I was literally obsessed with Pokemon as a child, I collected the cards, played the games and had a Pikachu backpack. I'm pretty sure It was my first special interest?

★ He seems like the kind of person to really like videogames. But he'd like PlayStation or Xbox more than anything Nintendo related. But that's just him.

★ Doesn't make fun of you for liking a video game series that is mostly targeted towards kids. You probably got into the series as a kid and still enjoy it, nothing wrong with that.

★ You both enjoy dates where you just hangout in the same room while playing different games. You occasionally turn to him to show him a new pokemon you caught or a pokedex entrie you thought was cool.

★ I can see him buying you a big Wooloo plush on your birthday or anniversary and spraying it with some fancy cologne he only wears on special occasions. Then gets kinda jellous because you want to cuddle it instead of him.

★ This guy has never played a video game (probably... he just gives off that vibe, ya know?) in his life, so he doesn't understand Pokemon. But that doesn't stop him from trying to learn!

★ When he sees that you organize your card collection by card color, generation, type and evolution stage. And on top of all that it's alphabetized? Honey he's swooning. He doesn't let anyone but you touch your card collection.

★ Yes he buys you new cards, so what? It makes you happy and he like pampering you.

★He's more interested in the series lore/story than the actual game or show. For instance, he really likes the Pokedex entries that catch you off guard with how creepy they are.

★ If you go on a little rant about the series he just smiles and nods, pretending that he understands. In return he talks to you about how important symmetry is and you do your best to listen.

Black*star

★ He's probably played at least one pokemon title, so he's pretty familiar with the series. But ultimately quit because he didn't have enough patience for it. When you came around he started playing again.

★ Definitely avoids doing homework/studying by playing with or against you, much to tsubakis dismay. He might get a bit competitive though, so be careful with that, maybe let him win a few times?

★ When the two of you have a movie night there's a 60% chance that you end up watching a pokemon movie.

The Halloween Update! (since we Mateo Vincent??? MATEO forgot to update the blog.) Part 5

Mateo is the one who is responsible for updating the website but as the last photo is his, allow me to do the honors of updating you with the finale of this... Je ne sais pas, this series? Oui, it seems to be the proper term. Mateo went in as this... hm, how curious. This is... a costume? Really? I thought he was wearing his usual outfit! Madame Ling went in as a nurse—which I was later told that she actually went as Nurse Joy from Pokémon (that surprised me), Kirra went in as Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn (Sasha a fait un travail incroyable!) And you're telling me that... Mateo wore a costume? This is a costume? Who is he even supposed to be? Himself? The colors don't fit him, he looks so... plain. Mon dieu, what a disaster. I thought he was an architecture student? Why is he—

Quoi merde—Mateo?!

Cabrón, chingas tu madre.You think you can just push me off the computer like that, homie?

The hit was unnecessary, connard!

(They continued bickering until Sasha put a stop to them both—or, more correctly, Vincent was taken away against his will as Sasha carried him on his shoulder, effectively leaving Mateo to finally do this job.)

Um... Sorry about that. You didn't have to see that, haha.

Anyway! If you ask me, I definitely had a blast at our party! It was just unfortunate that we weren't able to post videos and other photos besides the ones we have with our Little Wonders since we needed consent from the parents and the, well, sitter after party is, um... not really available to be disclosed to the public (let's just say that depressed adults are involved). But enough about that, let's talk about my lil' homies!

First things first, I love Pokémon. I still have my original Gameboy cartridges for Pokemon Blue and Red, I collect the cards, I've played all of them and I have very strong team compositions in all of my games! I thought that maybe the kids would like Pokémon and so I dressed up as one of my childhood heroes—Ash Ketchum! No kidding, I cried so hard when I watched him finally become the world champion from the episode from last year. There's news about the series finally ending, too! So it felt appropriate to give a tribute to my own personal hero.

I was planning to bring my very own 'pokémon' to the party (it was just a bunch of my exotic pets, nothing much) because the kids wanted to see them but I realized that, well, the kids are very rowdy and it would be hard to bring them. So instead I made little pokéballs for everyone!

As for my favorite buddies, I like to think that I'm putting them here because they're fun and chill to hang with! They're absolutely cute, passionate, and adorable, no one can resist these little troublemakers even if they make a mistake.

I absolutely adore Tala's sass and liveliness. She would talk to me about the Filipino telenovelas her moms would watch with her and I love her enthusiasm about learning about her culture this way. She's quite the conversationalist, too, as she never runs out of stories!

Jamie was livid when I gave him the pokéball I made and I know mi hombrecito would appreciate what I gave him. He reminded me of me due to his obsession with the action figure and cartoon character KAY/O. He's quite the lively and imaginative kid and I couldn't be more honored to have a little space in the little guy's head everyday and every night when he falls asleep.

And of course, who's going to forget lil' Sunwoo Byrne? Kid's got a huge appetite, she absolutely loves the sandwiches I made her before! I do think it's cute that both her and Jamie are fans of Pokémon given that they bond over watching cartoons and the like! Makes me feel secure knowing that there are still kids who loved cartoons as much as I did—do, since I still watch them now. They're just fun to be around with, you get me?

And unfortunately I was the last one in this batch. Maybe in the future we'll get to have another one to be included in posts like this? I don't know, but this was certainly fun to write!

Guzma headcanons that I’ve been working on!

This is mainly stuff that I’ve put together after playing the games, but also fun stuff that I thought would fit him because dear lord I’m obsessed

VERY LOUD even when talking normally to people. Is known to yell even in normal conversation

Team Skull is like his family

Him and Plumeria are besties like cmon now. Iconic disaster bi duo.

