Lion's Mane Jellyfish (Cyanea capillata)
Family: Cyaneid Jellyfish Family (Cyaneidae)
IUCN Conservation Status: Unassessed
Named for its frilly "mane" made up of over 1,200 long, stinging tentacles, the Lion's Mane Jellyfish is among the largest known jellyfish species; while this viral image showing a diver next to a Lion's Mane Jellyfish has been edited to make the jellyfish appear far larger than it actually is, members of this species still dwarf most of their relatives, with a bell ("main body") diameter of over 2.4 meters (7.89 feet) and a tentacle length of as much as 30 meters (98.4 feet), making it one the longest animals on earth. Typically found near the surface in the Arctic, northern Atlantic and northern Pacific Ocean regions, Lion's Mane Jellyfishes, like all jellyfishes, lack brains, eyes, hearts or respiratory organs (instead exchanging gasses directly between the water around them and their extremely thin tissues,) and rely heavily on waves and ocean tides to travel, but are able to slowly propel themselves in a given direction by expanding the 8 bag-like lobes of their bodies to take in water and then forcing it out again to push themselves along (although they can also to some extent detect and react to their orientation and surroundings owing to a series of frilly sensory structures located around their body's rim, know as rhopalia.) Like most jellyfishes the long, trailing tentacles of a Lion's Mane Jellyfish are lined with touch-sensitive, harpoon-like cells called cnidocytes that fire venomous barbs into any animal that touches them, and after a tentacle has stung and ensnared suitable prey (mainly fish, large plankton and smaller jellyfishes) it is pulled back towards the body where the prey is passed through a mouth-like opening on the jellyfish's underside and into a simple body cavity where it is digested, with any indigestible matter, such as shells or bones, later being ejected from the body through the same opening it entered through. The life cycle of the Lion's Mane Jellyfish, like that of most jellyfishes, takes place in 4 distinct stages and seems highly elaborate compared to that of most animals; the bag-like adults that we typically think of as jellyfishes, known as medusas, are either male or female and reproduce sexually by releasing gametes into the water around them, and should these gametes meet they fuse and develop into tiny larvae. The larvae then settle onto a solid surface and develop into polyps (a second, immobile life stage resembling a sea anemone,) and each polyp then asexually reproduces several times, with genetically identical, slow-swimming young splitting off of its body as buds. Each of these asexually-produced individuals will then develop into a medusa, continuing the cycle and meaning that each single instance of sexual reproduction in Lion's Mane Jellyfishes produces multiple asexually-produced offspring. Despite their massive size medusas of this species only live for around a year, although their polyps, which only reproduce under ideal environmental conditions, may remain dormant for longer than this.

Analog Horror List
Analog horror is uniquely known for its low quality and low visual styles. Or VHS style. They can widely range to a found footage or a visual guide style formatting.
Here are some noted ones:
These videos can contain disturbing content, as well as content that can induce a epileptic seizure if you choose to watch any of them.
2h32: A series of videos that are all two minutes and thirty-two seconds long.
Backrooms - The Otherside: A found footage of the back rooms.
Basswood County: Humanoid creatures that kill humans.
Cave Crawler: A video game (no commentary) about a special remote controlled bot meant to look for missing people (or bodies) in caves.
Chezzkids Archives: An archive of games from a website called Chezzkids. The developer went missing and her photos are showing up in the game. May need to have an episode explain it (this one by Minaxa did it well) as there are clues outside of the videos as well.
Cloud Observation: A short observation video on a cloud that seems to be growing limbs.
Escape the Backrooms: A combination of found footages and commercials, it details the backroom and people trying to escape from it.
Eventide - Anomaly Infestation: A news report of anomalies.
Fear Virus: A quick guide on how to protect yourself from a new, highly infectious virus that causes mutations in humans to become something they fear.
Floaters: A video and short guide. It details how humans are suddenly floating into the air.
Gemini Home Entertainment: A series of VHS styled video tapes. Neptune has mutated and is now infecting Earth with strange things called "woodcrawlers" and other mysterious happenings.
Green Mountain Broadcast Center: A archival for tapes. Only one on this channel labled "Live Traffic" which documents a strange storm.
Greylock: One of my favorites so far. About the government experimenting with tulpa and possibly uncovering an ancient god.
Happy Meat Farms: Animal testing that causes severe deformities.
Hi I'm Mary Mary: A woman wakes up in a house with no exits. She then has to face her greatest fears.
Identity Test: A test on whether or not you can tell the difference between normal faces, and distorted ones.
Itch File: A diver touches a random creature that ejects a pus like substance on him with a virus. Severe trypophobia warning.
Koala Superdeep Borehole Incident: The deepest man-made hole has a bit of an unnerving find.
Local 58 Season One: A news station trying to report on the news, when a broadcast alert stating to not look at the moon is reported. Season two
Harmony and Horror: A VHS style of film. as you watch, you discover the oddities and mysteries of the toys tore.
Marble Hornets: You know what this is.
Mister Manticore: Asks you to memorize a picture before asking you to find the differences. Has quick fleshing images.
Midwest Angelica: A piece of an alien breaks away and onto Earth as it passes the exosphere. It quickly folds into horror beyond comprehension.
Monument Mythos Season One: In an alternate world, where the statues seem to be more than just simple monuments. Season Two Season Three
Omega Mart Ad Compilation: Adds that are attempting to be targeted towards humans. More silly and deranged than scary.
