justice for sam

If the spnepisodebracket craze has shown us anything, it's that the supernatural fanbase is extremely divided, with the lowly sam stan seemingly at the bottom of the pile. sam is always last in polls, so this is a bracket for the 10% or so who always votes for him. because yeah, there's 327 episodes of Supernatural, but how many are popular because of a dean or destiel moment? how many good episodes are drowned out because they focus on sam?

i've chosen, with some crowdsourced peer review (special thanks to @spneveryseason, @suncaptor, and @ambersock!) 125 episodes that are Sam Relevant. Some are extremely sam-centric, some just have a shot where sam looks like he's being crucified that gives me brain worms -- i tried to be generous about it to keep a relatively even seasons distribution! matchups will be random and polls will last 24 hours each. in the tradition of @spnepisodebracket (who this is obviously inspired by and would not be possible without!) i'll try to rb a gifset for every episode in the poll!

a final note: no this is not that serious but the criteria for voting here should be how good the episode is as a SAM episode, not as anything else, so please vote accordingly! i am making this for people who actually enjoy sam and if that is not you, then this is not the poll for you!

Buck & Eddie

Unpopular Opinion

It's season 7 but it appears the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Disclaimer: These are my opinions and they're based on my observations and interpretations of the BTS pics, interviews and promos that have been released in advance of the upcoming episodes.

Back to the regularly scheduled program...

Eddie

It appears my favorite character Eddie Diaz is about to be sidelined yet again and he won't have a beneficial or substantive storyline 🤔🧐 all his own, possibly for the remainder of season 7. As usual, he'll be there to support Buck but is there anything else for Eddie? Can he please have a storyline that's solely about him and Chris and it not be one that's tied to giggly, creepy and smiling Marisol? He hasn't had one since season 3 and it's been four years therefore, it's time (I'm not including the shooting because the audience didn't see his recovery nor am I including his PTSD arc because it wasn't given the time it deserved and after 5x14 he wasn't shown going to therapy anymore so there's that. Furthermore, he wasn't even shown preparing to go back to the 118, he just slid down the fireman's pole in 5x18 and it wasn't revisited). Can Eddie and Chris FINALLY have an open and honest conversation about Shannon? Eddie views her through a pair of rose colored glasses because he thinks it's his fault but there were two people in their relationship so he shouldn't shoulder all the blame especially when she left and was gone for almost 2 years without a call to her son. A conversation between just the two of them is needed because Chris is older now and he read the letter she wrote in 7x1. The audience didn't see him ask Eddie any questions about it and we didn't see how he's feeling now that he knows she may not have ever returned if she hadn't died.

Eddie and Chris have the largest biological family of all the mains (not including Bobby because other than his deceased wife and two children, the audience hasn't been introduced to them... like ever) but for some reason they moved Eddie’s abuela back to El Paso even though his aunt has that big house that she lives in by herself. Also, the audience never gets to see Eddie’s sisters and with all the attention that's going to be given to Tommy in the upcoming episodes, it's likely the audience might not get to see them this time either. Eddie has a deep and interesting background but the show barely touches the surface of it. Can Eddie please be given a worthy storyline all on his own? He deserves it!

Buck

So... is the audience supposed to just forget everything that happened to Buck in season 6? Apparently, so because based on OS's multiple interviews, Buck’s not dwelling on the broken relationship with his parents (they're still $hitty, their rushed and trifiling redemption arc sucked and it was undeserved. I don't trust them but Buck does so, whatever), there hasn't been any more mentions of Connor's and Kameron's baby (Full Disclosure: I still don't believe their baby is biologically his but it's probably been forgotten or retconned like everything else including Buck’s age), does he or does he not still want to be captain? He's not in therapy and he may or may not go back but he's moved on from his death, so I guess there's no trauma resulting from it. How does he feel about his job now because... HE DIED while he was doing it in 6x10 but the audience didn't see him process it even though every other character processed their own individual traumas.

Eddie used a baseball bat to destroy his bedroom in 5x13, Maddie walked into the ocean in 5x12, Hen went to therapy after 3x8, Bobby broke his sobriety in 1x4, Athena broke down in season 5 after she killed Jeffrey and Chimney took Jee-Yun with him to find Maddie in 5x4 and they were gone for 6 months. They all went to therapy at some point but it appears Buck’s immune to the trauma he's experienced so there's that.

