MUSIC MONDAY: "AfroStones" - A Blues and R&B-Filled Rolling Stones Collection (LISTEN)
by Marlon West (FB: marlon.west1 Twitter: @marlonw IG: stlmarlonwest Spotify: marlonwest) Back in the fall of 1981 when I was in my first semester at Columbia College, I became friends with a fellow from a Chicagoland suburb. He was a dyed-in-the-wool Rolling Stones fan. One afternoon their version of “Just My Imagination” played on the radio near us. I recall mentioning it was a…

♫ Playing For Change Week Grand Finale ♫
Wow, I can’t believe this week is over already!  I’ve had a lot of fun with this music from the Playing For Change Foundation and I really hope you’ve enjoyed it, too!  As I usually do on the last day of my week-long artist tributes, I’m playing a few of the ones I didn’t cover during the week … no lyrics this time, just the music!  Most of these are from the ‘Songs From Around the World’…

been thinking a lot about soulless jack’s arc and the various way it crashed through the ceiling and one of those ways is how there was absolutely no fallout from it in s15.
between the events of Game Night and Moriah, dean opened up an fbi file that listed jack as armed + dangerous with multiple charges, he and Sam literally tracked Jack through the trail of bodies left behind with every new target. the woman swallowed by the earth was literally televised live for half of the normal world to see, and not only did jack’s second trail of bodies with the Grigori literally get him on CCTV footage eating a heart, but it also landed him as the wanted armed + dangerous fbi target. I don’t know if Chuck reversing the lie command also reversed the world’s memory of it all or what, but Jack had like an actual impact on the normal world that just isn’t there in S15.
Nobody seems to recognize him once he’s back, not civilians who saw him telekinetically bury a woman alive on national television, not police officers or actual FBI agents aware of his still-active file or the CCTV footage of him eating a raw heart. Nothing. Of course it’s because everything Jack goes through is for plot advancement and nothing else, but that only adds to how frustrating the sheer amount of loose ends in his arcs is.
While I’d personally rework the entire season to have more focus on Jack, I do think there was some potential to revisit it in Gimme Shelter especially, where the main villain is literally a Christian Jigsaw who punishes those she deemed “wicked” and “corrupt” in almost the exact same way Duma had manipulated Jack into doing. Even in the way the episode canonically plays out, Jack and Sylvia do have some connection: both dealing with loss, grief, hopelessness, helplessness, and disappointment. Now the episode doesn’t exactly bank on their emotional connection as a plot stronghold for when Sylvia is revealed to be bad, like Sam and Ava in All Hell Breaks Loose, but the ghost of a narrative foil still haunts it anyways.
Sylvia is obviously meant to be some sort of foil or mirror for Jack in the sense that she reflects what he did and what he’s currently suicidally guilt stricken about. As usual, Jack tries to reach out and help Sylvia because of their similarities, because she’s in the same pain he is in, to which she refutes: “you’re just a scared little boy trying to make his daddies happy.” The mirror for Jack’s past actions is basically belittling his guilt-driven attempt to make things right with Sam and Dean and the rest of the world. The hopelessness, helplessness and disappointment they related to each other is exactly what Jack feels within his own situation.
I mean, he’s literally suicidal. He’s actively working towards killing himself as a last resort for redemption and atonement without there even being a guarantee that he’ll actually get it in the end.

As one might have expected, Hoover took an interest in Mick that bordered on obsession. Under direct orders from Hoover, more than a dozen FBI agents posing as drug dealers, hippies, and bikers mingled with the crowd at Altamont.
By 1970, several paid informants had infiltrated the Stones organization and were reporting back to J. Edgar with stories of drug abuse and orgies.