Raining Fire (EAS Snario): A EAS scenario of a mentor shower suddenly hailing Earth on Christmas Eve. Leading to event after event.
Surreal Broadcast: A news station with things happening in the background that are related to a cult. Season Two Season Three
Searching for the Five: Five men suddenly disappeared, only leaving behind a few clues.
Sinkhole: A very hungry sinkhole.
Stone Cold Series: Strange eyes have suddenly started to show up in the night.
The Anglers Trap: A guide on what to do when you encounter a tree called the anglers trap. Which lures in humans like an angler fish.
The Backrooms: Where it all started, I believe. The Backrooms are limital spaces.
The Children Under the House: A therapist tries to find out why a young girl has suddenly stopped talking. Her imaginary friends of course, know why.
The Mandela Catalogue: Hostile creatures called alternates (alters for short) that mimic humans, but don't do it quite right. It mixed Christianity and horror together.
The Oldest View: A man finds a random stairwell in a tree that leads miles down. It turns out it's an old mall. Made by the same man who created the Backrooms.
The Scrimblo Catalogue: A joke analog horror based off of a twitter meme. Part Two
The Smile Tapes: A new fungai releases spores that infect humans that causes the muscle in the faces to distort into a smile and causes hysteria.
The Swarm: Aggressive, hungry mosquitos created by a science project gone wrong.
The Quentin Sanders Tapes: A man named Quentin sanders goes to Foxwood university only to discover a eldritch monster.
The Walten Files: Possessed animatronics, one of the founder's family goes missing while the other conspired against them. And not to forget the possessed animatronics.
They Lie Above: Follows the story of a son of a missing farmer who was abducted by aliens, and Neil Armstrong. Who's memories were erased after encountering a alien space craft.
VibingLeaf: Three videos that have a early youtube "lost videos" esque style.
Vita Carnis: A guide on strange fauna and flora seemingly made entirely, out of meat.
White Door Opened: Set in Poland, monsters and strange red mist begins to spread. Of course it starts with humans messing with things they shouldn't mess with.
Winter of 83: Snowmen come to life, and they aren't happy.
-Did I miss any? Let me know! I'll try to keep this updated as I deeper and deeper, but I can't catch everything.

Current Obsessions 🌸🍄🐸💜🌿🌼
(Haven’t done one in 3 years, I think, and I have half an ounce of energy right now but here goes)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Scavengers Reign… an animated science-fiction show about a beautiful but dangerous planet with unusual biological mechanisms… watch for free here
Tumblr media
Winternight Trilogy… a historical fantasy series spun with Russian fairytales, old gods, and curious creatures… rent on Libby with a library card
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Boy and the Heron… I know the latest Ghibli got some mixed reviews, but I’m just giddy to have another super magical film from our favorite Japanese retiree, and understanding how this film relates to his legacy and his son makes it much more emotional for me… it will be on Max at some point or watch for free on fmoviesz.to
Tumblr media
Southern Reach Trilogy… I realized that the Annihilation movie was loosely based off of these books, so I had to know more about this quarantined (but ever-expanding) area where strange and psychedelic phenomena occurs… these are probably also on Libby
Tumblr media
The Scholomance Trilogy… re-reading one of my favorite magical series in which students navigate a deadly world where monsters and even their own school seem to be coming for them at every turn… the first audiobook is available for free with a Spotify premium account, or just find them on Libby lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dave the Diver… explore the deep seas by day, run a sushi restaurant by night, and more… I dunno, I play it at my sister’s house so go look for it on Steam
Tumblr media
This last one is kinda random but I’ve been really into Ito En teas at the moment… I usually get the giant bottles of unsweetened green tea from my local Asian markets… I’ve also been drinking a lot of giant bottles of unsweetened Aloe because I’m a giant ball of inflammation but I couldn’t find my brand.
So, the end! I hope these give you comfort as we wait for spring! If you’ve been feeling gloomy, stir-crazy, or otherwise glum, remember to keep taking your vitamin D and keep your chin up, cause spring is so close we can almost taste it. 🌸 ~love, laue

What mecha shows did you enjoy but would not recommend to people (flawed personal favourites, shows with high entry barrier, etc.)?
Several come to mind.
Blue SPT Layzner: TV run got shitcanned prematurely and has probably the mast slapdash ending of any mecha show save maybe the TV run of Ideon. OVA adaptation opens with rushed compilation of first half of TV series that's dull to watch and not especially coherent on its own before it gets to the altered and much improved ending. Feels like there's no right way to watch it, you have to do both and piece it together in your head. Definitely one to check out after you've seen Takahashi's better work like Votoms and Dougram, though it's infuriating because the series has banger music and mecha design, and the hypothetical ideal version of the plot that you don't have to basically kitbash together in your head is really good.
Dancouga: Production values are amazing in first episodes and then turn to complete dogshit shortly thereafter, like they literally spent their whole budget up front and then had to pay their animators in loose change and leftover fast food. Very strange pacing. However I've always really liked the main protagonist Shinobu Fujiwara whose voice actor honestly carries the show on his back, and I've had a soft spot for Dancouga the mecha itself for a long time - but it doesn't actually show up until half way in. Yet somehow I can't deny the charm of the show despite how slapdash it is thanks to its interesting approach to the super robot formula, and it leads into Requiem for Victims which is the true ending for the TV plot and a followup called God Bless Dancouga, both of which are banger OVAs (and then another kinda shitty one after that but who cares.) Unfortunately they all make no sense without watching the TV run. It's a franchise for hardcore mecha fans only, though IIRC the 2000s sequel Dancouga Nova is basically disconnected and stands on its own, for better or worse. I've yet to watch it.
