Yesterday I got a acrylic stand of artwork of the “what am I fighting for” scene-which for the record; I think that scene has been very much beaten into the ground as a meme, but I couldn’t pass off getting it bc it be funny to have and someone would easily recognize it’s mega man x if they came to my house lol-and my friend who I was out with who has seen the scene before despite knowing most mega man stuff from me thought it was from an anime adaptation of MMX but I laugh and go “oh no that was in the actual game, it was a animated cutscene”
And then I cry inside knowing we never got a proper anime for any of the platformer games despite the fact MMX felt like it desperately needed one- oh and classic and zx were SUPPOSED to get animes but shit fucking happened that cause them to be scrapped.

anime was a shitty canon divergent adaptation that butchered her character down to her "cutesy silly girly" persona, which obviously made the 2008 anime fans hate her with a passion (nothing wrong w being girly I'm just saying the adaptation made her super one dimensional) anyways fujoshis used to treat her as a villain because she's the fiance of Ciel,, who as u might know already was HEAVILY shipped with his butler, Sebastian back then (now it's kinda looked badly upon, nice tbh that ship sucks ass xD) She's a bit similar to Misa Amane from death note in the way she was treated. (Like an obstacle the yaoi ship must overcome rather than a person)
she's my silly little rabbit! i could gush about her character but i'll keep it short and just say that she's really well written and one of the best characters in the series. anyways she's ciel's fiance and she's like, rightfully annoying as any other 13 yr old girl would be but the fanbase fucking crucified her for even existing. she gets demonized for being 'annoying', but then ciel gets yaoishipped with an even more annoying guy. there is 100% an argument that lizzie/ciel is weird bc they're cousins (i personally don't ship it) but that falls flat when her detractors then ship the 13 yr old ciel with an eons old demon who Canonically looks like his father. the anime also never reached her main character development until years after its peak and that was only in a movie, so she really got the bad end of the stick here. not me though i had a giant crush on her when i was 12
Katara
Katara is constantly mistreated by the fans in favor of the Zukka ship (Zuko × Sokka.) They make her out to be mean, homophobic, and completely out of character just to add drama to the Zukka ship. In reality, Katara is very compassionate, and would never act that way toward anyone.
Zutara was a popular ship but when zukka got popular over covid during the atla renaissance there were a million posts about how zutara was problematic while zukka was perfect usually for racist reasons. Meanwhile katara and sokka are siblings so it didn't even make sense. They did not have to be so illogically rude to her to ship zukka and it was weird
Katara is FANTASTIC I fucking love her to pieces she is so cool and yet the entirety of the ATLA fandom treats her like garbage because she “talks about her mom dying too much” (even though she BARELY does & also was parentified from a young age due to her mother’s death) and, of course, because she’s a more feminine women when compared to her counterparts. Even in the show itself she’s mistreated: she’s ALWAYS shown cooking for the rest of the gaang, doing their laundry, any ‘womanly’ task. She ends up with the guy who kissed her twice without her consent & who she never showed any real attraction to and apparently (despite being a badass warrior-doctor!!!) after the show ended she just… settled down in the South Pole and had a bunch of kids and never did anything else. She didn’t even get a statue :( Anyways during the ATLA renaissance, despite Zutara actually not being canon, people felt that Katara threatened the sanctity of the new almost entirely baseless yaoi ship, Zukka. Unfortunately for them, due to the fact that Katara and Sokka are siblings, the usual anti-Zutara arguments didn’t work as well. So they resorted to just… slaughtering her character. If she was lucky, they’d just make Katara a background character, wingwoman, &or throw her together with her canon love interest. If she was unlucky they’d do anything from make her homophobic (??) to killing her off! Fuck’s sake, she never even got a token spare-the-pairs wlw ship! Sorry for getting so heated, that whole debacle made me FUMING MAD.