Awhile ago on Twitter I saw a peterick manip that I had a lot of fun pulling apart, and part of the fun is that I found out there was some pretty interesting history behind it. In the spirit of trying to use this blog more and being able to write a whole lot more over here I wanted to go into the whole thing in more detail.
Tumblr media
Behold! If you're familiar with the Olde Internet and making horribly filtered graphics- things of this nature are very easy to identify. But since I see a lot of people both younger and older than me not spotting it, here's some tips. Different quality of images, different or nonsense light sources, etc. If it seems to good to be true, honey, it probably is- or whatever! But where did these images come from?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This photo is a composite of Patrick Stump (with Albert Maysles) at the CosmoGIRL! Born to Lead Awards on Nov 13, 2007 and Pete Wentz (with Ashlee Simpson) at Clive Davis' Pre-Grammy Party on Feb 9, 2008. Here are both the original images and it overlaid at 40% opacity. I'm not still entirely convinced I found a photo of the right angle of the Pete and Ashlee kiss, but it has to be the same event.
Pete was the easiest to date his look and find. The hair length, the "adventurous" hat, the blazer- it all feels pretty typical of that era and his many photo ops with his now ex-wife. I was able to immediately find it by looking for images of Pete and Ashlee at events from 2008, but I wouldn't have needed that much precision to find it...
Tumblr media
(See them peeking out from the bottom of this screenshot of the Google results for "Ashlee Simpson Pete Wentz Kiss")
Finding Patrick Stump however took atleast an hour because I had so much confidence his look was from early 2008. Jokes on me! On top of the event being pretty unknown it was actually from late 2007 and now I've seen so many photos of Patrick from those two years I can date specific haircuts down to the week. I'm deeply unhappy about this development.
Now someone might be asking: why the fuck was Albert Maysles hanging out with Fall Out Boy?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you aren't familiar with the late Albert Maysles he was an American documentary filmmaker best known for the films he made with his brother David. Famously the Rolling Stones documentary Gimme Shelter (1970) and often referenced and parodied documentary Grey Gardens (1975) which is more than I'm able to explain right now .
It was reported by Rolling Stones, MTV News and Indiewire (which I've pulled the below quotes from) that Albert Maysles had expressed interest and was in the process of making a documentary of Fall Out Boy and potentially Decaydance as a record label? Whatever happened to this project, I don't know! I occasionally look for information about it and find a lot of dead links/ends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, it is pretty interesting! And a neat piece of history I wouldn't have learned about if I wasn't trying to figure out how a peterick manip was made.

