Peter’s form is half blurred as he darts across his shoebox apartment, tugging a ratty hoodie on while simultaneously picking discarded laundry off the floor with his feet. Anthony presses the metal space on his chest that hides the reactor from view, sending the pieces of the suit into storage and resetting any surrounding security cameras in the same motion. “Hey kiddo,” Peter says, voice muffled by grey fabric. “Is it Tuesday already?” “Nope,” Anthony makes sure to pop the last syllable as he saunters through the apartment. Foals welcome bassist Walter Gervers back to the band
"Get ready, the boys are back in business"
By Andrew Trendell | 2nd May 2023 | NME
Foals have announced that former bassist Walter Gervers has re-joined the band.
The band, who are currently gearing up for a run of intimate UK out-store shows before hitting the road to support Paramore in South America and then later return to headline Reading & Leeds, had previously teased to NME that they’d have a “surprise” for fans about who’d be playing with them at the upcoming gigs.
Now, they’ve revealed that Gervers is back in the line-up, following his departure from the group in 2017.
“After six years in the alpine wilderness guess who’s back in the band?,” wrote frontman Yannis Philippakis in an Instagram post of his fellow Foals members in the pub with Gervers. “Walter is back and better than ever. Rejoining for all the coming shows and into the future. Get ready, the boys are back in business.”
The band then went on to share footage of the reunited line-up back in rehearsals.
Gervers previously left the group in order to “pursue a new life”. The band remained a four-piece before becoming a trio when keyboardist Edwin Congreave left in 2021 to focus on his studies and environmental work. Following Gervers’ exit, live bass duties have been carried out by Everything Everything’s Jeremy Pritchard and Jagwar Ma’s Jack Freeman.
Speaking to NME in 2019 ahead of the release of ‘Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost Part One’ – their first record without Gervers – Philippakis spoke of how the band felt without him as “the counsellor” of Foals.
“Walter was probably the nicest member of Foals, so without him, you’re left with four sharp edges in a room,” said Yannis. “Those sharp edges have to find a way to get on quite quickly or the whole thing turns into an unbearable nightmare.”
Drummer Jack Bevan continued: “If you were to look at it as a family, and I’ve seen about 100 times more of these guys than I have my actual family over the last 10 years, then Walter was kind of like the dad or much older brother who kept us from fighting with each other. A lot of the time, he was the one who would organise us to do nice and wholesome activities.”
Last month saw Foals release the dub remix of their acclaimed 2022 album ‘Life Is Yours’ by Speedy Wunderground label boss and super-producer Carey (Wet Leg, Slowthai, Fontaines D.C.) as part of 2023’s Record Store Day releases.
Philippakis told NME about how the “sweaty and unclean” remix album “goes into space, via Streatham”, as well as their hopes and plans for touring with Paramore and headlining Reading & Leeds for a second time.
Foals embark on a short run of intimate UK dates this month before Reading & Leeds in August. Visit here for tickets and more information.

WERK EDWIN SMET INSPIREERT, INTRIGEERT, TREKT AAN EN LAAT NIET MEER LOS
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
'For the Longest Time' is het boek getiteld.
But don't shoot the messenger.
For the Longest Time. Selectie werken Edwin Smet 2016 tot 2021. Met een inleidende tekst van Kees Verbeek. Uitgave Van Spijk ArtBook, 2021.

                            Harewood Manor in England.
~ “Home to the Lascelles family for hundreds of years, Harewood House is a famous landmark in Leeds. However, the grandeur of property harbors a dark and troubled past. In the late 17th century, members of the Lascelles family purchased plantations in the West Indies, and the income generated from these plantations allowed Henry Lascelles to purchase the property in 1738, and his son, Edwin, who was the first Baron of Harew ood and a rich slave, built the house in 1759 and 1771 to replace the original solar that existed on the property. His money initially came from trade, mostly from the sugar plantations in Barbados, which were worked by African slaves. The Lascelles brothers concentrated on their production and export, importing slaves from West Africa to work in the plantations. Edwin was the head of the family since 1786, after his two younger brothers, Daniel and Henry, died two years apart. He built 22 plantations in the West Indies where 3,000 slaves worked. He later died without children and the property then passed to his cousin Edward, who had worked as a customs clerk in Barbados. Edward became Count of Harewood and won the title of Viscount Lascelles in 1812.” ~

