First

A giant cloud of smoke invaded your line of sight and you coughed, waving your hand to push away the smoke. Your eyes shut tight, you hear maniacal laughter from the smoke.

"It's showtime."

You scream and fell back, the smoke disappeared and revealed a man. A plump man wearing a disgusting black and white suit, his face pale which heavily contrasted his dark eyes and green hair.

"Hey there!" He smiled and showed his sharp teeth and you yelped.

"What the fuck are you!?" The man laughed again.

"The ghost with the most, the demon with a meanin', the man of your dreams!" He whispered right afterwards "Or nightmares if you're into that."

Your face scrunched in confusion as you stood, "Are you." You grabbed the fallen business card.

"Betelgeuse?" You pointed to the small bug man. He nodded.

"Except I'm way hotter, don't you agree?" He smirked and threw his arm onto your shoulder.

"Now. Why'd ya summon me. Money? Revenge? Lust?" His eyebrows wiggled and you shivered.

"What? No!" You threw his arm off of you and backed away. "I didn't even mean to 'summon' you. I just read from the card." You used air quotes with the word summon. Looking at the card you scrunch your eyebrows.

The strange man looked around the room, grumbling about how you don't have any picture books.

"So what are you exactly?" You asked and he perked up.

"Well" he snatched the card and pointed at the words 'Bio-Exorcist'. "I get rid of the living."

"Like a hitman?"

He shrugged. "Something like that. I'm normally hired by ghosts, ghouls, spirits, poltergeists. They hire me to get rid of you." His dirty hand poked your chest and you slapped it away.

"Well no ghosts, ghouls or spirits here."

"Not even a poltergeist?" You shook your head.

"Damn you're boring." He huffed.

"If you have no business to attend to here. Then leave." You crossed your arms, the man shakes his head.

"Oh ya can't get rid of me that easy babes!" He started to float and you backed up, not expecting that.

"Ya can't just leave me like that, ya practically givin me blue balls!" He smirked and suddenly with a snap of his finger you started to float too.

"What- put me down!" You yelled.

"Come on, let's have some fun while I'm here!" You started to uncontrollably spin. Ya this is gonna take awhile to get used too.

It took an hour for him to put you back on the ground, only after he tried to twirl you and dip you into a kiss. Which you socked him in the face for.

"Damn tough crowd" he felt his swollen cheek as he sat on your loveseat in your living room. You came into the room with a bag of ice, "I'm not sorry for punching you." You said and handed him the bag.

"Fair."

"So how are you able to do all that..magic?" You asked and sat next to him. He laughed.

"Magic..ha! Honey that's just talent." You raised your brow and he huffed.

"I'm only able to use it if a mortal says my name three times." He grumbles, the ice started to melt.

"Like an activation spell?" You said, remembering your life in the 70s playing dungeons and dragons with a group of nerds.

He nodded.

"But I'm not a mortal." You said and his eyes widened.

"What?" He grabbed your shoulder. "Well ya alive ain't ya?!" He said a bit too loudly and you frowned.

"I'm an immortal." You confessed and he let you go.

"A wha-now?" You laughed from seeing his face scrunch in confusion.

"I can't die." You explained and his eyes widened.

"Can I test out that theory?" He snapped his fingers and suddenly he held a knife. You raised a brow.

"Maybe another time." You took the knife from him and left to the kitchen.

Setting the knife down on the counter you sighed, gladly he didn't follow you. You needed a breather. It's been about four hours since you've met the demon ghost man and every minute is pure confusion.

Does his mere existence mean there is an afterlife, or the exact opposite? You want to ask him all of these questions but something in your gut is saying it's better if you don't know. I mean it's not like you're dying anytime soon anyways.

"Uh babes? What ya thinkin'?" You yelped and grabbed the knife turning towards him you pointed the knife at his face.

"Woah there!" He pushed the knife away.

"If ya wanted to get rid of me that bad ya coulda just asked." He chuckled and you frowned.

"Sorry, just...not used to other people in my house."

"Our house." He stated and you raised a brow.

"Pardon."

"I've taken a liking to this house." He hummed.

"So." He twirled and suddenly had two suitcases in his hands.

"Hello roomie!"

GoT Afterthoughts ep. 08x01 ‘Winterfell’ (Part 1)

Whew! I’m sorry this has taken so long. I’ve got two munchkins home from school with a stomach bug, and they’ve been cutting into my rewatch and write-up.

So, a few things before we kick this bad boy off... I have not read or interacted much with anyone (except writing up that post yesterday about the opening creds) and I have avoided the discord server (even though I’m DYING to gush) as to not skew my own perception of the episode. Those of you who follow my blog know that I am partial to political!jon, but here’s your heads up for anyone else that just stumbled onto this recap. And with that...

We begin the journey of our last season similarly to the way we began our very first: An excited Winter Town boy frantically scrambling to find a better view of the royal retinue marching on Winterfell—complete with the same musical score. Let’s call that strike one against Jon and Dany, as we all know what a farce that first royal couples’ relationship was.

This boy, as he shimmies up a nearby tree, very much reminds me of a combination of both Arya and Bran in the pilot — Arya even spies him and smiles, as she stands watching with the smallfolk (a nice book nod). Her face at initially seeing her big brother Jon makes my heart skip a few beats, and I kind of got the feeling she was going to call out for him, but changed her mind. She looks down then, and I’m honestly so worried for their reunion because they have both changed so much, and Arya isn’t the same little girl he remembers.

Her smile fades as Jon and Dany pass her by, and the Hound comes into view. Her feelings with Sandor have always been complicated, but we don’t have much time to dwell on that, because Gendry rounds the corner and there’s a different kind of smile lighting up Arya’s face now—and I’m so stoked for their reunion, because it’s what I deserve. WE ALL DESERVE THIS OKAY?!?!?!

And what do we have here? Ahhhh yes, the typical D&D ‘cock’ and/or (in this case) ‘balls’ banter via Varys and Tyrion as they once again travel together in another wooden box. You know, we damn well better get the payoff to the jackass/honeycomb/brothel joke this season, or I swear by the old gods and the new that I’m blowing up the Sept of Baelor... oh wait.

Missandei looks visibly uncomfortable at the impassive stares of the Northerners as they ride by. However, Jon did warn them about the North—which he reiterates to a rather annoyed looking Dany, who no doubt expected a much more warmer welcoming for coming to “save the North”—but it’s pretty clear there will be no Myhsa crowd-surfing here.

A screeching overhead sends the Northerners frantically running for cover as a smug-looking Daenerys smirks proudly at the fear her dragon children instill when they split the skies above. Let’s be real here — that was no coincidence. Remember this?

Dany is in complete control of Drogon, and let’s call a spade a spade: this was a cheap intimidation tactic driven by spite. And I honestly can’t even say I blame the girl, but it’s probably not the best way to make new friends, either—especially when they are all of the mindset that “a Targaryen cannot be trusted”. Just sayin’, Dany girl.

