Y'know when people talk about characters they had crushes on growing up? Yeah.

As much as I love Star Wars, one aspect of canon that I don’t love is the idea that fear is the path to evil. Don’t get me wrong, fear can and often is manipulated to radicalize people into evil ideologies, but fear by itself is a very human emotion that is morally neutral and often self-protective. Demanding that someone just shut that emotion off is not reasonable.

I realize that Lucas was likely trying to imply that ACTIONS in response to fear CAN make people do horrible things, but this isn’t effectively expressed in a lot of the dialogue, IMO. This created a really clunky mismatch between what Lucas likely meant and what he tried to portray. For example, Luke was fearful, but he CHOSE to resist the Dark Side anyways, which ties into the idea that fear isn’t the issue so much as your response to it, but then you have characters saying things like “fear is the path to the Dark Side”, which suggests that the moment you feel fear, you’d better stop that right now or you’ll become an evil wizard. Now, I understand that Lucas isn’t great at writing dialog, and Star Wars morality tends to be pretty black and white, but I still feel like the theme of processing your emotions in a healthy way and not lashing out at others would be more effective if the detail about actions and choices spurred by emotions being the real issue was also echoed in the dialogue. This is especially true when the characters saying these things are depicted as wise and correct, which would realistically give them a more nuanced view of the issue. Yoda making absolute statements about the nature of fear and evil doesn’t feel realistic, since he’s supposed to be a 900-year-old master of his religion and has probably seen more than enough to conclude that entire emotions aren’t evil.

As a kid with undiagnosed OCD and GAD sitting in the theater, hearing Yoda’s speech to Anakin about how fear makes one evil after a while was pretty upsetting. I was afraid all the time, and I had no way of just switching that off, so according to the logic of that particular bit of dialog, I was well on my way to becoming a Sith Lord.

Hot take, I like the federation lore streams. I love the insights and lives of the NPC’s, because it makes them that much realer to me.

Of course, don’t get me wrong, I’m really confused why they won’t let people on the server and in fact, think they really should get on that before the end of the year, I’m just saying I like the lore streams too.

I want the rp-ing with the members, I want that interaction and development of their characters and for everyone to meet the new eggs and see how their dynamic clashes together, but I also want to see inside the minds of the people running this operation and see how their lives are as well.

I’m selfish I want both lmao.

Even though the plot seems to be getting rushed on both ends, with the islanders being MIA for so long and Elena previously never being mentioned before until now, I still want both of these things to be here by new year.

Hopefully we get the rest of the islanders back before Christmas, and more intel on why Elena exist now and why she’s important but I hope everyone gets what they want and the stories wrap back around nicely. :)
