More Artemis! This time the run cycle.
Maybe I’ll work up the nerve to link the whole animation here at some point.

Thoughts about Hades 2 as a tech test player
Everything is under a read more bc. 1. Long post. 2. Spoilers for Hades 2.
1. The game is fucking s m o o t h. Loads quicker and everything feels more stream lined.
2. It’s somewhat harder than Hades 1. Idk if it’s bc of not having a super buffed character but I am definitely finding it a little more challenging. Not a bad thing though!
3. Melinoë plays a little different from Zag which is to be expected! We now have a sprint, spells, and new weapons. Already loving how regular casts and specials don’t have a cast limit. Also love the twin blades. Fast weapon go brrrrrrr.
4. I’m definitely interested in seeing what they do with gathering, farming, ect. Great way to add more stuff to do in and after runs.
5. This ties into 4 but, I love how there’s a bunch of stuff to do in Crossroads! In Hades 1, I never spent too much time in the house. I was always dashing through to do another run when not stopping to talk to people. The Crossroads is definitely a nice cool down area for after runs!
6. THE ART. Man everyone looks so good!!!! I can tell some of the sprites are still being worked on but everything still looks so damn clean. I love how everyone has backgrounds in their portraits!
7. APOLLO, HEPHAESTUS, HESTIA, SELENE. All of them look and sound so cool. Really looking forward to seeing their full boon lists and how they play with different weapons ect.
8. I’m really happy to see some of the OG gods returning. All of them look so sick and every time I see a boon from the first game I go “YOOOOOO”. Also Artemis physically appearing is sick as hell.
9. Really excited to get to know the new crew better! They’re all really compelling already!
10. The areas seem to be shorter. Like, I’m going through less rooms to hit the boss room. Idk if it’s bc it’s a tech test or if it’s intentional.
Speculation and questions
1. WHAT DID CHRONOS DO. ARE THEY DEAD? WHERE ARE THEY? Istg if Zag is dead I am going to c r y.
2. WHERE IS THAN, MEG, ACHILLES, NYX, EVERYONE FROM THE FIRST GAME? WHERE ARE THEY?
3. Hecate said something about Hermes trying to find a way to get from the underworld to Olympus. There was also some stairs going blocked by a ward in the weapon/training room. I wonder if there’s gonna be more areas to go through. Like. Erebus, Elysium, Asphodel, Tartarus, House, then Olympus? Maybe Olympus is gonna have its own areas completely. This would make sense for why the areas are shorter. Really interested to see what they do.
4. If the game looks like this already in its tech test stage….. this might be my game of the year if it gets a full release this year. (I love you P3RE but holy shit Hades 2).
There’s a lot more I could talk about, but I am tired and this is a long post lmao.

I haven't watched the technical, but based on the screenshots I've seen, I wonder if Artemis in Hades II will function similar to Thanatos in Hades I? Her talk about doing a Great Hunt could just be how she refers to going after Chronos, but I could also see her offer a competition for most kills, upon which she confers a reward the same way Than does.
That would also explain why she appears to have a overworld sprite