Harewood House, an renowned landmark in Leeds, and has opened up on the stately homes history and how it was funded by slavery
Tumblr media
A stately home has opened up about its slave trade past to shed light on its dark history in a bid to educate others.
Harewood House was purchased using money from slave plantations and the first Baron of Harewood was a wealthy slave owner.
The vast property, near Leeds, has opened up about its sombre history instead of running from it, LeedsLive reported.
David Lascelles, Earl of Harewood said: "I believe very strongly that we can change things in the present, but for better or for worse there is nothing that any of us can do about history and the past.”
The home of the Lascelles family for hundreds of years, Harewood House is a renowned landmark in the area.
In the late 17th century members of the family bought up plantations in the West Indies and worked them with slaves they imported from Africa. David Lascelles with the late Queen (

Money generated from these allowed Henry Lascelles to purchase the estate in 1738 and his son Edwin, the first Baron of Harewood, was a wealthy slave owner who built the home between 1759 and 1771, replacing the original manor.

Edwin headed the family fortune from 1786 after his two younger brothers, Daniel and Henry, both died within two years of each other. The house's first owners profiteered from the slave trade (

Following that, he added 22 more plantations and 3,000 slaves to the family’s slave empire - benefiting from the collapse of sugar exports during the American War of Independence.
Edwin went on to die childless, and took his title with him, his fortune passing to his cousin Edward, who eventually became the Earl of Harewood. In 1812 he also became Viscount Lascelles.
The Lascelles soon became aristocrats and the sixth Earl of Harewood married Princess Mary, Queen Elizabeth II’s aunt. Photograph of Harewood House taken in the 19th century (

Then, in 2005, the eighth earl, David Lascelles, second cousin of King Charles, opened up about his ancestors’ profiteering off the slave trade in a documentary.
Much of the research into the Lascelles’ slave trade links was undertaken by the University of York in 2007 when they digitised much of the business papers detailing the families affairs.
David and the family helped researchers at York University on the life and times of Henry Lascelles, they did not hesitate to hand over letters and documents. Researchers from the University of York helped shine a light on the family's deep ties to the slave trade (

The family sold their last plantation on the island in 1970 and now have a legacy on the island of Barbados.
Many local residents who have descended from slaves still have Lascelles or Harewood as their surname, as it was common for slaves to take the name of their owners.
David has made it clear that there is educational work being done to make sure Harewood is inclusive and that the history is out for the public to see.

PNG Kumuls Face to Wales in the final Round Rugby League World Cup 2022
The Rugby League World Cup last group match before the finals kick off will see the powerful Papua New Guinea taking on Wales, who sit at the bottom of the Group D table.
The Group D draw has worked out well for Papua New Guinea and they can secure their place in the knockout stage of the Rugby League World Cup with a win over Wales on Monday.
There are few changes to the Kumuls lineup. In the forwards, Sherwin Tanabi replaces Sylvester Namo has been rested while Zev John replaces Mekenzie Yer who faces a match ban following high shot on a Cook Islands player last week. Watson Boas has been rested and he is replaced by Wesser Tenzer for the utility role.

PNG Kumuls vs Wales Match Preview
The Kumuls very nearly pulled off a mighty upset in the opening week as they went down to Tonga 24-18 before beating the Cook Islands in the second round by 32-16. Their tenacity and power has always been their strength and they have an abundance of it again at this World Cup, however with their improvements in ball play, they are going to be the favourites in this match and if they reach the Quarters, will cause their opponents their a lot of grief.
Wales might be winless, but they have not been disgraced, despite being in a Group with 3 other sides that are all big powerful ball runners. They narrowly lost to the Cook Islands 18-12 in the first round and were comfortably beaten by Tonga 32-6 in the second game. Wales though have shown that they do punch above their weight and will not go away meekly.
PNG played well in the 24-18 defeat to pool favourites Tonga and a 32-16 win over the Cook Islands last Tuesday put them in pole position to join the Tongans in the quarter-finals.
That said, Wales will not roll over and they demonstrated their ability 24 hours earlier by scoring first in their 32-6 loss to Tonga.
Tonga roared back but John Kear’s men impressed and the coach will be calling for another gallant performance.
However, the Kumuls ran away from the Cook Islands in the second half and captain Rhyse Martin looked particularly sharp.
The Leeds forward missed out on the world record for consecutive successful kicks at goal but still knocked over eight points and scored a try.
Martin also went over against Tonga and at the prices, his class with ball in hand suggests he is one to look out for in tryscorer markets.

My father wants to have a Talk, which means he has a suspicion I’m queer. Even as a legal adult in every sense of the word, in every country, he may check my phone. This will ensure he doesn’t see my fics. None of these are finished or edited in any capacity, so please know the finished product will be better! And finished! 😂