The part that irks me the most is that when Mufasa asks “What has Makuu done to make you think this way?”, Kion says “Nothing, really”. BRO WHAT DO YOU MEAN ‘NOTHING REALLY’?! I understand Mufasa meant what Makuu has done today but there are a LOT of things Makuu’s done in the past that Kion should have told his grandpa. In fact, here’s a whole list:
-Taking over Big Springs when he became leader, resulting in all the animals to scatter
-Challenging kids to fight
-Taking over the flood plains
-Trying to eat Basi which would have been just him being a crocodile if not for the fact that the reason is so he wouldn’t have to follow any rules (says so on the wiki)
-TAKING NALA HOSTAGE (seriously did Simba even KNOW about that? Did Nala or Kion bother to tell him?)
-Generally being a dick to animals
Makuu I know you did nothing wrong in this episode, but you can’t blame Kion for acting this way
I’m not placing any blame on Mtoto. He’s a good boy and all he did was tell the guard what he heard and that’s it
Twiga and Vuruga Vuruga coming up with the trap doesn’t surprise me. Cape buffalo are actually really vengeful irl so it makes sense how she wanted to teach Makuu a lesson. They ain’t called “Black Death” or “Widow Maker” for nothing

himitsu no aipri episode 1 (a week late)
it's been so long since I've written about a priseries (or any other idol) show... I'm realizing that I legit didn't think I'd ever get the chance again. I got tired of doing it before because I felt like I was either complaining too much (planet) or just happy abt everything that was happening (primagi) and thus had nothing interesting to say either way, but ever since watching aipri on sunday I've been looking forward to this... I think I'm just happy about new idol anime content after such a long drought tbh but it's something good that aipri has already brought us, no matter what you or I think of anything else about it.
I missed the first 5 minutes bc I was reading bad fanfiction in bed to wake up (nigh daily routine) and totally forgot abt aipri... then I did remember and had to sprint to my computer, but the stream kept stopping so I missed some critical stuff throughout. I liked the ep okay, but maybe actually seeing all of it will improve it?

that is the ugliest anime dog I've ever seen, hands down, but Hiiro is cute. I'm sure she's well on her way to being the Non or whoever the prichan little sister was of aipri, in terms of popularity.
I do think it is very, very interesting that in this pretty series anime which is aimed at perhaps the youngest audience yet, they have put the mc in a dorm, away from her family. weird. actually I am for the first time realizing exactly how many anime have schools with dorms. you'd think japan is overflowing w boarding schools but idk of a single one lmao...

the first time I watched this my internet cut out just as Mitsuki's face was approaching Himari's. I knew what she was doing bc of the comic in the aipri fanbook, but still it was like, oh! looks like it's gonna be another totally straight pretty series show!
oh man, the op. the song itself is cute and catchy, but this vtuber's voice is just too much, and it gets more too much as the song goes on. I get the appeal of her being a "real-life aipri", and presumably she's popular so her fans might be drawn to watch, but I hope she doesn't sing the next op too..... oh you know what would be kind of cool is if every op was sung by a different vtuber. that way if one sucked we wouldn't have to hear them again, and they'd showcase a lot of different people.
Meganee is especially exceptionally cute in her op cameo!!!

Yusa Kouji-sensei has by far my fav character design in this show. he is officially my favorite aipri.

buzzalyume... idk if anyone is aware or not, but buzz is a word that's in really common use regarding social media in japan atm. like you would say "that's buzzing" (literally I mean, figuratively it's more like "that's all the buzz" like the english use of the word) about something that's all over your timeline or whatever. so it's not totally out of left field for them to choose that word in particular, but it doesn't mean that it sounds any less forced, that's for sure!!

...finally, I watched it all. whew. I have to say, I was not wowed by it! but it was fine. it's far better than having no pretty series at all. I keep thinking "I'll put off my opinion till I know more about it" about aipri and I'm tempted to say it again now--in this episode we barely met the main two characters in favor of worldbuilding. it kind of makes sense as the first ep of a little kid show, but will the rest of the show stay at this same level of character depth? it's way too early to say. but for me, that's what'll determine how much I like it.