And we have Arya’s reaction to seeing Dragons for the first time as they soar high up over Winterfell and Sansa, who watches from the ramparts. Sansa’s reaction is quite similar to Cersei’s—as in, she really doesn’t have one. Someone please cue My Chick Bad by Ludacris!!

Jon and Dany enter the courtyard and Jon springs from his horse to bring Bran in for a signature Stark squeeze and a forehead kiss (another season one callback). He proudly admires how Bran has grown and is now a man, only for Bran to answer with some vague and emotionless three-eyed raven shit, before staring down Daenerys while Jon moves to Sansa’s open arms.

*Perhaps no one informed Jon about Bran going all sentient-being?

I’m sure most of you already noticed that while this is supposed to be the same hug scene we were shown in the HBO teaser, it’s not the same shot, nor the same angle. In the teaser, Jon makes this soft face and goes straight to Sansa’s arms...

But in the actual episode, Jon goes straight to Bran’s arms, and his expression is quite different...

And in the teaser the hug is much longer in duration, and Sansa doesn’t look up at Dany until the end—still not relinquishing her hold on Jon.

However, in the episode, we get a shorter version and a different angle, while Bran and Sansa simultaneously stink-eye Dany the entire time.

*please note Jon’s expression isn’t the same as it is in the hbo teaser—which begs to differ WHY they chose such a romantic shot of these siblings to hype the final season? I mean, I know why... do you? 😉

Annnnnnd moving right along. Jon asks where his darling baby sister Arya has gotten to, as to which Sansa replies “lurking somewhere” — which is an odd response, but I’m not gonna lie, it did make me chuckle a little. If I had to make a guess on this odd dialogue (other than the D’s just suck at dialogue sometimes), I imagine it serves the purpose of leading Jon to assume that the girls still have the same strained relationship of their youth.

Not one to stand by idle while getting eye-fucked from all directions (and not in a good way), Dany sashays over to be introduced to the stunning redhead Jon was hugging on, to learn she is (only) his sister (whew!), and the Lady of Winterfell. And with that said, I need to take a moment to address something to all the antis who will probably hop on this post (cuz I know y’all are there): Jon is NOT the Lord of Winterfell. Winterfell does NOT belong to him, not even as warden of the North, not even a little bit. He has no say, no ownership, no NOTHING on Winterfell. The only way he becomes the Lord of Winterfell is if he marries his cousin, Sansa Stark — which is just ONE of the many reasons WHY a marriage between them is advantageous. Tell your friends.

The tension kicks up a notch as the introductions proceed and Dany feeds Sansa platitudes of how beautiful she and the North are. Perhaps her words are meant to be kind, but after all she’s been through, Sansa is not here for the bullshit — remember how nice Miranda was in the beginning too? Besides, my girl’s jealousy is so thick, she’s almost GREEN. So, giving Dany a full-bodied once over, she haughtily replies “Winterfell is yours, Your Grace.”

Annnnnnd...

Before a full-blown catfight ensues, Bran throws some ice on the situation—and by ice, I mean ice dragon (harr harr harrrr). The wall has come down, and your dragon is one of them now, he informs Dany—whom of course is horrified by the news. (And probably by Bran too, as I assume she, like Jon, did not get the Bran is the 3ER memo).

We move into the Great Hall where we learn that Sansa has already made the intelligent decision to call all their banners to retreat to Winterfell as soon as they knew that the wall had fallen. Little Ned Umber isn’t really sure whom he’s supposed to address or how (bless his little heart), but in any event, he’s getting the horses and carts he needs to safely bring the rest of his people back to Winterfell. Jon tells the maester to summon the Nights Watch as well.

And of course you know little Lady Mormont has some shit to say. She’s not pleased with the turn of events and wastes no time voicing her opinion and stirring the ire of the Northerners. But hey,

(Sorry, I couldn’t help myself).

But more on that later, because Jon looks really nervous as little Lyanna throws shade — and his first instinct is to turn and share a look with his sister, errr wife, cousin!, Sansa.

I feel like he was looking to her for support, but she’s got none to offer at the moment. So, he pulls himself together and tries to calm the dissent by giving another rousing ‘we need allies and I brought them’ speech, and he actually says something VERY interesting here: “I had a choice: keep my crown or protect the north. I chose the north.” I mean, he ain’t lying, and the best place to hide something is right in plain sight, after all—and of course nothing about that statement sounds political or off at all, does it? I mean, because the Dany stans/jonerii insist that Dany agreed and was FULLY onboard to come north before Jon bent the knee, so why would he say that, then? Go on, tell me...

Tyrion decides to throw in his unwanted .02 — simultaneously backing up Jon and feeding Dany’s savior complex (the greatest army blah blah blah — gods, I cannot wait until everyone sees how useless the dragons will be against the NK, especially when using them to roast the wights puts their own soldiers at risk). His words aren’t met with any gratitude when he also drops the bomb that another enemy house of the North is also on its way to Winterfell.

Sansa is taken aback but recovers quickly. Armed with her signature snark, she asks how they’re expected to feed the ‘worlds greatest army’ — something she did not prepare for — chased by a sassy, “what do dragons eat, anyway?”

But wa-wa-wait, HOLD UP. Did Dany just— Did she just throw down the gauntlet?

Why, I believe she did, my friends! jskslkdlsksjsklslsljsllsl 😂😂😂😂

I can’t even with this episode, guys. It’s like I’m watching a medieval version of Melrose Place (google it, youngin’s) with Jane and Sydney throwing shots by the poolside!

Okay, okay, but all joking and snark aside, Sansa has got a valid point. She isn’t prepared to feed all these extra mouths PLUS two fucken huge dragons. I mean, winter is here, and where could they possibly find enough food to sustain everyone? It’s almost as if the show is making it a point to remind us about the lack of food and where did we last see wagons loaded with food? Oh right, I remember...

Put this one behind Northern Independence on the list of ‘Petty Things That Won’t Matter Because the AotD is Coming’ — you know, because who needs food to survive? And who the hell wants independence, anyway?

Moving right along, and holy mother, maiden and crone, this is getting long and I’ve barely scratched the first 15 minutes of the show!

You know what? Nevermind, I’m just gonna go ahead and publish this, and post the rest tomorow when I finish it — I know y’all are thirsty anyway. lol Forgive the sloppiness, as I did this ALL on mobile, and my paragraph breaks kept disappearing and arrrrrghh tumblr!

[Author’s note: Sorry about the long break! I caught a bug and haven’t been able to edit for love or money. I have been writing the live blogs as the episodes come out but I suspect I will have to edit the stuffing out of them to get something that is both coherent and not twice as long as the show. Also I’m going to try to remember to toss a cut at the top of these things so it doesn’t take up so much of the dash etc.]

