Welcome to the Inaugural Hermitcraft Guess The Author Event! This post should get you up to speed on the rules and how this is going to work. We will NOT be creating a discord for this event, sorry.
Guess the Author is exactly as it sounds: you, the author, write a new Hermitcraft fic (Or dust off an old unposted WIP, we won’t judge) and add it to our collection! The collection is both unrevealed and anonymous. You will have until THE DEADLINE to add your fic to the collection!
THE DEADLINE is July 9th, 2023 at midnight EDT.
On THE DEADLINE, we will close submissions and reveal the collection- but not the authors! We will make a list of every author in the collection, and post it in the collection description, so the readers aren’t just throwing darts in the dark.
From there, the Readers will have ONE WEEK to try and guess who wrote what! Your prize is nothing but new fic and fun!
ONE WEEK will last from July 9th to July 16th, 2023, terminating at midnight EDT.
After ONE WEEK has elapsed, we will reveal who wrote what. Great Success!
Do you want to join? There’s a few additional notes under the cut!
The deadline will not be moved for any reason, at all. If you make the deadline, awesome! Add your work to the collection.
If you don't make the deadline, that's okay! You still wrote a fic, and you should totally post it. The deadline will not be moveable to avoid throwing everything out of whack. This is about getting everyone writing, not some silly deadline!
That said, THERE WILL BE ABSOLUTELY NO EXTENSIONS TO THE DEADLINE.
The collection itself IS NOW LIVE! I had an unexpected injection of free time, so you guys get the collection early! You can add your fics to it right now!
Here's some instructions to help you with that!
And remember: You can add your fic to the collection at any point between now and THE DEADLINE!
Writers are strongly encouraged to write hermits they don't usually write for, to write less-popular hermits, to obfuscate their tracks, or to just play around in sandboxes they wouldn't normally touch. Go outside your comfort zone! Usually a horror writer? Maybe try a coffee shop AU! Or, alternatively, stick exactly to your comfort zone and try and get everyone with the ol' reverse psychology. Works every time.
The point of this is secrecy, though! It’s a game! Let’s have some fun!
Lie while liveblogging the writing process. Compose an ode to Vintagebeef on tumblr and then drop the hottest Wels fic of 2023. The possibilities are (almost) endless!
Once you've submitted a work, you'll send us an ask with your AO3 username, and we'll add you to the list. Once the collection goes live on the deadline, the list will be part of the collection description!
There will be no giftees. There will be no pinch hitters. There will be no signups. If you wanna show up, drop a fic in the collection! If you don't, that's cool too. Write whatever you want! Drop in, or don’t! It’s all for fun!
Now, that said, we do have a few rules:
-Your work MUST be Hermit-centric. This is a Hermitcraft challenge, we’re Hermitcraft fans. Nothing personal. Feel free to have cameos and background characters from any other series you like!
-No smut. Sorry guys. Imply it, cut to black around it, whatever you wanna do. Just no full-on smut.
-No causing us to break TOS. Or like, the law.
-Wordcount should be more than 50.
-The mods reserve the right to remove fics from the collection if you break these rules. (It almost certainly won’t come to that, though!)
And that’s it! That’s all the rules. Throw whatever you want in the collection- but remember, it’s a game and your job is to make it hard on the readers. Or make it easy! It’s entirely up to you.
As a reminder: the deadline for submissions will be July 9th, 2023, at midnight Eastern Daylight Time.
WE WILL NOT ALLOW ANY EXTENSIONS.

a/n: Hello, my fabulous Readers! It's been a hot second since I last wrote a fic. And I can honestly say, that I've been distracted by the whole Chris Drama and Fiasco. But that doesn't mean that I haven't been writing fics. I actually have a few lined up, that are definite WIPs, so stay tuned. In the meantime, I hope y'all will enjoy this fic.
Which I'm happy to dedicate to @cutedisneygrl, Happiest Birthday to you, girl! Thank you for always lending an ear, and also happily sharing your fics with us. You're awesome, and I hope you enjoy this fic. Sorry if it's a little late.

