A Reminder on VesalBlood Project Fanworks Policy
we've been on hiatus for a little bit, and seeing as it looks to be in fashion, it's time for us to emerge from hiatus solely to shoot ourselves in the foot.
probably an ill omen to joke about that, but it seemed like the most eyecatching way to open a business as usual reminder. how're you all doing? this update's from rin's desk
feel free to skip this if you're mad about the clickbait or have already read the fanworks policy. there is a bit about translation at the end that may interest international fans, though.
GENERAL STUFF
I've gotten a few asks about this, and while it's covered on the official site, I wanted to lay things out here so that people who haven't checked out our beautiful hub (check it out! I like to think it's quite pretty!) know it in no uncertain terms
RI47 HEAVY INDUSTRIES fully supports all fanworks within the extent permitted to us by international copyright law, which we unfortunately must obey. would that I could tell you to break that, but I can't, so I shan't.
you can make zines, comics, fanfiction, games, songs, whatever you want. you have blanket permission to produce crafts, physical and digital, as long as you don't attempt to impersonate RI47, pass it off as official, or otherwise operate in a for-profit capacity. we ask that, in cases where you do want to sell something, you run it by us first (and send us a copy!)
TRANSLATION STUFF
because VesalBlood Project is the work of a small team (presently consisting of two permanent members and a few contributors), it's not currently viable for us to work on releasing anything in multiple languages. not gonna attach any sob stories here, but every member of the team is below poverty line and works on the project as a labour of love.
English speakers, as it stands, make up the majority of the audience. this means that releasing in English is the most viable way to make sure that VesalBlood is available to as many people as possible with a budget of zero. I regret that it's this way, but officially translating an unfinished work is unfortunately just not in the cards.
all that aside, while you have permission to translate and distribute things related to VesalBlood to your heart's content, we do have an official book of translation documents that has been maintained for the entirety of the project's existence. while these documents aren't publicly available due to containing spoilers for future projects, we would be happy to share relevant sections with anyone who would like to translate VesalBlood for a wider audience
if we haven't released something in your language, whether or not it's commercial, we'll look the other way if you happen to be offering it somewhere that it's otherwise unavailable.
while we have general translation notes for most localisation efforts, mainly detailing connotations of certain terms and which ones should remain untranslated, there are slightly more specific translation notes available for French, German, Japanese, Mandarin, Polish, Portugese, Russian, and Spanish efforts. these notes mainly contain information specific to speech patterns and the characters used in names, but contain a few "official" translations for trickier setting terms that don't exist outside of VesalBlood
all that being said, I don't personally recommend translating Diesem Fernen Traum yet, unless you specifically want to translate the beta version of a work-in-progress
translation is the greatest show of love that I, personally, think can be given to a work. sharing something with others even when it's not easy is a deeply beautiful thing, and I'm eternally thankful to everyone who's ever set out to do it
The Short of It
if you want to make fan merchandise related to RI47, you can do it as long as it's not for profit.
don't impersonate us (it's very rude)
if you want to make something based on RI47's works on a for profit basis, we can talk about it, but you need permission.
if you want to translate anything official from RI47, you can do it.
we have translation documents we want to share with you. it will make your life easier. there are some translations that were written in advance solely to take work off your shoulders.
if you release a translation of something that would otherwise be paywalled, we wouldn't hold it against you.
as an addendum to the previous note, if you want to translate something that would otherwise be paywalled, we would like it if we could work with you on the process
Diesem Fernen Traum is unfinished and subject to revision with time, so consider that before setting out to translate it
in this studio, we love and respect translators
until next time, rin

Hey there! My name is Marzo. I'm a graphic designer and illustrator most known for my zine work and my two AUs: Space Outlaws and Medieval 141. Here's a little about me and this blog:
My pronouns are she/her
I'm an adult (possibly even an adulty-adult)
I'm American
I pretty much only post my own content to this blog, reblogging other people's content very very sparingly
Feel free to use my art as pfps, banners, phone and computer wallpapers, etc, as well as including it in edts ONLY if you give credit to me and this blog
Do not repost or copy my art, ever
Check out all the art I post here using the #my art tag
My asks are always open! Please feel free to shoot me one about whatever you like :)
Onto my two AUs:
Tumblr media
Medieval 141 (Call of Duty)
I started developing this AU in late 2022 for very similar reasons as Space Outlaws: I got the itch to draw some armor and decided to use Soap and Ghost (characters from the game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II) as my outlet.
I'm currently writing a long format fic about this AU with my friends @sapphoaloy and @dumpsterskald called The Shield and the Shadow! You can read it on Ao3 here :)
Medieval 141 art Medieval 141 stories Medieval 141 lore
Tumblr media
Space Outlaws (Hermitcraft)
This project began in the summer of 2020 when I got the itch to design some futuristic space suit armor for TangoTek (a minecraft youtuber on the Hermitcraft server). Things quickly blossomed into creating space suits for ALL of the hermits and collaborating with the rest of the HC community (through tumblr asks and discord) to come up with elaborate backgrounds for each character. Multiple people have created written pieces and illustrations for this AU which I'm humbled, amazed, and extremely grateful for. Things have slowed down since 2020 as my interests have shifted, but I tend to revisit these characters every couple of months.
I'm currently working (VERY slowly) on a fic based in this universe called My Reality, Yours. Check out the hub for this project here and read the story on ao3 here.
Check out this hub post to get direct links to each hermit's Space Outlaws design, their lore, and other useful info!

Lmao, you summoned the blaseballers. Our goal is not merely to win, but to recruit more fans to our queer horror baseball simulator where we make little guys that are so fucked up.
Anyways, if any of you reading wanna get into it, we're on development break, so there's time to immerse yourself!