He was definitely bullied a lot as a kid until he snapped and decided to become to bully

He secretly has a soft side that no one sees except his pokemon (and YUMIKO)

He’s actually very easily manipulated but it’s not that obvious until you like- accidentally manipulate him or some shit without realizing it

Constantly acts smug as fuck even though he’s extremely insecure

Doesn’t know how to respond to affection/touch (is very touch starved)

Got into fights a lot as a kid because he tried to stick up for himself

That man wears EYESHADOW. He secretly LOVES makeup

Actually looks good in a suit but still prefers casual stuff and baggy clothes

Doesn’t know how to actually cope with his trauma and is the literal embodiment of “fuck it we ball”

Knows how to cook and clean that man is a MALEWIFE

okay so i just steamrolled thru detective pikachu returns over the past 2 days because i was sick and had nothing else better to do and right after finishing it i went into the tags and WOWIE the negative reception is very large!! i do understand and even agree with some of it but i just felt the need to get my own thoughts down (again. sick with nothing better to do) so take a peek under readmore for very typical elongated halo ramblings about his fave video game series

for the record i never played the first game (only watched a few clips of it on youtube even) but i did go see the movie in theaters. just figured i'd mention this ahead of time so my favoritism is known and to prevent myself from coming off as a perfectly unbiased reviewer

BEWARE THE SPOILERS BTW

(post-editing note: it be long under here, you have been warned)

to start off YEAG this game is not worth 50 bucks! the story's pacing is all over the place and is very basic, the graphics are not particularly well refined, the characters' expressions do not fluctuate as much as they should (professor gordon in particular ;-; i felt so bad for him), and the voice acting outside of merloch and detective pikachu himself are kinda phoned in! it felt like an early 2000s 4kids dub for real. even the gameplay aspects themselves were rather meh in presentation; the button hitboxes were annoying to deal with and as cool as i thought the "main" mechanics were they were incredibly clunky and the tension they tried to build up in the "solving the case" climaxes was just Not It. there was absolutely no reason for the loading/pauses to take that long

(the pokemon gimmicks were okay tho. i would die for growlithe)

however, this isn't a problem specific to this game. while i enjoyed scarlet it was definitely not 60 bucks material (and when i went back to it for the teal mask i even went "good lord, did it always run this badly?"). i gotta give credit to detective pikachu, at least this game ran properly for the most part and never crashed on me lmao

while that doesn't negate the criticisms i previously mentioned i simply wanted to say that this is going to be a problem for as long as pokemon keeps making money. this isn't me finger-wagging at anyone in particular (i certainly have no room to talk, i did say i liked scarlet), i just wanted to say: yeah, pokemon has been A Mess

"but halo!" you cry. "you talked like the negative reception was overblown! what gives the giant negative paragraph??"

because much like scarlet, i still really enjoyed this game sdfjnsdk. how can i say that with confidence, though, when i largely agree that there were many, many issues to be had with its performance?

the word of the day: expectations

and perhaps this is where my bias comes into it. whenever i play a spinoff game (like snap or pokepark for instance), i don't really go into it for mindblowing gameplay and stories, i do it for the same reason this series has kept me enraptured for over a decade of my life:

the pokemon themselves!!

there are SO MANY little things that the regular games don't go into, and while i have my own headcanons and OCs i can play off of, it is so much fun to see actual canon material acknowledge certain things you've only ever theorized about!!

the whimsicott were so fun to watch float around, the article asking where a furret's tail began and ended made me laugh out loud, the fact that they went hard into the "slowpoke tails are eaten as food" thing, and the "let's not get into that right now" jokes about venonat hunting other pokemon and dusknoir eating souls LIKE. i LOVE when pokemon goes into its more "serious" aspects. i know main series games do it too occasionally but outside of offhanded mentions or pokedex entries, do they go this hard into them? if they do and i'm just stupid pls tell me about it i'll eat that shit up

being reminded of less-talked-about pokemon is always a plus and how can you not pop off when you see one of your faves included in the story? (INTELEON AND WOOPER I'LL KICK THEIR ASSES 4 U) it's simply fun immersing yourself into the world of pokemon and getting a glimpse of what it would be like to have pokemon walking down the street and how that affects everyday life! maybe the story is basic, but it served its purpose and i had fun going along with it!

perhaps it's just my mental illness talking, but walking around and seeing all the pokemon and THEN doing the quiz girl's quizzes was actually kinda nice! even if the puzzles weren't that hard, i can't lie and say i didn't pump my fist when i guessed where the mystery was going like with cramorant swallowing the jewel or how the passimian statues needed to hold different berries. overall, i just enjoyed being reminded of how much i know and what i love about this series

also, the ways they incorporated the movie were pretty baller. i liked how they didn't just do a repeat of the mewtwo plot from the movie and let me tell you, even tho i called it early on, i liked that my suspicions about the aurora drop being deoxys were confirmed!! (i suppose it's not that hard to guess bcs what other pokemon comes from space, but i just recently finished playing omega ruby again and i normally don't think about deoxys a lot so LET ME HAVE THIS)

plus "i heard they made a movie about the R case" MADE ME SCREAM. i thought they were just going to ignore the movie and do their own thing but then they DID THAT. incredible. you can call my expectations low (which is valid) but holy fuck

so the TLDR for those who want this: if you want a sweet but cliche game exploring the world of pokemon with a lot of funny moments + worldbuilding, then this game is perfect for you. if you want a game with a groundbreaking story with graphics to boot, then yeah, you're not gonna find it here. i've even seen people say their own nostalgia of the original spinoff wasn't enough to get them to enjoy this game, so take my words with a grain of salt

i would say just watch compilations of the game on youtube, but not every youtuber is gonna go fully exploring the game for all of its little details, so if you care about that kind of stuff, buying the game is your best bet. also if you don't care about that kind of stuff then you should just ignore the game altogether etc etc anYwAY

as for a TLDR for the TLDR: new pokemon snap is goated and i would say a more enjoyable experience than this game esp if you didn't like it so PLEASE buy it the game's only 30 bucks and you can throw treats at pokemon PLEASE it has so many sidequests and interactions you can partake in PLEASE i prommy i won't bite PLEASE stick your fingers in my enclosure PLEASE PLEASE PLE

an EXCELLENT question! but my answers my be a little disappointing, because...