The clock continued to tic the hours away, as you laid on your bed. Trying to will it to move faster, and end the long day. Time always seemed slow during the tough days. Even longer lately, what with Steve being out on seemingly endless weeks of missions.
You really couldn’t complain, considering that that is his job. And it was all for the good of the future. Your future, together. Steve has been open about building a safe and happy future. And being able to secure it, one bad guy at a time.
You chuckle at the thought. Remembering the night Steve said those very words to you...
You had called an hour before, needing to vent. Your work day was one of the worst you’ve had in a while, and Steve, hearing the frustration, and weariness in your voice, took it upon himself to try and make it better. He arranged the pillows to frame your bed, pulled the curtains closed, put the lamp on its dimmest setting, grabbed the comfiest blankets, and made a little love nest for you two love birds.
He nervously looked over every little detail. Fluffing up the pillows, smoothing down the bed sheets, pulling at the curtains, double and triple checking everything. Luckily, you announcing your arrival, broke his intense focus.
Steve rushed off. Tripping and stumbling on his own feet, regaining balance, and taking another look around, before stumbling once more, and finally hopping down to you. Not that you were having any of it. Immediately assuming that Steve had prepared something romantically sexy. Which, in Steve’s opinion, was sweet but nothing romantically sexy about his plans.
But at Steve’s insistence, and puppy dog eyes, you were, albeit begrudgingly on your part, lead upstairs to your converted room.
“You sounded so sad on the phone earlier, I wanted to do something special. Try and make your day a little bit better.”
You smiled as tears slowly filled your eyes. Jumping into Steve’s arms, as he picks you up, and puts you on the bed, to rid you of your work clothes. Slipping you into your favorite button-up of his.
You’d stay in the love nest for hours. Snuggled into the love of your life, except for the few times, he’d get up to get food and water. Insisting that he should get them, not wanting you to get up and leave your little bubble.
Few minutes into your meal of a shared bowl of chocolate covered fruits, Steve’s phone rang. Causing him to step out, to answer it. Not coming back until a few minutes later. His expression crestfallen, but trying his best to keep up a mask of happiness so as to not drag your already down mood. Ofcouse,you knew him well.
“They’re calling you away on another mission?” You asked, after a few minutes of silence.
“Yes. But it’s a necessary evil, if I want to build our future.” Steve sighed, giving you a weary smile.
“And I do want to build it, one bad guy at a time.” He continued, taking both of your hands in his.
“Are you proposing to me right now, Rogers?” You laughed.
“Believe me, Doll. When I propose, you’ll know...” Steve smiled.
“Well, until then, I’ll take a few of your shirts. But even after you ask, you might never get them back.” You declared teasingly, grabbing a strawberry and running off, as Steve gave chase.
You sigh and get up out of bed, deciding to go down to your living room to watch a rom-com with your over-sized stuffed bear. But not before grabbing your favorite button-up shirt, that Steve left at the foot of your bed just before he drove off to the compound for his mission, a few days ago. You pressed it to your nose, inhaling the comforting scent of aftershave and wood, something that was uniquely Steve. And changed into it, buttoning up most of it, and leaving some undone.
You made your way down the stairs and into your kitchen, grabbing some leftovers stored in tupperwares, in your fridge, and preparing to heat them in your microwave. You stepped into your living room, turning on the TV. and arranging the throw pillows, blanket, and your bear, so that your couch has prime comfiness, all before the microwave dinged to signal that your dinner is warm.
You quickly grabbed it, utensils, and Y/F/C/D from the kitchen, carefully carrying them in your arms, and using your elbow to turn off the light in your kitchen. Leaving your living room lamp, and your TV as your only remaining light source. Creating some sort of ambiance that allowed for optimal comfort once you wrapped your shoulders in your blanket, placed your bear on your lap, and pressed play on your movie, before grabbing your food and settling in for the night.
A few hours later, the roar of a Harley can be heard in the distance. A bit toned down, due to Steve knowing that most, if not all of the residents of his neighborhood were soundly and safely tucked in their beds.
The mission was shorter than expected, and for that he silently thanked God. Because he was able to come home to the woman he loved sooner than anticipated, and will be able to surprise her with the best gift he could ever give her. Him.
He shut off the engine, as soon as he arrived and parked on the driveway. Removing his helmet, grabbing his things that he had strapped to the back of his motorcycle, and grabbing his keys to unlock the front door.
The first thing he noticed was the TV was on (hard not to when he noticed the dim glow coming from the living room). The one thing he didn’t expect as he was reaching for the remote was the sight of you holding your bear, the very over-sized bear that he had won for you at the Fair last month, close to you, one of your cozy blankets draped over your shoulders, and the collar of his button-up peaking from under the blanket.
He chuckled at the adorable sight, but sighed softly. Knowing you well enough, that you had a rough day, just by needing any semblance of him near, and needing every aspect of your cozy cocoon in order to feel better. He knew what was needed, and it was something he definitely needed for himself too.
And so, he put his bag and shield down to the side of the recliner to the right of the TV, out of the way, so that none of you would trip on it the next morning. Removed his leather jacket, and placed it on the arm of the couch by your feet, before kneeling down by you, to get on the proper position to be able to pick you up, and carry you bridal style. Hopefully without fully rousing you from your sleep.
You were half awake as Steve slowly made his way up the stairs, to your shared room. The blanket still wrapped around your body, essentially wrapping you up in a burrito. You felt the need to find more warmth and comfort from the solid wall of muscle that you were resting against. And so snuggled needily into it, much to Steve’s amusement.
And that is why he decided to remove his shoes, before going into bed with you a minute later. Not wanting you to spend even a minute without your human teddy bear. He could change and take a shower in the morning, he just knew you both needed the other near.
“I’ve got you, Doll... And I’m not going anywhere...”

Weekend Update 03/10/2024
Made it another week Nerdie.
That I did. I believe today is Sunday. Too much time in this chair. I think I slept in it before. Too many times.
Nerdie, don't you have a bed?
I do, I don't always make it there. I've usually zoned out and nodded off, the wake up when my neck hurts. 👀 I'm not always writing either, just thinking sometimes.
Couldn't you think in bed Nerdie?
I could, but I don't. That sounds like a good idea. My ideas aren't always great. But I did have a few this week.
My March Spring Prompts continue. I was able to do ten of them without repeating a character! 🤗 This upcoming week we'll see some Pedro peeps come back. Key words: gas station sushi, angst, oil and bath. Remember this is Nerdie 😎, it could be any and everything, but my prompts are mature and not explicit. I do write about some heavy subjects, fluff, a few giggles, and have some innuendos, but my main masterlist is 78% smut so just go there.
The WIP I’d been mentioning for the last few weeks or months (could be either) is finished and posted : Diddle your Dieter to Disco. My first Dieter smut actually which is hilarious at least to me. 🤣 The rest of his Masterlist is fairly fluffy. I would check the warnings on it, I put a lot in it. 👀
Part Two of my series The Lake Between Us is up. Make sure to read the warnings. Ezra introduction has a lot going on. It's an AU so he has both arms but that doesn't mean I didn't torture him other ways. 👀 I do love that ya'll love the taglist name "Taste-testers of Ezra's gumbo." 😆
I finally wrote the follow up to He told me his name called She made me feel. I think I enjoy mentally torturing Pedro characters at this point. Poor Din is so anxious and touch-starved. As always with Din = HANDS. A Nerdie staple. This is The Way.