Tryder G7: 80s super robot show that's kind of like a part slice-of-life anime, honestly ahead of its time in a lot of ways. Would be my go-to recommendation for 80s super robot shows if there was a decent fansub. The one that exists is a Russian translation of the official Italian subs that then got translated into English and it's as disastrous as you might expect. Not only is it incoherent but even as a non-Japanese speaker I can tell it's often inaccurate. Frustrating because I can tell it's a good show that deserves a proper English sub for fans.
Cross Ange: Notorious show by the Gundam Seed creators. The concept and lore of this show is batshit insane, the mecha are cool, the main character turns out to be interesting and likable despite very negative first impressions, however there's no denying that it's buried under a thick vaneer of shallow coombait and it runs itself off the rails with zany plot at points. Honestly better than its reputation suggests but hard to recommend without looking like a pervert.
Shinkon Gattai Godannar: Basically the same thing, coombait super robot series, fun action, not a bad story. At the same time if you've ever seen a gif of absurd breast physics in anime from the 2000s there's a decent chance it's from Godannar. Good show at the end of the day, better than it has a right to be, artstyle is gonna be a big turnoff for many people and I don't necessarily blame them.
Gundam Build Divers Re:Rise: Probably the weirdest of the build series, also IMO the best. Downside: you have to suffer through the profoundly mediocre original Build Divers to get the most out of it and I'm not sure that price is worth it.
Probably more that I could add. Honourable mention has to go Gundam Seed Stargazer because you have to suffer through Gundam Seed Destiny to get to it, but I hear that the new Gundam Seed movie that's also set after Destiny is good so perhaps the cost-to-benefit ratio of suffering through Destiny has changed.

Dumb anime logic, Asuka is filling up the elevator with her boob meat and gut, hotboxing whatever empty space is left with her burps, and Rei is pressed up against the door...
Cause angels or somethin', idk, dont fluster me--
Tumblr media
"H-hey, WoooOOOOOURPndergirl, where'd... HYIC-UUUUUUUUUURP!... where'd you go?!"
Asuka filled up the elevator in the same way a milkshake fills up a glass. Her body -- surely well over two-thousand pounds -- was not so much standing in the lift as much as it had been somehow poured in. Flab splayed up against each wall like oceanwater crashing up against the wooden legs of a dock. It was a wonder the weight limit hadn't been reached.
"D-did you... HYIC! HYICK! HYURK!" Asuka's eyelids fluttered with fatigue. Whatever words she managed to get out were consistently prefixed or suffixed by all manner of gas. "BEOOOOOOOOOOUURP-HIC-UUUUUUUUUUUUUUURP!"
The former pilot's flesh rose and fell like sand dunes; hills and valleys, peaks and troughs formed the landscape throughout the confined capacity of the elevator. Her pale, stretch mark-laden skin served as a canvas for condiments, crumpled up wrappers, and food stains. The walls themselves were similarly greasy, caked with sweat and dripping with moisture from being practically drowned in her generous fat. At least, the top half of them were; the lower half of each wall had been completely buried beneath Asuka's lard-ridden body. So, too, was the case for the aforementioned Wondergirl.
"Did yoOOOURP... haaah~... did yoOOOOOOOUUUURP... haaaaaanghh~..." In the dead center of it all was Asuka's head. Sat atop a series of chins that virtually melted into the rest of her, the redhead's once-sharp features had been so distorted with adipose that every facial recognition control in NERV rejected her clearance. "...st-steal myyHYICK-UUUURP!... my food?..."
It took her multiple minutes to get even a single question out. That in itself was a mockery -- but Asuka furthered the absurdity by trying to point a finger. Each of them had grown so thick that the lines that fell between her knuckles flattened against the rest of her bulbous skin. They practically resembled the shape of particularly giant carrots.
"I can... feel yUUUUUUUUUOOOOOORAAAAAAAAAAAAP!... hnnnngNNGMngh~... feel yYHOURK!... f-feel you squirming, HYIC-UUUUUUUUUURP!... you know!"
Belches were so deep, so loud, that they resonated with the metal girders carrying the elevator from one floor to another. And each gaseous expulsion was not only deafening, but unmistakably warm. Rei couldn't see a thing -- she was smooshed against one of the walls like a bug against a windshield -- but she certainly suspected that the air had turned green from Asuka's noxious fumes.
The elevator doors opened slowly, laboriously. The friction that Asuka's bulging lard imposed upon them kept them from going any faster than a snail. Not that anyone could even board the lift, anyway. Asuka's blubber bulged into the corridor like a diver desperate to surface for a breath; it would be a miracle if the door would ever shut again.
As for Rei, she was unlucky enough to be pinned against one of the other walls. She was in for a long ride.

Whales are freaking awesome
Tumblr media
When I was a kid I loved the series Ocean Girl and it totally got me fascinated with whales. They are just so intelligent and for the most part very sociable. They are fascinating to me. Most of all I am fascinated with them because they look at us humans and are like: "Yo, fellow intelligent creature!"
