#And I have several scenes I wanna write for the Whump Sequel I just need to figure out how they all fit together

Man, I love it when I finally figure out where a piece is going wrong, I just wish it didn't come with the days of existential agony beforehand.
Also I have got to write out this other idea before I forget it. At least that one is for a WIP I already started, not a new one.

Super Fanfic Rec List -- Iron Dad Edition (because I just wanna share the love)
I’ve had such a blast reading fanfic of the IronDad and SpiderSon variety over the last 6 months or so, and I thought I’d just make a rec list of some of my favorite stories.  Most of them are angsty, with whump and hurt/comfort because that’s what I live for.
This is in no particular order or in any way complete because there’s just way too many amazing fics/authors in the Iron Dad fandom, but it will still be hella long, so....here goes!
First off, @yellowdistress:
What We Are series - Bio-dad Tony series that goes all the way through Infinity War.  Endgame AU.
Someday I’ll Make it Out of Here series - Adoption AU!  It’s so good.
The Missing 92 Days - A take on HYDRA Peter that destroyed me emotionally.
Reviving Peter Parker - This about killed me.  Peter actually died during his fight with Toomes and SHIELD brings him back a la the TAHITI project like they did with Phil Coulson.
A Sailor Went to Sea - Gut-wrenching Endgame fix it.
Double, Double
@losingmymindtonight:
Webcams and Webshooters series
I Never Lived ‘Til I Lived In Your Light series - !!! TISSUE WARNING !!! Peter dies, but there’s another one shot with a happier ending if you need it.
And You’ll Blow Us All Away - Adoption fic!  A lovely one at that.
5 Times Peter’s Mental Illness Made Him Stumble And The 1 Time He Refused To Falter - I really love a well-depicted take on mental illness, and losingmymindtonight delivered 100%.
If You Can’t Catch A Breath (You Can Take The Oxygen Straight Out Of My Own Chest)
Cyanide? In My Shawarma?
@justme--emily:
The Guardian - Adoption AU with a lovely Loki and Peter friendship!
Radioactive - Peter endures the after effects of the spider bite, and scares bio-dad Tony to death.  Lovely, lovely, lovely.
The Good Fight - Peter gets hurt at the airport in Germany instead of Rhodey.
@iron--spider:
ever in your favor - Hunger Games AU and an epic work of art!
Lazarus, come forth - The Endgame fix it before Endgame.  Peter will break your heart.
dear mr. fantasy
this isn’t a game - Highly underrated fic based off the PS4 Spider-Man game.  I’ve never even played the game, and I loved this story.
what if there is no tomorrow? - This story actually made me kinda like Justin Hammer, if you can believe it.
blindness
@tempestaurora:
hydra’s not a home series - HYDRA Peter, and also bio-dad Tony and bio-mom Pepper!
i’ll find you in the drift - Pacific Rim AU, and I have never seen PR, but I adored this so much.
it’s okay, we’re okay [whumpvember 2018] series
@jolinarjackson:
Lights To Guide You Home series - Another adoption AU.  They are my weakness, and this is one of the best out there.
... and when you can’t crawl ...
Damaged At Best (Like You’ve Already Figured Out)
@blondsak:
No Life But This
come morning light (you and I’ll be safe and sound)
Burying Grounds - Eeeek!  Tony has to choose between saving Peter or Pepper and it hurts.
hold on, hold on
Something the Soul Needs
@madasthesea:
turn back the clock (and I’ll try again in the morning)
when my body won’t hold me anymore (where will I go)
They have so many other lovely looking fics--including an adoption au series (which I, of course, love), but I just haven’t gotten around to reading them yet.  I’m pretty sure anything they write is golden.  :)
@signofuncertainty:
It’s Always the Little Things
I’m sure their other fic, The Third Option, is fantastic and I really, really wanna read it but I’m trying so hard to wait until it’s complete!  It’s really difficult to wait, though, tbh....I may give in soon.
@upcamethesun:
Twelve Days Of Peter Parker - So cute and fluffy, and then it kills you at the end.