WIP Wednesday because it's technically still Wednesday where I live.
I've been inspired by @saiyanmazen and @galexibrain to share a little bit from my current project. They both have very excellent snippets from post-Cell works they are working on (that you can read here and here respctively) that are sure to be chock full of angst and some wonderful moments for all the Vegebul fans out there.
I am working on something a little different. It's a slightly more lighthearted AU. Here's a snippet from my current project:
Her friend glared at her from the corner of her eyes. “I’m going to dump bleach in your laundry when you’re not looking.”
“Sure, sure. Ruin all my awesome clothes and then you won’t be able to borrow them anymore.” Bulma let her arm go as they got to the car and climbed into the driver’s seat. Chi-Chi walked around and slid into the passenger’s seat next to her.
“And what about you? I noticed that you haven’t bragged about getting Coffee Shop Guy’s number despite the fact that you’ve been bringing him up for weeks at this point.”
Bulma shrugged and waved a hand dismissively as she started the car and pulled out of their parking space. “Don’t read too much into it. Coffee Shop Guy is a passing fancy. We’ve never even talked.”
Chi-Chi raised an eyebrow at her. “Oh? I distinctly remember when you told me that he accidentally grabbed your coffee that one time and you said, ‘Oh I’m sorry, that’s actually mine.’” When Chi-Chi imitated Bulma, her voice was breathy in a way that made it sound like Bulma’s cup size was about three sizes bigger and she also didn’t know how to operate a stapler. Bulma took one hand off the steering wheel long enough to casually flip Chi-Chi off, and the car filled with her friend’s laughter.
“I’m officially never talking to you about my love life again.”
Chi-Chi grinned an evil little grin. “Oh, so it’s a love life now, eh? Does he even know your name? Or does he longingly tell his friends about Coffee Shop Girl and how she would probably be perfect for him if he only got up the courage to talk to her?”
It's lighter, it's a bit funny, it's romantic, and it's probably going to get spicy, because I can't help myself. Sometimes you just want to write cute AU stories.

WIP Wednesday
Just got tagged by @nerdieforpedro, so thank you for that, babe! Your WIP sounds so awesome and fluffy! 💕
I couldn't decide if I wanted to show a snippet of Favorite Bounty chapter 5, or To the Flame chapter 3, so here's a tiny bit of both!
FB:
You try to focus on your heavy breathing instead of the Mandalorian quickly gaining on you. The ship you’re headed toward is already starting to descend, and you just about triple your efforts.
You hear your name again, and it makes you wince. A dull throb starts in your chest. Being this close in proximity with Mando again, but now as enemies, hurts in a way you didn’t think was possible.
You’ve been betrayed before, but not in such an intimate way. The fact that he pretended to have genuine interest in you—to engage in sexual acts with you—when he knew the entire time that he would be turning you in for a reward, digs deep into your chest like a rusted knife.
Tears are obstructing your vision before you can deny them, but you push through until you’re only a few feet away from your ship. The gangplank is only open about halfway, but it should be enough for you to squeeze through by the time you reach it.
TTF:
He pulls you with him as he leans against the cab, settling you comfortably in his lap so that you’re both facing the sunset. It’s breathtaking; the pinks, oranges, and purples all blending together and mixing with the soft white clouds. You lean back into his chest as you let out a content sigh.
You feel a sense of safety and belonging within Javi’s arms, one that you haven’t felt for much too long. You feel him press a kiss into your hair, and your eyes flutter shut to hone in on the gentle sensation.
“Gotta ask you something, baby,” Javi breaks the silence with a low tone. Your eyes snap back open.
“Anything, Javi,” you say, craning your neck the tiniest bit to look his way. Your heart beats heavy in your chest, you have an idea of what he’s about to ask you. He moves one of his hands to one of yours, and you grasp it, bringing it up to your lips to place a gentle kiss on his palm.
“How would you feel about being mine? Only mine?” he asks, his breath disturbing your hair as he speaks in just over a whisper.