There are a ton of videos online with all sorts of whales coming to human divers or humans on boats and show them where they got tangled up with fishing hooks and fishing lines. Because they understand that humans are likely to want to help them - and because they know humans will understand when they show them. This might seem very random, but it actually betrays so much intelligence from their side - and the ability to understand how humans are thinking in some regards.
In Australia there was a school of orcas, that worked together with humans to capture other whales. While we now can talk about the moral of this (class traitors, man!), this is interesting because it was wild whales that were not trained to do that. They just worked together with humans.
There is also another thing: While those entire SeaWorld types shows are horrid and whales of no sort belong in a fucking swimming pool... We also have seen in the wild that dolphins and some whales will do tricks for humans knowing that humans might actually feed them for that.
I find this so interesting, because it is one of those things were once again we humans just think of ourselves as so much more intellgent than other creatures out there... But we are not really the only kind of intelligent creature nor the only animal able to understand the intelligence in other animals either.
But we also need to do better to protect those animals. Because we are horrible to me. Also the polution. The normal one and the noise polution as well. We should just do better by those creatures, man.

hale (pt. 2 | n.s.)
summary: tompa takes on the task of teaching the older sully boy how to ride an ilu, but the night doesn’t quite end how they expect.
pairing: srewtompa [metkayina!oc] x neteyam
Tumblr media
warnings: script following, bad sex jokes (no smut)
word count: 1.6k
series masterlist
Tumblr media
The kids watch Tompa as she jumps into the water with a squeal. Tsireya, Rotxo, and Aonung jump in behind her. Neteyam and Lo’ak look at one another, then run in time with each other. They make a big splash and their sisters follow in behind them with excited screams. Tompa watches the four explore the ocean with wonder in their eyes. Tompa uses her hands to guide a creature in their direction and they watch in awe as it allows her to change its course. Lo’ak reaches for it, but it quickly turns away from him. Both boys suddenly go a little wide-eyed, then swim up to the surface as fast as they can. They peek their heads back under the water and Lo’ak shrugs a little when he notices the staring.
Tsireya signs ‘swim together with us’ to the boys and they shrug again. Tompa makes a ‘come here’ motion with her arm and dives deeper, making her way next to Tsireya. The boys go back up for a breath and begin following. They follow the group for less than a minute before the slight panic flashes on their faces again. They point up, frantically swimming to the top to gasp for air. Tompa abandons her usual swimming group and resurfaces with the newcomers. They pant at the surface and she looks at them both, observing their reactions as the other Metkayina surface behind her.
“Are you alright?” she asks.
“You’re too fast! Wait for us,” Tuk whines.
“Just breathe. Breathe,” Tsireya says, trying to reassure the three Sully children.
“You are not good divers,” Aonung says, “Maybe good at swinging through trees, but--” Tsireya pushes her brother’s head so he stops speaking.
“Come on bro,” Lo’ak says, sounding very tired already.
“We don’t speak this finger talk, guys. We don’t know what you’re saying,” Neteyam says, making a gesture with his hands.
“We will teach you guys,” Tompa says, looking at Tsireya who nods in agreement. Rotxo begins to ask for Kiri, causing the group to look around for the girl. “She couldn’t have gotten very far.”
“We should find Kiri,” Rotxo insists.
“Kiri’s fine,” Lo’ak says, “She’s off being… Kiri.”
The next few weeks go about the same. The group of Metkayina teens try to teach the group something, Kiri is usually gone “being Kiri” (as Lo’ak puts it), but the others are always there ready to learn.
Tompa takes the day off, but hears her name being called out by Aonung regardless. She lets out a groan, head flopping to the side. Her slumber fades away the more her name is called out. She stands, stretching and making her way outside. She jumps into the ocean, the chill water waking her immediately. Her body glides through the water and she stops when she meets with the group.
“Need my help already?” she taunts, smiling evilly at the boy.
Aonung rolls his eyes, sighing in defeat, “Yes. Yes we do. I need you to help teach these skxawng--”
“You can leave now, Aonung,” she says, splashing water in his direction. The two ilu swim up to her, bumping her gently and she giggles. She greets them with pats on the head as they both try to fight for Tompa’s attention. She shoos them, telling them to approach the Sully boys. Tsireya swims to Lo’ak’s side, which tells Tompa to help Neteyam. She gestures to the ilu, “Show me what you got, Sully.”
She grabs the ilu’s kuru as Neteyam climbs onto the animal. He looks at her with a nervous expression, “This has not been going well for Lo’ak and I.”
She can’t help but giggle at the boy. “Just breathe, Neteyam. Gently make the bond when you are ready.”
He nods and takes a deep breath, pulling his braid to the front of his body. The pink tendrils meet with those of the ilu, and Neteyam gasps gently. His eyes blow out wide and Tompa reminds him to feel the shared breaths with the ilu, the strength of the creature. He seems to calm down a little more with every word, less tense than when he first got on top of the creature. She guides his hand to hold on and he looks at her through lidded eyes. Tompa quickly looks away from him, pulling her hand to herself.
“Hold on and go when you’re ready,” she says. Before she can think of anything else to add, the ilu takes off with Neteyam holding on. It starts off rough, Neteyam barely able to hold on with the speed. Then the ride smooths out and Neteyam visibly calms down. He and the ilu glide smoothly through the water and she smiles proudly at how easy it was to teach the boy after Aonung couldn’t do it.
