seems like a scary storm to be in. do they happen often? is that just normal weather there?
It can be scary but I’m pretty safe in here! Unless like last night where something important like a generator or air filtration unit gets hit but usually they just pass without much hassle.
and they’re frequent, at least a few a week. Last night was particularly rough though. Things have cleared up since

And that's it!
Wow, I had no idea I released so much. It was so much fun to relive all of that while I was making this.
This year was very harsh on me, I lost a couple of family members and I also almost lost my job as well, so if you were wondering about the sudden decline, that's your answer.
Special shoutout to the artists that made fan art of my work, they mean so much to me.
And a very special thank you to the people that left comments, wrote reviews and sent asks, they are not overlooked, and they fuel me to keep going.
Being inspired to write is hard, finding that spark of myself I want to add to my work is rough, but when I'm standing alone in the dark, it's you that hold the torch that lights my way out.
Cheesy, I know.
Anyway, Thank You everyone, I'll see you in 2024 with more smut and more angst.
Sincerely,
becauseicantthinkwritings.

Caleb Williams: 2022 Heisman Trophy Winner
Tumblr media
Sophomore quarterback Caleb Williams from the University of Southern California was announced as the 88th winner of the Heisman Memorial Trophy during ESPN’s 2022 Heisman Trophy Ceremony Presented by Nissan on Saturday (Dec. 10), originating from Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, N.Y.
Williams, joined in New York tonight by fellow finalists Stetson Bennett of Georgia, Max Duggan of TCU and C.J. Stroud of Ohio State, is now USC’s seventh Heisman winner and the second straight sophomore to win the award following Alabama’s Bryce Young in 2021.
“To the men standing behind me, thank you for your passion to the game,” said Williams before hoisting his trophy. “Because kids like me have dreams and goals of being the best from watching you all.
USC’s previous winners include Matt Leinart (2004), Carson Palmer (2002), Marcus Allen (1981), Charles White (1979), O.J., Simpson (1968) and Mike Garrett (1965).
He is the sixth sophomore to win the Heisman, the 19th quarterback in the last 22 years to win the Heisman and the 38th quarterback overall.
This marks the third Heisman winner to play for USC Head Coach Lincoln Riley, who was the head coach at Oklahoma when Baker Mayfield (2017) and Kyler Murray (2018) became Heisman winners.
The 6-foot-1 Williams, who was named the 2022 AP Player of the Year in addition to winning the Maxwell and Walter Camp Awards earlier this week, has thrown for 4,075 yards on 296-of-448 passing (66.1%) with a national co-leading 37 touchdown passes against just four interceptions. His passing yards is fourth-most nationally, his quarterback rating (167.94) is fifth-best and his passing yards per game (313.5) is sixth-best.
Williams, who led USC to an 11-2 season after the Trojans went 4-8 in 2021, is third nationally in total offense with 4,447 yards with a total that broke USC’s school record (4,225, 2017). He has also rushed for 372 yards (the most at USC in at least 70 years) on 109 carries with a team-best 10 TDs.
Williams’ 47 total touchdowns lead the country, as do his 282 points responsible for while his total touchdowns are a school record. He threw for over 300 yards seven times, including twice over 400 yards.
Williams’ passing yards (4,075) is the eighth-most among Heisman winners, his 47 total touchdowns (49) are ninth most, his total offense (4,447) and quarterback rating (167.94) are 11th-most in Heisman history.
Williams is the second Heisman winner to wear No. 13 and the first since Miami winner Gino Torretta in 1992.
The 2022 Heisman Trophy ballots went out to 929 electors, which includes 870 members of the media, our 58 living Heisman winners and one overall fan vote presented by Nissan, premier partner of the Heisman Trophy. All ballots were submitted electronically to the independent accountants at Deloitte.

Because theres lots of time travel, I’ve included colour coding, character ages, and tried to make it as comprehensible as possible ^‿^
The events of season 1 are in black, the events of season 2 are in purple. Events that end up as an alternative timeline to the main story are in red.