-Check out the blaseball maincord (and various team sidecords/resources),
-The blaseball wiki (independent, not run by FANDOM wiki),
-Blaseball Cares for fanmade merch, zines, posters, etc (all proceeds go to charity),
-You can get a link to the SIBR discord from fans on maincord if you wanna get into the stats, analytics, and programming aspects, or check out sibr.dev to see the tools they've made!
-As mentioned above, SIBR makes tools to help us better understand blaseball. One of these is Before.sibr.dev, where people can pick a season and day and re-watch past games! Helps fill in the knowledge gaps and boredom over development breaks.
-Whenever something exciting (or terrifying) happens, there's always someone asking, "Where is BNN?!" That's because Blaseball News Network is where us blaseball fans go for live coverage, team rankings, and more articles about current blaseball events!
-for a look at fanart and writing collaboration from a bunch our fanwork guys, check out itch.io for the blaseball zine jam works, as well as a variety of blaseball themed ttrpgs and games!
-the Garages on Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube, and Bandcamp for an expansive range of music, and ParkPark Rangers for some folksy stuff on Bandcamp,
our collection of podcasts:
Yell Parks Pod- run by members of the Magic, this is less blaseball related and more a general show about national parks!
Infinite Cities Blaseball- definitely the widest range of topics, but definitely blaseball related commentary. They're running a 24 hour charity stream event for cinco de mayo on twitch and maincord (starting @ 6:30pm EST) to raise money for the Southern California Immigration Project.
Blittle League Blaseball (run by The Splorts Hub)- Story driven, based on Blaseball itself
Blaseball Analysis Co.- Stats with the stat guys!
Archives Unlimited- mainly lore talk and team culture!
And our beloved youtube creators:
Blaseball -Round-ups for broad story beats/anchor suffering/comedy, live stream uploads from the devs answering questions and updates
Blaseball Blexplained- Explaining statistics, game mechanics, plot in much further detail than the roundups, and weather forecasts for active games.
Blaseball fan culture is very much about Making and Doing. Part of why I love it so much.
!!! Y'all heard anon!!

Pre-orders are now available for Focus Network (@horizonfanzine), the Horizon series fan zine I'm in! I wrote a story about a laid-back ex-soldier facing imposter syndrome after a new star shakes up his street-racing gang in the robot post-apocalypse ... aka the bros (gender neutral) from the racing mini-game. I love them. It will be at least six weeks or so after the zine comes out that this fic will go up on AO3. You can be the proud owner of ~a rare nem artifact~ (for six weeks or so)
Proceeds from the zine go to Bioneers, a "hub of social and scientific innovators with practical and visionary solutions for the world’s most pressing environmental and social challenges."

So, if Dead Planet is an adventure and A Pound of Flesh a campaign hub, then Gradient Descent is a stab at a Mothership Megadungeon. That is as horrible and punishing as you think!
Like, regular D&D megadungeons are awful places, you know Mothership is going to make it even more so. The idea here is that there is a massive, abandoned android factory at the edge of known space. The facility is under blockade — the corporations don’t want anyone going in. But people do — Divers — looking for valuable salvage (of which there is plenty). Plenty of danger, too, in the form of blockade enforcement teams that regularly kill everything they encounter, a rogue artificial intelligence with diabolical plans and the Bends, a psychosis in which humans begin to think they are androids. Diving into the the Deep is going to almost always result in death, madness and maybe, on occasion, a tidy profit.
It’s absolutely every bit as punishing and disturbing as you likely expect. A lot of this is artist Nick Tofani’s fault. I hate (by which I mean, love) his horrible drawings. They have a squishy sense of corruption that reminds me a lot of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark illustrator Stephen Gammell.
I will say that Gradient Descent is a bit punishing to read as well. The text is small, the layout…aggressive. Gradient Descent probably represents the saturation point for how much information you can cram into a 64-page zine. I wouldn’t mind getting this reissued in a roomier version, even if the claustrophobia of the layout lends something to the atmosphere of the adventure.

Transmedia Storytelling, Zines, and Solarpunk
I think that transmedia storytelling is like a superpower for creatives in the modern era. In a weird way, it feels like a mirror for how we experience life and share culture. For my friends that I don’t talk to every day, I can keep up with them on social media. They use different social media for different purposes. If I want to know what they’re doing in an unfiltered way, I go to BeReal. If I want to see the coolest things they’ve done recently, I go to Instagram. If I wanna see how they interact with their family, I go to Facebook. On any given day, I can take all of these story fragments, and use them to create a mosaic of their life. I can use the story fragments to craft a full, cohesive narrative, that is more engaging than if it was just given to me all at once. There’s just something so fun about putting the puzzle pieces together.
At its most foundational level, transmedia storytelling is the process of making stories fractal. This allows you to tell a story that can be told through movies, books, comics, games, and other mediums, each offering a unique perspective on the same story world.
One of the reasons that transmedia storytelling is so powerful is that it allows for a more immersive and engaging experience. Instead of being given a complete story all at once, in one form, transmedia storytelling allows the audience to piece together the story themselves by consuming different parts of it through different mediums. This creates a conversation between the story and the audience and gives the audience some ownership.
There are a few examples of transmedia storytelling, with franchises like Star Wars and Assassin's Creed, which have expanded their stories through movies, books, comics, and games. The SCP Foundation is another example, with its entries, films, and games all contributing to the same story world.
Now that we have a good understanding of transmedia storytelling, I want to get into a transmedia project that I want to try.
To test out this model, I plan to create a small, intimate story world across a couple of different mediums using a process that is focused on co-creation, liberatory design, and radical inclusion and diversity. By working closely with the intended audience and prioritizing unique perspectives and experiences, I believe that transmedia storytelling can be a powerful force for change in the modern era.
