From thereon, on the streets of the Barrel, they only ever uttered his new name, fearing that if they called him aloud, he would appear like a vengeful old god, armed with his Saints to do the bidding of a demon. Because names had power, and his became revered – not forgotten anymore, but sacred, only reserved for the worthy.

He was the Wraith, who wasn’t bound by the laws of men. He walked the tightrope of the night, stealing secrets and scaling impossible heights so Hongjoong could reach even higher. What was your 'small' idea for The Night Market?

Gosh it appears I have missed quite a few tense emotions these past days. To jump on the 'love' bandwagon, I just want to say that I fell in love with The Night Market because of the story (you caught me a few times with some unexpected twists!), the characters, and that it is unique in the IF world. I am so so happy there are *no stats* and that I can, instead, choose to go 'left' or 'right' and experience what happens in the world that way. I absolutely adore that your characters have lives and relationships outside of the MC. The MC is the foundation upon which all of them have been able to live these lives and it feels like everyone, including the MC, is just finally recognizing this (except Mal, he's pretty on-the-ball for his condition). It's such a wonderful story dynamic. Gonna M&M simp here for a sec: I'm very excited to see how these two relationships develop around the MC (romance or not). Just so so in love with the juxtaposed dynamics between the one who would protect the Night Market at all costs versus the one who thought they could protect the Night Market by sacrificing it. BTW you cannot convince me that the canonical name for the MC isn't 'Lux'. ;) I'm a mom of one and cannot do the writing I want to do (hubby sleeps on his days off so I never get a break) so I have no idea how you accomplished all this with *four* of your own! You are a Goddess among mothers. I mean that sincerely. You have my adoration and full support. Take all the time you need for edits. I'm fully in the quality over quantity camp. I'd rather a game take the time it needs to be polished and complete over a messy, rushed release. Tying into the above, I remember reading way back that you stated all your ideas start out small. If you remember, what was your 'small' first idea for The Night Market before you started writing for it?

Thank you for your kind words. Especially as another mother. It's something else trying to find time with kiddos underfoot, as you well know. LOL!

Your observation about Mal and Milo made me so excited. That is literally what I have set them up to be and not a lot of people talk about that. These two men have a very similar job when it comes to the Night Market, but their brains work so very differently. It's going to be a lot of fun to write that and see it play out. I think first and foremost, those two have respect for each other, but they rarely attack a problem the same. They were most of the on opposite ends of a job because of that.

As for the small idea. Lanterns. I just loved the idea of a market out there that had lantern light strung between buildings. It stuck out in my mind for months. I even put it in a D&D campaign I was doing at the time with Caliban. And then it just kind of grew from there. But in the end, it was a world that allowed me to throw any time or setting or situation at and see what ended up sticking. Having a nexus point of all realities provides a lot of opportunities to play with.

Du Vide, unless im misremembering, is my only oc with tattoos. They span his entire body, neck to toes, and he did them himself, sewing needle stick n' poke style. I doubt he'd have trusted any one else to ink them.

Since du vide is an upcoming ttrpg character and my fellow players follow me i wont go into detail regarding why he has them by he definitely has them for a reason, relating to his work in experimental machinery/technology. Any good mad scientist tests things on themselves first, obviously.

As for covered up or not, he doesn't make any real effort either way, due to the size of the tattoos. he's usually pretty covered, but he doesn't care if they get seen, theyre not secret. as for why they don't show up in the art usually is because i hate drawing them. weeps

Courtland is a notable character wardrobe-wise because i designed him to be so unredrawable due to my madness

Courtland's wardrobe is relatively large but most of his clothes look the same. The clothes he's wearing up there are his work uniform, so it's what he's usually wearing day to day with a few changes.

however he does have other clothes in line with what you'd expect from an aristocrat, like day clothes, outing clothes, outrageous party clothes, etc. Courtland's got *very* extravagant party clothes. he doesn't get the opportunity to wear them often and isn't very fond of them anyway.

as for when his clothes get fucked up, he's very good at repair. sewing and the like is one of his favorite hobbies!

when it comes to AUs, the one i end up landing on a lot for the earthshakers is the classic "what if it all never happened"/"what if they lived"

theres exactly one post on here (or the art blog i dont remember) explaining what the deal is with purgatory so heres a quick rundown: In the spaces between realities exists a vast, wild, metaphysical plane referred to occasionally as purgatory, which is a roiling melting pot that chews people up and spits them out as fantastic monsters. getting there is extremely difficult, but the hands down easiest way is to die, and fall through a weakness or crack in your reality when transitioning from life to afterlife.