But for some reason she just doesn't and goes to the siblings instead? - Lila chooses the siblings over The Handler. - In an alternative timeline, the Handler murders the siblings & Lila before she herself is shot by the remaining Swede. - Five (58/13) successfully time travels several seconds into the past. - The last Swede kills The Handler. - Lila takes a briefcase and disappears into time. - Vanya removes her powers from Harlan (or so she thinks). - The siblings travel forward to April 2nd 2019.
Nov 25th 1963 - Five (58/13) appears in Dallas after attempting to escape the '19 apocalypse. He witnesses an alternative timeline where the USA and Russia are at war and a nuclear strike causes the '63 apocalypse. He travels with Hazel to 10 days in the past.
April 1967 Klaus (29) appears from March 27th 2019 in Vietnam (note: in S1 the date of his arrival is 1968, however the dates given in S2 would mean he arrived in 1967). While on leave he visits Saigon. He wasn't sober during his time in Vietnam.
Feb 21st 1968 - David Katz is shot and killed on hill 689 in the A Shau Valley. - After 10 months in Vietnam, Klaus (30) travels forward to March 28th 2019.
1982 Following his deal with the Handler, Five (58/13) travels from Nov 21st 1963 and arrives at The Lonely Lodge Inn in Oshkosh, Wisconsin where he murders the Commission's entire Board of Directors.
October 1st 1989 - 43 women mysteriously give birth even though they weren’t pregnant that morning. - Sir Reginald Hargreeves begins travelling the world attempting to acquire as many of the miracle children as he can. He gets seven which he ranks in ascending order of power (though he tells them its by descending order of usefulness). He doesn't tell them about the other 36 children. - In an alternate timeline, Reginald chooses to adopt 6 different children (plus Ben) to form The Sparrow Academy because he knows of The Umbrella Academy's failings.
1993 - Reginald has already begun training the children (aged 3). It’s mentioned that they train together and also have “designated training days.” - Vanya (3) kills several nannies before Grace is created. At some unknown point after this (but before they turn 12) Grace gives the children names.
Oct-Dec 1993 Whilst working for the Commission, Five (53-58) assassinates the parents of Lila Spitts. Unbeknownst to him, the Handler then adopts Lila (4) and begins training her./p>
June 12th 1994 Reginald beings training Vanya (4) to hone her powers. He notes that in a chaotic environment (such as with the nannies) she quickly looses control, so uses a sustained note to encourage her to “locate control in another form”.
June 24th 1994 After 12 days of successful training, Vanya (4) refuses to listen and lashes out. Based on the cut on Reginald’s face, Vanya is immediately locked in the isolation chamber.
July 1994 Based on the healed cut on Reginald face, Vanya (4) is kept in isolation for at least 2 weeks. She is medicated and then made to forget about her powers by Allison (4).
1998 - Klaus (8) is locked in the mausoleum (seen in the flashback). - Diego (8) tells Klaus that licking a 9 volt battery will give him pubes.

Lies Sleeping timeline
Guys, it turns out three weeks without internet was what I needed to complete this, even though this book has an actual real-world event that can be tied to a specific date in a specific year, and I didn’t have to do any back-calculations from sunset times or solstices AT ALL. It’s like a tiny curative fandom miracle.
Main takeaways: Lies Sleeping takes place over about two months! I’m as surprised as you are. It read like one very hellish week. Also, we still have nearly a full year to go in book-canon time before the Brexit referendum. how many books do we wanna bet BA can cram in there before Peter & co have to join the rest of us in The Darkest Timeline.
Check out the other timelines and my series timeline here on DW (or in the ‘timelines’ tag on my Tumblr.)
