yknow i was gonna make a post about how happy I was to see the show acknowledge adhd/dyslexia/learning disability stuff and the way they handled and showed Percy's experience with that system, and how it influenced his reactions to things. But i'm honestly glad I didn't because WOW the show completely ditched all of that immediately. There was set-up for a really interesting arc about the demigods = neurodivergence metaphor and "You are singular" (pun off of "half-blood"/"demigod" and a very direct rejection of the "puzzle" metaphor for things like autism) and a very quick acknowledgement in like episode 2 of an off-hand "oh yeah all demigods are like that (adhd/dyslexic)" and then. nothing. absolutely nothing.

heck, they even changed the design of the zoo van (in the books very explicitly a black van with white text, which Percy notes specifically because white-on-black text is more dyslexia-friendly) which is a personal affront to me because That's My Dyslexia-Friendly Van, How Dare You.

i know some people have argued that maybe Annabeth pausing in the store was supposed to be her having a dyslexia moment, but if it was then we would have gotten the Dyslexia Effect™ on the text (and dont tell me they didn't have the budget for it cause HAVE YOU SEEN THEIR BUDGET FOR THE SHOW? They clearly haven't been using all of that). It's almost definitely supposed to show that Annabeth hasn't been in mortal spaces in a very long time and is, yknow, a kid, being indecisive of which snacks to buy.

i have said it before and i'll say it again: the core of PJO is disability. You can never remove that, or else it is no longer PJO. The heart of the series will always be a story made for an ADHD/dyslexic kid to help them learn about and be interested in mythology, and if you stray from that it's going to be very noticeable very fast. Almost every character in PJO has a learning disability. The entire series is framed as a way to introduce kids to mythology in a fun way and emphasize those themes of mythology being important even in modern day with how it still affects our lives, to ask you to look at what lessons we can still learn from these myths and how they apply to modern lives, and that you can be a hero not despite your disability, but alongside it. That is the core of PJO, always and forever. And the show failed that.

Some Headcanons 2/3 Jinx. Hoo boy, Jinx, here we go - some TW/s for mental illness, suicidal ideation, self-harm, she's a mess, our girl...

In Ill-Omen's Light, Jinx vanished for a year after firing her Super Mega Death Rocket at the Piltover council.

Her disappearance coincided with the outbreak of the Piltover/Zaun independence war triggered by her attack on the Council.

During this period, Jinx used the chaos of the war raging around her and her own intimate knowledge of the labyrinths of Zaun to slip in and out of the conflict, killing and stealing whenever she wanted to keep herself alive and rub out anyone chasing her, including vengeful Enforcers, Silco's emboldened rivals, and anyone seeking her out for the copious bounty on her head.

By the time the war resolved itself, Jinx had become something of an urban myth, a living cryptid and figure of legend and terror lurking in the Underground and spoken of in whispers or in jest.

Jinx was NOT in a good mental space during this period, keeping almost entirely her own company, falling deeper into her hallucinations and internal spaces, developing even deadlier weaponry, and surviving mostly on loneliness and spite.

The one exception was Ziggs, whom she met early in the civil war and formed a fast - if volatile - friendship based on a mutual love of explosions and the fact she mistook him for a figment of her imagination and kidnapped him for a month to serve as her 'conscience'.

Ziggs tagged along on several of Jinx's adventures, mostly to try to minimalize casualties. Despite a bit of ongoing trauma from having been kidnapped by a mostly feral Jinx and witnessing a lot of her atrocities firsthand, Ziggs has a deep affection and concern for his friend and worries for her when she isn't looking after herself.

Due to the age and species gap, Ziggs sees himself as a kind of 'cool uncle' figure to Jinx ( and is pretty mortified when Jinx later hits him with the TMI about her budding relationship with Lux.)

After a month or two of friendship, Jinx found her intrusive thoughts - her 'scratchies' - telling her to hurt or kill Ziggs more and more often and pushed him away.

The rest of Jinx's time was spent sinking further and further into her, er, 'Gollum arc', sometimes dissociating for days alone in her lairs, before, over time, slowly pulling herself out of it on sheer willpower, spite - and the underestimated power of her boredom.

Eventually, Jinx's volatile thoughts resolved into a new plan; call Vi out to one final fight, see her one last time, and finish things once and for all, going out together the way they came in.

In preparation for this, she interred the dummies representing Mylo and Claggor and prepared to face her last hurrah... ...whereupon her path crossed unexpectedly with a runaway Demacian, in Ill-Omen's Light.

Jinx has a lot of skills an aptitudes, as we've seen in League and Arcane; Genius inventor, skilled at close quarters combat with a nimble, unpredictable, almost inhumanly flexible fighting style now greater enhanced by her Shimmer infusion.

Singed's experiment to save Jinx's life used a rare Shimmer variant that had the unexpected outcome of permanently infusing itself itself into her system; she doesn't have the brute super strength of the more hulk-like Shimmer mutants, but she does have enough to lift Vi's gauntlets unaided and she's extremely fast and agile. Her senses are heightened, particularly hearing and smell, and she can see in pitch darkness. She also recovers quickly from all but the most serious injuries (she's annoyed that she doesn't scar easily anymore because scars are cool).

Her blood, as shown in Ill Omen's series, does have healing properties similar to the potion used in Vi in Act 2 of Arcane; however, as it's a potent Shimmer variant, it has nasty side effects if taken in any quantity.

Jinx is very sensory and smells, particularly human smells, are partly how she confirms her reality; if she can touch or smell someone they might be more real than her hallucinations.

Jinx is very touchy-feely, partly as above to confirm her reality, but also because she loves poking, prodding, climbing on people and getting in their spaces because it unnerves them and throws them off guard.

Sex and romance aren't things she really understands, though; Jinx falls somewhere on the gray-ace spectrum in terms of her sexuality, being mostly disinterested in sex (she's seen things, she grew up down the street from a brothel, but she mostly thinks it's weird and funny) but having very visceral, pleasurable reactions to gunfire and explosions that straddle the line between spiritual and sexual in nature for her.

She does, in some way, see Lux as a 'living explosion' personifying the beauty she sees in destructive power, partially explaining her physical attraction to Lux, which Jinx herself is still figuring out.

Jinx is just as inexperienced as Lux is, having had few opportunities and little interest in exploring relationships - in no small part to Silco being a loving but overprotective (and terrifying) parental figure. As Jinx herself puts it, nobody in his circles would touch her with a barge pole out of fear of both Silco and Jinx herself....