7x4 airs tomorrow and I'm still not excited about it. After the way 6x18 ended, I hoped things would be different but maybe my expectations were too high. I don't think so because IMO, the upcoming episodes seem to be repetitive and basically a wash, rinse, repeat of the past. Maybe it will be different... but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Will the rest of season 7 be different for Buck and Eddie or is the focus still going to be solely on Buck? Who knows except the showrunner, writers, producers, actors and actresses since they are the only ones who know the answer to that question.

Thirteen’s trial results are already compromised, just from the fact that I know. As long as she’s wasting her time, why not give her something that might actually help her? Valid point, except for the fact that it’s a load of crap.

5x13: The Reveal

“Hey,” Lucy said, whisking through Nolan's front door.

“Lucy. Sure, why not? Come on in,” Nolan replied with a flip of his hand.

“Oh, you look surprised.” Lucy set her duffle bag down in front of an empty chair in the living room. “Wait, weren't you on the group text?”

“No, no. I turn off my phone when –” Nolan paused when Bailey shot him a look. “Nevermind. Can I get you a drink?”

“Tequila. Double,” Lucy said with a sigh.

Everyone stared at her.

“I need it,” Lucy said with an uncomfortable laugh. “We have a big problem.”

“What’s going on?” Wesley asked.

“Tim is miserable in his new role and he won’t admit it,” Lucy explained. “We need to figure out what chess moves to make in order to get him into a better job.”

“Wait. Tim isn’t a sergeant anymore?” James asked. “When did that happen?”

“No, he’s still a sergeant,” Nyla interjected and then smirked. “He took a new job for reasons neither he nor Lucy will say out loud.”

“Yeah.” Angela nudged Lucy with her elbow and handed her the drink Nolan had poured. “Why, exactly, is Timothy Bradford the Court Liaison Sergeant again?”

“Grey said it was because of the officer no-show rates getting too high. He needed Tim to get that under control,” Nolan interjected, completely oblivious. He dried his hand with a towel and tossed it on the counter. “Wes, let me show you where the charging cable is.”

“Thanks,” Wesley said and followed Nolan down the hall, but not before throwing a sly look at his wife.

“I’m going to lay Leah down,” James said, motioning at his baby girl who was struggling to keep her eyes open.

“Thank you,” Nyla smiled. James kissed her on the cheek and took Leah out of her arms.

“You can use the first room on the right,” Bailey told him, pointing in that direction.

“Is Nolan right, Lucy?” Angela egged on.

“Mm-hmm,” Lucy hummed. She took a big gulp from her drink before the burn reminded her it was tequila on ice. She couched into her elbow.

“Come on, ladies,” Bailey said with a laugh. She walked over and swung her arm around Lucy’s shoulders and guided her toward the living room. “They’ll tell us when they’re ready.”

“Right,” Angela agreed before playfully narrowing her gaze on Lucy. “Even if it hurts our feelings more every day they don’t.”

“Angela–” Lucy started.

“No, no.” Angela held up her hands. “Just know that I’m not telling you my secret until you tell me yours.”

Lucy ignored the comment and unzipped the bag at her feet. She unpacked sticky notes and markers onto the coffee table and then wrote the names of different departments on separate notes: Motors, SWAT, Robbery, Metro, Vice, IA, Air Support, and Homicide. Nyla took a stack of stickies and began to write the names of sergeants and other high-level officers on each sheet.

“Is it really even a secret at this point?” Lucy finally asked, looking between the women.

“What do you mean, ‘at this point’?” Nyla asked with a laugh and Angela joined in. “You two literally went from being attached at the hip, to not being able to be in the same room together, to being attached at the hip.”

“That doesn’t mean…” Lucy shook her head.

She wrote ‘Retired’ on one more sticky note and then arranged them all on Nolan’s living room window. Nyla and Angela joined her and sorted the cops under each of their respective departments.

“You didn’t even see Tim lie to my face about not having feelings for her,” Angela said to Nyla. “His voice cracked and went up an entire octave. And that was before The Great Resistance.”

Nyla and Bailey snickered.

“The Great Resistance?” Lucy grumbled, her cheeks flaming red.

