I don’t think anybody’s made this comparison yet but someone just DM’d me about how riptides are known for sweeping up, grabbing someone, and pulling them underneath the current by surprise, and then there’s Percy holding up riptide to grab Annabeth and pull her down into the stairwell by surprise. okay percy offering annabeth riptide in the arch in sword form to trick her into letting him sacrifice himself. okay annabeth taking riptide in pen form in the tunnel of love OF HER OWN WILL so that he could sacrifice himself. riptide is such a good symbol of percy’s connections… when they finally acknowledge their friendship percy give her it in PEN form.. its not just a sword its a tool that he wanted her to have… it’s a reminder of him…OKAY

This is such a small, stupid thing to be excited about, but I am SO happy that Riptide is going to be a capped pen again, not a click pen. It just never made sense to me why they would change it.
Riptide being a capped pen makes more sense plot wise! The point of the cap is that Percy can toss it away and it will later reappear in his pocket so he can put Riptide away.
With the click pen, he just....clicks the pen and it becomes a sword. But that means that all you have to do to put the sword away is click it again. Which would be REALLY easy to accidentally do in an intense battle.
Again, it's such a tiny, basically insignificant detail, but I outright pumped my fist when I watched him flick the cap off of Riptide in the trailer.