Not unjustified fear.

Lightcannon are both just dorks figuring themselves out, really.

So i was scrolling through the drew tanaka tag as one does and found this post by @curseofdelos that i was like !!!!! about, and i read through it and I was like. Yes, but also…

So this is my also. I suggest reading the post first as it does very well in explaining the issues with Piper and Drew’s writing and why that’s harmful.

But I’d like to take it a step further and extrapolate to the bigger picture of cabin 10.

What about the boys?

TL;DR: There are a lot of in-text and meta negotiations of masculinity versus femininity that occur in /influence PJO/HOO, and that leaves boys in the Aphrodite Cabin in an awkward limbo.

Before we get into the nitty gritty, I first want to establish that masculinity is not femininity. Which like, duh, but that means that anything that is not masculine can and will be considered feminine. Point blank, no nuance (There is a literature backing, but I think its a bit too much, so I’ll just put it at the end if you wanna find the article I’m referring to).

And that’s what Rick is operating on, while you can’t deny it is a spectrum, at the time of writing TLH and such, there was a general societal understanding of masculinity as being macho and strong and rejecting softness for hardcore or whatever. And this positioning is where femininity comes in, and where we can begin to talk about Cabin 10.

Rick writes Cabin 10 as inherently feminine, thus attaching “beauty” to this narrow idea; best shown through describing the cabin as a Barbie house and Piper's claiming ordeal. It is a place where there is nothing “masculine,” leading to the stereotype of Aphrodite kids not being able to fight, since war is masculine and thus out of their purview.

This does deconstruct with Silena and then Piper, but the existence of Drew proves that it is still upheld and important enough to the story.

I do believe that Rick tried to have his “oh you can still be feminine without being hyper feminine!” moment with Piper & Drew’s conflict, however, he failed to give Drew enough agency to make it seem like there was a genuine conflict rather than just “mean girl v girl-next-door.” (again, @curseofdelos explained it very well, go read!).

Now with the girls out of the way, the boys are kinda… lost in the sauce? The only Aphrodite boy we get is Mitchell and it is very telling that a lot of people hc him as gay… which again is the posturing of masculinity vs femininity and whatever is not masculine is therefore feminine. And being gay is being attracted to masculinity and this feminine etc etc (according to societal norms). The fact that he is the only male Aphrodite kid rep is again, telling and really affirms the inherent femininity of Cabin 10.

“Hey! He’s not the only ‘Aphrodite’ Kid! What about Michael!” And Michael just further proves my point! He’s the son of Venus, and Roman counterparts are considered as more “warlike” than their Greek ones. War being considered masculine and a rejection of femininity, as established earlier w/ Cabin 10 kids not being warriors. Now, Micheal exists as a (hyper) masculine counterpoint to Drew’s (hyper) feminine, making the Roman Venus a direct opposite as the Greek Aphrodite.

This is actually, kinda commendable in terms of plot, since it helps reinforce the differences between Greek and Roman and how extreme they were. Great storytelling device, bad everything else.

One more thing I want to touch on is the vilification of femininity, and why it must be rejected in the pjo/hoo. You can only fight if you adopt masculine traits, and therefore not fighting and still surviving means that you are doing something dishonorable like, abusing charmspeak (Drew) or using magic (Circe, Medea, etc) or even spying (Silena). Which is a very masculine idea, of how things should be solved by violence ( i mean, look at violence perpetrated by men compared to women in our society…) I think I’ve said this before, but in Piper’s arc, there needs to be an antagonist to prove how she doesn’t “fit in” at CHB, and create that tension of her either choosing to save her father and betray or continue the quest as is; and that antagonist ended up being Drew, and that makes sense bc Cabin 10 is against what Piper is characterized as, and she just is a rejection of that femininity.

Anyways, let me not get away from myself. Basically, within the story, there is no real opportunity for the characters to reject gender stereotypes without falling into others. And Rick wrote himself into that hole.

i played Look what you made me do in class today because we were talking about international women's day and hoo lawdy lawd, people lost their minds and wasted absolutely zero seconds in tearing her down with the most pointless of arguments, like

"i really don't like her at all!" "she uses her private jet a lot!" "she is the worst female artist and role model, and she's only a big artist now because her parents are rich and paid for her success!"

and boy howdy let me tell you i just had to clench my jaw so hard and smile and get through it all because it was like 4 people against me suddenly and none with me and i was just really feeling the misogyny in this classroom today.

she uses her private jet a lot? more than all the other male billionaires of the world? more than all the male billionaires who can afford to pay probably a lot of people to make sure their private jet useage isn't even showing up in articles, if they even have the jets in their own name that is? you really don't like her at all? wow strong use of the most convincing argument ever made there pal. wow you really think her parents having money is a direct factor of her making the most banging songs out there, that are enjoying by millions? it can't be that she has any skills of her own? it can't be that you've swallowed the whole misogyny bait that's floating around in your corner of the internet? wow you say you really don't like her at all and it can't be that that's completely unrelated and biased and you probably haven't examined it any further, you've just decided on this opinion due to eating up all the negative takes that are out there while having done zero actual education about her, and WOW the whole private jet thing is something very clearly know actual facts and numbers about but do you know any numbers about literally anyone else with a private jet or have you just unknowingly decided on hate and misogyny?

However nice you tried to be to the anon asking you about Karolina... You actually don't sound that nice. I get YouTube not being your medium. I get being wary of the medium. At the same time, you immediately dismiss ALL content based entirely on the medium of choice, and in the same breath you imply that the only way of being a historian--especially a professional one as you call it--is within academia.

I get that you're proud of your degrees. I get you put a lot of work into this. At the same time, this is exactly the kind of thinking that limits academia because there's zero openness to any other form of exploring history, immediately invalidating research people do because of your notions which may or may not be true in a general sense but which are actually fucking horrific to read on a tumblr of someone trying to enthuse people about history. Why should you take anyone without a PhD in history seriously while they explain something? Apparently we shouldn't.

I get that this probably isn't your intent in the message but it IS how I am reading it and it raises my hackles so so bad. Not in the least because yknow, you have an audience/spread historical facts on a website that also spreads plenty of misinformation.