Favorite Movie of 2023

i don't... really watch movies? they don't capture my interest or investment like games do. this isn't for lack of trying over the years, i've been exposed to many different genres; i just don't click with the format, i guess. i think of them like the average boomer thinks of games – they're cute little distractions and not much else.

there's definitely a few movies that i like and stand out as formative memories, i just don't go out of my way to watch more. even before the pandemic i would only ever go to the theaters like once a year, and for most of the pandemic i can't say i watched anything even digitally.

...but that did change this year! my partner and i watched both Sonic movies and the Mario movie at home, and of the three i can safely say i enjoyed Sonic 2 the most! i like what it was trying to do with its two stories intertwined, and it gave Sonic and friends a lot of time to shine both in action and characterization. plus the finale was super cool~

i do have a handful of films i want to watch one day... but it's kind of a "whenever i feel like it" basis. the ghibli films are high on the list, as are the monty python films and the truman show. maybe i could revisit ferris bueller's day off now that i'm an adult...?

Favorite TV Show of 2023

...i also don't really watch tv?? am i boring???

i mean, historically, i've gotten more into tv than movies. i like the long continuous plot threads, i like getting to know characters in detail, i like slice of life and comedy and cartoons. i have fond memories of watching sonic x, spongebob, survivor, and mythbusters growing up!

but like, as an adult i've never seen the office, or steven universe, or adventure time... and i'm in no rush to, they're just not really priority for me. i can't even think of other shows i might want to watch. idk!

i tried to watch some anime at one point but that didn't really do me either? i guess i had some fun watching squid girl a few years back... i think i just get understimulated by just watching things, vs playing them.

confusingly, you know what i do get into? livestreams and let's plays. so my weird, cop-out answer of "favorite series" is that i've been really enjoying Chuggaaconroy's let's play of pokemon bw2. his let's plays have gotten me caught up with a series that i wasn't "allowed" to play as a kid... i guess that's part of why watching someone play a game isn't as understimulating to me?

Favorite Album of 2023

you can probably guess where this is going – i don't really listen to music that plays on the radio or gets recommended by spotify. i have good reason for this one though: music with lyrics is overstimulating to me in specific circumstances, like when i'm working (always) or driving (the only time i'd use the radio).

but wait, movies are understimulating, even though there's talking... and music with lyrics is overstimulating, even though there's nothing to watch... argh! i don't even understand myself!!

either way i usually put on video game music, because that helps me focus at work, and (usually) doesn't have lyrics in it. i'm aware there's plenty of great instrumental music outside of just games, but games already have so much variety and quality to their osts – i've rarely ever had to seek out more! my music collection is already big enough!

my favorite album to listen to this year has been the music that plays in the cyberspace stages of Sonic Frontiers. the full game's ost is MASSIVE and incredibly diverse in styles, but the hardcore EDM of the cyberspace stages is extremely my style. and the remixes they added in the dlc are some of the best ones! been listening to the full playlist multiple times a week all year to power through some rough work days, and it still hasn't gotten old 💖

Every Game I Played in 2023, Ranked

I debated moving this list to Cohost (after all these years, the Tumblr text post interface still makes me want to punch a wall) but whatever, here we are! Keeping it relatively short this year.

A lot of the games I played aren't going to be on this list because I don't have much new to say about them (MTG, Dwarf Fortress, Strive, etc), but for those that I do, here's the games I played this year.

SD Gundam Battle Alliance - 2022 - Steam - ★★★

I really wanted to like this- you know I like me some Gundam- but the experience is simultaneously too thin, too grindy, and bereft of stakes. There's nothing like "oh no we have to preserve the Gundam metaverse from hackers ruining the archived story!" to make me go to sleep.

There's something about the progression system of every "hey, gotta catch 'em all!"-ish Gundam games that is designed exclusively for people who either played these games in the early 00s, or people with addictive personalities. There's been little in the way of evolution. Yeah, the gameplay here is different as a sort of Action RPG, but this is far more Dynasty Warriors than it is say Armored Core.

Just not for me!

... Where's my new Super Robot Wars at damn it?

9. Pokemon Scarlet/Violet DLC - 2023 - Switch - ★★★★

I talked last year about how I mostly liked this game in spite of its many, many issues. The DLC mostly plays to SV's strengths: fun plot and characters, improved open world catching system from Sword/Shield. They also run considerably better, due to a year of opportunity to make things more stable and address bugs.

That said: It doesn't address any of the other issues that have always been there. Open world exploration becomes kind of pointless when you have the ability to invalidate any level geometry. There is such a thing as too much mobility, believe it or not, when you can just jump over everything. At the same time, the ways cutscenes work is soooo slowwwww, to the point that getting through them to the "action" can be quite tedious.

This DLC also continues the unfortunate thing that drives me nuts about all these DLC, that the level scaling is just awful. It basically assumes you have done literally nothing since finishing Scarlet Violet, and not engaged at all with the post game. Which hey, works out for Lil Timmy who is experiencing this DLC in-line with the base game or only after beating it (since it does dynamically scale for earlier progression), but it makes the whole thing kind of a rote exercise for those who actually played the game more than that?

I realize this is multiple decades now of me barking that hey, it'd be nice if Pokemon didn't exclusively try to appeal to 5 year olds, which is definitely a lost cause at this point. We don't even get stuff like Battle Towers or Frontiers anymore really. Ah well!

8. Street Fighter 6 - 2023 - Steam - ★★★★

Ok, here's the thing: Street Fighter 6 is overall a very good game, lots of care and polish, but I got a few bones to pick with it.