One of the most classic ways to share unique perspectives is through the zine format. They’ve gone in and out of style within the past few years, but I think it’s a great way to share unique ideas. I want to make a zine that acts as a hub for different pieces of solarpunk stuff from art to nonfiction essays and direct action, where all of the pieces connect to tell a larger story.
I think the first issue will be a solo effort, with my own works, and then future issues will be collaborations between me and whoever else makes cool solarpunk stuff.

Coming soon: Home of Metal presents 'At The Mermaid'
The Mermaid was a large, dilapidated pub in Sparkhill, a working-class neighbourhood three miles south of Birmingham city centre. The laid-back landlords welcomed teenage punks, hippies and rockers to play weirdo music in the upstairs room, charging very little money for very bad cider. The Mermaid became a hub of DIY music scene in the 1980s, with £1 gigs, punk all-dayers, zine and tape swapping. It was also a site of political education for many, and hunt saboteurs gathered at the Mermaid before taking direct action.
In creating this podcast, we interviewed people who were part of the Mermaid scene, featuring contributions from Justin Broadrick (Napalm Death, Godflesh, Final), Nicholas Bullen (Napalm Death), Stig C Miller (Amebix), Steve Charlesworth (Heresy), Steve Watson (Cerebral Fix), Mark Freeth (Ausgang) and more musicians and fans who made the Mermaid scene at vital place for underground music.
Music heritage is all about the stories we tell around these little scenes, shining a torch on underground histories that could otherwise be forgotten in a haze of scrumpy and mushrooms.

A Super Brief History of Fanfic
There is a pretty good argument that Christianity is just one really big intense fan culture. People have been writing fanfic about stuff like Abrahamic religions and Greek mythology for centuries. I mean when I was younger I was obsessed with the Goddess Girls series which was just basically more mainstream fanfic (for those who don’t know GG was just about characters from Greek mythology going to high school lol). And nowadays in an increasingly godless country, it seems people are filling that void with fan culture. “Followers of a story wanting to create their own version or a continuation of said story is nothing new — humanity has been doing it for centuries,” says Sean Aitchison in an article about fanfic history. In fact on the topic of BBC Sherlock again, fan culture surrounding the original Sherlock Holmes in A Study in Scarlet is one of the oldest examples of something similar to modern fan culture, without the internet of course lol.
And something else that is much more boring but deeply contributed to the proliferation of fanfic/fan culture is copyright laws (Woohoo!). They like didn't really exist until like late 1700s but with the short protection time of like 40yrs or so and the expansion of alternative media dissemination methods made for a “fanfic powder keg ready to explode” according to Aitchison.
Spock kinda caused the whole rise of modern fan culture with the sheer popularity of Star Trek in the ‘60s. Fan Fiction was formerly a counter to Pro Fiction that was meant to convey that the work was written by an amateur. There is one specific piece of fan media that stands out which is Spocknalila which is a Star Trek zine. Spocknalia was one of the most widely viewed fan media, and so while not the first it deserves a mention in the history.
The first fanfic dedicated website is the iconic fanfiction.net. While arguably a little less popular than ao3 now, fanfic.net was really the first major internet hub for fanfics. Around the time that fanfiction.net was booming was the height of the X-file and Harry Potter crazes. This boom of online participation in fan media created the “everyone’s doing it” mentality says Aitchison. This really allowed for fan culture to build itself into the monolith it is today.

Come join us for a ZSAP x HUB x OSC x CAPS Event on November 7th from 3:30pm-5pm, hosted in the Mardigian Library ALC, Room 1212. Some food and refreshments will be provided. We hope to see you there!
A Zine About Students as Partners (ZSAP) is collaborating with the Hub for Teaching and Learning; the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution; and CAPS  to gather a small group of faculty and students for a conversation about our campus culture related to academic integrity. This will be a time of story telling and listening across the (sometimes inhibiting) student-faculty divide. There will be a series of writing prompts which encourage participants to tell each other about a time that academic integrity became salient in their life on campus. The hope of the Zine is to include an anonymous selection of these stories in the Fall 2022 issue of the Zine, similar to the collaboration with Lyceum in the first issue. The goal for the event and for the publication is to raise awareness of the wide variety of responses that students and faculty have (both shared and divergent) to encounters with the academic integrity policy. Ultimately, we hope to begin to have a broader, shared understanding of what the “harm” is (and is not), from which an academic integrity policy is designed to protect students, faculty, and campus.

[Plasmashipping Fic]
"Maybe there's A Chance"
On the deck of the bounty, a certain brunette was training away with the equipment on board. kai has been up here since early morning, fighting the metal dummies that opposed as his threat.
His hand moved in a circular motion, the katana in his grasp following his movement. He swung his hand forward, sending a blow on the dummy, creating a long diagonal mark on it.
Stepping back, he turned his upper body around and aimed his weapon on the dummy behind him. The head of the dummy made of hay flew across the deck and landed right beside the pole.
His head whipped towards the sudden shuffle he heard, aiming his katana at the intruder.
Jay held his hands up, his body leaning backwards to avoid the blade pointed at his neck. "Woah there, Kai!" He spoke in a shaky voice, "I-I uh didn't m-mean to startle you! Haha!"
Kai took a moment to process what just happened. He glanced at the smaller male skeptically, only then noticing the ginger's strange mannerisms. Jay had chapped, dry lips as if he peeled it off himself, beads of sweat forming on his forehead as well as that awkwardly stupid smile plastered on his face, and...
The sleeveless shirt he's wearing.. it's Kai's.
"Why are you wearing my shirt?!" The hothead exclaimed, weapon lowering and face burning red. Probably a shade of red that's darker than his ninja gi. He watched as Jay's face flushed in embarrassment as the guy glanced down at the cloth he's wearing.
