This beginning generates three interesting plot points: 1. the relationship of the grand master and his former scholar. While equally engaged to preserve the Jedi order Yoda fears Dooku losing sight of the right way. Whereas Dooku criticizes the other Jedi for being too narrow-minded. 2. Dooku's worries about his friend Sifo-Dyas who his plagued by visions that the other council members dismiss. 3. one of the younglings seems to follow down Sifo-Dyas' path - a secret is hidden from Yoda. 📍 🌟Temple Life🌟 Luke Ross crafts the interior of the Jedi temple masterfully and captures the spirit of Yoda and Dooku dynamically. The colors are bright and engaging. Dooku reminded me very much of "Tales of the Jedi". {Poison Ivy 9} [🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇/5] 📍 "Poison Ivy" has been a great series so far. G. Willow Wilson nailed the writing of the emotionally confused Ivy and her slow yet steady redemption. This issue takes the plot one step further as Pam's beloved clown gf Harley arrives on scene. A slow-paced and deep issue which discusses the many facettes of the protagonist and starts to shape the future. {Punchline 4} [🦇🦇🦇🦇/5] 📍 The new Clown princess takes the leading role in her first solo series "Punchline: The Gotham Game" by which leads her right into a gang war. Black Mask has made some friends and want to befriend Pinchline's drug business as well. Not as long as she's something to respond to that (her response is sharp and metallic and hurts) 📍 🦇War Zone🦇 I enjoyed Punchline and Black Mask outplaying each other in this issue. That's extremely entertaining to watch. Let's hope their fight will be as epic as anticipated. Punchline is psychotic as always and that's what makes her so likeable in the first place - same as the Joker. Howard really stretches this point. Bringing back some favorites has been a smart move too. Scarface is always welcome to join the fight. 📍 🦇Colorful Demise🦇 This series is especially strong with the coloring. {Spotlight 1} [🦇🦇🦇🦇/5] 📍 In these new Spotlight posts the idea is to present entire series to you - those series I found to love and appreciate deeply. What better way to start than with the beloved Azrael - well-known to any Batman Fans as a zealous warrior as well as a short lived replacement for the Dark Knight (see "Knightfall"). In "Sword of Azrael" by @dannpgwatters he is not only confronted by other spiritual threats but also his own nature. The series got published by DC Comics from 2022-2023 and covers a total of 1 one-shot and 6 issues. 📍 🦇A Holy Journey🦇 I can't recommend this series enough. It's an amazing mix of epic action, philosophical self-redemption and comedy. Watters wrote an intruiging and graphic inner conflict between Jean-Paul Valley and Azrael at the end of which comes a better understanding of their combined nature. There were also enough references and tie-ins to other series (Vengeance from "The Joker", Pater Valley from "Catwoman") to let your fan heart beat faster. A well rounded journey of darkness and flaming light. 📍 🦇Trinity🦇 Nikola Cizmesija grants this biblic tour an enlightened look by the holy trinity of strong colors, dynamic outlines and strong contrasts. Especially the last one grants this series a distinguished look. While Jean-Paul wanders through diverse yet normal landscapes Azrael lives in Valley's spirit as a ghostly sphere. {High Republic: The Blade 2} [🌟🌟🌟🌟/5] 📍 Continuing the adventures of legendary lightsaber wielder Porter Engle and his close friend Barash @charlesdsoule delivers the second issue of "High Republic: The Blade". Let's see how it goes... 📍 🌟A patt situation🌟 The two protagonists arrive on the planet Gansevor where an on-going siege in one of the cities keeps the people occupied. Porter and Barash decide to step in but not before they examined every side of the coin. This task fills up the whole issue which is set straight on world-building. Luckily a very awesome action scene and a strong cliffhanger will keep you interested while reading. The very different methods of Porter and Barash to deal with the situation are emphasized by the author - I like the duality here. 📍 🌟Desert and Stone🌟 The whole scenery on Gansevor isn't very entertaining to look at. It certainly isn't the diverse landscape that will make you continue reading but rather the amazing lightsaber panels and the interesting character designs. {Sana Starros No. 1} [🌟🌟🌟/5] 📍 Sana Starros is a beloved character in the Star Wars comics and has already starred alongside Doctor Aphra. Now Justina Ireland and Pere Perez illustrate the first solo series of the smuggler. I'll give you a short overview why this concept only works out partly. 