“Yeah,” Nyla nodded, picking up a grape from a bowl of fruit Bailey had set on the table. “You know? The time between the UC op and when Grey made you two ride together again.”

“Oh my god,” Lucy pressed her palm to her forehead. “So everybody knows?”

“Well, not everybody,” Bailey interjected, motioning her wine glass toward the hall. “I’m pretty sure Nolan hasn’t figured it out. He’s had his hands full with Celina.”

“Well, that’s ironic,” Lucy mumbled. “Okay, let’s focus. We really need to figure out a solution for Hicks and then everything else should fall into place.”

“What about motors?” Angela asked.

“He has triplets,” Lucy and Nyla said simultaneously.

“Oof,” Bailey cringed. “Definitely not the safest job for someone who isn’t going to get a good night’s sleep for the foreseeable future.”

“What did I miss?” Nolan asked as he jogged up.

James and Wesley were right behind him and Nyla explained the musical chairs they were trying to accomplish. Wesley took a sleeping Jackson from Angela’s arms and went to lay him down in Nolan’s guest room.

“I got it,” Nolan said. He picked up a sticky. “Hicks leaves Metro, goes to IA. Remington moves to Motors. That means Watson gets into SWAT. Halsey comes over to Metro. There's still a spot for Tim.”

“Remington's wife won't let her on a motorcycle, so that's a non-starter,” Nyla said, shaking her head.

“Okay, um, Fuji retires?” Lucy moved Fujii to ‘Retired’. “Halsey goes to Metro and Madison goes to Robbery. Hmm?”

“Primm will go to Vice?” Angela suggested.

“No, they hate each other,” Nolan shot down.

“Okay.” Lucy tapped her chin. “Um, Jones goes to SWAT.”

They stared at the window and a slow smile grew on their faces.

“And Bob's your uncle,” Angela said.

A knock sounded on the front door and Nolan went to answer it.

“Yes,” Lucy clapped and then her smile fell. “Oh, no.”

“What?” Nyla asked.

“Well, the only way this works is if Fuji retires,” Lucy pointed out, “and the only person who can convince her to do that is…”

“Smitty,” Nyla supplied.

“Yeah.” Lucy grimaced.

“Hey, Tim,” Nolan said loud enough for his voice to carry. “This is unexpected. What's your -- What's the -- What are you -- What's up?”

“Shhhit!” Lucy whispered. They all frantically pulled the sticky notes off of the glass.

“Uh, I heard you had power,” Tim said. “I was hoping you had the game on.”

Bailey plopped on the sectional and stuffed a handful of stickies behind her back while James shoved some down between the side arm and cushion. Lucy stuck a stack under her thigh as she sat.

“Yes,” Nolan stalled. “I mean, yes, we have power. The game is -- We can...”

“Is that Lucy's car?” Tim pointed over his shoulder.

”Uh, yes. Come on in,” Nolan said and waved him in. “Hey, guys, look who it is.”

Nolan headed for the kitchen while Tim approached the group.

“It's a party,” Tim said suspiciously. “What's going on?”

“Nothing,” Angela shrugged. “Just enjoying the A/C.”

Lucy nodded in agreement a little too eagerly.

“You okay?” Tim asked her.

“Yeah,” Lucy said with a smile. “Couldn't be better.”

“So you’ve all just been sitting here in silence?” Tim asked, raising his eyebrows.

“Well, we just got here.” Lucy provided.

Nolan cleared his throat and handed Tim a beer.

“The game?” Nolan asked. He picked the remote up from the coffee table and navigated to the local sports channel.

“Oh, sure,” Tim said. “If that’s cool with everyone?”

“Of course,” Bailey said and scooted down the sofa closer to Angela to make room for Nolan and Tim. She carefully slid the stickies behind her back to Angela.

An uncomfortable silence fell over the room as everyone pretended to be focused on the screen. James tapped his fingers along the armrest and Nolan’s leg bounced nervously to the same beat.

Wesley returned and sat on the floor in front of his wife. He glanced around the room, an odd expression on his face.

“Did I miss something?” Wesley asked.

“Nope,” James said, but it was clear he was holding back a smile.

“Then why isn’t anyone talking?” Wesley looked between Tim and Lucy sitting on opposite sides of the room.

“We’re enjoying the game,” Lucy said, clearing her throat.

Tim huffed and rolled his eyes.