14 Nov 2014: Operation Jennifer begins (prologue)
Dec/Jan 2014/5: The unwritten Kimberley Reynolds novella takes place, prior to the events of this book, and involves the ‘centre of a small town’ being ‘levelled’
Early June 2015: Peter passes his detective exams (Detective Stories)
Day 1 (Sunday June 7th): Peter, Guleed, Carey, and Nightingale stake out Richard Williams' house and fight the Pale Nanny/Charlotte Greenwood. That night, Peter has dinner with Bev, Nicky, and Abigail at Bev’s house. Day 2: (Monday June 8th): Peter wakes up at the Folly and spends time in the gym, has breakfast with the team, visits the Whitechapel Bell Foundry and finds the magic bell, then goes to check on Williams. Charlotte Greenwood triggers Williams’ murder tattoo and is shot by Lucy the security guard. Peter attends Charlotte’s autopsy with Walid and Vaughan.
Day 3/4 (Tues/Wed June 9th/10th):  Peter does community outreach trying to find out where Charlotte came from and calls Kim Reynolds, probably early on Wednesday morning his time (it’s ‘past 8pm in Washington’, meaning it’s past 1am in London. An early sign of how hard Peter’s pushing himself.)
Day 5 (Thursday June 11th): Peter checks on Zach, talks to Marcia the magical-weed selling canal traveller, has an uninformative visit with Walbrook, and spends the night at Beverley’s. Day 6 (Friday June 12th): Peter has IPCC interviews all day about Charlotte’s death, spends some time guarding the bell at the foundry, then heads back to Bev’s.
Day 7/8 (Saturday/Sunday June 13th/14th): Nicky comes over to Bev’s very early. Peter does some Latin practice and notices how quiet the Folly feels after-hours now.  Day 10 (Tuesday June 16th): Michelle Obama visits London, diverting Guleed and Nightingale’s attention. Lesley shows up at foundry while Peter is there and he doesn’t have Frank Caffrey shoot her. They destroy the bell. Day 11-13 (Wednesday-Friday, June 17th-19th): Peter reads the terrible movie script, gets back Postmartin’s notes on it, and talks to Kim Reynolds again.  Day 14-15 (Saturday/Sunday, June 20th/21st): Peter travels with Beverley and Abigail to Father Thames’ Summer Court and spends the night there. On the Sunday he’s called back to London by Stephanopoulos to talk to Geneviève Nguyễn about the ritual sacrifice in the City.  Day 16 (Monday June 22nd): Peter and Nightingale interview Patrick Gale and talk about magic becoming public.  Day 20 (Friday June 26th:) Team meeting
Day 21-26 (Saturday-Thursday June 27th-Jul 2nd): They’re called to the MOLA at 3 in the morning over an attempted break-in; Peter takes notes and does follow-up.  Day 27 (Friday July 3rd): Peter follows Zach to Lesley’s apartment Day 28 (Saturday July 4th): Peter goes back to Folly, sleeps for some of the day, and interviews Zach in the afternoon.  Day 29 (Sunday July 5th): Peter consults Nightingale about sources of information on Punch and talks to Sir William via Lady Ty. He ends up in A&E, and walks back to Folly after midnight. Day 30 (Monday July 6th): A ‘tea committee’ meeting is held, and Peter goes to restatement Camilla Turner the archaeologist. Day 31 (Tuesday July 7th): Peter goes through Turner’s emails and visits the Paternoster Society’s meeting place. Day 32 (Wednesday July 8th): Peter and Bev have dinner with Isis and Oxley, who are in town for the opera. Peter is given a prophecy.  Day 33 (Thursday July 9th): Lesley calls Peter to warn him a River is being kidnapped. Walbrook is rescued from Chorley and his tinned vampire in an epic car chase. Day 34 (Friday July 10th): Peter goes to another meeting, takes his mum shopping, and has a haircut. Bev and he stay over at his parents’ place. Day 35/36 (Saturday/Sunday July 11th/12th): Peter takes the weekend off, by order, and helps Maksim do some planting on Wimbledon Common.  Day 37 (Monday July 13th): David Carey goes on medical leave. Lesley calls Peter and they meet at a pub. He leaves and gets into a police car. It’s Lesley, and she kidnaps him.  Day 38-45 (Tuesday July 14th - Tuesday July 21st): Peter has Fun Torture Time with Lesley and Chorley and spends a week in an oubliette with Foxglove. By Sunday he’s made friends with her, and on the second Tuesday she tells him her story.  Day 46 (Wednesday July 22nd): Chorley and Lesley visit and Peter hears bell noises and swearing. That evening, Foxglove releases him from durance vile and he reunites with Bev at the Folly.  Day 47 (Thursday July 23rd): Peter and Abigail talk to foxes; Molly is absent.  Day 48 (Friday July 24th): Peter and his mum cook for everybody at the Folly; that night, he and Nightingale see Foxglove and Molly dancing.  Day 49 (Saturday July 25th): All hell breaks loose; Lesley shoots Stephanopoulos (in the leg) and Chorley ‘dies’ in a van crash.