"S-so-sorry! It's l-laundry day and a-all my clothes are i-in the dryer still!" He said in a hurry. "I s-saw this o-on the couch and I had nothing to wear s-so---!"
His rambling was cut short when a snort came to earshot, followed by a wholehearted laugh from Kai. He glanced up at him, eyes glued to the taller male in astonishment and awe. It's rare to see Kai laughing like this. He swore he could see aesthetic lights and fluffy clouds around the red ninja.
Shaking his head, he refused to believe his stupid little crush, or as he calls it. He thought that the reason he had the weird urge to get close to Kai was to get to Nya. It was really the only logical reason, seeing that he and Kai didn't really have much to talk about apart from missions they were sent together.
The longer he spent with the hothead, the closer he came to realization. It wasn't Nya he had a thing for.
It was Kai that he liked.
It became harder and harder to interact. The thought of confessing crossed Jay's mind but he knew he would never attempt it, ever. He always thought that Kai was probably homophobic and that if he said anything about how he feels towards the hothead, he was sure he'd be hated.
So he kept his feelings hidden.
"This is why you do laundry every week," Kai mocked, a hand on his hip. He gave out a smirk, propping the katana over his shoulder, the blade facing upwards.
Jay rolled his eyes at him, "Yeah, yeah, I know," he huffed, hands shoved in his shorts. His eyes darted to the floorboards of the bounty, a sigh escaping his throat. "Something wrong, bud?" He shook his head at Kai's concern, eyes staring off into the distance.
"Nothing..I just have this thought in my mind." He said softly, "I just can't get rid of it."
"Yeah? What's that?"
He shook his hand, waving his hand dismissively at the brunette, "I told you, it's nothing."
Kai approached the weapon's rack, "Well, if you're not gonna tell me," He started, reaching out to grab a pair of nunchucks from the shelf. He swung it with one hand, throwing it across to Jay, who caught it in his hands. "Why don't we spar? If I win, you gotta tell me. If you win, I'll shut up about it."
Jay thought for a moment.
This proposal is a chance for him to confess but it's also a ridiculously huge risk. Knowing Kai, even if he did win, he probably won't stop pestering him about it in some other way he can.
Having made a decision, he took a deep breath and stood up, "You're on. 'Course, you won't stand a chance against the master of lightning!"
"Oh we'll see about that!" Kai launched at him, katana held high, preparing to slice. He swiftly dodged Jay's nunchucks, moving to the side. His opponent reached out for the low pole, grabbing it before swinging to his opposite side, a good feet away. "I know you well enough, Kai." Jay smirked, hands gripping tightly onto his weapon of choice.
"Let's see how you like electricity!" He maneuvered to his left, dodging a slice from Kai. He used his element to send an electric shock throughout Kai's body, sending him a few feet away.
Kai panted, his body slightly bent over as he had a hand over his stomach. "You've gotten good at close combat." He huffed, trying to stabilize his breathing, "Didn't think you'd actually land a blow."
"I learn from the best!" Jay grinned, giving Kai a thumbs up. He's sparred with the hothead countless times before this one. It's become some sort of tradition for the both of them, sparing whenever the others are out on individual missions and they would be left alone in the bounty with nothing else to do.
Although Jay's way of spending his time was just playing videogames, he also enjoys watching Kai train from the shadows. Yeah it's a bit creepy, he admits, but hey, with that ripped body, and well, being Kai, who wouldn't want to watch him train those muscles?
"But you're easily distracted,"
Jay gulped, head held high as Kai's blade barely touched his neck. He chuckled awkwardly, "It's not my fault!" He avoided eye contact as the taller male chuckled at his antics. "Seriously, you gotta work on that. If this was real combat, you'd be dead meat by now." He shook his head, though a smile stood prominent on his lips.
".. it's not my fault you're so dreamy," Jay muttered underneath his breath, cheeks slightly puffed. He let out a sigh of frustration the moment the katana's blade was removed.
Eyes staring up at Kai's smug expression, he sighed, "Fine."
With another gulp, he placed a hand on the nape of his neck and the other in his pocket. "It's about relationships."
"Is it about Nya?" Kai questioned, an eyebrow raised at the ginger as he waited for his response patiently.
"No..not this time anyway." Jay said, "It's about those guy to guy relationships. I've been.. thinking lately. Girls just hasn't worked out for me. Heck, you can see it with Nya already. I just.. thought.. maybe--"
"Having a romantic relationship with a guy would work better?"
"..yeah?" He said, though it sounded more of a question. He avoided making eye contact with the other male, embarrassed and afraid of what he might say next.
Though Kai's next set of words surprised him, "If you were going to come out of the closet, you should've told me earlier." Kai said with a soft smile, "I'm not one to shame people for liking the same gender. I'm bisexual myself, so I know what you're going through. The only thing that's different between us is that most guys would find you cute, but hey, that's an advantage, I guess?"
The ginger blinked a couple of times, processing what Kai had just said to him.
When he regained his grip on reality, he furrowed his eyebrows, "Did you just imply that I'm cute?"
Kai shrugged, "Maybe."
With a light laugh, he propped his weapon on the desk alongside the pair nunchucks Jay used during their spar, "Anyway, it's getting late. I'll see you back inside, cutie," He pecked Jay's cheek before heading back inside, leaving the ginger in a flustered state, "Shoot he just got really hot all of a sudden,"

Getting Started with Erotic Hypnosis
[I don’t really use Tumblr anymore, but I’m crossposting this from Fet to have somewhere public to link to it! These days, I’m most active on Twitter @sexobsessedlesb, my smut lives on ReadOnlyMind, and my files live on YouTube.]
