It actually is pretty interesting that Cas rides with Jo and Ellen in their station wagon all the way to Carthage. I can see why Lucifer mentioned it. Like it makes sense that Cas rides with Dean in 5.03 because Dean specifically insists he isn’t being flown—it gave him bowel issues. But then he rides with them to Carthage instead of meeting them there too. I mean he certainly wouldn’t want to arrive early on accident with no back up, but there is something about Cas choosing to ride in a car, isn’t there? Just like there’s something to him spending quality time with all of them in Bobby’s house the night before—letting Ellen and Jo ply him with alcohol just to see how it effects him. Cas is willing to mingle among humans in a way a lot of other angels we’ve met simply aren’t—Uriel, Zachariah, and as we’re about to learn—Lucifer.
Cas, Anna, and Gabriel are our angels who choose to befriend humans—Cas in ways that are inconvenient if only specifically to spend more quality time among them.