Honestly, for a car idea, now I can’t stop picturing there being some play on words with the phrase “smart cookie.” Like maybe a school or laboratory themed car with pastry denizens, and the famous Summa Cum Laude/head scientist is some sort of cookie. That, and or a car where that used to be the case, but they either got burnt out “gifted kid” style or went through an identity crisis and mental breakdown from something involving prior passengers/the nature of the puzzle of their car challenging the concept of them being ‘a smart cookie.’
Alternately, an inverted aquarium car where the entrance door dumps you into a zoo enclosure pit, and there are giant windows separating you from a ‘watery outside world’ where gawking aquatic species denizens want to take candid pictures of passengers for their family vacation to the Zoo before you can leave.
Could be some fun stuff there methinks.
I've seen a lot of stuff using fish or aquariums for cars, I think, so I did a spin on it to make it a zoo. I didn't actually finish this one bc I forgot what I wanted the ending to be, but I hope y'all can still enjoy it!
(I didn't have any ideas for the Smart Cookie car but it's SUCH a cool concept, I hope I or someone else uses it in the future)
The sign read no photography and MT figured it was about all the luck they would get. Jesse entered the car first to make sure it was safe, per usual. Only to find an empty zoo exhibit in which Jesse was the animal on display. Curious, MT had followed him and Alan right after. The door had closed behind them too quickly for either of them to backtrack.
In no less than five minutes even MT realized that their was no winning with this car. It sucked. Clearly the denizens lacked complete respect for the rules of their own car. And every new animal left MT more on edge than the last!
After hours of wandering in circles looking for any sign of an exit, they'd eventually decided a break was in order.
A pair of giraffes cooed at them from the other side of the cage, trying to lean through the bars and get their attention. One of them reached into its coat, glancing around to see if anyone else was looking. The only other creature was a hippo that was half asleep.
“What are they doing?" Jesse squinted. Sitting in the middle of the exhibit left him too far away to make out the details. It whipped out a camera, snapping a few quick pictures before stuffing it back into its pocket as if nothing had happened.
"Hey!" He pointed an accusatory finger, gesturing at the sign that MT had noted upon first entering. "It says no pictures!"
MT shuffled behind him, a bundle of anxious energy. They had been quiet after their initial reaction to the car. There was a small stream in the enclosure, but it was tiny and off to the side. It posed no real threat. That hadn't eased their nerves in the slightest.
MT crossed their arms and came to stand by Jesse's side before shooting a glare at the sneaky photographer. "I'm breaking that camera on my way out.”
Unbothered by their threats the other giraffe pulled out their own camera, taking their sweet time to take pictures of the two of them.
Frustrated, MT stomped towards them. Being sure to make good on their words. "I did not escape the mirror world just to get trapped in some cage like an animal!"
"No offense Alan!" Jesse amended delicately. The deer was grazing near the stream, completely unperturbed by the scene.
