Twisted Wonderland Oc’s part 1: The Og’s

I’m bored and thought I would share my “Yuu” character and two of the Oc’s I’ve made. I haven’t had the time to do like a drawing or something in the style of the game (to many projects for my art classes 🙃) but I like to use Picrew to make like base references for myself. As a quick side note, these posts are going to be kind of long b/c they include two-three characters.

I used this Picrew specifically for the Picrews put in this post! (Ignore them all holding coffee, I liked that hand position the best)

Yuri Briarwood

To start off, here’s my MC Yuri! Ngl I actually kind of liked the default name “Yuu” so when I was picking a name I wanted something that sounded similar. I really like the name Yuri, I think it sounds pretty and I can use “Yuu” as a nickname :) . I originally had their surname as “Rosenbaum” which was based off author Ayn Rand’s maiden name, but I ended up changing it. I don’t know why I was so drawn to “Briarwood” but it sounds cool and I like it so I went with it!

In terms of physical appearance, I think I was also trying to add in some little bits of myself into the character design; I have Scottish and Irish ancestry/family so I think that’s kind of why I was drawn to the red hair and green eye combo. For now I’m gonna play it off as one of Yuri’s parents has some Irish/Scottish ancestry and those genes ended up showing through the most.

In terms of character/personality; Yuri is definitely the “tired wine mom” of their group seeing as they always have to keep Ace, Deuce, and Grim out of trouble. They’re very sarcastic, often speak very bluntly, and is “surprisingly” very cheeky/witty. I say surprisingly because a lot of the NRC students underestimate Yuri because they’re magicless, but catch them on a bad day and they will destroy your self esteem in an instant. Like that one John Mulaney skit about 8th graders, the “hey look at that high waisted man! He got feminine hips!” Skit? That’s Yuri. They will 100% call you out on whatever you don’t like about yourself, just like an 8th grader. Despite this, Yuri is generally pretty calm and friendly, they just have a short temper around arrogant people.

They are also very protective of their friends, usually trying to keep Ace, Deuce, and Grim out of trouble more out of fear that they’re gonna get themselves hurt than them getting in trouble. Yuri has a younger brother that they often took care of since their mother is a doctor who works long hours. So they do have a pretty good grasp on first aid and usually has to patch up their dumbass friends. They also have a tendency to, not really baby but kind of care for some of the other students like an older sibling. This is mostly seen with Ortho, and occasionally Lilia mostly because of his younger appearance (not that he’s gonna complain about getting extra attention). Oh and Cheka when he visits Leona! Leona has, on numerous occasions just sort of dropped Cheka off at Ramshackle without another word so Yuri can watch his nephew. Not has Yuri minds, they love the little guy 😌. Yuri is also one of the few people that encourages Epel to actually be himself, and not act like how Vil wants him to. It’s not uncommon for Epel to slip into his normal country accent when he’s around Yuri.

Yuri is also a hardworking and helpful individual mainly because they helped out a lot at home. They may complain a little when first given a task (especially if it’s Crowley giving them the task) but they usually mellow out pretty quickly. Whenever they’re invited to Heartslabyul for an Unbirthday, they always offer to help with decorating. They also like to clean as they find it calming. They honestly wouldn’t have minded janitorial duties, it was just the way Crowley threw it at them and the situation that caused their complaints. Whenever Yuri has some spare time, they’re usually cleaning up Ramshackle.

You’ve probably noticed by now that I’ve been using They/Them pronouns for Yuri. That’s because they are Agender and primarily use they/them pronouns! They don’t necessarily mind she/her - they do occasionally present femininely - just as long as it’s not being used maliciously. Like if someone accidentally misgenders them, they aren’t gonna be upset. But if they’re doing it on purpose then Yuri is gonna have some words for you (get ready to also be relentlessly misgendered by the entirety of the first year squad)! Don’t underestimate their sweet face, I can’t stress enough how seriously Yuri takes the phrase “traumatise them back”.

