When Serena first got to Kalos' Elite Four, she genuinely had no idea what to expect. Both out of herself, and out of the Elite Four members themselves. Most importantly, she wanted to do her team proud. It was what they deserved after their arduous and tough journey. Serena had already kept them waiting long enough following her month long recovery post-Flare, and she was entering Kalos' League with a team of 5 - not 6, not like how it should have been, Olympe's absence and death still fresh for both Serena and the rest of the team.
Siebold's chamber was where Serena encountered her first major problem, though no fault of his own. The battle had been going well, up until Siebold sent out his Gyarados. The Flare HQ incident was still a raw wound for Serena that hadn't yet healed, and seeing the Gyarados only threw her back to her battle with Lysandre and his Gyarados - the Gyarados that resulted in Olympe's death, after Lysandre had used it to attack Serena.
Luckily Joyeuse was out on the field at this time. Serena was beyond coherency, unable to actually direct Joyeuse. The deep bond and trust they shared, however, was what guided Joyeuse to her decision making. The decision of getting the Gyarados down immediately, seeing the distress Serena was in. The roaring waterfalls of the chamber deafened most noise, and one would assume Serena had simply given orders.
Joyeuse dispatched Siebold's Gyarados with a ferocity that had become characteristic of the Aegislash as of late, knocking it out with a heavy blow from her blade. They were able to exit the chamber following the battle without much of a fuss, and Rose, Serena's Sylveon, was able to finally come out and help calm her trainer down.
Her battles with Wikstrom and Drasna were far less eventful. Serena had Merlin out for most of Wikstrom's battle, the Delphox dispelling his steel-types with expertly weaved flames. Joyeuse was utilized against Wikstrom's Aegislash, pitting sword against sword, though Joyeuse would inevitably come out on top.
Drasna was more or less the same story, pitting her Venusaur, Snack against her Dragalge and then utilizing Rose and her Goodra, Jello, for the rest of her team. Both Wikstrom and Drasna were very kind to Serena, both before and after their battles. She left both of their chambers following the battles feeling a lot better than before.
This only lasted until she finally reached Malva's chamber. Malva was someone Serena had only a couple run-ins with during her journey, but she knew what Malva was all about. Seeing her holding such a lofty League position made her blood boil, instilling a deep rage in her. After all that Flare had done - for one of them to be among the ranks of the Elite Four? It was unforgivable to her.
Despite having the odds stacked against her, Serena knew Joyeuse was insistent on letting her fight. It was a brutal and grueling fight, the most intense Serena had thus far in the Elite Four. After bringing Malva down to her final pokemon, her Pyroar, she could tell Joyeuse was beginning to grow tired. The Aegislash was too proud to make it obvious, but Serena knew better. The Pyroar landed a devastating hit to Joyeuse's shield, fiery claws scorching hot and cleaving three scars through her steel. In the end, though, Serena and Joyeuse were both able to pull through and vanquished the final member of Kalos' Elite Four.
Serena took to Diantha's arena with ferocity, eyes a dark stormy grey. It only grew worse as the Champion, whom Serena had met multiple times during her journey, didn't remember who Serena was at first. Being thanked for her efforts in squashing Flare was the final nail in the coffin, especially after Kalos' own Champion had done nothing to help.
Everything that had happened during her journey, and everything she had experienced fighting Kalos Elite Four culminated to this moment. Serena, at this point, was so angry she could hardly think straight.
All of her team was utilized in this final battle, though with Diantha having six pokemon, Serena had to double dip one of her team members. This, of course, would be Joyeuse. With Serena having healed Joyeuse with what she had available to her, she was roaring to fight. She came head-to-head with Diantha's Gardevoir, of which she would waste no time in Mega Evolving. Joyeuse was getting decent damage in, but she was also being whittled away with every attack due to Mega Evolution's sheer power.
In the end, Joyeuse would fell the Mega Gardevoir, only to fall unconscious not long after herself. Though Joyeuse was knocked out, the Aegislash did not waver, and she did not fall, remaining upright despite her lack of consciousness.
Serena was the victor, being crowned as Kalos Champion. She was quickly ushered to the League's healing station, and then her Hall of Fame photo was taken. The empty spot that Olympe should have filled was glaringly obvious, and Serena's smile did not meet her exhausted eyes. Around her neck were still bruises, in the crude outline of hands, from where Lysandre had attempted to take her life.
When she finally got a chance to speak, Serena stated she had no intention of taking the Champion seat. Upon arriving to the League, she may have thought differently, but after everything... she had no respect for Diantha, and she couldn't idly take the Champion seat knowing a former Flare member was in the ranks of the Elites.
Her declination came as a surprise, to the point where no further words were exchanged between the two. Serena gathered up her team, made sure she wasn't leaving any personal belongings behind, and left Kalos' League.
While Serena was never officially was Kalos Champion, she is still registered into the Hall of Fame. These records are publicly available, showcasing the photo of her and her team, along with her Trainer ID. It's common knowledge Serena took down Diantha without taking the seat itself, a point that caused contention in the Kalosian media. Some touted it as her disrespecting both Diantha and the League, while others praised her for not falling into the cycle of the child prodigy turned Champion.
She was emboldened and embittered to make such a decision in the end, her overall view on Kalos' Elite Four and Champion utterly and completely soured. Their inaction to aid her and her friends - all of which were just kids at the same - was egregious enough as it was. Diantha's lack of care over Malva being in her League and not even remembering who Serena was, despite her being the one to have to step up for Kalos - a teenage girl of all people when there was a perfectly capable Champion - was the final nail in the coffin.
Make no mistake, though. Despite Serena turning down the seat, she is a Champion-level trainer through and through. She still battles with her team at Kalos' Battle Chateau, holding the prestigious Grand Duchess title - one she also pried from Diantha's hands in a massive upset. She holds all the badges from the Kalos and Hoenn Gyms, along with boasting a handful of miscellaneous badges from other regions she's visited. Battling is still something she is very passionate about even after delving into furthering her education. It's a way for her to continually be close with her team, and to further forge the bonds they share.
All in all - Serena absolutely doesn't regret refusing the Champion seat. Not even for a single second.