Day 50 (Sunday July 26th): Nightingale goes to Glastonbury and Guleed to the Midlands. Peter goes to visit Punch and makes Caffrey and Beverley worried he’s suicidal. That night, he confronts Chorley and Lesley at Covent Garden and Lesley shoots Chorley (in the head).
Late July: Peter is suspended while Chorley’s death is investigated. He’s told it will be for months.  August: Nightingale begins a school for amateur practitioners; Foxglove is established at the  Folly; Peter and Bev go on a double date with Sahra and Michael. Late August: Beverley tells Peter she’s pregnant. By inference, she’s due sometime between February and April 2016 (depending on how far along she is when she tells Peter).

68 ASG members killed, 128 surrender in 2020: AFP
#PHnews: 68 ASG members killed, 128 surrender in 2020: AFP
MANILA – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) units have so far neutralized 68 members of terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) while 128 have surrendered during intense military operations this year.
Data gathered show that 156 firearms and 10 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were either surrendered by or seized from the terrorist group, according to the statement released by AFP public affairs office chief Navy Capt. Jonathan Zata on Sunday.
Recent gains against the ASG include the surrender of two subleaders and 13 members in Jolo, Sulu on Dec. 11.
The 1101st Infantry Brigade facilitated a program for the surrender of ASG subleaders Alvin Yusop and Arab Puti and some of their members including 14 assorted firearms they surrendered to Joint Task Force Sulu.
Three ASG members involved in kidnap-for-ransom consecutively yielded to government forces in Tawi-Tawi from Dec. 2 to 4.
A certain Alsadi Hanain surrendered with his M-1 Garand rifle to the 2nd Marine Brigade in Bongao on Dec. 4 while Bennaser Pae voluntarily surrendered with an M-16A1 rifle and ammunition to troops of Marine Battalion Landing Team-12 on Dec. 3.
Meanwhile, Ugali Alimudin gave himself up to the 36th Marine Company at its headquarters in Sapa-Sapa and turned over an M-14 rifle with magazine and ammunition on Dec. 2.
A total of 36 ASG terrorists along with 11 firearms surrendered to the 4th Marine Brigade in Omar, Sulu on Dec. 4.
“We are currently satisfied with how our troops are continuing our offensives against the ASG, but this does not mean we’re letting our guards down against them or other local terrorists,” AFP chief-of-staff Gen. Gilbert I. Gapay said.
The AFP also achieved significant gains against other Local Terrorist Groups (LTGs) this year as armed encounters against the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) led to the death of 31 of their members, while 184 surrendered, and 22 others were captured.
On Dec. 8, operating troops of the 40th Infantry Battalion arrested seven members of BIFF in Datu Hoffer, Maguindanao. Confiscated were two M-1 Garand rifles, one M-14 rifle, and one M-4 rifle.
Troops also engaged BIFF rebels in an encounter in Sharif Aguak last Dec. 9.