So you've heard some folks evangelizing at play parties, you've read some hot smut, and you've decided you're excited about Erotic Hypnosis™. Well, I don't blame you, cuz it's objectively the hottest kink (she said, objectively). But how do you start practicing it for yourself? I mean, you can do what I did and just sort of flail until you somehow found yourself firmly embedded in the community, but if you want a slightly less chaotic approach, here's where I might start:
Read(/Listen)
The "Bible of hypnokink" is Mind Play by Mark Wiseman. This is probably the best place to start for anyone interested in this kink!
9 Persisting Misconceptions About Hypnosis, a zine by sleepingirl and GleefulAbandon
Two Hyp Chicks is a delightful, educational, and often v hot podcast about hypnokink by sleepingirl and cckitten.
Hypnotic Amnesia by Lee Allure and DJ Pynchon is a bit more niche, but still a super neat window into how this kink works and one of the specific, rad things you can do with it.
Wank
Go read/watch some porn. Seriously. There are some links in the preamble above, I'll wait. Take the porn with a grain of salt, because it's not necessarily realistic, but it can definitely give you a sense of what parts of this play turn you on, which will help you figure out what in the hypno-sphere you actually want to get up to. A handful of specific suggestions:
ReadOnlyMind is the shiny new hub for hypno-smut and smut for its related kinks!
In particular, the #real-play tag (and probably handful of analogous tags) contains smut about erotic hypnosis as it's practiced in real life, rather than fantasy mind control stuff
The Erotic Mind-Control Story Archive is probably the biggest repository of written material, though also very inconsistent in quality, and can be Problematic(tm). Still, it has been responsible for many orgasms in its time
Mesmerotic: real hypnokinksters doing real hypnokink and being extremely fuckin’ hot about it!
Entrancement: this is the real deal. Erotic hypnosis done by an actual erotic hypnotist, it actually gives you a pretty good idea of how this sort of play might work
Jukebox is a rad and particularly prolific writer. I mention him in particular because he has so much stuff out there that if you browse his archive, you're sure to find a story or two that catches your eye
Other authors that I particularly like:
My smut lives here
h-sleepingirl
EllaEnchanting
Ari (see also: Tumblr)
And dream-operator
Go to Classes
Honestly, the best way to learn about this stuff is to go to classes! Look for your local hypnokink group—if you live in/near a reasonably-sized city, I bet you have one—or go to one of the many rad hypno cons out there. Here's a list of groups and conventions.
You can learn from people who have been doing this for a while, and maybe even more importantly, just meet some people!
Meet Humans and Chat
You can find experienced hypno-players with whom to shoot the shit either in person (at classes/cons/events) or on the interwebs. There are a lot of us on Twitter (e.g. I'm over there as @sexobsessedlesb, look at the folks I follow) and a few stragglers remaining on Tumblr.
It's also pretty probable that your local hypnokink group has an online chat (e.g. a Discord server). Ask!
Practice
Honestly, this is the hardest and most useful part. If you wanna get into this kink, practice is key! It's the only real way to develop these skills—and this is true on either side of the pocketwatch, as it were. How to do it, though?
With a play partner
As either a 'tist or a subject, it's easiest to learn the ropes with an experienced partner to guide you through. You can find play partners at events or on the interwebs, as mentioned above. (Note too that hypno is particularly well suited to long-distance play—you don't need to be in the same place with these folks to practice with them!) I'd add: at kink events, mention hypno in your cruising post! There are hypnokinksters everywhere, I bet you'll get some responses.
You can definitely practice this stuff with someone else who's new to the game, though, as long as you both communicate lots! Talk about what does and doesn't feel good, and experiment until you find stuff that works for you. And don't hesitate to reach out to your hypno-scene contacts for help and advice!
For 'tists: if you feel uncomfortable making up your own inductions, you can start reading from scripts, to get a feel of how hypno works! But I'd encourage you to start making stuff up as soon as possible, because it helps you gain fluency, and ultimately makes you a better hypnotist.
By yourself
Self-hypnosis is a great way to practice hypnokinky stuff! There are a lot of greatttt hypnosis files out there. Some folks I'd particularly recommend:
My stuff :-)
Lee Allure
Chew Toy
The Secret Subject
Ella Enchanting
DeepDiscourse
Impish
Tennfan
Imaginatrix
Sinister Denial
For hypnotists: if you're comfortable with it, I definitely recommend trancing a little yourself, just so you can get a feel for what it's like, and better understand your subjects' experience. Regardless of whether you personally want to practice trancing, I'd still recommend listening to some files and getting a feel for how other hypnotists do things—it'll help you develop your own style!
With a pro
Paying a professional for a session—whether it’s play or a lesson—is a great way to dip your toe in hypnokinky waters while knowing that you’re in good hands. Check out:

Old School X is a project interviewing X-Files fanfic authors who were posting fic during the original run of the show. New interviews are posted every Tuesday.
Interview with Audrey Roget
Audrey Roget has 10 fics at Gossamer, with some different ones at AO3, fanfiction.net, and her website. You might know her from her very good fics or as part of Musea, a collective that all wrote fic and posted X-Files fic recs. I’ve recced some of my favorites of her stories here before, including Three Times Dana Scully Didn’t Go to San Diego for Christmas and The Shirt. Big thanks to Audrey for doing this interview.