I love when they go auctioneer because they want to get to the content faster. Ooh reminder that the party have slightly conflicting goals. I almost spaced that Zolf's priority is the info to save the world while Cel is more narrowly focused on taking out the threat to their village.

Final bets on whether: 1) the timelines are simultaneous 2) its the same room 3) who(or what) is in the chair ~Hamid time~ Another stealth check and I think Alex rolled something secret. I love these nerds, I don't think they even noticed they slipped into the more precise language of math to describe the place, always makes me feel trusted when people don't hide that kind of thing. Bulk head doors are a good sign. Alex might be trying to build up to it but Bryn wants to get a description of the figure in the chair as badly as we do if not more. Full blank-masked male, cables from the chair to the organ. Ben, sweetie, we aren't going to shoot-first-ask-questions-later, or even take that as your serious suggestion moments after you reminded us Zolf is aiming for capture. "Could be another one of the dead bodies" Pardon me while I glitch on the idea that it being another member of the doomed party is the only thing that I can't recall being proposed over the last week. Am I forgetting or did Figgis actually come up as a suggestion but not that? Alex adds a ladder, to save Hamid one of his last spells "Tension, tension, tension" I can't parse how many of them are chanting but who ever that is, know I adore you. I should be vibrating from stress and instead I'm grinning like a fool. Thats my boy! Hamid's spell slots might be running scary low but his mind is sharp as ever, he remembers his potions! Oh dangerous game, but the extra time invisible as he gets closer sounds worth it. Picked up a few things from Sasha. "Think" Alex is actively trolling. The lights are bad? You choose to do that, Alex, put away the "victim of circumstances" tone. Oh the organ! I needed a better description of that. Lydia might be the only one who loves this description more than me. A pipe organ that makes potions instead of music? Bryn has heard of one where each key is an alchemical symbol. I might need to hunt down art for that if its a known pathfinder thing. Hamid recognizes it but is the wrong school to understand this, both by training as a wizard and as sorcerer. The pipes are actually full of various fluids and powders. Yes Cel needs to see this. Thank you Helen! How much money has he spent on this? Where is he getting the money? I need that clipped! (tension chant evolved) Oh hell of a bet Hamid Sasha would be proud. The table is so proud of him. FTR I think that was Ben not Bryn saying "I stroke his cheek", because Bryn wouldn't risk Alex making that joke canon and using it to hurt Hamid. (naturally there was such no risk if Ben made that joke) Cable to the back of the neck, in clerical robes (crap I remember a “Shoin the healer painting”(?) but I thought he was an alchemist? Is this an assistant? Mini boss? Or is he multi classing), a party mask? Back to that theme. Its a prop corpse and its not the same room, I'm going to scream. Hamid don't you dare! Dollars to donuts its going to stand up and be some kind of creepy corpse robot Hamid waves Skraak in Speaker time, Shoin sounds worse maybe off script. ~~party time~~ Oh Cel has to lose most of the beast voice. Never mind! Smaller pencils acquired! I love this description even better the second time around. Oh bless Lydia for giving the fuller description. 55 HP! 14 Con! Comfort beard. Ooh Azu has a potion to make her even further stronger than Zolf. (iirc she had 1 point over him already) Yes he is in fact lawful evil and no he doesn't ever let them rest. Wise Cel/Lydia! I love Azu's auras! Aura of courage sounds especially useful. Yes yes Azu is good, brave, and resolute. Oh poor Zolf can't prep without either sleep or knowing for sure the fight is coming. Cel actually has 59 HP thank goodness! Another hall? Its circling the dome Hamid is in. It better be the same dome! I feel a bit like I'm betraying the party to enjoy the set design when the set is designed to kill them. They go as fast as they can while checking for traps. I refuse to parse that any other way. Oh poor Alex, we appreciate the set design even if the characters don't. Next door has a porthole to look through. Bless Helen/Azu for reminding them to check for traps. Cel can still disable it! It was a hand buzzer? Oh, to waste spells. Missed an in laid wood image of Shoin as a saint. This guy has too much ego and money. Anyone else thinking of that old joke where a guy has to become a monk to be allowed to find out what is behind a ridiculous number of doors and the punchline is you have to become a monk to find out what he saw? Ok it is a good thing its not the right door ~Hamid time~

Alex you troll! I refuse to concede we needed something to bleed to the stress levels. Shoin’s voice officially probably not a pre recording. I love Hamid! Hangs a handkerchief over the corpse's eyes. Poseidon? Couldn't be any god other than Zolf's ex? Ok doesn't seem in good enough shape to be a necrobot, but the organ might change that. Metal chairs sized for the party bolted to floor. I think Hamid is officially having fun not following Shoin's suggestion to sit at the table. Look at the leader in him collecting the paperwork Official connection between blue veins and the simulacrum! Also a spot for the power source Liliana was working on? Red string joke! ~break~ He Acid Blasts a speaker and it pisses Shoin off. Yeah "young man" was exact wrong thing to try. Were you trying to hit his daddy issues? I love one troll and 1 Kobold! Minion this! If Hamid speaks up? Shoin’s sense are fallible, might come up later Hamid is the best! Might die of being the best, but if he has to go its fingers up. Halfling, Dragon and troll, not a damn inch of leverage except what he gets Shoin to give him by refusing to follow orders. Pretending to attempt to comply is so much more frustrating (and better listening) than if he simply went "shan't". The party comes in! A swear! Not really another way to put it. The corpse explodes! Is Shoin the organ itself? A hug! A Cel & Hamid hug! Zolf backs Hamid's play, and joins in Shoin baiting. Hamid hugs Azu and Zolf! Finally a proper Zolf hug! Cel finally gets to check out the organ. It prioritizes looks over efficiency and isn't just a potion maker. Some of it goes over Cel's head. Cel blocks the outlet. Lydia still thinks slightly sideways like me, and I love it. The cylinders are near boiling. Hamid orders Skraak to safety! Cel tries to hug Skraak, but Skraak doesn't recognize them. Poor brave little guy tried to attack before they can explain. Cel takes chatty!Skraak well and they have another little bonding growl exchange. They get ready to skip Shoin's game and go to the next room. Bad sounds. Fist sized drops of luminous green liquid from the top of the room that don't act right. Zolf attempts open the door to the next room, Hamid sprints towards it. Thank goodness someone wants to live. Natural 1? But its initiative, so that shouldn't hurt too badly right? Right? No effect thank goodness Homing blobs? I am torn exactly between that being cool and not something I want the party to deal with. How many fire balls does Hamid have left? I think Cel is out of bombs, and if we remember nothing else from Kew its that swarms require explosions. Zolf! Its the big brother of the buzzer door and is locked to boot. Azu attacks the goo nearest Zolf. Helen is too wound up to remember how to roll. Bryn and Ben couch her through it in that RQ way. Cleave! More blobs and the existing ones move towards people. Magic missile! 4 pews! 2 at the nearest to him, 2 at the one nearest Cel. I'd say squishy solidarity but Cel is pretty tough for once. Cel shoots the nearest 3? Then flies up 10 feet up and towards Skraak. Zolf blesses the party! Fair Alex! Not everything has to have a mechanical effect. Azu attacks again. It explodes, if Azu hits it it will die. At least one person should be safe. Skraak! He froze! Worth a shot Ben You'll see? It tries to blob Skraak and isn't big enough to hurt them. Is Skraak safe from collateral damage? Hamid and Cel both protect Skraak. Hamid tells Skraak to use his spear, Skraak runs instead. Thank god he might not die trying to be a hero. Something drains into the pipe organ and the pipe organ attacks! OMG it is a 50ft tall brain soup drinking electric monster! Yes Ben! Perfect! Shoin Mr Ceiling-ed himself theory has player buy in! Bye! Also I will eat my hat if the drop blobs aren't able to merge into something more dangerous.