The 11th Mechanized Company quelled a possible attack by the BIFF-Karialan faction under “Diok” and recovered live ammunition from enemy positions after the firefight. The 6th Infantry Division clashed with the BIFF in Datu Piang on Dec. 3.
The troops on the ground forced the attackers to withdraw leaving no civilians unharmed.
Meanwhile, 31 members of Daesh-Inspired Maute Group were killed in combat while 35 of them surrendered and five were captured since January of this year.
Gapay said the AFP aims to maintain its firm position in going after the ASG and other terrorist groups despite the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
“We will stop at nothing to keep our fellow Filipinos safe and secure from the despicable acts of terrorism and violent extremism. Your AFP, hand in hand with other government agencies, stakeholders and local government units shall continue to unite to ensure the downfall of local terrorist groups threatening our peace,” he added. Buccaneers vs. Saints score, results: Brady struggles, Brees dominates in blowout win for New Orleans
Tumblr media
The Saints sent a strong message on “Sunday Night Football,” pulling off the regular season sweep over the Buccaneers as they rolled to a 38-3 victory.
In a matchup between two teams at the top of the NFC South standings, led by two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks standing neck-and-neck atop the NFL’s all-time passing touchdowns list, the contrast could not have been more stark. Drew Brees lit up the Tampa Bay defense, completing 26-of-32 (81.3 percent) passes for 222 yards and four TDs. New Orleans’ defense dominated Tom Brady, as the 43-year-old completed 22-of-38 (57.9 percent) passes for 209 yards and threw three interceptions.
Brees made it look easy, hooking up with 11 different receivers as the Saints deployed their weapons to perfection. And he wasn’t the only New Orleans QB to shine; Taysom Hill completed 2-of-2 passes for 48 yards, ran the ball seven times for 54 yards and hauled in a catch for a 21-yard gain. Even Jameis Winston saw action on the Saints’ final possession, completing a 12-yard pass to Michael Burton.
Brady, meanwhile, was under pressure all night long and was hit nine different times, three of them for sacks. Tampa Bay went three-and-out on its first four possessions, turned it over on an interception on the second play of its fifth drive, turned it over on downs on its sixth possession and then was interception again on its final possession of the first half.
Undoubtedly playing a big role in Brees’ success was the return of wideout Michael Thomas, who had a team-high five catches in six targets for 51 yards.
Perhaps contributing to Brady’s struggles was the near non-existance of any sort of ground attack for the Bucs. Tampa Bay set an NFL record for fewest rushes in a game with only five attempts, one of those being a Blaine Gabbert kneel down to end the game.
The Saints (6-2) take the lead in the NFC South with the win, while the Buccaneers (6-3) fall half a game behind. With the loss, it’s the first time in Brady’s 20 seasons that he’s ever been swept by a division opponent.

Autumn is on the horizon, which is my favourite time of year. In this post we are gently easing you into the next season with some ultra lush cable knits in our opening feature. My absolute favourite is the tunic with pockets. I find that too few women’s garments have pockets so when they do,I am usually sold! Not to mention that the yarn this is knitted in is  dreamily soft and light.

2. Work you are most proud of (and why):
def journey to the past because it’s my One Great Multichap of the year, and i really enjoy writing it!!! something about it flows really nicely and it seems to function really well as a plot and i’m just really happy with how it’s going even if it’s not quite done yet.
3. Work you are least proud of (and why):
ehm there’s nothing specific, although i know some of my sequel pieces i’ve been a little disappointed in because it’s not quite as good as the original (but when is it).
4. A favorite excerpt of your writing:
i have too many published fics how do you expect me to make these sorts of choices
Alec laughed openly, and Magnus simply shrugged, winked and blew him a kiss from the box. Only a moment later, Magnus magically magnified his voice to the stands once more. “Well, I have better places to be and better people to be doing, so this is your commentary team signing off.”
“Bane!”