1. I kind of hate its input buffer. Just drives me nuts, particularly with how it handles supers and specials with overlapping inputs.

2. World Tour while is neat, the progression of it is so goddamn grindy and miserable. So much HP for enemies as you go on, and you don't have access to a fighter's full skill set even at the very end due to how special "slots" work.

3. The cast feels too safe. I like the new additions a lot, and in general the old chars have been rendered quite well, but there's just not a lot of innovation going on. The system mechanics are quite good, but it's the thing where no one on the cast really calls out to me. Personal taste thing.

Marvel's Spider-Man - 2022 - Steam - ★★★★

I don't think I have anything particularly unique to say about The Spider-Man Experience beyond hey: that's a pretty good Spider-Man. I think the DLC was obnoxious as shit, and a number of the decisions tied to box-checking-completionist stuff were mean for someone like me who has the stupid brain that thinks it's important to do Everything no matter how tedious it is, but overall: a good Spider-Man. Some of the villain stuff felt pretty weak though.

7. Resident Evil 4 Remake - 2023 - Steam - ★★★★★

A great remake! They trimmed down some areas a fair but, but none of them particularly egregious (some of them, particularly a last act boss being removed, was quite appreciated), and the mechanical additions are fun.

Does it invalidate the old version? I dunno, maybe?

6. We Love Katamari Re:Roll - 2023 - Steam / Switch - ★★★★★

Hey, you know what's also a very good game? We Love Katamari. Not much new to say beyond hey: the name is accurate, and you should buy and play it. I liked it enough to buy it twice on two platforms, which is silly but it gave me the excuse to play more Katamari so quite understandable.

A thing that does annoy me about the game is them reusing certain models from the other Katamari Remake, even when they were deliberately replaced in We Love Katamari and are even called out as different in the item descriptions despite not being so. Arrgh. It doesn't really matter, but I got the dumb brain for that kind of thing.

5. Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising - 2023 - Steam - ★★★★★

A fighting game that I enjoyed years past now has actually good netcode! The mechanical additions have been very nice, and I've been enjoying myself grinding away for my meager gains. It's also funny having skipped all the base game's DLC and coming in now, since it's like this release just added 20 more chars I'd otherwise not engaged with before.

A ton of polish has made this a fantastic package across the board, so many smart decisions and little details. I'm sure for GranBlue gacha fans it's probably incredible as something that pays tribute as well.

… but see, my main annoyance with the game mostly ties to being unable to stand the source material it pulls from. It's not enough to diminish my positive feelings for the game, but none the less: man, everything about the lore and characters themselves just does NOTHING for me. This is nothing particularly unique to GranBlue itself even, it's pretty in line with how I feel about every gacha title that exists to roll out chars and appeal to as many niches as possible without real forward movement or actual story, but hey here we are.

Looking forward to that 2B.

4. Baldur's Gate 3 - 2023 - Steam - ★★★★★

A game I admittedly haven't completed yet (I got up to a certain kidnapping in the last act and had to set it aside due to stuff repeatedly coming up for the past couple months) but still: this is a very good tactical RPG. I enjoy the writing, characters, and gameplay quite a lot. A ton of polish went into this.

I don't think I have much to say about it that hasn't been said by others, especially with all the Discourse that has circled it for months-to-years now across Early Access into release.

If there's one thing that does kind of annoy me about the game design, it's the way the player characters are handled. You have the option during character creator to create a character with a number of character-build-y backgrounds, or use their pre-built characters that have existing stories. This choice is lose-lose.

A fully custom character is blank, unimportant. There's nothing special about them beyond their affinity with a certain orb and being Protagonist Man. Their background doesn't really matter, even as you express your personality. You have nothing behind you that meaningfully comes up or affects the story (no Gorion, etc) beyond your role in the conflict. In other words, there's not a lot of reason for you to exist except as a cypher for the named characters.

Playing one of the named characters also sucks, because you lose those the writing for those characters. If I'm stuck aping Karlach, I have no Karlach in my party. You barely even get voice acting once you choose to play those characters either. You effectively end up with less writing and characterization, which kind of sucks! Yes, you do get your backgrounds being looped in and mattering more, which is indeed something, but not enough.

There is secretly a third option that, the more I think about it, is the correct one, they just don't tell you it. You can choose your character background to be tied to the Dark Urge, which results in a lot unique interactions, gives your character an actual background and comes up, etc. They don't outright make this the main option presumably because it comes with a lot of baggage (which, yeah, it does), but it seems completely worth it by comparison to just flitting through the story as either a ghost or the phantom of a real character.

3. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective Remastered - 2023 - Steam - ★★★★★

Play Ghost Trick.

2. Armored Core VI - 2023 - Steam - ★★★★★

From Software continues to not miss. Fantastic game, some of the most satisfying mecha combat I've played. Story is great; it's still your usual "oops we're not explaining much other than in medias res or by circumstantial details" that From Soft has continued to double down on, but I really enjoy that stuff so hey. I 100%'d this game, got all the endings etc. Great stuff.

Really want some proper DLC so I can do even more, though.

1. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - 2023 - Steam - ★★★★★

Let's face it: this wasn't going to end any other way. Breath of the Wild is probably my favorite game of all time, and this is basically just more of that, remixed and remastered into a Second Quest that builds on the first one.

Something I kept thinking about while playing is that while there is volumetrically more to do, more things happening, more mechanics, etc etc, the different approach it takes in terms of focus and approach doesn't make it necessarily a "strictly better" version of Breath of the Wild.

Breath of the Wild was deliberately spare, quiet, and minimalist. Like the name says, its about the quiet wilderness, a poignant world that you explore. Tears of the Kingdom drops much of that, in many ways turning into a kooky madcap version of BOTW. You don't spent nearly as much time smelling the roses and taking in the scenery, as you're often too busy blasting by using any number of the new movement abilities or combat tools or literal flying machines you can now Nuts and Bolts together.