Besides that, your response implies that academic historians don't make mistakes while there are plenty of ACADEMIC historians who ALSO perpetuate gross misrepresentations of history. Someone doesn't need a PhD to be historically accurate, and someone with a PhD can be inaccurate.

It's fine to not watch YouTube. But really, sometimes less is more and it's maybe better to swallow your personal disdain for the entire medium when someone asks about a youtuber/historian because right now you're shitting on anyone who makes yt videos and anyone who watches them, placing yourself above it with your fancy schmancy phd and frankly coming off as more than a bit entitled. Yikes!

Hoo boy. I guess it's Aggressive Bad Faith Misinterpretation Day. Sigh.

I personally was very clear that the medium was not for me, but there was absolutely value in it for people who chose to engage that way. I am amused that you think you need to leap in and lecture me about the problems within my own discipline, as if I don't know about them? Trust me! I know! I have a whole literal tag of people, including me, complaining about academia and why it is stupid!

I am not "shitting on anyone who makes YT videos and anyone who watches them." Once again, I was clear as could be that this was not my personal cup of tea, but there was value to the medium for other people, and I was unlikely to rely on/seek it out for myself, because that is not the level at which I do history and therefore it would not be useful. Everything else is what you're reading into it and then accusing me. Have a nice day.

I live 24/7 in the larycent tag… How do you think an ongoing secret relationship (wether romantic or sexual) between the two of them would go? Or how it would work? What about public courting or a non-secret relationship? I know that one’s tougher but… Gimme your thoughts 👀

Larys totally puts the tools given to him as spy master, Lord Confessor, and also as a warg — yeah, this has been implied so much now and it would make sense since 1. In F&B we know very little of him to the point where it's likely he had a hand in that 2. It's not unbelievable that the Maesters would erase any mention of magic beyond to revile people and Larys is such an enigma that he was probably never on their radar — to good use to make sure no one finds out they are banging on the side, and if it weren’t for the fact that the entire staff has been whispering about the Queen having over the Lord Confessor on quite many days, it might really have been the world's best kept secret.

Alicent has gotten her whole public image of being the virtuous and pious Queen so that is her alibi. And, of course, given Larys's public persona as the quiet effeminate second son who wears pretty clothes, is certainly seen in a negative light because of his disability, and has never been able to do any traditionally masculine things, hell, part of the rumours might even be that he's not even into women and a "pervert".

But a public courting, in a world where she's not Queen and just Lady Alicent Hightower? Hoo boy.

They connect in a similar way they do in canon: both of them outsiders, ignored by the world - and Alicent in different ways, since she might not be Queen anymore, but she's still a popular bachelorette and the most beautiful maiden in the Seven Kingdoms!

Them actually being an item because they are on the same wavelength and feel good with the other would certainly seen as odd and no doubt they'd get a lot of pushback. Lyonel I see as very surprised that his "lesser" son and not Harwin has struck up a friendship with the Lady Alicent and that they fancy each other's company and not be against it but also fully aware that this shouldn't be — while Otto would feel it's an insult to him, his daughter, and his house, forbidding her to see him and maybe even purposefully arranging Alicent to get married to someone else.

But of course, Larys is far from powerless and could find ways for them to meet in secret, the fucking castle has a maze of secret passages, so its not like anyone can stop him at least?

They'd certainly be seen as Westeros's most unlikeliest couple so far, because of the perceived oddity of "Hottest Woman In The Known World" and "Lord Clubfoot The Hideous" and also because, what a shocking revelation, they hang out because they get along, not because there's an arranged betrothal!!! Relationships among high profile nobles in Westeros born from affection/love are comparatively rare and even those tend to end in tragedy (just think of Rhaegar and Lyanna), and god knows whether it could work out!

Larys has a hereto unknown plan that he sticks to, so it might very well be that we see Alicent pulling a Jaime/Criston and tells Larys they ought to elope so they could be happy in a place where no one cares about who they are and also gets rejected. Or maybe it works out just fine — whatever happens, we will always have fanfiction to play in our sandbox 🥲💖

hi there! I'm relatively new(ish) to tumblr and was looking to make my own "bot" via a long queue, and was wondering if you could give me any tips? I'm not super familiar with the queue system, so any advice you can give me would be good! Thank you!

it's an honor to be your tutorial npc :D i will do my best to walk you through the "bot"-making process/queue system!

first of all: this is how many posts are currently in this blog's queue.

this is a kind of insane amount. i believe i started this bot with....700 posts in the queue? and then just kinda kept adding on more? a lot will depend on how often you want your bot to post. at the current number of posts in my queue and the current schedule of 4 posts a day, it could run for 231 more days without running out of quotes! if i bumped it down to twice a day, it could run for over a year!

what i'd probably recommend doing is adding posts in batches of, like, 20 at a time, and keeping the post amount low until you get up to a number where you feel okay just letting it run for a while without adding anything new. then just put new stuff in whenever you want!

but how do you do the "adding stuff in" part? great question! this is the part where we segway into the mechanics of the queue! this is also the part where i put a readmore because hoo BOY this got long. i am prone to overexplaining lmao

tl;dr: find the queue, make the posts, set times for posting and amount of posts per day, use mass tag editor to do tags, and shuffle queue!

the queue is one of tumblr's most special functions, imo. it will automatically put out a certain amount of posts every day between certain hours-- basically like scheduling tweets, except that the site schedules them for you! some people on tumblr actually queue basically every post they see rather than reblog it-- i call them "queuetuals" :P

Step 1: find the queue

so! first you go to your blog controls, where you can view posts and follower counts from, and then look down. under "drafts" is a section called "queue". hit that, it'll take you here.

[ID: The Tumblr "queue" page. Up at the top is a text box that reads "The queue lets you stagger posts over a period of hours or days. It's an easy way to keep your blog active and consistent. Automatically publish a queued post (dropbox with 4 selected) times a day between (dropbox with 12 am selected) and (dropbox with 12 am selected) Timezone: US/Eastern (change) Note: This timezone only affects the queue schedule, as well as timestamps on custom themes. The publish times on posts below are displayed in your local timezone." It then shows a Shuffle Queue button and the icon of this blog next to the icons and text for making text, photo, quote, link, chat audio, and video posts. End ID.]