Does it surprise you that people are still interested in reading your X-Files fanfics and others that were posted during the original run of the show (1993-2002)? A little, yes. Not so much by folks who were around in those days. I sometimes go hunting for beloved stories from the early years, both those I read and loved, and those I never got around to. I am always delighted to hear that later generations of fans have stumbled across my stuff, especially since I haven’t posted anything new in a number of years. It’s fantastic that both years-long fans and new ones are out there continuing to rec fic from all eras, and to maintain archives for fans yet-to-be born. What do you think of when you think about your X-Files fandom experience? What did you take away from it? What did you take away from your experience with X-Files fic or with the fandom in general? It may sound corny, but the main thing I think of, and the thing that has ultimately been most valuable and lasting, has been the friendships. The feeling of having found a tribe – not just of TXF fans, but of other people who could be as enthusiastically engaged as I was (if not more so) with fictional stories and characters – was mind-blowing. Since I was a kid, I had often mulled over the books/movies/TV I loved and speculated internally about what happened off the page or off-screen, or created new stories for characters in my head. But, except for an elementary school phase where I and my two BFFs regularly played Charlie’s Angels, I hadn’t engaged in that kind of gleeful immersion in a fictional world with others until TXF fandom. My involvement in fandom followed pretty quickly from getting hooked on the show, so for me, it’s all one big ball of experiences. Even as my interest in/involvement in fandom has waxed and waned over the years, I’ve been lucky to remain friends with wonderful people who I originally connected with as fellow fans.
Social media didn't really exist during the show's original run. How were you most involved with the X-Files online (atxc, message board, email mailing list, etc.)? What got you involved with X-Files fanfic?
My initial entrée to the fandom was through fanfiction. I didn’t get interested in the show until mid-season 5. Around the same time, I read an article in a zine called Might (co-founded by Dave Eggers) about this thing called fanfiction that people would write and publish online. At first I thought it was satire or a joke – the fic cited involved Wilma Flintstone and a polished sabre tooth, as I recall – but then realized this was an actual thing. So I figured that a show then at the peak of pop culture must have fanfiction, and I went looking. Early on, I scrolled atxc on a daily basis and downloaded stories. But I didn’t engage in discussions about the show on Usenet, since I only knew how to access it with my Earthlink email client, and I didn’t want to post using my real name.
Later, I set up a pseud address with Yahoo and subscribed to a couple of email fanfic/discussion lists, and stayed subscribed to those for years. There was also a period in there somewhere – of maybe only a year or so, when I think about it – when I’d often nerd out into the wee hours with other fans via IM chat groups. That was around the time the small writers’ collective Musea was founded, and we were active for several years after the show’s initial run. In the early aughts, I followed many authors to LiveJournal and eventually set up my own account and stayed involved in fandom that way, until it mostly dispersed as well. What was it that got you hooked on the X-Files as a show? In a word: Chemistry. I had casually watched a couple of episodes during the first four seasons, but I’m not a huge sci-fi/horror fan at heart, and the story lines didn’t immediately grab me. But I happened to tune into The Red and the Black in 1998, and BOOM. For the first time, the intense layers of emotion and attraction between Mulder and Scully really struck me – and then of course, upon further viewing, I realized it was unmissable, an essential element in the fabric of the show. As a wise woman once said, a switch had been flicked. Mulder and Scully’s magnetism was like nothing I’d ever seen, and though I eventually came to appreciate the storytelling, humor, production values, and other components that made the series so successful, watching those characters interact has always been what kept me coming back. Were you involved with any fandoms after the X-Files? If so, what was it like compared to X-Files? I was part of a list-serv discussion group for The West Wing for a while, which was a fun melding of character and plot analysis with political discussion. Later, I got into the House, MD fandom, again mostly as a fanfic reader/writer. I was finding that other fandoms, unlike TXF, were more dispersed, the networks of people structured more loosely, if at all. There were fanfic and discussion communities on LiveJournal, and fanfiction.net was the other main hub for posting and reading, but if there was anything centralized like Gossamer, Ephemeral, or the Haven, I never found it. Within all those fan communities, as in TXF, there were partisans for various characters and pairings, and flame wars erupted over plot developments that outraged this faction or that. One main difference was that those other shows had larger, ensemble casts and more varied subplots. So on one hand, there was more opportunity to explore back stories and multiple perspectives. In House MD in particular, there were several entrenched rival shipper camps, which were about equally grounded in canon, rather than TXF’s central ship. I was less into TWW fic, but my impression was that readers were less militant about their pairing preferences than TXF or House fans. Who are some of your favorite fictional characters? Why?
I was deeply fascinated by Greg House for several years. (And the love-hate chemistry between him and Lisa Cuddy was a strong draw for me.) House MD came early in a wave of TV shows centered on anti-heroes, and Hugh Laurie brought amazing complexity and thoughtfulness to the character.
Philip and Elizabeth Jennings (The Americans) are a lethal pair of antiheroes. The inherent moral conflict of a sympathetic narrative from their POVs, and the global political conflict they embody was TV catnip for me. The internal struggles at the hearts of those characters were so exquisitely written and performed, they completely fascinate me.
The West Wing felt so much like a show created specifically for me. I’m especially fond of story arcs and scenes that centered on CJ Cregg, Charlie Young, and Josh Lyman. Though I loved Martin Sheen’s human portrayal of Jed Bartlet, the fact that he was the President always made him a little untouchable in my mind. But CJ, Charlie, and Josh were basically hard-working functionaries who were ambitious and idealistic and funny and flawed, and they spoke to me. What is your relationship like now to X-Files fandom? Do you ever still watch The X-Files or think about Mulder and Scully? Do you ever still read X-Files fic? Fic in another fandom?
I do continue to think about Mulder and Scully and watch episodes somewhat often. I’ll sometimes run a favorite episode as background when I want something comforting on. I read TXF fic pretty regularly, which can inspire me to go back and watch a particular episode or story arc I haven’t thought about in years. Just recently, I started listening to The X-Files Diaries podcast (@XFDPodcast, @admiralty-xfd), and that’s a fun dive into the characters, and how other fans react to and interpret episodes.