5. Share or describe a favorite comment you received:
i love all the comments i get, but i remember adoring all the comments i got on trust is a leap of faith, specifically because quite a few people said i’d made them want to watch battlestar galatica. if that’s not a massive compliment then idk what is tbh.
6. A time when writing was really, really hard:
mostly when i wasn’t writing. i had a bit of a hard time getting anything out from about august onwards, and it’s really easy to feel demotivated. i know journey to the past was getting what felt like no reaction when i posted a new chapter, and mustering up the motivation was hard. i have a few fics from that time that are just lying around unpublished because i didn’t really have the confidence to keep going.
7. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you:
i was surprised by how much i enjoyed writing jimon tbh. i’d never really written much of them before this year and i did a few things in march / april time with them that i really truly enjoyed. i’m finding jace hard to write atm but i’m hoping i can maybe dip into other characters outside of my malec & isabelle core at some point!!!
8. How did you grow as a writer this year:
this is definitely the time of my life that i’ve made the most active contribution to fandom fics. i’ve written very odd pieces for other fandoms before, but most of my energy has been on original pieces for a really long time. just messing about with a universe that’s already there for me was really lovely for once, and i’m really proud of everything i managed to publish this year!
9. How do you hope to grow next year:
i definitely want to invest more of my time into longer pieces, which i can update on some sort of schedule. it’s tough because finding the time and energy to actually sit down and write is hard, but i really want to try and get some longer stories out in the new year.
10. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc):
i always love and adore my heart and soul peeps who are there to listen to me cry, help me with my fic and just generally be pillars of support. working with them is a joy and i don’t know where i’d be without them all xoxo
11. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year:
a couple of my clizzy fics were rooted in some very real and personal feelings for me, which was really nice to get out onto the page.
12. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers:
don’t put too much pressure on yourself!! fandom is hard because we all want that validation, but don’t go into things expecting to get 800 kudos, massive comments threads and a bunch of followers. write for yourself first - pick something you enjoy writing and just go for it. experience is absolutely the best teacher.
13. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year:
ahhh well i’m currently working on finishing off journey to the past, and then i’ll be starting on the shaumondays big bang!!! i haven’t completely decided what that’s gonna be yet, but i’m excited to go ahead and start new things and move forward.
14. Tag five writers/artists whose answers you’d like to read.
i’m gonna tag @oneofmanyjonathans, @softmagnusbane, @itsragnorfell, @daddariossmile and anyone else who feels like having a go at this, i hope you have less than 36 fics to work with xoxo

PGA Tour Q-School: Inside the numbers
Tumblr media
PGA Tour Q-School's second stage wrapped up across six venues Saturday, with seven players, who have a some sort of a connection to Manatee County, advancing to the final stage at Orange County National's Crooked Cat and Panther courses Dec. 1-6. Today's recap takes a magnifying glass approach to see just how they continued the quest for a PGA Tour card. There's also a glimpse into how a couple other players' dreams vanished when they flamed out in the final round of their qualifying site. (Note: all have played at least one West Florida Golf Tour event except Tyler Leon, Ty Tryon, David Lutterus and Jason Kokrak) Redstone Golf Club in Humble, Texas (19 players and ties advanced; cut: 2-over, 290) Former Saint Stephen's standout Tyler Leon shot 5-under over his last 54 holes, including birdies on his last two holes, to tie for 11th and secure a final stage berth. Redstone's 73.19 scoring average plagued most of the field, but Leon grinded through with 13 birdies to offset eight bogeys and two doubles. TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas (20 players and ties advanced; cut: 6-under, 282) Two West Florida Golf Tour players advanced from the other Texas venue. Former Lakewood Ranch standout Seath Lauer shot a final-round 71, while former U.S. Open qualifier Travis Hampshire carded a 69 on the last day to advance. Lauer was buoyed by a strong final nine that included birdies on Nos. 10, 11 and 18. Hampshire finished off the tournament with his second sub-70 round. All four of his rounds were under par. Meanwhile, Australian David Lutterus, who is listed from Bradenton, finished in a tie for second. Lutterus stormed out to the 36-hole lead after posting 68-64. He followed that up with 70-71 to earn entry into the next phase.