“What?” Lucy asked, pursing her lips with a dare in her eyes.

“I’ve known Nolan for years and he’s never sat in silence this long,” Tim said. “ Something is definitely -– Oh.”

Tim’s brows shot up and he looked around the room. His eyes widened and Lucy subtly shook her head, silently trying to communicate.

“You told them?” He asked and she let out an exasperated breath.

Angela, Nyla, and Bailey burst out laughing from a mixture of relief at the awkward silence ending and amusement that Tim had picked up on the wrong secret.

“No, Tim,” Lucy rolled her eyes but she was smiling. “You told them.”

“Okay, now I’m missing something,” Nolan said to Bailey.

“Oh, honey,” Bailey slapped Nolan on the knee and shook her head.

Angela wiped tears out of her eyes and Nyla leaned back against James. The air seemed to clear with the news finally out in the open so Tim put his hands on his knees to push up from the sectional and walked over to Lucy.

He held out his hand and Lucy took it, rising to her feet. She swiped the sticky note stuck to her thigh off and it fell to the ground.

“Are you going to tell me what’s up with the sticky notes everyone thought I didn’t see being passed around?” Tim asked.

“Don’t worry about it,” Lucy said, standing on her tippy toes to peck him on the lips. “Trust me.”

“I do.” Tim smiled down at her.

“Oh,” Nolan let out a surprised noise and then chuckled. “Wow. Am I the only one who didn’t know about this?”

“Yes,” everyone on the sectional said simultaneously, leading to another round of laughter.

Tim used the momentary distraction to steal a kiss from Lucy, perfectly happy that he no longer had to hide his affection for her.

“Ew!” Angela threw a pillow at them, hitting him in the back. “Get a room!”

“But please, not here,” Nolan teased.

Lucy turned in Tim’s arms until she was leaning back against him. He wrapped his arms around her waist and held her close as they listened to their friends all join in to heckle them.

Suddenly, their relationship felt real. Lucy thought that would scare her when they finally reached this moment, but instead, the warmth of their friends' happiness and acceptance put her perfectly at ease. These people were her family and she’d never felt more grateful that she'd taken a risk on a whim a few years ago to join the LAPD. She smiled up at Tim and knew without a doubt, he felt the same way.

Oh please don’t remind me how much I hate the donor sl, and I hate it even more because it could have been good, I mean you want to drag things out all season fine, make buck finding ways to avoid the thing, but still wanting to do that, make him talk with Maddie and eddie, make him re consider his relationship with Chris, but this this ever going possibility of the parents dropping dead at any moment and for no reason let him have the baby it’s so awful

#unpopularoppinion and I'll preface this by saying I'm not addressing the character, just the show runners, but I do not understand what the hell is up with the siblings as of late. Yeah, siblings grow up and maybe grow apart over time because of separate lives, but even disregarding how that's not the kind of relationship they've ever had (they never stopped caring or worrying or wondering what the other was doing) ...does it not feel like the fandom puts more thought into explaining or exploring that dynamic compared to the show? This is the second time in two seasons (two HALF seasons, really) that the assumption/expectation was for Maddie to give her younger brother some tough love so he would start to make the necessary changes; it's a big reason why people wanted to support the 5B story line, right? Particularly the way BT was handled in 5x11&5x13? Maddie was "supposed to" show up, survey the scene, and call Buck out on his shit so he would admit it was time to move on. What we got instead was no mention of infidelity on screen and a conversation that made him double down not because of anything to do with his personal issues, but because TayKay had to stick around for the "showdown" with Lucy and then the report on Jonah which sent her off for good. During 6A, we found out Maddie wasn't told about the decision to donate sperm before we got to the midseason finale from JLH herself. (They had just started production on 6x09 when the interview came out.) So, first instinct was to say "I guess that means he won't make a final decision until 6B" because *of course* Maddie should be giving her opinion. Yeah, no. 6x09 airs. Maddie says nothing. Her boyfriend, the worst secret keeper ever, doesn't have a "You know I can't lie to your sister!" moment. What, exactly, is the purpose of having her react after the fact? So he can regret what he's done DESPITE the script making it clear he knew what he signed up for? What even is going on over there????