MT’s fist brushed against the metal of their enclosure, an electric jolt arcing from the metal into them painfully. They stumbled back from it, nearly crumbling to their knees as they clutched the sore spot. Jesse ran to their side, placing his hands hesitantly on their shoulder in an attempt to help. "Are you okay?"
They waited to respond, their vision still wobbly and bright from the shock. They shook their hand out, as if to dispel any remaining electricity as they settled back into themselves. "I'm just- tired."
Intrigued by the sudden commotion the giraffes took a whole slew of pictures, babbling to one another. MT growled. If they couldn't punch them then they'd find another way. Picking up a fist sized rock they launched it at the two instead.
The rock fared better than their hand, sailing through the cage and almost nipping one in the shoulder. Disgruntled, they put their cameras away.
MT's eyes never left the giraffes as they finally started to make their way to some other exhibit that this makeshift zoo must have had to offer. They was more than relieved to watch them go, but they knew more would take their place in time.
At last, true to their words, MT sank into Jesse's side. Resting a good amount of their weight on him. It wasn't entirely unusual. They knew they'd been getting handsier and handsier with every passing car. They could only hope he didn't mind- well. MT knew he didn't. Jesse leaned into every touch like he was starved, but MT couldn't help the way it made their stomach squirm. It was all so new to them. Everything was new to them.
As sweet as it was to stay pressed into Jesse's side, hiding against his shoulder for some sense of privacy, it couldn't last. MT was heavy. No amount of swim practice was going to keep him upright as they sagged into him, as much as they was loathsome to move.
"Do you wanna sit down?"
MT had the decency not to point out how out of breath he sounded.
Jesse shifted, moving deeper into the enclosure. Alan Dracula trotted behind them as if to keep an eye on his two fawns. His hand was feather light against their wrist, but he never broke the contact. MT was thankful for it.
There wasn't much peace and quiet to be had in this car. No cave or burrow to hide in. Even here they were still clearly visible to passing denizens. "Is this okay?"
Taking in their surroundings, MT sighed. "Yeah, this will have to do."
"Just close your eyes," He prompted, making space so that they could sit beside him.
MT blatantly ignored the extra room, and made theirself at home lined up next to him, shoulder to ankle. Jesse always felt so warm, it drew MT into him. Clicking together like two magnets. Jesse shivered, but if MT's metal skin bugged him, he didn't say anything.
They did close their eyes. Forehead lulling familiarly into the crook of Jesse's neck. They wiggled their nose as his hair tickled their face.
MT had never sat so close to him- or anyone. It sapped their energy in a way that was oddly pleasant. They didn't know how to explain it, but his presence left them pliant in a way they never could be when they'd been exploring on their own. If anything they should have been so hyperly aware of every point of contact that they couldn't bear to sleep at all. They found themselves drifting off either way.
Jesse rested his head atop MT's. Wiggling his arm to wrap it around their waist to keep their dead weight propped against him.
Alan Dracula sniffled at them curiously before snorting softly. As he laid behind the two of them, it became impossible to stay awake. Sleep had never come easily with danger lurking just behind every door. Even this car wasn't ideal. But they had each other. And they were as safe as they could be. It was enough.