Tompa calls out for an ilu, a familiar female sliding up to her side. She makes the bond and grabs on, the ilu takes off after Neteyam quickly. She stays next to him, watching as Neteyam explores the ocean on the ilu’s back.. The two glide as if they are flying through air, the feel of the cool water rushing around them both. They ride together for what feels like forever, until he has to go back up for a breath.
“Woah,” he says, looking around as he breathes in deeply.
She smiles at the boy proudly, “You did so well, Neteyam.”
“I guess I just had an amazing teacher,” he says.
She rolls her eyes at him, “Well I had a determined student. And you held your breath much longer than before!”
“Yeah. I don’t know what it was,” he says, “I just felt so calm down there.”
“That’s exactly it,” she explains, “You must be calm, allow the water to be your guide.”
The rest of the day is spent helping him master riding the ilu and learning how to breathe more effectively. The darkness of night takes over the landscape the longer the two stay out, but they don’t seem to notice through the distraction of the other’s company.
One of Tompa’s hands is resting on Neteyam’s heart, the other his stomach. She guides him through his breathing technique, helping him slow his heart down. The cave is quiet, save for his deep inhales and exhales and the girl’s quiet praise.
“Neteyam! Srewtompa!”
The both of them whip their heads in the direction of the village at the first shout. It is only then that Neteyam notices the lack of light outside. Tompa’s hands fall from his body as she looks at the boy, panic now written on his face.
“Shit,” he says, “I have to get home.”
“Oh, Neteyam, I’m so sorry. I wasn’t even paying attention,” she says. She calls for an ilu as they make their way to the shore. He shakes his head, making a ‘no’ gesture with his hands.
“Don’t be sorry, it’s my fault,” he says, “I should have paid more attention.”
“Here, get on,” she says, gesturing to the ilu in front of them. He looks puzzled, glancing at the ilu and then back to Tompa.
“But where is yours?”
“I will ride with you,” she says, “You’ve been doing well all day and--”
“No, no, no,” he says, shaking his head, “If I mess up and hurt you--”
“You won’t hurt me,” she assures. His mouth opens to refute, but the volume of their names gets louder. She looks him in the eyes and points at the animal, “On. Now.”
He sighs, getting on and allowing Tompa to follow suit. Her hands gently land on his waist and he makes the bond. He holds on with one hand, the other landing on the back of Tompa’s thigh to ensure she doesn’t fall. The ilu zips through the water and the girl admires the life around them as they make their way back to the village.
Jake, Tonowari, and Ronal stand on the beach as the two approach. They hop off of their ilu and make their way closer to the adults, all having a look of anger on their faces.
“Srewtompa, get to your marui now,” Tonowari says sternly.
She furrows her brows, “Have I done something wrong?”
“Just get home,” he says. Tompa’s head falls with shame. She turns to Neteyam and says a quiet goodbye before making her way back to her home. Tonowari begins walking away, but Ronal lingers for a second to send Neteyam daggers with her gaze. He can’t fight off the guilt that begins to brew in his chest for getting Tompa in trouble, and he says a silent prayer to Eywa that nothing happens to her.
“Your mother and I told you not to stay out late, Neteyam. Your mother is at home worried sick,” Jake says.
“I’m sorry dad,” Neteyam says. His gaze falls to the floor and his ears flatten sadly, tail falling limp instead of its usual sway.
“And with a girl?” Jake adds. Neteyam’s head shoots back up, eyes wide at the implication.
“What? No! It’s not like that. She was teaching me how to ride an ilu,” he explains. His explanation is louder than his regular volume and the panicky tone in his voice probably didn’t help to convince his father that nothing was going on.
“All night? Alone? Far from the village?” Jake asks, a small smile appearing on his face.
“Okay, I know how it looks, but--” he stutters on his words and his dad’s eyebrow raises. “Dad, stop it! No! We were just riding all day!”
“All day? Wow! That’s impressive, son,” Jake says. He doesn’t even attempt to contain his own amusement, and Neteyam’s face scrunches in mortification.
“Oh, father, ew! Grow up!”

Really the only problem I have with Dave the Diver so far is minor biology flubs. Some of it just seems to be translation issues so I'm not too bothered, and I suspect some of it is going to turn out to be weird sci-fi/fantasy nonsense so I'm very not bothered (it's noted that the fish in the Great Blue Hole are unusually aggressive and the story seems to be pointing towards giving an explanation of either The Ancients Fucked Up or a Nefarious Organization Is Doing Experiments, possibly both, and also one of the bosses was a giant boxing mantis shrimp so something is going on, therefore I'll forgive the aggressive thresher sharks) but some of it...
Well, for example, the cetaceans opening their mouths to vocalize and some of the actual vocalizations. Cetaceans vocalize through a complicated apparatus connected to their blowholes, so don't actually open their mouths to make sounds. In many species opening their mouths is a threat display, since they don't have lips to speak of so open mouth = showing off teeth.
And the bottlenoses make that damn Flipper kookaburra sound, which is not at all what dolphins actually sound like, though they do have some appropriate whistling and clicking as well.
On the one hand it's just minor things that I notice because I'm a zoology nerd who loves cetaceans in particular, but on the other hand I'm reminded of this radio series that I read about a while ago. The name escapes me, but it was set in rural England, and the producers had to learn up on What Farm Animals Sound Like because they kept getting letters from farmers about things like "that's not this chicken breed, it's that chicken breed" and "That's not the sound of a frightened horse. That is the sound of a horny horse. It made this supposedly-tense sequence really funny."