Answering questions under the read more yo!

I had to google this but I vaguely recall Law of Talos when it was active on deviantart. Never followed it but I feel like some of the entries were featured at some point. No idea what endzone is because when I googled it I just get football and the names of sports bars and/or adult clubs in my area lmao.

Thank you. I started it and immediately got stuck because I am Bad At Video Games™️ but I will have to pick it up again because it looks neat and I love bugs.

I’ve heard of it but never watched it. I can’t properly judge it because I’ve never seen it so this is all purely shallow speculation on my part but he reminds me too much of people I know in real life who lack the charm of being fictional cartoon characters so I’m like nope lmao.

I can’t remember if I answered this before or not so sorry if this is a repeat asdfghjkl. I haven’t yet but it’s on my eventual to watch list.

Ahh, probably not. I tried watching it but I couldn’t get into it. Which is odd because I love sci-fi and aliens a lot more than magic fantasies but I just find the show protagonists annoying and uninteresting. :/ No hate on the show itself but spin-off shows very rarely can live up to the hype of the series that they’re spinning off.

I appreciate your intent but that’s kind of worse. Only two people are allowed to call me babe and those people are my girlfriend and Beetlegeuse.

I don’t have a specific time when I open them, especially since I’m rarely open for long nowadays. I typically aim for Saturday or Sunday but the actual time ranges so I can give people in different time ranges a chance. Typically, I give a lot of warning before I open requests and include my time zone so people in other timezones can figure out when’s it will be for them.

Oh dope. I vaguely remember seeing the pilot for the show on YouTube several years back so maybe I’ll give it a look-see.

I’ll be real with you chief, you would think that I’d be in the know-how with fandom request blogs considering how long I’ve been doing this, but I don’t have a clue. I don’t really look for or interact with any because I keep myself busy doing my own thing. I can’t say for certain that any of the dragon ball blogs are still active, but check my #promo tag for other request blogs. I’n sure someone in there wrote for dragon ball super.

It’s such a long series it’s hard to say. Dragon Ball Super is free to watch on Crunchy Roll as long as you don’t mind ads, but I don’t know where you can watch Dragon Ball Z or the original Dragon Ball (which you don’t need to see to enjoy DBZ but it is fun and worth watching). Truth is I’ve never seven seen the whole series myself; just caught bits and pieces from when it used to play on Toonami back in the day. There might be some sites online where you can read the manga for free but I don’t typically use sites like that so I can’t offer anything specific.

Dragonball Xenoverse actually does give you a pretty good—if brief—overview of the show and its story arcs, though it’s not a perfect retelling. The plot is that someone I should messing with the timeline so you travel time, insert yourself into those significant battles, and try to bludgeon the timeline back to normal. It’s fun enough and I would reccomend it if you are interested in DBZ. The sequel Xenoverse 2 improved some of the game mechanics, but play the first one before you do because the plot in the first is more cohesive and the second one won’t make much sense without the context of the first game.

Stupid as this sounds, Team Four Star’s Abridged Series does a pretty decent job of summarizing the events of DBZ as well. It’s several years old so I can’t recall if the jokes hold up or might be offensive/upsetting, especially from the oldest episodes, but it’s more accessible than watching the actual series so 🤷‍♀️

"A Memory Long Repressed" One-Shot Aftermath

To avoid confusion with some of the details, this follows the events of my old 100 followers one-shot, "A Memory Long Repressed", which can be found here.

You could say this commemorates my 300th post on this blog or that I'm almost to 250 followers, but I'm not really treating it as either. I just realized there is more I could've done, plus I'm bored and writing one-shots feels like a good warm-up for bigger projects.

Lord Frieza, emperor of most of the known universe, was confined to the Briefs' dining room with two young boys looking over his shoulders.

"Ugh... This is boring..." The Briefs' boy, Trunks, whined from Frieza's right side.

"You know, you guys don't have to watch me." Frieza rolled his eyes as he continued his work. He worked on a teal illuminated screen, managing reports while he was away from his empire, at least until his ship was fixed.

"Yeah, but, don't you have any games or anything on here?" Trunks started to reach a finger out to tap the screen, causing the lizard emperor to shift it to the side.

"It doesn't have games! It's a datapad that I need for important-"

"Not even Tetris?"

"Or Mahjong?" Goten, at the left side, proposed.

"Or Minesweeper?"

As Frieza began to slowly lose his patience, Bulma called out from behind them. "Boys, please leave Frieza to do his work in peace!"

"But, Mom-"

"I mean it, Trunks. He could very well destroy you if he felt like it!"

To validate Bulma's point, Frieza showed a single finger aglow with the red energy of a Death Beam. "She means it~" He taunted with a smile.

The two half-Saiyan boys jolted. "Ahh... Let's get out of here, Goten." Trunks was in a cold sweat as he and Goten took off.

Bulma entered carrying baby Bulla in her arms. "Sorry about that, they're kind of antsy and I know you have a short fuse..."

"Ah, no matter. Those two are mere gnats."

"...and it probably didn't help that we found Goku eavesdropping on your story yesterday."

Frieza's eyes narrowed. "I'd prefer to forget that... There is only so much of that monkey I can tolerate."

At that moment, Vegeta, dressed in training sweats and carrying a mug of coffee, entered. "Okay, what did Kakarot do this time?"

"Oh, speak of monkeys and they shall appear..." The Icejin muttered under his breath, rolling his eyes.

"Well, good morning to you too, freeloader."

Frieza simply laughed at this. "How hypocritical of you, speaking of freeloading as if it wasn't how you managed to acquire your woman."

"Okay, that's it!" Vegeta growled, setting down his mug and preparing to take a swing at the lizard emperor.

"Vegeta, enough!" Bulma interrupted, clearly irritated. "You're going to make the baby cry and I'm not planning on replacing the dining room table again." Vegeta went red in the face, apologizing under his breath.

"Hmph... Serves you right~"

"That goes for you too, Frieza."

The emperor's eyes widened. "What?!"