Wip Preview: Let’s All Go to the Movies!
So I’m writing again. It’s great the only problem is that it turns out this fun little Duckverse June prompt might be another one of those stories that comes out longer than I anticipated because of all the fun little ideas I have for it. The solution? Show a preview cause it’s Wednesday. Thanks to @tokuvivor for helping me decide what to show. He wanted to see the context of who Gosalyn called a hipster. So I’ll show that. Hopefully this’ll get done by the end of June or early July at the latest:
“NO! Stop that right now!”
Fenton and Gandra’s kiss ended the very second they realized the three kids they were watching were watching them.
“Aw don’t be mean, Gosalyn.” Webby chimed in, “I thought it was cute.”
“Well I don’t want to see or hear any more of that when we get inside the theater,” Gosalyn demanded, “I came here to watch the Titanic Trio kick butt and save the dimensional multiverses, not listen to you two make-out the entire time.”
“Oh don’t you worry, Gos.” Gandra smirked. “Fenton and I will keep our hands to ourselves so you can hear Comet Man give all his speeches about doing what’s right as well as punch the bad guys.”
“Comet GUY!” Dewey corrected.
“Right, my mistake.”
“He’s my favorite!”
“I never would have guessed…” Gandra stated as she looked down at the Comet Guy shirt Dewey was currently rocking over his usual long sleeved blue shirt.
“He’s the coolest! He travels the galaxy in a spaceship that is also his hat! And he’s like the greatest dancer ever!” Dewey explained.
“Yeah Comet Guy is cool and all, but he’s nothing compared to the Scarlet Brigand!” Gosalyn commented as she unzipped her jacket to show off her Scarlet Brigand hoodie. “Nothing more badass than a bad bitch bandit who knows how to use a sword!”
“Um, Gosalyn?” Fenton spoke up, “I don’t think Drake would approve of that lan-”
“I’ve always been a big fan of the Masked Mallard!” Webby responded to Gosalyn as she put on her Masked Mallard mask and started punching the air. “No powers or weapons. Just pure intelligence and strength!”
“Wow, sounds like the characters are just different enough for each of you to project yourselves onto.” Gandra observed.
“Yeah!” Dewey replied. “Do you two have a favorite character?!”
“They don’t have to be a member of the Titanic Trio!” Webby added” It could be anyone from the ACU! That’s Awesome Cinematic Universe. Based upon the Awesome Comics of course.”
“Don’t tell me,” Gosalyn smirked up at Gandra, “your favorite character is probably one of those lame F.I.E.L.D. Agents.”
A small scoff left Gandra’s mouth as she rolled her eyes back at the teen duck. “Look, I’m sorry kids, but I’ve only seen like three of these movies from the past decade and don’t really remember the characters.”
“Wait, what!?” Both Dewey and Webby gasped in unison.
“You’re telling me that you’re walking into the third Titanic Trio movie without watching the previous two Titanic Trio movies or the previous Super Snooper movie?!” Webby asked as she looked up Gandra. “You’ve at least watched any of the Masked Mallard or Comet Guy movies?!”
“I think I might have watched one of the Masked Mallards-, wait Super Snooper? I thought this group was a trio not a quartet.”
“Oh they are, Super Snooper is not a member!” Dewey happily clarified for Gandra, “Super Snooper: The Rise of the Resurrection introduced the Brainteasers who are going to be the main enemy of this movie!”
“Ooh, I loved that one!” Fenton chimed in. “I’d say Super Snooper is my favorite character from the ACU as well as the Awesome Comics.”
“Well you’re in luck, Fenton!” Webby assured the older duck, “I heard from the Sabrewings that he may or may not play a small role in this movie!”
“Really!? Yes!” Fenton celebrated while Gandra shook her head in amusement at her boyfriend as the group continued their journey towards the theater.
Dewey and Webby continued walking beside Gandra.
“Since you’re out of the loop, we can tell you everything you need to know before the movie begins!” Webby suggested to Gandra.
“Yeah! I’m a real genius when it comes the ACU!” Dewey bragged.
“Can’t say that I’m surprised to hear that.” Gandra stated.
“Go ahead! Ask me anything!”
“Okay, did the superheroes win in Super Snooper: The Rise of the Resurrection?”
“Yeah! It went down li-”
“Thanks, I’m all caught up Dewey.”
“So what, you’re too cool to enjoy the ACU?” Gosalyn inquired as she placed her hands in her pockets.
“Just never really liked superhero movies…” Gandra responded.
“Are you joking, Gandra? You don’t like superhero movies?!” Dewey gasped in shock. “But you’re a nerd!”
“She’s the worst kind of nerd, Dewey” Gosalyn observed, “a hipster.”
Gandra scoffed. “Yeah, sorry to disappoint you kids.”
“Well regardless, I’ll be sitting right next to you Gandra in case you have any more questions!” Dewey assured the hen.
“Oh, super…”
“And if you don’t wanna talk during the movie I actually wrote down notes and wrote down all key details that anyone will need to know before seeing Titanic Trio: Interdimensional Fractured Multiverses!” Webby went ahead and handed Gandra her sparkling notebook.
“Uh thanks Webby but I-…wow, this is all actually really well organized and well-written.” Gandra observed as she shook the glitter off her hands. “Suit, have you ever seen anyone be this efficient with their notes.”
Fenton looked at the notebook. “Oh wow! All color-coded, nice graphs, key details as well as extensive ones. Webby this is impressive!”
“Aw, thanks!” Webby smiled bashfully at the two adults.
“Sheesh, can you believe we’re the only non-nerds in this group?” Gosalyn whispered to Dewey as she held her fist out for a fist bump.
“Nerp!” Dewey bumped his fist against Gosalyn’s.
You know a mutual once asked me “Why do you think Dewey and Gandra should’ve been a team? Wouldn’t he annoy Gandra.” Yes. That is precisely why I think they should be a team

Hi Zak!! This is a pretty random ask but i was just wondering if you have any tips for starting a fanfic/story? I just keep getting stuck on how to start one (I really love your work/blog 🙏 feeds my tot brain rot fr!!)
hi anon, im glad you like the stuff i make ;w; !!! and ohhh, sure i got tons of tips for that!.....so many that i actually wish i cld get u back here to ask what specifically about starting a story u'd want tips on but for now, i'll go for a general overview :D!!
cuz....to me (i.e. based on my writing process, which i'll be drawing heavily from for these tips), the act of Starting comes in three distinct steps, one after the other:
Idea Generation (what is the story gonna be about and how do i get ideas for that?)
Concept Organization/Outlining (how is the story going to be about this idea and how will i be executing it?)
Creation (GAH, HOW PUT WORDS ON PAGE!?!?!?)
so i'll give general tips for all three!!!

Idea Generation Tips
(this is the step that i personally have the least trouble with because my brain makes 5 new ideas every day. it's kinda a curse now because it leads to me having too many wips and concepts and only 1% of them gets to the Creation period jhvjhVJKSHFVHJS BUT ANYHOO, TIPS-)
Check Out Prompt Lists (super fun and easy way to get an idea! theres tons of story and fic prompts out there that you can search up here on tumblr, some of them being lists of lines of dialog or lists of AUs or scenarios. even if you dont follow a prompt exactly, they can be great at kickstarting ur brain into thinking of something related that you Do wanna pursue)
Open/Ask For Prompt Requests (if ur brain doesnt have any ideas, u can ask around and see if anyone ELSE has ideas theyre alright with you writing! my tot fics "reviews for Time's Antiquities, South Stellis | Average Rating: 4.8 Stars" and "but little do we know, the stars welcome him with open arms" were both inspired by anon asks i got!! to those anons who sent those asks, i owe u my life....but yea, maybe other people can give ideas to you! or, again, give Something that can inspire another thing in ur brain to take shape)
Just Ramble With A Friend (SO MANY OF MY FIC IDEAS started because i was just goofing off and playing idea volleyball with fandom buddies in our DMs (shoutout to sam samsspambox, z lukevonhagen, and beck beckthebeetle for being the main culprits of this). like, what started out as a joke conversation eventually makes go "oh no wait i actually wanna see that as a fic" and then boom, Idea Has Been Acquired. but fr, talking with another person makes your brain create things u never thought about before. it's both tons of fun to chat with a buddy as a sounding board, and it yields awesome concepts for stories!)
For Fanfic Specifically, Think About What You Want To See In Canon But Hasn't Happened And You Want It So Bad It's Driving You NUTS (this can be anything from missing scenes you wish were expanded on, scenes you wish went a different way, character relationships you wish you could see more of in canon, go nuts! the fun thing with fanfic is that it's a fertile playground for all the what-ifs, and a lot of my fics' ideas were simply found because i thought "man i know tears of themis is never gonna show me deep found fam moments/artem ptsd consequences after main story 6.2/mariluke, so imma make it myself" JHVSJDHF. ideas are hard to make sometimes, but brains are so good at desiring things. and all those desires? those can also be Ideas for a fic!)