What I'm saying is that if you make a thing that will appeal to [x] people you will probably get nitpicks about the thing that [x] people are passionate about/know a lot about. To be clear, these are extremely minor nitpicks and I'm really enjoying the game.

kind of a thank you letter to everyone as well as me yapping about what’s on my mind
I was never good at writing intro paragraphs lmao
for awhile I was telling myself the only way to get reblogs and likes (b/c happiness boost) on my stuff is to make fanart. It was stupid of me to think that because at first I really liked making fanart a lot but just recently I haven’t been enjoying it. And a really long time ago I saw a post that went like “Don’t force yourself to make fanart. If you create personal art, make your audience like your personal art.” And I guess I just experienced that???
can you tell I’m bad at writing
In the past couple months, a handful of you guys have gotten invested in Ranne and honestly that makes me very excited. I make art for myself and the fact that people like what’s going on in my brain is nice. I’m still on my art journey to get better and I’m glad you guys are tagging along.
That being said, I do want Ranne’s story to go somewhere. I’m sure you’ve all seen it, the image with the diver being eaten by the shark and that shark eaten by a bigger shark with the captions about lore? That’s me. I would love to get better at animating and learn how to draw comic/manga panels so I can draw my OCs fleshed out. I do dream of Ranne’s story turning into a graphic novel or web series.
Ranne reference sheet will happen as well as fleshing out Lorelei and altering Cymbeline a little bit. I do have other character designs lurking in my mind too.
To wrap it up, you’re not gonna be seeing a lot of sleep token art soon. Vessel Vs. Tangerine is on hold (if anyone wants to pick it up and take it, it’s all yours) as well as soulsborne Sleep Token. You might see some dark souls, Elden ring, and bloodborne prints soon. Ranne art is going full throttle. I plan on doing some character concept and drawing more dynamic / out of my comfort zone poses.
I love all of you dearly and I’m glad that you like Ranne and all my yapping.
Milborough for your time

On thoughts of a continuation....
I'll be honest, they probably didn't have anything initially planned beyond the series.
The thing to remember is that Bandai-Namco have been very gunshy about non-Universal Century Gundams ever since the abject and miserable failure of Gundam AGE, the underperformance of Iron-Blooded Orphans (in Japan, it had more traction in the West) and the success of Gundam Unicorn in the early-to-mid '10s. Both AGE and IBO were not UC, while Unicorn was and helped bring back some older fans that had left when the Universal Century was left behind as the main Gundam continuity for television series in the early 1990s.
Since IBO, which ended six years ago, not only have there been no mainline television series, practically everything has ever been set in the safe comfort of the Universal Century, or have been a Gunpla-based animation. (As an aside, watch Gundam Build Divers ReRise. It's actually secretly a very good Gundam series.)
G-Witch was basically them dipping their toes in the water. It's why this weekend with the series ending, they immediately released a trailer for a long awaited movie set in the most popular AU, Gundam SEED, as well as a new UC project. They had planned those announcements ages ago to cover their base if G-Witch was a failure.
That being said, because I know that sounds discouraging, Witch from Mercury is not a failure. It's basically brought Gundam back to relevance outside it's normal fandom for the first time in a long time, pulling in new viewers and new people to a franchise that, to be honest, had grown very stagnant.
I have to think that some conversations are being had, and have been had about new possibilities, they'd basically be foolish not to. Whether that means we'll see a return to the Ad Stella universe, and whether we'll see Miorine and Suletta, and when that could be, I can't say or promise, but I do think the odds are better than it was, say, this time last year.

I'd like to get this blog started by sharing an aesthetic that I absolutely love, especially in the setting of a game, and one of my favorite games, My Time at Sandrock, which follows it. It's a "post-post-apocalyptic" setting, in which the apocalypse has happened, the world was destroyed or became uninhabitable, but by the time the game (or other media) takes place, people are beginning to get on their feet again. I don't know if there's a specific name for this. I've seen "reclaimed by nature", but while that's often a part of these settings, that the ruins of the world before the apocalypse have been filled with plant and animal life over time, it's not always the case. "Hope punk" is probably the closest.
I'll probably come back to this idea a few times, but for now I'd like to talk about how well I think My Time at Sandrock embodies this aesthetic.
Tumblr media
For anyone who hasn't played or heard about the My Time series, they're super chill singleplayer (for now) RPGs where you play as the "builder" for one of the "Alliance of Free Cities" (Portia and Sandrock, in their respective games). They have a vibe very similar to Stardew Valley, where the game is based around days in the calendar year, but you can work at your own pace, build your workshop as you like, complete quests to improve the town, and socialize and form relationships with the NPCs. My Time at Sandrock is one of my favorite games of all time. It's currently my banner image, and I met one of my now best friends during the multiplayer closed beta.
My Time at Sandrock takes place in a frontier town in the Eufala Desert. It's this world's equivalent of a gold rush town, where people flocked to dig up relics and technology from the Old World (the game's term for the civilization who lived before, and caused, the apocalypse). However, most of the town's already scarce natural resources were squandered during this time, and it fell on hard times. Your job as the new Builder is to help the town get back on its feet by helping to build buildings, explore the ruins, defend from monsters alongside the Civil Corps, with the end goal of achieving prosperity for the town, sustainably this time.
