It always drives me insane, but especially now, how people dismiss 12 and Clara as romantic canon or eventually subtextually romantic. We've seen the Doctor in Canon romantic love. We've seen the Doctor in Canon best friends situations.

With his arguably biggest (based on how insane the fandom and writers, especially rtd are/cling onto) nu who love interest, Rose. When she's in danger he's fawning and doesn't bend. 10, especially isn't furloughed in morals as much as 12. (Or 9, but this is a different talk for another day.) He's not laying awake thinking if he's good or evil. He just accepts and goes.

When Rose and the whole Doomsday plot happens, all 10 does is burn up a sun to say good-bye. (Then treat Martha like shit until uWu Donna time.)

With Clara, he frequently goes to the next level. Hell, most his words in seasons 8 and 9 is her name! He's jealous in a way he never was with Mickey at Danny. He's constantly at odds with himself. He feels and acts legitimately threatened.

When she is finally dying. He loses all pretense, gives into his urges and threatens genocide, holds hostage, coups and kills. He is willing to undo his past of saving Gallifrey from falling, to save her. Keep her. Hold her.

It's only when Clara reels him in does he think differently. Go a different route. Be nicer. Chose a shard of kindness to the rest of the universe.

They both brought out the best and worst in each other until the bitter end.

Parallel Construction

Editing tip for better sentence flow.

When writing, you want symmetry with your words. Your writing can seems off when information is presented differently within the same sentence.

Example 1: I love to play soccer, hockey, and go running. These three items can all be placed and presented together, but the last element is not parallel to the first two. Consider restructuring the sentence as follows: I love soccer, hockey, and running.

Not all unparalleled sentences have a singular correct answer, some have many, it simply depends on how you present your information.

Example 2: Anderson loved riding his bike around the neighbourhood and skateboarding to work. These two elements are things Anderson enjoys doing, but they are fairly different in sentence construction. Consider the following ways to improve the format. 1. Anderson’s favourite method of transformation is his bike and his skateboard. 2. Anderson loved riding his bike and skateboard outside.

Consider what point is most important in getting across, and then present that. If some information gets left out, but it doesn’t contribute to the story, then leave it out.

Let’s try one last example!

When packing for a trip:

Roll your clothes to save space

Stuff socks into your shoes to keep their shape

Space should be kept for anything you buy while gone

Keep a bag for your dirty clothes

Three of these are written similarly, so you can decide to either change the one different one (Keep space for items you may buy) or you can change your other three points to match the one that is different (space can be saved by rolling your clothes, to keep their shape, shoes can be stuffed with socks, etc)

I know this is pretty obvious, but like, the parallels between Miles' fight with Kingpin and his fight with Miguel are SO good.

Kingpin sent a bunch of people after Miles (and the other Spiders, but like, yea)

So did Miguel.

Miguel ALSO pinned him to a train (the outside)

He also shot Miguel away with the electrokinesis.

one thing i haven't seen talked about much is how much joyce and nancy mirror each other. there are very obvious differences in terms of their privilege with the wheelers having a lot more money than the byers, but at their core, both characters struggle with moving through the world as a woman. a reoccurring for both of them is not being taken seriously, even by the people closest to them the similarities are most clear in s1 when they are both initially dismissed by the police, joyce for being an overemotional mother and nancy for being a slut, two roles based on their womanhood. but even as the show goes on, they both continue to get dismissed. in s2, it's the lab dismissing joyce and when nancy visits the lab with jonathan to get information she is also dismissed. in s3, they are both initially dismissed by their love interests, when joyce brings up the magnets falling, hopper dismisses her along with murray and when nancy wants to investigate the rats, jonathan dismisses her along with the hawkins post.