Her Song (Florence Pugh)
I bop my head along to the song playing over the shop's sound system. My best friend, Ash, watches amusedly as I jam out to "Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones while washing the counter.
"Stop staring and get back to work, Ashlynn," I instruct in a sing-song voice.
"I am working," she retorts, gesturing to the espresso machine she's cleaning. "Maybe you should get back to work."
"I'm multitasking. Besides, I own the place; I don't have to work if I don't want to."
She sticks her tongue out at me and I flip her off, ending our playful banter. Ash was the first friend I made when I moved to New York City, and we've practically been inseparable ever since. Despite her technically being my employee, she's more like a co-owner of the shop. We're partners in crime. Well, if selling records, books, and beverages counts as crime.
The gentle patter of rain on the roof relaxes me as I work. To most people, a day full of clouds and rain is automatically a bad one, but I love the rain. There's just something about sitting inside with a book in a candle-lit room while it rains; it feels like home. That's exactly the atmosphere I try to create in the shop; on days like this, I always dim the lights, light some candles, and lower the volume of the music.
My regulars love it, I love it, Ash loves it, and Syd loves it. Speaking of Syd: "Syd, honey, where are you?" I call out.
The five-year-old girl peaks her head around one of the bookshelves and says, "Right here, Momma. I like this book." I squint my eyes to read the cover. War and Peace.
"Syd, put that book back. You're a smart kid, but you aren't nearly old enough to read that. At least wait until you're ten," I tell her. I know she won't be reading War and Peace when she's ten, but a little childhood false hope never hurt anybody.
"Fine," she grumbles, putting the large book back where she found it.
"Thank you."
"Momma, can I watch Shrek on the big TV?"
"Sure, just keep the volume low." There's an area with a TV and a couple of bean bag chairs, and that's usually where she likes to hang out. I don't mind as long as she doesn't disturb the customers.
She quickly gets lost in the movie and a smile at her Shrek impression as she quotes the movie.
"Y/N, can you go out back and grab more napkins to fill the dispenser?" Ash asks from behind the cafe counter.
I nod and make my way through the employees-only door that leads out back. As I'm opening a box of napkins, I can hear the bell that signals the front door opening, followed by a faint conversation that I can't really hear through the walls. I'm a bit surprised that we have a customer, considering the light rain had passed and now it's pouring outside.
I grab a package of napkins and walk back out. I don't pay much attention to my surroundings as I fill the dispenser. But when I'm finished, my jaw drops at the customer standing in an aisle of records. Is that Florence Pugh?
I clear my throat and quickly regain my composure, although I'm still freaking out on the inside. She's just a person, I think to myself. No need to freak out or anything.
The song ends and "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac comes on. I smile and mouth along to the lyrics as I busy myself with organizing the book section of the store.
I risk a glance at the woman and see her singing softly with a small smile. I bite my lip to contain a laugh at the way she subtly dances to the music.
"Whatcha doin?"
"Oh Jesus!" I jump, covering my racing heart with my hand as I recover from the scare. "Don't do that, Ash," I scold with a slap to her shoulder.
"Are you stalking the customer?" she whispers. "I mean, she's hot and you should definitely go for it, but this is kinda creepy."
"I'm not stalking her!" I whisper-yell. "I'm...reorganizing the books."
"Uh-huh. Reorganizing the books while watching her sing along to one of your favorite songs with a dumbass smile on your face," she deadpans.
"Shut up."
"You're just mad 'cause you know I'm right," she says before walking away. I roll my eyes at her childish antics.
"Excuse me, I was wondering if you have anything by Paramore? All of my American friends are telling me that I need to listen to their music and I was just walking by and I thought 'well, why not' so here I am," she rambles, her accent shining through each of her words.
"Oh, uh, yeah, of course! We've got tons of Paramore," I stutter out, leading her to the section I've dubbed the 'emo corner.'
"So, we've got Riot, Brand New Eyes, and Paramore. If you want any of their other albums, I can order 'em and have them in by the end of the week," I tell her.
"Well, what would you recommend? I'm not very familiar with this genre, and I've no idea where to start," she inquires with a sweet half-smile.
"Oh, jeez, well I grew up on this stuff, so...I think I would recommend Riot. It's got a lot of my personal favorites."
I gently pull the vinyl off the shelf and hand it to her. She looks it over and nods her head. "Then this is the one I'll get. Thank you very much."
"It's my pleasure. Will that be all today?"
"Yes. Actually, maybe some Yorkshire tea if you have it?"
"We most certainly do," I confirm as I lead her to the checkout counter, which is a few feet away from the cafe counter. "Ash, Yorkshire tea," I call out. She doesn't respond and I look over to see her smiling down at her phone. I love that girl, but sometimes I want to smack her upside the head.
"Ashlynn! Éteigne ton téléphone et fais du thé pour cette femme!" I yell at her (translation: turn off your phone and make tea for this woman). Her head snaps up at the angry French and she gives me a sheepish smile before getting Florence's tea started.
I look back over to Florence, who is looking at me with raised eyebrows and laughing silently. I shake my head with a smirk and ring her up. Ash brings the tea over and gives it to Florence. While she's distracted, I flip over the receipt and write "'For a Pessimist, I'm Pretty Optimistic' is my favorite on this album :)"
I hand her the receipt and we exchange a quick goodbye before she walks out of the store. I sigh with a small smile, convincing myself that actually just happened.
"Did you write your number on the receipt?" Ash asks excitedly.
"What? No," I deny. "I wrote a song recommendation."
"Well that's boring. You had the perfect opportunity," she complains.
I shrug my shoulders and laugh at her displeasure with my lack of flirting.
"Momma, was that your girlfriend?" Syd yells from her spot in a beanbag chair.
"No, Sydney, she's not my girlfriend. I don't even know her. Go back to your movie."
She turns back around and resumes the movie with little enthusiasm. Kids.