ok I saw this once when it was in theatres when I was in high school and I never watched it again. I remember being disappointed and uncomfortable originally
I only remember Aang was pronounced differently and Katara was some blonde chick I remember literally nothing else so here we go
oh damn ok right away the bending animation is kind of giving but the weird cursive stylization of the element names in the intro… not a fan bc my bad Chinese reading self can’t read it and I wonder if that’s even like a real style lol I wouldn’t be surprised either way

tbh I'd still take a kid case over a normal filler case bc the normal filler cases are just SO boring. like back in the day there were even filler episodes in the anime which were more interesting than the manga cases nowadays. - - - but tbh kid cases also start to annoy by now bc of a) amouro. like wtf has a bo member/undercover agent to do w kid cases?? and b) HOW HAS NO ONE MENTIONED SONOKO'S UNCLR SO FAR? bc boyyyy I dislike him and it has become a pain in the ass to always have this old fart included in every damn kid case. like he's way too old to be that obsessed and be involved all the time. give me a break.
so overall, i prefer kid cases over the normal boring cases nowadays (since let's be honest even if it wasn't a kid case, we wouldn't have got an actual plot relevant case. we'd have just got a normal filler case again) but only if they are as good as the old kid cases again. I mean no honesty, remember all the old iconic kid cases? or even the cases that weren't really a kid case but he randomly appeared (like that amateur magician meeting or the gathering of all top detectives??) iconic.
but I guess kid cases could only become good again if the overall manga (cases) became good again - - which I don't see happening as long as gosho only does fanservice and follows what his label tells him. or perhaps it's also him just struggling coming up w anything good by now since having to come up w great cases for 26 years must be difficult, creativity wise. whatever it is, it sucks and he should rather finish it than ruining my fave manga/anime of all time.
(like they show the episodes up to 480 here on tv and I never get tired to rewatch them over and over again bc of how amazing they were. even the filler episodes!! the manga/anime nowadays can't relate... also bc of the anime's ugly style by now let's be honest)
I would prefer it if he actually decided to draw Magic Kaito cases and continue HIS story rather than having him appear in Conan him being... Not himself.
Because you have to admit. The Kid we see in Conan is not the Kaito we want to see. Kid in Conan is just this empty facade that gives us absolutely nothing. And I'm not talking about the dc plot like I was before. I'm not referring to the fact that Kid cases don't give us plot. I'm referring to how we don't even really get development for Kaito either as a character. Which makes sense! I mean, how can he develop as a character when he's not in his own manga/story/plot? It's impossible. Or it would suck if it happened. That's why I always say that I would rather put Conan in stand by for a month and get something juicy even if it's for MK, than have whatever the f it is we're getting. Because with this.. No one wins. Shinichi doesn't get anything because it's just a chapter meant for filler and fun and giggles (although the fun and giggles are not happening as much now... Because as you said, Kid cases are ALSO becoming boring, idc what anyone says. They are. They are boring. Just like the rest of fillers). Kaito doesn't get anything because his character keeps getting mixed up and confused with Kid, which is his main problem in fanon and why I find it difficult to enjoy fanon stuff with him (Kaito's personality is not Kid's peopleee), and every time his disguises, his heists, his personality get reduced to boring or repetitive things. And of course no one else gets anything either. No one.
So yeah. Imo, kid cases should go to the mk manga, let's get ittttt

giratina: niklaus can have a universe controlling god-like being of power. as a treat. mainly i wanted him to be MEGA intimidating, such as the only one w a legendary, as well as the fact giratina (despite its terrifying appearance + power to create dimensions) is technically there to keep balance is a nice nod to how niklaus isn't inherently some Evil Force but instead a neutral party playing both sides.
mega absol: what if i was your "this pokemon causes doom and destruction" theme but Stronger.

opla thots through eppie 5 so my brain don't explode:
i'm actually very pleasantly surprised. largely the stuff that is bad is stuff i expected and a lot of things are much better than i expected so like helleth yes we win
kobyyyyyyy perfect 100% i get why they're tying the marines in more for story purposes and idc honestly bc i get to see koby
helmeppo also good tho i could have done without seeing his full cheeks
as a fan there are a lot of small moments that really don't impact the overall story much but i did miss. like toppling the morgan statue. or sanji being present for the mihawk fight to see that devotion to a dream that motivates him to get on the sea. or the catboy being changed to a catgirl that one made me mad. but again does not affect the overall thing so w/e.
casting is so stupid spot on perfect and i've been saying that the whole time but good lord every new character is so insanely good
that said. they really desexied benn beckman. rip king.
why are luffy and usopp the only characters allowed to be fun. where is weird fun hardass grandpa garp. where is any major zoro dumbass moment. he's had a few but we can do better. oh my god i just realized jango wasn't here WHERE IS HE FUCK YOU. THE MENTION OF MIRRORBALL ISLAND IS NOT ENOUGH.
they did largely forget one piece is a comedy which i literally voiced as a worry out loud with my human mouth like an hour before i started watching. pain.
the design is largely extremely good. the costumes fuck every single time. cgi looks better than expected so i'm pretty pleased.
that said. the fishmen look like fucking dogshit i cannot take them seriously. i appreciate that they're using practical effects but my god they're so so so bad just for the fishmen.
on the other hand. enamored with the dendenmushi. they're real and they're vile and i want one soooooo bad
impressed that luffy's fx don't look way worse the only one i think looks bad is balloon and that's. tough.