FUN FACT: hitting the text (or whatever kind of post it is you want to make) button from here will automatically set the button that usually says "post now" to "add to queue" instead. i found this out like halfway into making all these posts and it was so helpful to not have to make the switch manually every time. i now pass this knowledge on to you, my protege. use it in good faith. okay where were we

Step 2: make the posts

right. okay . so you hit button you make post you hit other button (make sure it does say "add to queue") and it will automatically be put in your queue!

now just do that like 100 more times and you're set :) (highly recommend, if you're going to be making a text bot like this, writing all the stuff you want to put in down in a text file so you can just copypaste over. i write new lyrics like the above in manually, but i was copypasting for my first couple big chunks)

you can also see up there the places to adjust when and how often your "bot" posts! i have it set to between 12 and 12 so it just posts day-round, but if you want to set it to only post while you're awake or only while you're asleep, that's cool (i did do that for a bit)

from this screen down you'll be able to see what's coming up next in the queue and at what times it'll post!

Step 3: tags and shuffling!

while i was insane enough to manually input over 700 posts in a few days, i was not insane enough to tag them all individually. for that, i used the Mass Post Editor!

found at the very bottom of the list that posts, followers, queue, etc. is on is a little item called Mass Post Editor. this is one of tumblr's other most helpful functions and i truly cannot recommend it enough.

so once i've gotten all the lyrics from a song that i want to get in there, i go in to MPE. up at the top it says "published, draft, queued". go to queued, i select all the quotes from the song i just put in:

i go up top, i select "add tags", and i add the tags i want for those posts! boom! mass tagging: SOLVED.

i will add here that the reason my tags are stuff like "lyric - green day" rather than just "green day" is because i don't want these posts to go directly into the main tag. especially if the bot posts often, it'd be pretty spammy and kind of annoying for people trying to look at posts about green day to have to keep seeing random green day lyrics instead. tag etiquette is important!

and the last tip i will give (i promise) is this: remember that screenshot from earlier and the shuffle queue button? whenever you add in new posts to your bot, especially if they're all from the same song or book or something, make sure to hit the shuffle queue! queueing something automatically puts it at the end of the queue, and shuffling ensures that your new posts are equally distributed and can come up whenever!

hope this was helpful!!! i love explaining stuff but also get very very wordy at times, so if you need a tl;dr version or further explanation of something let me know! oh-- and if you're gonna do quotes, lyrics, art, or anything at all, always credit the original creators!

Mfl has resonated with me in a way no other writing has, your creativity, thought process and way with words is just something so unique and incredible and will stay with me forever. Mfl was the first piece of content on here I have ever really interacted with, before that I was too nervous to do anything but the occasional ask and 1 to 2 tags, without this series, your encouragement and kindness, I wouldn't have come out of my shell as much, and wouldn't have started talking to and met so many amazing people (looking at u raven and lis), including, and especially you. and now look!!! Hoo boy, all aboard the angst train today.

It’s a fairly common trope in Narumitsu fics - Edgeworth has Emotions about his dead father. Common, but always good for a nice angst fest. Also it’s ripe for some great hurt/comfort. How Miles deals with his (very very repressed) emotions varies from fic to fic. This one is one of my personal favorites.

It’s mostly Edgeworth mentally angsting for roughly three-quarters of the narrative before the comfort part of this hurt/comfort story comes in (in the form of Phoenix Wright, naturally). It has a good, believable catalyst too - it’s Miles’ birthday and he’s now older than Gregory was when he died. That’s the kind of thing that could send anybody reeling. Especially if you’re as emotionally guarded as Edgeworth usually is.

There’s a moment in this where Edgeworth wonders about a possible alternate timeline where instead of Gregory dying, it’s Manfred von Karma, and instead of von Karma taking in an orphaned Miles Edgeworth, in this version it’s Gregory taking in and raising Franziska von Karma as his own. The narration says “[Miles] would have willingly died for that possibility alone.” You and me both, Miles! I’ve not read an AU like that, but now I’ve never needed anything in my life more, lol. There are several lines in this fic that just kind of punched me in the chest. In a good way. Stuff like “He looks at Miles with softened features, a grin that is fond and earnest and eyes that hold oceans of love, for him.” And also: “and he can see in those eyes the moment Phoenix understands everything.” Don’t know why, but they just pluck my heartstrings like a harp. And then… the comfort. Lord, the comfort in this one. It’s simple, sweet, and exactly what Miles (and the reader!) needs.

Absolutely lovely.

Next Week: let’s dip our toes into some Game of Thrones fic, shall we? Specifically the wonderful ship that is Jaime x Brienne. Their romance lends itself well to both canon compliant stories and creative AUs. This fic is the latter, a lovely modern AU featuring brief moments in their developing love story. i just saw somebody do this and it made me want to do it as well. For me, these headcanons are largely subject to the AU that I'm writing or the version of canon that I'm working with (PJO versus HoO versus ToA etc. etc.) so some of these may contradict!!!! and that's okay baby we love them anyway. the idea is from @/s3okj (I'm not entirely sure if they're okay with being tagged). Also this got really long so I'm putting the actual HC under the cut SORRY

(some of) my lgbt pjo/hoo headcanons

Percy: bisexual almost always, though he also fluctuates between being aromantic/asexual or some blend therein. I also tend to hc that he forms really close, non-romantic bonds with people that are often misconstrued as romantic (Grover, Piper, Nico, etc. etc.) but that he is polyam which makes it fun when he's trying to explain who is his boyfriend/girlfriend versus his nonromantic partner.

He uses he/him pronouns more often than not, but sometimes he winds up with he/they pronouns (or even he/they/she pronouns) in AUs where he leaves camp for some time to himself and meets some mortals. I think that if asked, he would describe himself as genderqueer/genderfluid. I do usually headcanon him as AMAB.

Annabeth: I almost always hc her as biromantic asexual. That is in part because I hc the Athena cabin in general to have a predilection for asexuality ngl. I HC that she doesn't necessarily identify as polyam, but that she is okay with being in a polya relationship, she just only tends to keep maybe one or two romantic partners herself in that case.

This one is actually very new in that I've not used it in any writing yet, but now I hc that she is a trans girl and uses she/her pronouns.

Grover: TBH I don't write him as much as I should, considering. I would say he's...biromantic but heterosexual? I think? That's kind of where I'm leaning, I think that he labels himself that way but that he's only really ever had a crush on one boy, and then he met Juniper and it was game over for him.

Again, I've never really written him, so I haven't had time to develop any "non-canon" HC for his gender. In my head he's a cis male who uses he/him pronouns.

