Haven't heard a good theory like this in m o n t h s.

terrence set sal up debunked

a while back i saw a theory suggesting that terrence lied to sal in ep 4, when he told sal that he needed to kill everyone tainted by the dark. initially, the theory made sense as when sal is on his killing spree, the residents are acting pretty normal and even nicer than usual. however, when i went back and studied the residents behaviour and expressions during sal’s spree, it’s very off. firstly, mrs. gibson appears outside her apartment asking sal for help. usually mrs. gibson is extremely rude and never comes out of her apartment; even going as far as to have a security lock on it. somehow she ends up outside of her apartment though, with the security lock still on.

how on earth did she get out of her apartment with the lock still on and why doesn’t she react to the fact sal is literally holding a knife right above her?? secondly, when sal goes to todd’s parents apartment to kill them, their expressions are the same as previously when sal and larry are destroying the seals and neither of them react to sal holding a bloodied knife.

plus, before sal kills todd’s parents janis asks sal if he has seen todd around, as they need to ‘talk to him’. it could be nothing but to me it sounds off. talk to him? more like try and taint him with the darkness too. anyways, next, the college kids.

this piece of dialogue from cj sounds pretty average, right? well, not exactly. he’s continuing what he and the others were saying when sal and larry were destroying the seals previously. ( if you can’t remember what the college kids were saying, they were trying to convince sal to stay with them and accept the darkness. party? more like ritual! )

and lastly and most heartbreaking of all: sal’s parents. when sal talks to them during the time he’s able to switch with larry while breaking the seals, they have this dull expression and negative outlook on life.

then, after the boss battle when sal is on his spree, henry is suddenly very proud of sal and kind towards him.

many people think this is normal, but sadly it’s not. see, henry became an alcoholic after the incident involving diane and sal and started to become a bit neglectful of sal in my opinion. in episode 1, while exploring the apartments for the first time, if you go and check on henry in his office after a bit you’ll see this

sal’s dialogue for seeing his dad passed out is “at least he’s trying. not completely giving up on life…on me…” which is, to say the least, pretty depressing. but anyways, in my opinion i believe terrence was telling sal the truth. because not only did terrence tell sal he had to kill everyone tainted to free them, the phantom ( aka jim johnson ) did too. i think the residents were acting 'nicer’ because that’s what sal wants. that’s his ideal world. he wants to help mrs. gibson, he wants his dad to be proud of him and to love him. not only that, no one reacted to sal holding a knife which is very odd. the residents sal killed definitely weren’t normal. the demon was more than likely making them act the way sal ideally wants so that sal would be less likely to kill them so the horrors at the apartments could continue. however, sal didn’t fall for the demons tricks.