"Look, I'm not saying you should be best friends or anything, but could you two lay off the fighting until Jaco gets here with the repair parts tomorrow?"

"Fine..." The two sighed.

"No promises, though~" Frieza added.

"Now, as I was saying... What the hell did Kakarot do?"

"Well, he kind of used his Instant Transmission to listen in on us..." Bulma explained. "...like a creep."

"So? What else is new?" Vegeta sarcastically replied.

"It was at somewhat of a bad time. Frieza was discussing somewhat of a sensitive subject. He was talking to me about his s-" Bulma soon realized and stopped herself short, so as not to be beheaded by an angry lizard.

"No need to cut yourself off, Bulma. Vegeta was part of my army long enough to know about Kuri." Frieza explained.

"Yeah, that little brat. That kid was a real pain the a-"

Vegeta was interrupted by a sudden firing Death Beam. He managed to duck beneath it, causing the red laser to instead shatter a stemmed glass on a nearby counter.

"Vegeta!"

"Why are you yelling at me? Frieza was the one who fired the..." He trailed off when he realized his wife was having none of it. "Never mind... Now, if we're done here, I'm heading out to train. Call me when lunch is ready."

The prince stormed off toward the nearby screen door, only to stop in his tracks. "Bulma?"

"What is it, Vegeta?"

"I don't recall hearing it was going to storm today."

"Then, you'd better not go out." Frieza replied as he returned to his datapad. "Who knows? You might get electrocuted, unless your spiky hair can double as a lightning rod."

Bulma took a brief glance out of a nearby window. Sure enough, the sky was dark, as if a storm was brewing. "So, he's found all seven..." She spoke quietly to herself, for she knew why the sky was gloomy.

"Wait, Kakarot has the Dragon Balls?"

"Damn it... I was planning on grabbing those while I was here." Frieza growled, rising from his seat. "When I get over there..."

"...he'll probably be done making his wishes. You shouldn't try to stop him at this point. What did you want to wish for anyways?"

"Probably immortality again." Vegeta scoffed.

"No, I'm past that. Eternal life would mean eternal pain."

"Then, what is your wish?"

"I-I don't have to tell you everything!" Frieza stammered.

"Well, whatever it is, it's probably better than whatever Kakarot wished for."

"Your wish... has been granted." Shenron rumbled in his low voice. As his eyes glowed red, a small being formed in front of Goku. He was reptilian and had a chestnut-shaped jewel for a skull. Copper-colored armor covered his dust-colored scales. He had a few areas of dusty-rose to make his colors pop out and his ruby red eyes were filled with fear.

"W-what...? W-where... am I?" He stuttered.

"Yo!" Goku attempted to casually greet the newly-revived Icejin. "I'm Go-"

He shuddered, immediately firing a bright red laser that barely grazed the Saiyan, burning a small pinhole through the shoulder of his gi.

"Woah, easy now!"

"How I supposed to take things easy? Papa warned me about cretins like you. Do you have a death wish?!" He snarled.

"Listen, I'm not here to hurt you, just hear me out. I know your father. My name is Goku, and I'm a Saiyan-"

"A Saiyan?" The Icejin gave him a shocked and perplexed look. "You don't look like any Saiyan I've ever seen. Then, again, Papa wiped out all but three of you before I was born. You kind of look like the frou-frou princey one, but..."

"Well, you see, the thing is..." Goku soon found himself being closely inspected.

"Hmm... If you're really a Saiyan like you say you are, then where's your tail? And more importantly, why are you not in your Force-regulated battle armor?!"

"Well, I'm not actually part of the Frieza Force, I've been living here on Earth. It's actually a pretty interesting-" Goku was quickly interrupted for the fourth time.

"So, you're a deserter, then?" The Icejin boy's eyes narrowed and his tail flicked uneasily. "Deserters aren't taken to very kindly. Regulations say that you are to be promptly apprehended and annihilated."

"Wait, annihilated?!" Goku gulped. "No wonder Frieza's soldiers are so loyal!"

"Don't worry, you won't be in pain for long. Soon, you will be swiftly disposed of~" His hand started to glow with jagged purple energy. "Now, hold still while I execute you!" He pounced and Goku barely dodged in time.

"Woah, Kuriza sure does take after his father! Not in the way I hoped though!"

Kuriza continued to swing his energy sword in a frenzied manner, lightly grazing Goku. The Saiyan wasn't prepared for his high speed. As he dodged more and more blows, he finally caught sight of his way out of this situation. He quickly latched onto Kuriza's dust rose tail. The energy sword fizzled out.

The young Icejin had a paralyzed look on his face and he looked like he was about to cry. He let out a small nervous squeaking, like air being slowly let out of a latex balloon. After freeing himself from Goku's grip, he sprung away in absolute panic. "Ah! Gross, gross, gross!"

"Are you okay?"

"Of course I'm not okay! Papa told me that Saiyans are riddled with fleas and vermin! How dare you touch me, Prince Kuriza, with your grimy paws!"

"Sorry, Kuriza. I thought I was pretty well-groomed."

"That's Prince Kuriza to you, you walking pest farm! Is there even enough disinfectant in the galaxy to-"

Finally, Goku wasn't the one to be interrupted.

"Hey, Kuriza, don't sweat it. I'm perfectly clean. Besides, you should probably be getting back to your dad soon."

The young Icejin's eyes lit up. "You know where he is? Take me to him now, Saiyan! I command you!"

"Well, Bulma said he would be heading back tomorrow and she probably doesn't want to host anyone else... So..." Goku thought for a moment. "Hey, how about we take you back tomorrow as a last minute surprise?"

Kuriza's eyes narrowed. "Are you refusing me?! I want to go home now, you filthy simian! I'll have you know that I am above you!"

"Well, you're almost above my kneecap."

"I didn't mean it that way, idiot!"

"Sorry, sorry. But, I can take you to my home, just until tomorrow."

"Uhh... I'm not so sure if I could handle being that close to whatever's infecting you..."

"It's alright, Chi-Chi and I shower fairly regularly and we make sure to check for ticks." Goku assured the Icejin.

"Pardon my asking, but what's a 'tick'?"

"Oh, it's a small little bug in the woods that latches to your skin and..." The Saiyan stopped when he saw Kuriza's expression grow more distressed and a green tint forming. "Uhh, let's leave it at that. Come on," He held out his hand and placed two fingers to his forehead. "Let's-" He was soon cut off by a rumbling throat clearing.

"Ahem!" Shenron grumbled. "You still have two more wishes and I can't hang around here all day."

"Oh! Sorry 'bout that Shenron!" Goku embarrassedly scratched the back of his head. "Hehe~"

The next day, Frieza stood watching Jaco at work repairing his ship. Intimidated by the Icejin's piercing glare, the Galactic Patrolman was nervously sweating and working at a fast rate, hopefully to get the tyrant to leave faster.

"What's the rush, Patrolman? I'll have you know I won't be paying you if you mess anything up."