Concept Organization/Outlining
(very much skippable if your writing style/personality is more receptive to free-wheeling!! im just the type of writer who always needs an outline to begin something. it helps me structure a raw idea with no shape into something clearer that i can envision a story for)
Outline A Rough Chain Of Events Chronologically (this can be as simple as three bullet points, what happens at the Start of the story, the Middle, and the End. or maybe you can go list down the portions of your fic according to the Freytag's Pyramid Plot Structure: Exposition, Inciting Incident, Rising Action, etc etc.)
Outline A Rough List Of Stuff You Just Want To Happen In The Fic (if your brain is like mine and isnt too great at chronological thinking, make a list of just all the plot points and events or even dialog exchanges u Want to see in the fic. you can organize it in the order u want later once uve put everything down)
Outline The Themes (moving away from plot, many stories are more focused on feelings or characterization or themes. so make a list of the Concepts you want to tackle. this is something i do for my fics that are more introspective, so i outline shit like "EVENT THAT MAKES LUKE INTERNALIZE SELF-LOATHING followed by EVENT THAT MAKES LUKE'S VIEW BE NOTICED BY ANOTHER CHARACTER")

Creation
(the worst part of writing....is the writing JAVFJVSDKHFDJHJ but nah fr this is the part i have the hardest time with, so here are tips that help me kickstart the word engine)
You Dont Have To Start Writing The Fic From The Beginning Of Its Story, Start Writing Wherever (confession: a good 75% of my fics are ones where the first scene i actually wrote down was not the start. instead, i just wrote the scene i was most excited to write. and usually thats somewhere in the middle! i do this cuz it makes my brain happy, and a happy brain is much easier to pull words from than a sad brain. plus, when i see the scene I Like Best already written, it gives me motivation to do the rest of the fic because oh my god i want everybody to sEE THIS ONE DANG SCENE!!! start writing the fic at whatever point you want, in whatever order comes most naturally to you, is my point. you can fill the rest in later, but hey, starting to write where you Want has gotten you Started. now you just gotta finish, and finishing when you already have something down is much easier than starting from 0)
Set Tiny Wordcount Goals. And When I Say Tiny, I MEAN TINY!!! (writing is intimidating but if you set a goal of say, 100 words written for a wip per day, at the end of one week, you'll have 700 words. at the end of two, you'll have 1400 words. at the end of a month, 3000. small goals help since it makes you do Something, and that Something will inevitably compound, no matter what goal uve set. and let urself be proud of the goals uve achieved!!! writer brain gets happy when you tell it it's done a good job at reaching a wordcount goal, and like i said earlier, happy brain is much easier to work with than sad brain)
Give Yourself All The Time You Need (i know this sounds counterproductive but sometimes....the best thing you can do for the part of your brain that wants to start creating....is waiting til it's ready. dont pressure yourself, cuz brain will get sad. dont be too hard on yourself, cuz brain will get sad. start when you want to start in the way that works best with your brain and see where things go, but be patient with yourself. sometims Starting is actually the longest part of writing a story and thats fine. it will happen. trust)

without any further ado, i am proud to present: every AFTG ship, ranked.
this is your friendly reminder that these are just my opinions. if you like a ship i don’t: great! if you don’t like a ship that i love: also great! i’m always happy to hear people’s thoughts, and i love a good friendly debate, but please remember that i’m 17. i’m not here to argue with you about why your ship is the best. i’m just here to have fun.
these probably aren’t all the ships that are out there, but this is everything i’ve seen so far. if i missed one, let me know!
24. Jean/Riko
this one… ew. ew ew ew. every ship with riko is so ew, i cannot begin to explain, but this one is the worst.
i’ve read too many Nest fics to not gag at this tag, cause it’s never consensual.
23. Kevin/Riko