Every once in a while, a TV show or movie – and more particularly, the characters – will grab my attention and make me curious about how fanfic writers have interpreted the original material. Random example, I saw Singin’ in the Rain for the first time in a theatre a couple of years ago, and the chemistry of the three leads sent me to AO3 as soon as I got home. I also loved the first season of Mercy Street and found some well-done stories in that fandom. I usually peruse the Yuletide gifts every year and have been amazed by the sheer variety, creativity and cheekiness of the output. There are a bunch of other shows I’ve followed faithfully, and sought out fanfic – Broadchurch, The Killing, Agents of SHIELD, Elementary, The Good Wife. Although I’ve found some well-written stuff in those fandoms, I’ve rarely gotten the same charge from them as reading TXF fic. Do you have any favorite X-Files fanfic stories or authors?
syntax6 (@syntax6) – Universal Invariants/Laws of Motion. I’d also shout out to syn’s Hunter fics, too – well worth reading even for those who have never seen or particularly loved the show itself.
JET – I re-read Small Lives Awake every year around Thanksgiving time. Other annual holiday re-reads: Revely’s The Dreaming Sea and Jordan’s Through the Fire (both set at Halloween).
Amal Nahurriyeh’s Casey universe – the rare post-col fic that felt hopeful, made extra intriguing by a kick-ass original character. [Lilydale note: the series starts with Machines of Freedom and has lots of additional fics and snippets.]
Prufrock’s Love – Finding Rokovoko was genuinely terrifying and tender.
melforbes (@melforbes) – Seaglass Blue is a recent favorite, lyrical and bittersweet.
These are just a few (apologies to those that didn’t come to mind immediately). Fortunately for readers, there’s an astonishing number of authors who have written in TXF fandom whom you can depend on for a good yarn, insightful character study, and/or ingenious “fixes” where 1013 went awry.
What is your favorite of your own fics, X-Files and/or otherwise?
Probably the two set in my own (former) backyard of Southern California: Enivrez-vous and Ravenous. I’d first read the Baudelaire poem that was the source of the former’s title back in university days, so I was tickled to be able to use a few lines as an epigraph. Do you think you'll ever write another X-Files story? Or dust off and post an oldie that for whatever reason never made it online? It’s not out of the realm possibility. I’d meant for “Three Times Dana Scully Didn’t Go to San Diego for Christmas” to be followed up with “And One Time She Did.” In fact, the idea for that never-finished story was what inspired “Three Times” in the first place. I have a couple of scenes sketched out and – unusually for me – even know exactly how to end it. Every year, November rolls around, and I think I should finish and post it…maybe in 2021?
Where do you get ideas for stories? Sometimes it’s from my environment. “Enivrez-vous” and “Ravenous” describe places that I’m fond of, that made me want to place Mulder and Scully there. “What Not to Wear” has that element too – I set it in Memphis as a tribute to a great trip there with a sister Musean. But WNTW was also inspired by a kink challenge in a years-ago LiveJournal thread, so sometimes ideas come from fandom discussions or even other fanfics. In the House MD fandom, a fic by another writer made me want to continue the story, and the author kindly allowed an authorized sequel. What's the story behind your pen name? I wanted my pseudonym to sound like it could be a real person’s name – or at least, maybe like a romance writer’s pen name – rather than an online handle. I also wanted to use a slightly obscure fictional character, to amuse anyone in the know. I had long had a bit of an obsession with Whit Stillman’s 1990s film trilogy, which started with Metropolitan; the 3rd installment, Last Days of Disco, came out the same year I started down the TXF rabbit hole: 1998. The central heroine of Metropolitan – who is mentioned in or makes a cameo in the other two – is Audrey Rouget, a lover of Austen and, eventually, a book editor. I altered the spelling of the last name as a nod to every writer’s companion, Roget’s Thesaurus. Do your friends and family know about your fic and, if so, what have been their reactions? I have a few close friends – from outside TXF fandom – who know that I’ve written fanfic. I don’t know if they know my pseud; if they do, or if they’ve ready any of the fic, they haven’t said so to me. They are fannish sorts themselves, but not really TXF fans. A smattering of other friends and family members know or could intuit that I’ve been a fangrl on some level for years. My boss, whom I’ve known for about 3 years, recently mentioned off-handedly that she was really obsessed with TXF “back in the day,” and I am DYING to know if she got involved in fandom, but don’t think I’ll ever work up the courage to ask.
Is there a place online (tumblr, twitter, AO3, etc.) where people can find you and/or your stories now? Most of the X-Files stuff continues to be generously and steadfastly archived by Forte at The Basement Office. The House MD stories and some TXF things are at fanfiction.net; same for AO3. If ever post anything new, it will probably go to TBO and AO3. I really ought to get it all together in one place, one of these days…

Visual Presents
“Research and find a creative place/hub/company that you would LOVE to work with or for. Create an information package about them that communicates what they are all about (see more info below)—the final outcome could be a website, a poster, a product, a package, a book, a zine, an app, a digital document etc, be creative).”
My dream job would be at the company Adbusters. I found them for the first time in 2017 after I picked up their #132 issue called “GOD, I’M LONELY” and  my life was forever changed. I was looking at the different aspects of my life while I was about to graduate and found so many things wrong with the world. Their magazine helped me put all the feelings I had into words. I would love to spend my days making things that really impact people and the world like they do.
CREATIVE BRIEF -  Feb 9th - Feb 14th
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I took the creative brief as a trial run for my final project. I knew I wanted to try making a zine which is a short magazine made of usually one piece of paper that is self-published and photo copied as a way to distribute it. I haven’t made a lot of before but they seem like the perfect solution to this project.
I looked through magazines and found some interesting element to create the initial compositions and this was very fun on the small scale. It felt free and very inspiring. I then added the typographic elements in a mixture of handwritten and printed which is a common theme in Adbusters. I used just a normal 8.5 x 11 piece of paper to make it but I know I need to make my final solution bigger to make an impact.