Now I’m Not Saying That I Should Be Allowed To Design Servants For Fate, But....
Summer Unit, Caster Chiron has Arrived! As the immortal Caretaker and Teacher of Mount Pelion, there’s little doubt that he knows all the tips and tricks to survive a coastal month in the sun. What’s that? The Constellation is wrong? Sagittarius? Don’t be silly, Chiron’s always embodied the Constellation Centaurus. Always.
Costume Dress(es), Individual Stills for the new Sprites (Asc 3), Notes, and Taglist below the cut :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That "Always" bit is meant to be somewhat ominous which hints at the whole "rewriting and creating heroes" idea in my last post about this Eternal Summer Stage event.
And if i am to be 100% honest, I don't quite like the final result still in terms of the toga, however, I know that if I keep working on it it will never get done and that's just the way that artists are lol. The effects and everything else though? Beyond what I was even expecting for it to turn out as.
Anywho.
In terms of design, I was mostly just going for the "Dad who has the Cooler" with a casual look for the first two designs and the costume dress really isn't a drastic change either just being called Hatless. The final ascension was a more divine feel where you get that connection with the stars and space that Chiron has due to his constellations. The Costume change there is just "Divine Blessing". I honestly couldn't pick between the two colors so. Costume Dress.
So. Anyways. Each of the stars in the final ascension design are the major "Centauri" stars within Centaurus, the Constellation that Chiron/his NP is embodying here rather than Sagittarius.
The large star that Chiron has in hand is Theta Centauri, also called Menkent, and then the ones on the staff are Alpha-Gamma Centauri.
The top three stars are Alpha Centauri or Rigil Kentaurus and Toliman, and Proxima Centauri. The three make up the full Alpha Centauri as the two blue stars are a binary system that Proxima orbits
The middle two are Beta Centauri or Hadar and Agena, another binary star pair
The lower two are Gamma Centauri which is another binary star group but are unnamed
Actually, the myth of Centaurus is a little wonky because certain texts refer to Centaurus as the Father of all Centaurs and the constellation is because he put an image of himself in the sky where others point to it being the other constellation that Zeus turned Chiron into instead of Sagittarius. Honestly, I'm more inclined to the latter due to conflicting texts about mount Pelion and the Centaurs themselves as it's implied that Chiron was already on Pelion before the other Centaurs arrived in some texts
("The Kentauroi were spawned by the cloud-nymph Nephele after she was violated by the impious Lapith king Ixion. She deposited her double-formed brood on Mount Pelion where they were nursed by the daughters of the immortal kentauros Kheiron (Chiron).")
So at least in this/my version of Myth/Fate, Centaurus is Chiron as a Caster and Healer but no less a teacher, rather than the more combat-ready and "war-like" Sagittarius.
I don't have everything mapped out, but I do have skills and NP sorta created, if I actually ever get to the full thing, who is to say lmao.
1st Skill: Seaside Planning
Buffs Healing Skill (self), Attack up (all units)
2nd Skill: Teacher's Guiding Hand
Target Focus (1 turn), Invincibility (1 turn), Defense up for all units, Battlefield change to Forest
3rd Skill: Blessing of Artemis / Blessing of Apollo (costume change)
Applies "Blessings of the Moon" or “Blessings of the Sun” to all units ( Defense Up, Heal Per Turn, NP gain Up, Crit Up)
Noble Phantasm: Hunt of Lupus: Protector of Mount Pelion | Quick
Rank: A NP Type: Anti-Personnel Range: 5-99 Maximum Targets: 1
A single target Noble Phantasm much like Antares Snipe, however, while Sagittarius uses a bow, Centaurus uses his staff to sweep through and pierce the body of Lupus. This is the story of Chiron. However, here, his job is not finished. The slaying of "Lupis" ends, and thus the Teacher and protector of Pelion returns to those he protects and tends to them.
At its base, one could call it the Single Target version of Geronimo's Tsago Degi Naleya in which it deals damage and heals the party after.
"Entrust to me the stars and my Guiding hand shall lead you, o watchmen of the night. I encircle myself twice with the seven heavenly bodies so that I may continue my role among the stars. You who has woken me, fall. Hunt of Lupus."
Truth be told, still workshopping the Noble Phantasm, but it's fine, it's out there as a concept. It's a lot like Antares Snipe though, I guess? Because I did want to lean into the Greek and Constellation side of things and just. Oh well. Originally, though, I was going to make Chiron and Chariclo one Servant, and then have their Noble Phantasm be Chariclo's ("Lifeblood of Mount Pelion") but then split them up because idk I enjoy hell. They're both casters though, because I refuse to put more Rulers into the already bloated Ruler cast.
I do not have voice lines at the moment despite the fact that I have all of Chariclo and all of Agravain's finished lol

got reminded of the hades 2 odysseus design and ugh. ugh. I know it's silly but ugh I simply do not like that design!
You can just let a 50 something year old disshevelled sad guy that's been lost at sea for a decade after being at war for another one look like...well like a guy like that would look like! You don't have to make him a conventionally attractive 20 something with maybe the tiniest bit of stubble.
Genuinely if someone showed me Patroclus sprite from game 1 and Odysseus' from this one and asked me which is which I would not have guessed correctly
Also they hit Artemis's face with the 'conventionally attractive cutesy anime girl' beam

I am obsessed with Artemis Entreri that I've gone as far as designing a plush of him.
I referenced Lockwood's art of him as well as his sprites from Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms, and took a few artistic liberties here and there to make him easier to make.
I will soon have him in my clutches

I think a neat way to start an Artemis Fowl movie (since, you know, we still don't have one. clearly) would be to begin with Artemis Sr. reading the Leprechaun book to Arty. Set the audience off expecting some whimsy. Maybe show a few shots of fairies flying in silhouette.
And then cut straight to the scene with the sprite.