22. Kevin/Thea
y’all know i hate this ship by now, but for newcomers: it’s predatory and neglectful. very very ick.
21. Andrew/Roland
this one… where to start?
i’ll probably make a full post ab it soon, so for now, let’s just say that it’s very similar to Kevin/Thea. The age gap at the time that things started between them… the morals and legality are murky at best.
20. Andrew/Kevin
i’ve said it once, and i’ll say it again: they. aren’t. good. for. each. other.
Kevin doesn’t respect boundaries. he pushes things. and boundaries are the absolute most important thing for Andrew. they just don’t work.
19. Andrew/Neil/Kevin
i very vehemently despise this ship, for the same reason i hate Andrew/Kevin. i think it’s so important for y’all to remember who these characters are and not just ship them because they all have dicks and are nice to each other sometimes. that turns into mlm fetishization real fuckin quick.
18. Neil/Kevin
this is one that i can almost sort of see. if i hadn’t accidentally spoiled andreil for myself, i would have assumed this was canon during my first read.
but it’s just… i love the fact that they’re friends. i think their friendship can be so amazing, and i love reading fics where they’re that close. i don’t think every friendship in media has to turn romantic.
17. Kevin/Jean/Jeremy
remember what i said about kevandreil? apply it to this one too.
ik it sounds like i just hate poly couples. i don’t. i just hate ships like this, that really wouldn’t be healthy but people put together anyway because oh gay people yay! it feels gross and fetish-y and i am not here for it.
16. Kevin/Jean
this is a ship that i can see happening pre-canon, but i’m not the biggest fan of it simply because there’s no way it could be healthy. they went through a lot together, sure, but traumabonds are notoriously unhealthy.
15. Kevin/Matt
this, again, feels like just putting two characters together because they’re nice to each other occasionally, but really? they aren’t. correct me if i’m wrong, but Matt and Kev only have one canon interaction that i can remember, and it’s literally Matt punching Kev in the face.
Not to mention, Dan and Matt. Dan and Matt! i love them too much to accept this.
14. Kevin/Matt/Aaron
listen. again, i don’t hate poly couples. i really, really don’t. i just…
Matt literally… just doesn’t mesh well with Kev or Aaron. at all? i don’t understand the thought process behind this.
13. Renee/Jean
i don’t… i don’t hate this one. i just don’t like it. i feel like both Renee and Jean have wayyy better ships (not to spoil anything, but they both make top 5 in different ships)
i don’t think they’re awful, per se, i just don’t really see the chemistry.
12. Allison/Seth
this is an unpopular opinion, i know. but i’ve read a few “Seth lives” fics that redeem him, so i can’t hate him. i can’t, you can’t make me.
believe me, i don’t like it either, but i don’t run this city, the rats do.
anyway, it’s not awesome and i like Ally’s other options better, but it could be good! it could be great! i read too much redemption fanfic!
11. Kevin/Jeremy
i’ll be honest, it’s not my favorite to read when Jean is also in a fic, but if we’re talking in general?
i adore. fics where Kev is falling all over himself trying to talk to Jer are my bread. and. fucking. butter. quicksand has destroyed me. absolutely ruined me.
10. Aaron/Katelyn
starting off the top ten with one of my favorite minor characters ever, this ship is up here because i love Kate so much.
i read too much fanfiction, i know, but i just think she’s so cool?
honestly, i really don’t think Aaron deserves her. she’s that cool. i love her so much. that’s my lady. my babygirl. simply adore.
9. Abby/Wymack/Betsy
i like this one, i really do. all the Fox parents together? it’s perfect. i love it. enough said.
8. Kevin/Allison
listen. i’ve said i didn’t get it before, but honestly? i change my mind. i like this one. i like it a lot.
their personalities would mesh so well. they’re both dramatic, they’d be the funniest fucking couple in the world. i like it a lot.
7. Abby/Wymack
it’s a classic. i ship it, you ship it, the Foxes ship it too. we all ship it. they’re made for each other, and that’s all i have to say.
6. Matt/Dan
if you don’t like this one, you’re lying. they are. the definition. of love.
they’re so cute? so cute? i have no words?
your honor, i love them.

5. Nicky/Erik
god, these two.
if you know me at all, you know i have a soft spot for Nicky. i relate to his story so much, and i hate how dirty Nora did him.
but god, these two. they are love. they are perfect.

4. Kevin/Aaron
i love this one. you know i love this one. everyone knows i love this one.
they’re both assholes, and they’re both hurt in different ways, and i love when they heal together. when they help each other and lean on each other and just- ugh.
i like watching them heal, and i like watching them do it together. (plus best friend’s brother anyone?? a classic trope)
3. Renee/Allison
i love them so much. i love them so much.
they balance each other out so well? they’re so perfect for each other?
also, we need more wlw couples in media in general, and especially in this series.
i love them so much.
2. Jean/Jeremy
you know. you know i love this one (thank you Hoax, and thank you gus_47. you have ruined my sleep schedule and i have never been happier)
grumpyxsunshine, guys. healing together. i love when people heal together. i love it
also, round of applause to us in the fandom for creating an incredibly popular ship between two people who literally never interact in canon. we did that. i love that for us.