Harry Leblanc

My bunny bby! Harry Leblanc (no relation to Neige LaBlanche) is a second year Heartslabyul student. He is inspired by the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland and is one of my favourite Oc’s (sorry everyone else 😅). I chose Harry because it sounds similar to “Hare” (I know rabbits and hares are different, but they have their similarities and I liked the name Harry), and then Leblanc which is a French surname that, from my research, was usually given to people who had very pale blond, or even white hair. Seemed fitting for a White Rabbit inspired character!

Harry is the son of the Rosehearts family butler (who is also very loosely based on the White Rabbit. Harry is much closer to the character in terms of personality and appearance. His dad is just a white rabbit beastman like Harry), and has known Riddle since they were both little. I won’t go to much into their history together because it would include major Book 1 spoilers, but in essence; Harry was like Riddle’s personal attendant (he pretty much made sure Riddle studied and got to lessons on time). He always wanted to be friends with Riddle, but because of his quiet nature and his position in the house Harry didn’t really feel like they could be friends. So instead Harry did whatever he could to help Riddle out and keep him company. After the events of Book 1, Riddle and Harry have been working towards forming a truer friendship 😌.

In terms of personality, Harry is pretty close to his inspiration character with maybe an extra sprinkling of ✨anxiety✨. Harry is usually very quiet, soft spoken, and holds a lot of personal guilt for some events from his childhood. Because of his shyness, Harry often has some trouble expressing his feelings especially if it goes against someone he cares about. This is seen pretty well with Riddle’s harsh punishments for breaking dorm rules. Harry had a feeling that what was happening was wrong, but because he was to anxious to actually say something to Riddle, he ended up unintentionally enabling the behaviour. He is also almost always seen wearing his uniform gloves (even in casual wear) because he finds that they help him from picking at his hands, which is a nervous habit he had developed when he was young.

Other than his shy/anxiousness, Harry is also quite jittery and scares easy. Despite his excellent hearing, If Harry isn’t paying attention and you walk up to him you will spook the poor bun. Epel has spooked Harry a few times, completely on accident, simply because Harry wasn’t paying attention. Harry is also often described as always being in a hurry. He’s a big stickler for being on time (very similar to Riddle and his obsession with rules) and is quite obsessive when it comes to his schedules. While he can get a lot done in an effective manner, Harry will panic when his schedule is thrown off by even a second. After Book 1 Harry has begun to slowly loosen up on his tight scheduling, and it seems that he doesn’t panic as much if he’s the one changing things around. Harry has a habit of tapping things to mark the time. For example, when there is only 15 minutes left in class, he’ll tap the table or a book fifteen times and then will tap every five minutes (ten taps to five taps to class being over).

Harry is quite reliable and loyal though! He’s always willing to help his friends and does enjoy spending time with others he is close to. Harry does also have a slight temper. It’s not to terrible and it takes a lot for him to lose it, but his dorm mates have said it’s unsettling because of how quiet Harry normally is. He has totally thrown Riddle over his shoulder to defuse an argument. His ears are also very expressive and it’s pretty easy to tell how he’s feeling, especially if you are well versed in Bunny body language.

Harry is cisgender and identifies as AroAce! He is also quite intelligent and observant. I also mentioned this before, but Harry and Neige are NOT related, they just happen to have the same last name (slightly different spellings though).

Unique Magic:

Late for an Important Date- Harry’s unique magic allows him to steal the magical energy of another person and use that energy to slow or completely reverse time. The more energy taken the stronger the magics effect. Harry doesn’t use it often because it can cause overblot fairly quickly, so he tries to only use it for emergencies.

Rook Queen

Say hello to my other Wonderland bby! While not an animated Disney movie, I’m a fan of the live action Alice in Wonderland especially The White Queen (I think she’s pretty 🥰)! So Rook is inspired by the White Queen! I chose Rook as their name becuase the White Court (in both movies and the book) have a lot of chess inspiration - like how the Queen of Hearts has playing card inspiration - and I felt that Rook was a good fit! And then Queen for the last name for just simplicity sake. It also slipped my mind that Rook was a character when I came up with the name, but they go to different schools so who’s gonna stops me?