Dragonspiral for sure, the one cliff for Keldeo maybe, absolutely the Giant Chasm or whatever for Kyurem, maybe the shrine for Landorus
Because Sinnoh is (ig) the first region and the divine first footstep of creation for the world, the whole region stinks of spiritual energy. Alola might be the same tbh.
i never fuckin did the keldeo event so idk what the cliff is but yeah this all makes sense. I wonder how much of any other given region would do it

silva does legitimately go through a lot of recovery and development when it comes to her traumas. no, she probably doesn’t go to counseling--she SHOULD, but she doesn’t feel comfortable nor feel it necessarily to do it--but she does have supports and obviously doesn’t have to deal with being hunted down[mostly] anymore. she still is unstable...but there’s at least a lowkey attempt with a few people that silva has trusted to try and least make it better...not to mention when silva does make the full “haha yveltal” transition, it does make it a lot easier. silva’s legitimately happy, even if there’s somethings she still has to deal with.

thinks about the parallels between satoshi & takeshi ...     living without a father figure for most of their lives   ( satoshi never having met his father & only gaining a father figure in kukui, & takeshi’s father disappearing when he was just a boy ) ,  learning from a young age to take care of other people & developing a need to be able to protect & guide those younger & less experienced than them, seeing it as their responsibility to be the capable one when the shit hits the fan, keeping a light tone but shutting into I’ve-Dealt-With-Some-Shit-&-Am-Not-Putting-Up-With-More-Shit mode when serious decisions are in question.
there’s also something to be said about the gradually developing parallels of satoshi & takeshi’s dynamic to satoshi & gou’s, satoshi slowly becoming the takeshi to gou’s satoshi, weird as the wording is.     the difference in experience, the difference in knowledge, mentoring where there’s gaps between a goal & the ability to achieve it, adopting a more stern air when serious matters are brought up, happy to step back once in a while & just see what the other will come up with, feeling pride at seeing the other’s progress & development.