I think about the juxtapoistion between the beginning and the end of 5x13. Important people in Buck and Hen’s life make their big entrance back into their life, a fear that they had of neither of them (Chimney/Jee and Maddie) luckily not coming true. Buck and Taylor doing their best to delay the inevitable. Maddie overcoming her trauma. And then poor baby Eddie, reaching his breaking point. The highest of highs and lowest of lows

No but fear-o-phobia drives me mental with the way things are falling apart. Maddie and Chim are back but they broke up, Eddie is going to therapy but was literally about to snap, Buck starts the episode happy because Maddie is back but it goes downhill from there with Taylor and Eddie. It's an episode about fear and it's just bad things happening to shatter the illusion. Maddie is afraid to be back at the apartment because of what it means, Chim is afraid of leaving Jee, Buck is afraid he's doing the wrong thing with Taylor and then gets slammed with the fear Eddie might hurt himself. They do get low that episode and I'm obsessed with it. But it's interesting that madney, who start the episode on a lower point, end it in a better place, while Buck and Eddie, who start the episode in a place that leads you to believe things are getting better, ended it in a really bad moment.

Hi there. I have seen many posts on different social media platforms that many fans were disappointed with the 5x13 episode as there was no follow through from the previous episode and nobody asked Tim why he moved to a desk job. What are your thoughts? I personally enjoyed the episode and understand it can't be Chenford all the time. I appreciated the moments we got.

Yeah, I can see why. Plot aside, it was too ambiguous : is it still supposed to be a secret relationship or not? Because there's no way no one asked Tim about his new job. Even if we didn't get to see it. And if we go by Nyla's reaction to Lucy's meddling it would seem she knows why, implying that the cat is out of the bag. And yet, when they were with their friends, they were low-key and no one made any comment as if they were still secretly dating with no one being any the wiser (which doesn't make sense since they know Tim got a new job). We just got Angela's knowing look... but it could also be because she knew what Lucy was hiding from Tim. So in the end, it almost feels as if the writer himself didn't know the answer and kept it vague on purpose. I think a tighter writing would have helped a lot, even without adding a new scene.

Personally - As much as I hoped we would get some teasing (mainly Angela), I can't say I'm surprised we didn't. We rarely get to see the reactions when it comes to major events in the characters' personal life : think about Angela's engagement and pregnancies for instance. Minus Nyla for both babies, we never saw anyone else react to these big announcements. But I did love the Chenford scenes we got. They just radiate happiness. The scene at Nolan's could have been longer though, it kind of cut abruptly. I also liked the shuffle in the regular partnerships : having Lucy and Nyla work together is always a big yes for me, Angela and Wesley as well. I enjoyed seeing Celina with both Grey and Tim… And it really makes me wish she could get another TO for a short while because Nolan is too friendly with her. Having said that, I found the writing a bit all over the place. There were so many plots which didn't help either. It needed to be more cohesive.

Love your opinion about the boxes? Cause I'm convinced they belong to lois lane, and I know they breakup but the possibility of seeing a lot more of her is making me going 🤬

Okay so someone else mentioned they are BIG boxes which doesn't really fit with her moving IN so much as Buck moving OUT. Now, we all knew there was going to be an "impulsive" relationship decision (with lots of negative connotations around that statement), so them officially moving in together to a new place or Buck packing up to move in with her is not out of the realm of possibility.

BUT we see Maddie arriving. We KNOW how Oliver has felt about this relationship and how excited he is for what's coming up this season. And we know that even with the "impulsive relationship decision", there is also a "huge wrench". Regardless of what the boxes mean, if it's her moving in or him moving out, it's not going to fully happy BECAUSE the wrench interrupts their plans, and given what Oliver has said and what we've seen, that wrench ultimately leads to a breakup and Buck setting himself free.

Please remember it is GOING to get worse before it gets better. Look at where Maddie and Eddie were in 5a and where they are now! Buck is still in that "masking" phase and he's going to have to deal with Maddie and Eddie breaking down and pushing his needs ever FURTHER onto the back burner. I think 5b is going to bring healing for Eddie and Maddie, but we are just starting to see hints of the Buck breakdown that is still to come. He barely processed stuff with his parents and then we got baby Jee and the shooting and starting a new relationship (derogatory), and the blackout and Eddie panic attacks, and Maddie breakdown, and her and Chim and then Eddie leaving, like...Buck has not had a chance to breathe and he's getting ZERO emotional support from his gf and doesn't think he can ask for it from anyone else because they have their own stuff and as his gf constantly reminds him, it's not about him and he doesn't want to be needy. So buckle up indeed because it is going to get worse. Though in terms of the reporter, with all this going on? No way she makes it past 5x13.