It's a deliberate escalation, one that in my opinion requires the preceding part to work. They add together into one complete singular experience, rather than pulling against each other. That's awesome, exactly what I wanted. Now I get to have two favorite games of all time that are secretly just one-and-the-same.

Some minor thoughts:

1. Lots of great writing and characterization, built up well on BOTW there.

2. It's kind of funny how much it goes out of the way to avoid talking much about BOTW in case someone plays this game first.

3. The last of a Master mode this time around is kind of a bummer but oh well!

4. The vehicle crafting system and everything about it, including the way it plays into the existing physics system is fucking insane. Absolutely incredible game design. Bonkers.

I'm really curious how the hell they're going to follow these games up. Going back to square-0 from this formula- one that is so built up and diverse, seems like it'd be impossible to me. What the hell could you do? Looking forward to finding out.

Probably my favourite things that I've posted this year was Dawn and well. haha. (nuts) because they were both very self-indulgent in a way that I always enjoy writing with codywan, though for very very different reasons.

What’s something you’d like to create content for?

I want to write more Aloy femslash!! I've written so much for her, but none really with the characters from the new game, and now with a canon femslash kiss under her belt, I think she deserves to be a wlw icon. Next year for femslash February I'm thinking of trying to organise a Horizon event to get some momentum not just for me but for others to create too

What’s something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year?

I can maybe half say the Horizon: Forbidden West DLC - I liked the overarching plot well enough, and they gave Aloy a lesbian kiss so I'm not too mad, but it carried over almost all of the issues from production that the base game had, which I was keen to see fixed in the DLC. That and the lack of backstory for Seyka or the Quen, the lack of side quests and the lack of interesting stuff to do in the wilds of the DLC made it a bit of a mediocre experience for me (though after HFW I wasn't expecting anything too good anyway).

What’s a hidden talent of yours?

Not sure if it's hidden, but I'm particularly good at spotting double spaces in a document. Pisses me off (it's my editor brain going haywire... my team is always making fun of me for this at work lmao)

Hello! Sorry I'm answering late to this, had a busy week.

Sooo I suppose this is about modern Hange's daily life! I haven't really thought of modern AU in general but this sounds fun, especially because now that you mention she would have loads of games on her iPad I have to mention the ONE headcanon I read about a while ago, that has stuck with me forever. That one headcanon is the absolute truth to me. I'm so sad I can't credit it properly because I don't remember who posted it, but that genius of a fellow Tumblr user pointed out Hange would have this song set as default tone for her mobile. And honestly, I can't unsee this lol

Anyway, this one wasn't mine, so have some of my own:

(using she/her pronouns since the ask uses these)

- Her laptop's desktop is a mess. She "loses" folders or documents once or twice a week. "Leviii I swear I did nothing! Nothing at all! They just keep disappearing, I didn't even click on anything"

- She goes to bed at ungodly hours, but despite the lack of sleep she does not have even the slightest hint of eyebags. Lucky one.

- Yes, iPad with 1000 games but only uses two or three. She still plays Fruit Ninja. One of her favorites is Among Us, especially when she gets impostor. She does get caught most of the times though, because she's too impatient and ends up being uhm not-so-stealthy.

- Oh and she definitely plays Pokemon Go. Opens it once a year really, but she never ever got rid of the app on her phone.

- Sings in the shower. She's definitely not a good singer, yells too much and is constantly out of tune.

- Do not ever look at her YouTube playlist. Most random videos on that. You can find silly songs such as Narwhal, Dewgong and Capibara, and then a bunch of random science videos. Has watched videos about how Romans pooped and Roman baths like a hundred times. Her favorite YouTube thing is still the llama Carl though.

- Has a lot of plants in the house but they're all dead or about to die. She has a little plant that somehow has managed to survive and sticks with her. She talks to the plant as if it was a pet.

- She will never admit it to Levi, but when she does not want to do the dishes, she eats straight out of the pan.

- Wouldn't be bad at cooking, but lacks the patience for elaborate dishes. Ends up cooking very quick things and eats a lot of pasta with different sauces because that's quick. She also has it al dente, not because she knows that's how it should be done, but because it's quicker.

- Can't stand when it's hot in summer and strolls around the house with just her panties on. The neighbors on the opposite building have seen her naked through the windows more than once. She just does not bother to pull the curtains.

- Sleeps on her back most of the times and snores a lot.

- Her natural time to wake up in the morning is around 11 am. Before that, she can wake up but feels extremely groggy.

- Owns plushies. But not teddy bears and common stuff. She has an axolotl plushie, a kiwi bird plushie, a dodo and a platypus.

- She has this thing to go the beach or the pool. She loves it.

Hiiii! Thanks so much for the warm welcome! I'm definitely excited to start posting art (and possibly fics) here real soon and get to know other Submas fans better!

As for how I discovered Submas- it's quite an odd story. Roughly 7 years ago my friend showed me a screenshot of N and Emmet, with Emmet running away with N's toy trains. I'll post the picture here in a bit. But I thought it was hilarious and saved it to my own phone. I was a little curious about who Emmet was (especially since it was clear he was associated with trains, which I've loved all my life) but I never really gave it much thought after that. Fast forward to about a day after Legends Arceus released, I meet Ingo. But I didn't know he was Ingo- I thought he was Emmet. I kinda forgot about Emmet over the years so when I saw Ingo I was like "Oh, silly train guy is here. What's his name again? Emmet?" But as the minutes passed I started remembering what Emmet looked like, with the white uniform and smile. And this man looked nothing like him but also exactly like him. I thought maybe I was imagining things, until Ingo introduced himself, and I started to connect the dots: Emmet has a twin.