AFP sustains gains vs Abu Sayyaf, other local terrorist groups
#PHinfo: AFP sustains gains vs Abu Sayyaf, other local terrorist groups
CALOOCAN CITY, Dec. 14 (PIA) -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has neutralized at least 68 members of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) while more than 128 members surrendered in continuous intense military operations this year.
Information from the ground showed that 156 firearms and 10 Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) were also either surrendered by or seized from the said terrorist group.
Recent gains against the ASG include the surrender of two sub-leaders and 13 members in Jolo, Sulu on December 11.
The 1101st Infantry Brigade facilitated the program for the return of ASG sub-leaders Alvin Yusop and Arab Puti and some of their members including 14 assorted firearms to Joint Task Force Sulu
Earlier this month, three ASG members involved in Kidnap for Ransom crimes consecutively yielded to government forces in Tawi-tawi from December 2 to 4.
This include a certain Alsadi Hanain who yielded with his M1 Garand rifle to the 2nd Marine Brigade in Bongao on December 4.
On December 3, Bennaser Pae voluntarily surrendered with an M16A1 rifle and ammunition to Marine Battalion Landing Team-12.
Ugali Alimudin meanwhile submitted himself to the 36 Marine Company at the unit headquarters in Sapa-Sapa and turned-over an M14 rifle with magazine and ammunition on December 2.
Moreover, 36 ASG members presented themselves to the 4th Marine Brigade in Omar, Sulu last December 4. They have with them 11 firearms.
“We are currently satisfied with how our troops are continuing our offensives against the ASG, but this does not mean we’re letting our guards down against them or other local terrorists,” AFP Chief of Staff General Gilbert I. Gapay said.
The military also achieved significant gains against other Local Terrorist Groups (LTGs) this year as armed encounters against the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) led to the death of 31 of their members, while 184 surrendered, and 22 others were captured.
Just last December 8, operating troops of the 40th Infantry Battalion arrested seven members of BIFF nabbed in Datu Hoffer, Maguindanao. Confiscated from their possession were two M1 Garand rifles, one M14 rifle, and one M4 rifle.
Troops also engaged in an encounter with the BIFF on December 9 in Sharif Aguak. The 11th Mechanized Company quelled a possible attack by the BIFF-Karialan Faction under “Diok” and recovered live ammunitions from the enemy position after the firefight.
The 6th Infantry Division clashed with the BIFF in Datu Piang on December 3. The troops on the ground forced the attackers to withdraw leaving civilians unharmed.
Meanwhile, 31 members of Daesh-Inspired Maute Group fall against military troops in combat while 35 of them surrendered and five were captured since January of this year.
General Gapay aims to maintain the AFP’s firm position in combatting the ASG and other terrorist groups despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We will stop at nothing to keep our fellow Filipinos safe and secure from the despicable acts of terrorism and violent extremism. Your AFP, hand in hand with other government agencies, stakeholders and local government units shall continue to unite to ensure the downfall of local terrorist groups threatening our peace,” Gapay said. (AFP PAO/PIA-NCR)

Published: May 13, 2019
It was pure savagery in the desert. Miguel Berchelt defended his WBC super featherweight world title over Francisco Vargas after Vargas retired on his stool following the sixth round of a brawl in front of 4,424 fans at Tucson Arena.   It was the fifth successful title defense for Berchelt (36-1, 32 KOs), who defeated Vargas (25-2-2, 18 KOs) via 11th-round knockout in January 2017 to the win the belt.   “I did what I said I was going to do in the ring," Berchelt said. "More importantly, I want to thank Francisco ‘Bandito’ Vargas. He’s a true Mexican warrior, and more than anything, let me tell you, he gave me my first opportunity at a world title. So, it was only fair that I would give him a shot to win his world title back. But his corner did the right thing in saving him from more punishment.”   “I want to prove that I’m the best 130-pounder in the world. In {two weeks}, it will be Jamel Herring taking on {WBO champion Masayuki} Ito. I want the winner of that fight because I don’t want to leave any doubt as to who the best super featherweight in the world is.”   Said Vargas: I am going to speak with my team, and we’ll see what happens in the future.”