5 Times Peter Made Tony Laugh Out Loud
5 Times Tony Didn’t Need To Worry About Peter
5 Times Peter Pretended To Be Tougher Than He Was
@frostysunflowers:
Between how it is and how it should be - This story made me love a Peter and Bucky friendship.
@kitcat992:
Identity Theft - This was one of the very first Iron Dad fics I read, and it was a doozy.  Full of whump, medical accuracy, and hurt/comfort!  The author is posting a sequel now, too: Identity Crisis.  :D
For Pete’s Sake!
@camelot-queen:
Goner - A perfectly heartbreaking kidnapping fic, but heed the warnings!
Who Saves The Hero
Never Meet Your Heroes
i’m the satellite (and you’re the sky) - Tony is Peter’s bio-dad but Peter doesn’t know it.  I haven’t actually finished this yet, but it’s good.  So, so good.
@peter-stank:
built from scraps - YOU GUYS, this is one of the best fics I’ve read on AO3.  It’s a ‘Tony gets dusted instead of Peter’ AU, and it’s got such an amazing dynamic between Peter, Pepper, and Morgan.  It’ll also make you tear up a few times, at least.
@geekymoviemom:
Sins of the Fathers - So, I’ve only read the first 5 chapters of this epic length (303k words@) adoption AU so far, but I’m LOVING it so I wanted to add it here.  They also have an even longer bio-dad Tony with added Stony bonus series, Pieces of Echoes, that they’re posting the 3rd installment to right now.  I’ll definitely be checking it out!
@too-many-bees:
let’s kick it
like a bridge over troubled water
@jbsforever:
it’ll be over (and I’ll still be asking when)
@tnyystark:
where the memories reside
@whumphoarder:
Quieting the Void series - Peter kinda has an eating disorder due to the spider bite, so take care if you read!
Poison Apple - Loved how medically accurate this was, and Ned’s reaction to Peter’s condition was heartbreaking.
@seek-rest:
It Hurts to Become
Someday We’ll Know - This is a Walk to Remember AU, so there’s MCD.  I’ve gotten about halfway through, but I can only read it when I’m in the right mindset.  But it’s lovely and so well done.
This author has so many fics that I’m sure are amazing, and they’re on my ‘to read’ list when I’m in the mood for beautiful Spideychelle stories.
@caraminha:
The Primary Reason Tony Stark Would Throw Down With an Anti-Vaxxer in the Street - Hella scary depiction of Peter with tetanus, and it’s SO GOOD.
@tonystarkstan:
it all comes back to this
skeletons series
to build a home series - I love recovery fics, and this was a beautiful story of Peter dealing with the aftermath of being snapped and coming back.
lay your weary head to rest
@foolscapper:
Exploding Head Syndrome - Everyone comes back when the snap is reversed, but Peter is sort of catatonic--stuck between the living world and the soul stone where he’s with Gamora.  It’s such a lovely fic.
@alice-in-ink:
It’s a Little Bit We Do
Danger Pizza
@legalassie:
oh, darling - Peter’s kidnapped and Tony frantically searches for him--one of my favorite things.  Peter uses his smarts to help him get out of the situation, too, which is also one of my favorite things.
don’t think about tomorrow.
@blackwatchandromeda:
Broken Thoughts (I Remember Everything)
Leave Me to Dream
A Nightmare to Remember
@emma--anacortes:
Accepting the Tides - Here I am with another adoption AU.  Can you see a pattern yet?  I love them, and this one has danger and whump and comfort as well.
@ardenskyedarcy221b:
they are standing in the garden - This hurt.  Several times the author had me tearing up and there’s a few lines that will stay with me forever.  It was just immensely lovely to read.
@iamallyetnotatall:
At the Start of the Universe - This was so much better than I was expecting! Peter is an Angel, and he knows Tony from the very beginning of the universe. It’s different, but absolutely gorgeous.
@starktowr:
somewhere outside my life - I don’t wanna say too much, but just read this.  It’ll break you and you’ll love it.
@jessicagoddamnjones:
too bad (but it’s the life you lead)
@silver-bubbles:
The Fire’s Out (But Still It Burns)
@day-dreamer176:
Like A Strike of Lightning - I kinda took this as a demonic possession a la Supernatural, but I don’t think it actually was.  Either way, it was fantastic.
fifty-four
five, tops
The World Stopped
@ambivalentmarvel:
Into His Fold series - Where Thanos brings Peter back from the ashes to make him into his new son (a la Nebula and Gamora).