Whumptober Day 12: Red
Read it on Ao3
- Warriors & Legend
- Summary: Warriors suffers a nightmare
CW for blood and injury, imagined character deaths (nobody really dies), and a vivid nightmare
--------------------------------
He’s seeing red again.
It spreads like a carpet, devouring everything in reach, turning the world the color of a battlefield on fire.
Warriors clenches his hand into a fist. His fingers curl around soft linen sheets. Beside him, Legend shifts with a small sigh, rearranging into a more comfortable position. He fights to hold onto those sounds and sensations, desperately hoping they will drag him out of the dreamworld. But his grip slips. He plummets back into the horrors of his own mind.
It’s not real it’s not real it’s not real
His hands are wet with the gory liquid now and his scarf drenched in it. When he checks for wounds, however, he has none. This blood is not his own.
Of course, it’s not. It never is.
Forms begin to rise from amongst the sea of crimson. Their pupil-less eyes bore into him, seeing all and yet nothing.
“You did this,” they moan, “you sealed our fates.”
They advance, dragging limbs strung on by muscle and sinew alone. Arrows and swords protrude from their decaying bodies, evidence of a battle lost.
Warriors scrambles to his feet, backing up as they grow closer.
“Why did you fight, hero? Why not just give yourself up?”
“It was you she wanted. Not us.”
He can’t breathe. His hands are trembling, scattering droplets of blood with every jerky movement.
“I…I didn’t…I never meant…”
He swallows past the lump in his throat. He wants to say something, needs to, but what can he? What can he do, what can he say to make this better?
“You never meant what?” A familiar voice queries and he looks up to see Mask glaring at him. He stands at the front of the crowd, small body dwarfed by the monsters surrounding him. Blood runs down his face – from his eyes that skewer Warriors’ with an all-too-familiar sharpness, from his mouth, from the wounds that carve themselves into his ashen skin. The Master Sword protrudes sickeningly from his abdomen and he grips the hilt in a white-knuckled fist.
“Sprite?” He chokes out the word.
“Answer me, captain,” Mask says, tone commanding. And suddenly, Warriors is gazing up at Time instead. “What did you not mean to do? To fail? To begin a war and lead countless innocent people to the slaughter?”
He steps forward. The light falls upon his face in just the right way to illuminate the left side. There is no skin there any more. Only bright, white bone.
Warriors backs up, hand pressed to his mouth.
A stalfos? How can that be?
He is certain he is going to be sick.
“No,” he gasps through a throat that is too tight. “No, this…this isn’t real.”
“It’s not? Sure seems real to me. And I would know.”
Warriors turns and there is Legend, standing beside Time, a grim smirk on his lips. There is an arrow embedded in his chest. Dark crimson spreads from the spot.
No!
“Guess you’re gonna have to tell Ilia the news after all,” Twilight says. Gashes criss-cross his body in groups of five. They ooze black blood. “It’s a shame though. I still had so much to do…”
Warriors gasps, breathless and dizzy.
It’snotrealit’snotrealit’snotreal
The faceless have faces now. There is Wind with a sword in his chest, here is Four a spear in his eye. Hyrule is there too and Wild and Sky. All pale-faced, all bloody.
All dead.
“You did this,” they cry, in one-hundred different words, one-hundred different ways. “You could’ve stopped this. You could’ve saved us. Why didn’t you?”
“I’m sorry.” Warriors slides to the ground, heedless of the liquid still swirling at his feet. It soaks into his trousers, drenches his scarf. He doesn’t care. “I’m so sorry.”
Fingers lift his chin. He hadn’t even realized he had allowed his head to droop.
“Link,” Artemis murmurs. “Look at me.”
He doesn’t want to. He’s terrified to even dare hope he will find salvation in those deep blue orbs. Still, slowly, reluctantly, he does. And chokes on a gasp.
His princess stands before him, looking much the same as when he last saw her. Her eyes are afire with a light that is only her own, her stance tall and strong. But, like the others, she is bloodied. Like the others she is mortally wounded.
This time, however, it is his own sword that pierces her chest.
Tears well in his eyes and begin to stream down his cheeks. “Arty?”
No. No, not her too. Please, not her too.
She gazes down at him, expression stern. “Look, Link. Look upon the destruction you have wrought.”
They are all around him now – his brothers – those he swore to himself he would never allow to fall. They close in, gazes accusatory. He has no choice but to stare into those eyes that speak of his guilt, that tell the tale of all he has done and failed to do.
“I’m sorry.” It is all he can say.