Just spitballing some random pokethoughts...
Eternatus and the Darkest Day happened in Galar 3,000 year ago, and at the same time AZ made the Ultimate Weapon in Kalos, again 3,000 years ago.
And the two events lead to Devon co. studying Mega Evolution to develop Infinity Energy, and Macro Cosmos studying Dynamax and Power Spots to develop Rose's power plant. "Eternal" and "Infinite."
And the Eternatus power plant logo strongly resembles the new logo in the Z-A trailer.
And in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, the Infinity Energy was ultimately used to save the day by teleporting the Delta meteor into another universe. getting Mega Rayquaza to destroy the Delta meteor. And Eternatus fell to Earth on a meteorite (20,000 years ago).
Delta(Δ) being the mathematical variable for "Change," and obviously being a play on the Greek letter motif(ΩA). And of course Alpha and Omega as a pair are best known as the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet(and the biblical "Beginning and the End")
So, go figure, ΩA is a synonym with ZA, so the title ...Z-A can be understood as "(from)The End to The Beginning," the reverse reading of A-Z as "A to Z."
There are two kings who helped defeat Eternatus who apparently at some point shared a bloodline? (Did their descendents marry later, or were the two kings already related?) Tragically their bloodline produced the brothers Shieldbert and Swordward.
AZ was a former king of Kalos and is succeeded by a younger brother from whom Lysander is descended.
King Louis XIV was dubbed "le Roi Soleil":"the Sun King" and famously obsessed over sun motifs. His Palace of Versailles is the basis of the Parfum Palace in Kalos. The Parfum Palace was built by either AZ or one of his descendents.
The Parfum Palace garden has statues of Zekrom and Reshiram
Zekrom and Reshiram were split in two from their original united form by the Hero of Truth and the Hero of Ideals, forming Unova in the process.
The Twin Heroes built the Relic Castle in what is now the Resort Desert. The Relic Castle appears to have been built "at least 2,500 years ago".
Possibly also built the Abyssal Ruins? One castle dedicated to the sun and the desert, one to the dark and the watery depths?
The Relic Castle enshrines Volcorona, "The Sun Pokemon" said to have appeared at a time when ash blacked out the sky and saved people by acting as a replacement for the sun.
Eternatus' Darkest Day involved summoning dark clouds to black out the sky.
Alder, Champion of Unova, has a Volcorona as his signature pokemon, a backstory involving losing a pokemon and wandering the region in his grief, kind of like AZ, sans the immortality.
Alder also has a flaming mane-like hair not too dissimilar to Lysandre's.
Alder is the basis of an unspecified character design in Legends Arceus who appears to be a third, perhaps seminal or unifying factor in the Maxi/Archie ancestors' Diamond and Pearl clans. A Platinum clan? The Sinnoh people? Or just a unifier, a peace maker, a mentor, or a shared ancestor?
Cogita and Volo as members of the Sinnoh people have fixations on lore keeping/seeking. Something Cynthia sort of inherits
Cynthia is from Celestic Town in Sinnoh, where Drasna said she's from originally
Zinnia is a Dragon trainer and "lorekeeper" in ORAS
Celestic Town in DPPt has a shrine that uses the same model as the one in Ilex Forest for Celebi in HGSS
Terapagos is supposed to have an ability to alter or shift timelines, relating to the presence of the Paradox Pokemon
But Black City and White Forest also seem to exist as a kind of paradox around polar opposite futurism and primitivism

i've always wondered about cubones-- is it true they all wear the skull of their mothers? are they really their own species or are they an evolutionary branch of a different kind of pokemon?
it is indeed untrue that they all wear the skull of their mothers! after all, a species which could only ever have one offspring, in which the mother was fated to die in childbirth could only ever decline in population. you may have also heard of the idea that cubone are 'born' when a mother kangaskhan dies, leaving behind an orphaned baby which wears the skull of the dead kangaskhan. neither of these are true... but neither of them are entirely untrue, either.
the short answer is that cubone and marowak are their own species, and cubone's skull helmet does not necessarily come from its dead mother. this species is a marsupial- pouch-bearing mammals (as opposed to placental mammals, like us)- and only has one baby at a time. the way marsupials are born is really neat- the baby, called a joey, is born at an absolutely tiny size and in an underdeveloped state. like, SERIOUSLY undeveloped- it's little more than an eraserhead baby with arms, less than an inch long.
Tumblr media
look at that. look at that fucking thing. this little meat gummy bear uses its tiny little arms to grapple all the way up to the teats in the pouch, and basically latches on like a lamprey for over half a year. the baby drinks and grows and drinks and grows til it's large enough to leave the pouch. it'll return to the pouch regularly for maybe a month after it first leaves, but eventually grows up enough to leave for good. after this, the mother marowak will often almost immediately begin to grow another joey.
it's at this point, just after leaving the pouch, that the cubone joey will don its iconic helmet. the skull it selects can indeed be from a marowak, even its deceased mother as has been reported in some infrequent cases, but it isn't always- any appropriately-sized skull will do, with species depending on what pokemon live nearby. the skull is sometimes from a prey item of the parent, but is also often simply scavenged. the cubone will swap out its helmet a few times as it grows before it evolves. the skull becomes part of the individual's body when it evolves into marowak, changing shape and fitting perfectly to the head, unable to be removed ever again.
Tumblr media
now, what does this have to do with kanghaskhan? kangaskhan and cubone/marowak aren't the same species, but they are closely related. additionally, their ranges often overlap- this is true in kanto, unova, kalos, and alola. in these areas, cubone will often don kangaskhan skulls if given the opportunity. furthermore, kangaskhan are sometimes known to care for orphaned or lost young of other pokemon species (or perhaps more legendarily, lost human children), and it seems that due to their close relation it isn't extremely uncommon to see a kangaskhan mother care for a baby cubone, perhaps adding more fire to the rumor.