@notaparty-trick:
Doom and Gloom - A ‘Peter doesn’t get dusted’ AU, filled with whump and Iron Dad and an awesome Carol Danvers.  Angst!!!
Dust and Blood - Peter is hurt much worse when Toomes drops the building on him.  More angst!!!!  This author does angst very well.
@ema--vee:
You don’t have to hold your head up high - Peter can’t thermoregulate!  I love that trope.
@forensicleaf:
All the Things We’ve Lost (And All the Things We’ve Gained) - This one gutted me, and then made it better.  But there’s pain to be had before the comfort!
They just posted the first chapter of a new WIP that looks AMAZING, too: Can’t Part the Sea, Can’t Reach the Shore.
@plnkblue:
foolish, fragile spine - Peter’s severely injured in his fight with Adrian Toomes and Tony finds him.
@helloitisiafellowgay:
god did not craft us as altars, but as dying gods - Okay, guys.  This one is heavy.  It deals with Skip coming back into Peter’s life, and it’s not pretty but it’s handled superbly.  It’s a tough read, but one I definitely recommend if you can handle it.  Take care of yourselves first and foremost, though.  <3
~ ~ ~ I’m not sure if the following authors have a tumblr, so I just linked their AO3 pages ~ ~ ~
eccentric_artist_221b:
Only for a Little While - This is a Titanic AU, and it’s AMAZING.  There’s several scenes that just took my breath away and brought me to tears (not an easy feat). They’re also working on a WWI sequel!!!!
tiaylasglass:
the one who made it out - Short, simple in a gorgeous way, and poignant.
And finally, I thought I’d humbly add my own little contribution to the fandom.  So far, I’ve only written the one fic, but I hope to write more in the future!
@ghostinthebau:
For Want of a Dad (in need of a son) - There’s a bit of blood, and a very distraught Tony at one point, so warning for angst and injury!
Again, this list is probably severely lacking, and if someone has a rec that’s not on here please please please reblog this and let me know!  I’m always in the mood for more fics.
And I hope anyone reading this finds something they enjoy!
I’m sure you will.

Challenge: list the WIPs you promised you’d update, and why you haven’t yet
I was tagged by my darling mutual and friend @frownyalfred!
This one seems fun so I'll tag a bunch of people:
@whetstonefires @mikkeneko @lurkinglurkerwholurks @audreycritter @boostergoldsmissingarm @medusaceratops @unpretty @audreycritter @sohotthateveryonedied @oh-mother-of-darkness @huilian @yuzukimist
------
I tell myself I don't need anybody (But the truth is nobody needs me)
The reason for this one is actually justifiable! Because of my gameplan for the plot of the fic in order to continue it I need to finish my readthrough of ALL of the modern captain atom comics, a bunch of the crisis event chemo Bludhaven comics and maybe a couple of other ancillary comics of that era too, before I even get to writing the nitty gritty of the fic!
Unfortunately my online readthrough stalled for a while because of IRL difficulties and I've yet to get back into my swing there. Nonetheless I'm still very hyped for this fic once I have everything ready for it.
The second chapter of this is actually all but ready to publish!
Due to the fact it's plot relevant but not connected to either the Captain Atom/Chemo Drop canon which I'm still in the process of untangling for the sake of the plot.
The only things left to worry about for the second chapter before I publish is if it A. breaks up the mood of the fic that was set up in chapter 1 too much, it's a bit of an interlude so the mood is drastically different from the gritty feel of the first chapter and B. some minor characterisation details in the dialogue of one of the characters towards the end of the second chapter. Basically it just needs a little more editing on a paragraph or two and then we're set to post.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Maelstrom
I actually told people I was unlikely to update it until I got some inspiration so this maybe doesn't quite fit the bill of the challenge.
Nonetheless, the major reason I haven't updated this one is I thought of a way to start off the second chapter after waking up one day but didn't write it down so I forgot and now every time I attempt to start it there's a vague but strong sense of subconscious dis-satisfaction.