"You didn't say you were going to be paying me in the first place!" The Patrolman protested.

"Exactly."

Jaco sighed as he began slowly continuing, only to have his work commented on again. "Could you go any faster? I do have a schedule to keep and I'd like to return to my empire sometime this century, if that's not too much of a challenge for a galactic boot-polisher such as yourself."

"Jeez, what do you want from me?!"

The Patrolman shuddered immediately after hearing what he had just said, half expecting to feel the heat of a Death Beam at his neck. "Results." Frieza simply answered. "That's all I ask of you."

The tension of the moment was broken by Bulma calling out from outside of the ship. "Frieza! Goku's here!"

The Icejin's eyes narrowed. "What does the monkey want now? If he's trying to pry more secrets out of me, he won't be getting any."

"He says he has something for you."

The tyrant sighed. "Fine... It'd better be a damned apology...” He exited his ship, arms folded and patience limited. Sure enough, Goku was outside, holding a bottle with one hand and holding something behind his back with the other. His characteristic smile was almost sickening. “I was hoping I wouldn’t have to see your face again for the rest of my stay on Earth... yet here we are.”

“Afternoon, Frieza! Sorry that I got your visit off to a rough start a few days ago.”

“And you’re giving it a rough ending too.”

“Listen, I’m sorry I eavesdropped on you back there.” He held up the bottle in his one hand. “Thought I might give you this to show there’s no hard feelings.”

Frieza analyzed the container quizzically. “Where did you get fine wine from Arcos of all places on such short notice?”

“Umm, I kind of used the Dragon Balls to get you that. Couldn’t think of any other wishes.” Goku chuckled a little.

“You what?!” Bulma and Frieza both looked at Goku in shock.

“You used a wish on the one of the most powerful beings alive for a single bottle of alcohol?” Frieza’s tail flicked uneasily. “That wish could’ve made me taller!”

“Wait,” Bulma snickered. “That was going be your wish?”

The emperor glared at the human. “Remember that I could kill you if I felt like it.” Bulma went silent.

“I appreciate the gesture,” The Icejin took the wine from Goku. “Even though I do have plenty of this already. I don’t appreciate how you obtained it though.”

Suddenly, from behind Goku, a small and frustrated voice spoke. “Okay, you gave him the stuff, can I please come out now?” The voice whined. Goku quickly elbowed the being behind him, causing it to yelp in displeasure.

“Umm, what was that?” Frieza’s eyes narrowed in suspicion.

“Oh, that was probably just my stomach! It growls so loud it almost sounds like a person talking! Hehe~” Goku nervously lied.

“Well, if you have no further interruptions... That Galactic Patrolman should be almost finished up if he has any sense of time, so I must be going-” As Frieza turned to reenter his ship, Goku called out to him.

“Wait!”

The Icejin turned back around. “What more do you want?”

“Umm, there’s a part two to your present.”

“Oh~” Frieza smiled deviously and flirtatiously at the same time. “Are you trying to flatter me, dear Goku? May I remind you, you are a married man. Also, you’re not exactly my type-”

He suddenly trailed off as Goku led a familiar Icejin figure out from behind him. His eyes went wide. The bottle he was holding dropped from his hand, the Dragon Ball wish now shattered and spilled all over the below asphalt. Frieza stammered, looking for the right words to say in this situation.

But, how was he supposed to think of words to say when his son...

His many years dead son...

Stood alive in front of his eyes.

“I-I d-don’t know how to respond...” No one had ever heard Frieza’s voice falter this much- and whoever did was probably killed. An unexpected stream of tears flowed down his face, as if a large emotional reservoir had suddenly given way under pressure. “G-Goku, I-I don’t think this is an appropriate apology gift for eavesdropping, I-I could’ve just taken the-”

“Shh-shh, hey, it’s fine. It just felt like the right thing to do. Finding the Dragon Balls for this kind of stuff is practically no sweat anymore. It felt worth doing for a friend.”

“We’re not really friends, though-” Frieza tried to protest only to be cut off by a catch in his throat.

“Never mind that,” Goku picked up Kuriza, despite his squeamish resistance, and approached Frieza, setting him on the older Icejin’s shoulder. “Just... enjoy this...”

“Kuri…” Frieza started frantically speaking under his breath. “I should have taken you with me... I shouldn’t have left you in the ship... I shouldn’t have left you with Dodoria... I should’ve known better.”

“Papa,” Kuriza whimpered. “It was cold and painful and sad. I-I don’t want to be cold and sad anymore...”

Goku and Bulma simply observed the embrace until Frieza noticed. “What are you still doing here?” His eyes narrowed as he turned around and reentered the ship without another word to the two.

Kuriza, who was still looking over his father’s shoulder, smiled and said, “He means to say ‘thank you’, he isn’t good with that sort of thing.”

And that was the last heard from the two Icejins during their time on Earth.

“Soo...” Bulma asked of Goku. “What else did you wish for with the Dragon Balls?”

“Well, other than Kuriza and the wine, I decided to wish for some Zeni. It’ll make Chi-Chi happy so she’ll let me take off work to train with King Kai-” He suddenly trailed off as he realized.

“Yeah, did you remember to actually revive him this time?”

Goku nervously laughed. “Haha, whoops! Guess I forgot again”

“Damn it, Goku!!” King Kai’s furious screaming rang through Goku’s mind.

Not too long after Frieza’s ship was ready to fly again, he had returned to his empire, and, to everyone’s surprise, he wasn't irritable and seemed to be in higher spirits. More importantly, he was followed by an unusual character that few of the soldiers knew.

In the soldiers’ common area, one of the new female recruits was speaking with an older veteran.

“So, Lemo, seems Lord Frieza’s in a better mood than usual!” She stretched her slim body in her chair. “Good news for us!”

“You say that as if I hadn’t noticed, Cheelai.”

“Yeah, but what’s with it with that little guy that’s almost always behind him? I think he’s a new recruit or some pet Frieza picked up on Earth. But, he’s been walking around here like he owns the place. I think it’s kind of crazy if you ask me-” Cheelai noticed Lemo looking at another nearby table and tensing up. “What’s wrong, Lemo? Why so stiff?”

Kuriza was sitting on top of the empty table.

“Cheelai, show him some respect.”

“What, why? He’s just some kid!”

Lemo elbowed Cheelai, while still remaining mostly stiff. She sighed and positioned herself at attention.

“Evening, subordinates. I’ve been here for such a short time and you already know who’s the boss!” The Icejin started laughing a joyful laugh that was strikingly similar to Frieza’s, but more youthful and higher-pitched.

“He’s like a pint-sized Lord Frieza!” Cheelai commented.

Suddenly, as if cued, Frieza’s panicked voice could be heard through the halls. “Where is he? Where is he?!” Suddenly, the door to the common room opened and a worried Frieza suddenly became at ease. “Ah, there you are, son...”