i keep seeing folks in the tag praising the colors and how it's not dark and muddy and i don't think we were watching the same show. the clothes pop and sometimes they'll light a scene but any scene in the dark even a little bit is so washed out and bad looking it's got that netflix stank all over it like most of the circus tent and garp's ship and the final syrup village fight are dark jumbles
also why did we need two goddamn episodes for syrup village. that seems excessive. i feel like they could have cut things differently and ended up with more time for like. actual adaptation stuff.
zoro crying on the dock was so perfect no notes iconic moment
i did tear up when sanji first appeared so. there is that.
also when zoro one handed lifts that big safe. okay king!
zoro is too smart also in ways that he shouldn't be it's bothering me so much. like when he translates usopp's big wordy bullshit he does not know what those words meannnnn
that said. which way is port. it's to the left. ah okay. stands there and does nothing because he doesn't know which way left is either. also gets lost on his way to a house that's ten feet away and visible. more of this we need more of this so bad.
easter eggs so good so fun. cavendish wanted poster. island of weird animals in the end credits. certainly more i didn't catch. mwah we love it.
dialogue sucks shit also the worst element of the show is by far the writing where like the plot is fine the way they rearranged things doesn't bother me if i wanted the exact story in order i'd read it again but the actual lines they write are mostly so stupid bad and generic. every so often they hit on a good one but it's generally lifted straight from the manga.
they didn't even get gold roger's speech right. he didn't say he left it all in one piece. that's the fucking. it's the whole thing of it innit.
oh i need to mention cabaji specifically weird they gave him so much focus and backstory but he looked PERFECT i was hollering

also i love every shipper being like WE WON listen man i'm a shipper too and the only folks who won were the usokaya hets out there everything else is just as canon as it's always been (read: not even a little bit lmao)
now that said. opla usolu is Something which is wild bc i have never once been on this train but it hits different. not enough to make me abandon aroace luffy but still.
okay one more thing. zoro being in the stocks for 0.5 seconds to keep his job that he abandons immediately anyway instead of being there for weeks in exchange for the safety of a little girl sucks. it takes away so much of his character and feels like such a critical misstep to me but i'm also the zoro guy so idk.
anyway. overall very excited to finish the season and hoping we get more. it's surpassed my (admittedly low) expectations despite my issues with it and it's worth sticking with for sure.

REALLY GLAD that Belos didn't know about the (Clawthorne exclusive?) "let the pain be shared" spell, because like. He'd do that shit with the Grimwalkers. If it helped alleviate his curse. Hell, if he could afford having more people know about it, he'd probably make it a punishment for failing him enough times. Forget being stripped of your rank and kicked out of the Emperor's coven, welcome to a fate worse than death (and no, it's not petrification!).
Speaking of petrification... Would be kinda fucked up if did that to people/wild witches, too, before he petrified them.
He probably couldn't afford to do this because the curse messes with your ability to do magic, right? But still, if he could...
wellll, while i think yeah if he had the ability to make other people feel his pain he 100% would abuse that (i mean, he kind of already does take all of his problems out on everyone else around him, especially the grimwalkers, lmao), i think you've got some stuff wrong/are making some assumptions i don't necessarily think are supported here
there's no reason to assume that the thing is a Clawthorne exclusive vs just like, a little bit of wild magic that's been retained because it's a handy little rhyme that a kid can memorize - that's my take on it, anyway, it's like if "circle circle, dot dot, now you have your cooties shot" actually Did Something
as for the curse messing with the ability to do magic, Eda's curse saps her magic and eventually left her unable to do it at all, but we can't necessarily extrapolate from Eda's curse to Every Single Other Curse Ever. also, what Belos has going on is very much a different thing - his curse is what lets him do magic.
my understanding of his whole deal is that the weird goop deer-monster form is a result of eating palismen, and he eats palismen in order to be able to use the glyphs he carved onto himself - when he has his sudden painful-seeming attacks of destabilization, it seems to be when he's using magic and suddenly runs out of those internal palisman reserves, and therefore he needs more in order to be able to get himself back under control and maintain his human shape.
so he isn't necessarily even cursed in the same sense that Eda is - he's just kind of stuck in this endless loop of needing something to power the glyphs on his own body, because he doesn't have internal magic to draw upon due to lack of a bilesac, and the thing he settled on (consuming the souls of tiny magical animals) turns him into a shambling semisolid abomination, so he has to consciously maintain his human form, and when he runs out of magic he can't do that anymore (which is why i think he went monster form when Luz slapped him with the sigil - the draining spell sucked away his internal magic reserves, which were already low bc he hadn't had any palismen since s2e6 which was like, months ago, so boom, goop deer time)
so it's sort of unclear what, like, doing the pain-sharing spell would even do in that case? could make someone turn into a goop deer. could do nothing. probably would not give them any of his abilities since his abilities come from the glyphs he carved on himself, and the palismen are just what make the glyphs work.