Call Me
I actually came to several conclusions recently about just why it is I've struggled to update this when I said I would!
_
I wrote the first chapter of this wip like 3 years ago and haven't updated it since (god that feels really terrible to say! I'm sorry you guys) but anyway I wrote it three years ago and have been poking at it forlornly ever since as the comments pile up unanswered (Again I'm so sorry haha).
Suddenly! Hope shone! And I wrote 2k of the second chapter out of nowhere just last week!
Now I really don't wanna lose that momentum and, well, hope to ride it enough to actually get the fic's second part done!
But at the same time it's hard to write when you don't really have any desires for scenes you can't wait to include or get to. At least that's what I've found about myself. Like I mostly just want to resolve the fic which I didn't in the first chapter but that's not very concrete as writing motivation goes y'know? Or not concrete enough to INSPIRE apparently.
So it occurred to me oh shit wait I suddenly know why writing this is such a struggle!
Originally when I wrote that first chapter of Call Me it was because I was inspired by @firefrightfic and @skalidra's co written fic Raw Nerve
Which is an abo fic wherein Jason Todd (robin of my heart) gets assaulted by Black Mask and calls Roy for help from the safety of one of his safehouses and then Roy comes in and like helps Jason recover and then helps him kill black mask - which, great fic just super well written and fun
But I was like, Craving the batdad hardcore at the time because the combined excellence @audreycritter, @medusaceratops, @fuyunoakegata and @cerusee were spoiling me with that!
So I wanted to write a version with the same premise but if Jason had called Bruce instead of Roy? And where it wasn't ABO though I only really changed that bit because I have no idea how to write that especially (or how to write in general) so I decided to make things easier on myself at least a little bit
AND THUS!
In the first chapter I already had Jason call Bruce and got to have Bruce have that major moment of r e a l i s a t i o n that was so fun in the fic I was originally drawing inspiration from, y'know?
So now it's like gah, I got the realisation whump and the hurt/comfort already what else do I want here?
Because honestly Bruce ain't gonna kill black mask this we know and writing someone beat the shit out of a rapist while fun in theory isn't actually something that gets my muse to perk up?
So right now the way I'm approaching the wip is just, thinking up potentially fun scenarios to include in the second chapter and seeing where they take me. At the very least it's melted from the cryofreeze my writer's block placed it in and instead of just chipping at it futilely I feel like I'm writing/making more progress with it again finally.
I know many of the people who love the fic think I left it in a good spot and don't think it necessarily needs a sequel chapter but to me it's unfinished, so I want to complete it no matter what!

for the end of year ask game - all the prime numbers!
aaah thank you! let’s pretend I didn’t google a prime number chart for this. putting it under a cut bc it’s loooong
1. Favorite fic I wrote this year
Answered here!
2. Least favorite fic I wrote this year
Answered here!
3. Favorite line/scene I wrote this year
I’ve also answered this one, but I feel like I want to pick another. I’ll pick one I haven’t posted...
In truth, she doesn’t know if that’s a factor or not, but she hates this waiting, this holding out hope. She would much rather know firmly that Will doesn’t have a daemon; then she could begin working the problem, doing the math, figuring out a solution.
It’s from my Lost in Space daemon au, and I love it bc of Maureen’s characterization; I feel like I got it spot-on.
5. Most popular fic this year
Answered here!
7. Longest completed fic I wrote this year
Reunited! I actually am really proud of this one-- it’s a Psych au where Shawn and Juliet meet pre-canon and have a baby by the time the show rolls around. It was a lot of fun to write-- I’ve missed the vibes of s1-- and I hope to give it sequels soon!
11. Fandom you enjoyed writing for the most this year
Okay, it’s gotta be a tie. Psych I definitely wrote the most for, and I really enjoy it-- love the characters, love the versatility of the show. I can write hardcore angst or ridiculous fluff and it all could fit into canon (mostly). Plus, this year brought us Lassie Come Home, which I’ve already written a plethora of fics set after it. I loooove Psych and I love the gang on the psych discord!