The town of Sandrock is built nearby a massive ancient ruin, resembling a shopping mall, called Paradise Lost (a name which I think is referencing the "Paradise Lost" step of the Hero's Journey). This ruin is presumably what a lot of the Ruin Divers were interested in. The game has a cute, cartoony style and I love wandering through the hazardous ruins, fighting cleaning and construction robots, and wondering what they were building before the world was shrouded in darkness.
So, how did that happen?
300ish years before the game takes place, was an era described as the Age of Corruption, when technology had peaked, humans lived the high life, and robots did most physical labor. However, before long was the Day of Calamity, when the technology that the humans had built for war caused chaos and darkness across the world.
For 200 years, humans lived in darkness, mainly underground, under nuclear winter conditions while monsters owned the land above. Finally, a man named Peach built a machine to blow through the clouds, allow sunlight to reach the land, and allow humans to come out from underground and begin to rebuild civilization. This event is commemorated as the Day of the Bright Sun.
The series doesn't give much detail beyond this, but I don't think it should, unless it's the focus of a future game. It's just enough to give context to the settings, as most of their worldbuilding happens in the present, not in the past. Both games take place in a world 100 years and two or three generations after the Day of the Bright Sun. Civilization is being rebuilt, people are prospering, and there is even a religion called the Church of the Light formed around non-violence, cooperation, and opposing the use of Old World technology, as they believe it's dangerous and fear the same end as the Old World had.
Sandrock, though, has gone through this pattern again, in its own way. In their rush to strike it rich on Old World technology, the ruin divers and the city used up all of their natural resources, resulting in the trees all being chopped down, the town's oasis drying up, and the only thing left being the ruins themselves. You, as the town's new builder, are put in the empowering position of lifting up Sandrock from this situation and restoring it to its former glory.
This is the part that I love so much about My Time at Sandrock. The prospect of rebuilding an entire civilization is difficult to achieve as one character. Games like Civilization, RimWorld, and Terra Nil tackle this by making the player essentially omnipotent, giving them control over the whole developing civilization at once (or in Terra Nil's case, with wildly advanced technology). But Sandrock does this differently: By re-creating the reconstruction effort on a smaller scale, with just one town, and placing the player not at the top, in charge of everything, but as the one doing the grunt work to build bridges, buildings, lifts, farms, train tracks, and much more (though some of this has been in the pre-release multiplayer story mode). You slowly get to see this charming frontier town rise back up from the desert. Over the course of the game, you even get things like tourists appearing once you repair the train tracks. It's an absolute joy to watch your hard work come to fruition, and see the town overcome its own mini-apocalypse.
Thanks for reading! This is a topic I've wanted to share for a long time, and I'm glad I finally had the time to do it. I'd highly recommend My Time at Sandrock, especially if you're a fan of games like Stardew Valley, or aesthetics like the one I talked about here It's a super chill game, and I love playing it to relax after a long day of work or college lectures. And, if you want someone to play multiplayer Sandrock with, feel free to message me!

A Deep Dive
      Merfolk!Eddie Dear x GN!Reader
CW/TW -- Cussing, mentions of the ocean, swimming, deep diving, being stranded, near death experience via drowning, unknown sea creatures, possible large sea creature, mermaids
Summery:   You are participating in a deep sea exploration when something goes terribly wrong. You black out and when you wake up you're on an island, stranded, and are now in the company of a merfolk who doesn't speak your language. The sun is setting soon and you desperately need shelter, but this merman seems to have a delivery for you...
Tumblr media
“Gods, why did I sign up for this?” I thought as I descended into the deep waters of the ocean. I was about 1737 ft (about 529.44 m) down and counting, and my body was hurting pretty bad from the amount of pressure. It’s a miracle that my gear has survived this long and this deep. Hell, it's a miracle I've survived this deep! “Come in diver, are you alive and safe?” Echoed the earpiece in my ear.
Somehow, three years ago, someone invented an earpiece and oxygen tank duo that allowed someone to dive to extremely deep waters without damage to the equipment. Some believed that it was a witch that made it, others thought it was a hoax, but it didn’t matter since it worked.
That was how I got here, far too deep in water that could potentially kill me. “I’m here. All seems safe, I think.” I spoke, but of course, I jinxed myself. After I spoke a low rumble began, and I swore I could feel it in my chest. All a sudden the chord above me snapped, sending me deeper into a seemingly bottomless ocean.
I panicked and tried to swim up to the surface but my oxygen tank was running low and if I went up too fast it could kill me. I was stuck. I couldn’t see more than a few feet in front of me, either. I tried to look around, maybe there was a cave nearby? I didn’t find anything and I couldn't help but think, “Is this how I'm gonna die? Stuck in the ocean where no one will ever find my body?”
I heard the beeping of my oxygen tank. It ran out.
I couldn’t breathe, there was no air left.
       I blacked out.
Tumblr media
I woke up coughing. Did I drown? Is this the afterlife? I reached up to check my pulse, but I still had a heartbeat. I must still be alive, then, right?
I looked around, noticing I was on a beach. It seemed like an island since there was no sign of life other than animals and a person peeking out of the water.