Oh man, so on the topic of Blouis - the whole thing with them is that while Louis turning on Blair in 5x13 seems to come out of left field, looking back on it, there are like… a ton of red flags? Blair and Louis only dated for at most a month before they got engaged, and Blair was only 20 years old at the time (truth be told, I’m not entirely sure how old Louis was supposed to be, but I’m assuming he was around the same age). The thing about this engagement though is that it requires that Blair up and moves to a foreign country where the only person she even knows is Louis, and while her wealth should afford her a certain freedom of movement, we can see just by the way she spent the summer between seasons 4 and 5 that in Monaco, she’s pretty isolated - at least from her support system back home. Then there’s the fact that Louis decides Blair’s closest friends are a “bad influence” on her, and pressures her to cut ties with Serena in particular to the point that it becomes an actual problem in their relationship. Then there’s Louis going behind Blair’s back with her own medical team to get her paternity test information, and honestly I don’t care how much reason he had to distrust her at this point, violating your partner’s ability to trust their own physician is a huge no. From what we saw, Louis at almost every turn chose to isolate Blair, violate her privacy, and keep her away from her loved ones. I don’t think I even noticed the first time I watched because of the sheer amount of other drama going on at the same time, but in retrospect, the way Louis treated Blair was SUPER sketchy, even from the get-go.

ohhhhh anon you are speaking to my soul!!! I totally agree, the 5x13 switch isn't that much a big reveal, the red flags are there for sure, but I didn't clock them until I rewatched either.

the engagement happening so fast -- as a person who's consumed a lot of royalty plot media (so many novels about tudor england), there's sort of a suspension of disbelief in those stories vis a vis timing, if that makes sense? blair even says something like "these princes, they move quickly!" and with the proposal, there was a major ultimatum at play of, the grimaldi's wanting to arrange louis' marriage, so if blair wanted to even entertain the possibility of a relationship with him, that had to include marriage, and pretty fast. and blair waldorf never loses a game of chicken.

the isolation thing: big Yeah. we see in the onset of season 5 that she hasn't seen serena or talked to dan at all despite her plans to do both. and we're not told why exactly, but one can infer that it's the pressures of The Firm. (i've got diana and now the sussexes on my mind when thinking about this arc now i can't help it). and, given how the grimaldi's behave when they find out about blair's pregnancy, re: the child-rearing contract, there's this implication that they have the view of: this is an American Outsider who needs to be controlled.

maybe you remember the details better than I do but I don't think louis interferes with blair's care, as I remember it he finds the paternity test paperwork in her desk, freaks, and instead of asking her about it, bribes a psychiatrist into gaslighting chuck. and I have no love for chuck, but committing crimes and interfering with care that that buffoon has needed for a long time is a big No. also, I'm very pro-therapy, and anytime a show's writing implies that therapy is pointless or easily undermined makes me >:(

and we know that blair cheats, and cheating is not okay, but at that point in the story she had made a deliberate and conscious choice to be with louis, we can argue whether or not that was a good idea when dan was literally right. there., but like I said, louis could have chosen to talk it out, forgive her, and move on, but instead he let it fester into an emotionally-manipulative maelstrom of mistrust that sunk his relationship even before the accident in 5x10.

and then the whole bridal shower thing. this response is getting long and i'm losing steam here, but the hypocrisy of louis doing a very bad thing (see above) but then acting like blair and her friends are the problem, when the problem is actually a meltdown of communication combined with the sword of damocles that is gossip girl makes me furious. especially because these two were planning to raise a child together, but louis behaved as if that didn't matter. I'll sum it up with my thoughts that I relayed via Daniel in a couple different fics:

“You were carrying his baby. He should've known that the mother of his child is never wrong, even if she says the sky is purple and made out of hedgehogs.”

“I know…” Dan trails off, searching for the right words. “I know I said that the father of your child shouldn’t determine who you choose to be with...but you being the mother of his should earn you a little bit of his respect, and his trust.”
