Been a bit, but I finally resumed drawing the team! This time it's our local ex-Karrakin-Baron-turned-fitness-junkie-and-shoe-magnate, Artyom, otherwise known by the squad as Peepaw. Picture Teddy Roosevelt crossed with Gwyneth Paltrow and that's Artyom. Needless to say he's not in line to inherit anything anymore.
Despite Artyom being a more humorous character, he might actually have the most dramatic background out of all of us. The GM definitely has fun playing Game of Thrones when it comes to Karrakis...

So, I absolutely adore this moment, because it perfectly illustrates how much Hank and Abigail's relationship has changed, from Whedon's Astonishing, to Ellis' Astonishing, to now. They no longer are just fuckbuddies, they are no longer people who happen to care for one another, they are . . . well.
They're boyfriend and girlfriend now, a label they were actively avoiding in Ellis' Astonishing, and it was painfully clear that Abby had already caught feelings in the Kaga arc because she was working so hard to protect Hank from something she knew would hurt him if he ever found out. And now? Now, Hank has absolutely caught feelings right back.
Look at the way Abigail goes from screaming in annoyance, from yelling in every panel and an entire speech bubble in bold, to quiet and smiling. Hank soothes and boosts her, cheers her up, bolsters her confidence, reminds her that they're both just - good. Not just good at their jobs, but them, as a couple, they're good now.
It also throws Hank's characterisation into sharp relief. This is why Hank is so happy, this is why he's so funny, this is why he isn't taking it seriously - because this is easy! This is fun! Yes, it's serious, of course it's serious, but it's the kind of serious he's good at! This isn't bioweapons or laser strikes or neutron bombs or X-Force, this is superhero work, and he has missed it so much.
A giant Transformer just blew a hole in their special gizmo, is threatening them with an oversized gun, and they can afford to be snarky, because this isn't going to be hard. They're confident. They're happy. They have each other.
What more do they need?

Blackthorne: Look, all I'm saying is that spending a Full Action to mark a character and make yourself completely immobile for the chance of bonus damage isn't effective or engaging gameplay. I'm using a Railgun for this, right? Why would I ever spend an entire round thinking about how much damage I could be doing with it when instead I could spend that round actually firing it?
Mariko: The Anjin sees great potential in improving the Death's Head's Core System.
