you don’t have to be a Zutara shipper to dislike Ka/taang

Most of my irl friends are not shippers and the word “Zutara” does not exist in their vocabulary, but they think Ka/taang is weird. Because a prepubescent boy with a teenage girl is weird. He’s a child. She’s a teenager. Anyone who stops and thinks about what they were like at twelve vs fourteen knows those were some long years.

I started getting the ick for Ka/taang in The Headband and it reached its apex in Nightmares and Daydreams. I didn’t even start liking Zutara until The Southern Raiders. I liked Katara with Haru but the creators sank that ship with a strategically placed moustache

I am a ZK shipper so things like parallels and symbolism and Katara’s development as an adult matter to me. But even without all that, I didn’t like Ka/taang. Because before my analytical brain jumped in, my lizard brain said “ick.”

I unironically love every avatar the last airbender fanmade comic or fanfic that was made by fans in the early 2000s. every character is completely oc. the plot is absolutely surreal and unhinged. the pairings are random and wild. and they all swear for some reason. and I eat it up even today

The writers removing the Kataang ship tease in NATLA makes total sense because they knew that there were serious issues with the way Kataang was written in the original series and that a lot of people did not like the pairing.

Additionally, they need to maintain audience interest so if they were to drop heavy romantic hints for Kataang in the first season then they could have been cancelled by Netflix because a lot of viewers would drop the series immediately.

Would y'all believe me if i said i once made a shitpost dunking on Zutaras for whitewashing Katara's personality and story to use her self-insert by saying Zuko would never date a white girl and some rando Z/K who's url i'd never even seen hoped onto it to say i'm actually the pressed one for 'spamming the tag'(I barely make og Atla posts),that i don't wanna let people ship the noncanon ships(I'm a Ty Luko stan above all else and over half the posts of it on here are by me and i've posted a good amount of Zukka,Katoph and Taang too)and added in the tags that they're 'sick of seeing me everywhere'(jealous people like me🤨?)and told me to 'grow up'(Ma'am we are both in the fandom for a nickledeon cartoon that ended close to a decade ago).And the kicker is that when i told them this and mocked them for being a weird asshole who dosen't know how to use the block button,they called my post 'a random racially charged statement'(I'm a half white black person),said i was 'playing the victim'(i was literally making fun of them),thought a peak comeback was screenshoting my bio to show i'm trans and have my special interests listed on it so people know if they're into what i post and can decide if they wanna follow me or not and even invented a 'termanlly online tag' just for me because i got that under their skin.I still can't believe that was a real thing that happened in 2023 and that they thought they were being the mature rational one over harrasing a stranger over 'understanding' a kid's show 'better than him' but i'm glad it did because IT WAS THE FUNNIEST FUCKING SHIT,ZUTARAS CAN'T BE REALLLLLLLL