spierverse 2 spoilers. but also a long post diving into Villains in recent (animated) movies
i dont rly plan to make any super long posts about all of this movie bc theres just SO much to think abt and a lot of people are saying what i would say. but i have thought a lot about the villain, The Spot. mostly in relation to my last fave animated movie's villains- Puss in Boots 2
PIB got a lot compliments for its villain(s). You had Goldilocks who was an antag but a character you can see some reason to sympathize with, but she isnt the big bad. You have Death who is a conflict to hinder Puss' progress, and then you Jack Horner who is a villain that you have no reason to feel bad for, as its shown many times how he is just a privileged ass. It was a movie that finally really had a bad villain you werent gonna see redeemed, and had no reason to see redeemed. Goldilocks was an antag as she was Puss' enemy but we had no reason to hate her, and her siding with them eventually made sense. Death's conclusion with Puss was less so any end for the Villain's arc but for a personal Arc Puss was facing that drove the main plot.
Many people saw this movie and were pointing out how bad Disney/Pixar's movies have been with villains. I cant even think of any villain in their last movies, theyre all so samey. and a lot are trying to be the same "oh well now you can feel a little bad for them because we showed some sad backstory!". its nice to have some times where theres a complicated grey antagonist that explores the divide in interests and pushes boundaries but thats not what Disney is doing.
Often times, Superhero movies have cut and dried villains. Not bad- its just that there is a formula. You have a guy with a name and a gimmick and they bad, they must be defeated. Even in comics where things get expanded on for backstories, sometimes with troubled pasts etc, it still doesnt change it? They don't get reformed and stop being the villain.
So lets look at the first Spiderverse before 2. Kingpin was the first (major) villain (along with some on the side) and they were established villains. The thing thats important with Kingpin is that while we were given information about why he is doing what hes doing, no one ever finds it as "okay". no one thinks they should just deal with it by fixing him or feeling bad for him, because Kingpin wouldnt take that. He IS awful, hes selfish and terrible. and Nothing he does outside of those personal feelings actually reflects that. Nothing else he normally does as a criminal is related to his family that he lost. These kinds of superhero villains are often already criminals with an intense violent history, and theyll keep being a criminal.
Going to Spiderverse 2, we get a villain thats a bit different, The Spot. Its interesting because he starts goofy- he actually is trying to be a criminal too actually. He decides because of his circumstances, he needs to rob and do things like that and its makes sense, he has no where to go. But hes so confident and normal about it, cocky etc, that you dont feel bad for him. hes not desperate or sad or begging with the weight of his sad backstory. Hes annoying, goofy, and no ones will take him as a serious criminal at first. And then he starts to explain more seriously what happened. And it STILL doesnt come across like a "woe is me" kind of story. He *still* annoying and cocky. he wants to be bad. he wants to destroy everything. Does it suck what happened to him? Yeah. Does it suck that it ruined his life?" of course. Do you want to redeem him? i mean no, i wouldnt. hes still a jerk. and thats the key thing.
you can have a villain who is relatable and grey but its not The Spot. Its not Kingpin. They had some kind of "tragedy" but they arent ever going to be good and you shouldnt use them as aan example and soften them up to be easily digested and garner sympathy with. thats just not the kind of story you can have all the time. you NEED to remind people, mostly kids, who the bad guys are. and the samey bland villains of disney havent stuck in my heads at all in recent years. its not to say their movies were all bad- i liked a lot of them (Encanto, Turning Red). But i can hardly recall any clear "villain" plot lines. Theres a time and place for those vague instances, and many times they just dont work because it makes the whole story so vague and directionless. It makes it hard to remember the key points when its not strong enough from its other elements.
I just feel like we are losing classic villains because people for some reason started to think it was boring and we needed more "nuance" but this "nuance" isnt.....that. its bland written media by big studios that cant actually have morally grey characters because it would actually be too sensitive for people.