“That’s Frieza’s son?!” Cheelai looked alarmed, but Lemo was not the least bit surprised at this fact.

Frieza picked up Kuriza from off of the table. “Kuri, you should know better. You’re supposed to tell Berryblue where you’re going. You had me worried sick.” He suddenly turned to Cheelai and Lemo. “I see you’ve already been acquainted.”

“Uhh, of course, Lord Frieza.” Cheelai composed herself.

“Alright, Kuriza, you’ve had your fun with the low-class soldiers, but it’s getting late now. You should be heading to bed.”

“Oh, we won’t hold you up too long.” Lemo apologized. “Have a nice evening, Lord Frieza.”

“And you too, young Kuriza.”

“That’s Prince Kuriza to you~” The young Icejin winked as the two left the room.

My Toy Collection

Hello, welcome to a very long, image-heavy post about me showing off some of the toys I’ve acquired over the years.

(Forgive me if the images are too big D:)

So, let’s begin with my Monsuno toys :)

(For the uninitiated, Monsuno was a cartoon that aired back in 2012-13, following this 13 year old boy as he tried to find his missing dad. Said dad was a researcher working on secret government experiments that created monsters from green glowing alien essence (the titular Monsunos). It’s close to my heart)

This is Rouge, my fake fusion Shadowhornet toy (with their core that they pop out of when it’s struck). They are my icon for this blog. I know this is a fake because the wings are completely red (when they should have some black on them).

And this is Meteorit, my Backslash toy. He’s real and cost me close to $60 AUD to import from Romania. His name is meteorite in Romanian (Monsunos are associated with some mineral and Backslash’s mineral, officially, is meteorite).

That blue thing in the background is a worm on the string btw

The Monsunos also come with cards. You’re meant to battle with them, activating abilities through cards I think (I’ve never played it). These are ones that came with Meteorit:

Pretty neat huh? Every Monsuno comes with some ‘character’ card (left) that shows the creature’s strength, with a small description. The others are attacks the Monsuno can do. In the show, Cursed Spiral is so cool to watch (midair corkscrew from Meteor Mutt)

Anyway, this is the card that came with Rouge:

You may notice that the beast on the back of the card looks nothing like Rouge. That’s because the creature on the back is Backslash 2.0, a fusion Monsuno that appeared only in the Season 1 finale of the show. It is a mix of two Monsunos: Backslash and Shadowhornet. If you have the two fusion versions of the Monsuno toys you can connect them together to create the fusion.

Backslash 2.0 is my favourite Monsuno. It’s a combination of two things I really like: Meteor Mutt and Bat-winged Centipede

Now, onto my Yugioh cards (another show with a tie-in toy line)

I used to have a full deck and play against my sister. This is all I have left now unfortunately. That Dark Magician card isn’t even the one I had originally. A friend gave to me after I told him I lost mine. It still is my favourite card. Greaceful Dice is a close second

I loved the TV show when I was younger and grew up with it. I still enjoy seeing fanworks related to it today

Speaking of my childhood, let me show you my Bakugan

(Bakugan is yet another cartoon that had it’s own toy line. It aired between 2007-2008 (wow!) and followed this group of kids who find these mysterious balls and cards falling from the sky and make a game based on it. They find out that these balls are actually aliens from another dimension who reveal their true forms during battle. If memory serves me correctly (it’s been a while), the two dimensions are colliding and must be saved (that or the Bakugan dimension was crumbling for some reason). I absolutely adored this show when I was younger!)

They toys are magnetic and pop from their balls when they land on a magnetic card. I have several, some from the second wave of toys, some fake and one from the first wave. (As an aside, the colours indicate the Bakugan’s element, there’s 6 in total)

These are the bootleg Bakugan. On the left is a raven man who’s missing his legs. The right is an enthusiastic frog who doesn’t like to stay in their ball. I like to think the frog carries the raven on their back, traveling as a team

This one’s a warrior, a knight (if memory serves me right). This is a second wave Bakugan, having a chasm on its back that allows you to attack some weaponry

These are two of my dragons. On the left is a prism dragon (I always thought it was another raven person). On the right is Terra, a dragon from the first wave. I bought Terra because my favourite character from the show was Drago, a fire version of Terra (I sincerely apologise to the Bakugan nerds who find this post. I can’t remember the element names D:)

Finally, we have two more second wave Bakugan. The one on the left is a dragon dude. The right is a winged, long-haired sword wielder (they’re also my strongest Bakugan).

Now, for the cards. These are the weird ones I got with the bootlegs:

They’re all magnetic. These are the real ones:

The River Valley card is the one I got with Terra. The creature on it, I remember, appeared late in the series (of the first season) and it was a water/air elemental. It was shocking to the protagonists because Bakugan only have one element associated with them. I think all the creatures that you see appear in the show at some point.

There are also non-magnetic cards that you activate during battle

Now, for something more well known: Pokemon

To say I have a few cards would be an understatement

Majority of them are fake. I won’t show them all, just some highlights

Two of these look cool while one is well loved :)

These ones have cute artwork. The Driftloon one looks like it’d fit into a children’s book. The bottom two are shiny, for some reason

When you’re right half of the time

I like Gen 4, clearly. These some of my legendaries. Note the two Dialga X cards that aren’t identical

With weird energies. That Palkia is actually one of my favourite Pokemon cards (I like Cyrus and I have Pokemon Pearl)

Now, these two cards I got from a friend while on the school bus. I think these are the only real Pokemon cards I have. Maybe. I don’t know. Either way, they look cool!

This card below is something I found in the sorting room of the op shop I volunteer at. It’s holographic (sorry for the gif quality :/)

This is the back of it. Te description says:

This terrifying Pokemon may be a Bug-type, but it seems to have as much in common with the dinosaurs.

Its razor-edged wings make its Slash technique a killer. Add to that ninjalike speed and sharpness and the enemy is down for the count! This is one Pokemon to avoid if you’re a beginning trainer.

To think, I’m taller than it

Moving on, we have (left to right) GL the Arceus, an Oshawatt dangler I got from a cheap capsule dispenser and Phoebs the Manaphy. GL and Phoebs were gifts :)

This is a Meowth next to a tardigrade (water bear, moss piglet). The Meowth was originally my sister’s. She gave it to me when she moved out. The tardigrade I got from Scienceworks (which is what I can only describe as an interactive science museum). Water bears are a microscopic organism that inhabits moss. They can roll up into a ball (called a tun) and can survive extremes that would otherwise kill (extreme colds, pressures and even the vacuum of space). But, they can’t stay rolled up forever.

On the subject of soft toys, I have some Beanie Kids

Left to right, you have T-Bone the dog, Munchies the Guniea Pig, Cecilia the Snake and Blueberry the not furry. T-Bone, Munchies and Blueberry I got at the same time. Meanwhile, I found Cecilia at the op shop and I had to have her (she’s a naga bear). They’re all very fluffy and cute :3

Now, to the toys I’ve had the longest: the Transformers

Not to sound like a boomer, but back in my day (*shakes cane in air*), Transformers had multiple steps to transform, not single fluid movements that you find in current toys. I even remember that they came with step-by-step instructions.