Thalia: I love hc Thalia as aroace but with a tendency to form QPRs with people because of her feelings of being abandoned by her mom. I think that she cares really really deeply for people, but that she's never really experienced what people always describe as "love".

Thalia in my mind is very "just call me whatever you want to call me", but she DOES like when people pull out the non-she pronouns. I hc her as a cis female.

Nico: My boy! Nico to me is homosexual but biromantic. sometimes he's biromantic asexual (can you see a trend with these so far hm it's almost like I ~project~) but more often than not he's allo. I think he just loves so much sometimes that he doesn't really know what to do with himself (he's polyam in my HC as well which I think he'd be scared of), not to mention the fact that he wasn't really raised in a way that let him explore identities etc. I think that he doesn't realize he's biromantic because he didn't realise that the way he experiences romantic attraction could be different from the way he experiences sexuality (I also HC that either Will or Percy is the one who taught him the language to differentiate). OH AND HE'S ALMOST ALWAYS DEMISEXUAL!!! I nearly forgot about that one.

He is the one who flip flops most consistently between being trans and cis, it really genuinely just comes down to the story I'm telling at the time. He goes by he/him no matter what, he finds they/them pronouns uncomfortable (for himself) but is more than happy to help his friends experiment with pronouns.

Will: now THIS BOY. is truly the most unpredictable he could be really just any thing in any given story (except straight, normally he's not straight). I think that he really enjoys the blanket term "queer" and feels very comfortable with that as his label. He's almost never aro/ace, but he'd be comfortable in a relationship with an ace person. I do hc him as polyam sometimes.

He is almost always a trans man in my writing, even if it's not explicitly or implicitly stated. He uses he/they pronouns, though the "they" days are pretty rare and he will tell people if that's his preferred pronoun that day. He also has an ATROCIOUS sense of fashion (that's not a gender/sexuality hc I just think it's funny to dunk on him).

Piper: Another very recent addition to my average HC, but I do see her as biromantic. I think that she'd identify as asexual, but that she's like "Eh" about it, like she's fine either way, she just uses the label kind of as a way to say "I probably won't ever initiate this kind of thing". I also HC that she doesn't realize that she's ace until after her relationship with Jason. I do also think she has a preference for women, but is okay dating men too.

I get very she/they lesbian vibes from Piper. She identifies as nonbinary and LOVES playing with fashion as a means to express herself. I think that she and Percy are fucking killer at coming up with GNC outfits for one another.

Jason: oh, another one of my BOYS okay. So Jason is another one of those ones that kind of fluctuates a lot depending on the story I'm telling. I think I'd say that like Nico, he's homosexual but biromantic, but with WAY more of a penchant towards aro/ace vibes. He's almost always demisexual, and I think he struggles a lot with his attraction to women - I think that he'd feel like a horrible person for a while after he figures out that he's romantically but not sexually attracted to women, because he gets it in his head that that means he's misogynistic/inherently abusive somehow. I tend to HC that he's always known that he was attracted to men but he's always ASSUMED that he was attracted to women as well, and that's where his views of himself get challenged the most, in his relationship with Piper. I also hc him as polyam, but very selectively so - he would only be okay with dating a select few people. He wouldn't mind if his partner had other partners, though.

For a long time Jason was just a cis he/him male in my head, but recently I've been persuaded to the HC that he's trans. I think that it's another thing he's just always known about himself though, like ever since he was a little kid he's always known that he's a boy. Most of the time when I write him he's still cis, but in more of my recent stuff (and hockey AU) he's trans.

Frank: Again, I don't really write Frank as much as I should, considering. I think that he's never really put much thought to his identity, but that he wouldn't necessarily call himself straight either. He's not necessarily asexual, but he's not entirely not, either, and it's kind of the same for his romantic attraction - he's not necessarily into people, but at the same time, he does on occasion "catch feelings" for people (like Leo or Hazel). I think that he's very comfortable existing in his definitively grey-area. I think when someone asks what he is, he says, "I dunno," shrugs, and moves on.

I get cis male he/him vibes, but again, I haven't written much of his character, so that could change. I do think the idea of him identifying as agender could be interesting, like maybe sometimes when he shifts animal forms he's not a male animal and he feels the same way when he's in his human form. That could be interesting.

Leo: here's a fucking doozy. Leo is the most homophobic bisexual guy you will ever meet /hj he's like. So unaware of his attraction to men that he circles around to being weird and an asshole about it, like he's trying so hard to not see that part of himself that he shits on attraction to males in general, all while drooling over his best friend's biceps on the reg. So I DO think that he's bisexual (sometimes he's even just flat out gay) but it would take a pretty drastic thing to happen for him to realize it.

This dude made attack helicopter jokes until Jason or Nico dropped it on him that he's trans one day fr fr. Leo is such that eighth grade bully kind of vibe in my head when it comes to sexuality and gender, he's the kid who's soooo repressed and in the closet that he lashes out at any hint of the LGBT just so people will never attempt to associate it with him. I do think that once he gets his head out of his ass about it, he would identify with he/him pronouns (and privately use it/its pronouns with Festus, though I feel like that's more of him being a downer on himself and removing his own humanness on the days when he's feeling particularly Disconnected from people, ala the Tism. This is not to say that I view it/its pronouns as dehumanizing, I just think that that's how Leo would use them against himself, does that make sense?). So yeah, Leo's an asshole cis male he/him "I don't use pronouns" typa guy /j.

Hazel: I think that she's pretty solidly straight and allo in my mind, but she's also the kind of person who is VERY close to her female friends, to the point that it's sometimes misconstrued as attraction. I think that she's just a very physically affectionate, friendly kind of person and that that reads, in some situations, like she's coming on to people. I do think that's she's very well read on LGBT stuff, and that she kind of was even before Nico came out to her, like I feel as if during her time at Camp Jupiter no matter how limited it was, she discovered some myths with LGBT topics and it FASCINATED her.

She would experiment with pronouns all the time, but I think that she's, at the end of the day, a cis she/her female. I do like to think she's comfortable with any pronouns though, and will sometimes introduce herself with he/him pronouns around kids he suspects might be trans.