Since the creatures in purgatory are always changing to suit their needs and there is no true ceiling for what can happen to you, occasionally a particularly strong-willed individual will grab unmatched, omnipotent power and become something called an earthshaker, the highest most feared echelon of purgatorian life. not gods, but damn well close. The earthshakers i've designed are Wellium (aka Lux, or the White Light), Videns, and Seleen.

(psa: this is a creative project? headworld? thing? ive been working on for literally upwards of 6-7 years now. I consider it my special interest, but its kind of nebulous and wordy and i get Too Excited about it so i end up rotating it around in my head a lot instead of talking about it)

Each of the three come from wildly different places/settings, and each has a grisly death, leading to their conquering of the endless voidplane. It's a fun thought to think about, about where they'd be if they just never died at all.

Wellium was once a soldier, a test tube baby/experimental weapon used in an intergalatic war. Eventually after a life of training to kill the unfamiliar, her life was considered inconsequential enough to be selected to guide and activate an experimental bomb to attempt to wipe out their enemy. Videns was a child born with select supernatural powers, and out of fear and superstition was drowned in a river by a mob of villagers after a life of living on the run. Seleen, a magician, was born with too much magic, and died when her body couldn't handle the strain anymore.

like. Videns could have found a place where she couldve flourished and been accepted. Seleen couldve pursued other paths in life instead of obsessing over her own impeding death and the use of the very thing that doomed her. Wellium couldve gone home.

their deaths are tragic, but theyre what set them on the path to kinghood and make them the creatures they are now. however, due to the way their universes work, there are realities where they did live, and lived full lives. got the chances to become people. its fun to think about!

still determining details on their parents, but so far, lux doesn’t have the greatest relationship with either of them. with their mother in particular, there’s a lot of resentment in wishing for that sort of maternal comfort and presence instead of her absences.

their friends are predominantly the members of their band, all fun and loyal people who’ve been with them since school, and they have each others’ backs. they try not to think about lovers; they pretend otherwise, but they’re still burned by the breakup with seven, and then there’s the really messy situation of catching feelings for their manager. an ideal partner for them would be someone reliable and responsible, supportive of them without taking their bullshit, and pushes them to be a stronger person, while being able to have fun and shared quiet solitude in equal measure.

Ough good question… but I don't think I have any fun answers for any of my current fics. I wish I were clever enough to insert easter eggs into my writing, but my brain partitions fandom content into specific little boxes that don’t have much interaction between each other

I DO have one Liufang fic that will probably remain unpublished where Sun Jing and Qiu Tong from Tamen de Gushi (她们的故事) have cameos as Bai Zhan and Qian Cao disciples! 

45. What’s something you’ve improved on since you started writing fic?

This is going to sound very funny, but. I have gotten better about sharing my writing lol. Not at autorial things that actually matter, like pacing, or analysis, or rising falling action whatever! I have gotten better at sharing my writing :) 

I write a LOT and I share very little. Mostly because I write solely for an audience of one (1) (me). Most of what I’ve written has never been read by anyone besides me, and probably won’t ever have any kind of audience except for me. And I’m totally okay with that!

Moshang WIP word count to date: 192k (excluding 33k of my forays into Bingqiu and Liushang)

Not bad, actually! (honestly I thought I'd written more lol) Now let’s take a look at my older fandoms

The more I feel like I need to make my own food, the more I tend to write (by god ES21 i am looking at you with wet and pathetic eyes…) and I only publish if I feel like i have something good to contribute. I suffer from an overbearing need for perfection (self-perceived) so if it doesn’t pass my own vibe check/exactingly high standards, I won’t publish it. This means that there are tons of shorter minifics, character interactions, drabbles, AUs etc that simply languish in my docs bc I guess my internal metric for ‘contributes to fandom’ is longfic. I got a little better at sharing my writing with Moshang, mostly because I liked what I had written so much and at the time, it didn’t feel like anyone had done exactly what I wanted to see. Haha perhaps it was only my ego that got bigger, and not my writing skills? :')