Hi!! So I'm a fairly strong chuck won believer (i have been given some Extremely convincing evidence and I think its interesting to think about so) but I saw a post you made about how that theory disregards cas and jacks arcs and I was just wondering if you could expand on that? I'm super open to interpretations lol and I'm really curious to hear the other side (i haven't seen too much anti chuck won stuff so I dont know the arguments)
Okay, oh boy. I guess part of it is what exactly you mean by “Chuck Won” because I understand it on a censorship level. Yes, Chuck was representing the network. Yes, the network meddled and cut Dean’s reciprocation and we ended up with that garbage finale with pages of [OMITTED] in the script. So, if that’s all you mean by “Chuck Won” then yeah, whatever I guess.
Idk, some people probably feel it’s a legitimate theory simply because Dean died. It seems a lot of the fandom thinks death = bad…and that’s just not the case now that Jack freed the souls. I mean, I can throw quotes from The Mummy and Lord of the Rings at you about how death is the next step in journey. So while I’m no longer upset about Dean dying in general, especially because it was foreshadowed, the way he died was so fucking dumb. That doesn’t mean I think it has anything to do with Chuck.
Cas’ arc was all about self-actualization. His speech in Gimme Shelter explains a good part of it with how he found purpose having a family and becoming a dad, BUT him also realizing that having himself is important, too. Then, oh goodness, we reach the culmination in Despair (The Truth) when he realizes happiness is in the saying, in accepting your truth, both the good and bad bits of yourself. The Empty comes and he reintegrates with his Shadow to become whole and saves Dean, the world, and himself in the process. Yes, that’s a whole bunch of Jungian psychology stuff and it’s a lot to process and I’m probably not doing the best job of explaining it. Most of the Chuck Won theory stuff I’ve seen ignores all that and seems to ignore the canon that Cas IS in heaven. I understand the disappointment of Cas and Dean not reuniting, YET. Corporate fuckery (and Covid) kept it from happening in the finale with the original Roadhouse ending that was planned and then scheduling conflicts and Jensen and Misha agreeing Cas needed more than a cameo kept him from being in The Winchesters.
And Jack. Jack was literally the whole goddamn point. The two big things are he’s possessed and sometimes dead because of this, or he is corrupted somehow. I have never seen a convincing damn argument for either of these things. There’s one post that tries to compare some his mannerisms to Chuck, but is filled with so much straw grasping and reaching I’m surprised the author didn’t need a doctor afterward. Another is that some people project on the poor boy so much and just they don’t like his arc, they want to think something is wrong. There is a lot more Pagan stuff about Jack and the number of mythologies where some god is brought down by being a power hungry dickhead and that comes back to bite them in the ass as a grandchild in Jack’s case removes them from power. There are better people to explain all the Pagan imagery surrounding Jack; my tag #jack is the orphic egg should get you to some really good stuff. I’m also not down to argue about how the last 3-5 seasons are meant to read with a Pagan lens. There was one group who predicted the end of the mothership months in advance and then all of The Winchesters and it wasn’t the people clinging to some white Christian reading.
Last thing, I just personally find the theory really lazy as well. I would legitimately be so disappointed in Jensen and whoever ends up writing the next chapter whether that’s Robbie or someone else if they went that route. Luckily, they are all smarter than that and I can see them seeming to lean into it, but then having the most fabulous rug pull! This is very long, oops.

