knitting, a head canon list.
Wei Wuxian: can not knit. He could sit still and focus, probably, but the patterns for the more fun stuff are hard to find and he dropped like three stitches so he doesn't want to do it anymore.
Jiang Yanli: knits blankets to destress and winds up going down a rabbit hole of stuffed animal patterns and now Jin Ling has like thirty stuffed animals knitted by his mom in his nursery. The number is steadily increasing.
Jiang Cheng: can't count stitches, winds up with holes in everything but tries.

spoilers for season 4 of stranger things. Discussing ableism and other problematic bs with stranger things. I am an angry person.
Just finished stranger things season 4. And I'm so mad. I related WAY too hard to Henry. I just.
And him telling Max "people don't think about killing others." At first I was like upset, but then I realized. Henry was probably told that. Max said it, but that felt so odd to have to say to her to make her upset. Henry, a killer in canon, is lying by saying that to her. He's probably been told that. By doctors, by his mother. I just. I hate what this season did to him. I hate the ableism in the show and the fandom. I hate the problematic nature of this show. I hate those scenes with Lucas and Erica. I hate the fact they filmed in a fucking Nazi prison. What the actual fuck. Everything is just so God damn disrespectful. I'm finished with the season and I'm not even sure if I care about what has to come next. Cause wow. Just wow.
Also yeah, Eddie was heroic, but that death was fucking dumb. Like. Killing him off. They never ever kill off main cast, just the side characters they throw in the season like Billy, Eddie, whoever else I can't remember, Bob. I just hate it. The closest they came to killing a main character is with Max and even then, she has a chance to live. And all the ableism surrounding the fact that Max could be disabled and blind if she lives and "they should have just killed her off." No.
I hate the ships. Nancy and Steve are not going to work out, like come on, not everyone in love should end up together. I don't like Mike and El cause they both have their issues and I just...they don't fit. Mike is too in his own stuff and El was too in her own stuff.
I hate that the normal stuff was thrown away in this season. Like wow nothing ever came of the normal bullying or normal problems.
Having Lucas call Jason a raging psychopath was fucking disgusting. I was so ready to have him tell Jason off and then he just says that. Like fucking wow. Implying the one that is threatening and murderous and nearly kills Lucas (not even mentioning the fucking shocking nature of him pulling a gun on Lucas as well as the other sport guy fucking TACKLING Erica) is a "psychopath." Like fuck off.
Will is precious and I love Dustin. They're both good.
Oh no, Henry's thinking is scary. Oh scary and bad. Also using a monster to portray mental illness and trauma, but then having that monster be a traumatized neurodivergent person specifically autistic and ASPD is fucking bullshit.
I just. This season tried and it fauled. It presents itself as a good season with great directing and such, but the story and writing is all bs and of course it's a super problematic show. I've barely listed the shit and not gone in depth about it.
Also it felt like the show kept fighting between Brenner bad, but Brenner can be good, Henry bad, Henry villain. All that fucking shit. It wasn't even clear. And I love that they made Robin autistic, but it just felt like they shoved in some of the autistic traits in random scenes. Or like they just took some autism info and shoved it onto her (at points, not overall.) It's like Robin was the quirky autistic, El was the weird autistic, and Henry was the big scary autistic. And I hate it. It doesn't feel like representation. It doesn't feel like it at all. You can't have some celebration of Robin or acceptance of her being autistic and it be shown as good when you demonize the traits of Henry being autistic. I headcanon Robin has learned she's autistic and is unmasking because it makes sense to me and reminds me of when I started "acting more autistic" too. So this isn't a rant on Robin being autistic or anything, this is about how the show portrays it and points out autistic traits rather than just letting her be autistic. It does remind me of us that have realized we are actually autistic and we "act more autistic" basically. So I will accept that headcanon even though I don't have faith in the writers.
Just everything makes me mad that I can't even enjoy the story. I can't enjoy it at all. Like it just gets worse and worse. And the fandom is hell. Just fucking do better. I don't know how to end this but just, fucking do better.

It always drives me insane, but especially now, how people dismiss 12 and Clara as romantic canon or eventually subtextually romantic. We've seen the Doctor in Canon romantic love. We've seen the Doctor in Canon best friends situations.
With his arguably biggest (based on how insane the fandom and writers, especially rtd are/cling onto) nu who love interest, Rose. When she's in danger he's fawning and doesn't bend. 10, especially isn't furloughed in morals as much as 12. (Or 9, but this is a different talk for another day.) He's not laying awake thinking if he's good or evil. He just accepts and goes.
When Rose and the whole Doomsday plot happens, all 10 does is burn up a sun to say good-bye. (Then treat Martha like shit until uWu Donna time.)
With Clara, he frequently goes to the next level. Hell, most his words in seasons 8 and 9 is her name! He's jealous in a way he never was with Mickey at Danny. He's constantly at odds with himself. He feels and acts legitimately threatened.
When she is finally dying. He loses all pretense, gives into his urges and threatens genocide, holds hostage, coups and kills. He is willing to undo his past of saving Gallifrey from falling, to save her. Keep her. Hold her.
It's only when Clara reels him in does he think differently. Go a different route. Be nicer. Chose a shard of kindness to the rest of the universe.
They both brought out the best and worst in each other until the bitter end.
"Friendship" my ass. That's real, toxic, deep all-consuming love.