...A person peeking out of the water? My head jerked towards the ocean, eyes skimming the surface before landing on a man's head above the surface of the water. “H-Hey! Can you help me? I don’t know where I am!” I shouted to try and get him to talk since his attention was already on me. It didn’t work. He turned and swam away, leaving me alone. I sighed and my shoulders slumped as my head fell into my hands.
I heard a splash and quickly looked up. The man...was back...
Holy shit, he's a mermaid. “Holy shit you have a fucking tail!” I exclaimed without thinking. He looked at me hesitantly before nodding. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself a little before looking him over. He seemed to have some sort of seal tail, but I didn’t recognize the species. His tail was white with grey freckles, though some colorful freckles, too. His upper half was orange with red hair, too. Not any sort of human, or at least a subhuman species, then.
He made a series of clicking noises and looked worried. I must've zoned out. “Uh, do you know how I got here...?” I were hesitant to ask, but it had to be done. He nodded and made some more clicks, pointing towards himself with a grin. I looked at him, surprised and confused, “So, wait, you saved me? You didn't just see me here and decide to say 'hi!' or something?” He nodded again. He seemed to understand me considering he was answering me okay.
“Okay, so am I near any sort of human civilization...?” I questioned. He shook his head with a frown. I sighed and tried not to laugh out of something akin to frustration. I groan, “Right, I was exploring the deeper waters of the ocean before the chord snapped. Wait,” I paused to look at him cautiously, “how did I survive if I was that deep with no oxygen...?” He at least looked sheepish before clicking more.
He seemed to blush before getting too flustered and jumping back into the water. "Great, now I'm alone, there’s no shelter, and its beginning to get dark." I stood up and exhaled. “Alright, let's see if I remember anything from those TikTok videos, I guess.” I walked to tree line, swatting bugs out of my face and making sure to pay heed to my surroundings and where i stood.
I didn’t walk much further, not wanting to get lost. I made a makeshift tent out of sticks, leaves, more sticks, and broken tree limbs with the leaves attached. “Gods, I hope this works, or that it doesn’t rain...” My thoughts trailed off as I heard more clicking noises in the distance. I groaned quietly, turning around and walking back towards the beach. I made sure to mark the entrance, or at least where I walked, to get to my makeshift tent.
The merman was back, and he seemed to have a sort of messenger bag with him. It was an array of colors, and I don’t know how it was so many different colors since it looked to be made out of seaweed. I mean, I can understand the greens, reds, and maybe the yellows. The blues and purples on the other hand... “You know what? I'm just gonna stop asking questions right now...” I muttered under my breath. The Mer tilted his head. I shook my head in response and he just started pulling things out of his bag.
       Were...were those fucking boxes?!
“What the actual hell...? How do those even...? I...” I was so confused. How in the hell did they even fit in there? Was it a magical messenger bag? I wouldn’t be surprised if it was considering mermaids exist. He pushes the boxes towards me with a smile. I cautiously look at the small label on it. It is addressed to me.
Okay, fuck this, this is creepy! I stare at the box for a few minutes, just contemplating on opening it or not. I don’t know whats in that box, for all I know it could kill me! Then again, what if it's somehow something useful...?
I cannot actually be considering this...

Hello! Happy pride month! I'll take this moment to say I'm a proud gender-fluid omnisexual! 🏳️‍🌈
I hope everyone is doing good, and if you aren't I hope that it gets better soon. I hope you enjoyed reading and thank you for doing so. I have a hard time writing Eddie normally so I tried something else instead. And one last thing, this is 1,064 words. It doesn't look like it, but it is.

Meet the Seiyuu: Azul Ashengrotto
Tumblr media
Azul’s VA Tamaru Atsushi first became interested in voice acting while studying for university entrance exams, when he would listen to radio shows hosted by voice actors in order to relax.
He enrolled in a voice actor training academy during his second year in university while majoring in electronics and IT. His thesis was on learning support tools for satellites; he studied at both schools simultaneously. After graduating he was accepted to his first agency through an open audition for aspiring voice actors.
Tumblr media
In an interview Tamaru says that he was the only new actor they accepted who had yet to have a lead role in any project. He says his first job was not voice acting, but for study materials.
Tumblr media
I am not sure if this is the same project he mentioned in the interview but I was able to find a 2019 English conversation study guide, “Handsome English Conversation Phrases”, for people studying English as a second language.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In a 2021 interview Tamaru said he can be a perfectionist and struggle if he doesn’t feel he'll be able to do something to perfection.
When he first started out he was very nervous in front of senpai VAs and would obsess over being polite and any bad feedback he received on set.
Tumblr media
His voice acting debut was 2009 anime “Kupu~!! Mamegoma!” at age 23.
Tamaru voiced Kunimi Akira in Haikyuu!!, but actually auditioned for the role of Kageyama Tobio.
In a 2015 interview he said that his hobby is board games and that he enjoys Dominion and Settlers of Catan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When asked, “What kind of role would you like to try in the future?” in the same 2015 interview Tamaru responded, “It is something I’ve never done before, but I would love to play a villain. I don't think my voice is suited for a villainous role, but I think I might have a chance if it were a colder-looking villain.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He has had lead roles in 17 different anime series, 25 video games, over 30 drama cds including Jewelpet, Aikatsu!, Meganebu!, The Irregular at Magic High School, The Asterisk War, Seiren, A3!, Gundam Build Divers, I-Chu, Build Divide, Gakuen Heaven 2, Touken Ranbu and more.