Dancin'. Theater Review
Dancin"Not The Same Zeal as Original.Robert Massimi. When I originally saw "Dancin' back in 1980, it had Bob Fosse's signature on it. The show would play over four years on Broadway in two different theaters. In the recent revival, "Dancin'' is good, but not great. Under the choreography of Christine Colby Jacques (she was in the original cast of Dancin'), it lacks the pizzaz and direction to take it to a great level.  The show's first number "prologue" was encouraging in that it moved fast, was snappy and upbeat. The evening's second number "Mr. Bojangles" was stale and flat.It seemed that the whole evening went this way; one good number followed by a dull one. The only time the show had two consistent numbers was at the close of the first act with "Dancin' Man" and at the start of the second act with "Sing, Sing, Sing". Under Wayne Cilento's direction/musical staging, the cast was out of sync at times; dancers made mistakes in the ensemble dancing. The dialogue was never moving and the acting was average at best.Under Fosse, the show popped and was tight and vibrant. With the exception of a few standouts (Peter John Chursin, Karli Dinardo, Mattie Love, Tony d'Alelio and Neka Zang) the dancers were uninspiring; some do not even belong on a Broadway stage and as such, they brought down the show to average. Some of the strong points to the performance were the costume design by Reid Bartelme and Harriet Jung, and the lighting design by David Grill. The costumes were deft and some of the best I have seen this theater season. In the lighting we had a range that supported the show nicely, as it was crisp and on point. "Dancin '' ' will appeal to the modern dance lover. It will even appeal to an audience that loves dance in all forms. It just wasn't up to the standards of the great Bob Fosse. For those who revelled in its originality, today's "Dancin' " just can't cut the muster of yesteryear. -- Robert Massimi.CEO., Gimme Shelter Productions,LLCwww.gimmeshelterproductionsllc.com|NY, Jesse Ferguson, Sweeney todd, Hamilton, Funny Girl, Nathan Lane, CNN, www.nypost.com; swmnimbus.org, Lion King, Wabc Radio, Dramatists Guild, Dancin, Bob Fosse.

SPN
favorite male character: CASTIELLLLL THE GAY ICON!
favorite female character: rowena. like ruthlessly kills innocent people but because its spn she like somehow becomes a beloved family member. in this show you don't have to be redeemable to be family you just have to be charismatic and also willing to sacrifice yourself tragically at some point
least favorite character: i feel like there's a popular character who i always feel so meh about but they're not coming to mind tbh
prettiest character: someone said season one dean looked like madchen amick. so that
funniest character: sam
favorite season: man i only watched up to season 6 and i barely remember them as seasons... but season 1 is just a x-files drama in a way that's shot interesting and has a weird tension of like 'what the fuck is wrong with these [to quote edlund] beautiful men who shoot ghosts'
favorite episode: mystery spot really is a fun episode to go back to. i watched gimme shelter and was deeply touched by the cas and jack of it all.
favorite romantic ship: can you imagine me typing anything other than destiel. i did buy those socks because i was like actually i need a souvenir of this time in my life
favorite family ship: sam and dean really are an interesting dynamic and i wish the show didn't just rehash the same ideas over and over and actually let them develop independently and admit their family was fucked up. like i still think my ideal spn ending is dean and sam saying goodbye and talking about how they'll see each other again but it's clear both of them aren't sure if they really mean it and dean leaves and sam just watches the car drive away before going back inside the house. also obviously they gave cas a baby
favorite friend ship: sam and cas. even if it is only the version in my head it is so funny. that one post like 'sam and cas's plans based on how many wounds/deaths happen'
worst ship: DO I EVEN NEED TO SAY IT