MOODBOARDS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have a lot of Adbusters inspired moodboards as they have been inspiring a lot of my work lately.
RESEARCH - Feb 14th - Feb 21st
“Since 1989, our international collective of artists, designers, writers, musicians, poets, punks, philosophers and wild hearts has been smashing ads, fighting corruption and speaking truth to power.”
I have never really looked into Adbusters history but they have done some cool things. They seem extremely motivated and are always looking for new ways to change the way people think. With capitalism being their enemy number one, I can really relate to everything they write or make.
EXPLORATION - Feb 21st - 28th
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After reading the story about Kalle Last jamming the shopping chart, I have not been able to stop thinking about using that for the zine. I sketched out something fun and quick, I wanted to keep it grungy and sketchy, using only sharpies . I have been playing around with different tape textures during my grad project and I have found that was duct tape is photocopied, It creates this really interesting texture so I wanted to use a lot of that. Exploring like this in such a raw way has been very therapeutic.
In the readings, It talks about the issue designs have with programs like InDesign is that they aren’t able to see how the spreads will look all together as the reader flips through them so they often print them out and lay them out horizontally. This idea was so helpful when I was trying to figure out the order and how the spreads will look all together. I also had to remember that the compositions of the individual pages aren't the only thing that matters but the compositions of the whole spread. Seeing them up on the wall made that a lot easier and I could see how the text would help the final composition.
FINALIZE - Feb 28th - March 6th
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I uploaded pictures of the scanned compositions into an illustrator file and I added all the information and rearranged how I wanted to. I used Interstate as the font because it is famous for its relation to interstate signage and its interesting style. It makes it easy to read when it is small which it will have to be because of the size of the zine. I also used a mixture of centre aligned and left aligned as that is the norm for Adbusters type. I used used both black and white coloured type as another form of hierarchy within the type. I really enjoy how this works out and I’m going to make an initial copy to show people to get feedback before I make the final version.
FINAL TOUCHES - March 7TH - 9TH
Meeting with Ian is always so helpful; We were talking about the style, the back being blank and how the inner pages stick out a bit. With the way the zine works it is kind of enviable that the inner pages stick out a bit but I’m just going to try and trim what I can, but I like the way it reads and I think the paper works well. Its shiny like the normal magazine paper but is the same dimensions as the original style of the magazine.
Ian brought up the blank back and if I was going to keep it blank then I'm going to have to glue it down so people don’t try to unfold it but then I thought about maybe using it as a poster space for some promotion about my own work. This whole project is about creating something to try and promote ourselves to these companies so why not throw in a little promotion about my grad project which is also heavily inspired by Adbusters.
FINALS
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think the end product is very interesting and a fun play on what Adbusters is known for. I like the spreads a lot and I think as a whole piece it’s very cohesive. It feels like one whole magazine. I also think using the back page as some kind of poster is really fun. I like the presents it has when it folds out. I'm nervous but I think I might actually send this to them. I think if I was to rework it, It might be the first page as I think the block of text doesn’t flow as nice I wanted it. I think it might be the way it wraps around the stop sign. I forgot that I wanted to add a barcode on the black of the magazine as a reference to real magazines. I also would like to maybe make a version that has a few more spreads. The nice thing about Adbusters is that they really know how to let the work breath inbetween articles so by being able to double the spread count, I think I would have been able to fix some of the breathing and pacing issues. Over all I really liked this whole project, I enjoy making book style works and this is definitely the work I want to be doing in the future. I actually think this the beginning of a new hobby and fun passion project.

first lines tag game
Rules: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all!). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favourite opening line. Then tag 10 of your favourite authors!
Thank you for tagging me @i-am-just-a-kiddo! I will tag @cortue@circumference-pie @katekatharos (no pressure as always) and anyone else who feels like it.
I don’t have 20 stories unless I count ones from before I started posting on ao3, but I could only find 2 of them on my current google drive and not knowing the titles makes it hard to search for the others. So there are only 8 first lines here, plus one from a WIP.
In chronological order:
There is a second sun reflected in the water. - title lost, Tolkien, Andreth character study of sorts
Sheremetyevo Airport is a bustling hub of activity as Yuuri picks up his bags. - title lost, YOI, one of many canon divergence Victuuri pieces I wrote for zines and forgot about
The Lans are cursed in love. - a love to break you, MDZS, Wangxian soulmate AU based on some art
Xiao Jinghuan was very happy. - Fire and Ice, NIF, Prince Yu/MCS identity reveal AU
Edelgard was dead. - escape, into our night, FE3H, Dorothea/Edelgard in church route
Caiyun restaurant was hardly bustling when Shen Zhui entered. - Of Wisdom and Integrity, NIF, Shen Zhui-centric fix-it
Jing Beiyuan stepped into the courtyard. - if there is no moon upon the hill, Qi Ye, kill your sect brother AU
When the dust of the Archon War settled, Morax laid down his mask of stone-faced slaughter and took on the mantle of Rex Lapis, leading Liyue into an era of peace and prosperity. - speak not of odes to the wind, Genshin Impact, Xiao/Zhongli Xiao whump with a happy ending
If this is the afterlife, the least they could do is heal my burns, Sigurd thinks. - untitled WIP, FE4, Sigurd survives AU (a very provisional opening line, I haven’t even decided for sure if I want to write this in his POV yet)
Most of them are short, in contrast to my usual sentences which tend to drag on for a while. They also tend to establish the fic’s setting/premise/characters in some way. The only exceptions are the Tolkien and Genshin ones, but those two have reason to be different (written in second-person stream of consciousness and in the style of in-universe documents respectively). My NIF exchange fic for this year starts with dialogue though, which will be new for me, though I can’t post it yet.