Like a lot of people I sometimes ponder what my favorite characters might look like if they were allowed to grow older. I've been seeing a lot of good designs for older Soren specifically so of course I got to thinkin' about my own take!
Some notes on design process under the cut cause I think we should all share our thought process once in a while:
So, for this I didn't want to just want to go with "Soren, exactly the same but older". My thought was "if I was actually in charge of designing for a fire emblem game, one that takes place in a future Tellius perhaps and featuring this character as a guest (a la Tiki or the Awakening trio, which they should keep doing BTW) how would I go about doing that".
You have to think of course, about what the character is actually doing and what their role is. It seems pretty likely that after RD Soren is either traveling the world with Ike or wandering around (probably the former) so "traveler" was the theme. As far as the overall shape and the outer layer especially it seemed obvious to reference the dragons, who are also travelers:
I don't want to just straight up copy the look of the robes though for a couple of reasons. 1) that's boring and the idea here is for an updated visual style 2) I wanted to combine different elements to evoke a feeling of mixing cultures. I figure if this scenario takes place say, 80 years in the future or something, fashions will have moved forward and perhaps you would see elements of beorc and laguz fashions mixed together. Especially for Soren given what he is. So I went with an inner layer that looks more Victorian puffy sleeves (which you don't actually see a lot of in PoR or RD since the characters favor more stiff looking tunics, but they are there and I figured its the future and maybe Crimea has entered its puffy shirt era) with the outer layer looking more like what the dragons wear. 3) Staying with robes seems kind of stagnant. I imagine that a much older Soren who's lived a good life along side his love has probably chilled out a little bit. A little bit. 4) I think having more leg visible gives a more adult silhouette.
The other consideration is the hairstyle. As much as I love Soren being a carbon copy of Rajaion, it wouldn't be the most interesting design choice if I was the character designer of a game to just copy a past design 1 for 1. So I decided to just lengthen his hair a little bit and give it a look like its been blown around in the wind. Soren is the windy guy and I'm assuming he would be more chill here so why not let it be loose and free? This also helps avoid him just looking like Sephiran cause I see that a lot too lol.
Yes I also changed the shape of his brand. I've always been fascinated by the fact that it changed shape between games. I know it was likely just a design oversight but what if it changed because he isn't an adult yet and it changes more as he ages?
Lastly there's the why. Why would your fav show up as a guest character? What would he even do?? Well I think Soren could be really fun actually if we assume he went with Ike and that Ike kept Ragnell with him. I'm picturing a situation where Ike has lived out his natural life and died, leaving Soren to return to Tellius alone in order to tell Mist's family what happened (cause Ike just left without telling anyone anything lol), and to return Ragnell to them. Instead some conflict breaks out, you know how it is, and the more chilled out Soren is convinced to bestow the sword onto the new starry-eyed lord who reminds him of his beloved.
Oh yeah. I can see it now.

I need more selkie theon (and asha. I just think that would be a vibe. fuck the greyjoy sigil being a kraken for a moment and let them be seals) content.
like the opportunity to have theon's coat taken by ned when he's made his ward is right there and it is perfect and beautiful and tragic.
and you could build on that depending on the version of the selkie myth/story you're going off of (I personally love the song of the sea version of selkies for story writing). maybe he can't talk without it, maybe he gets sick, maybe his voice has magical properties of sorts.
I have this one concept in my head that I don't have the time to write, but it goes something along the lines of theon getting sick after years away from his coat and the stark kids have to find his coat and drag his slowly dying ass to the bay of seals (cause y'know bay of seals and theon's a selkie so he'll turn into a seal... I thought it was creative).
also, in a lot of versions of selkies, when they get sick, their hair turns white, which is on brand for theon. they're also pretty, their stories are typically soaked to the bone in tragedy, they're normally held captive/tortured, amongst other things, which are also very on brand for theon.
and maybe you get some selkie to selkie telepathy of sorts, so when theon finally enter the water a seal again, asha books it to come find him, cause its been years since she's been able to feel him (I'm soft for them, I will create the most improbable and ridiculous scenario's to bring them together and for them to have soft sibling moments).
all and all, theon being a selkie is something I need more content of, please and thank you.