Song lyrics fitting the Stede/Ed dynamic
Tumblr media
Just wanted to share some lyrics and quotes from my favourite songs that I think might inspire people to do some art or fics :) Maybe you'll find them fitting as well. Enjoy :)
"Ooh, a storm is threatening My very life today If I don't get some shelter Ooh yeah I'm gonna fade away"
Gimme Shelter, The Rolling Stones
"Your presence is the morning Your absence is the night I'm searching your dark hallways And I'm trying to find your light I'm swimming your sad oceans I'm drowning in your sea This will all be over soon And we'll learn to live again"
A Smaller God, Darling Violetta
"Heaven and hope eternal Over your heart of gold Sun and sunset Burning in the flame you hold Ever and always Give me ever and always Body and soul"
Body and Soul, Sisters of Mercy
"I've got the scars from tomorrow and I wish you could see That you're the antidote to everything except for me A constellation of tears on your lashes Burn everything you love Then burn the ashes In the end everything collides My childhood spat back the monster that you see"
My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark, Fall Out Boy
"Love your hate Your faith lost You are now one of us
Nothing from nowhere, I'm no one at all Radiate, recongnize one silent call as we all form one dark flame Incinerate."
Miseria Cantare: The Beginning, AFI
"You have never stood this close, to where you want to be You have always waded in the shallows Between me and the deep blue sea
You'd never want me to appear You'd never want it to be over You never wanted to reach out to the edge of time"
Witch Image, Ghost
"And all the things that you never ever told me And all the smiles that are ever gonna haunt me Never coming home, never coming home Could I? Should I? And all the wounds that are ever gonna scar me For all the ghosts that are never gonna catch me"
The Ghost of You, My Chemical Romance
"No word you say tonight Can make this be alright I'll help you follow through Remember this? Pacta sunt servanda The wounds are too deep, I need to keep the scars To prove there was a time When I loved something more than life"
Don't Say A Word, Sonata Arctica
"Heaven and hope eternal Over your heart of gold Sun and sunset Burning in the flame you hold Ever and always Give me ever and always Body and soul"
Body and Soul, Sisters of Mercy

Week 9
youtube
"Summer of Soul" is a documentary directed by Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson, which delves into the vibrant and culturally significant 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. Despite featuring legendary performances by icons like Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, and Sly and the Family Stone, the festival remained largely overshadowed by Woodstock, which occurred the same summer.
Tumblr media
This documentary tackles the pressing social issue of historical erasure, particularly within Black communities. It questions why the Harlem Cultural Festival, a monumental event celebrating Black music and culture, received scant attention compared to its contemporaries like Woodstock.
"Summer of Soul" employs a multifaceted storytelling approach, combining archival footage, interviews with attendees and performers, and compelling musical performances to shed light on this issue. Through its narrative, the film reveals systemic biases and sheds light on the overlooked cultural contributions of Black Americans, serving as both a historical documentary and a celebration of Black excellence.
"Summer of Soul" unveils a previously obscured narrative in American cultural history, exposing the dynamic artistic and political energy of the Harlem Cultural Festival. This revelation has sparked widespread discourse about the erasure of Black cultural achievements and the necessity of acknowledging and preserving them. By bringing this story to light, the documentary has prompted critical discussions about historical neglect and the importance of recognizing and honoring Black cultural heritage. Its impact extends beyond the film itself, contributing to a broader reevaluation of the historical narratives that shape our understanding of American culture.
Personally, "Summer of Soul" was a profound experience that deepened my appreciation for the richness of Black cultural history. The performances were not only electrifying but also served as poignant expressions of resilience and defiance in the face of systemic oppression. I was shocked by the extent to which such a significant cultural event had been overlooked and inspired by the resilience and creativity of the artists and organizers involved. This film has fundamentally changed my perspective, highlighting the importance of amplifying marginalized voices and challenging dominant narratives.
Tumblr media
"Summer of Soul" has elevated the reputation of the Harlem Cultural Festival, positioning it alongside other iconic music festivals of the era. By centering Black cultural contributions and showcasing the significance of events like the Harlem Cultural Festival, the documentary has played a vital role in reshaping perceptions of American cultural history. Furthermore, the film has reignited conversations about the ongoing struggle for racial justice and equity, reinforcing the importance of acknowledging and celebrating Black heritage.
"Summer of Soul" proved to be a transformative moment for director Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson's career, solidifying his reputation as a versatile and talented storyteller. The documentary also marked a milestone in expanding gender and racial representation in storytelling, amplifying the voices and experiences of Black artists and communities on a mainstream platform. Through its groundbreaking approach to storytelling, "Summer of Soul" has set a new standard for inclusive and authentic representation in documentary filmmaking.

