of my heart,
Which in thy breast doth live, as thine in me:
(ie, your beauty is due to the ‘clothes’ my heart gives you-- probably means something like ‘you’re beautiful because i love you’. goes on to say his heart lives in the FY’s chest, and the FY’s heart lives in shakespeare’s chest)
so: shakespeare tells the FY he has shakespeare’s heart. in comparison, Joe calls nicky ‘my heart’ in the comics...... :thinking face x2:
2.) In #109, shakespeare tells the FY ‘thou art my all’,
For nothing this wide universe I call,
Save thou, my rose, in it thou art my all.
which rings similar to Joe’s ‘he’s all and he’s more’ as well as (from the comics) ‘he is my everything’
and just saying. joe looks pretty #done the mention of shakespeare.
F. The last One
Despite shakespeare writing 30+ poems about the FY eventually growing old, the very last poem he writes about/for the FY says,
O thou, my lovely boy, who in thy power
Dost hold Time's fickle glass, his sickle hour;
Who hast by waning grown, and therein showest
Thy lovers withering, as thy sweet self growest.
(ie. you [the FY] have power over the ‘mirror’ (fickle glass) of time as well as time’s ‘harvesting’ ability (sickle hour) and as you grow older, you remain beautiful while your lovers [shakespeare] wither and grow old)
The transition from ‘get married and have a baby before you get old!!!!’ in #1-20 to talking about the FY’s presence in 500 y/o books in #59 to admitting the FY isn’t growing old in #126 kinda seems to imply shakespeare learning of/about nicky’s immortality at some point, and this last poem is him accepting it.
TLDR: not only does it make perfect sense if nicky was the Fair Youth from the FY sonnets, but it also makes perfect sense if joe was the Rival from the FY sonnets. its canon nothing will convince me otherwise