So I do more research and find out they're known as the Subway Bosses, from Pokemon Black and White (my favorite Pokemon games) and that they're Battle Facility leaders. I start looking into them more, finding Battle Subway fanart and reading fics, and as I played Legends Arceus more I became super attached to Ingo. And it wasn't long before I got attached to Emmet too! I started to really fall down the Submas rabbit hole in late February 2022- February 22nd to be exact, as that was my first Multi Battle with Ingo and Emmet. (I got destroyed lol)

Oh yeah here's the photo I mentioned earlier:

I kinda laugh at the thought that this photo introduced a future favorite character, and that it had such a big effect 7 years later.

As for which twin I like more... It's both! There's something to love in both Ingo and Emmet, and I'll probably make a ramble post in the future about everything I love about them!

(Also I completely relate to the collection of Submas merch, my Battle Subway sticker book arrived today lol)

I've been replaying fire emblem fates conquest lately. I always skip through the story of it because the story is fucking ass. Like I HATE the story ok, it's BAD. But the gameplay... well.... I kid you not this game is actually pretty damn fun. Like the maps are actually really well designed and challenging.

Let me give you a good example.

Chapter ten, baby. This map... I would marry this map but I can't but if I could I would. So basically in the back you got these spaces that you have to defend. That's the green squares in the screenshot I pulled from google images up there.

If an enemy gets to one of those green squares, its game over. You have 11 turns to protect these squares. Enemies come in from every direction, with your army of like 8 people dropped right in the middle.

Enemy reinforcements are sent in during the later portion of the mission, and in the last, I think 5 turns or so, the rivers are drained causing them to rush towards your guys and the point you're defending even faster, causing the battle to grow increasingly frantic and desperate.

Amazing level, probably the best in the game, but the others are badass too, and pretty challenging. You actually will be replaying these a lot due to all the game overs u will definitely get and it never gets old because the devs were.... actually creative with their level design? Say what?! Didn't know they ever could be after I went through Awakening!

Another thing about this game: You can't grind for gold or EXP, and so you have limited resources and weak characters. That sounds evil, it is evil, but it's part of the challenge and what makes it fun.

Now there is one limitation in this game I DO have to complain about. That being the waifus and husbandos.

Now most people only play these games to see all the sexy ass bitches that are available to join your army. Now, I ain't no lesbingo so that already cuts off most of the characters from my zone of interest. And this game has a track-record for being bought just to look at Boobala the Teated One over here. So if I was a sapphos of lesbos I guess my needs would be satisfied.

But let's look at the men in this game, too, cause maybe they got something for me here!

Deez bitches ain't shit, maaann! Why'd I waste my money on this crap!

Like I feel nothing towards any of these cuck ass bitches, maaan! They look so GOOFY!

Also note that this is my personal preference speaking here, maybe you were like ooo that guy was aight actually. That's cool. The thing is... they aren't really for me. Not my type.

See, this series also has a bit of a trackrecord for not including men who are really my type in them. BUT WHAT IF I TOLD YOU THEY DID AND IT WAS IN THIS GAME. Get a load of this dude! (his name's Senno by the way)

You probably think I'm fucking weird for going nuts over this guy, but I'm not okay >:( he's a silly little dweeb wearing glasses and I think he has a cute face and probably has a really nice body under all dem clothes I mean you can kinda see his peks a lill bit and that makes my pupils expand.

The problem is, you know, they got this guy who's actually my type, right, but they don't let you marry him. You can capture him from the enemy team and let him join your army... but you can't talk to him, can't bond with him, and therefore, by extension, can't marry him.

And when you marry a character in these games shit gets weird. Not only can you have a kid with them (nothing happens on screen but I get to picture it in my head which is enough for me) but they have this weird like pokemon anime esque tapping minigame (non 3ds users must be so confused rn) where you just use the stylus to like, tap on the dude/girl's face to "wake them up" from falling asleep when you come to visit them in your house. It's fucking creepy, man. Like really creepy. But it wouldn't be with this guy! Because he's clearly fucking creepy, too, or at least terribly horny, that's my headcanon anyway due to his very mild resemblance to a certain special someone I always talk about on this blog who is ALSO terribly horny among being terribly many other things. It's consensually, mutual bizarre. And I think that's beautiful.

But such beauty can never come to fruition! I mean... I mean why the fuck did I even buy this game if I can't do that? Like, what's even the point?!

Fuck chapter ten man, fuck the good game play. I don't give a shit about that no more. I can't. I'm sad.

Intelligent Systems, please add Senno to Fire Emblem Heroes. I'll actually buy that stupid game and pay actual money to get this bitch on my team. I will give you MY ENTIRE BANK ACCOUNT for my waifu.

also if rule 34 artists could get to work for me, maybe someone make a fanmade support conversation chain between senno and the female avatar going from C to S that would be great.

heyyyy, you are very courageous to activate this topic since I've been currently busy with the scarvi dlc, but my all time fave's

NOIVERN

I don't even remember when I used it for the first time and how I fell so in love with it (it definitely wasn't the anime tho, I barely watched it). I just know I saw this funny bat and I fell in love.

Usually when thinking about Noivern I think about my Noivern oc Wydra, who's just a little chaotic berry thief of a threat. Very silly, bery casual. but i did a flying-type only run of pokemon Y not so long ago and Cloudburst the noivern I used there was also a fun one to play with (alongside Acerbus my beloved (mega)aerodactyl)

Noivern might not be on the same level as many other dragon-flying types, but it's the best one in my heard, and with a very good speed, decent special attack and a powerful boomburts, plus stabs, and fire coverage, it does hit quite well. And thus I often want to include one in my playthroughs of games, but I try to moderate it since I want to diversify the pokemon I use (that's the reason I did the flying run in Y; perfect excuse to have both Noivern AND aerodactyl and other pokemon in my team).