Reyna: Reyna is yet ANOTHER character I don't do enough with. I think that she's very firmly aro/ace but that she's constantly at war with herself over the aro part of it, because she experience very very deep platonic bonds with people, like Jason. She's convinced that that is romantic love, even though if anyone asked if she wanted to marry Jason/kiss Jason etc. etc. she'd immediately say no. I think she would eventually settle on idenifying as an asexual lesbian and then just never date anybody ever.

For some reason, I do see Reyna as trans. I think that maybe she didn't realize until on Circe's island or something (i can't remember enough of her canonical past rn to really piece together a proper headcanon) but that she is a trans female who uses she/they pronouns.

Rachel: I guess I kind of have no HC for Rachels sexuality? I'd say ace, because of the whole oracle thing, but I also believe that that was just a copout for Riordan to not have to pursue a love triangle with her anymore so fuck that at the same time. I just think that Rachel is Rachel and she's doing whatever the hell she wants to in that funky cave of hers.

I can see her being genderfluid for some reason, maybe the whole artsy side we see during the canonical books. I just like genderfluid characters alright, sue me.

A random headcanon: he hasn't been to the cabin since everything that went down in the ice storm, but he still doesn't want to sell it. he's got a neighbour who checks in occasionally to make sure it hasn't been trashed, and the 126 are free to borrow it whenever they want, but Owen can't bring himself to go back. at least, not yet. he isn't quite sure what's stopping him.

General Opinion over said character: he definitely wasn't my fave at first, but he's grown on me a lot (especially in s3 when we finally got some goddamn backstory for our main character). the fandom in general is far too harsh on him. yeah he fucks up, but at least give the guy the benefit of the doubt and stop taking the least-charitable reading of every single thing he does

Gender Headcanon: cis

A random headcanon: since she worked at the 126 before having the twins, she worked with Billy Tyson for many many years, and nobody can obliterate Billy quite the way she can. everybody knows Grace can put Billy in his place but not everybody realizes it's cause Grace learned from the master

General Opinion over said character: she fucking Kicks. Ass. i dunno what it is about the 911 franchise but they consistently replace a character in s2 with an infinitely superior version and hoo boy is that ever Tommy

When I was rambling about my blorbos the other day, I described something as "kinky from a meta perspective" and I think that's an important concept to understand

Like, let's say a character is being restrained and actively trying to escape. In-universe, there's nothing kinky about that because no one is engaging in BDSM pretend-play here. It's real. It's not consensual. But you know who is in fact engaging in pretend-play?

We, the audience. And, regardless of whether they were thinking of it as kinky or not at the time, everyone who contributed to the creation of the story such as writers, directors, actors etc.

Unlike actual BDSM roleplay, we're all doing this separately. Each person involved in the creative process, as well as each viewer/reader, may have completely different interpretations and intentions, some of them perfectly innocent. We're not all doing an actual scene together, gods forbid.

But nevertheless, it's still pretend. It's still play. You can absolutely describe a character's experiences as kinky even though they do not engage in literal kink in-universe.

And when you're reading something where you know the author wrote it that way on purpose, as is often the case with fanfic, it is a little bit as if you consented to letting them help you RP in your head the moment you saw the tags and summary and decided to start reading.

The characters aren't people. They're neither consenting nor not consenting because they're not doing anything. They're being described for your benefit, in this act of pretend-play between you and the author. Which is why it does not matter if consent is sometimes not made explicit between the characters, and why you're not a bad person if you enjoy a story where kinky shit happens despite a glaring lack of pre-scene negotiation.

Now, can such things be jarring to encounter unexpectedly? Sure. It feels especially bad when you get the sense that the author had no idea they were describing an unhealthy dynamic. Yuck. And of course, explicit consent can greatly improve a story! More people should write about healthy, realistic kink imho.

But if you can understand that some people enjoy roleplaying things like being restrained against their will, then perhaps you can also understand that reading about characters being restrained against their will is essentially the same process?

I didn't get it until a few years ago tbh. This roleplaying analogy suddenly came to me one day and finally I understood how people could enjoy things that always broke my immersion. By now I even enjoy a number of these things myself. 🤷🏻‍♂️

And when it comes to visual media, hoo boy. That's on a whole other level. The kinky atmosphere of the scene can affect you before you've had time to get a single thought in. Maybe, on rewatch, you'll even be convinced that the director and at least one of the actors knew exactly what they were doing. It's fine to have fun with stuff like that!

I feel like this can be a difficult concept to wrap one's mind around, even if you don't have my unfortunate tendency to take things too literally combined with lack of education about media analysis. I got there eventually, but I regret the judgemental thoughts I used to have before I understood.

There will also be mentioned attempted sexual assault in this post. Only this one and I will not be describing it. It will be framed by danger triangles.

There is also a lot of swearing in most of my post honestly, but I never and will never use slurs.

Hoo boy, it's been a minute, huh?

Does it look like the quality in this is very different from the stuff I've been posting? Well it should because it has been two years since I've given you one of these character origins. I'm actually in the process of refining the characters for the first chapter, as well as attempting to make a prologue for this. Emphasis on attempting lmao

ANYWAYS, this is Violet, aka Vee! I love her so much just as much as I love her girlfriend (eventual). Vee was a famous singer in this not earth. She was known as the masked singer since she was always wearing somesort of mask over her face.

Now she never crossed paths with the panicking Dim. In fact, she was on a completely different side of the city, in the middle of a rehearsal for a performance with her little band of dancers. She was excited about this performance since it was meant to be the debut of her newest song. A little love note to her audience.

But in the middle of a break, the power went out. Vee and her dancers were looking at each other in confusion when one of the stage hands (they were running through their cues at the stage in the studio. Which was also kinda a refurnished opera house. Why? Asthetic.) Ran through the door with ⚠️⚠️ (its gore time. Skip to the next danger triangles if you can't read it.) Blood dripping from their limp arm, elbow bent in a way it should never bend, a couple of fingers missing as blood oozed from their stumps.⚠️⚠️

They stared at the group of dancers, no. They stared through the group of dancers, eyes empty and fading. All they could manage to say was "Run." Before they collapsed on their face into a puddle of their own gore.

Vee could only stare until she saw red eyes peering through the dark doorway.

A person(?) Leapt through the door and onto the nearest dancer like a lion pouncing on its prey. Biting into his neck with teeth that were much too sharp.

That's right. Vampires.

Vee was staring for only a second longer before she ran. She kept running through the dark halls. She had all but memorized the Floorplan of the studio, yet she still ran into walls. She tripped over *something*

She could feel it squish under her foot and refused to look down.