Rook is a second year student of Royal Sword Academy and they’re Riddles older cousin (Rook is six months older than Riddle). Since I think RSA would likely have a similar dorm system (since the two schools in themselves are very similar), Rook is the housewarden for their dorm (its similar to the White Queens castle in the live action movie with other wonderland Easter eggs).

Rook is very well respected by their dorm students because of their calm and patient personality. They are always willing to assist their students, and others in the school regardless of year and is kind to most everyone. Similar to Riddle who idolises the Queen of Hearts, Rook idolises The White Queen. They are a pacifist, refusing to harm any living thing, and is very gentle with others. Rook is also far more lenient with rules as compared to Riddle, mainly because they did not grow up in a strict household. They are a very easy going and laid back individual and find great enjoyment in spending time with their more “mad” friends. Though they do have a slight temper, it takes A LOT for Rook to lose it.

Rooks favourite pastime is to host Unbirthday tea parties at their dorm which tend to be much livelier than the ones at Heartslabyul (according to Che’nya). I have this headcanon that the Heartslabyul unbirthdays are a modified version of a “traditional” unbirthday, as the Queen of Hearts likely added more rules to hold more control. So I like to think Rook’s parties are more along the lines of the “traditional” version which would be more whimsical and “mad”. Though that’s not to say that Rook finds one version superior to the other. Rook is more than willing to follow the Queens rules for a Heartslabyul unbirthday if they were to ever attend one.

Like with Harry, I can’t divulge much of their relationship with Riddle and their aunt just because it would hold spoilers. But what I will say is that Rook and Riddle weren’t close growing up because Rook’s family moved away when they were still young. They did however write to each other often so they still had a little bit of a relationship. Rook’s mother also didn’t get along well with her sister (Riddle’s mother) because of their differing opinions on how a child should be raised. Rook still loves Riddle dearly and hopes that, now that they’re older, they can have a closer relationship. They are also very grateful that Riddle formed such a good friendship with Trey and Che’nya.

Similar to the White Queen, Rook is said to walk very gracefully, and is often described as “dancing” when they walk. This gracefulness often seeps into other aspect of their demeanour such as their way of speaking, writing, and even how they eat and drink. Rook - and his mother - are also very skilled in potions making. Their mother is a magical doctor, but owns a very small clinic that focuses more on healing potions and herbal medicine. Mrs. Queen is also well known for baking potions into food to make it easier for some to take. One example of this are the “Eat me cakes” (or Upelkuchen, its actual name) which are just tea cakes infused with a very potent growth potion. Rook has a habit of making regular tea cakes and decorating them to look like Upelkuchen usually as a harmless prank. They especially enjoy sending them to Riddle just for a bit of fun.

Rook is good friends with their dorm mates Che’nya, Jack March (my March Hare inspired character), Terrance Hatter (my Mad Hatter inspired character), and Alister Carroll (my Alice inspired character).

Rook is also Nonbinary (they/them) and demisexual.

As you can see, I have quite a few Alice in Wonderland inspired characters…that’s because it’s one of my favourite movies and they have quite a few characters that can be turned into twst characters. Like I could probably make a number of chess piece inspired characters as dorm students at RSA, or even other card soldier inspired characters for Heartslabyul.

For Harry and Rook I tried to take inspiration from the books and both animated/live action movies. I feel like I can get a good pool of characteristics to pick from if I pull from other sources. That can also be said for Jack, Terrance, and Alister.

It’s also a complete coincidence that I made all three of these characters ace in some capacity. When I give my characters sexualities I tend to just go with what I feel is right, I don’t put much thought into it 😅

Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed! I’m willing to answer any other questions about these bby’s! I’m also trying to think of a name for Rook’s dorm, so if anyone as suggestions let me know!