Reviews and Quotes
The Guardian: Mark Kermode, an Observer film critic, hails it as “an absolute joy”. The film showcases pulse-racing, heart-stopping live music footage from the 1969 Harlem Cultural festival, which had remained largely unseen for half a century. While iconic documentaries like Woodstock and Gimme Shelter have long been celebrated, Summer of Soul surpasses them, revealing a festival that was somehow written out of the history books. The festival featured luminaries like Stevie Wonder, Mavis Staples, and Nina Simone at the height of their performing powers. Director Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson masterfully intertwines music and politics, creating one of the best concert movies of all time. The festival took place in Mount Morris Park, Harlem, during a time of profound cultural re-evaluation, just a year after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King. The film blends wry laughter with piercing insight, exploring how the term “Black” shifted from a fighting-talk term of abuse to one of self-determination and pride. It’s a must-watch for anyone interested in music history and Black culture.
Rotten Tomatoes: "Critics and audiences alike appreciate how Summer of Soul deftly interweaves incredible live footage with revealing interviews. The film captures the spirit and context of a watershed moment while firmly tying it to the present. It’s not just music history; it’s Black history. The invitation to “come home” resonates with viewers who want to relive the coming of age of Black music."
That Shelf: "The film is a powerful reclaiming of lost history. When watching, one feels as if they are experiencing something magical and transcendent. By drawing parallels to today’s racial reckoning, Summer of Soul serves as a necessary reminder of the ongoing struggle for equality and the perseverance of a community."

1) What do you love to do to relax?
2) what’s your ideal road trip (and any road trip songs???)
3) if you could visit any country or place, anywhere and any time in history, where would you go?
🦉❤️🦛
Owl, my love! These are excellent questions! (I'll be you thought so, too!)
As far as relaxing... I'll start with this: the older I get the more I'm learning there is a significant difference between what I do to escape vs what I do to relax. To truly relax I sketch or take a hike somewhere quiet. My ultimate relaxing activities (though difficult to come by) are sitting alone at sunrise, watching the ocean. The other is watching a good rainstorm. To get even more off track with this ask 😅 I love this quote: Why do you like thunderstorms? / Because it shows that even nature needs to scream sometimes.
Huh, my ideal road trip... I've never really thought about it tbh. I like to be different places, I don't always like to go different places LOL. Road trip songs! I think you know I could go on forever with music, so I'll try to limit my selections:
This is cliché as hell, but I feel like you can't go wrong with the Tom Cochrane version of Life is a highway.
Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones
Message in a bottle - Taylor Swift
Bloom - the paper kites
Bang! - AJR
Take on me - aha!
Stand by Me - Weezer
Take me home tonight - Eddie Money (don't judge LOL)
Your love - The Outfield
Stuck in the middle with you - Stealers Wheel
Take me out - Franz Ferdinand
I'm good (blue) - David Guetta, Bebe Rexha
Okay, if I could visit any country or place, anywhere and any time in history, where would I go? Wow, this is rude. There are so many choices. I think there are a lot of moments in The Arts I'd want to be there for. Who knows... maybe it would be one of those "don't meet your heroes" type of deals, too. Like, when Michelangelo finished the Sistine Chapel, or the first radio broadcast was transmitted... what was the mood? Celebratory? Relief? ThankGodItsDoneAndICanMoveOn? All of the above?

“The truth is, these bones have withstood more than I ever thought they could. The truth is I’m stronger than I want to be. Sometimes I wake and can't tell the night from ash on my skin. I call for you, but to speak your name is to hear the sound of a broken wing, beating. What I mean is, I still don't know how to be this person; this thing of steel ribs and an elastic heart. Even on the days I want to fall apart, this body refuses to crumble. I didn't want to become this strong; with bones that heal and still remember nothing of breaking.”
Blake Auden, Beekeeper