ANYWAYS. I would like to try and use my brain more when engaging with things and creating instead of just devouring something and then smashing whatever is in my brains directly onto a doc and being like OOOO WOW!!!! COOL FIC!! I LOVE IT!! MWAH (all themes, motifs, and analysis fly directly over my head and escape like a flock of birds) but also my brainspace is so small and crammed so full of whatever the OTP of the era is that it’s quite difficult for me :’)

46. Do you prefer writing on your phone or on a computer (or something else)? Do you think where you write affects the way you write?

I write almost exclusively on my phone lmao. Lying in bed in the dark, on my phone, on gdocs! 

I edit exclusively on the computer, so any writing that needs to be added at this stage is on the laptop. This is the most grueling part of writing for me and makes me gnash my teeth so much. Editing is so hard and so time consuming and spurs the perfectionist in me like someone kicking a horse into gallop lmao.  

If i didn't write on my phone, i wouldn’t get any writing done, I think. This is also part of why chapter updates take so long. Always bottlenecked at the editing point!

If you wanna make werewolves even more fun, highly recommend tying certain abilities to goals & gameplay rather than just immediately selecting what you want when you can.

For example, I’m not giving Lux the will to resist until she reaches level 3 of both the logic skill and wellness skill. She can’t hunt until she reaches level 5 fitness. I’ve also let gameplay help me navigate what abilities I select; she’s a wildfang through and through but she got in a fight with someone she was friendly with during her 2nd rampage so it made sense for her to want to work harder to really manage things. This also lead her to seek out Kristopher and to eventually become a friend of the Moonwood Collective.. albeit behind Rory’s back, so now there’s an extra little dose of drama thrown in because of the way I’m playing, too.

11. What do they hide from one another?

I'm not really sure that they have stuff to hide from one another and if they do then they probebly won't. Sunfire elves are all about truth and purity and Amaya doesn't hide things (yeah she didn't tell Janai what she wanted to know in the fire-prison but she did tell Janai explicitly how she felt about the whole situation so).

But let's assume they do:

Amaya maybe hiding her sketchbook from Janai. I headcanon that she's just like Callum in that regard. She makes loads of sketches, including some of Janai.

And Janai might have certain.....literature, smutty literature that she doesn't want anyone to find about. Espacially not a certain human general.

21. Where do they get nervous about going with one another?

Janai going with Amaya to a family holiday in the Banther Lodge. At least at first. Because she didn't have a whole lot of family fun time with her family (again, my headcanon). And Amaya.....not sure she does get nervous at all. She just seems so grounded.

24. Where do they first have sex?

Multiple scenarios where this could happen in no particular order:

- Right after the battle of the Storm Spire. They just dissapear from the crowd after Zubeia wakes up and nobody knows where they went. It's not until Gren and Kazi go look for them, only to see them both stumbling into an empty room on the Spire that they know what they're doing.

- After they both have a sparring match. Could either be in Lux Aurea (yeah official lore says it's devastated, but this seems more like a "guideline" than actual rule so) or in Katolis doesn't really matter.

- Imagine this: This would take place in an AU where Amaya's becomes queen regent for a time and Janai visits her. Janai is in Amaya's bedchamber (Harrows old room/bedchamber). She did ask earlier if they could ready a bath for her. They did that, she goes in and just relaxes - front facing the door (strategically placed perhaps?). Soon after Amaya comes through the door, back first. She doesn't see Janai yet. Amaya discards her boots . She turns arround and there is her elf, completely naked in a bathtub in her room. She knew Janai would be waiting for her but she didn't expect this. They sorta enjoy the tension between them for a few seconds until Janai beckons Amaya towards her. Sorta like she did during their second battle. Amaya strolls towards the bathtub, and to Janais suprise. gets in without removing her clothes, leans forward and kisses Janai passionetly. Weeks/Months of build up tension and waiting finally paying off. (This may or may not be a scene from my fic that I will definetely never maybe at some point probably not perhaps continue. Hence why this is so long and kinda thought out)