Navarrete KOs Dogboe Emanuel Navarrete did it again. The WBO junior bantamweight world champion defended his title against the man he beat five months prior, Isaac “Royal Storm” Dogboe, via 12th-round TKO. Navarrete won a unanimous decision versus Dogboe (20-2, 14 KOs) in their first meeting last Dec. 8 at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden, and the rematch was more of the same.   At the time of the stoppage, two of the judges had Navarrete ahead 109-99, with the third judge scoring it 109-98.   Navarrete (27-1, 23 KOs) scored knockdowns in the sixth and 12th rounds. Following the knockdown in the 12th, Dogboe’s father and trainer, Paul Dogboe, threw in the towel.   "It really surprised me that he took so many hard shots, but at the same time, he continued to throw strong punches,” Navarrete said. “I want to thank Dogboe because he gave me the opportunity to become a world champion, and now in this second fight, he gave me the opportunity to demonstrate that my first triumph wasn't by accident and that there is a reason why I have the title. And to all the fighters at122 pounds, I tell them that if they want my title, then they can come and try and take it. 'El Vaquero' is here!"   “It’s not over until the final bell. Hats off to Navarrete. He did a great job,” Dogboe said. “Making super bantamweight is getting too difficult. My next fight, I will be moving up to {featherweight}. I will be much more comfortable there."    The CompuBox stats told the story of the bout. Navarrete landed 314 punches, 215 of which were power shots. Meanwhile, Dogboe landed only 121 of 523 punches. In other action: Mykal "The Professor" Fox (20-1, 5 KOs) upset 2016 Olympic gold medalist Fazliddin "Fayzi" Gaibnazarov (7-1, 4 KOs) in a 10-round super lightweight bout, winning by scores of 96-92 2x and 95-93. Fox had a nearly nine-inch height advantage and used his southpaw jab and long arms to his advantage. Phoenix native Carlos Castro (23-0, 9 KOs) defended his WBC Continental Americas super bantamweight belt for the first time, outlasting the game Mario Diaz (18-3, 7 KOs) by scores of 100-89 2x and 98-91. Castro knocked down Diaz in the second round and kept him at bay with his 70-inch reach. “We knew it was a tough fight, and that’s why we prepared so hard for this battle. But this is my title, and no one is going to take it from me," Castro said My next step is to keep working hard and to move closer to a world title shot. I love fighting in front of my home state fans. The fans in Tucson are special.” Former three-time world title challenger Miguel Marriaga (28-3, 24 KOs) kept his hopes for a fourth world title shot alive, knocking out fellow Colombian and late replacement Ruben Cervera (10-2, 9 KOs) following the conclusion of the third round.   Marriaga scored a pair of knockdowns in the second round, while Cervera notched a flash knockdown of his own in the third. Marriaga’s body attack was too much, and Cervera elected to retire on his stool.   "He was a last-minute opponent that came a little heavier than what I'm used to fighting, and that's why I focused on punishing the body,” Marriaga said. “He connected well with a solid punch and I went down, but he didn't hurt me badly. My plan was to punish him with body shots until he did not want to continue and finally he didn't come out to fight following the third round." Super lightweight prospect Miguel Parra (17-1-1, 12 KOs) made short work of David Morales (13-11,13 KOs), as Morales was unable to continue following the first round. Parra has now won eight fights in a row. Tucson native Manny Guajardo (5-0, 0 KOs) kept his unbeaten record alive, edging Jonathan Espino (2-4, 3 KOs) by four-round majority decision (40-36, 39-37 and 38-38) in a middleweight bout.
