I normally just leave opinions as 'if we disagree we disagree' but I found your post comparing the golden core transfer and consent in remarkably bad taste. I don't care how passionate you are about this fictional book comparing the real fucking trauma rape victims have gone through the shit we have experienced to fictional xianxia surgery is so so disrespectful rape victims are more important then a fucking fictional consent argument. Thanks.
i had to go back and search for what the fuck you’re talking about, bc initially i thought you were talking about this post and i was like ??? and then i realized you probably meant the initial tags on this other post (which…there’s a reason it wasn’t in the actual post, which was a salt/rant post to begin with.)
sorry you found my off the cuff rant in response to some of the abhorrent things people have said about consent while trying to argue that wwx was 100% in the right (see the aforementioned posts), and my comparison of a horrific violation of consent, agency, and bodily autonomy to *checks notes* a different but also horrific violation of consent, agency, and bodily autonomy to be in poor taste but like. not actually.
bc i personally find it to be in poor taste when a fictional character lies to someone whose agency and bodily autonomy was violated and was traumatized by the experience in order to get them to “agree” to another violation of agency and bodily autonomy (but it’s fictional, so whatever.)
but i find it in even poorer taste for real life people to claim that actually that character did nothing wrong; consent was given and there was no violation. or if there was a violation, it’s his own fault, and he should have known better.
bc it’s true that fictional xianxia surgery doesn’t exist, but consent, agency, and bodily autonomy DO, and if real people have used their real world judgement to conclude that THIS situation was consensual—especially if they bend over backwards, unironically using the same arguments used to discredit survivors of rape to argue as such—that’s a red flag.

pondering on a meta diving into Gale's abstract brand of selflessness (willingness to go away to a corner of the world to die so that none of the faceless masses will be harmed by his mistake) vs his personal selfishness (willingness to stick by tav despite being repulsed by tiefling camp murder + general vocal approval or interest in accumulating more power) and Gale's status as someone who is good aligned but generally ineffectual at enforcing actual good (the way that wyll or karlach will actually leave the party) which is fascinating for a fairly good-aligned person. just love when the Good Guy is actually kind of fucking weird. edit: tumblr cut off my tags Okay. and how all of this ties back in an interesting way to his relationship and power imbalance with mystra. he was wronged, deeply, but he also desires still that ... status / closeness to divinity in some way, by her influence. Gale thinks that he would be a better god simply by virtue of his mortality but he cannot escape the appeal of holding himself apart from others and being more than, greater than, something closer to godliness and thus inherently removed from mortal values and standards of right and wrong, which the gods themselves don't adhere to in the same way.

gentle reminder that unless your post is relevant to a particular character/ship/duo you really shouldn’t tag them on your post, especially if it’s just a post where you’re complaining about something or asking an inane, unrelated question

The thing about Jay that I will never not find funny is how unwilling he is to admit he did something wrong. Like when he breaks into Alex’s house and is like “hey I didn’t do anything here I’m innocent” as if he didn’t just ya know break into Alex’s house. Or when him and Tim are talking about Jay leaking his medical record and Jay says something along the lines of “hey its not my fault that some guy left them in the tunnel for me to find” Like he just stumbled across them, then tripped and whoops his hand slipped now Tim’s medical records are on Youtube.
(I’m aware in the first one he was referring to The Operator dropping in to say hi, but just the fact that he was saying he didn’t do anything while breaking and entering was kinda funny)

"Be brave! Be bold! Be yourself! Show your true self!"
Okay but you need to know that my "true self" and my "employed self" are not necessarily compatible!!!!

I think one of the reasons I've never really gelled with the "cannibalism as a metaphor/symbol of love" in stories is mainly due to the fact that in Te Ao Māori, consuming another person (especially any part of their head) is like the greatest disrespect you could ever subject them to, as such I can only really see it as a symbol of being someone's biggest hater

the fiery passion i hate booktok's general trends with is unimaginable as is my desire to stay away as much as possible.
stupid haha dbd clips? yeah sure here for it. observational comedy and standup bits? lovely let's see what you're about to spill. social commentary and educational videos? fuck yes we're balling.
but the second, THE MOMENT i understand it's a book review, i BACK THE FUCK UP (click "not interested"). it's perplexing to see what utter shit all these self-proclaimed avid readers are into: characters reduced to one or two tropes, plots that are rather convoluted as hell for the sake of it or simply settings for characters to have sex in, no ideas put into the text, perpetuating harmful stereotypes, etc. and a book CAN be a wonderful read while still having one such drawback, but not all of them, jesus fucking christ.
and when i say "fanfiction is better", it's not only due to all the finger-licking good fanworks that have become a better version of the original or are in and of themselves greater books than half your local bookstore, no. "bad" fanfiction is also better than most booktok books! at the very fucking least you already know the characters and their supposed dynamics AND that wonky ass serial killer or coffee shop au is goddamn FREE! the only payment fic writers get to get is INTERACTION - comments, kudos/likes, recommendations (please do that. do comment, do give a kudos, do recommend stuff you enjoy to your friend/mutuals/whatever). that's it. they're not effectively changing the publishing industry to prioritise shitty smut books to make a quick buck instead of giving a shot to works with arguably more literary value.
so, no. fuck booktok, all my homies hate booktok.