A few of my other all-time favs are the delphox and primarina line (I do have a weakness for the furbaits, sorry not sorry). Swampert was also my first pokemon and i'll always carry some special fondness for it.

alolan ninetales and togekiss also have a special place in my heart, for oc and playthrough reasons. Togekiss is very fun to use on an adventure team and I have one old alolan ninetales oc (I will probably never talk about them here because it's not something i'm too proud of, but maybe if I revamp them fully?). Also a shiny Eevee I randomly got in pokemon legends arceus is The Shiny Eevee for me. It's level 100, but I refuse to evolve it. it'll be my wonderful little baby eevee forever <3. ALSO Giratina. I shiny hunted one in ultra sun and this little baby is my beloved

Paldea right now is also making me have a lot of fun with the new pokemon.

I LOVE Meowscarada, Glimmora, Chi-Yu and Walking Wake. these four are setpieces of my ultimate team in scarlet. they're my little blorbo's. Chamomille the silly Meowscarada, Erebos my calm and competent (aka ruthless) Glimmora, Tyche the max spe-att, full ev-iv trained, beads of ruin, flamethrower, maxxed metronome, tera fire Chi-Yu (nothing survives this, they made a goldfish so murderous) and Walking Wake, the goofy dino-suicune

Pokemon Go

A little over a week ago, I redownloaded Pokemon Go to help me both with going out for walks and incentivizing exposure therapy (going to new places, etc.). And its honestly been working! I've been for a walk at the park, walking around different stores, working more in the yard, and exploring my local area and nearby towns.

I haven't played it since 2018 so there is so much that is new and confusing to me, but I think I'm getting the hang of it! And it is so much fun! When it first came out, it brought me a very unique sense of happiness. As much as I was still very socially anxious then, I was in college and it got me doing laps around the campus instead of just sitting for 40 minutes between classes (I had a long commute). My agoraphobia hadn't skyrocketed and made me housebound yet. I want that confidence back.

I feel very safe in the town I live in now, like I did in the city I went to university in. The game is getting me out more, yes. But it is also showing me how much I have improved in the last couple years mentally and I could honestly cry. The fact that I'm deciding if I want to return my library book today or Monday and the consideration is on the weather and has nothing to do with the idea of leaving my house means so much!

One of the many things that is completely new to me is gifts and postcards. There was still no inter-player aspect to the game outside of gym battles when I was still regularly playing it. And none of the friends I had back then were still playing. I literally could only tell you who one of them was and my brother definitely has not played since it came out and he never really got into it.

The gifts I get; the postcards, I have no idea what that's about.

I live in the southern US. I've heard there's region based things to the game now that's relevant to the postcards and friends, but I still don't know much about that either lol

While I love Mike Pollock I have seen some tweets of him suggesting that he just doesn't want to be known for his work as Eggman and wants to discuss his other works more, he also liked the tweets of Flynn saying the same thing, I feel bad cause I send him a compliment for Eggman, do you know some of his other works? would like to know his other characters

Yeah, he's been trying to emphasize that for a long time and I don't know why some people have a problem with that because of course he'd want people to check out his other work, instead of only acknowledging his Sonic-related stuff and acting like he's just Eggman no matter what he does and nothing more, overlooking tons of his other great work that's entirely separate from it and is absolutely worth checking out. It's great that you have an interest in doing so and I'm happy to help you get started. :D

I've looked at a ton of his stuff over the years but he has hundreds and hundreds so I still haven't seen them all but I try to check out everything that's available to me. I've heard him in a bunch of TV shows, video games, movies, audio dramas, commercials. I have a game where practically every elderly guy in the game has his voice, Just Cause 3 lol. I have a plush that's voiced by him too!

I first heard him in Sonic X, Viva Pinãta, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003 show, and Pokemon around the same time because of 4Kids dubbing. My favorite singular other roles of his that I've heard have to be Langston Lickatoad, the Garbageman, and Adon Coborlwitz. Though he's got a ton of other great roles in a bunch of stuff that's also definitely worth checking out.

That definitely doesn't have everything in it though. There's stuff that isn't supposed to be general public knowledge and other things that haven't been listed on here yet. But it's still one of the ideal places to look! I enjoy picking any character, looking into how to find and listen to it, and the joy of being like "there he is!" when I find his voice in there and get to hear more of his incredible talent hehe.

6 Questions Game

1. Last Song? - I went through Prince's albums "Purple Rain" & "Parade". I had a LONG commute today into town and it was rainy on and off. The music got me out of a bad funk from the weather. Left off on his song Kiss. That one's fun! I know he's got controversy even in death as a person, but I like Prince as an artist.

2. Last show? - I don't have cable/network and use streaming services mostly. I'm not into too much at the moment. Nothing has really got my attention TV wise. Last Sunday I did catch The Last of Us on HBO Max. Wasn't a bad ep.

3. Currently watching? - I've been re-watching True Blood. When I was in high school and everyone was on a Twilight craze, this was my jam, my peanut butter, and my bread. After season 4 it honestly tanked for me. I wish it ended on better terms or was more aligned with the books. It's been fun though revisiting and remembering why I liked a lot of the characters as a kid, and remembering how my mom lost her shit at me watching this but my gram was like TELL ME WHEN THE NEXT EP IS OUT I LOVE IT! 😂

4. Currently reading? - I finished reading Dinosaurs: A Novel by Lydia Millet, and I'm currently on The Fictional Man by Al Ewing.

The first novel centers around the main character healing through his traumas and finding purpose in life again by connecting with others. The book is literally the embodiment of "enjoy the little things". The plot isn't too deep but its enough to give you pause and think about irrelevant moments that actually mean you're living. There's some good dinosaur metaphors in here too.

The second one is hella interesting (arguably too if you're into fandom stuff or have fictional crushes). From my understanding of the world thus far, "Fictionals" are created humans (either by cloning or advanced robotics idk yet) that represent, well, fictional characters that people love. Once the novelty wears off, many get discarded. I'm not sure if the main character is one yet, but it's been a fun read so far. Makes me sad too cause if this kind of tech was possible, I could definitely see abandonment being a thing.

