the pearl necklace cover
The first one is one of the more (in)famous Archie covers, so gets an inflated price in Overstreet (long time chronicler of such things), as everyone has a sense that they slipped past a sexual reference. Or perhaps something innocuous had evolved into such. I guess by the time for the digest cover revision the editors had heard the 1981 ZZ Top song so got clued in that something was up.
Looking around in a cursory manner to see if there are any origin points more specific than "a slightly older kid on the playground who heard it from a visiting cousin", the Wikipedia page proves more than useless. But I am surprised by the photo used for Illustration -- which to be sure, yeah, I guess that is your "pearl necklace".

#fave spotting#rosemary leach#disraeli: portrait of a romantic#disraeli#the power game#character actors#classic tv#atv#1978#if i hadn't seen her name in the opening credits then i sincerely don't think I'd have recognised Rosemary in her first appearance in this#series (not pictured); she is introduced at the very end of the second episode‚ as Disraeli finally enters government#and she looks so severe and so.. idk! i was quite taken aback. plus that wig..#she's very good tho‚ playing Victoria across a more than 20 year period#at first i thought the series had presented a rather dim version of Victoria‚ easily impressed by the flatteries Disraeli lays on#with a trowel‚ and more or less manipulated into supporting his policies. actually there's a little more nuance there (but nothing quite as#well developed as Granada's 1964 Victoria Regina; i feel like that spoiled me for Vic portrayals bc it's so courageously interrogational of#her character and personality and politics; then again this series is about Disraeli and Queenie is a small support so perhaps it's to be#expected). what was i saying? oh yeh‚ so Rosemary does suggest some depth where the script allows; the thawing towards Dizzy#and subsequent befriending‚ her command that he sit in her presence bc of his gout but despite protocol‚ her exceedingly low#opinion of Gladstone. it's Victoria as perhaps we know her in popular culture for the most part but with at least a little sparkle around#the edges and the kind of solid fleshing out a good actor can do with even a fairly broadly written part

Iron Man (1968) #131
#so this is another ‘Hulk in Bruce’s body’ story#so soon after reading The Hulk! (1978) issue 19#I’m glad because I think it’s a really interesting concept#the Hulk is really dependent on how invulnerable he is#if he acted like he naturally does but in Bruce’s weaker body he would immediately hurt himself#his reaction to that in the The Hulk! issue was limited because of his warped mental state so I’m curious as to what they do with it here#the way this is being presented is that the biological change that transforms Bruce into the Hulk has been prevented#but since Bruce was endangered and stressed the way that triggers the Hulk#the Hulk still mentally took over control#which is interesting because I think the The Hulk! issue was also trying to explore the distinction#between Bruce’s condition being psychological and biological#where it had a biological origin but was in manifestation enough like ‘multiple personality disorder’#so an experimental biological treatment for the condition as opposed to the usual psychological ones could potentially work for Bruce#and there when it was Bruce in the Hulk’s body I think that was more as framed as Bruce believing that he’s the Hulk#and not even quite that he had become the Hulk just without the biological change#so- very interesting#marvel#bruce banner#tony stark#my posts#comic panels

i think i might spend the next few nights watching the bbc 1970s ‘a ghost story for christmas’ series
#the appointment and the insomniac reminded me just how fond i am of short little 70s british tv horrors. ancestors of inside no 9 in a way—#yes i think they’re just so fascinating. i think i’ll watch whistle and i’ll come to you (1968) and lost hearts (1973) tonight#and maybe the ash tree (1975) and the ice house (1978) tomorrow night or the night after. we’ll see#lost hearts looks especially interesting. there’s something about seventies-does-dreamlike that’s so indescribable…. a mindset within a#mindset. and a dream within a dream from a present-day standpoint i suppose