Second place (although it’s honestly a tie) is Call the Midwife. I go through Phases that make me wanna write for it. In January of this year when I finished s7 I was like “WHAT the fuck” and felt  strong need to open up a google doc and fix that mess. In October I watched s9 and got into a new OTP. After I already knew one of them wouldn’t be around for s10, bc I’m Like That. But I really love all the emotional plotlines and the wonderful characters. There is a barely-tapped well of inspiration there.
13. favorite writing song/artist/album of this year
Taylor Swift. She’s got music for everything. Writing fluff? Fearless. Romance? Lover. Angst? Folklore. Stream evermore, guys!
17. fics you’ll continue next year
Oh, there’s multiple... I’ll talk about ones on AO3 I wanna continue.
It All Happens for a Reason: my absolute baby. the fic I am the most proud of, ever. I haven’t written or updated it in a while (and I used to be so good at weekly updates! I’m sorry!) but I’m gonna get back to it, I promise!
Hush: I have more chapters ready to post, but my xmas fic took over its posting slot. I’m def gonna keep working on it though! It’s got everything you want from a drawn-out whump fic, including feels and realistic (I hope) recovery!
I Think I’ll Just Collapse Right Here, Thanks: valtrix whump fic set at the end of s9. I wanna keep working on it but the holidays have swamped me! More vintage lesbian feels coming 2021.
Nothing in the World That Could Stop It: I have PLANS for this one, my psych zombie apocalypse au! It’s loads of fun as it’s a genre I don’t write often. Although it’s also a  combination of other genres I write very often... the point is, it’s cool!
Wow, those are the only posted WIPs I still have to write! That makes me feel better, actually.
19. any new fics to start next year
oh man... ones I want to start next year? Well, probably a few sequels for Reunited (see above) and generally other fics that will go in existing series. If all goes well I’ll have several for my CTM canon divergence series! It’s quite similar to It All Happens for a Reason-- I’m taking canon and giving my favs babies and also not killing them
23. fics you wanted to write but didn’t
Off the top of my head, a sequel to Couldn’t Hide From the Thunder where Eve goes through her Teenage Transformation (we all had that year we wanted to be Completely Different) and cuts her hair based off an old picture of her mom. Sister Monica Joan (who is immortal, sorry, I don’t make the rules) consequently mistakes her for Barbara. Actually, multiple people do, but Sister Monica Joan is the hardest to explain otherwise.
So basically... okay I tried to put captain holt’s paaaain gif in there but tumblr doesn’t like that >:(
Thanks so much for all the asks! Send in end of the year fic asks!

Today I took a break from actual writing and wrote a crack fic about @losingmymindtonight @caraminha @keep-a-bucket-full-of-stars and @parkrstark ....um. Yep. Here’s 1k words of crack. Enjoy, my iconic ladies and all other fans of @starklovinjuice ;)
...
“Can you hear us now?” Kat says loudly and slowly, holding up her phone so the Skype cam fits herself, Shannon and Leah in the frame.
“Yes, babe,” Maren’s voice affirms over the speaker, patient as ever. “You just keep going in and out when you move the phone around too much.”
“HI, MAREN!!” Leah calls, waving happily until the girl on the phone smiles and waves back.
“Alright people,” Shannon says seriously, turning back to the sidewalk that the three Americans are standing on. “We’ve got work to do.”
It’s a beautiful summer’s day, a perfect day for the mission they have in mind: they’re out to collect research.
Not just any research, though, no no; they’re out to look for whump ideas.
First stop: the Life Science Museum.
As they enter, Shannon studiously pulls a pencil from behind her ear and chews the end, notebook in hand. She looks over the museum map.
“‘Deadly reptiles exhibit,’ sounds promising…” she murmurs.
“There’s a live animal show at 2!” Leah exclaims, pointing at a sign.
“Hang on, I lost connection again,” Kat says distractedly. She wanders off to find a better WiFi spot.
Meanwhile, in the UK, Maren spins in her computer chair idly, waiting for the call to reconnect. As she waits, she clicks through tumblr posts and cackles at the woeful reactions to her latest story update. Mmm, the tears of her readers are like a fine wine.