5. Current obsession? - I don't think it's any surprise I've been on an FFXV binge for several months (and splurging on a crush on a fictional 2000 year old garbage pimp jesus dude). I've been playing a lot of Hades on top of it, and revisiting Death Stranding.

6. Unrelated obsession? - Pokemon, Resident Evil, FFX, FF7, FF8, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Gundam, etc. I have a lot for fandom. Stuff outside of it I'm obsessed with are paleontology, space, and herpetology.

Snack Pack Adventures #3: A Crystal Clear Nuzlocke

It’s been awhile since we’ve played Crystal Clear, so let’s get back to that! Last time we were here, we let Pringle just dominate in the Bug Gym. Coming up next, we have a forest to go through and another Gym!

We do not have a Rival Fight here, unlike in regular Crystal, so we can just make our way through Ilex Forest. MTN DEW will move up front because ‘cause he knows Hypnosis, and we could really use some more friends for the team. Our first encounter was an Oddish, which almost took out MTN DEW, but we swap out to Pringle and manage to get a new friend!

I’ve named them Potato. I’m a little nervous about Whitney now. I’m not sure that we have a good way to get a fighting type before Whitney, and I don’t want to travel too far away from Goldenrod to see what we can get. Maybe the Game Corner will have something?

The Hiker out in front of Union Cave wants a battle! Let’s walk back and see how it goes. Maybe get Celery a level or so! It’s a Geodude then a Machop, an easy battle. Or so I thought, I change into Pringle for Machop and they almost get destroyed by Low Kicks. I change back to Celery and finish out the battle with Petal Dance. Let’s get back through Ilex.

Ilex is actually really uneventful. Crystal Clear opens up the entire forest, meaning no puzzle to get Cut. So we basically just walk through and get to Route 34 for our next encounter. Let’s see who we get!

A Drowsee! I love psychic types, and while I’d definitely rather an Abra, this is fine! I’ve named them PBJ, they’ll likely go on the team when we get the Exp Share after the Red Gyarados in… wherever, I can’t remember.

We get to the Day Care and I think it’s time to let Pringle get some time to rest. I also accidentally swapped Peck for Hypnosis, so I really can’t use them for much until I get better moves later. But also, we should be getting an Egg, so that’ll be a fun surprise for later!

We finally get to Goldenrod. I deposit MTN DEW and check the Game Corner to see if we can get a new friend. When I go to the counter I realize I don’t have a Coin Case, so I need to go look for that. As I do I run into Bill! He’s got an Eevee just for me! I don’t know what I’ll evolve Eevee into, but we’ll figure that out. My wife named them French Fry.

I go down into the Underground and… I think I may have met my match.

You see, I was trying to fight everyone in the Underground for some extra experience cause I was thinking about getting Salt evolved, or as close to it. I am doing alright until I talk to a burglar named Frank, who opens with a level 22 Bayleef. It uses Solarbeam over and over and over, and the only think I can do is try to Sleep Powder and get some hits in. I have no Pokemon on the team that can do anything. If Salt, our highest level Pokemon, gets hit once they’re gone. Celery can hang in there okay, but can’t do enough damage. With Celery at 12/51 HP, and the Bayleef asleep, I decide to switch into Salt and see if we can get a high-damage Magnitude off. Magnitue 7 does… not enough. BBQ doesn’t have any Flying type moves, Sprite is level 8 and has nothing useful, and French Fry is level 10 and also knows nothing useful. I think this may be it for us. While Bayleef is still asleep, we try a Tackle. It does almost as much damage, and I notice something: This Bayleef is consistently healing a little bit of health every turn. I think we’re gonna die here.

Bayleef wakes up and starts a Solarbeam, and I switch Celery in to take the hit. We’re at 6/51 HP now. They charge a Solarbeem, I try for Sleep Powder which misses. There’s nothing we can do, Celery isn’t fast enough to go first and sleep them before the Solarbeem hits, but maybe Solarbeem will miss? It hits, and Celery goes down. I send out Celery next to hit some Sand Attacks, which might stop the bleeding. But we still have the issue of damage output. Any one Pokemon who gets hit by Solarbeam will go down, and Bayleef is regaining HP every turn. French Fry goes down. I send in BBQ and hope Leech Life can do okay. Bayleef starts using Curse? But Leech Life isn’t doing near enough damage, Bayleef’s HP is basically completely healed every turn. I use a Supersonic and hope confusion damage can help us out. It hits itself… and it doesn’t do much damage, either. With all the Curses, the next hits any of our Pokemon take will go down. But still, we must keep trying.

As we’re still in this battle, I’m noticing something: I think Bayleef has run out of attacking moves. It stopped using Solarbeam, and is now only using Reflect, Curse, and Sweet Scent. Are we going down to Struggle? At this point I’m just letting BBQ drain it’s PP for Struggle, and I think that’s all Bayleef can do, too. On our first Struggle… I’m fairly certain BBQ only does 1 damage. It’s so over. I swap to Salt to see if we can get a bit more damage output and outpace the self-healing, and we really can’t. With the Reflects and Curses, we’re doing so little damage. Maybe Bayleef’s Struggle recoil will help us out? Whenever it actually gets to Struggle.

Finally Bayleef does Struggle, and even with my full Defense Curl’d Salt, it does 8 damage per turn. It’s so over. After a handful of Struggles, Salt goes down. One Struggle takes down Sprite. One Struggle takes out BBQ.

The run is over.

Well, that sucked! Between our bad luck with catches & encounters, just not being ready to deal with such a high level starter, and not having anything for a grass type on the team, I’m not surprised this happened. I am incredibly disappointed, regardless.