📍 🌟Family Drama🌟 Sana returns home just to slip right into a new adventure. Her family members plan a gigantic Coup and it's connected to a new unbeloved part of the family. The whole plot feels like a mediocre TV series which is at best boring. The only good points were the action scenes. They have been entertaining and spectacular, just nice to look at. 📍 🌟Strong colors🌟 The art style doesn't seem innovative however the colors really do it for me. Although already introduced in some special stories, "Bloodline" is Bri's first Solo series. {Star Wars Visions} [🌟🌟🌟🌟/5] 📍 "Visions" has been a surprising hit for me when the show first arrived on Disney+. Especially the Ronin episode left had a lasting impact on my Japan-loving self. While I definitely struggled with the novelization this comic continued the high class streak "Visions" had in my opinion. 📍 🌟Two boys sitting in a hot tub🌟 The plot in this one isn't exactly sophisticated - it's your typical "Ronin is calm before the Action goes down"-arc. However that's executed in an intruiging way by not only telling us more about Ronin's past but also introducing even more Japanese elements into the story. I'm all up for that! 📍 🌟Visions of Manga🌟 As the complete opposite of the usually full on colored-high saturity Star Wars comics "Visions" almost completely rejects colors. 99% of all elements are presented in black-white-grey. In this setting every drop of color hits double - making the majestic lightsabers look even more civilized. {High Republi: The Blade} [🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5] 📍 "The Blade" has finally arrived and I can't wait to witness the "rise of a legend" by @charlesdsoule with my own eyes! 📍 🌟An age of exploration🌟 150 years before the fall of Starlight Station Porter Engle and his fellow Jedi Knight Barash assist the exploration initiatives of the Republic. While the first is a formidable lightsaber duelist, the latter is extremely strong in feeling the guidance of the Force - a duo to be reckoned with! Soule lays out an extremely interesting companionship in an unexplored and dangerous part of the Galaxy. The first issue introduces us to our heroes and sets the foundation for future struggles. Part of the result are some amazing action scenes! 📍 🌟The Art Of War🌟 Even though the Jedi are keepers of peace Porter is a quick draw with his lightsaber and Marco Castiello gives a fresh and detailed look on this action. {Yoda #1} [🌟🌟🌟🌟/5] 📍 "Yoda" finally has arrived! Who hasn't waited for the wise frog Jedi master to give us another taste of the adventures from over 900 years? The first three issues by @cavanscottwriter tell the special tale of a distress signal... 📍 🌟Yoda to the rescue🌟 The first comic is partly really cool and entertaining. Especially seeing Yoda resist the other council members is satisfying and underlines his authority among the Jedi order. The adventure itself reminded me of "Yoda's secret war" which was a great little story. Primarily Yoda's calm and resourceful fighting style match with this appearance. All in all comic no. 1 was decent. The appearance of Edward Nygma marks the phenomenal beginning and it's worth every penny. 📍 🦇Riddle Me This🦇 Over and out for the good old question mark onesie and the riddles. Eddie has grown up and is as brutal and mysterious as he has never been before. Gordon and the GCPD are troubled with keeping this new menace at bay. When the Batsignal finally lights up the Dark Knight is forced to follow the classic rule of evolution: Adapt or Go Extinct! Will Gotham's hero learn the rules of Eddie's game and the Riddler's past soon enough? 📍 🦇Graphical Storytelling🦇 With the change of Eddie's character comes an interesting art style. Riddler green in light and dark variants cover the pages. The perspective alters many times and especially the identical point of view of beginning and end made a great impression on me. {The White Knight} [🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇/5] 📍 The one and only original Black Label story and it's awesome. @seangordonmurphy created a whole new universe apart from the main reality of the Dark Knight. 📍 🦇Change Of Perspective🦇 Everything changes sometime and in "The White Knight" it's over and out for the Joker. Gotham's most famous criminal is gone and Mr. Napier took his place, the self-procclaimed White Knight. By showing the people of Gotham what they're losing through Batman's self-centered war against crime he's trying to make a difference. Can the Dark Knight adapt to the new situation? Which side will Gordon and the GCPD choose? 📍 🦇Views Of A Time Of Change🦇 No matter if one might like the idea of Black Label or not - graphics are mostly top tier. And that's the same here. A brutal and unforgiving city of crime is shown by Matt Hollingsworth. Dark colors overweigh and the whole scenario looks dirty and rough. Well-known characters are instantly recognizable yet different.