When the call reconnects, the video that pops up is an image of a growling canine. She furrows her brows. “Babes, what am I looking at?” she asks.
Kat’s voice is giggling. “Check it out!” she says, backing up so that the whole display is visible. It’s a predator-and-prey exhibit, and under the claws of the snarling stuffed wolf is a replica severed deer head.
A child passing by is heard: “Mommy, look, the doggie found his lunch!”
“Guys, what if Peter got attacked by wolves?” Leah gasps. “He could get, like, separated from IronDad in the woods!”
“How is he supposed to get attacked by wolves when he lives in New York City?” Kat asks thoughtfully.
“No, no, she’s on to something,” Shannon says. She brings up her notepad and begins scribbling like mad. “Let’s say Tony takes him on a camping trip, you know, for bonding and what-not…”
“I mean, I whumped Peter in the woods of NYC in my fic,” Maren interjects. “So it’s possible.”
“Maren, we can’t all be as amazing as you,” Kat stage-whispers. The two wiggle their eyebrows at each other.
When they leave the museum an hour later, the visiting families and other people sigh in relief.
Next stop is a park where they sit to eat lunch (or in Maren’s case, dinner). They’re gathered on a bench in the shade, listening to the sounds of children playing and birds chirping.
“Aww, look,” Leah coos, pointing to a Dad holding his toddler’s fingers and helping him take little steps across the grass. “Reminds me of Shannon’s de-aged Peter fic.”
Shannon smiles humbly. “You know, Leah, you could really capitalize on toddler Peter in your AU,” she comments. “Growing up with Tony as his biological dad, he’s bound to have been kidnapped once or twice as a baby.”
“Imagine if he were kidnapped and put in a tower like Rapunzel,” Maren says around a mouthful of fish and chips (British food, you know). “And he grew up thinking some abusive person were his parent, while Tony mourns him…”
“...Only to find him when he’s a teenager and bring him home for an abundance of sleepy cuddles,” Kat finishes.
“And forehead kisses!” Leah adds.
“Does he have to have magic hair in this AU, or…?” Shannon teases, but she’s already writing in her notebook.
“Please can Ned be Flynn Ryder,” Maren says, making Kat snort juice.
Last stop of the day is Leah’s house, where they’re having a sleepover that night. (Leah warns them in advance to keep out of way of the artist living in her basement… that person is dangerously unpredictable and tends to polish off the family supply of ice cream when nobody’s home.)
Kat’s phone charges nearby, still with Maren’s face showing (albeit, she looks much more ready to fall asleep than the rest of them).
As they gather in the living room, Leah displays their collection of DVDs and pulls out the most important ones (Iron Man And Spider-Man:Homecoming, of course).
“Okay, ladies,” Leah says, “which would you rather watch first?”
“IronDad first,” Kat suggests. “I like watching his captivity scenes. Gives me ideas for And You’ll Blow Us All Away.”
“I bet I could bootleg a version of Infinity War,” Shannon says slyly, “if you want even MORE ideas for the sequel…”
“That babe is too powerful,” Maren calls, yawning. “I vote yes, though.”
“Same,” Kat agrees.
“Okay, just make sure the FBI can’t trace it back to me,” Leah shrugs, sliding the laptop to Shannon to work her magic. “I don’t need to go back to jail…” (the others can’t tell if she’s joking).
They end up watching the “I don’t wanna go Mr. Stark” scene about fifty times on a loop. Nobody has dry eyes by the time they turn the tv off, except Maren, who has fallen asleep.
“Well… R.I.P. me…” Kat sniffs.
Shannon wipes her tears, looking determined. “It was for science,” she declares. “We did good things today.”
“I don’t know about you all, but I’m ready to write,” Leah agrees.
By midnight, the three US authors have added to their WIPs significantly, with Kat even posting a one-shot to the Tumblr Archives about Peter dying from the perspective of Tony later on when Peter says “I’m sorry” about something trivial after he’s back from the dead (with much input and collaboration from the others).
They’re dead asleep when Maren tries to FaceTime the next morning. The UK girl just huffs at her silly American wives and goes to get herself some tea.
Overall, it is, in fact, a perfect day.
The END.