ao3 year in review is an awesome idea. 12, 22, 25?
oh thank you!! i cannot take full credit for it -- i am absolutely sure i've seen it around before -- but i'm glad you enjoy it!
12: What’s your most popular fic for the year? Is it your best one?
it is by far symbiosis, a character study based on the dnd movie. i think it is definitely one of my most successful studies this year, and there's a lot about it that i love. but it's not like. particularly innovative? so by one measure, it is the best! and by other metrics, perhaps not so much. i do love it though.
25: Free space: Recommend a fic!
i don't even watch the show, haven't since the first campaign, but i do think folks should read this critrole fic because it's perfect to me: when you're in trouble, go into your dance
22: Share a deleted scene, if you have one.
ooh lemme dig... i don't think i have a deleted scene from a current work, but i can give you one for an abandoned WIP:
Boston digs its nails into Layna, deeper and stronger than the teeth of the Hellmouth. It’s the first time, really, that she’s felt anything stronger than the tug of her home; if she’s honest about it, she’d never thought that kind of thing was possible.
She should know better. There’s always something stronger, something bigger, something that can carve your insides out and leave you feeling hollow.
Well. Maybe that’s a little too on the nose. Layna shakes her head at her own dramatics and focuses instead on the coffee in her hands, the person seated across the table from her in this very loud, very Boston cafe.
“It’s not so bad,” Moses Mason, formerly Simmons, formerly excellent actor, says. They smile in the sort of lopsided way Layna knows would make most people swoon. “The team is pretty insular, but if you’re patient…”
They wave a hand, as if that’s an adequate end to a sentence. Layna’s lips twist to one side of their own accord.
“Then they’ll get over the fact that I was never supposed to be here,” Layna finishes, “and that I am a constant reminder of a significant hit to both performance and morale?”
Moses’ smile doesn’t waver. “Sure, something like that.”
Layna sips her coffee. It’s too bitter, but she doesn’t have it in her to order another one. “You’re a terrible welcoming committee.”
“I’m the only welcoming committee,” Moses corrects.
“And?”
“And that means it doesn’t matter how good I am.”
They say it with a wink, like they’re letting Layna into some kind of secret. Maybe they are; Layna doesn’t have the lay of the land, here, not yet. Some other time, when she isn’t grieving, when she isn’t lost, when she isn’t absolutely furious at her circumstances, maybe she’ll be in on the joke. Maybe.
“My condolences to your captain,” Layna mutters into her drink.
Moses shrugs. “My condolences to you.”
There’s something there. Layna can see the spark of sincerity in the sentiment, like if Moses were just one or two degrees less relaxed there would be a genuine apology. She appreciates that they don’t go that far; she’s never been comfortable with pity.
And, as such, she is perfectly comfortable changing the subject, however clunky the transition may be. “Who should I be keeping an eye on around here, then? Any trouble?”
Moses shoots her a sharp grin, pretty and pointed. “Me, probably.”
“Oh, please.” Layna hides her own smile behind the rim of her mug. “I can handle you.”
“You sound pretty confident there, Hollywood.”
“I didn’t spend six years in the Hellmouth to fall victim to some big brown eyes and pretty flowers.”
“Aw,” Moses intones, dipping their chin down. “You think I’m pretty?”
Moses is a flirt. Layna knows it, and Moses knows it. The words are nothing; leaves floating on top of the current of a particularly quick stream. Easy to get distracted by, if she tries, but the thing is… The thing is, Layna’s been here a week, and she’s already seen who Moses tends to stare at during practice. It isn’t her.
So Layna meets the dipped chin, the artful pout, with a raised eyebrow. “Will a certain shortstop mind if I say yes?”
If it catches Moses off guard, they don’t show it. Instead, they shrug. They might be trying to force nonchalance, but then, they’ve got the training to pull it off. Layna narrows her eyes and looks for some kind of tell, a giveaway.
“I doubt it,” they say. They add a little flourish, even, flicking the hair and honeysuckle out of their – honestly, frustratingly pretty – big brown eyes.
“Hm.” Layna frowns. “Pity. Do you want him to?”
“You’re asking some very personal questions, for a stranger I just met,” Moses muses.
They don’t sound angry; if Layna had to put a word to it, she’d call them curious. Good. She can work with that.
“Then don’t call me a stranger,” Layna huffs, leaning in until her hair slips past her shoulder and falls, just slightly, over her face. “Call me your co-conspirator. You can even call me your date, as long as you’re buying.”
Pointedly, Moses pulls their wallet out of their pocket and flags the waiter.
Layna wasn’t lying, either. She can handle a Moses Mason, and she can certainly handle a Jacob Haynes. If she plays her cards right, they’ll be sorted out by the end of next season. Maybe sooner. Sure, she shouldn’t be here; she’s an anomaly, a mistake, a reminder of plots gone wrong and the dead weight around every team’s neck.
But she’s pretty damn good at writing a love story. Here, at least, that should be worth something.

I am a sucker for Hanahaki fics (the angst! The pain! The perceived unrequited love! The ticking clock!) and this one does not disappoint. Set within those awful doubting weeks of WS/AWTWB and sprinkled with plenty of past memories and present action, this author really lets you sit with that sorrow and uncertainty. Plus FANTASTIC art! What more could you want?
The Beautiful Game WIP, currently 8k, Rated T by @fatalfangirl
This fic is composed of anecdotes of Simon and Baz playing football over the years but football is merely a lens to view the progression of their relationship. It’s canon compliant and fits so seamlessly with the events surrounding it. The WS chapter, for example, packs a punch in a few hundred words. It will have you sobbing, squealing, sighing and laughing as the chapters take you through the best (and worst) of their relationship. But through it all they have football. Need I say more?
This Is Your Place, Complete, 19k, Rated M by @cutestkilla This fic was written for @carryonprompts fest (along with the two above!) and answered the question: how would things have differed if Baz came back to his room after the Open sesame incident to find Simon, tits out, bloody and without his cross? This author took the prompt in a a sexy but also tender and angsty direction. A lovely get together written by a very talented writer.
Speaking of, I’m gonna jump back to @cutestkilla’s first fic because she just posted this great meta about what informed her version of the Humdrum from canon, which got me thinking about how What’s Left is still one of my favorite fics of all time so if you haven’t read this fic about what if Simon really died in the White Chapel and the Humdrum (Sid, my beloved) was left, how might he and Baz take on the Mage? It’s so creative, funny, sweet and heartfelt and (despite the way the premise sounds) will leave you fulfilled in a way you never knew you needed to be.

Another Carry On Prompts Fest fic that I am OBSESSED with. It’s a Watford era magickal mishap (my fave, it should be a proper tag!) in which Simon accidentally spells Baz to spontaneously orgasm without warning several times a day. This story is both hilarious and so sexy and the end of chapter 1 leaves us with a delightful twist. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Stress Management WIP currently 22k, rated M by @whogaveyoupermission
Normal AU, later in life get together in which social worker!Simon tried to manage his stress by attending a barre class taught by none other than his former classmate Baz. This fic is so sweet and sexy you will be screeching for them to get together by the end of the first chapter. And yet this author is building their mutual pining so, so well. Bonus content includes Baz in all sorts of sexy barre instructor outfits that you won’t want to miss!