It is I, anon from earlier today and I can now in confidence tell you that your fics have broken me down into nothingness.
Not only am I stupid and cannot read tags but I repeatedly let myself be comforted by your writing only to be hit with the sad truth at the end. You can’t keep getting away with this /j .Your style is so unique and I can feel the passion you have for the characters as you can see their inner turmoils on the writings. I love how you bring them to life
My personal favourite is Monologue (which is highly underrated btw). I love the dynamic between Fumi and Maki plus Fumi talking about her day made me smile so much. Then cane the gut wrenching feeling about Maki. Honestly you managed to balance the fluff with the angst out so well and I really adored it.
To conclude this annoying fan’s rambling, you are my favourite blue period writer and such a great storyteller. I know how you’ve stated that the fandom is quite inactive (cause it is) but your presence manages to be so outstanding to me. I don’t know why I was too nervous to follow now but I might as well write my letter of appreciation so it can be covered by the bots.
I hope you are able to continue doing what you love and have a great rest of day. 🙃

personally 'monologue' is quite the lackluster for me, i wanted to use the concept, i think i wanted to make it about ytyt with yotasuke that would tell yatora about the summer festival only to reveal at the end that yatora was unconscious the whole time so yotasuke wasn't talking with anyone, i got the idea while working on 'a psychological take' (where i wrote already a summer festival so it felt unnecessary to do it again) and at the same time i wanted to write fumimaki (bcs there's literally nothing for this married couple, almost canon i'd say, more canon than ytyt), so i combined both, i was still in a phase where i wanted to kill all characters and make them suffer which i think i did a lot and now i just want to write them relax and be happy (writing depression is hard), so it's not really that original inside my head, but im glad at least someone else likes it (for me billy of tea was way more fun to think about)
tbh i've been thinking about moving on from blp for quite a few months already but i simply can't find something else to interest me the same way ytyt does, which sucks bcs if i don't write then no one will write stuff, rn i want to finish this fic i'm sorking on (i hope i get to 100k), then a oneshot about ytyt soulmates and another oneshot about miki and ayano only, then idk, i think it would be good to retire (not to be petty actually, but i did write 40% of the words in the yatoyota tag on ao3)
fandom isn't really only inactive, it is now a bit (i continuously try to collect blp fans here and on twt, the more the merrier), but i just felt ignored since the anime was airing, again maybe it was the bad timing bcs i started posting my first fic towards the end of the anime when people lost the interest bcs that adaptation is horrible, then in february yamaguchi had covid and from march to july it was complete hiatus and then the whole dj drama (which i'd lie if i said the mob mentality to drop it didn't affect me too although i was the one to uncover the doujinshis on my own weeks before it got to twitter, anyway my idea was: this isn't a piece of media i care about and i am already deeply in love with blue period so whatever, my respect for yamaguchi decreased and i got a passive aggressive attitude towards her until she posted the new year ytyt picture with bunnies this january, now i seriously don't care abt whatever else she drew - also damn i'm really side railing with this)