"Violet!" A slightly familiar voice called out. Who was it again? A new management member maybe?

A flashlight shined in her face, blinding her a bit from his face (this is a description for the comic, btw.) She took his outstretched hand as he led her into her own office (or whatever it's called. I've honestly been calling it her chilling room in my head)

Why was he in there?

Okay, look. I'm not going to write out the next scene. I'm going to have to draw it eventually, but I am not writing this out. Long story short. He attempted to assault her. He was one of the scariest monsters in this story. A human.

He held her down, choking her. Her hands searched for a way to break free. She found a large shard of glass and stabbed him in the neck.

He was dead. He was dead, and she wasn't. He was dead, and she-- she killed him. Her hands were covered in blood. Her sweatpants were still hanging skewed of her hips, and her hands were covered in blood.

A blue box taunted her from right above his body. The light that emanated from it reflected off of the glass still in him.

Vee was going to puke.

"Hello? Vee? Vee!"

There were hands near her, they were going to touch her. They were going to grab her. She couldn't-

The hands stopped. They never made contact. They hovered near her shoulders before moving back slowly in a telegraphed, easy to see way.

"Vee, can you hear me? It's [REDACTED]"

Vee nodded her head, it was held between her hands (when did that happen? Why was she curled up into a ball?)

The voice was calming. She definitely recognized it. But she just couldn't tell who it was.

"That's good. Do you-"

The voice was cut off by another blue box appearing in between them.

[Congratulations on surviving after the tutorial! All creatures you have destroyed will now be turned into skill points! NOTE: SKILL POINTS WILL ONLY BE ACCESSIBLE IN SHELTERS AND NEUTRAL ZONES. Your character has been decided! Welcome to the game, Succubus, Vee!]

"What the fu-" Vee's whole body exploded with pain. Her back, her head, her eyes, her limbs, everything hurt. Then everything went dark.

So.

Have I mentioned before that this game is extremely fucked up? Because it 100% is. It turned her into a succubus because the one she killed was someone she had "seduced." Vee is the first half of our "monster duo" in the main group. Because she didn't kill one of the game's monsters, she got a very different character than most. She is in the monster class (because you can go out and fight beings like her without it being player murder. By that, I mean if you kill Vee, it will still be player murder, but you can kill the generated succubi, and it would just be normal monster hunting.)

If it isn't obvious, I was pretty inspired by Lone Necromancer on Webtoon for this monster class. It's the only monster apocalypse story I've found that allows players to become these normally monstrous classes.

Anyways. That's the end of Vee's introduction. Why? Because to say anymore would be spoilers for another character.

so i gotta make a full ass post about my last reblog because i would be doing the situation a disservice if i posted it only in the tags.

puts my grubby little pizza hands together and takes a deep breath

so.

around 2019-2020, so pre-pandemic, i was working for a small startup business. this was through a scheme that my local council was paying for, to get people into employment and to help local small businesses. great stuff on paper! fantastic stuff even!

this business was uh. well. the guy running it was maybe not the best personality match for me when it comes to a boss, but that's something better demonstrated than plainly stated. i don't wanna say he was a bad guy because that'd be unfair, but i was not the only person who struggled with dealing with him. i won't go too much into his personality either because this isn't about making a smear piece, this is about processing my struggles with illness in the workplace.

so, yeah. i'm a chronic migraine sufferer. it varies from headache and dizziness severity to "i'm having spots in my vision, i feel like throwing up and i literally can't do anything but sit with my head in my hands and my eyes closed tight and make pathetic noises". i'm still not entirely sure what my triggers are for it, but right now i'm thinking it's linked to drastic weather changes, hydration, stress and poor sleep.

i also have moderate to severe depression and anxiety. this ebbs and flows, it always impacts me at a certain baseline but a lot of the time it's background noise. my anxiety tends to flare up more than my depression, admittedly, but hoo boy do they both hit me bad when they hit me.

these were going unmedicated at the time for various reasons.

so, by the very nature of a startup business with less than 10 employees, a lot of us had to do a lot of different kinds of work. that's fine, i'm multiskilled, i don't mind doing a variety of things. but i was definitely more of dog's body than whatever the hell i originally signed up to be, which was more of an administerial/clerical position. aight, fine, i've worked in retail, i can do sales. i'm a computer nerd, i can do social media marketing and graphics. you want me to train people? uhhh sure i guess. and learn UX? fine okay. wait you want me to learn to code as well??? i'm not getting paid enough for this.

so it was a very stressful job. very anxiety-inducing job too. i was told both that i had a lot of responsibility and i was NEEDED, and that the company would simply keep going without me and it didn't matter if i quit or was let go.

oh! fun fact by the way. remember i mentioned my local council was paying for me to be on this scheme? they were paying him. he was getting my work for free, technically. granted, i was getting paid a wage, but he was not the one paying it. yeah. it's great on paper until you consider the way things went in practice.

on one instance i recall that i had my entire evening monopolised, because unbeknownst to me i had apparently agreed to run a live training with someone who was using our product and using it during the evening hours. and i was apparently required to field phone calls from them all evening. i didn't sign up for this, i didn't get paid for these extra hours.

on another instance, i recall we got locked in the building we worked in because we stayed too long (as it was not a privately owned building, we were renting space in a public college), and i was literally in tears with panic about getting out. graciously i was given the next day off work to decompress, but i should never have been put in that situation to begin with. this was due to a bad call on my boss' part.

i'm getting a little distracted here, my apologies, but this thing happens when i start digging up old grievances and trauma that i remember tangential things and it just kind of goes from there.

but yeah. i actually discovered through this job that i suffered anxiety attacks and what they felt like, and that my anxiety was a liability, and i began to suspect through this job as well that my frequent headaches that often led to me feeling like throwing up were not in fact just regular ass headaches.

i didn't feel like i could get sick notes in this situation. i felt like my employer would turn them down or simply fire me.

oh, but you know the time i HAVE used sick notes?

universal credit. good ol' department for work and pensions. rule britannia and all that.

fuck off with that shit actually, they refused my last sick note even though it was ongoing because it listed my depression and anxiety, and they decided that i was actually entirely fine even though they told me i could work on reduced hours to still be eligible for benefits because of my health conditions, and the job search has - to no one's surprise - been making my health conditions WORSE.