TL;DR script 1?
I'm getting the urge to write my first RVB fic. Yet, I've been going back and forth about how I actually want to handle it.
Directly after Restoration, I had a lot of " EMOTIONAL DAMAGE " and whipped up a seven page comic i've yet to publish (and still am debating about at this point because I dont feel its very good and I lost a lot of the anger that spurned it but GODDAMN do I want to keep pump the RVB tag with more Grimmons Art JUST BECAUSE) along with a few other pictures and feels and ideas of other WIPS that also came from that anger and angst...
But now that it's been some time and I've cooled down and have been able to process and ALSO come to understand that 19 could be taken as another Simulation, and that ALSO RVB gave us the unique gift of letting us CHOOSE where our canon story ends (Be it at S10, or S13 or for the very few of us S17) ... My brain has slowly been allotting, plotting and working its way towards writing a story that could be a more realistic take to an ending.
I've never written 'Fix-It fics' in my life. Mostly because I don't really believe in them that much, personally, for me. ( I'll read them if the premise sounds awesome, and I'm curious how people switch things up. I just have a hard time writing them myself.)
For me I do 'Mend-It' fics. Which means I keep what was considered 'broken' in canon, but then find a canon way to fix it BEYOND the breaking point.
. . . . So now I am conflicted because as I stated before - RvB is a Choose Your Own Ending series. S19 does have some concepts I'd like to play around with and explore further and expand on. But I'm also an enjoy of have S17 as my ending. Never getting the SoC fight feels wrong.
But maybe, maybe. . . I've got a way to have my cake and eat it too. Ya know, before Grif finds out I had cake.
Anywho, this was a quick Outline for the first draft of a Fic I was planning, but am now thinking of scrapping maybe for what's now brewing in my brain. I might flesh this back out again but this was what I came up with about some odd hours after finishing Restoration day of.
"First Nights"
How often does Simmon's second guess himself? By nightfall, when he see's Grifs unmade and trashed bed - because you KNOW Grif left him one last mess to clean up, he's going to bitch about it, bitch about the trash and . . . probably put it off for the morning. Being so fucking tired after surviving all of that. And then when he starts to ask a question. . . realizing he wont get an answer, he'll choke.
Tucker's acting all 'Yeah I'm fine sure' but he's probably struggling a fuck of a lot right now and trying to do it all himself - and Wash is still learning how to let go but he's got Carolina for support so he can be Tucker's support as well. Them learning how to heal together is very viable.
Grif is probably going to run off disbelief for a few hours, along with adrenaline to figure out his immediate living situation as soon as he gets back home. But it's gonna sink in pretty quickly that he's alone, and it'll hurt when it hits. He didn't even tell Kai he was leaving to go back home cause he was still waiting for a second shoe to drop, but it didnt and now he's back in Hawaii.
Caboose is gonna wonder the canyon. He'll be quite. Probably ends up in front of a broken Simmons, and is just there to be supportive. Because Simmons also, in a way, also just lost his best friend. So he'll offer a shoulder and a hug and let Simmon's have his emotions. Because doing the right thing is the sad thing.
He'll probably say thank you to Sarge's grave. It'll inspire him to make one for the Epsilon Unit, but the grave stone will be carved with ALL the names ... Church, Tex, Alpha, Beta, Epsilon and the rest in their Greek Lettering. He'll put the Sniper Rifle on it.
Tucker leaves with Wash and Carolina because the trauma does finally hit him and hard, and he needs a doctor. Carolina tires to convince Caboose and Simmons to go with them but they both stay behind - Simmon's claiming some kind of bullshit technical reason and Carolina know's he's lying but doesn't push, just leaves the invite open.
Caboose and Simmons sit atop Red Base and talk into the night, watching the stars and recounting things again. The first night alone is rough, and it hurts.
It gets easier each passing night, but it still sucks when it feels you no longer have a purpose. They started as pawns in a fake war, and it feels like after everything that's happened, they're still just pawns the UNSC would rather push into the shadows. At least here. Maybe there's somewhere they could actually make a difference, or that their help and experience would be beneficial.
It takes time to find that place. But eventually, they do. A new training facility/liaison office looking for experienced vets is being built. Simmon's files the paperwork immediately, because Red Tape bullshit requires these thing be done ASAP and he's taking no chances.
Takes time again, but eventually, the new facility is finished and they're paperwork is accepted. They clear out Blood Gulch. They leave it behind for good. (Debating Simmon's having rigged the bases to explode or not - sees on brand for him, but also he may just leave it derelict because Sarge)
Simmons, anxious but excited, turns to Caboose and see's the other's excitement. He's going on about how "It'll be great!" and all the things he wants to see and do and all the new friends he could make, but then grows kind of quiet and look over to Simmons.
"It will be great, right?"
"Going to Earth? Yeah. I think it will."
Last scene is just them talking while the data-pad next to Simmons shows a readout of the New Facility they're transferring to, " RTB: ODST - Red Team Base: O'ahu Division for Science and Technologies"

Have you ever had that thing where you have so many ideas and WIPs, but you don’t know where to start or which one to continue? Like there’s just so much creativity and shit overflowing in your brain? I’m kind of having that problem rn and idk how to handle it😕
oh, i constantly have that problem. what i do is prioritize by who i'm thinking about and what sounds best for me tbh. i tend to fixate on specific ideas and once i've written it, ill end up fixating on another,
like if you saw my notes in my phone filled to the brim with single sentence ideas, some marked out bc i've written them, others waiting to be written....man....
it's not easy to have a one track mind though, i use polls here a lot to help me decide if i have too many i actively want to write! like rn??? i rly wanna write jay, but i promised sunghoon night-shift part two. im fixated on them both in their own little way tho so i know as soon as i finish with sunghoon, i can hop into my jay doc and go insane c: it's like a lil treat
other things you can do tho:
- i already mentioned polls
- i do this thing before bed where i write in my head. whichever fic comes to mind first is usually the one ill fixate on.
- write down all of your ideas somewhere, find the one that strikes some type of imagery in your head first.
that's rly all i got for u ;-; im v messy when i write, can't lie about that. but i hope it helps!!

Final Chapter WIP:
Jay blinked, his breath caught in his throat as he looked at his hands and then at the ground in front of him.
On the destroyed street, the Merge Quake had completely disappeared. There was nothing left but the breaks that divided the buildings and the canals. Everything was completely silent.
His knee gave way beneath him and the other agents grabbed his arms before he fell.
There were many images under his eyes. Bright, colorful flashes like broken glass consuming the sky, a city disappearing into the horizon, a desert looming in front of him as a gasp merged with the sound of static, and it was too much. It was too much.