Left to right, you have Divebomb (local eagle screaming at ground), Demolisher (the reason I know that word) and Cruellock (my first and favourite). These are part of the Energon series of Transformers, which allowed you to attach a stud to some part of them (Demolisher is the one wearing it)

This is them transformed. Divebomb is the most fiddly to work with because those hands keep falling off (and you expect him to hold his boomerang?) Co-Mod: Hey, at least you’re not obsessed enough to try running the blog yourself. Sometimes I wonder if I spend too much time talking and writing about Ace Attorney. It’s a beautiful series, but there’s still real life to think about every now and then.

I agree that that Godot/Jake parallel is shaky at best. For one thing, Jake’s a lot more friendly overall, and for another, he didn’t lose a lover like Godot did (unless there was something between him and Lana we don’t know about). One big comparison I can see is that they both lost someone close to them and made some irrational decisions as a result, but I sure wouldn’t have picked up on that comparison on my own.

And if I could rewrite one thing about Ace Attorney...I’d add in a beach ball after Mia’s murder.

Co-Mod: I first discovered the Ace Attorney series when I read Matthew Taranto’s miniseries Turnabout Kirby in his webcomic Brawl in the Family. This eventually made me curious enough to check out the games, so I watched some playthroughs of the first game and before long, I started falling in love with the characters, the game’s unique mechanics, and the series as a whole.

I don’t remember many details about how I found this blog (I remember that it started with a Google search), but I’m sure glad I did. I was thrilled to see that the Mod (the only moderator at the time) made an effort to respond to every letter that was sent to it, and even more thrilled when he finally answered one from me. It’s quite a treat to be able to talk to characters in a series like this one, even if it’s actually a fellow fan pretending to be them.

I started playing one fan case for a short while, but never made the time to finish it up. I’ll be sure to share my thoughts I have about any that I manage to make it all the way through when I get around to playing them.

Mod Kristoph: I was first introduced to Ace Attorney through the fan made video series Turnabout Storm, a crossover between Ace Attorney and My Little Pony. (Yeah, I’m a brony. Come at me.) I just gradually got interested in the series from there.

I developed a Sheikah Rune Translator with AWS Rekognition (Part 2)

Last time ~~on Dragon Ball Z~~ in this blog I was working on a machine learning model to recognize the Sheikah alphabet glyphs. After AWS rekognition fixed their Server Side Exceptions, I was able to successfully train a model. Takes around 30 minutes or so. Then I started the model so it ran:

My model doesn't have very precise results yet. It is a bit of a meme at this point, but machine learning models improve with the more data you feed them. I reached an F1 score of 0.3 and I managed to get it up to 0.54 by pulling more random data and labelling it. If I continue to crunch in labels from random data (I'm thinking, probably taking a shitload of screenshots of the actual game and labelling them), I will eventually get a better model.

This was my initial result:

I realized the following things:

It's more important to have training data than test data, and that training data labelled with interstitial bounding boxes rather than single-image bounding box seems to make the model smarter, faster.

When labelling data, prefer data without noise. If your input data has other characters, English alphabet letters, textures, background pictures, panoramas, etc., it will trip the model very badly and it leads to false positives. You will notice that from the fact that somehow the model would pick up a literal "X" in a test image as an actual sheikah glyph, whereas this should not happen.

Rekognition's UX is pretty horrible (sorry guys!). It is not possible to intuitively evaluate images on the UI. It's a lot better to script it. They provide python snippets (with harcoded paths to Mac, instead of Ubuntu or Windows, fonts and bounding box fonts and thicknesses which aren't responsive to the resolution of the output image) which you have to tinker with to make it work, which is ok, but for $4 USD (!) per inference hour and $1 per training hour, this is pretty bad. Let's hope that my next AWS bill isn't horrible, and that the Rekognition team hires a few UX engineers (WOOPS I FORGOT TO STOP THE MODEL AGAIN).

For some reason I get better results changing the min confidence parameter from 5 to 10 (still with an F1 ~0.5). If I go outside that range, no labels are ever detected. If I go below, there's false positives and other random shit.

So, this is part 2: to analyze the image we can poetry init analyze and you can use this pyproject.toml:

By the way fuck you tumblr markdown parser, you treat everything inside angle brackets as an html tag and I remember that bug existing since forever ago. I can't type the poetry default for authors in here, because it will mess up my post, and if I try to update the post after the fact, it will eat my code.

But whatever, I guess this is what happens when you use tumblr as a tech blog, podcast CMS and personal site at the same time.

This code will talk to AWS APIs on us-west-2 so you need AWS credentials to be populated. You can get tokens using AWS IAM, and to set them up you can use aws configure after installing the aws CLI sudo apt install aws or exporting them as ENV variables.

The images to be evaluated must live in an S3 bucket. You can modify the variables in main() to point this script to your bucket and image. I could make a wrapper and use CLI parameters but I'm lazy.

I had problems with Pillow's image.show() because wsl has no notion of a $DISPLAY so you need to export DISPLAY=:0. Python's Pillow depends on imagemagick (why?) so you also have to sudo apt install imagemagick. You need an X-Window server running on Windows too, from an administrator cmd install it with chocolatey: choco install vcxsrv then start the server at C:\Program Files\VcXsrv\xlaunch.exe

And you should see the results of your evaluation if all goes well when you run poetry run python analyze.py. To be continued? (I don't have much time to continue working on this for now...)

Just a belated Update.

Hey guys...that porbably still follows me or not....it’s been a while.

Yes, i’m on Hiatus.

Granted it is for reasons that im sad to say is personal and need to work out. I wanna thank to those that RP with me and put up with me bugging them, i felt like i’m alittle bit of hasttle, if not, then thank you.

The one thing that kinda drove me away from this blog is sadly, my muse for doing Dragon Ball rps. It’s...pretty dead. Its sad but i don’t have the flow to use my characters anymore. I’ve been focusing on my Mental and Physical health more, along with Work and Games i’ve been in that my mood just sorta droped. Im sorry.

The other has been two members of the community left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. Just seeing the drama going on and 5kye (only namer drop) littraly drove someone off of tumblr and the community was something that i hate. She did alot of shit that im like “Okay...i’ll give a chance” and it’s gone. The other one was just alittle...off and i didn’t like to interact. He honestly scares me and i just did my best to ignore him.

Their was a debate in my mind to delete this blog but i decided against it. If i do decied to come back, i’ll probably do a heavy reconstruction of it to flesh out the characters more and make it a bit easier to understand. But untill then...eh.

I once again apologize for such a late update, but thats kinda the rot im in now. To those that I RP, i thank you from the bottom of my heart. The others, im sorry we never got the chance.