“An apology remedies nothing,” Time growls and raises the Biggoron sword. Warriors has mere seconds to realize what is about to happen. His eyes widen, mouth falling open to say something, anything that can make this all stop; hands raising in an unconscious effort to shield himself from the blow.
There is a swoosh of rushing wind, a flash of gleaming metal. The sword comes down.
“Captain… Wars! Wake up!”
Warriors shoots upward with strangled gasp. The endless crimson falls away and the inn room slides into focus. He looks wildly around, taking in the plain, cream-colored walls, the small nightstand, the window through which a crescent moon can be seen.
It wasn’t real.
He buries his head in his hands, dragging in air through too-tight a throat, trembling violently. Bile bites at his tongue and he swallows it back.
“Warriors.”
He drags in a shuddering breath and forces himself to look up. Legend is there, sitting inches from him, an arm outstretched to grasp his shoulder. Concern shines bright in his eyes.
“Ledge,” Warriors rasps. He searches his form in the darkness, looking for some sign of blood and gaping wounds. But there are none. “What…”
“You were dreaming,” Legend says, quietly. His tone is uncharacteristically caring, soft. “It must’ve been pretty bad by the sound of it. Nearly gave me a heart attack.”
Warriors swallows. His throat is terribly hoarse and his mouth dry. His hands lie shaking before him but he dares not look down at them.
“Sorry.”
“An apology remedies nothing.”
He fights against the urge to close his eyes once more and block out the world. Usually, he is alone for these things, to cry and shiver in the aftermath. And he can deal with it. Shove the nightmare from his mind and continue on as he was. But now, with Legend looking at him with something horribly, understandingly sad, he wants nothing more than to simply disappear.
Get a hold of yourself, captain. It was only a dream.
Legend squeezes his shoulder a bit, bringing him back to the present. “Do you uh…you wanna talk about it?”
A harsh spark of laughter escaped from between clenched teeth.
“What is there to talk about?”
The veteran lowers his gaze for a split second, just fast enough that Warriors can’t catch the emotion that flashes across his eyes. He shrugs and the movement is jerky, awkward.
“Suit yourself. But take it from me. It’s easier to face it all when it's out in the open.” He stifles a yawn with the back of his hand. “You don’t have to, though. I’m not gonna force you or anything.”
Warriors blinks, long and hard. Tears prick at the edges of his eyes.
“Yeah…thanks,” he manages. “Sorry to have woken you up. You can go back to sleep now. Wouldn’t want you to miss out on your beauty rest.”
Legend huffs a short chuckle. “We all know it’s you who needs your beauty rest, pretty boy, not me. Hylia help us if you’ve got eye bags in the morning.”
Warriors tries to laugh too, but it comes out sounding more like a sob. He curls in on himself slightly.
“I guess I should try and go back to sleep, then.”
His gaze drifts to where his pillow rests. Right now, lying down upon it and burying himself in the soft sheets feels like nothing less than a death sentence.
…then again so does sitting here, falling apart before his brother’s eyes.
(When he looks at him he can see blood streaming down his face, the arrow piercing his heart. And he’s back there once more, hearing his brothers proclaiming his many sins.)
Legend is still gazing at him, gnawing his lip a little. Warriors dredges up a smile.
“I’ll be okay, vet. Truly. Go back to sleep.”
The hero’s hand slips away and Warriors finds himself almost missing its warmth. He ducks his head, trying to shove away the shame clawing at him, the images still dancing before his sand-paper eyes.
“Alright, you idiot. You’re gonna make me do it, aren’t you?”
Warriors looks up, a frown creasing his forehead. “What…”
In the next moment, Legend wraps his arms around him. His mind stutters to a halt. The veteran isn’t a touchy person, especially not when it comes to emotional situations. He has never even seen him attempt to embrace someone, nor return one when it is given.
“Vet…what are you…”
Legend sighs, testily. “Shut up. You look like you need a hug and no one else is here to do it.”
Warriors stares down at the head of fluffy pink hair that rests on his chest. A smile tugs at his lips. Slowly, he wraps his arms around the small hero, focusing on the warmth of his body, the healthy beat of his heart.
He is alive. His brothers are alive.
A tear slips down his cheek.
“Thanks Legend.”
“Don’t mention it. I would never have been able to get to sleep with you flopping around like a dying fish. So, this isn’t all for your benefit.”
Warriors’ grin grows a little larger. This time it’s genuine. Shaky, but unmistakably real.
“Of course not.”