(edit: i should clarify, they DID accept sick notes for a time, but eventually i needed to undergo a work capability assessment, and this is when they decided that i still had capacity for work - which i do agree with, there are things i can do! - and then proceeded to ignore the part about it being for reduced hours.)

guess who's been crying themselves to sleep more nights than not, and struggling to sleep, and having erratic schedule, due to scraping to even get an interview only to be NOT EVEN TOLD that i didn't get the job! and that's if i even get a reply back from the first application!

yeah. there's a lot of shit wrong with healthcare and a lot of shit wrong with employment right now. and as it turns out there's a lot of shit wrong with me.

i'm probably gonna delete this post after a while because i always feel bad dumping shit like this on main, especially when it feels like it's old news and i just haven't processed it because i know i'll never get closure. but sometimes i just have to let myself write, and maybe if i post it someone else will come to a realisation and it'll help them. i dunno.

I was thinking about the concepts of a god in video games and my favourite depiction of it is in Okami. Because... nobody really knows that you play as the god, in fact, it is a pretty huge plot point that everybody stopped believing in the gods. And then you go around with Amaterasu and help out people... but you don't do it with a big fanfare, you just go there and use a little magic that just looks like it was a coincidence. And then people are like "What just happened?!" and often they talk to Ammy because she is there, but for them, she is just the cute little doggy, but then they give praise because their problem got solved and it all gets to Ammy. And it is like this in the whole game. And not only that, the people react to your shenanigans. If you let a tree bloom in front of them, they have a surprised animation and a question mark over their head and then go back to what they were doing, probably thinking "Well, that was strange." And you keep doing stuff that just isn't logic over the course of the game and then... in the end... they finally believe in Ammy, but only after Issun told them about her. I just... really love the idea that a god is someone who just is around and helps without expecting anything in return and just taking the praise of people who now not have a problem anymore. And the fact that they animated people reacting to random shenanigans and not only people, also every single animal. I just love Okami so much.

You know, one thing that makes the Soulsborne games so great is the fact that your character is an absolute nobody. You are not supposed to be some godlike being with powers beyond measure or the one who is fated to do great things. Sure, Dark Souls 1 has the Chosen Undead, but it becomes revealed quickly that the Chosen One trope is a farce and so it gets completely subverted. In Dark Souls 2 you are simply the Bearer of the Curse, just one of many who suffer from the curse. In Dark Souls 3 you get told straight up that you were the last they could ask, because you are the loser of the losers. In Bloodborne we play as some unlucky random person who got wrapped up in Yharnam's affair. In Demon's Souls our Slayer straight up gets enslaved to the Nexus out of sheer desperation of the Monumental. And in Sekiro we play as a single Shinobi, who can't take on a whole army himself. So he makes defense to his greatest offense and uses stealth and dirty tricks. Which leaves the Tarnished, the one who is played the most straight. Elden Ring has this amazing opening movie and we get to see the six Tarnished who will probably be the main bosses of the game and... ...one another... Our player character. Here is the thing. It was never meant that our character should win. In fact, in Soulsborne all odds are AGAINST our character. It is the fact that DESPITE everything they win, that is the theme of these games. Our character has only one thing going for them... They can't die. And therefore, only giving up is when they lost. It's a theme of overcoming, a theme of persevering, a theme of fighting a battle that should be unwinable, but isn't. You just have to try it again and again. And that is what I love about these games.

and to really be able to just Relax around each other and let your guards down

but once you do get to that point?

mornings? you’re both drinking tea and judging everyone’s outfits as they come in to get breakfast

in fact, pretty much all of your time at the compound is spent together

reading, sparring, going over game plans for missions, all of it you do together

even the mundane things such as chores like doing the dishes or laundry duty, you both end up working on it together

mostly because the two of you are inseparable anyway

and also a little bit because everyone else on the team is a little Too intimidated by Loki to actually try to separate the two of you

your free time away from the compound is also spent together

you go on “outings,” as you like to call them

since Loki’s still pretty new to Earth culture, you’ve taken it upon yourself to introduce them to all your favorite places and things

sometimes you set aside days to be complete tourists

seeing the Statue of Liberty, riding the ferry, getting pizza in Times Square

you even convince them to go see Wicked on Broadway

after which, Loki was adamant about seeing as many plays and musicals as they could get to, dramatic theatre kid that they are

and the sight of them completely enthralled by the shows always makes you smile, anyway, so how could you ever say no?

you take them to all your favorite little hidden gems

the coffee place on seventh street that you adore because it’s always empty in the evenings

the corner of Central Park where there are no joggers or scammers selling photocopies of artwork at outrageous prices

you even take them to the ironically-named Valhalla Bar, which you frequented long before you ever knew any of the Asgardians

you’ll never forget the one time they got absolutely shit-faced on a single pint of beer

“Isn’t Asgardian liquor supposed to be, like... really strong?” “Yes, well, I’m not Asgardian, so.” “...doesn’t that mean Asgardian liquor should have made you this shit-faced, too, if not more?” “................I don’t know right now.”

you also end up with Loki participating in a lot of your personal hobbies, as well

your photography, your drawing, your painting, whatever it is that you do for fun, Loki ends up at least trying

you let them hold your Good(tm) camera and show them how to aim and how to use the grid to center photos

most of them come out a little blurry and off-centered, but you had fun doing goofy poses from them anyway

you get Loki a blank canvas to work with while you’re doing your own painting, and try not to get jealous that painting comes so naturally to them

“How are you so good at that? Have you painted before?” “No. Just lucky, I guess.” “Mm.” “Why, are you jealous?” “No.” “Y/N.” “I’m not.” “Y/N.” “I’m not.” “...” “...okay maybe just a little bit. Look at how you blended those colors together so perfectly. It took me months to perfect that.”

when it’s your turn to buy groceries for the compound, Loki always tags along

and throws things in the carts that absolutely No One in the compound wants or needs

all in all, the two of you are absolutely inseparable

practically joined at the hip

when one of you is sad, the other is doing everything in their power to help you feel better

bringing tea or a favorite book or queuing up dumb TikTok compilations on YouTube

your each other’s wingmen

gassing each other up when you have dates, making sure you’ve got everything you need for when you’re going out

waiting up at night to make sure that the other got home safe

even though you’re both Literal Avengers and know how to handle yourselves

it’s just what you Do

and you wouldn’t have it any other way
